After reading some of these reviews I decided to write this positive review. I really enjoy this fireplace after having it installed by a professional last year. It has operated as I expected and exceeded my expectations on looks as well as relaxing to look as well as warming up the room. If I don’t want the warmth I just leave the blower off. The energy use is not even noticeable on my bill. I guess if I were to choose one minor negative it would be when the fireplace is off. I couldn’t be happier with this insert! I’ve never installed a fireplace before this so I was glad to see that the instructions were detailed and the installation was straightforward. I was able to build my surround based on the measurements provided — fool proof! Once it was all installed, I was so excited to play around with the features. What sold me was easily the multiple color options and interchangeable media bed! I love switching up the colors to create a different mood within my home. The exchangeable media bed is such a cool feature. I recently switched out the crystals for the logs and it feels so welcoming – just in time for the holidays! The instructions for this are horrible. There's an option to go to a webpage for them but it's the same exact useless thing. They are a bit jumbled and not the most clear since they are just a few pictures per installation type. We did the floor install for now since we're redoing the room it's in but we do plan to put it in the wall eventually. We've also not yet tried the rocks because we're going slow on deciding how we want this to look. It still looks cool without them though. There's so many options that this gives you. You can literally customize it to your liking. The ember and fire both change colors independently. And there's a wide variety of colors to go through including just embers if you want. The fire brightness is adjustable as well so you can make the room really cozy. The timer on this goes for up to 8 hours and is easily set with the remote. The heat is adjustable as well. That goes from 64 to 82 so for someone that is always freezing like I am, this feature is amazing.Cassie
My original plan was to actually install this into the wall during a basement remodel but that still hasn't happened so I finally just hung it on our bedroom wall and LOVE it! Hanging it on the wall is as simple as ******** two brackets into studs on the wall and then hang/attaching the fireplace onto it – extremely easy. It came with the faux-wood, large & small clear stones, and white stones. We chose to use the large and small clear stones (I don't know how you would use just the large stones to fill the space). There's no sound when using just the fireplace lights. The remote allows us to easily change the flame style and the rock-glow style. The heater element works well. By hanging it on the wall it's created a small shelf for light objects (ie. two picture frames). We keep them away from the center where the heating element is. The electrical cord is significant so if hanging like we did I would recommend getting a cord cover to run it down the wall. All in all, I love it and can't believe how easy it was to put up!!ekid

My husband and I are still in the process of building the shiplap wall to mount the fireplace in. But, even though the installation part isn't complete yet, the unit is sitting on the floor in the spot where it will eventually be built in and I run it every day. I really enjoy looking at the flames. I started off using the logs but decided to try out the glass rocks and both my husband and I agree that we prefer the way those look over the logs. The only thing I would recommend for improvement would be if Touchstone offered some printable PDF plans for different standardized ways to build the wall thing for it to fit into. I actually wrote customer service and asked if they had anything like this that they could email me. All they did was refer me back to the approximately 1 minute video on the product webpage that we both had already watched many times. I have found some other, longer videos on YouTube (not necessarily affiliated with Touchstone) and we've watched those. But, it sure would be nice to be able to print out some actual plans with measurements, a parts list, etc. It might even be worth it to us to have the opportunity to *purchase* such a set of plans. (So, there's a money-making idea for y'all!) One other idea would be that I would like to be able to fill out a registration for it like you can for other types of expensive electronic equipment. I read all about the warranty and I guess it isn't necessary because it comes with a 1-year warranty included. But somehow it just seems more official or something when you go through the process of "registering" a purchase. Bottom line, though. It looks great and when the whole project is finished, is going to completely transform our living room. OK, well, here is one more idea that I have had for years related to this type of product. I actually own three electric fireplaces that come from different manufacturers so this isn't specifically targeted at Touchstone. (Obviously I am a fan of this concept.) But I've always wondered why they can't build these with photo-realistic fire on an LCD screen. CGI is so advanced now that lots of times it is almost impossible to tell if something is real or not (as in gaming and TV.) That doesn't seem like that would cost any more and it might make it almost indetectable to know that it isn't real. I even thought you could have two screens, one in front of the other. The one in the back would be a regular LCD panel with photorealistic fire and then a second screen that is semi-transparent would be positioned in front of that one and display the current flame pattern. It would act kind of like an overlay that would basically just add depth and reality to the main LCD screen in the back. Even if you didn't do that, I think just a pretty decent high-resolution monitor with flame imagery might actually appear more realistic.Mary A.

