Reviews:
This tire has a lot o grip. But the side wall height of the tire is less that my previous one ( 1 1/4"). So the ride is more harder. You'll need to deflate a lot to have a comfortable ride. Also because it's a grippy tire you'll loose a little bit of speed. The studs are small, but I think it is a good size. In fact, if you can find this tire at a bargain price I will go for it. Otherwise, you'll need to spend almost 250$/each. Remember, this tire is for condition where you have a lot of snow or icy conditions. If you ride in groom places, where the snow is packed, you can choose something else. My previous tire was a Big Daddy 4.9"(the most basic tire you can find). To finish, the most important thing I found out about this tire is the balloon ride and a little speed lost compare to my previous tire. But I gain more grip. You can't have it all.martinbicycles1
I've had these on only a couple of days. Ice this winter is tough – near freezing so a bit of water on top in places. I've cycled singletrack with spotty ice. Going down hill and uphill on the icy trails has been consistent and stable, for the most part. Riding on flat glaze ice for long periods has also been stable. No crashes in about 5 hours of riding. Wish I could post a pic, but no way I see to do that. As for lightweight, a 4.8" nominal studded tire is heavy, but compared to others, it's as lightweight as it's going to be. I installed Specialized 26 x 3 tubes to also lighten the weight and that s working fine. For the novice, getting these large tires to seat can be tricky. Had to take the rear one up to almost 30 psi to get it to seat. At that pressure, a sudden blowout could have been ugly! All is well.cyclistguy
Studded bike tire user for many years so this isn't my first studded tire. The rubber compound was hard and felt cheap for a snow/ice tire. The studs were rounded and smooth to the touch. The actual tire width on a 94mm (100mm) rim was 4.67", why do they lie on the short side all the time ? Finally, when it came time for the grip on ice, only marginally better than non-studded. Still plenty of slip when torqueing up hills. I will not be ordering another one. What I will do is order the plain non-studded tire and install my own 45N concave studsbc-brands

Fast shipping the the US. Our e-bike came with huge mountain bike tires that were showing wear pretty quickly on pavement. I needed something a little narrower to work with the SKS wide fenders anyway, and went with these. They roll smooth, and the rubber compound is harder. They still feel good on the road, and hold well in corners.Teamjt
I put these tires on a Specialized Levo hardtail. Awesome for street, smooth ride, pretty good on wet surfaces, a little dicey in loose dirt/leaves. I wish the lifespan of the tires would be a little better, these are my summer tires, they got about 2000km from two seasons of riding, rotated them at 1000km. They are pretty much at the end of their life. In terms of "fatbike" style tires, there are not too many options out there in 27.5, this one is a very good choice that served me well. Will most probably replace with the same model.scott ko.
I ride my 2016 Giant Talon 1 on pavement and concrete almost daily for exercise. I almost never ride on dirt and so I decided to upgrade my tires to a more street capable set. I did extensive online research to find the right tire and ended up picking this tire as sold from Jenson. I love the low rolling resistance and puncture resistant feature of this tire. I usually ride anywhere from 6 to 11 miles per day and don't have to worry about punctures like I used to with my bike's original tires. I like the tires so much that I bought a set for my wife's Talon 1 as well! I highly recommend this tire! PROS: Attractive Design, Durable, Easy To Install CONS: NoneBooomer762

5 stars! This tire is very supple – up to ~1cm roots, rocks and sharp edges essentially disappear. You have to adjust your expectations because the suppleness is like having very low pressure, but actually I use ~1.8bar. It's a godsend for a hardtail. The rolling resistance is very low. On road or dirt I use 1 gear higher, so I estimate 5-10% faster than the normal casing. This also applies to climbing. It feels very fast. The braking traction is good. On the street, the tire can skid slightly before expected; on the trail there are no surpises. Durability seems really good. I use the 2.35" version.Martin Na.

