I know some bicycling friends who have spent a ridiculous amount of money of fancy boutique brand bike racks. I bought this rack after reading many positive reviews. I have nothing but good things to say about it. It locks to my receiver and is rock solid. Something that I couldn't say about the more expensive rack it replaced. It's well-made and looks good. Good quality 4 bike carrier. No worries hauling 2 adult & 2 child bikes. 4 adult mountain bikes might weigh too much, but specs say carrier could handle it. The quick release clips are junk & broke on 1st use requiring me to wrap the clip with packing tape to keep it together and not fall out before replacing it with a more solid clip. Carrier is also loose inside hitch and needs a washer or small piece of folded metal inserted between materials to somewhat keep it from rattling around. Purchased our matt black Kuat NV Base 2.0 bike rack to transport our two Gazelle Ultimate T10 HHMB eBikes. The bikes weigh 51 pounds each so we were looking for a rack that would easily support that weight. After doing our research, talking to several bike store owners and reading reviews, it was quite clear the Kuat rack was the right choice. Additional factors that influenced our choice, the integrated cable lock – hitch lock system and the Kuat bike ramp accessory. My wife and I are in our 60's and the bike ramp makes rolling the 51 lb. bikes into the rack quite easy rather than lifting them up and into the rack. Installation was very easy, taking about 15 minutes to assemble. Instructions are very clear and all of the tools you need are provided with the rack. Our rack is attached to a Nissan Frontier pickup truck with a factory installed 2" trailer hitch. The truck tailgate can be folded down completely when the rack is down and no bikes in the carriers and the rack can be folded out of the way with a simple lever. Just received, assembled, and installed it, but can already tell how well built it is. With the exception of the rear wheel strap ratchets, which feel a little flimsy, everything else is super solid. I've read some negative comments that it is hard to assemble, but that was not my experience. I got it together on my own in about 20 minutes or so, and that included unpacking and then breaking down the box for recycling after. It's literally just 5 bolts required to put it together. Yes it would be easier to assemble with two people, but if you can't do it by yourself, you'd have no chance with a piece of furniture from IKEA! Literally, just read the instructions (or use common sense) to figure out that putting it together upside down is easier. And no, all of the parts will not lie flat even when it is upside down, but a few rolled up towels, or riding shoes, or whatever else you have lying around the garage strategically placed under the base and rails will line everything up without a second pair of hands. Oh, and note that the adapters for fat tire bikes and small wheels are included in the box, so there is no need to contact Kuat for them after purchase. This is a seriously solid and nice rack. Incredible build quality. You are definitely getting what you pay for. Hold bikes solid. Every part and piece during install feels premium. The only difference between this and the normal NV (not base model) is that one you can get in orange or silver, and has a built in work stand you can use when the rack is up. But you can buy that separately and add it to this rack as well for nearly the same as the price difference between that model and this base one. The black on black looks great. We were a bit apprehensive at first, not necessarily with the bike trailer, but more or less with the 1.25 hitch that we had to opt for as the dealership misinformed us on the size of hitch compatible with outback.I am happy to report we have had no problems with the sturdiness of this bike trailer as we were afraid the 1.25 would result in a wobbly outcome. As other reviews mentioned the trailer itself was a bit difficult to assemble. However once assembled and loaded it was exactly what we needed. We are comfortably and securely able to load our 2 Trek bikes and have no problem with the arms or straps. The only complaint is the thickness of the pin used to lock the trailer to the hitch. Could use a better pin something a bit thicker and sturdier for it to feel very secure.JAAM
First off, I'll mention that assembly was a bit harder than I thought it would be. The long bolts connecting the two pieces of frame together took a bit of finesse (and a rubber mallet) to get them to slide in and line up properly. It helps if you take the part of the frame where they screw in (on the outer rail) off first and line that up separately. Once I figured that out, the rest was a breeze. I really like the ease of use with this thing – bikes go on and off in just minutes. Way easier than it used to be trying to squeeze them into my car. I also enjoy how light it is, and how quickly it comes on and off the hitch. Although the price is a bit high, it is well-made and worth it. Highly recommend.Nate
