This is a great two bike rack that I had about a year or two ago on my old car. It worked perfect on it! I got a new car last year and just got this rack again for it and it says that it’s compatible with my new car. I used it a couple of times and just now noticed that the bottom part of the rack had dented the trunk and left nasty scratches that now I’ll have to pay for since their customer service is garbage. Don’t put a vehicle on the list that isn’t full compatible… if you get this rack I recommend putting some extra padding on the bottom part of the rack or it could possibly damage your vehicle. It says it holds 70 lbs of bikes. The two bikes I use with it are way less than 70 pounds and the way the trunk is shaped causes it to push in and the metal ends up scraping the trunk. It should be one long foam padding on the bottom instead of one piece of foam on each side.Hunter
This rack might be able to hold two childrens bikes, but definitely not two adult bikes without serious problems. I would imagine the rubbing and bumping together just to get them on the rack would damage the finish…not to mention traveling with them. Theres just simply not enough space between the brackets. Its also the dickens to attach to our Equinox, even though it specifically states that it fits this car. I wouldnt want to carry more than one bike on it, and you need an additional bar (sold separately) to carry a womens bike. We returned it!Beverly

We were a bit apprehensive at first, not necessarily with the bike trailer, but more or less with the 1.25 hitch that we had to opt for as the dealership misinformed us on the size of hitch compatible with outback.I am happy to report we have had no problems with the sturdiness of this bike trailer as we were afraid the 1.25 would result in a wobbly outcome. As other reviews mentioned the trailer itself was a bit difficult to assemble. However once assembled and loaded it was exactly what we needed. We are comfortably and securely able to load our 2 Trek bikes and have no problem with the arms or straps. The only complaint is the thickness of the pin used to lock the trailer to the hitch. Could use a better pin something a bit thicker and sturdier for it to feel very secure.JAAM
First off, I'll mention that assembly was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The long bolts connecting the two pieces of frame together took a bit of finesse (and a rubber mallet) to get them to slide in and line up properly. It helps if you take the part of the frame where they screw in (on the outer rail) off first and line that up separately. Once I figured that out, the rest was a breeze. I really like the ease of use with this thing – bikes go on and off in just minutes. Way easier than it used to be trying to squeeze them into my car. I also enjoy how light it is, and how quickly it comes on and off the hitch. Although the price is a bit high, it is well-made and worth it. Highly recommend.Nate
There are things I like about this rack, but I think it's quite overpriced for what it is. I found it easy to attach to the hitch and I like the overall design – the arms feel secure, I like being able to fold the rack easily, and it does hold my bike well. I was also able to use the farthest rack position as a makeshift bike stand while I did some work on the chain, which was handy since I don't have my own stand. However, for this price point, I expect more than to have to use my own cheap Velcro strap to secure a mountain bike with average/slightly wide tires. I'm not using some kind of niche fat or cargo bike here – why doesn't the Kuat come with an integrated, high-quality strap for this purpose or better yet, a design that doesn't require that extra step at all? I also find the ratchet strap for securing the rear tire to be poorly placed. You can't get the bike on the rack without crunching the strap down and having to yank it out from under the tire manually, which is definitely increasing wear and tear already. Finally, the lock that comes with the rack for securing the rack to the hitch felt very cheap and online reviews suggest it can be broken very easily (a problem when you live in a high-theft area, which is not Kuat's fault), but it did lead to an extra cost to buy a more secure lock. Long story short, I'm glad I have the rack and it gets the job done, but it's premium pricing for an average/good product. I can't give a 4 or 5 star review when the value is skewed like that. I purchased this rack, and after assembling it, I discovered that I can’t insert my locking pin into the receiver. Kuat offset the hole so the rack can fit into either a 1-1/4” or 2” receiver. You have to use the pin that comes with the rack, but you can’t lock the rack into the receiver. They give you a cable lock to lock your bike to the rack, but without a way to lock the rack to the receiver, a thief can just remove the rack, and a bike if it’s on the rack. What an idiotic system. I’m not a big fan of Yakima because their overpriced and the quality has gone downhill, but at least their adapter collar allows their 1-1/4 rack to properly fit into a 2” receiver so you can lock the bike rack into the receiver. You’re better off buying a Yakima.RadBean
