20 Best 2 Up Adventure Touring Bike (Jan 2023 Update)

A few years ago, though living in suburban America, I gave up a car for a bicycle (and occasional rideshares for business). A lifestyle-choice experiment that lasts to this day. All the while, the old-school, pre-owned 10-speed bicycle I owned was a nearly 20-year old already pre-owned purchase. Recently, it was time for me to let go of Ol' Faithful, and so I began a journey… At first I made the mistake of chasing after deals per well-known name brands… 1st bike purchase from a department store, a disappointment, so I returned it. 2nd bike, from another department store, such a let down with defects, also returned. At some point, I left behind my local department stores and various online department store searches… I took my goal more seriously! Then I discovered a few *authentic* bike shops with online stores… Early on, sixthreezero stood out above the rest for it's straightforward messaging and ease-of-use website. So, then I found a good value-for-price option for me to buy direct from their online store, the sixthreezero EVRYjourney Men's Casual Edition 26" 7-Speed Sport Hybrid Cruiser Bicycle, Matte Black. Once, I researched the online resources sixthreezero provides and the history and philosophy of the brand, I decided to also purchase their Forever Warranty. Considering that the shipping cost was free, the total purchase price was an amazing value. As a work-from-home veteran, I'm also a technophile and online-buyer/home-delivery enthusiast. So, I could have a lot to be critical about anything going wrong with the purchase process, the shipping and handling, and/or the product quality or support. Turns out that I have nothing but GREAT VIBES and GOOD THINGS TO SAY about this product! Despite the current 2020 economy downturn, the delivery of my new purchase was predictable and well-tracked and reported with updates along the way, and then complete within about one week as promised. Their bike-in-a-box complete solution leaving me to complete the assembly was as simple as I could imagine. You've just got to go the website and watch an unboxing/how-to assembly video for the model bicycle in which you're interested. You'll get it. For my own interest, I also downloaded and consulted the PDF complete assembly manual. As assembly proceeded, I was impressed and gratified with the feel of the quality and craftsmanship of the parts, materials, and frame of the bike. There were a few very minor discrepancies between the video walkthrough and the tools and parts that arrived in the box, but nothing that my brain couldn't sort out and realize that I for sure actually had absolutely everything as promised. (I think the version, model of my bicycle seemed like a new listing on the online store; so I allowed for these minor incongruities without thinking much of it.) After dealing with the lesser quality and mishaps of assembly with the previously store-bought bikes, I really came to appreciate the "legit bike shop with an online store" approach of sixthreezero. As well, after having dealt with the department store staff who would assemble the on-floor bikes, I came to realize that having the uber-experienced legit bicycle experts at sixthreezero assemble my bike to the out-of-the-box 80%-assembled extent really makes a difference! After putting in my own time to assemble the bike the rest of the way, I was actually grateful for the relatively minor amount of assembly required and the video companionship to walk me through it. (And, I am the sort to hire a handyman to do anything hands-on!) For the first time ever in my life, I have a sense of accomplishment and know-how and ownership of my bike like I've never had before. Last, not least, riding my new sixthreezero EVRYjourney Men's Casual Edition 26" 7-Speed Sport Hybrid Cruiser Bicycle is bliss. First of all, the model of the bike is perfect for me. (Be sure to leverage the Choosing a Bike section under the Bike Advice tab at their website! For example, I certainly used the Bodyfit Explained post with their FREE BODY FIT QUESTIONNAIRE.) After having bought and test-ridden and returned a couple of other bikes, ultimately riding my new EVRYjourney Casual Cruiser feels solid, easy-going to handle, and like I now have the right bike for the best value! After owning an expensive 21-speed Schwinn, which gears locked up several times, i really wanted a simple 3-speed. The box was extremely damaged; staples were missing, the remaining two were hanging loose; large v-shape rip in cardboard, two holes punched through, including at the gear hub, which plastic protector was discolored (and had fallen off) from hard banging in transit. Bike, unlike Sixthreezero assembly vid, was even difficult to remove from box, given tight packing and contents banged around. Acquaintances advised me to return it. The simplicity of 3-speed, however, is the reason I kept pushing to get the bike functional. Assembly is not "easy", as per description. i could assemble quite a bit but centering the front wheel with adjusting the brake pads, brake handle and cable required a professional (with fee). He also tweaked several spokes; he was not impressed with the bike. It arrived July 5; Tuesday, July 19, finally got it ready to go. The shimano gear was very smooth at first, then a couple clackety-clacks; but, objectively, I might've switched gears too fast or they may be very sensitive. Given the state of shipping box and banging at the gear hub I'm concerned about gear longevity. We have a few more days to try it out before the deadline to return. The matte black finish shows all hand- and fingerprints. Front brakes still unevenly grab the rim. Seems like the value doesn't match the price. I paid $806.47 tax $9.99 shipping; then clicked on my still-open bicycle page and found it had refreshed to a price of $479.99 (40% reduction) and out of stock. Sheesh; what a frustrating experience.jgh

