I know some bicycling friends who have spent a ridiculous amount of money of fancy boutique brand bike racks. I bought this rack after reading many positive reviews. I have nothing but good things to say about it. It locks to my receiver and is rock solid. Something that I couldn't say about the more expensive rack it replaced. It's well-made and looks good. Good quality 4 bike carrier. No worries hauling 2 adult & 2 child bikes. 4 adult mountain bikes might weigh too much, but specs say carrier could handle it. The quick release clips are junk & broke on 1st use requiring me to wrap the clip with packing tape to keep it together and not fall out before replacing it with a more solid clip. Carrier is also loose inside hitch and needs a washer or small piece of folded metal inserted between materials to somewhat keep it from rattling around. Hitch pin hole should be bigger to accommodate a better lock.darksidetees

This rack is very sturdy and well built. I have this on my Durango and still have room to park it in the garage while attached. This does not work with full suspension bikes without the additional Yakima toptube bar accessory. You need one for each bike that doesn't have a traditional flat top tube. There aren't any racks of this design that will accommodate suspension bikes to my knowledge. Anyways, I have it a 5 star only because they didn't include the toptube accessory other than that I'm pleased with purchase.abelnaz
I shopped around for a hitch bike rack for a number of months before purchasing. My mom had gotten the Yakima Swing Daddy last year and loved it so I decided to go with the Yakima FullTilt. I've had this rack for a few months now, and it has worked extremely well. The longest trip I've taken it on was about 200 miles and it held up well with bikes. Purchased our matt black Kuat NV Base 2.0 bike rack to transport our two Gazelle Ultimate T10 HHMB eBikes. The bikes weigh 51 pounds each so we were looking for a rack that would easily support that weight. After doing our research, talking to several bike store owners and reading reviews, it was quite clear the Kuat rack was the right choice. Additional factors that influenced our choice, the integrated cable lock – hitch lock system and the Kuat bike ramp accessory. My wife and I are in our 60's and the bike ramp makes rolling the 51 lb. bikes into the rack quite easy rather than lifting them up and into the rack. Installation was very easy, taking about 15 minutes to assemble. Instructions are very clear and all of the tools you need are provided with the rack. Our rack is attached to a Nissan Frontier pickup truck with a factory installed 2" trailer hitch. The truck tailgate can be folded down completely when the rack is down and no bikes in the carriers and the rack can be folded out of the way with a simple lever. Just received, assembled, and installed it, but can already tell how well built it is. With the exception of the rear wheel strap ratchets, which feel a little flimsy, everything else is super solid. I've read some negative comments that it is hard to assemble, but that was not my experience. I got it together on my own in about 20 minutes or so, and that included unpacking and then breaking down the box for recycling after. It's literally just 5 bolts required to put it together. Yes it would be easier to assemble with two people, but if you can't do it by yourself, you'd have no chance with a piece of furniture from IKEA! Literally, just read the instructions (or use common sense) to figure out that putting it together upside down is easier. And no, all of the parts will not lie flat even when it is upside down, but a few rolled up towels, or riding shoes, or whatever else you have lying around the garage strategically placed under the base and rails will line everything up without a second pair of hands. Oh, and note that the adapters for fat tire bikes and small wheels are included in the box, so there is no need to contact Kuat for them after purchase. This is a seriously solid and nice rack. Incredible build quality. You are definitely getting what you pay for. Hold bikes solid. Every part and piece during install feels premium. The only difference between this and the normal NV (not base model) is that one you can get in orange or silver, and has a built in work stand you can use when the rack is up. But you can buy that separately and add it to this rack as well for nearly the same as the price difference between that model and this base one. The black on black looks great. This is a heavy duty bike rack that is easy to use. The velcro straps are very strong, you don't have to worry about them coming loose. Both mens and womens bikes can fit on this rack. Depending on the size of the womens bike, we've found you can simply flip the bike upside down and it works great (I notice other reviews said it can't fit a womens bike but we've had no problems getting womens/girls bikes on the rack – I'm a women with a womens bike). I also like that it compacts down for easy storage.SKA
Whether you have to put a bike on upside up or upside down on it, it is fine. It's strong sturdy, easy to put together. You can pretty much figure it out without directions and there are directions. My complaint with mine was that it had a pin for the upper bar and the lower par but not a nut or pin for the hitch. I tightened a radiator metal screw tightener (I didn't have a spare correct sized nut to tighten it) around it and took an extra metal key chain circle and fastened that through the available hole that seemed ready for a 3rd pin which was not included with my package. That works great. Maybe they forgot to add a 3rd pin in my box but couldn't tell from the directions. It's still a great product, great price, and simple to use.MrMacGoohan
The only thing making this a four versus a five is that the hitch itself is a little sloppy. It does not fit into the 2-in receiver snugly and therefore wobbles about a bit. The joint s are very firm the unit comes with pins that you can pop in and out. It's a very functional unit and sturdy I have no worries about its strength. Just think it could have been manufactured to a tighter tolerance level all around. The next step of judging this for quality will be in about a year when we see if the metal holds up or if it starts to rust all over. I have definite questions about the pins that were provided although they can be replaced. They look like they are still with a very thin chrome plating. In my experience that won't last very long with before potting and then rusting. Even so $5 worth of parts and maybe a coat of paint should keep this unit functional for many many years.mike$teadman