I drove 200 miles to pick up my Transfer V2 two bike rack for my Prius, so I needed the 1.25-2" shank. There was one left, being held for me which was good service by REI. Upon returning home and assembling the rack (the instructions are good so it is easy, though takes time) I discovered that the shank, which is the male end that slides into the receiver hitch, was 2" and not what the box said. I called Kuat and explained the problem to Angela in customer service. She's sharp and grasped the problem, saying that somehow the incorrect rack was put in the box and she would have the correct shank sent overnight, not the usual "you should receive the package in two to three weeks" from too many companies, while you do without whatever it is. This was astoundingly great service from Kuat and by Angela. She is obviously a 'people person', as had been other customer service reps at Kuat when I had called for rack advice previously. Not just polite, but happily volunteering information and advice, no doubt reflecting management and owners. I chose the Transfer V2 on the advice of a Kuat rep and am very happy with it. The build quality is good, it is easy to use, and the built-in system to stabilize the rack in the hitch works solidly. I once owned a bike shop and have had numerous racks over the years, so have experience. I highly recommend this rack for a person who doesn't, for some reason, need the features of one of the other Kuat racks, but if they do choose another model I'm sure they will be just as happy.LouisG
Bought this today thinking I would be able to use it this weekend. One of the front tire cradle bolts was cross threaded when trying to tighten the puck. Called support and they were very responsive. A replacement cradle assembly and hardware is on its way. Also noticed rust coming out of the non-locking end on the U arm. Quite disturbing considering I’ve paid for a brand new unit in a sealed box. QC must have missed this one completely and wonder about factory’s storage (outdoors?). Non-locking end cap also broke at the screw hole as I tried to make it fit onto the U arm. Extremely tight fit. as a solution for people who don't want the risk or inefficiency of a roof rack, the hitch rack is where it's at! There are few racks that can do as much as this rack at this cost! I can throw my bike on the rack and secure it in less than 5 seconds and be on my way. I love how quick and easy it is to use. The securement mechanism is very secure (driven it through some pretty rough terrain and smacked it on stuff and it keeps on kickin') and fits pretty much anything but fatbikes. The rack folds up quite easily and quickly when not in use with a couple quick release pins. The arms fold down and lock themselves into place which is really cool, and keeps the arms from swinging out and hitting your car. You can also easily lock your bikes to the rack using a cable lock that pops out of the top of the securement wheel hook, but the cable is pretty thin and not long enough to secure more than the frame only. I wouldn't trust it alone for too long in bad areas. Minor quibbles are the redundant safety pin that reinforces the "rack folding mechanism" can work free on its own if it isn't inserted entirely, and has a weird little cable that ties it onto the rack, that also can fall off altogether since it's held in by a plastic plug that can just be pulled out. While the loss of this part doesn't really affect the rack's performance and isn't a structural component, it does cut down on some of the sway of the rack so I do like to have it. It just isn't all that secure. I lost that original pin but Yakima sent me a new one that I ziptied on. The other problem is that the cable securing this pin gets pinched into the hole that the pin goes into and eventually frays the cable. This is just dumb engineering, but again, pretty minor. Other thing is that the rack does make some noise on the back of the car from swaying and bounching over stuff. It can't really be helped too much since it is a hitch rack after all but some more stiffness built into the design would have been appreciated. All in all, great rack for the cash! I live on Vancouver Island where we receive a fair amount of precipitation and the bike is on the car all year round. I bought this rack a few years ago. The arms rusted very quickly and wrecked the plastic at the arms joints. Yakima was good about the warranty claim and replaced the first set of arms, but the second set quickly followed in the same footsteps as the first. 4 years later and I'm in the market for a new rack. It rusted very quickly and is now super wobbly. If you can take good care of this rack, it'll last a long time. If you're like me and this thing is a year-round necessity, look for something a little more rugged.ilikebsikes