I'd rate my EvryJourney so far as about 6-7/10. It's extremely comfortable to ride and the pricing was great for a bike that sixthreezero's website claims can more than support my weight. The problem is that about a month after receiving the bike, it started making this horrible scraping/grinding sound. It starts after riding for a little while (0.5-1 mile) and becomes increasingly louder and more difficult to pedal. Since it continues even with the brake arms open, I think it's the rear wheel. Support told me to take it to a local bike shop and they'll reimburse me. Hopefully my local shop can fix it. Without that problem it would be an easy 10/10.djte

Fun bike, handles wonderfully even on more 'interesting' terrain/roads. Not the fastest on roads – to be expected. Arrived immaculately and was well put together. Loving it so far.Richard F.

Put a rack and fenders on and have been using it as a commuter. It’s a little heavy but it’s super comfortable. Happy with the shipping time but the handlebars did have two small scuffs. Not a big deal.Tanner

Good tent as it should be for $550. Not sure that it could ever qualify as a 3 person, but I think we all know that 2 person means 1 person, and 3 person would follow suit as 2 person. Material is scary thin which is what makes it lightweight but it was very strong and survived a night with 50 mph winds unscathed. I can’t say anything bad about it as it does everything it is supposed other than the price. Never the less, I’m the one who chose to pay the high price and I’m keeping it so ‘nuff said on that. Easy set up and the color coded poles/tent is critical – and genius! Zippers work well and one reviewer noted the door material retainer (tie-backs) were a little under engineered for this price range. I would agree as they are difficult to fiddle with in the dark but the more I used it the less of an issue it was. It’s also very easy to shake out in the morning as that was a daily ritual. Overall, nice tent that did well on an 8 day excursion through southern Utah in early April.Jim Alt

Some things I didn't like about this tent. I do not understand the point of the white mesh and would much rather have black mesh. I do not like the awning design, especially for a bikepacking tent. Having the awning makes it harder to close or tie back the front door. It's much more of a hassle than it is worth and doesn't get used. The floor material feels like very thin plastic. I do not like the tapered floor. I definitely do not like that both sides of inner tent does not have a door. Makes other vestibule useless. I took this tent on the Colorado Trail and swore the person who designed it has never slept in a tent. I like the poles and the pole length.Blah

I was looking for a tent that would fit me, my service dog, and my wheelchair, and this tent is a perfect fit. Inside the tent, there is enough room for me to sleep and get ready for the day. The vestibule has enough to easily store my wheelchair which is great in rainy weather.wheelsondown

I purchased this tent late last summer and could not wait to give it a try on a bike packing trip. I love the size of this tent both packed and set up. It's perfect and spacious for one person, with lots of room to spread out and store gear. I placed my bike in the 'garage' as it rained the first trip out. Everything stayed dry. Lots of internal storage pockets and I slept comfortably (it was a warm night and a cool morning with light rain overnight). It was an easy first time set up…no issues at all. I used a tarp for a foot print but ended up purchasing the foot print later when it came back in stock. I will be using this bike packing tent in 2022 for a 300 miler. The reason I purchased this tent is that I can keep my bike in the large vestibule (garage. There are two entries with a smaller vestibule on the other end…I could exit on that end. I still had room in the larger vestibule (where my bike was) to use for heating water for oatmeal and coffee in the morning. The tent has ample room to sit up and get dressed inside. The tent weighs about 6 lbs. Yes…there are lighter bike packing tents…but for the security of being able to keep your bike inside the tent and the price of this tent…that extra weight….No problem for a bike packer! The tent fits easily back into it's stuff sack.LindaM

