I have always had to shave every day–sometimes twice! It seemed like the moment I stepped out of the shower, I already had stubble. On top of that, I have keratosis pilaris, so shaving was very irritating to my bumpy skin. Since the hair on my legs grew back so quickly, I decided to take the extra time to carefully do individual pulses, especially on my calves. I figured out a really efficient way so that I get full coverage in less than 10 minutes for both legs. The results have been beyond my expectations! This was my first experience with IPL, so I was very nervous, but definitely excited. The instructions for the SmoothSkin Pure Fit IPL Hair Removal System were very simple and easy to understand. There are only 3 buttons on the whole machine, so you feel very confident that there's nothing you'll forget to do or do incorrectly. Once you turn the machine on, it's instantly ready to go and you can place it against your skin. I have always had a lot of excess body and facial hair, have spent decades having IPL at the beautician’s with limited success, and have suffered the rashes and ingrown hairs from shaving and waxing since I was a teenager. I have olive skin which tans easily with dark hair. This is the first product which has actually worked. Did my investigations/comparisons and decided to bite the bullet and purchase, luckily had vouchers for Chrimbo that covered a lot of the cost but definitely worth it. Apart from the testimonies, etc, another reason for purchasing was that there was a decent returns window if I found that this was not suitable for me. So I’ve never actually heard of an IPL machine until I started researching ways to reduce hair growth, smooth skin for longer etc and after reading up online, the Lumea was the product that was well know and the most talked about and liked product. I received the Lumea Advanced and it looked so classy and extremely well made, I read through the instructions and did my test site 24 hours before. First session – the instructions are clear and for the device and what it does, it’s very easy to use, I found when I am doing the treatment I have to reduce the intensity when I get to my knee caps and my ankles, it’s a very bizarre sensation at times but does not hurt at all, I did struggle up my shin bone as I have quite thin legs but I just turned the Lumea length ways and it’s seems to have worked fine. Afte the first session i already noticed a drastic change in hair growth, I only have to shave my underarm twice in the first 2 weeks and my legs once’s, I wasn’t expecting miricales but I was very surprised with the outcome after one treatment. It becomes difficult at times to get in the right position and get all areas but over time you learn and get in a flow/routine. Second Session – I felt the second session was a lot easier than the first session, as I knew what to expect and I also had mastered the art of using the Lumea and the angles to hold it at to ensure all areas were covered, again with the intensity I reduced by 1 around the ankle and the kneecap area. This time round I haven’t seen any drastic change, so shaved armpits 3 times and legs once. I’m due to do my 3rd treatment in 2 days and I’m excited to see the final result. This is the first time I have used a hair removal device. I have always shaved or used cream which didn’t really suit my skin. I have been using the product for over 6 weeks now on a bi weekly basis as per instructions. There are 5 settings that you can play around with until you get the right one for your skin. The skin tone sensor will prevent you from using too high a setting which is a great built in feature, I did have to go down a setting on occasion when the sensor picked up a change in my skin tone. So far, I have used on my legs and underarms building up the confidence to use in other areas. The small lightweight gun shaped design is easy to use and manoeuvre with a decent length cord to allow movement up and down the leg. Once you select the correct window attachment for the area (there are 3) you simply press the window on to the skin, wait for the light to let you know it is ready to go and press the button before moving on to the next area. You do have to keep track of the areas you have flashed but for larger areas you can press and hold for continuous pulses. There is a very bright flash to let you know it has delivered the pulse and although not painful, you are aware it has connected with the skin. After the first use, I didn’t think anything was happening but I noticed a real difference after the second use. I could also see where I had missed small areas but that is down to my inexperience of using this kind of device. By week 6 and the 3rd use, there was a definite improvement and although not silky smooth, there was perhaps 70% clear and I intend to keep going perfecting my use of the device. On a side note, this is not to be used on the eyebrows but it comes with a separate facial hair trimmer which can be used for this area which is a great addition. I absolutely hate shaving my legs, as in they *maybe* get shaved once a year if that, so I thought this might be something to make my mom happy but not have to shave. Unfortunately, the only place on my body with the correct color hair is my lower legs (everywhere else I have red and blond hair). Additionally, the entire (large) end needs to be touching skin for it to work, but my legs are muscular enough that the only way to get it to touch enough skin was to also have my fingers against the end and be repetitively pulsed which is not recommended in the guide, though I've had no issues aside from the awkwardness. Also, this is totally on me since I should have read all the instructions before deciding to try it, but you actually have to shave before using it the first time since apparently hair will mess up the filter that protects the light, which for me seems to defeat the entire purpose of the product. I feel like I got conned into shaving, but on the positive side they do include a Venus Divine razor blade and a Venus razor handle, which was a nice bonus since I did not previously have two matching razors but tend to shave with both hands simultaneously to save time – much more comfortable with matching razors. I suppose only time will tell if it really works, but I haven't had any of the adverse effects listed in the manual yet, so it at least seems safe. For someone who doesn't mind shaving occasionally and who has more meaty legs or the right color armpit hairs, this might be a great