This is practically a 5* item. It fits my 21 Civic Sport Hatchback well and I didn't need to use the spoiler kit since the spoiler has a gap between the window. As installed, the rear wiper works just fine. I thought I was going to have to use the angled rubber bumpers but that was not the case. The flat ones are fine. THIS is where I take a star off. In the step to tighten the cables, it says to crank until you hear 2 clicks. I cannot get to 2 clicks because it pushes so hard on the glass OR the body of the hatch that it literally started to push the glass in away from the seal or create an indentation on the body. So, I settled for to "creaks" of the tightening apparatus. Weird to say but I can confirm it's tight, stable, and is OK. The flexibility to mount the bike(s), move the arms, fit the car, the locking cable (which I didn't even realize was part of it when I purchased), all good stuff. I'm looking forward to many uses of this rack going forward.Peter
Without a hitch mount, I chose this so that it could stay mounted on our hatch and still be able to raise it (something that could not be done with Raceway model). Once mounted, it's sturdy and should work well (I just installed it). My only complaint is with the stabilizer blocks. Thule should include a short block so that the bike can be secured while hanging vertically and not out at an angle. On our SUV the bike hangs close to the rack.alex19
Compact, solid and hold firmly the bike as intended. Do feel the clearance between bike for a two way carrier is tight even if you have spacers between provided. The cable torque that holds the carriage for some reason does not completely lock in place as recommended with a click sound. Instructions as everyone mentioned is completely not helpful at all. You either go through YouTube for a guide and the added harness for the spoiler support is nowhere to figure how it is placed. Also, the packaging of the items with all the moving parts is not well thought off. The boxes inside don't really make any sense to secure the items inside. By the time you receive the big box its either broken or you can hear the parts banging to each other. Thule should have placed this on a rigid foam instead of boxes. Or either put dampers of foam inside so that the parts will be secured in shipping and moving. They cut down on packaging cheaply and price products very expensively steep. Way too steep as if they hold the bars in terms of carriage in the market. Hope this makes sense for the company to make better consumer experience not just for the money.JyCruizer