Delivery was quick and trackable on line. The stuff bag has two stains on it. Perhaps from oil. It did not carry through to the tent body so I’m not sending it back but I am puzzled by it. Raining at home so I put tent up in living room. Seems bigger than I expected but that my be due to living room set up. Easy to put up and fairly quick for the first “use”. Hotel section looks like I could get my bike inside with a little bit of work. Tent seems well made and all zippers work fine. Other than the stain on stuff sack it looks great. the good: the pole system and stuff sack, light weight, small size the bad: the footprint doesn’t integrate well when staking out the full tent system, the asymmetrical shape of the footprint and tent are a nightmare when setting up on a slope in the cold dark and rain, the tiny plastic buckles that easily fill with sand or dirt and then don’t work, the asymmetrical shape of the double zipper door that just doesn’t function the way a tent door ought to.Zach

This was a great buy for a weekend backpacking trip. It’s small, very light, easy to pack, and easy to assemble. We didn’t end up using the rain fly because it was too warm and we wanted the air flow, but as a two-person screened sleeping area, it was great. My husband is pretty broad, but I’m pretty petite and we both slept side by side just fine. The little gear pockets up too made a great place to store little odds and ends. I can see how this would be perfect for bike camping too with the helmet spot and gear hooks. Overall, it seems like a hood buy and we’re excited to use it again!Sarangelo

I (30F) just recently started getting into bikepacking. It's super lightweight, fits well between my drop handlebars, and plenty of daisy chains and buckles to attached other things to it/the handlebars. Setting up the tent the first time is suspiciously easy and I wondered if this was really 3-season for just how lightweight everything is. But after two rainy nights in Michigan in late September, I was happily satisfied with how dry and warm I was (also used the footprint and a BA sleeping bag/air pad system). Also, this tent can definitely fit two people with air pad systems but probably not a lot of gear- I use it by myself and find that it's the perfect fit for me and my gear. Only critique would be that I would occasionally feel the smallest water particle/mist make it through the rainfly.Lauren

5 Stars for a scooter 3 stars for a bicycle that's 4 star from me. In bicycle mode not real easy to ride. No gear changing, small tires so it's just not a quality bicycle experience. However on the positive side, if someone complains about you riding in scooter mode on the park sidewalk, you can quickly go to bike mode. But it's fun scooter. Good for young people, however seniors could get hurt if the took a spill. You will need a helmet because this is not a toy. Overall it is well built and excellent scooter and fun to ride.Greg

Easily unfolded for the road. Smaller than imagined, however, it zipped around at what I assumed was 15-20 mph without paddling. Downside was the paddling. If you ran ran out of juice it was hard to paddle like a normal bike. I tried it out on flat and inclined surfaces. The seat was not stable. The front of the seat was easily tilted upward The ratchet mechanism is totally ineffective in holding the seat in place, I weigh between 164 – 168lbs. Fully charged in 4 hours. Inclines greater than ten degrees became difficult, sluggish chain paddling again. 17 miles was max in traveled on single charged and I had 1 bar still green, when I got home. It met my needs and is fun to ride. great find at the time. A friend of mine bought an Anscheer paddle assist 26" that was on sale December of 2018 for around $700 – marked down from $0 $1,400 plus. That one is definitely more comfortable. Regardless, the kid wrecked my car and they had a delay in getting parts. So overall, with a moderate sized ruck sack to carry groceries, it was great. I live near an Army base with two 5k plus towns within 7 miles radius and there were plenty of comments and questions. Dude, " I see you zipping around on that thing all the time, then I noticed you weren't paddling"! So, I would run down the above. But just remember, "Heavy Metal Kills" and you have to do as much looking out for cars as they do for you. I have not ridden bikes since Germany 40 years ago and continue, as then, to hug the out side of that right lane, and zip around parking lots and back streets. So far, so good. Handles well on snow and in rain. I wear a motorcycle helmet and this groovy looking combo reflective face shield-sunglass thing that friend gave me. I had never seen one before. Over all I am happy with the purchase. Hopefully, the prices on e-bikes will stabilize or come down. I will probably purchase the Rad Wagon 4 next, but think it is a bit pricey @ $1,600. Finally, I am impressed with the power of that little hub engine.Rickey