solution to stop hair growth, but I think it needs a few tweaks. Once the light is burned out you have to buy a completely new unit. I'm not sure how long the 250,000 pulses it says the light will last will get me, but I could see this becoming a very expensive system over time for people using it consistently over larger body areas. On the other hand, it could save a LOT of time if you are a consistent shaver and are able to use this product effectively. I have gotten several laser hair removal treatments professionally done and this product definitely holds up to the competition for the cost. When you first open the box it is a little intimidating the instruction manual is long but if you give yourself a few minutes to read it over before plugging it in you will feel more comfortable to get started. I have now been using this for about 3 weeks and see a difference in almost every area I have used it. My bikini area has had little to no hair growth since the first use, my leg hair is growing back slower, thinner and a little patchy so it is really making a difference there. My armpits have had a slower growth with lighter hair. The only real place I haven't noticed much change is my face, I think the hairs I get there must be too light, this is also the only place that I noticed the zaps from the machine more of a quick static zig than anything else not anything painful or compared to the feeling you get from the professional machines. Ever since I heard about in home Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment, I have been dying to try it! Clinical studies have shown these systems can be a highly effective in reducing hair growth for extended periods of time. When my Gillette Venus Silk * Expert 3 came in the mail, I was almost beside myself with eagerness! The instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. You prepare the treatment area using your preferred hair removal method (I used the complimentary Gillette Venus razor – an added bonus item which came with the product). This allows the Silk-expert to correctly target the melatonin in the skin, thereby disabling the hair follicle (I learned that from the very informative instruction manual). Once your skin has been pre-treated, simply plug in the product, place the SensoAdapt automatic skin tone sensors to your skin, make sure the LED power bars light up on both sides and push the button! I started out using the Silk-expert everywhere it is recommended for use: legs, arms, underarms, bikini area and face, below the cheekbones. Thats right – I pretty much have hair EVERYWHERE! While I believe the amount of time it takes for the product to treat each area is reasonable, I found that shaving then treating everything all areas at once was too time consuming for my daily routine. I decided to target my least favorite shaving areas first instead. Once I have completed the 12 week treatment period for these areas, I will move on to other treatment areas until it’s all gone! While I would love to give the Silk-expert a 5 star review right now due to its informatively written instruction manual, it’s ease of use, and the fact that I can barely even feel it while it is working (It was NEVER painful for me), I haven’t seen any results just yet. The manual states that when used correctly, a reduction in hair growth should become noticeable around 6 weeks of use. I have only been using the Silk-expert for 5 weeks, so I’m not worried about it yet. If the product is as effective for me as it was in the clinical trials, it will be one of my favorite products ever. If it turns out not to work so well (results may vary from person to person), then I will be more than a little disappointed. I started using Lumi on the the first setting and gradually increased it into the third setting for the first 8 weeks. By the 8th week my leg hair was pretty much gone. The first setting is slightly faster than the third setting. I have now started using the fourth power setting and it is slightly slower but still really fast. I still can do like a full body treatment in under 30 minutes! As someone who used to have to shave everyday or every other day (since I live on an island), it is nice to now only have to shave every few weeks or even once a month. The more I use Lumi the slower my hair grows back and my hair has turned blonde. I always get compliments on how smooth my legs look. I used it on my face to get rid of some small facial hairs and after three treatments they didn't come back. Lumi even works on my bikini line. Super awesome and such a money saver. First, I would like to start with how simple it is to work with. Nothing complicated, very easy to remember, plus it has great instructions that come with the product. One of the biggest advantages is the speed with which you can cover larger areas, I can do my whole leg hip to toes for less than 10 min. I do that using my one of my favourite programs the pulsing one. I have done 8 sessions so I can not comment on any results. The only slightly negative aspect is that it get pretty hot. Not the laser impulse, but the machine itself. I like to take a pause when it feels too hot, just in case. Overall, I am quite happy and content. The design is light in the hand and pretty easy to manage in comparison to the bulkier heavier IP sets. You can always get up to 15% discount if you use a code from a youtube review. I have always wanted to try an IPL and after researching lots of different brands, I went for the Lumi IPL I was a little bit sceptical that it might not work. Wow I was surprised! The first 2 weeks I didn't see much improvement, but I persisted, continuing this on my legs, armpits and biking area. Week 4 I saw a difference. I can only IPL on one leg as I have a whole leg tattoo on the other so this was a great way to see the difference between the two. Although I didn't see much improvement on the armpits and bikini area. Week 8. Wow! My leg have hardly any hair growth, there are a few patches but I'm super pleased with this. Still continuing with using this twice a week on the armpits and bikini area – slight improvement. I did notice that these areas are taking longer to grow back and with less hairs. Week 12 – my leg is completely hair free..apart from the odd hair here and there! But I'm really really pleased with the results. Armpit and bikini area have still got a few weeks to go but eventhen I'm really pleased with the results so far, I think another 4 weeks of using twice a week should get rid of the stubborn hairs in these area! All