This fireplace is beautiful. I have concrete walls, so I bought this to hang on the wall- not recessed. I had to but an additional wall-mount kit. Unless you have a dedicated electric outlet immediately to the right bottom of where you'll hang this, be prepared to deal with an unsightly plug and power cord. The fireplace stones that were SUPPOSED to come with unit, did not. I called and was told they'd be sent. I am still waiting for those. Otherwise, I love it. Consider buying the crackling noise to add the ambiance of a fire.Jeanne

The fire is really very realistic and I'm a stickler for such things. And our bedroom is about 18'x15' and on the max heat it heats the room quickly and efficiently. My only other complaint is on the remote, that you have to click thru each button cycle to get what you want. For instance, if you want low blue fire and medium orange fire, you have to click manually thru each color one by one till you get it. Same with the heat, have to click on the heat button 3 times to get high heat and then another 3 times if you want to lower it. All in all we LOVE it, just wanted others to know the little nuances we learned.Maria

We are really enjoying our electric fireplace. The installation process was very easy. The rough-in specs were accurate and the fireplace mounted with ease. Installing the glass was simple – only two screws. The fireplace puts out a fair amount of heat – not going to heat the entire room – but you can certainly feel the heat. I’ve got a 4 year old and 2 year old and my primary concern was the heating element. The front of the fireplace does not get extremely hot and is safe to the touch. This looks great. I will say that I’m disappointed that it has a hum when it is flame only. I expected it to sound like a space heater when the heat was on, but it’s too noisy for my liking in general. Also bought a Dimplex Sierra to compare—the Dimplex made no noise when the flame alone was on. The Dimplex also had a larger heating element (2 inches longer than the TS) and put out more heat. First of all the shipping was amazing and only a few days. Customer service is wonderful. We got it about 3 days after ordering. I had a “honey I have an idea” moment and just ran with it. I love the way it turned out and made our new house become a home to us. The only thing is we had an old one in a furniture piece that had a thermostat. That was nice so it would shut off when it reached a certain temp. But this one is better quality and style. I love that you can do either the crystals or log. The bookcases are Billy from ikea with oxberg doors. One recommendation is to find an electrician to run a dedicated line. The amp draw is 11+. This is a great quality fireplace for the price. I bought this to be installed on a floating entertainment center. There's a bracket that is installed and the fireplace sits in that bracket. It is very secure. I love the length it is the same width as the entertainment center. It is very easy to install. I left the logs as I didn't like the look of the glass rocks. I tried to combine the logs and rocks but didn't like that either. The remote is very easy to operate. I love this fireplace and highly recommended. Fire place is beautiful however the fire place is damaged. It make a loud clucking sound like some is loose. I called Cambridge customer service whom referred me back to Walmart to return. Walmart has not responded nor picked up the device. We love it! Love the large size and the flame is not cheesy like some electric fireplaces. (Colors on this one are only orange and white which is a-okay with me!) It’s not loud. The controls are easy. You can control the temperature settings, blower settings, light/flame settings, and even set a timer. It blows out hot air but is not hot to the touch which is great for us with small kids. And it’s literally a fraction of the cost of a gas insert! The fireplace is exactly as advertised. I built a special wall with nickel lap siding and direct wired it to a switch. We have a new home and converted the dinning room into a sitting room. I had an electric fireplace insert in our downstairs game room in our previous house which I installed and actually used to take the chill out of the 1200 square foot room. However that was a 220 volt insert rated to do just that. We knew when we purchased this fireplace that since it is only 120 volt that it would not produce much heat and that was not the intent of purchasing this unit. It was just for accenting the room which it does nicely. We will never attempt to provide heat with this unit and that’s ok. Although the flames are not 100 percent realistic there are enough options built into this unit to make it look good, especially for the price point. The included crystals, logs and drift wood is also a good value and combined with the different flame and fire bed options I’m sure you will be happy. Since I built out a wall specifically for this unit I waited until I received it and took my own measurements for the opening which I made about a 1/4 inch larger. The only reason I removed one star from the rating is the way the customer service wants you to receive the fireplace. We got an email and then a phone call stating that we had to inspect the package and if there was any damage to the box we were to take a picture and refuse the delivery. I don’t know about everyone else but we don’t set by the door waiting for the delivery person and most of the time our packages are just left at the door. I explained that to the customer service rep. Also I asked what about if the box looked good and the fireplace was damaged anyway inside. She said that we should sign the delivery receipt and write on it that we reserve the right to refuse it after we open the package. We were only given I think 24 hours to do all this. That whole process was going overboard and a complete turn off for us.John G.
Just Installed my fireplace hardwired in a built in enclosure without issues. The unit works great however the fan is a little louder than I had hoped but nothing crazy. The system looks awesome and heats the 20×20 area without issues. Only had system for a couple of weeks now so I can’t comment on reliability. Touchstone was awesome to deal with and even offered the system at a discounted price. The unit arrived as stated on a pallet and double boxed. We have a low two-side wood-burning fireplace we did not want to use due to expensive heat loss and we did not need extra heat., So we plugged the chimney with a DIY chimney pillow and got the slim line elite 80042 which closely matches the log-side opening of the fireplace and installed it in front with an oak surround on the sides and top. Worked out fine and looks great. We won’t be using the heat options as we don’t need them. We’ll plug it in to a smart plug and use Alexa to turn it on and off, leaving at the setting we prefer.