I bought the HoldUp 2 rather than the Thule equivalent partly on price, partly on bulk (the Thule takes up more space on and off the car) and partly because I wanted to be able to add the Plus 2 extension to the Yakima so I could take four bikes. Overall it has been a good purchase, although I mainly use it for two bikes at a time – one of which is an E-MTB. The rack goes on and off the hitch-mount easily (once you've mastered the art and as long as you're strong enough to lift it). I like the fact that it locks onto the hitch-mount too, and the 'wobbling' problems that some people have mentioned when driving can be avoided if you wiggle the rack around a bit as you're tightening it onto the hitch-mount. On the downside it does have a couple of weak points in its design/construction. First, if you have 29 inch wheels you need to be very careful to position the front wheel clamp as close to the forks as possible (ie well over the arch of the wheel) to avoid the front wheel bouncing out of the wheel holder. Before I realised this I once got home to find one bike hanging off the rack and held on only by the rear wheel strap and the fact that its handlebars had become entangled in the bike next to it when it moved. User-error probably, but something to be aware of. More problematic for me has been that although the rack is advertised as taking the weight of an e-bike, the plastic bolts built into the rear wheel clamps don't seem strong enough. I've had two of those break in the year that I've had the rack, and I've ended up replacing them both with a stainless steel bolt which I bought from Bunnings. This has only been a problem when I've been carrying my E-MTB, not the standard bike. It's not an expensive fix, and perhaps something the factory should consider. Another problem I've had has been the built-in lock cable jamming in its housing so I was unable to use/move it. Living in Brisbane I was able to take the rack into the Yakima supplier and they fixed it for me, but it was irritating nevertheless. I should say that the customer service I've had from Yakima with these problems has been great, both in replacing broken parts and in fixing the lock when I went in to see them. However, given the price of the rack it would have been good if the design was such that the problems didn't occur in the first place. I would give this a 5 for its overall usability but marked down to a 4 because of the niggles I mention above.Jonathan W

Good: Looks stylish (my opinion, subjective) Holds the bike very well if used correctly. Fast bike install ONCE you get used to it. Bad: If you don't have a Thule set of cross bars you need to buy T Bolts for your model unless you use the over clamps. The over clamps can and probably will scratch your cross bars. The T bolts for my car that Thule recommended had to come from a dealer in Europe and could not be shipped to the US. I will keep looking and hope to find them. I am using the over clamps at the moment that are all metal, for a metal on metal fit. I am not sure why the insides are not lined with a non marring material like rubber. It is possible for the two bars to not click together which could lead to a less secure holding of the front wheel. I double checked and found this condition and reinstalled. Very important to listen for the click. If a person is in a hurry or in a loud area its possible to install the bike incorrectly. Best to visually check to assure the pin is in the groove/ Takes a little getting used to. Not intuitive. Easy once you get used to it. Not the easiest to get your bike into but to be fair This is my first roof rack. My SUV is not tall but I need a step ladder. The lock for the bike to the rack needs to be purchased separately. Since, we have Aeroblade/Wingbar Evo bars for our vehicles already, we didn't want to go to a hitch rack. We were originally looking at the drop wheel roof racks, but we ended up choosing this one instead, since we don't have quick release axles on our bikes. It was really easy to install the bike racks onto the bars – they slide onto the bars with the T-nuts and then put back on the end caps. I bought this rack after being told it was the best solution for my wife's new dual suspension, I'd been using big mouth carriers for the last 10 years after switching from fork mounted carriers. The new tray is awful for the slightly wider tires, it isn't a true +sized and fit in the old trays, but the tires just roll right off these ones with no trouble. So do other bikes and its a deficiency of the new style trays but with the weight of her bike its worse. Part of the issue lies in the difficulty of guiding the front tire into the holder and then trying to hold it there while the wheel wants to slide sideways. The holder that then locks the wheel in is a total pain from there. With both MTBs it is possible to set a height and then use some force to slam it up so it locks in but its a really tight latching mechanism. This is where it gets its worst marks because with all my other bikes locking the wheel in becomes a major difficulty. The space between the downtube and front wheel of my and my wife's Blue gravel bikes, her C-dale Caadx, and my Museeuw race bike is so tight that the wheel holder barely fits in the space. With how hard it is to latch into the wheel stop getting any of these bikes on there is almost harder then with the wife's dual suspension since it isn't possible to swing it up with any momentum without it typically hitting the frame. Doing so requires snaking an arm under the frame to push up on the holder while the other hand turns the release knob to get it locked in. This method is required as there is enough flex that trying to push on the outside of the holder won't force it into the lock that holds both arms together. Releasing the latch on the lock arm, due to the pressure on the tire, caused the holder to bounce into the frame on one of the bikes leaving the tiniest ding, nothing easily noticable but enough to remind me I need to have some care unlatching it. The result is that the carrier only works well with one MTB out of 6 total bikes, that's a pretty poor score on something that costs well over 200.00 and buying it is something I regret.

