My hair was a highly dull off-black with an auburn brown tint from sun exposure. The ends (about 3inches) of my hair was a dark blond from permanent hair dye about 2yrs ago that was still growing out. My hair length is a few inches past my collar bone so I suppose it's medium length. I have high density hair (lots of hair strands) and my hair strands are thick. I would always have to buy 2 boxes of hair dye for my hair because it is so dense. However, I only needed one box of this hair dye and I even had about 1/4 of it left over. The box contains a set of instructions (which are very clear by the way), a sample of their shampoo and conditioner, gloves (which didn't break or tear), hair dye, developer, and an applicator bottle. I personally prefer using a mixing bowl and applicator brush. Next time, I will use those items instead. I parted my hair into six sections and worked one section at a time and started on the roots first throughout my head, then proceeded to the length of my hair. It states to let the dye sit for 20min but considering that my hair is a bit color resistant, I let it sit for about 40 instead. Normally, I wouldn't extend it for this amount of time, but considering this product was natural, I took a chance. I wouldn't recommend you do this but use your personal experience and judgement. The instructions strongly recommend that you do an allergy test (place the hair dye on inner elbow) and watch it over the next 48hrs to see if you will have an allergic reaction before using the hair dye. However, I did not do this. I do have sensitive skin but never had an allergic reaction to any hair dye so I based my decision partly off that. I didn't like the shampoo nor the conditioner that came with it. The shampoo made my hair tangle and it felt like it was stripping my hair. The conditioner wasn't effective in making my hair feel conditioned. The actual hair dye made my hair feel soft becaused it is packed with oils. I still would use the shampoo and conditioner since they are meant to work together after the hair dye process. The hair dye was a COMPLETE SUCCESS! It completely covered my blond ends and the entirety of my head. My hair is now black. I must state that this Poppyseed color (2N) is a NATURAL black so it is NOT jet black. I actually wanted jet black hair but the Vitamin Shoppe that I shopped at didn't have it so I got this instead. Next time, I will definitely be getting the jet black which is called Licorice (1N) which is the darkest shade. I can't wait to do it again!LovelyBreeze

My experience here was a bit different than all other previous reviews, so take it as it is. I have very thin curly brown hair and this gave me a nice dark blonde colour. It looks very beautiful in terms of colour, has good coverage and is easy to mix and apply (although you need your own bowl and mixing tool). My hair is long but one box was enough and unlike all other dyes, it didn't bleed to the towel or pillow at all and didn't stain my skin. Now the cons: it has a VERY strong smell when applying! Not sure how everyone is saying it smells good… the smell goes away the next day, but do not apply in a closed space. Also, and this made me fear for my life: my hair got extremely dry right after washing the dye off… it felt like I was touching hay and not hair. I was shocked!! Even after the conditioner from the box, my own conditioner, it felt like it was ruined… only after a week or so of putting leave in conditioner everyday and not using shampoo it got back to normal, so beware you may need to do some extra conditioner care afterwards (this never happened to me before with any other dye). I mixed this color (5D light golden chestnut) with 7D (golden blond). The ratio is one unit of developer to one unit of color. So I used a half unit of each color to equal one color unit and blended that with one unit of the developer. The remaining color that I didn't use from each bottle will be used next time, so I get two uses out of each box. I chose to blend those two colors to try to get close to my natural shade, which is a light brown with some golden strands and some hints of red. I did a bunch of research before I bought these colors. I learned that the same shades act differently on all different people and just accepted that I wouldn't be able to predict the exact outcome. If you want to be more sure of the actual result, you can save your hair from the shower for a week and then use that as a test to see how the color takes to your hair. Who knew there'd be a use for that annoying shower hair! My results were quite dark the day that I dyed it — it was a rich chocolate tone. It lightened up after a few washes. It's now been more than a week since I colored it and it looks great. I have about 20% gray and it covered them well. I like that the formula doesn't have a harsh chemical scent. Have been dying my grey roots every 3-4 weeks for about 10 years now and nice n easy in 6N (half a box) had been my drug of choice up to now. Few formula changes later and am ready to try something different. I like that I can easily measure out what I need to use as both are liquid and mixed in a 1:1 ratio. I love that there is no overpowering odour striking as soon as mixing happens although slightly unnerving that this mixes into a plastic-like gel with no other odour?