We purchased this unit after reviewing everything on the market. This unit by far has the nicest effect…. It seriously looks like fire. However….. once installed, and the heat is on, there is a noise like metal expanding and flexing….. it's a "boing" noise. Interesting that it happens at almost 24 seconds every time the heat is cycled. There apparently a "motor" coming as warrant….. I'm almost certain it's not the motor. Also….. in the demonstrations one of the effects is a "blue" glow….. when we employ this function we can barley see the blue color…. it's there but you need to look underneath the logs to see it….. not much of a pleasing feature sitting back. Would like an answer to this as I've sent in the comments and nobody has responded.Kone
I have owned a Dimplex RBF36 for a year now and it is the most realistic electric fireplace I've ever seen. Having individually lighted logs that vary in brightness independently of each other and the most realistic flame effect are only part of the story. The brick pattern and angled rear walls do indeed give the appearance of greater depth than the unit actually has. The plexiglass divider between the front and rear sections of the insert employs an innovative partial mirror that is used in a unique way that blends real logs in the rear section with reflections of logs in the front. This is what perfectly hides the flame light equipment, and is a marvel that results in the best optical illusion you will find in an electric fireplace. The flames seem to come from the center of the log stack and are so realistic, after a few minutes, you just forget it is electric and realize you have a fantastic fireplace that turns on and off at the touch of a remote control. I personally prefer the setting with none of the available lighting that can light up the inside bricks. This choice allows just the logs and flames to light up and produces a very convincing fire in a fireplace look. The heating is also warm and efficient. The desired temperature is easily set by remote and verified by a display that lights up when active and then disappears it just a few moments. The only feature that would improve my experience would be to be able to turn off the beep sound it makes when turned on-off or when the heater is turned on or off. This is only because my dog just doesn't like it, so we usually let him out first and then turn it on or off. This is an outstanding fire box! The flame is incredibly realistic looking and adds great ambience to my living room. I have not yet hardwired it, simply using it with a regular outlet, the heat output is very nice, adds warmth to my 500 sq ft living room. The blower is noticeable but not too loud. We are really enjoying our electric fireplace. The installation process was very easy. The rough-in specs were accurate and the fireplace mounted with ease. Installing the glass was simple – only two screws. The fireplace puts out a fair amount of heat – not going to heat the entire room – but you can certainly feel the heat. I’ve got a 4 year old and 2 year old and my primary concern was the heating element. The front of the fireplace does not get extremely hot and is safe to the touch. Aesthetically, it is very pretty and my kids enjoy the “flames” change colors. It’s exceeded our expectations!Daniel G.
This looks great. I will say that I’m disappointed that it has a hum when it is flame only. I expected it to sound like a space heater when the heat was on, but it’s too noisy for my liking in general. Also bought a Dimplex Sierra to compare—the Dimplex made no noise when the flame alone was on. The Dimplex also had a larger heating element (2 inches longer than the TS) and put out more heat. First of all the shipping was amazing and only a few days. Customer service is wonderful. We got it about 3 days after ordering. I had a “honey I have an idea” moment and just ran with it. I love the way it turned out and made our new house become a home to us. The only thing is we had an old one in a furniture piece that had a thermostat. That was nice so it would shut off when it reached a certain temp. But this one is better quality and style. I love that you can do either the crystals or log. The bookcases are Billy from ikea with oxberg doors. One recommendation is to find an electrician to run a dedicated line. The amp draw is 11+. So, hopefully this review will help someone. I am an interior designer and knew I wanted to go with the dimplex revillusion. This was my own personal project (which is so much harder for me to pick compared to a client) so it was really tricky if I wanted the herringbone or weathered concrete. At first, when I saw other reviews in pictures, I loved the herringbone and thought that was the one. But then I was able to see it in person and felt it looked fake because the herringbone is not a faux brick but actually a sticker (of some sort). Which made me rethink…maybe the weathered concrete would look more realistic (I was not able to see the weathered concrete in person). So, I went with my gut….and I am so HAPPY I did! The weathered concrete definitely looks more realistic to a gas insert and just blends because it is more neutral and not different colors (ex. The herringbone has the fake grout lines and brick that are different colors). The other thing I did, was get some lava rock and placed it in the front (where there was no glow) before the glass went on. It just adds such a realistic touch! I am beyond happy with it! When my husband and I were thinking of a gas insert, there was soooo much cost with that! So, this looks just as realistic as a gas insert but much cheaper because it is electric! Also, I went with electric fireplaces plus because they beat all the pricing out there! They were terrific to work with! And the shipping was super fast! This is a beautiful, modern fireplace that would look amazing in any room! However this has a short cord (do not use extension cord unless it's the right grade, but still not suggested) on the left side of product and my socket is on the right side! Cord does not reach! Also other fireplaces I've looked at had the heat come out of the bottom, and this one comes out of the top! I planed to mount this on a wall that has shelving above, and a tv, however it's to close to the heat, and may start a fire if I'm not careful! They recommend about a 40 inch space between the unit and anything above it! Although it's beautiful, I may not be able to use it for what I planned! May need to sell it and buy a fireplace with a wood mantle that is safer! If you have nothing on the wall you mount it to and your electrical outlet is on the left ( your right ) then this may be just what your looking for!richnsandy313
Relatively simple to set up. Looks amazing! The only issue that I have is that the ad did not indicate that the unit is a "wall mount" unit. This really is the only reason why I did not give it five stars. I was able to set it up as a free standing unit but anyone that buys this unit needs to know that the heat comes out of the top, not the front. The website had the specifications to accurately measure for the project. Ordering was easy and the fireplace arrived in about 7 days. The alternate trim pieces were installed to get a prefect fit. One problem came up when installing the bottom trim. The holes on the trim for the screws were off 1/8 to 1/16 of an inch. A small rat tail file was used to elongate the holes for a proper fit.George I.