Looking for a bike rack made in USA, the Grand Slam 4 caught my attention for its simplicity and price point. I was concerned about using the adapter to fit my 2" receiver, but it's been easy to use and I believe the design prevents swaying or flip flopping around like you may find on lower priced racks. We bought the Grand Slam because it met all the criterai we were looking for: hitch rack, holds four bikes, economical. It was easy to assemble, easy to install/remove from the hitch, and it works like a charm. My only criticism is that there are a couple of pieces of hardware needed for the rack to work with a 2" mount. The rack came with no instructions for that part of the assembly (Saris, please include that in updates.). It was remarkably easy to assemble after watching a YouTube video.Josh

Ok. Solid rack. Really the only option for Variety of e bikes. Should come standard with $30 extra fat bike option, standard straps are very short and hard to grasp and pull down. Quality of threads is poor and they are not aligned well, makes build frustrating at times worrying about threading screws. Building takes a long time, but is fairly intuitive. Ramp option ($100 extra) helps, I rock 67 lb. e bikes and the rack holds up well. The hitch receiver part does well to secure snugly and has little to no play while driving. This is a solid rack, and was the only product available that fit all my needs, from e fat bikes to small 20in wheel city cruisers with frame welded rear racks. Took almost 4 hrs to install. Bolts provided were not easy to thread. Tool provided was not adequate – should have tool that can use with a drill. Tried to center rack, but tried to free bolts, but would not budge to move. Have had many Yakima racks in past and never had an issue. Concerns now are needing to center bike trays, but might be an issue removing / installing bolts (12) Most likely will have to return – concerns are getting replacement with same issue – see recent feedback comments from another member. Just got this rack to give as a gift, but I put it together and have mounted and tested it, and the Transfer V2 reflects all the qualities that I've experienced with Küat products. I already have two Küat racks (NV 2.0 and old-style Sherpa), plus a roof basket (Vagabond X), and even some other Küat stuff like the bottle-cage locks ( a great and handy product, and all of mine still work beautifully). Purchased the Transfer V2 in May as i wanted a rack for the back of our Airstream that was rated for RV use that I could transfer to my truck when I got to camping locations. Previously had a rack that the bicycles hung from the crossbar. This rack really locks the bikes down and limits movement while traveling. Also the cam lock works well in that there is no movement in the rack once it is torqued down to 18 ft-lbs. Have traveled over 4000 miles and have had no problems. Well made rack. Our purchase of the Freedom 4-Bike was timed to coincide with a family cycling trip. We received it a few days before the trip, and decided to practice. Good call! Putting four bikes on the rack for the first time took more than an hour of trial and error and tinkering. Lining up the parts of the rack and the pedals, handlebars, seats and racks of four adult-sized bikes was definitely a three-dimensional puzzle. The rack was great, though, for carrying the bikes securely and steadily on an 850-mile round-trip journey. We ended up getting very good at getting the bikes on and off of the rack in, probably, 5-10 minutes at a go. One person can load four bikes, but it's better to have a second person around to help.Rich
I bought the Saris Freedom 4 Bike rack about a month ago and I am quite impressed with it. I am not very mechanically inclined but I was able to figure out the installation fairly easily, the online videos do help. Once you establish a particular spot for each bike that you carry, the future setup is quite easy. Some previous reviews questioned the use of plastic parts which I thought were quite well made while also keeping the weight down on the rack. Vehicle rides much better by keeping the bikes as close to the bumper/rear of car as possible. Highly recommend it so far!Edward