(Not sure how natural it is?) It is odd but you do get used to it, just don’t get lulled into a false sense of security and make sure you take usual precautions to clean up any spillages etc as it does stain quickly as with any other dyes. Colour-wise is about equivalent to nice n easy one and covers grey well but does seem to fade quite quickly so have just started adding a couple of capfuls of 5N to half bottle 6N when applying to roots then rest of 6N for last 5 mins on rest of hair. Bought few boxes in a recent deal so got really good price – making it more on par with other hair dyes.DancingDonnaDee
This is a lovely hair colouring product: easy to use and great colour results. The smell is, not unpleasant, just different. My only criticism would be that using it on my level 7/8 hair, I used 8A, there isnt enough ash in it to counteract the orange undertone that kicks up when you lighten in that mid blonde range, so it looks a bit warmer than I would have liked. Toning shampoo (blue) helps. It will probably get cooler on my second use when I retouch my roots. It looked lovely on the lighter parts of my hair though so my advice would be to use it if your hair is lighter than a level 8, but be prepared for your colour to be warmer than ash if its darker. The hair mask thats included has a, again not unpleasant, smell to it thats different, but gives lovely, shiny results. I will be using this colour product again and would recommend it.aunty_deedee
This hair colour does a great job of covering my VERY stubborn greys. And keeping them covered for a good 6 weeks. I tried a couple of others during the pandemic and once I tried this, I never went back. When salons opened, the stylist was actually pretty impressed by how healthy my hair and how “soft” the colour looked. Definitely use the quinoa mask that comes with it. As someone who’s used box dyes for well over 10 years, I’ve never come across one that’s as shockingly bad as this. For the last year or so I’ve been using casting creme gloss as I didn’t want to use permanent until I was sure I wanted to stay dark. I made the decision to move to permanent and thought that John Frieda is a good brand so I would use their precision foam gloss. As I had a bit of root regrowth (fair hair naturally and a few greys coming through) I applied this to my roots first and left for 10 minutes before applying to my lengths and leaving for a further 20 minutes. I used 2 boxes as I have thick shoulder length hair. First of all, this drips like mad. I normally clean the bathroom and bedroom while my dye is developing and noticed that this had left drip marks all over my bedroom carpet and bathroom floor, as well as the towel around my shoulders, this is the first dye I’ve ever used that has done this. I rinsed this off and left to dry naturally for 30 minutes before using a hairdryer and I was disappointed to see that my roots were still fair with absolutely no change to the colour of my hair. I’m astonished that a brand like John Frieda could have such a terrible product. I wish I’d gone with L’Oréal preference as their dye is great, I only didn’t use them because there wasn’t a dark enough shade on the Boots website. Please don’t waste your money on this!Charlie2806
First of all, I want to say I have VERY long and full latin hair. It is up to my lower back and I purchased 2 boxes- but only needed ONE. At first, I didn’t think the foam would work or even make it as it’s a liquid, it makes you skeptical it’s even costing the hair evenly, but you can’t be scared to spread it all around, massage it into your scalp, use a comb if you have to. I think the best part of this dye was the fact that it’s mess free. With the squirt bottle dyes, I always end up getting it on my walls, or floor, or countertop- with this one the foam is so easy to work with. I never really use the gloves provided in the boxes of hair color because they tend to rip at the seams- so use your own gloves. 