There are things I like about this rack, but I think it's quite overpriced for what it is. I found it easy to attach to the hitch and I like the overall design – the arms feel secure, I like being able to fold the rack easily, and it does hold my bike well. I was also able to use the farthest rack position as a makeshift bike stand while I did some work on the chain, which was handy since I don't have my own stand. However, for this price point, I expect more than to have to use my own cheap Velcro strap to secure a mountain bike with average/slightly wide tires. I'm not using some kind of niche fat or cargo bike here – why doesn't the Kuat come with an integrated, high-quality strap for this purpose or better yet, a design that doesn't require that extra step at all? I also find the ratchet strap for securing the rear tire to be poorly placed. You can't get the bike on the rack without crunching the strap down and having to yank it out from under the tire manually, which is definitely increasing wear and tear already. Finally, the lock that comes with the rack for securing the rack to the hitch felt very cheap and online reviews suggest it can be broken very easily (a problem when you live in a high-theft area, which is not Kuat's fault), but it did lead to an extra cost to buy a more secure lock. Long story short, I'm glad I have the rack and it gets the job done, but it's premium pricing for an average/good product. I can't give a 4 or 5 star review when the value is skewed like that. This rack is very sturdy and well built. I have this on my Durango and still have room to park it in the garage while attached. This does not work with full suspension bikes without the additional Yakima toptube bar accessory. You need one for each bike that doesn't have a traditional flat top tube. There aren't any racks of this design that will accommodate suspension bikes to my knowledge. Anyways, I have it a 5 star only because they didn't include the toptube accessory other than that I'm pleased with purchase.abelnaz
I shopped around for a hitch bike rack for a number of months before purchasing. My mom had gotten the Yakima Swing Daddy last year and loved it so I decided to go with the Yakima FullTilt. I've had this rack for a few months now, and it has worked extremely well. The longest trip I've taken it on was about 200 miles and it held up well with bikes. Having fenders is no problem, Just drop the arm just in front of the Fender. My E-Bike is 55 lbs & this rack has no problem supporting the weight. Loading my bike is very fast & easy.The front cradle holds the front tire securely & the rear tire sits in a shallow channel. Kuat does offer a ramp witch would make this process even easier. The integrated cable locks are a good way to lock your bike during transport. The Rack over all fills heavy duty & solidly built. Cosmetically it’s very beautifully painted too. Cons, The key hole to the Cable locks has a little spring loaded cover in the hole. So you have to put the key in at a angle to push it out of the way. It took me a Minet to figure that out.Mike
Ok, I love my biking and hate my bike racks. To say that most are put together with string and bailing wire is an understatement. I had one brand that was so top heavy that I honestly thought I would lose my bikes along the highway somewhere. That is until I bought the Kuat from REI. Expensive!!!! I bought the NV and then the doubler so I could have 4 bikes at once. I have been beyond impressed with this rack. Solid, stable, easy to use and very secure. Every part of this rack has been thought out and engineered to perfection. I know this sounds kind of over the top for a review but as a dentist, I look for details and precision in everything. Trek Farley 5.0 (large frame) with 27.5 x 4.5 tires (Bontrager Gnarwhal Fat Bike Tire). Kuat phat bike kit installed. Cradles in lowest position. The ratchet arm will not come over the top of the tire without leaning the bike, swinging the arm up, then centering the bike/tire under the arm. Attached is the video Kuat sent me. This metjod is fine for one bike, but with 2+ bikes that need to be leaned, the other bikes get in the way. Kuat support says "Unfortunately at this time we do not have a solution". I recently purchased the Apex 3 bike rack for my truck. It's solid and well built and fairly easy to put together. I did have to also purchase 2 bar extenders because of the two ladies bikes I have for my girls. The arms and clamps that hold the bikes securely in place won't work with the female bikes center bar going from the seat to the handle bars without the extenders. They were $25 each. The bikes fit tight on the rack and you have to figure out the best way to get them on correctly. There in not much wiggle room, but that's also good to keep them in place. The only real disappointment I have is my truck tailgate doesn't come all the way down when you tilt the bike rack backward. In their advertisement picture the tailgate is open all the way. I ordered this one online, directly from Discount Ramps, after returning a flimsy 2-bike rack to Home Depot. This rack will carry three bikes very securely, and has very sturdy construction with a full 2" frame to fit perfectly into a 2" hitch receiver. The movable clamps will hold any bike at any position on the frame, and wheel straps are also provided if you want to be super-secure. I would buy this rack again with no hesitation, and recommend it highly.Robert
The rack arrived when promised. The box was in another box, so everything was protected. One tube was bent to the point of preventing assembly of the left, distal tire support. I used one of the smaller tubes to straighten it and completed assembly. The velcro straps for securing the tires were missing. I found ones at Home Depot that are orange with reflective stitching and sewn-in clips. They can stay attached to the rack and secure the tires when loaded. I also added reflectors to the third bike position and the underside center support to increase nighttime visibility of the rack whether it is down or folded up. The materials and overall construction are good. It is solidly built, but light enough for one person to handle. It is easy to position the bikes. They feel well secured to the rack. With the optional straightening device, all play between the rack and receiver (which is inherent in all hitch/receiver systems) is eliminated.Dennis D.