Having fenders is no problem, Just drop the arm just in front of the Fender. My E-Bike is 55 lbs & this rack has no problem supporting the weight. Loading my bike is very fast & easy.The front cradle holds the front tire securely & the rear tire sits in a shallow channel. Kuat does offer a ramp witch would make this process even easier. The integrated cable locks are a good way to lock your bike during transport. The Rack over all fills heavy duty & solidly built. Cosmetically it’s very beautifully painted too. Cons, The key hole to the Cable locks has a little spring loaded cover in the hole. So you have to put the key in at a angle to push it out of the way. It took me a Minet to figure that out.Mike
Ok, I love my biking and hate my bike racks. To say that most are put together with string and bailing wire is an understatement. I had one brand that was so top heavy that I honestly thought I would lose my bikes along the highway somewhere. That is until I bought the Kuat from REI. Expensive!!!! I bought the NV and then the doubler so I could have 4 bikes at once. I have been beyond impressed with this rack. Solid, stable, easy to use and very secure. Every part of this rack has been thought out and engineered to perfection. I know this sounds kind of over the top for a review but as a dentist, I look for details and precision in everything. Trek Farley 5.0 (large frame) with 27.5 x 4.5 tires (Bontrager Gnarwhal Fat Bike Tire). Kuat phat bike kit installed. Cradles in lowest position. The ratchet arm will not come over the top of the tire without leaning the bike, swinging the arm up, then centering the bike/tire under the arm. Attached is the video Kuat sent me. This metjod is fine for one bike, but with 2+ bikes that need to be leaned, the other bikes get in the way. Kuat support says "Unfortunately at this time we do not have a solution". It seems like a nice rack otherwise, but Kuat's specs are misleading.Stephen K

This is a great bike rack. Its sturdy, easily mounted on my roof rack(Thule style rectangular cross bars). It was about $50 including shipping. Its for an older bike without quick disconnect wheels or brakes so putting the bike inside the truck was ridiculous. I installed it in about 25 minutes including assembly. It did require a wrench to make sure the lock nuts were tight but mounting it didnt require any tools, its a great deal!skynrd.ds2
It does actually work! It definitely looks and kinda feels cheap but for like 40 bucks, it will do! I was a bit confused on installing it but after I figured out what I was really doing it was a piece of cake! I kinda was hoping it was going to be easy on easy off but I probably won’t be removing it off the car unless I absolutely have to. As for putting my bike on there it’s actually pretty easy, the lock for the bottom bar of the bike is a bit tricky/ flimsy But it does work and keeps the bike in place. I have a 2019 27.5 giant mountain bike so it barely fits on the rack and the front tire I can not lock down with the added straps. The back one straps down but not the front. It was an easy fix to correct that, I just found a long strap that will work for now. So far it works well and keeps the bike mostly in place, I’m a bit paranoid about it since I have had a kayak fall from the top roof of the car when I was driving once. The last thing I wanna say is that I’m afraid of going super fast with it but so far I have reached speeds up to 50-55mph and it doesn’t feel any different from just driving the car without the bike on top! Just did like 80-90 mph with the bike on since I went to a bike park at a ski resort. So I say money well spent!!!G.