Having fenders is no problem, Just drop the arm just in front of the Fender. My E-Bike is 55 lbs & this rack has no problem supporting the weight. Loading my bike is very fast & easy.The front cradle holds the front tire securely & the rear tire sits in a shallow channel. Kuat does offer a ramp witch would make this process even easier. The integrated cable locks are a good way to lock your bike during transport. The Rack over all fills heavy duty & solidly built. Cosmetically it’s very beautifully painted too. Cons, The key hole to the Cable locks has a little spring loaded cover in the hole. So you have to put the key in at a angle to push it out of the way. It took me a Minet to figure that out.Mike
Ok, I love my biking and hate my bike racks. To say that most are put together with string and bailing wire is an understatement. I had one brand that was so top heavy that I honestly thought I would lose my bikes along the highway somewhere. That is until I bought the Kuat from REI. Expensive!!!! I bought the NV and then the doubler so I could have 4 bikes at once. I have been beyond impressed with this rack. Solid, stable, easy to use and very secure. Every part of this rack has been thought out and engineered to perfection. I know this sounds kind of over the top for a review but as a dentist, I look for details and precision in everything. Trek Farley 5.0 (large frame) with 27.5 x 4.5 tires (Bontrager Gnarwhal Fat Bike Tire). Kuat phat bike kit installed. Cradles in lowest position. The ratchet arm will not come over the top of the tire without leaning the bike, swinging the arm up, then centering the bike/tire under the arm. Attached is the video Kuat sent me. This metjod is fine for one bike, but with 2+ bikes that need to be leaned, the other bikes get in the way. Kuat support says "Unfortunately at this time we do not have a solution". I recently purchased the Apex 3 bike rack for my truck. It's solid and well built and fairly easy to put together. I did have to also purchase 2 bar extenders because of the two ladies bikes I have for my girls. The arms and clamps that hold the bikes securely in place won't work with the female bikes center bar going from the seat to the handle bars without the extenders. They were $25 each. The bikes fit tight on the rack and you have to figure out the best way to get them on correctly. There in not much wiggle room, but that's also good to keep them in place. The only real disappointment I have is my truck tailgate doesn't come all the way down when you tilt the bike rack backward. In their advertisement picture the tailgate is open all the way. I ordered this one online, directly from Discount Ramps, after returning a flimsy 2-bike rack to Home Depot. This rack will carry three bikes very securely, and has very sturdy construction with a full 2" frame to fit perfectly into a 2" hitch receiver. The movable clamps will hold any bike at any position on the frame, and wheel straps are also provided if you want to be super-secure. I would buy this rack again with no hesitation, and recommend it highly.Robert
The rack arrived when promised. The box was in another box, so everything was protected. One tube was bent to the point of preventing assembly of the left, distal tire support. I used one of the smaller tubes to straighten it and completed assembly. The velcro straps for securing the tires were missing. I found ones at Home Depot that are orange with reflective stitching and sewn-in clips. They can stay attached to the rack and secure the tires when loaded. I also added reflectors to the third bike position and the underside center support to increase nighttime visibility of the rack whether it is down or folded up. The materials and overall construction are good. It is solidly built, but light enough for one person to handle. It is easy to position the bikes. They feel well secured to the rack. With the optional straightening device, all play between the rack and receiver (which is inherent in all hitch/receiver systems) is eliminated.Dennis D.

Unless it's a classic men's ten speed style frame, the closest bike in will rub on the pivot mechanism. First two bikes I tried would have been horribly scratched up first use. Not listed on the box, but at the end of the manual, is there is nothing to support the bottom and keep it from swinging. They tell you to use a strap, which could be done effectively, but don't include one. The anti-wobble feature is more wishful thinking than real help. If you used it for two bikes it would be decent, but you didn't buy a two bike carrier. Disappointing as this is a very well built unit with a great powder coat paint job.John
I absolutely love this bike rack. Its great to just leave on your hitch and not have to deal with the constant putting it on and taking it off. One pin allows you to pull the rack back and open your teunk in seconds. I’ve been carrying 3 bikes on it for two years and no sign of deterioriating. Light rust that i could easily sand and spray paint. I had one of the pins break off, bit thats likely my fault for not leaving it installed. The ONE issue I have with the rack is that it only has one bolt for install and it moves just a smidge andcmakes a noise whenever your driving ove bumps and such. I bought this in July 2020 and was hoping for something economical and sturdy. I definitely got what I wanted. The rack is only rated at 100 pounds, but I was able to fit three adult bikes with no problems. There are alot of comments here about the hitch being wobbly, but mine is sturdy with minimal movement. Tighten the bolts folks! I thoroughly inspected the rack after our trips and found no crack in the welds or bending of any parts. Someone else mentioned that the rack had no straps, but the rack I purchased had all three straps that had plenty of length to secure the adult bikes. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend it for the price alone.dpat3537