This is a great two bike rack that I had about a year or two ago on my old car. It worked perfect on it! I got a new car last year and just got this rack again for it and it says that it’s compatible with my new car. I used it a couple of times and just now noticed that the bottom part of the rack had dented the trunk and left nasty scratches that now I’ll have to pay for since their customer service is garbage. Don’t put a vehicle on the list that isn’t full compatible… if you get this rack I recommend putting some extra padding on the bottom part of the rack or it could possibly damage your vehicle. It says it holds 70 lbs of bikes. The two bikes I use with it are way less than 70 pounds and the way the trunk is shaped causes it to push in and the metal ends up scraping the trunk. It should be one long foam padding on the bottom instead of one piece of foam on each side.Hunter
This rack might be able to hold two childrens bikes, but definitely not two adult bikes without serious problems. I would imagine the rubbing and bumping together just to get them on the rack would damage the finish…not to mention traveling with them. Theres just simply not enough space between the brackets. Its also the dickens to attach to our Equinox, even though it specifically states that it fits this car. I wouldnt want to carry more than one bike on it, and you need an additional bar (sold separately) to carry a womens bike. We returned it!Beverly

Unless it's a classic men's ten speed style frame, the closest bike in will rub on the pivot mechanism. First two bikes I tried would have been horribly scratched up first use. Not listed on the box, but at the end of the manual, is there is nothing to support the bottom and keep it from swinging. They tell you to use a strap, which could be done effectively, but don't include one. The anti-wobble feature is more wishful thinking than real help. I absolutely love this bike rack. Its great to just leave on your hitch and not have to deal with the constant putting it on and taking it off. One pin allows you to pull the rack back and open your teunk in seconds. I’ve been carrying 3 bikes on it for two years and no sign of deterioriating. Light rust that i could easily sand and spray paint. I had one of the pins break off, bit thats likely my fault for not leaving it installed. The ONE issue I have with the rack is that it only has one bolt for install and it moves just a smidge andcmakes a noise whenever your driving ove bumps and such. Make a new version with TWO bolts and tje bike rack is perfectly sound:)ChitownChef
I bought this in July 2020 and was hoping for something economical and sturdy. I definitely got what I wanted. The rack is only rated at 100 pounds, but I was able to fit three adult bikes with no problems. There are alot of comments here about the hitch being wobbly, but mine is sturdy with minimal movement. Tighten the bolts folks! I thoroughly inspected the rack after our trips and found no crack in the welds or bending of any parts. Someone else mentioned that the rack had no straps, but the rack I purchased had all three straps that had plenty of length to secure the adult bikes. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend it for the price alone.dpat3537

the size of 1 1/4 inch connector to hitch is OFF BY 4.5mm!!! it is like having the wrench on 1 1/4 inch off by 2mm on one side. the rack with 2 bikes is going left -right , up and down when hitting any bump or brake, therefore, the bolts that tightened the hitch to the car may be wripped off by constant movement of rack like a spring… the quality of metal is ok but bolts are made from cheap steel and also do not seem to be reliable for such heavy steel rack…sturdy metal for construction of rack -that is the only good thing about this product.alex
Great product! Heavy duty, solid construction. Easy assembly. Stable with no wobble or vibration. Reviewers who report vibration and wobble apparently bought the regular version. Pay the extra bucks for the Premier Locking version. It has a simple mechanism to tighten the rack once its slipped into the hitch. You simply turn a knob attached to a threaded rod that pulls a beveled block towards the back of the rack, snugging the shaft inside the hitch. Turn the key and the knob locks so the hitch can't be removed. Without the locking mechanism, the hitch will vibrate and wobble. I wish I could have seen a chart of what vehicles this item was best suited to. The chart is on the back of the box, and it indicates that Nissan's Rogue Sport is NOT one of the recommended applications. Therefore I have found it rather challenging to securely install it on my vehicle, but I think I have found a way. As far as the product