Fairly simple to assemble and install. One critical point is that the center support device comes with a 7 x 5/16th inch bolt that limits the width of the down tube of the bike which, in turn, limits its ability to accommodate some bikes. That is easily remedied buy replacing it was an 8 x 5/16th inch bolt found at any hardware store.Keith

Easy to install. Easy to get four bikes on including two kids bikes. Have to spend a few minutes adjusting wheel supports the first time I loaded the bikes, but now that is set, it takes seconds to load a bike. Very sturdy, yet not too heavy. Very secure No bouncing while driving. No sagging. I appreciate the hitch pin key lock so I don't have to worry about the rack getting stolen from the car. Zip bands to secure the wheels to the rack are very convenient. The screw that kept the removable locking pin attached to the rack when the pin was not engaged (via a thin metal cable) may have been plastic and broke after two uses of the rack. It's okay because it isn't needed to operate the rack, and just forces me to put it back in after changing the rack position (folded up or extended out for use), which is a good thing to not forget to so anyways.Nirav
I recently bought my Yakima rack and took a 300 miles trip. PROS: The bikes stay in place through all the bumps in the road. Easy to adjust from 4 bikes to 2 bikes set up. Easy to put together. CONS: Very very heavy, over 70 lbs. The design is off, difficult to load/unload the bike by yourself. The middle poles that hold the bikes are in the way when loading and unloading. No lock or cable, have to provide your own (at this price point, should come with it). Attaching to the hitch requires a wrench. Black screw that holds wire to the pin came off before I even assembled it. Screw needs to be a metal one, not plastic. I contact customer support and they said it's not an option. They gave me the screw size and said to go buy your own.Noi K
We just used this for our first road trip with our bikes and it held up great! Bikes were snug. Able to fit kids bikes 16” and 24” and 2 adult mountain bikes. So easy to adjust to for different wheel sizes and heights. I was disappointed that one of the pins is attached by a cable with a plastic washer. That washer busted day 1 of using the rack. Just used it for the first time yesterday and it was exactly what I was looking for. One thing that drove me away from 5 stars was two days after the purchase Thule had it $50.00 cheaper online for a Memorial Day special. I called and asked if they would honor it, I got a no from customer service and they said maybe a bike store will honor it and you can buy it from them and send back the one you are receiving which was very unfortunate. I finally got to use my Thule insta Gator bike rack and it worked like a dream. I have Chevy Colorado and had to secure the rear wheel in the bike rack with the front wheel turned to the side. We’ve used this rack through two seasons of kids MTB racing and family rides. One season on a pickup and one on a mid-size SUV. As mentioned in other reviews, it barely fits 4 bikes, and they really need to be just the right size and frame shape. Probably 4 road bikes with flat top tubes fit best. In the real world, we barely squeeze 3 MTBs (S, M & L) onto it, but must carefully wrap forks and chainstays with homemade pool noodle foam and Velcro to prevent damage from vibration, etc.. And you need to buy Yakima’s top-tube bridge things if you have any kind of funky top-tube or tight frame size. Top-tube/bridge and seat post are held securely in place by Yakima’s provided loose plastic clips which can be easy to misplace. The rack does swing away nicely from even a dropped pickup tailgate, but you must unscrew the swing securing bolt each time you need access to the rear and redo it once closed. Hitch fit is pretty good and seems more dependent on small hitch receiver variations than the rack itself. Some minor fading of the plastic parts after 18 months outside. Metal parts are still glossy and nice. Overall, this is really an OK rack for occasional 3 bike family use, especially if you’re not fussy about your bikes. A 3-4 bike family with higher end bikes will probably want to look elsewhere. I’m probably moving on to a 4-bike tray rack.YetiEvo
This is not a 4 bike rack. I tried to fit 4 mountain bikes on it and there is no way to get all 4 on. I was able to cram 3 bikes on, though I had to remove 2 of the front tires to do so. Also one of the bikes we had would not fit on the rack at all, even by itself. It is a standard Trek mountain bike but I could not get the frame over the rack arms. I thought maybe if I added a top bar to the bike that would work, but it did not. The arms are too thick to fit. Actually it is the holder for the bikes that is too big to fit through the frame. Overall this was a huge disappointment. On the plus side, the swing arm does work well. I did have to get a drop hitch extension to make it work on my Jeep though, because the spare tire would hit the rack. If you are looking for a 4 bike rack, do not buy this one.Gregrm
The rack is strong, and quite heavy, which I hope means it will last long. I bought it for my Silverado 2500 truck which has a 2.5 inch hitch, thinking that I would mount the rack in a reducer sleeve in the hitch. However, the rack is solid, with no hole for a pin and the sleeve requires a pin to stay in place. I solved using a hitch extension/drop inside the sleeve and mounting the rack to the extension/drop. It all works fine, but important to know if you have a hitch receiver larger than 2 inches.Nhaf

We've owned a Yakima HangOver 6 for two seasons now and use it on both a minivan (Toyota Sienna) and a 3/4 ton truck (Ram 2500) and even a little EV (Chevy Bolt). I'm not sure what the negative reviews are about, we absolutely love this thing. Easy to load, solidly holds bikes, and super quick to get them on and off. We generally keep the rack tilted one notch down to leave room for the front tires, and only in 90 degree mode when we don't have bikes on, which keeps it close to the car. We've recommended it to tons of people, it's a great conversation starter in parking lots, hah!