13. Schwalbe Magic Mary Tire – Tubeless Folding Black Evolution Addix Soft Snakeskin

Product Details:
The schwalbe mary addix soft is favoured by downhill and enduro professionals. the magic mary is the all-rounder among gravity tyres; this is a great pick for all tracks! its aggressive open profile design with sturdy shoulder nubs provides great traction in turns and ensures maximum braking performance, even in very muddy terrain. the addix soft excels in regards to traction and rolling properties. this style fits seamlessly in the world of enduro and downhill. but in all-mountain and trail riding disciplines, the addix soft is popular as well. the compound of addix soft not only offers good traction and rolling properties, but a long lifespan too. the snakeskin tissue on the side wall offers great protection against sharp rocks, gravel, tree roots and other obstacles. this minimises likelihood of a punctured tyre with just 40 to 50 grams of extra weight. combining other tyres with addix speedgrip is also very popular. for extra grip in muddy terrain, the addix soft in front and the speedgrip in the rear is a good choice. for more dampening, use ultra soft in front and addix soft in the rear. this allows you to ride with the best combination anywhere, anytime.
Specifications:
Reviews:
The Magic Mary has been awesome; one of the best tires I've ever had so far. Going tubeless was no problem; it seated easily. The bike park version is great; it is heavier due to the thick casing, but it has never been punctured! When I pull thorns out of my WTB in the front, there are none in the Magic Mary, which I run in the rear. Great grip; so far the best grip out of every tire I've ridden. Lots of air volume which makes it easy to run lower pressures. The wear is only on the knobs (sidewalls hold up great) and it wears faster than I would like, however I run this tire at my local trails with some parking lot practice and not as much at the bike park as I would like, so for the beating it takes from my hardtail Nukeproof, the wear is expected. I seated this tire tubeless with Orange Seal, on a Spank Spoon rim with a 27mm internal diameter. I measured the contact patch of the tire on this rim to be 2.36 inches. Awesome tire! I definitely recommend it.WADE
Well I finally went tubeless and these were on my DH ship for her maiden voyage. Holy crap I can't believe how well these tires grip! They remind me of my motocross bikes knobby tires. The rubber compound is very sticky and after 6 rides the rear is showing wear. This is the reason for the 4 star rating. They're pricey for sure. I'm hoping to get a full season out of these but not looking that great for the rear. Otherwise I'd def buy again! Especially for front mount. Track well, grip like crazy, consistent cornering and braking rocks too.K
I match my Magic Mary in the front with my Hans Derf in the rear. This combination is unstoppable. The Magic Mary sticks to the ground like no other and the cornering is unbelievable. I have found this combination to be incredible in all conditions rather it is dry and compact, wet and muddy, rocky or smooth. Get these tires and you can't go wrong.Steve S.

Reviews:
4 Stars only due to ridiculous price of fat tires. Excellent in all conditions… It's a faster rolling nate. Bigger knobs than nate in height. Grippy as it ain't the hudu or fatbnimble. Full knobs to edge that protect that thin sidewalland make cornering nice. If you have less natural (manicured and dry) trails they might be overkill but for rugged natural gnarly they can't be beat. They are lightweight so expect that kind of toughness 120tpi vs surprised the day they tear open on some horrible day. Rolls nicely and easily for any fat tire let alone grippy one. Not running tubeless as conti light 26 tube at 130grams is far less hassle/mess and works as required while super light already. Sealant and tape probably weighs more than conti light simplicity. Thorn issues are rare for me so tubeless is pointless mess unless you like pulling 100 thorns out first vs the 1 that popped your tube before you put the spare tube in. Wish they gave it to me for this review so no disclosure needed. PROS: Easy To Install, Durable, Knobs Right To Edges, Lightweight CONS: Price, Thin SidewallSalsa Slamming
Good tire if the studs didn't fall out. I had dozens of studs fall out of both tires in first couple of short rides on frozen ground. I tried to get a warranty claim going but both Jenson & 45NRTH kept pointing the finger at one another so I gave up and just bought a stud insertion tool & a package of studs. For the $240 I paid EACH, I'm not impressed. Also, if I were to do it again, I would just get this tire for the rear and something else for the front.INTUNEMARINE
I just spent a week commuting daily on ice & winter mix after purchasing a pair of the 4.8s for my fatty. The difference between these and the 4.0 normal fatty tires is breathtaking. Commuting on black ice, snow and packed, glazed snow is now worry free. These tires are worth every penny in rider confidence. They climb the "lip" at the edge of the asphalt next to the shoulder effortlessly. (Regular fatty tires won't, period.) They are noisy like automotive studs, and take more effort to push down the road, but I don't worry about sudden traction loss anymore when winter complicates my commute. A must have for true snow & ice winter commuting! Be ready for flying slop when the roads melt! I bought "mud shovels" & added some homemade fenders to keep the ick that my front tire throws straigjt up- off.Bendcommuter
15. Maxxis Minion Dhf