itself, the construction and material qualities are EXCELLENT. I purchased this bike rack this morning to take my bike 60 miles to go on a ride with a friend. The rack was easy to install and worked like a charm. When I got home I started reading reviews on it and couldn't believe the issues I was reading. I had no problems with the hooks or with the feet lifting off while driving. I drove across the Chesapeake bay bridge, down highways at 65+ mph and across multiple speed bumps and down a section of highway that was being repaved so there were some good bumps at highway speed. Now I have only used the rack with 1 bike (hence the 4 stars rather than 5) and have only used it for 1 trip. But, so far so good. My only complaint is that I purchased it in store at Walmart and paid $60, and it wouldn't let me buy online and pickup in store the same day even though there was 3 sitting on the shelf in front of me (but that's a Walmart complaint, not a product compliant)Coco
Beware! I purchased this product based on the picture on Walmart.com of the product. When we brought it home, we took it out of the packaging and quickly looked it over. Unfortunately, we threw away the box and several days later, we went to mount this on the vehicle. It did not have the 2 side straps and was completely unstable and unusable. I wrote to the company to see if I could get the missing straps. I was told to send a receipt and picture of manufacture date. It turns out that it was made in 2015. I bought this in August 2020. The company told me that the side straps were not on there in 2015 and that was it. I now have an unusable product. If you buy this, make sure it has the side straps as pictured before you throw away the box. Just used it for the first time yesterday and it was exactly what I was looking for. One thing that drove me away from 5 stars was two days after the purchase Thule had it $50.00 cheaper online for a Memorial Day special. I called and asked if they would honor it, I got a no from customer service and they said maybe a bike store will honor it and you can buy it from them and send back the one you are receiving which was very unfortunate. I finally got to use my Thule insta Gator bike rack and it worked like a dream. I have Chevy Colorado and had to secure the rear wheel in the bike rack with the front wheel turned to the side. Had no problem with bike fitting in the truck bed. I will put a strap across the bike frame next putting just for extra stability.Tone

This rack is heavy duty, in weight also. It does hold my 2 bikes securely and performed well on 2 recent road trips of 30 miles. The rack held tight and the bikes never moved. Padded bar hooks did not harm the paint. Easy to adjust and it folds towards the vehicle when empty if desired. Nice locking ring to run cable to hitch for security as well as the treaded bolt (pin) which prevents unwanted movement of rack. One thing though, the video describing this rack shows that the side bars that hold the bikes are able to pivot making for compact storage. I received my rack with permanent bolts so the arms will not pivot. I asked Bell about this and they did get back with me and explained the video and pictures are of a prototype model and not the final production model which they decided to go with for added strength. It is strong and the arms don't flop around but it does make for a storage issue unless you make a wall rack to store as I did. Overall I am happy with it and it performs well so far. The price was under half of Yakima and Thule brands but I'm sure theirs are lighter and probably aluminum. I would recommend this rack, just don't drop it on your foot.ReCycler
I usually carry just one bike, but have grandchildren with bikes that can be added by purchasing a 3 bike carrier. An additional advantage of the 3 bike carrier is that it is stronger and has more durability. Once assembled it is relatively simple to install on the vehicle and the bikes are very easy to load and are quite secure once loaded. It is important to look closely at the pictures in the instructions because you could use the wrong bolt or install a part backwards. Also, the parts bag was missing a couple of washers but I had extras in my workbench so it was easy to fix the omission. All in all, a very good piece of equipment for the price.Winecountry