in all, I highly recommend the Lumi IPL…. You really do need to be patience and persistent with this. I used this product with my wife. We have been using the SmoothSkin Pure Mini once a week for about 4 weeks now as the directions instructed. The manual says that you can do a full body treatment in as little as 10 minutes, but it took 10 to 15 minutes to do both full legs. The product has 2 settings, regular and sensitive, the difference is the brightness/strength of the light flash. There is an internal fan because the bright light does produce heat, it sounds like a quiet hair dryer. It is very easy to use, just put the window side flush against your skin and push the button (either regular or sensitive) and it will emit a bright flash against your skin. There is a sensor that detects if the window is completely flush against the skin and if it isn’t it will not flash. For areas where it is not flat skin (ex: knees) there is a magnetic attachment that fits over the window that makes the window area smaller allowing for the product to be flush against the skin and flash. There was no discomfort, redness or irritation when using the product. After about 10 minutes of use the flashes do get warmer and warmer which can cause discomfort, I just waited a minute or two for it to cool off a little and continued the treatment. We used the sensitive setting on the inside of the thighs and on the back of the knee area since these are more sensitive areas and the flashes on the regular setting were a little hot. My wife has light skin and light hair on her legs and the instructions say it works best on darker hair, so she was a little skeptical on whether this would work for her. It wasn’t until after her second treatment (week 2) that she noticed a change in the growth of hair on the treated area compared to the non-treated tattooed area. The hair was not growing back as quickly in the treated areas because it was shorter than the tattooed area hair. I noticed that some of the thicker hairs were not coming as thick and a little squirrely (not straight) which made me think the treatment was affecting the hair follicles. Firstly, I received this as my surprise Birthday present from my husband. He selected this product after a long research comparing multiple products of different brands. The product fits its description as stated. It can be used on most of the body parts with unique attachments. Initially I started using this at level 4 as per the skintone suggestion by the product but it was a bit painful. Later I have reduced the level to 2 and it worked wonders. I have started using this product on my legs and after 4 sessions I was able to see and feel the difference. The hair growth reduced by 65 – 70% and now I just do the regular touch-ups as per my schedule. For notifications of my schedule I use the Philips Lumea app which keeps track of each session and provides useful tips on how to use and store the product with images, videos and comments. Initially the cordless feature was draining the battery quickly, but after following the tips and videos in the app, I am now able to use the product with more ease and efficiency. I was particularly interested and excited to try this product as shaving my legs has become such a chore that needs to be kept ontop of every other day to ensure they're remain smooth. This device has 3 attachments for different body areas you require hair removal, one for your body/legs, one for your face and one for your under arms and bikini area. The packaging itself felt enticing in a large pink box with a bag provided to keep all your attachments together and charger. The first initial charge seemed to be completed very quickly. I read through the instructions a couple of times to fully understand the process of it, it felt quite confusing at first but I did the patch test as recommended. A day or so later I then re-read the instructions again when doing my first full application. Using the device itself isn't particularly noisy and it leaves a slight tingly sensation on your skin whilst emitting the light. It's recommended you leave the device on charge whilst undergoing the laser treatment (which can prove awkward trying to reach the backs of your legs) I did forget to do this once and sure enough it ran out of charge but overall I'm fairly happy with the battery life of the device. My first attempt I think was slightly rushed and I wasn't covering the surface area accurately enough but after researching further online I realised how close together the flashes really ought to be. I downloaded the app available to use to help keep you reminded when the next treatment is due and found this particularly useful. As a South Asian female, I have thick black hair. Which grows at a very quick speed (would have to shave everyday). However since using the machine there has been a change in the amount of hair, the thickness and the colour (more lighter). The hair grows back in patches so the machine does the job, however it does not do it in the time scale suggested. I've been using the lumea for roughly a year or so and only now have I noticed a difference. I would suggest being very persistent and patient. I would recommend the product. Additionally, the attachment for the under arms and bikini isn't very good, very difficult to lazer those parts of the body. You will require assistance to do those areas, even then the machine does not register the areas. I would hope that Philips come out with a more flexible attachment, as the machine does not register the under arm area or bikini. In terms of pain, I would say the machine is not painless as they suggest, there is some mild discomfort when using it, but the more you use the machine the easier it will be for you. Something very different and stand-out-ish about this laser hair removal device and others is the shape and the way you hold it. I think some people might prefer the more rectangular shaped devices, but I find this gun-shaped tool to me a lot more easy to hold and use especially for larger areas of skin. The product is well made and if used correctly and timely, will minimize the appearance of unwanted hair or get rid of unwanted hair completely.
I'm really loving this device! Easy to use and effective. I am using it for my legs it for 6 weeks and it worked! my legs are showing a definite reduction in hair growth, as well as an overall slow down in hair re-growth! now I will focus on using it on my underarms more consistently and hope to find the same kind of results there!