2N was the color I used and it looks identical to the picture on the box. Just gorgeous. It’s a very dark brown that appears black but not blue black. I’m just in love with it and how soft my hair is after. I will keep buying this one and can’t recommend it enough. These seem to have a lot of good reviews, but at the same time a lot of bad if you do some research. Unfortunately, the bad ones I have seen I fully agree with. It could have already been written by me. This is honestly the worst hair dye I have ever used… I used this once, it didnt take to my hair, it was patchy and about 4 different shades. it made my hair feel like straw, and when blow drying it my hair went stiff like there was product on my hair, I couldn’t get the brush through it properly. The conditioner they provide is horrendous. It did not feel nice applying to my hair at all. This was such a bad experience for me that I contacted them to complain, they sent me another two boxes of the same shade to try again as they were confident it was just a one off event. I think not. The same thing has happened again, only this time I did not use their conditioner I used my own. I have washed my hair 2 times since, once every day, it STILL feels like there is ‘product’ in my hair. And when you run your fingers through it, it leaves a Greasy film on your hands?? First off I would like to say that MM's products are very high quality and I am very pleased to have found your company. However, at the moment I am not a happy camper to the major changes MM has made to the size of the henna dye packages without the courtesy of informing customers. When I happily began to use MM's henna hair dyes (specifically red and dark brown), the price was about US$10 and the weight of each of the henna packages was about 120 grams each whether for the red or for the dark brown. For the dark brown product, the bag contained two bags, each bag weighed, (if my memory serves me right)120 grams. As most Colombian women I have long, thick, hair and the quantity I received was exactly what I needed to get the job done. Fast forward to my last shipment and it now turns out that the dark brown color packages have been substantially reduced and in a way that is illogical and uneven. The dark brown henna pouch weighs 65 grams (that's 50% less product) and the dark brown indigo weighs 81 grams (68 % less). However the price has increased by $3.00. So, now I'm paying 50% more and receiving an average of 60% less product. As I live overseas and it takes up to a month for the products to get to me, I usually buy 3-4 packages and I count that these will last me the 3-4- months. However, this time I had to open another package to make up the difference and now I have to buy more product right away. Can you imagine going to your grocery store and noticing that the carton of milk you always bought for x is now 68% smaller but the price has increased? Had MM at least notified customers of this (I never got any notification) I could have planned accordingly. In addition, it makes no sense that there is no uniformity in the weight of the dark brown henna and the dark brown indigo which necessitates that I now have to weigh everything so that I get the exact amount the 122 grams. Before I didn't have to measure anything. PLEASE PLEASE be kinder and more generous with your customers (especially those of us who live overseas – and have to pay a LOT of money in customs and taxes to get the product here). Thank you. I rarely write reviews but this product deserves it. I am a picky, conservative person. I am also all about avoiding chemicals and I was desperate to find a solution to my gray hair. This product was perfect for me: Not only covered my gray hair but it also left my hair smoother and softer, it has no harsh chemicals, I got to keep my hair like its natural color. I absolutely love it. I will probably use it for the rest of my life. The smell of the indigo powder is the only negative aspect about this method, but hey, you get a nasty smell with whatever dye you use, so I think it is worth it. Plus, I have learned how to hide the smell (I drop over a tablespoon of cinnamon in the mix). Also if you're interested in covering gray hair, make sure you use the two method: I usually apply henna with amla, cover my hair with a plastic, leave it in my head for two hours, rinse and then apply the henna and indigo mixture and cover again for two hours. I always recommend this product to my friends. Every time I cover my gray hair I feel 10 yrs younger <3
I used the red henna as a first step for gray coverage. I used cooled black tea and two tablespoons apple cider vinegar to mix it up, and I let it sit covered in a bowl for 11.5 hours overnight for dye release because it was a chilly night. I had help to apply it, it took us about an hour to get it all applied. I used one whole package for my shoulder length hair and it was plenty, my helper glopped it on really thick. I covered it up in plastic and a towel and let it stay on for 5 hours, a little more than the instructions say because I wanted it to be dark. On the first day it was a beautiful red, and my grays were a bright glowing red! 72 hours later it all darkened up and got more subtle. I like it a lot. Tomorrow I plan to apply light brown henna + amla as a 2nd step for gray coverage, so I'll see how it goes, I'm guessing it's not going to be very light though. One note, the tiny bit of hair that peaked out of the plastic shower cap in front of my ears did not end up with as much color, and I think it is because it dried out since it was exposed and didn't stay moist the whole time. Next time I will cover those spots better with plastic wrap too.