For the quality and price, I am very happy that Academy Sports had this Bell product for non-standard frame (0/0) bikes. This Bell model eliminates the need to buy a horizontal bar attachment for standard bike frames (0–0). Clear setup instructions and easy to put together. Another nice feature is the adjustable (three-position) hinge pin to allow for vehicle lift-gate access, bike mounting, and easy fold-up stow-a-way lock feature when bikes are removed, but you don't want to completely remove the bike rack from the vehicle. Impressively, the integrated velcro tire straps, vertical & adjustable bike post locking straps, and a separate red tie locking strap (enough to secure three mounted bikes) did an excellent job to secure the bikes with no rattling or noticeable drag at 70+ mph. I own 3 classic version and had to swap out a classic for a mountain bike version. My daughter has a Trek Roscoe which has 2.8 tires and they fit nicely to the rack. The stabilizer that comes with it is larger and not the same as the classic as mentioned in another review. The early models may have had the smaller stabilizers but the one I purchased. I REALLY like the fact they swing close to the walls which helps with storage. You have to use the side of the stabilizer to do this.Rye
I was looking for a couple garage racks for our e-bikes that would work in our double garage. Space was tight and the e-bikes weigh about 25kgs each so we needed a rack that was space saving yet didn't require lifting each bike. After a lot of research on e-bike forums, I pulled the trigger on a couple SteadyRacks (the fender compatible versions). I mounted them on either side of the garage, about a meter inside and away from the garage door, roughly in line with the back of our vehicles so we had enough space to load each bike onto it's rack and swing them against the wall. Swinging each e-bike up onto it's rear wheel so you can walk and guide it into the rack takes a bit of practice but it's easily mastered. Now when we come back from a ride, we open the garage door, rotate the rack so it faces out 45 degrees from the wall, swing the e-bike up onto its rear wheel, roll it onto the rack, and then swing the e-bike and rack against the wall so it's out of the way. This is a solid heavy duty rack. I have 2 step through e-bikes that fit very well. I had to also get cross bars since my frames are step through. I can mount the rack and load the bikes in well under 5 minutes. You need to be able to lift and handle 50lbs to load e-bikes on the rack. There are no locks on this rack. I also purchased a receiver pin lock and a cable pad lock to secure the bikes. All in, I still spent a lot less than some of the high end racks with locks.Ken
Rated for 200lbs, tire mounts BENT holding a single 60lb bike on one 120mile drive from Phoenix to Tucson. Cheap foam coating on frame support ground through entirely and DESTROYED my brand new $2000 bike frame before i even got to ride it. Please please dont buy this product. Its really unstable, 100% not safe for anywhere near what its rated and could destroy your bike like it did mine. The tire mounts are IMPOSSIBLE to tighten safely. They will tip and bend and move. Photos show destruction of the rack. The bike frame is being repaired by a welder to fill the gouge in the frame. Ordered this rack for a bike trip with friends. Sadly i cannot comment of the rack itself. The package delivered to my porch and looked as if it had been shoved out of an airplane from 10,000 feet. The mangled package had a strong pungent Moldy odor coming from it. We tore the soft spongy cardboard open on the end to peer inside. The inside of the box had spots of black nasty goo on it and the bike rack itself was covered with patches of rust. I find it hard to believe that someone at the warehouse actually sent this package out. They must have known this stinky mangled rusty package would be immediately returned. I bought this almost a year ago and put it on the back of my truck camper for a year long road trip. We attached it to a bomb proof hitch extension on a Ford F-350, and I bought this rack specifically because it has very few moving parts that can break and is rated for the bouncing that you’ll get on the back of an SUV. We carried 4 bikes on it for the year and from the outset I disliked the rack. Getting four bikes on their is a bit of a spatial puzzle and I ended up having to buy two of Yakima’s accessory bars (not cheap) to make the smaller bikes fit. Over the year the bikes have taken a lot of wear and tear just from rubbing on one another. The rack’s arms have also gradually sagged and bent over the year and are definitely no longer horizontal. I’ve been a bit concerned that the arms would completely collapse downward but it hasn’t happened. Finally there’s the inconvenience that’s natural with this type of rack – invariably the bike you need off is the one that’s furthest in… yup time to take them all off for one bike. Was it inexpensive? Yes. Did it survive the year? Barely. Would I purchase again? Nope.JBREM