The primary purpose for purchasing this rack was the need to carry 5 bikes without scratching the bikes. This rack does that. We have it on the highest mast setting because we have it attached to a dodge caravan and need the ground clearance. It took some practice, but getting the bikes on and off is now not hard for me. We have 4 adult size bikes, all hardtail, with front suspension(which is a requirement). These bikes fit well. We also have a 24 inch specialized hot rock. This bike fits fine. The new version of this rack has 2 top straps. The one issue I had is getting the straps, which are spread in a V through the forks. I came up with a hack to use a hair tie hold them together so they fit through the fork. The construction is solid and using the foot release to tilt the rack is easy. I am happy with it.
I wanted to love this bike rack. In the end, I returned it for a platform style rack. Specially the Kuat with extension piece. The platform rack can sit on my car the entire riding season. Where-as the Hangover is really big and gets in the way for daily activities. I drive an outback for reference for others.TahoeJake

Overall I am content with the function of this rack, but several things could and should be improved. The good: loading and unloading the bikes is fast and easy. The rack fits into my 2” receiver with minimal play and locks down with the supplied bolt. Low profile and folding feature works as expected. The not-so-good: their is play in both pivot points with no way of tightening, so the rack bounces a little when loaded. Also, the release mechanism rattles inside the rack. This rattle is loud enough to hear inside the vehicle, when all windows and doors are closed and driving down the road. So while the rack feels safe and secure, the design allows for excess play and noise that are mildly annoying. So far these issues do not affect the safety or performance of the rack in any way.MNSwede
I bought this bike rack this week and installed this morning. The installation to the hitch mount was pretty easy to do. The only thing that isn't great with the initial part is that the bolt that came with the rack does not go all the way through to the other side of the hitch receiver. Luckily, I preemptively order a hitch lock on amazon, so hopefully that will solve that part. The other issue is that the bolts for the mast are difficult to tighten without a wrench to hold it in place so you can tighten the bolt. If you plan on driving and hitting bumps at speeds higher than 35mph you will see some movement with the bikes on the rack but the rack seems to be sturdy enough on the first trial run with bikes loaded. All in all, I think it's a good rack for the money, but only time will tell. I think if you can get the next level Thule products it may be worth the investment for more peace of mind when driving.Cfosse
The rack is a much better solution than stuffing my bike into a Subaru hatch. The rack made my cycling life much better. However, the hard plastic anti-sway stablizer and band, scratched the paint off my mountain bike where contact was made. Being a mountain bike, I wasn't too concerned, but the bike was newish and clean. The rack also gets loose in the hitch after riding around some short distances, and I have to tighten bolt all the time now. I got a hitch stablizer coming that I hope makes things better. Alas every bike rack solution seems to have a built-in flaw. A shelf rack is probably better than a hanging rack but the shelf racks stick-out pretty far, and they could get lose as wellJohnse0

Good substitude for hitch bike carrier, but I gave it 4 stars becouse if it would be made of lite aluminum I would give it 5 stars. Just very heavy. And strap hooks are not getting into gaps unless i open back hatch. But solid and very versatile construction.radik58
I have a 2011 Honda Fit with a spoiler and a 2006 Saturn Vue with a liftgate. This rack fits both vehicles, kept the hook straps above the spoiler on the Honda, and cost $200 less than the one I saw at the bike shop. Would definitely recommend.biancashuman