My favourite shade ever!!! Whan I'm blonde I always use this one. It lasts a long time and it cancels out pretty much all of the yellow tinges left from the lightening process before that. I've been using Garnier Olia's ammonia free hair color for quite a while and am always pleased with the color. You may have to try two different colors to get exactly what you want, and you may have to alter the amount of time you leave the product on your hair. My wife now prefers this over the major brands. She has been using it for a couple of years unless she runs out and we aren't ordering anything on Vitacost. She loves the color (honey blonde 9N) and so do I. Per the FAQs on their website "Naturtint® does not contain parabens, silicones, paraffin, mineral oils, heavy metals, artificial fragrances, SLS, or formaldehyde derivatives. Naturtint® is not tested on animals. Naturtint® uses ethanolamine as the alkaline medium; it is less aggressive than ammonia and achieves the proper pH in a gentler way." So we feel a little better about what's going down the drain, and what isn't. But the color is what matters most and it's a winner. You can buy cheaper hair color, but why?victorspoils
I've been using Naturtint for awhile now. I have long hair and a lot of hair so I find it necessary to use 2 boxes each time that I want to color my hair all over. Sometimes there's some product leftover but it's necessary to ensure I can saturate all the way to the roots. Actually my friend colors for me because when I've done it myself I have ended up with irregular color in spots. Also, I mix colors. I use 1 9N honey blond plus 1 wheat germ blonde. I put 1/2 of each of the colorant into the bottle so that both bottles are the same. I also add a touch of one of the red hues to get a nice strawberry blonde. I get lots of compliments on my color. As a natural blonde starting to go gray it's hard to keep red color on – so it fades betweens colorings. This product fully covers my grays when applied correctly and left on for the right amount of time. I Recommend having a friend help and be sure to get all the way to the scalp to cover roots and the temples are another spot that are easy to miss – be sure to get all the way to your face at your temples. Dear L'Oreal, I've been using L'Oreal Excellence hair color 7R Red Penny for many years. Everywhere I go I am complimented on my amazing hair color – the beautiful color, the shine and softness. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that my color was discontinued! I, too, have tried 6R and the color was bland in comparison. I have now been forced to try other brands to try to duplicate the look of 7R, but to no avail. Please, please, please bring Excellence Cream 7R Red Penny back! People (strangers!) have even stopped me in the middle of stores to ask me if my hair color is natural (because it looks so natural) and if not, what product and color I use. I used the 5AB color because I wanted to cover my brassy lifted hair and go maybe a shade darker. Make sure you use 10 volume developer not the one they give you if you’re just going darker. If you use the one they give, it will be harsh and lift your hair and you risk having even more red or orange in your hair. I have a really thick head of hair but only ended up using half a bottle since my hair is short. It feels pretty soft and I didn’t lose much hair rinsing it out. We’ll see how it wears! I’m not quite sure what people are doing wrong, but I have used this product for years if not decades to cover up grays. I have black/brown hair with bright white grays and I use the dark brown color. The color lasts for two months . I have no problem with matching- because the color always “reveals” itself at two weeks- which is normal for all box dye in my experience. I love everything about this kit. I purchase extra gloves nitrile, hair dye brushes, cheap butterfly clips and disposable shower caps. I do it on a day where my hair is greasy because I’m about to take a shower (this protects my scalp from the color and my hair from damage). I mix the color and developer together and let it sit while I rub the pretreatment in with my gloved hands. I shake up the color a lot (60 seconds!) and after I see actual color develop I shake it some more and then start applying. I apply to the top of my hair, brushing it in and then I clip that section off. I work in sections, top, sides and back and then let the dye work for 40 minutes from when I finish applying- cover it with a disposable cap so I don’t drip dye everywhere. I use all of the bottle for my shoulder length hair. This is key!!!! You need to let the part of your hair that is seen the most sit for the entire time. I rinse it out with cold water only (gloves!!!) and then add the conditioner (the whole tube) and let it set in my hair for 5 minutes (also in a cap) before rinsing it out with cold water and washing it with color safe shampoo in cold water. I do not apply this with a comb. There is a comb attachment- but I use a brush to spread it on my hair and the comb attachment to spread it on the brush. You want to paint your hair, soaking it with dye. The other trick is that when I shower, I condition first before I shampoo. This keeps the color in more and I get an incredible volume without my hair getting crunchy.tiziny