I needed about 1 inch more than the 4 inch trim so I used the extra trim piece that came with the 4 inch trim kit. Just laid it under the trim and it looks great. We wanted a gas fireplace but unfortunately that was not within the budget. This fireplace is honestly a great second choice though. Heats a 450 sqft room well and the flames look real. Only issue I have with the unit is the thermostat. I set the unit to heat the room to 72 but it will heat the room about 4 degrees higher than what it’s set at. Our home thermostat is in the same room so this is how I know the units temperature is off. Fireplace installs and looks great. But from factory the thermostat did not work and it would run constantly on any set degree. I called and they sent me a new thermostat. After tearing the fireplace completely apart to install the new one it still doesn’t work. I have a very expensive digital thermometer in the room and if it says it’s 66 degrees in there I have to turn the fireplace up to 78 or 80 for it to turn on ( it should turn on at 66 or 68) Also a week or two later the digital display on the front of the fireplace works when it wants too and sometimes freezes on a number for hours then goes black. It’s really unfortunate after spending this much money on a unit and designing my entire new fireplace that cost thousands around this insert. I was really hoping for something that worked much better than this.Garrett

Stopped working after one winter. Bought at Costco. Another friend bought the same one and identical thing happened to her. She threw hers out, mine is sitting there taking up room. The size is perfect for our master bedroom (roughly 14' by 14'), both in heat output and in not taking up too much space. I temporarily assembled it with the stand for placement on top of my chest of drawers, and then converted it to wall mount after moving some furniture for wall space (both were very easy,). We love the flame and ember bed selections, but for now have settled on the orange bed with orange and blue flames (very realistic. Very soothing to where staring at it helps us to fall asleep. The included remote controls ALL of the functions the main panel controls (I owned one before that the remote would control all but the temperature). We are very pleased with the fireplace and can't wait to use it this winter!KTMrider58
After 1.5 years of casual use the unit won’t heat anymore. Only the lights work. I contacted ghp and wasn’t able to get a replacement because it was past the 1 year warranty. I was surprised to read many other reviews that had the same heat problem. Very disappointed as I quite liked the unit visually. Don’t lose the remote though or you can’t control the temperature. Very easy to hang like a picture frame. Love the different color light options. Since I hung it higher up the wall, the heat output goes towards ceiling, which is why traditional fireplaces are placed on the bottom. If heat is very important, hang lower. Bought this for our master bedroom and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!! It looks so real and I love that you can use it with the heat or without. The changing of colors AWESOME!!! Even though it sticks out from wall five inches with the curved edge you can even tell it looks great on the wall! Because of the way our builder framed the fireplace wall (which was before we knew which fireplace we were going to buy and couldn’t be reframed easily due to where the headers and king/jack studs were located), we were limited to a unit where the back inset height dimension was less than 17.75” and this was one of the only 50” models that would fit as most others need 18” height. We have no issue with the look or performance so far. The reason for only 4 stars is the very vague instructions with drawings so small they were difficult to decipher. We couldn’t find any installation video for this model, and the majority that we viewed show flanges that are screwed into the studs on either side of a unit. However, on this model we finally figured out that you have to stick a screwdriver into a cut out from the front of the unit through a hole in the back and into a support stud behind. Adding that extra stud wasn’t difficult as we were dealing with an open wall at the time, but a simple video or larger pictures or more detail in the instructions would have earned 5 stars.
I think foremost, I agree with many of the other reviews saying the flames could be more prominent. In comparison to the glass beads provided, the flames get washed out. I'm considering adding some window tint to the bottom to see if that will balance them out, but for the time being my wife is happy with it. The other thing I notice is a hum coming from it. I've tried plugging it into various outlets to see if it was the particular outlet, but that didn't appear to be the case. It's not obnoxious, but it is there. Others reported it to be silent so I'm not sure if the one I have is slightly defective. I installed this next to the bathroom bathtub which of course is a smaller room and echo-y, so maybe it's just more noticeable in that type of environment. It was added more for ambience so the heater unit hasn't been used much, but it is functional. Installation was pretty straightforward. The unit was the depth of a 2×4 so I had to cut through one completely for the 36" model, and so it sits pretty much flush against the wall. Calling it easy to install should be taken with a grain of salt since it did require cutting a big whole in the wall, cutting out part of a 2×4 (with a finished wall on the opposite side) and installing an outlet, but certainly feasible for most do-it-yourself-ers. I'd like to give it 4 stars if it wasn't for the hum. I wish there was more info (or less conflicting info) as to whether or not it was making a normal amount of noise. I don't want to bother getting a replacement only to find that's the typical amount of noise. In the end, the wife is pleased with it so it's good for the price.
We absolutely loved our Fireplace. We had it built in (see photo). We never received a remote, contacted the seller, told them about the remote the rattling noise. They requested I send them a video to help detect the problem. I’m older not to savvy with technology…. I couldn’t get the video to send through the ap.. After several frustrating attempts, the seller gave me a phone number to text the video to, it worked!! Once they received it, they were great to work with. They said it was the motor they would either replace the Fireplace or give us a full refund.