1. The ride quality is off the charts! Go off road like a pro, don't believe me, ride one! Comfortable is an under statement , smooth concrete and this bicycle shines bright. 2. Fast! Pull throttle and your gone! Can you say 20mph! 3. The folding feature is very tastefully done and the quality is apparent. Talk about convienence! 4. Braking is first class and from my stand point, no disk brakes needed. 5. This bike at this price point looks( I.M.O. ) GREAT:) 6. Go get one if you're into getting out on a bicycle, having fun. I have to say, this is ALMOST a really cool tent. It's incredibly light, and the short pole length makes it really attractive from a back- or bike-packing standpoint — those were the things that sold us originally. But it has a problem that isn't well-communicated by the photos or item description: It is not freestanding. The design requires a minimum of two stakes to be driven and separated by a taught seam to fully expand the foot of the tent. So camping on rocks, the usual forest service crusher-fines camping pads that are all over the midwest, even very dry earth are all really difficult. I carried it in the truck for a week of mellow car camping in the upper peninsula and wasn't able to deploy it once. Otherwise, it's spacious, attractive, and seems well-built. It just has a bummer of a tiny, but significant oversight in the design.engle.jona583443

I have used this on two short bikpacking trips. Although very light the tent is poorly made and has durability issues. After having used only 10 nights things are breaking or wearing out. I don't think this tent will last for more than a few years and I suspect that it would not last for a prolonged bike trip of a few months. This tent was not cheap. My twin boys absolutely love these bikes. They use them every day. The battery lasts for more than two hours of constant riding, they never stop. Save Your money and stay away From Stacys. They cost the same that performance is very poor despite all of the gray videos. These are totally worth your money and will last your kids for years!👍🏼Teresa D.

This is a great a fun bike to use outdoors, it goes pretty fast and it goes a pretty far distance on a full battery. The one thing I wish I would’ve caught on to first was the battery. My battery doesn’t hold its charge and also dies a lot faster than my girlfriends who also has the same exact one but just purchased from Amazon. Her’s will last a lot longer than mine and also has more power. That’s the only thing really wrong with the bike and the brakes could use some tweaking but my advice is check your battery before you buy and make sure its a good one!!Damian

Bike came very quickly, within 3-4 days. Took me just a few hours to set up without much trouble using the provided guide (even though I had no experience with bikes before), and plus a large portion of the bike was already preassembled. Overall great functionality for a cheap price, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a comfortable bike that works well and is pretty versatile with 7 different speedsichbi_67

I put these on my tiger. I have the standard Adventure Bend. These are a perfect fit and all of my control cables were adequate length to do a straight swap. I love the feel of these bars compared to the stock bars. they give the bike a much better feel on the road and standing on the bike they are a good height without additional risers. I am 5'11" so if you are taller you might still need risers but you would need them with a stock setup too. If you have barkbusters you will need to get a 1 1/8" mounting kit, I ordered a third party mounting kit as the stock mounts will not work with these bars. I'm not docking the bars for that, but thought I would indicate it in case someone else needs to order that ahead of time. I ordered my after the fact.GunnyL

I used the EVO Adventure (Low Bend) with ProTaper 7/8” to 1-1/8” for fat at conversion on a 2016 CB500X. I had dropped my CB500x on trails and bent the stock Honda bar 1st time. Since I had not invested a conversion, I had the same Honda bar replaced. Next season I dropped and bent the bar again. Obviously it was time for a fatbar! I have dropped the CB500x 4 times on trails within two weeks… a few times were hard drops on rocks. Absolutely not bending, I am super excited with this bar and recommend adding barkbusters with it.Jay

I tossed out the 7/8 bars that came on my Ducati Scrambler, got a set of these with some clamps that would accommodate. I opted to drill holes for the controls as opposed to grinding down the little nubs inside the controls – overall these completely changed my bike for the better. they sweep back just the teeniest bit that make riding upright more comfortable, as well as help when standing. Obviously, they're more sturdy and less likely to bend than the 7/8s – def recommend…functional upgrade, AND look greatKyle