I really liked how this turned out on my hair. My hair is already pretty dark but my roots grow in pretty fast so this was absolutely needed. It does not have a super strong chemical smell, and left my hair feeling soft: I have problems using color that often damages my curl pattern. This did not! This is my hair immediately after wash. For reference my hair is a medium to light brown with an ash undertone and some gray hairs. Midnight blue is really nice with an undertone of a blue tint but no actual blue to your hair. Jet black is very dark, sharp and glossy looking. Natural black still solid coverage but a softer tone to it. Chestnut brown has a golden almost auburn color to it. Red hot rhythms is stunning when first applied but quickly loses color in less than a week making your hair look very much like a box dye job. Golden blond is true golden warm tone but again you need a professional to lighten your hair first in order for the color to take all the way through your hair. I don't know who has their nose broken, but the conditioner smells absolutely fabulous. Reminds of a salon honestly. obviously when you're dying you need to have a fan going but even that's not a bad smell. Bottom line as with any color going darker than your hair tone is always easy and possible. And going lighter impossible without a bleach or toner to lighten it first before depositing color. I really liked this brand, it was new to me and this is how I feel about it. Now that I’ve went through the process of dying my hair and the color has now been in for a full day. First the packaging was very neat and you knew what you were working with. Once opened everything was in the box with easy to read instructions. I was super excited to see the dye bottle was a twist off top. Usually I have to cut the tip of the dye bottle in the boxes dye that I normally use. The dye mixed after a few hard shakes, but once I poured into my hair I could see that it didn’t mix all the way so had to give a bit more hard shakes to get it to fully mix. The liquid itself was runny, I like my hair dye a bit less runny. The smell of it was not too powering, and once on the head and scalp it did burn a bit while I sat to catch my hair. The washout was nice and not messy. A few rinses and it came out clear. The product came with a very nice sized conditioner, that has left my hair super soft. The conditioner had a very nice smell. It reminded me of tropical fruit. My hair still smells like it, and I work all day. All my hair caught the color and came out great. I would recommend trying this brand if you have it within reach. The few highlights I have left were slightly more vibrant, but it’s hard to attribute that to this product since they’re always more a touch more vibrant after washing my hair. This product claims to enhance tone, boost shine, and deeply condition to keep your hair color looking gorgeous and glossy. I’ll definitely give it credit for boosting the shine, but honestly, I can get better conditioning from other products that require less time to apply and don’t have a long warning label on the bottle. For natural hair, I don’t see this product as beneficial or necessary. If you have highlights or color that you want to boost, I would suggest trying the various other Gloss options (or the clear, depending on the color of hair dye you used). I found this on clearance for 50% off retail at kroger so I decided to try this out. This is a gloss that I found intriguing as decided to try. The steps seemed easy enough. Simply treat it like a conditioner or hair mask. Apply while in shower to damp clean hair, wait a while and then rinse. The bottle states it is up to 3 applications. The bottle is big so I'm safely assuming you do have to use a lot for the results. I have long thick black / dark brown hair. I really just want this for the "shine" I saw in the back of the box. I think those who are unhappy with this product didn't use the right color. I have had silver hair naturally for over 30 years and brassiness has always been a problem. Heat styling has only made it worse. I have spent hundreds on products that promised the moon and did nothing or gave me lavender or grey hair. This product in Silver White is an answer to my prayers. I love it! I tried Silver first and realized that it left my hair a bit darker. I searched to see if they had a lighter one and they have. Go with Excellence. I normally use L’Oréal Excellence but decided to tried something different and tried Preference in same shade I usually use in dark ash brown. Well, Excellence does a better job… Preference faded and washed out from my gray roots. I had to do a double take to make sure I used permanent dye. Well it was! I have