Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, biking is a great way to explore San Francisco. With its iconic hills, beautiful scenery, and temperate climate, the city offers some fantastic routes for riders of all levels. Before hopping on a bike, there are a few key factors to consider to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride around San Francisco.
First, plan your route ahead of time. San Francisco can be very hilly, so choose a route that matches your fitness level and experience. Avoid busy streets as much as possible by sticking to bike paths, lanes, and trails. Research any tough climbs or descents along the way so you know what to expect.
Next, make sure you have the proper bike and safety equipment. Helmets are a must, as are bike lights if riding at night or in low light conditions. Well-fitting clothing and closed-toe shoes will enhance comfort and prevent injuries. Equip your bike with reflectors and a bell or horn to alert others.
Finally, prepare for San Francisco’s changeable weather. The city sees everything from sunny days to foggy afternoons and chilly winds. Check the forecast and dress in layers you can adjust. Always bring water and snacks to refuel, as well as a lock, spare tube, patch kit, and portable pump in case of flats.
With the right route, gear, and preparation, cycling in San Francisco can provide hours of rewarding exercise and sightseeing. Have you found your favorite ride yet? What tips would you suggest for navigating the city’s hills and sights on two wheels? Figuring out the best bike routes ensures a spectacular pedaling adventure through this iconic city.

1. Building The Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint For Urban Vitality [Book]
Product Details:
In car-clogged urban areas across the world, the humble bicycle is enjoying a second life as a legitimate form of transportation. city officials are rediscovering it as a multi-pronged (or -spoked) solution to acute, 21st-century problems, including affordability, obesity, congestion, climate change, inequity, and social isolation. as the world’s foremost cycling nation, the netherlands is the only country where the number of bikes exceeds the number of people, primarily because the dutch have built a cycling culture accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, or economic means. chris and melissa bruntlett share the incredible success of the netherlands through engaging interviews with local experts and stories of their own delightful experiences riding in five dutch cities. building the cycling city examines the triumphs and challenges of the dutch while also presenting stories of north american cities already implementing lessons from across the atlantic. discover how dutch cities inspired atlanta to look at its transit-bike connection in a new way and showed seattle how to teach its residents to realize the freedom of biking, along with other encouraging examples. tellingly, the dutch have two words for people who ride bikes: wielrenner (“wheel runner”) and fietser (“cyclist”), the latter making up the vast majority of people pedaling on their streets, and representing a far more accessible, casual, and inclusive style of urban cycling—walking with wheels. outside of their borders, a significant cultural shift is needed to seamlessly integrate the bicycle into everyday life and create a whole world of fietsers. the dutch blueprint focuses on how people in a particular place want to move. the relatable success stories will leave readers inspired and ready to adopt and implement approaches to make their own cities better places to live, work, play, and—of course—cycle.
Reviews:
Robert E

Reviews:
I've got about 50 miles on this bike so far and boy is it a dream to ride. Comfortable, quick, stable, convenient. It's not the lightest bike but it has tons of attachment points and the geometry is happy on or off-road. I have never felt so at-home on a bike before.Zachary
Bravo.Pizza spéciale
I’m horrible mad when I’m not on this bike, it’s so fast and just an amazing ride. Swapped out the seat for a brooks and added some front racks… good grief this bike is responsive.Arsenal

Reviews:
I love this bike. It's exactly what was described online. The MooseJaw experience was amazing – I had a lot of questions when purchasing the Bike and the online chat was very responsive and knowledgeable. The bike was delivered quicker than expected. A MooseJaw employee emailed me to ask if I had any questions on assembly. And I also received a call to ensure the bike was exactly what I was expecting. I only had to install the front tire, seat, and handlebars after arrival. Everything else was already completed. Both tires had the correct air pressure when delivered. I would recommend, and have recommeneded, MooseJaw to all of my friends and Family. Great experience and will continue to use them in the future.David
Fantastic ride. I loved my old bike but I had no idea how much better the disc trucker would turn out to be. Luvin it…
The assembly is super easy. It arrived in a very large box. All you need is scissors to cut the zip ties and appropriate hex wrenches to put it together.Jassie

Reviews:
I purchased this bike about 2 months ago and have been very satisfied with it! It rides smoothly and I was surprised by the responsiveness of the microshift drive train. The one complaint I have is with the tektro brakes it comes with. No matter how I adjusted the brakes they would occasionally squeak. They also were just pretty weak even after I bedded them. After about 50 miles of riding with them I ordered some Juintech cable actuated hydraulic brakes and replaced the tektros. The braking performance was much much better! Overall I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants an entry to mid level adventure/gravel bike.Any_Sunset
Start to finish, it was a great buying experience.Heath M.
Just finished the Erie Canalway trail on my new Journeyer. The trail is 360 miles of dirt, gravel, and pavement. The Journeyer was at home on all surfaces. The frame geometry is slack enough to be forgiving on rougher surfaces, but the bike was solid and quick in a pace line on the road sections. The numerous mount points support any bag or rack system, but the sloping top tube does limit frame bag size.Josh