I bought this to replace a Thule 908 EuroClassic which I've owned for 12 years. The reason I upgraded was because of the Easyfold's portability and ease of storage. The old carrier is still working perfectly and I don't expect the Easyfold to be any different. Apart from portability and storage, the other advantage is the ratchet style wheel straps which make securing your bikes even easier. The one downside (and one of the reasons it's easier to store) is that the the upright which carries the clamps is slightly smaller, so you have to think carefully about how you present the bikes. Not a huge problem but worth some consideration. Overall, very pleased with a quality product. Delivered on time. Halford's, at the time of purchase, were offering the carrier at the lowest price that I could find on the net.Threlkeld
I bought this bike rack three weeks ago based on how easy it looked to mount on the car. I am usually quite sceptical about manufacturers' videos, but in this case it was spot on. The rack is compact to store, easy to carry and is securely on the car in less than a minute. Getting the bikes on is just as easy and they are very securely held in place. The tilt function to allow access to the boot is really useful making this one of my best purchases for a long time! There is also no need to actually fix the number plate onto the light board as it is held in place with clips making it easy to change if someone wants to borrow it (and they will!) Very clever but don't be fooled by all the features in the video. Neither the loading ramp or storage bag is included in the not insignificant purchase price. Also bear in mind that although it states 7 pin electrical connection it is actually a 13 pin connector that only uses 7 pins so if you have an older style 7 pin connector on your vehicle you will need an adaptor. Other than that it is very good. The clamp that fixes it to the tow ball is lockable as are the three clamps that hold the bikes in place, all with a common key. The tilt function is very handy so that you can still access the boot when the carrier is in place. It all fitted easily to our 2008 Ford C-Max, it's just a shame that the storage bag and ramp isn't included. Halfords didn't even sell the bag at the time of our purchase.MrC299

I have a Trek hybrid bike that I use for commuting to and from the store. I purchased a Wald folding rear folding bike basket from Amazon that I wanted to use with this rack. When i received the rack, the instructions were so difficult to understand that I had to seek the assistance of a fellow bike commuting enthusiast to help me assemble the rack and install it on my bike. The assembly and installation of this rack left much to be desired. My bike does not have eyelets on the frame or near the wheel hub, so my friend had to fashion two makeshift "eyelets" out of some washers and other screws that he already had. He also did not use the screws that were included with the rack, because they would not fit. Overall, although I was able to get this rack assembled and installed with help, I would not purchase it again, nor would I recommend it to someone else. Save a few extra bucks and buy a true universal bike rack. Oh, my folding bike basket did fit on the rack. I use this rack every time I use my bike (at least once weekly), and it works well. Universal rack means install may/may not go smoothly. purchased this inexpensive rack for a friend's 700CX38 rei novara corsa ladies bike. she wanted to support a tote with farmer's mkt veg so supporting that tote weight steel rack was a must in my opin. rack is a steal at the price. photos i took show i had to use the rear fender mount hole with the parts included. i did try using the rack stays and there was an issue. did end up using some #8 machine screws/nuts. walmart sells a machine screw assortment and that should handle any issue that emerges. note i did end up turning the 45 degree angle attachment upside down if you will. it worked better. but, that's why this call this a universal rack. note i do have a bicycle work stand, good selection of tools, lighting, and patience. this is not a rush job. had to bend the bracket 25 degrees with my vise to perfect fit on fender attachment hole. see photo. if you are unsure of your bike mechanic skills enlist a friend. 4 hands are helpful and another set of eyes to perhaps see a more opportune method of attachment. do not tighten screws/nuts/nylon lock nuts (provided) until all adjustments made and you are pleased. also, drag out a level and be certain your new rack is level. all in all, walmart's vendor offers a great product with this rack at a rock bottom price. summing up: i'm 71 and had a good time making a friend's bike more utility friendly. project was fun.tony