partial gray areas I use the dye to cover. I don’t recall having this issue w/ Excellence. If you have gray you’re looking to cover, go with Excellence. I was looking to color my hair auburn which is exactly what this product did. I had medium brown virgin hair with a few grey's. I would suggest to apply the product to the middle and ends of your hair for 15 minutes and only apply to roots for maybe seven minutes. I did get some hot roots in a small patch near the front of my hairline. I will be googling and youtubing how to correct that spot. I would definitely not keep it on my roots for the full 10 minutes the box suggests. There is not alot of multidimension color but there is definitely color change from my medium brown. I think that the product doesn't need to be as strong as it is. I don't know a ton about color, but this company should maybe use a less harsh developer? They are trying to appeal to a large audience, but they are just messing up alot of people haircoloring experience. I read alot of the reviews beforehand so I knew that my hair would go auburn. If someone just picks the box and thinks their hair is gonna have Carmel highlights they are in for a unpleasant surprise.Sarah
I thought the product was magnificent. The one application was enough to cover my entire head from root to end and when my hair is wet it lands on my shoulders and I have naturally curly hair. I have tons of white hair or with some would call grey very heavy in the front. I have been ill and having colored my hair in 6 months. My hair is naturally black but at 55 I want it to go lighter without anything pulling red. The results are absolutely stunning. I don't normally leave reviews, but this one deserves one. My hair had a balayage in December that was pink originally. I'm naturally dark brown, so we only needed one round of bleach to get it to the right level for it to be pink. I then decided to let the pink fade out and transition to a corn blonde – quite warm, quite golden. I bought these drops as a way to knock out some of the brassy and orange tones I was seeing between going to the salon. Because this toner is supposed to make your hair white, it has blue and purple in it, which is perfect – better than a blue or purple shampoo. I love that you just mix it with your conditioner. I usually do an Olaplex 3 mask before, then wash it, then condition with the toner every weekend. It takes some trial to get the right intensity. I started with 4 drops, which was a bit more subtle, then went for 6, which left me with a lovely golden blonde – my hair isn't bleached enough for it to go white. There are still some coppery tones, but I suppose that's because different parts of the hair will react to the toner differently. I also don't hate it – it's like having hints of strawberry. Highly recommend for mid-blondes looking for purple or blue shampoo alternatives.Em
I bought this a couple of weeks ago, having read the reviews I was excited. It is extremely easy to use. I applied a week ago, I added 8 drops rather than the recommended 6 as I'd put more conditioner in than was needed. The resulting colour was much darker than expected however still a lilac shade (perhaps more blue tones than pink). It does not take on all of the hair, so mine ended more like highlights (which i was disappointed in as wanted whole hair lilac so knocked a star off), however this also happens when the hairdressers does their lilac toner on my hair. I've washed my hair twice and it has faded quite considerably and the result has made the colour look patchy(so another star knocked off). The good points are it's extremely easy to use, and much less messy than other brands. I think it would also be possible to mix your own colours too, so I will buy one of the pinks next time and add 1 drop to see if it achieves the actual lilac tone I had wanted.Hannah66
I spent ages trying to figure out which toner to get following an over-bleached half head balayage, which had left my hair a combination of yellow and white on the top, and with a huge contrast between my brunette natural colour underneath. Having explicitly asked for a warm dark blonde, I was on the hunt for something which would make my blonde hair a bit darker and also add a nice tone to it. I was drawn in by the other reviews referring to this toner being great on over-bleached hair which was either white or yellow, transforming hair into a honey/caramel-blonde – which is what I had asked the hairdresser for. I was half tempted to go back to another hairdressers and pay for a toner but with the cost of living crisis I thought I'd give this a go. I used 4 drops with my normal conditioner, left it on for 10 minutes and honestly there is already a huge huge difference – the tone is so nice and I'm FINALLY happy with my hair colour. I'll keep using this – and will probably try adding more drops next time to see what happens. I never leave reviews but given how many hours I sunk into trying to figure out what to buy – and nearly spent £30 on