Bought this a few weeks ago but the first time I tried to install it on my 2015 Suburban it was difficult to get the security cotter pin inserted into the hitch receiver bolt, due to the limited amount of space that the Suburban hitch received has to work with. After realizing that there was no way that my wife could install it by herself, decided to return the carrier. Also, the security provided by this carrier was limited at best, and the strapping system was not sufficient on its own to keep the manufacturer from feeling the need to include an additional loose strap for the user to wind in and around the posts and the bike frames to provide a second level of security to keep the bikes in place while being carried.RM Biker

This is a solid heavy duty rack. I have 2 step through e-bikes that fit very well. I had to also get cross bars since my frames are step through. I can mount the rack and load the bikes in well under 5 minutes. You need to be able to lift and handle 50lbs to load e-bikes on the rack. There are no locks on this rack. I also purchased a receiver pin lock and a cable pad lock to secure the bikes. All in, I still spent a lot less than some of the high end racks with locks.Ken
Rated for 200lbs, tire mounts BENT holding a single 60lb bike on one 120mile drive from Phoenix to Tucson. Cheap foam coating on frame support ground through entirely and DESTROYED my brand new $2000 bike frame before i even got to ride it. Please please dont buy this product. Its really unstable, 100% not safe for anywhere near what its rated and could destroy your bike like it did mine. The tire mounts are IMPOSSIBLE to tighten safely. They will tip and bend and move. Photos show destruction of the rack. The bike frame is being repaired by a welder to fill the gouge in the frame. Ordered this rack for a bike trip with friends. Sadly i cannot comment of the rack itself. The package delivered to my porch and looked as if it had been shoved out of an airplane from 10,000 feet. The mangled package had a strong pungent Moldy odor coming from it. We tore the soft spongy cardboard open on the end to peer inside. The inside of the box had spots of black nasty goo on it and the bike rack itself was covered with patches of rust. I find it hard to believe that someone at the warehouse actually sent this package out. They must have known this stinky mangled rusty package would be immediately returned. You need to step up the game wally, I will be re ordering this rack, but this time it will be from someone else who's name starts with the letter A.mpbjr57

This is a great two bike rack that I had about a year or two ago on my old car. It worked perfect on it! I got a new car last year and just got this rack again for it and it says that it’s compatible with my new car. I used it a couple of times and just now noticed that the bottom part of the rack had dented the trunk and left nasty scratches that now I’ll have to pay for since their customer service is garbage. Don’t put a vehicle on the list that isn’t full compatible… if you get this rack I recommend putting some extra padding on the bottom part of the rack or it could possibly damage your vehicle. It says it holds 70 lbs of bikes. The two bikes I use with it are way less than 70 pounds and the way the trunk is shaped causes it to push in and the metal ends up scraping the trunk. It should be one long foam padding on the bottom instead of one piece of foam on each side.Hunter
This rack might be able to hold two childrens bikes, but definitely not two adult bikes without serious problems. I would imagine the rubbing and bumping together just to get them on the rack would damage the finish…not to mention traveling with them. Theres just simply not enough space between the brackets. Its also the dickens to attach to our Equinox, even though it specifically states that it fits this car. I wouldnt want to carry more than one bike on it, and you need an additional bar (sold separately) to carry a womens bike. We returned it!Beverly

