San Francisco is a beautiful city with endless options for scenic bike rides. From the iconic Golden Gate Bridge to the rolling hills of the Presidio, biking is one of the best ways to explore the diverse neighborhoods and natural wonders of the city. When choosing the perfect bike ride in San Francisco, there are a few key factors to consider.
First, assess your biking skills and fitness level. San Francisco’s hilly terrain can be challenging for beginners. Select routes with less steep inclines if you’re just starting out. Also, make sure to pick rides within your ability so you can fully enjoy the sights instead of just focusing on pedaling up daunting hills.
Next, consider which neighborhoods and landmarks you want to see. Do you want to ride across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito? Or explore Golden Gate Park? Design your route to hit your must-see destinations. Also factor in the length of the ride and if you’ll need to take breaks to recharge.
Finally, check the weather forecast. Summertime can bring chilly San Francisco fog, while winter rains might dampen your ride. Aim for ideal cycling weather to avoid getting caught in poor conditions.
With the right bike route, San Francisco’s stunning vistas and charming neighborhoods await. From heart-pumping climbs up steep hills to leisurely rides along the Embarcadero, an epic bike adventure in the city is yours for the taking. How will you experience San Francisco on two wheels?

Reviews:
Coming from decades of road cycling experience, this is my first mountain bike. I'm fit enough for challenging rides, but little technical experience mountain biking. I purchased this bike to keep the investment low, but enable me to upgrade in the future. I've now gone on many steep, rocky, technical rides and the bike has done excellent. I'm very happy with my choice. I only upgraded to a dropper post at the time of purchase. In the future I'll upgrade the group set as I'd prefer a little more snappiness in shifting, but it performs very well on tough trails. No complaints!Rob C.
You can find a better full suspension MTB in this price range…..insane value for the price. I was frozen in analysis paralysis between the Marin RZ1 vs. the Giant Stance and I couldn't be happier with my RZ1-29er. I'm 6' even and 170-175lbs depending on pizza consumption, so I'm riding size large. I've been running downhill, technical climbs, flow and rump trails, and a bit of rugged XC, and this bike takes it all in stride. Pros: Both the front and rear shock have been more adjustable than I would have expected. The slack head angle makes the slow technical XC trails a little tricky, but it provides huge benefits for climbing and speedy descents. Cons: There really isn't much to dislike, but its worth mentioning that the RZ1 does not come with a dropper post. And the stock seat post is sure long, so you cant lower the seat all the way without cutting the post down significantly. That's an easy process with a hack saw and a file, but you can add a dropper for under $200 if you self-install. Overall, I cant recommend the RZ1 highly enough. If you're in the market for an affordable full suspension MTB then the Marin RZ1 is a smart place to invest your hard-earned coin.Joel
The bikesonline website is very organized and informative, and the online purchase was easy. I got a response to an email question from customer support in a few days. The bike shipped well-secured in a sturdy box that survived unscathed all the way from CA to TN. The bike arrived mostly assembled; I just attached the handlebar, seat post, and front wheel, then added some pedals. I bled the rear brake as the right brake lever was squishy, and I set the fork and shock air pressure/rebound for my granddaughter's weight, but no other tweaks were needed. The Marin bikes are great – I would rather have had a Rift Zone 2 29er but it was unavailable. The Recon Silver fork on the Rift Zone 1 is not my favorite, but overall we love the bike, the customer support, and the simplicity of shopping it.Gary H.
6. Santa Cruz 5010 C S – 2022
Product Details:
Get creative with your surroundings. the 5010 turns obstacles into features. its nimble, poppy feel makes even the most mundane rides feel like they're loaded with features to hop, skip, and jump over. it's the kind of bike that makes new trails feel as familiar as the back of your hand. 27.5 is the fun-sized wheel size. smaller wheels provide an ideal balance between toughness and weight saving making them the most fleet-footed (or quick fingered) whether launching logs or weaving through stumps. with its quick and agile character, the 5010 has become a go-to plaything for progressive riders the world over and the only contender on any backyard trails. it's a bike that goes harder than its vital stats may suggest. a 140mm-travel fork is paired with 130mm at the rear, the lower-link vpp configuration of which leaves you feeling there's a lot more travel at hand. and, you can choose how out of hand you want to get, as this pocket rocket fits all sizes and types of rear shocks. it's no handful, either. the relatively slack head angle makes it predictable to steer, the relatively low bb height turns like it's on tracks, and the short chainstays make this plaything easy to pick up and throw around. no matter how much of a big kid you are, the bike grows with you. okay, perhaps that's a bit nostalgic, but the 5010's certainly a perfect gateway to the highs only proper mountain biking can offer. the 5010's balance and poise can turn any rider from cautious neophyte into a full-fledged flyer. the legendary santa cruz fit, finish, and quality construction make this pocket rocket tougher than a tonka toy. so don't be afraid. roll up your sleeves, and go get creative.