I bought this bike rack to transport my bike from Colorado to California for a bike race. Bike feels secure and I had no issues with it the whole trip. It does get pulled around in the wind at high speeds so if you’re in a crosswind you might feel the occasional tug on the steering wheel. I had 12×110 thru axle and the adapters that came with it work very well. They’re also east to switch out so I can switch them for different bikes. I have used the rack for over 3000 miles now with a bike on it and no issues. I would say the only downside is the lock system doesn’t come with it and that’s slightly annoying. It fit on a 2015 Ford Escape factory roof bars so that was also nice. It’s a little bit hard to get on the first time but once it’s on you don’t really take it off. I can fit two of the racks fully loaded with bikes and a 4 ski ski rack on my roof with a little work of space and alternating the way the bikes fit.CampZach
I have not seen where the ability to lock your bike while using this rack is available. The cable has only a twist lock and that is definately not a way to secure your bike. Unless I am missing something please let me know.Ruben

I previously had a similar Thule 4 bike car carrier that was great. It was solidly built with thick rubber straps that made it easy to load and lock down bikes. It survived several hard impacts but when I accidentally backed it into a tree it was done. I went looking for the exact same rack but was dissapointed that they don't make them that way any more. So, I bought this, the 2020 version. First, the good. The core and frame are solid and heavy duty. It is easy to assemble and attaches snugly to a tow hitch. The mechanisms to raise and lower the bars are easy and efficient to use. It will easily hold the weight of 4 bikes (although hanging 4 adult size bikes on it would require a Tetris expert). I usually only carry two (adult mountain bikes and it works well for that). The rubber rests are solid and can be adjusted to fit various bike frames. Now the bad and annoying parts. The straps (for holding bikes down) are a pain! They are thin, with plastic teeth and tighten down by threading through small locking boxes. To lock in place the straps must be run straight through the locking boxes. This can be difficult with wide or odd shaped bike frames. I haven't lost a bike yet but the thin straps do not have my confidence for holding up over time, elements or bumpy roads. Second, to unlock the straps, you push down on a plastic release lever which is supposed to raise off the teeth so they can be pulled out. However, again, the straps must be straight in the boxes to release and remove. If bikes have shifted during the drive (which they always do) you have to lift and adjust the bike to straighten the strap to get it out. Also, the release lever tends to flip over when it's under pressure (like when the bike shifts en route) – this doesn't release the strap fortunately – but it gets stuck, and the release lever has to be pushed back into place. To do this, again, you are lifting and struggling with the bike to straighten the strap. Even when the straps are straight getting them out of the box can be a pain. Im a big guy and the straps are just an annoyance but they would be a major problem for many women and anyone with a slighter build. Even for me, after a day riding, Ive left the bikes on the rack overnight rather than fight to get them off. The heavier, thicker rubber straps on the previous model were much more efficient and easy to use. You just pulled and hooked them. They were sturdy and I never had any problems getting them on or off. Switching to this overcomplicated strap and lock box design was a bad idea. So to wrap it up – this works ok as a bike carrier. The frame and its workings are solid. The straps will be annoying for anyone – but a big problem for many women and those with a slighter build who will struggle to get bikes connected and disconnected.John

Hit a bump and the pin that lowers the lever must of slipped and it lowered while driving. The back bike flew off.. and is now damaged. Supposed to hold 4 bikes can barely hold two. Bought this at the same time I purchased the bikes 2 months ago, store loaded on my bike it can barely go on the rack..force is needed to get it on and off.By Leona