I was recently involved in an auto collision where my car was rear ended by an inattentive driver. On the back of my car was the T2 and on the T2 was my beloved C60. The impact of the collision was severe enough to deploy all of my car's interval safety devices. After I had settled down I went to check up on my bike; fearing the worst I was prepared to see a mangled up bike. I was not prepared for what I saw. The T2 was bent at a severe angle, the unused carrier trays were disloged and badly damaged BUT the trays where my bike sat were nearly intact. Except for some cosmetic damage, a mangled rear wheel and a broken rear derailleur hanger (my shop is currently inspecting the bike just to be sure) the bike appears to have escaped largely unscathed. Moreover, the body repair shop person told me that with the T2 absorbing the brunt of the impact, my car avoided more severe damage. So thank you Thule for making such a great product and thank you T2 for giving up your "life" to protect me, my car AND my bike.Just another cyclist
I recently bought the T2 Classic pre assembled from my local bike shop. My friends have the same rack on their trucks. I've used them many times. I love the fitment of the bikes. My wheelbase is 47" with 26" tires. After installing the rack on my truck, I found that my bike wouldn't fit. The back tire was sticking way off the back of the rack and the locking arm was nearly vertical. I checked the manual and it said that it will fit up to 48" bikes. I again checked the manual for fitment and noticed that the front wheel support cup was reversed for both bikes. So I promptly removed them and reversed them. My bike fits great now BUT one of the holes was stripped out during initial installation of the front tire cup by the dealer. Bolting into plastic isn't really the strongest support system. So now I need to either get a replacement piece or try to repair the one I've got. A simple solution would be to manufacture a third mounting hole which is not equal spacing from the other two holes. Then this problem would never happen. The wheel cup could never be reversed. But since this product has been manufactured for years, it's not really an option to change it. If the front wheel cup had a better mounting system, I would give this rack 5 stars. Easily adjustable rack. Such a nice addition to my truck.Colin

I have a Trek hybrid bike that I use for commuting to and from the store. I purchased a Wald folding rear folding bike basket from Amazon that I wanted to use with this rack. When i received the rack, the instructions were so difficult to understand that I had to seek the assistance of a fellow bike commuting enthusiast to help me assemble the rack and install it on my bike. The assembly and installation of this rack left much to be desired. My bike does not have eyelets on the frame or near the wheel hub, so my friend had to fashion two makeshift "eyelets" out of some washers and other screws that he already had. He also did not use the screws that were included with the rack, because they would not fit. Overall, although I was able to get this rack assembled and installed with help, I would not purchase it again, nor would I recommend it to someone else. Save a few extra bucks and buy a true universal bike rack. Oh, my folding bike basket did fit on the rack. I use this rack every time I use my bike (at least once weekly), and it works well. Universal rack means install may/may not go smoothly. purchased this inexpensive rack for a friend's 700CX38 rei novara corsa ladies bike. she wanted to support a tote with farmer's mkt veg so supporting that tote weight steel rack was a must in my opin. rack is a steal at the price. photos i took show i had to use the rear fender mount hole with the parts included. i did try using the rack stays and there was an issue. did end up using some #8 machine screws/nuts. walmart sells a machine screw assortment and that should handle any issue that emerges. note i did end up turning the 45 degree angle attachment upside down if you will. it worked better. but, that's why this call this a universal rack. note i do have a bicycle work stand, good selection of tools, lighting, and patience. this is not a rush job. had to bend the bracket 25 degrees with my vise to perfect fit on fender attachment hole. see photo. if you are unsure of your bike mechanic skills enlist a friend. 4 hands are helpful and another set of eyes to perhaps see a more opportune method of attachment. do not tighten screws/nuts/nylon lock nuts (provided) until all adjustments made and you are pleased. also, drag out a level and be certain your new rack is level. all in all, walmart's vendor offers a great product with this rack at a rock bottom price. summing up: i'm 71 and had a good time making a friend's bike more utility friendly. project was fun.tony