Reviews:
Staff was great answering all of my ridiculous questions. I figured I was buying a Roll’s Royce of e-mountain bikes and should get all of my anxiety out. They gave pros, cons, reviews. Couldn’t be happier. I had it for 6 days now and have ridden nearly 100 miles. It’s a bike that assists you in bad situations. Jumps very well and is very lively. Thanks Mike’s Bikes for taking care of me! You guys are awesome. Respectfully, Brett Humphry San Diego, CABrett H.
I wasnt sure what to expect out of this bike. Being new for this year the reviews didnt have much substance to them outside of first impressions. That being said I am thrilled with this purchase. The MX tire size makes this bike just blow through trails that my 27.5 would take a bit more piloting. Being torn between the Nomad and the Bronson I am glad I went with the Bronson. Its a much more versatile bike for the types of rides I go on. The only con I have is that I expected more out of the brakes. Maybe bleeding them will help but as of now its not the feel I expected out of them.Joseph
I have owned this bike for close to a year now and so far I love it! I opted for the moss green because I didn't like the matt finish of the yellow one. Working in a bike shop I handled lots of bikes with matt finishes and they are grease print magnets! Anyone wanting to buy a Bronson with the matt finish I suggested a full clear film wrap just because of this. First of all, this bike handles amazing with the MX wheel sizing. The suspension is smooth and plush with very efficient pedaling for a more gravity oriented bike. I am a disabled veteran so having a nice comfy ride that allows me to push my limits further is super important. I also bought the lowest spec R model because I wanted to build up the bike myself with custom parts over time. The 4 stars is because of some of the components that come on a over $5K bike. First off, I was surprised this bike came with only an NX drivetrain, while this is a great option for beginner riders, I do not think anything below SRAM GX or Shimano XT should come factory on a bike of this price. I shaved off over half a pound just upgrading the NX cassette to an X01 cassette. Another issue I had was with the brakes, I may have just gotten defective rotors, but it felt like there was sand in my brakes from day one. On closer inspection I found little pot marks or pin holes along the very edge of the rotors braking surface. These pin holes will probably go away eventually with wear, or I could sand them down, but I ended up just getting hope floating rotors instead (SRAM centerline rotors). My last complaint is a little more of a personal preference thing. I sized down to a medium frame even though I'm 5'10" and Santa Cruz suggests the Large at my height. Well the medium only comes with a 150mm travel dropper post. I have about 4 inches of dropper post body exposed just to have the seat high enough, and with it all the way dropped I still hit the seat a lot doing downhill rides. The way they designed the VPP suspension unfortunately does not allow for much seat post insertion depth. The only way I could find to get a longer post installed was the ONE UP dropper adjustable to 180mm. I'll only gain 30mm of travel, but I'll take what I can get. Oh, and the headset area creaks and pops a little bit while riding, haven't figured out a solution for this yet. It came with the cheapest cane creek headset possible, which I guess is at least better than a cheap FSA headset. Overall I love this bike, and it just keeps getting better with every upgrade I do. If you want an excellent bike right out of the box though and budget is no issue, maybe get a higher spec model.Trevor
7. Pivot Cycles Firebird 29 Ride Gx/x01
Product Details:
Big wheels and big travel make for some speedy descents aboard the pivot firebird race x01 mountain bike. bred for the highest levels of enduro racing, the firebird is our first choice for black diamond runs and technical mountain terrain. the dw-link rear suspension uses a longer link that's inspired by the pivot phoenix downhill bike, maximizing the firebird's rearward axle path to make quick work of square-edged bumps and softening the blow of repeated chunky hits. alongside hollow-core carbon frame molding, pivot implements size-specific design and ride tuning on their frames. in essence, the carbon lay-up, tube thicknesses, and even chainstay lengths vary between sizes in order to maintain a consistent ride quality across all frame sizes. this ride gx/x01 build kit is a more cost-effective option than the pro or team-level build kits, but comes with a host of trustworthy components like a fox performance 38 fork, performance float x shock, x01/gx drivetrain, and dt swiss m1900 wheels. aggressive maxxis exo+ tires give us an abundance of grip and puncture protection, while sram code r 4-piston brakes handle our stopping duties with sufficient stopping power for any trail. *due to unprecedented demand in the global supply chain and the bike industry over the last 18 months, material weight and exact components are subject to change.

Reviews:
I have a medium Pro XT/XTR build. This bike kicks butt, it floats right through the chunk and pedals beautifully. It took some time to get the suspension set up correctly, but once I found that sweet spot the bike came alive. I have two other bikes which are both VPP. Those bikes are a lot of fun, but the DW link Pivot is just so smooth on the climbs.Titian D
Pivot Firebird Complete Carbon 29" Mountain Bike – Pro X01 w/ Air Shock, Large, GreenEvan W.
I'll start by saying that I was really excited about owning a Pivot, and especially a Switchblade. After having owned numerous Santa Cruz and Yetis over the years, I decided to give Pivot a chance. The bike arrived from BC with lots of issues: a defective Fox Float X shock right out of the box. The brakes were also super spongey and needed a bleed. The adhesive on the dust shield also wasn't properly applied, and every time the suspension flexes, you hear the sound of glue stretching or tearing. Lastly, the drivetrain wasn't even close to being adjusted correctly and the cable routing rattles. The pluses– the bike looks great, and it does ride well, although I wouldn't say its life changing or objectively any better than an SB130 or Hightower. I was expecting a lot from Pivot, and they and BC just didn't deliver, especially for the price. BC attempted to make it right, but the whole process saw me having to buy a new shock out of pocket just to be able to catch the start of riding season while they figured out how to fix the problem.Andrew B