Product Details:
Probably the most driven and in recent years most successful downhill tyre in the world. the minion dhf combines proven elements such as bevelled studs for low rolling resistance and smooth running with longitudinally slotted studs for more grippy edges. this gives it excellent directional stability and precise cornering behaviour. it is the reference for fast tracks, from light freeride to hard downhill. 3c maxxgripthe well-known 3c downhill mix that many of the best downhillers have trusted for years is now called 3c maxxgrip. 3c maxxgrip offers the ultimate grip and cushioning for unparalleled downhill traction. tubeless readytubeless tyres have many advantages: you can drive with less air pressure. this gives better traction and reduces rolling resistance. and where there is no inner tube, the risk of a puncture also decreases. maxxis tr tyres are better prepared for mounting with sealing milk than other tubeless ready tyres. the bead of the tr tires is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real ust tubeless tire. this means that the tubeless mounting is successful on all rims with standard dimensions even with the first inflation and with little liquid. wide trailthe wide trail construction optimises the tread layout and tyre shape on today's modern wider rims. traditional tires are designed for narrow rims and are too angular on wide rims for optimal performance. all maxxis wt tyres are optimised for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but function perfectly on all rims with an inner diameter between 30 and 39 mm.
Specifications:
Weight | 2.77 lb |
Reviews:
The grip of the DHF is undisputed, so I'm not even going to address that here. If you're ordering the 29 x 2.5 dual compound tire, know that while the tire is foldable, the casing is the DH casing, which means it is HEAVY. Two 60 TPI plies. That fact is not clear on EVO's webpage at all, but that is not unique to EVO. I've seen other sellers doing the same. I have it mounted on a 29mm inner width rim and at it's widest, it measures out as a 2.5 from knob to knob. The carcass measures around 58mm at a normal riding pressure. You can get the carcass to measure 63mm by pumping it up to the max pressure of 50 psi. It might stretch out a bit if you leave it there for 48 hours. Based on my (somewhat limited) experience with Maxxis, narrower than advertised is fairly typical for them. At any rate, being dual compound with a DH casing, this is a tire that I'll be living with for quite a while. One of the pros is that it is nearly indestructible, so I can feel free to slam into most anything. The DHF is one of those tires that comes in so many configurations that most anyone can find one that will put them in their happy place. Just know what you're ordering.Oldern'slower
Recently purchased a new bike and it came with 2.4's. The bike I'm replacing it with has a 2.8 in the front and 2.6 rear. Definitely not a fan of the narrower tires the new bike has so went up to 2.6 in the front. It does make a difference and just don't understand this trend back to the 90's with narrow tires. I ride mostly technical, rocky, rooty New England trails and the 2.4's just don't track like wider tires. At least I found this and it's working well.Jeremy S.
Did a lot of research on these Minion DHF vs DHR's and it came down to basically ones personal preference. I chose these tires for the durability, gripping capability especial for downhill sharp turns and technical trails. Great rollover on rocks and great tractions on those steep climbs. Plus I love the overall look of the tan wall…put them on my Cannondale Habit (29r) and have just been having a blast on the trails with confidence. Maxxis has not let me down! Thanks EVO for your help in choosing the right tires for my liking. -RogerRoger
