It’s a solid enough bike at a reasonable cost but does have a couple drawbacks. The breaks are pretty stiff and require a lot of hand force/strength and my 6 year old has so far struggled with getting stopped in short distances. I’m keeping my eyes on him and his ability to ride safely. The chain had a bad/stiff link which caused the bike to skip a link on every revolution of the chain. I was able to use vise grips, a screw driver, a hammer and silicone spray to get the link loosened up to run smoothly but it took a decent amount of time to diagnose the issue and fix it. I had to use an impact driver to get the handlebars tight enough, the supplied tools simply weren’t enough leverage.BRMD
I bought this bike for my daughter who had outgrown her kids bike. She is a small 12 year old and can fit nicely on the lowest settings of this bike. The directions were surprisingly easy to follow and we had the bike together rather quickly (less than an hour). Overall, great bike!
Bought for my sons birthday and the bars that hold the front tire were squeezed together. My husband had to pry them apart. The handle bar keeps spinning, no matter how tight we screw the screw in. He got the back at the beginning of this month and can’t ride it because the tires feel like he is holding the brakes, yet we have the brakes not even attached trying to make this work. Very unhappy with the purchase.

Worked well until the free hub body broke, Buying a spare was far from easy. Specialized probably buys big assembly or the whole bike from China with no documentation of what parts have been used other than whats in the broad spec. So they had no idea how to retrieve a new body or tell me what they have used. The only tip I got from Specialized support was incorrect and would not have fitted since the part is NOT Shimano as they suggested. The friendly local specialized mechanic suggested I rebuild the rear hub myself trying to find a complete hub with same spoke diameter to replace, and maybe not chose Specialized for next bike.Daniel
I got the previous model for my one of my kids so I was very happy, was about to pull the trigger on another for my 5yr old (tall kid) and I saw they were updated and $50 more than the 20”. No brainer so I ordered it. The bike will be easy to put together from anyone even if they never turned a wrench. BigS includes all the tools needed. The packaging although gives you a well put bike, due to the shipping, it damaged the top tube paint but specialized support helped me out with a return and exchange for a perfect one. This was the bike both my kids learned how to ride a pedal bike on. They both graduated from their strider bikes to this and never had training wheels. It's a great starter bike, it's light, forgiving, and perfect for most kids about 2-3.5 years old. It's obviously well engineered for small people, the step over height is right for them, the cranks and pedals are sized right, and they don't have to think twice about picking it up and riding. We bought our bike from Center Cycle in Renton, Wa. I'd gone in to pick up some part and my son who was about 2.5 at the time picked up this bike off the rack in the shop and rode it around the store for 20 minutes with no training wheels. Assembled this bike this morning. It's perfect. Quality parts, except for the reflectors; one is already broken and another cracked. I like that you can add/remove the training wheels without any tools. Chainguard is clipped plastic; looks OK, but I have my doubts it will survive a few falls. Would recommend the bike anyway.Max

You'll need the allen wrench that's a bit thicker than the typical Ikea allen wrenches (5 or 6 mm) – the other tools are pretty common. The trickiest part of assembly is to remove one of the brake shoes so you can pop in the front wheel (don't loosen the front brake line). Once that's done, put the brake shoe back on and spin the front wheel before securing it in (adjust it so that it doesn't rub the break pads that much). One thing that was not in the instructions is that the hand brake levers were pointed down instead of forward at least for me (which makes it hard to reach the levers) – I wasn't able to loosen the bolts that tighten the handlebar to adjust it – if that's the case, you'll need to loosen one of the screws near the brake lever (with the allen wrench) to adjust it – on the left handle, you can just pull the lever up. on right handle, the gear selector is in the way so you have to turn the lever all the way around.ambrose
This bike out of the box although looks nice has severe issues with the chain falling off. This is really a design flaw I believe with the derailleur. I've went through the instructions six times trying to address the derailleur in rear wheel to no avail, chain keeps falling off when switching gears or pedaling backwards comes off on the front sprocket! This bike is great for my growing 7 year old son. Our main problem is 1st gear – it constantly jumps the chain when in 1st (largest and last gear) and is trying to shift between 1st and 2nd. I believe this is due to the geometry of the bike and not the shift cables or derailleur. The chain looks bound and too strained when in 1st gear so its natural tendency is to move back to 2nd. The derailleur and the shifting cable are fine but they can't reduce the distance between the front and rear gears. We purchased on 3/6/21 and already can't return it to Walmart.wvcamrydude

THe first bike did come in damaged and they replaced it without questions. I needed to wait about 7 days for new bike and all was perfect this time. The bike is nice and light enough to carry up the stairs at condo in Florida and the 7 speeds are great for longer rides too. I waited over a year before writting this review as I wanted to see how the bike works first. I am about 230 lbs and 6'.1" tall and the bike operates perfect for me so anyone less than this should have no troubles. I do get some funny looks as the bike has smaller wheels/tires and had a policeman ask if I was a bear on a bike in the circus, I am hairy. The bike does not have much of a suspension so I would recommend a comfortable seat with suspension is a good purchase. This bike gets rides about 5 days a week for about 12-15 miles each time I ride it. Other things that are a good idea are a bell that is loud as I ride this bike in Florida and many on trail in park cannot hear me or have their headphones pumped up to 10, just dumb, as they do not know I am coming past them, even when I yell out, on your left. Try it and I think you will enjoy this bike as it does all I ask of it and more.Evil667
Bough this second hand even though i didnt like the shape i wanted to give it a try as my 1st folding bike without upgrades saddle is very stiff, grips no good unless you wear gloves, folding takes some time and you need a bungee cord and yes its heavy riding with original crankset 42t you have to pedal faster while you hurt your knees with that being said not good for long distance ride or commute.
Now with upgrades much better saddle, palm grips, crankset 48t with that i can pedal faster and gained 3-6mph and travel longer depending on the road while only hurting my thighs and not my knees.

The Bike has a wonderfully low body so that people with disabilities can mount and dismount easily. It would be perfect but the brakes keep breaking. I cannot yet ride a bike and I purchased this one because I'm trying to learn. I did nothing to cause the brakes to break. I replaced the bicycle once and now I'm having the same issue again only I cannot return the product because the window for returns has closed. I don't recommend purchasing this bike. Brake pads too close to wheel and too difficult to adjust after reading directions. The gear shifter is complicated and not working properly. While putting this together I noticed the nut where the handle bars was damaged and the handle bars wouldn't slide in, Also the end of the handle bars were damaged. After finding some parts locally I managed to get the handle bars on, only to find that the bolt for the seat was missing. Well my daughter is growing up so we needed a bigger bike. We didn't know what size she needed but decided on a 24" after Alex told us if we get a 20" bike we would be back in 6 months. I wasn't sure since she looked a little awkward in the store in the narrow isles but Alex was absolutely right. She loves this 24" bike. It doesn't have a front suspension but at her weight it would barely move and adds weight anyway. So instead we got the + version which has bigger tires for off-road to make up for not having a suspension. It also doesn't have disc brakes, but again no need, traditional brakes have advanced and they work great. The 7 speed gearing also works great and has the perfect number of gears for a 7 year old. The quality of this bike is outstanding. Also even though this is a boys bike, the orange color is very vibrant, much better than what the pic on the website shows. And is very visible to cars if she is riding it on the street. Hopefully I can upload a video later, too big to get off my phone easily. Definitely a recommended bike!Barry

I would like to mention that I bought two bikes, one for each of my sons and their riding styles are completely different. One rides it on dirt trails and the other rides only on paved roads. On the one that is only ridden on paved roads I have not had to change anything except the twist shifters. So, if you don’t plan on taking the bike off road, apart from the twist shifters, this bike will suit your needs. But if your child will be riding on dirt trails there are somethings that will need to know and/or change: Cons: The bike is heavy, even compare to my 29er GT Avalanche, the twist shifter was hard to turn (had to replace with trigger shifter), the 7 gear cog set is a joke (replaced with the 7 gear w/ mega range), the chain ring in my opinion is focused more on street riding rather than trail riding (I will also be replacing the chain ring with something smaller) and like every big box store bike the bearings need to be greased. Also, the tires wore out way too fast. I bought the bikes about 6 months ago and with trail/road riding at least twice a week the tires are already bald. When I got the bikes home I did a deeper inspection and found that the bikes were adjusted incorrectly. Pros: The bike is affordable compared to other kids bikes and with a few upgrades, like I mentioned above, the bike will be a great dirt trail machine for your beginner. The forks may seem stiff, but they are doing their job, I can see the dust line where the forks move up and down on my son's bike. And even though the frame is on the heavier side, when my son eventually outgrows it and gets a more trail ready bike he will appreciate the lighter frame a lot more. Neither one of the bikes has had a chain dropped as mentioned in some of the other reviews, but I did adjust the bikes myself after the “bike mechanic” “adjusted” them in the store.Ramkin326
We bought one of these last year for our Oldest 9yr old then and now we have gotten another for our 7year old. They range between 54" & 61" tall, and they fit the bikes really well. They have shocks, easy to use gears, and have good looking paint schemes. These are really nice bikes for the money and should last the kids a long time as there it plenty of adjustments. Dicks assembled this one while we waited and all I can say is I am impressed with the workers & the training they have. Sure enough after spending extra to purchase a good quality bike it was a complete fail. Several problems, one after the next. The imaginable happened. After adjusting the tightening the handle bars because their mechanism is faulty my kid got hurt riding this peace of junk. The company needs to rethink their quality and SAFETY! A bad run of parts. My issue was that even though we ordered ship to store, we got the bike unassembled. TYpically we buy bikes instore, but because it was right after christmas the stock was low and we could not find a bike for my son that fit him. So we ordered ship to store. Very dissapointed that it was not assembled. Long story of this is that we had bought one instore that was defective the peddle fell off while my son was riding it. Our experience has been similar to the other review. I have been messing with it for the last 2 days with no luck in getting the bike to perform as expected. Huffy has selected very bad components for this unit. The breaks are very fiddly. Even if you find a good placement for them at the start of the ride, they easily come out of position during the ride. This results in the breaks continually rubbing against the rim of the tire(s). The shifter is too tight for a child to use (it is tough for even a grown-up to shift). If you adjusted the shifter for an easier shift, it no longer moves the chain between gears. Breaking and shifting are fundamental capabilities of a mountain bike. It is a very frustrating unit.CO.QBizzle
As others have noted, the shifter is awful. No chance that my 8 year old can get it to budge. I called huffy and they sent a replacement. After I put it on the bike, it's the same as the first. Impossible to move. I called again and asked for a different type of shifter before wasting my time putting on another. They said they would and it arrived today, but it's the SAME SHIFTER.