something else – I thought I'd leave some details in case it helps shorten the search for someone else in my predicament. So I bought this to bleach a wig that I bought. I previously bleached the wig the same day but it still wasn’t bright enough. I used three boxes and the hair was long and I didn’t leave it on for the recommended time on the instructions. This did exactly what I needed it to do. Did a great job at bleaching the hair. Color came out even, however hair was EXTREMELY dry after rinsing…… BUT that said, the toner included infused so much moisture back into my strands I was thoroughly impressed. It did relax my curl pattern slightly, however all my natural curls are still intact. I did half my hair using the bottle in the kit, which was fine, but the other half I put in a bowl and applied with a applicator brush (just because it seemed quicker and would give a more even bleach job). The dye is not thick gel it is medium like conditioner for $9.97 worth the value still as it does cover Grey and not a semi- permanent! Love this hair color, definitely not dull. You get so many different highlights yet a solid color. It doesn't damage my hair as others have. I've learned to stick with loreal when it comes to home color. I use a blonde color and I have some red in my hair, this brings it down to almost what the box shows. Go with Excellence. I normally use L’Oréal Excellence but decided to tried something different and tried Preference in same shade I usually use in dark ash brown. Well, Excellence does a better job… Preference faded and washed out from my gray roots. I had to do a double take to make sure I used permanent dye. Well it was! I have partial gray areas I use the dye to cover. I don’t recall having this issue w/ Excellence. If you have gray you’re looking to cover, go with Excellence. I didn't approve or ask for this shade! I got starry black. I'm a natural blonde. In order for me to achieve black hair that doesn't turn green after the 1st wash,I would have to do a filler color first like a medium brown. I don't want to put all those chemicals on my hair. Plus I don't want black hair! I DID NOT USE THIS! I have used feria in the past though, I have used their bleaching kit and their auburn, red and black cherry shades. It is the only box dye I will use. It not only has an essential oil you add to it for a better smell but it also helps the hair feel softer and more hydrated as well as look shiny and healthy, well as healthy as dyed hair can look. For a box dye it's not bad. If I had gotten a color I approved of I totally would have used it! My daughter has medium golden brown hair and has been debating allowing me to use this on her. I don't know if I got a defective kit, but this product did pretty much nothing on my hair. I got it with the understanding that the result would be slightly redder than the swatches, as I was using this to reduce a brassy faded red color that did not take and lighten my light brown hair to a strawberry blonde. My original shade does, in fact match the light brown swatch on the product. However, after application, there was very little difference in the result and certainly nowhere near the lighter blonde swatch that was shown on the package. The product did not thicken very quickly when mixed (which is unusual for hair color but not unexpected as some color mixes will thicken a lot whereas some will thicken very little) and turned to a gel-like consistency after approximately 10 minutes. The product shows a 1-3 level lift on light brown to blonde hair. This product did not provide even a 1 level lift on my hair, which has always been very easy to color, even with this product line in other shades. Honestly, I could have gotten a better result with a product like 'Sun-in'. So I was very disappointed in this product and would not recommend 8.5A Champagne Blonde to anyone needing a light brown/dark blonde to a lighter blonde result. Easy to use. Very very natural color. I have to use an old towel for a few days due to color coming out, but that's not unusual. I have been using Herbatint for about 10 years, did try different colors combinations: red, brown, blond.—never disappointed with the condition of my hair after coloring. Then i decided to try the Naturigin brand. First i google it—brand from Denmark. I sought why not. Color—light Ash blond is as pictured—true Light Ash blond, but my hair felt so dry—like a hay. I tried differend moisturizer, but damage has been done. I have fine hair and i believe whatever was in this color was too strong for my hair type—it burned and got a lot of breakage. it’s never happened to me after using the Herbatint. Pictures with blue shirt are before. Others are after under the same lighting 1 hour apart. First off, I want to say I chose this product over other hair dyes because it is a vegan formula and cruelty free approved which means (hopefully) animals were not used or harmed for these ingredients. I purchased two boxes since my hair is medium to long length, and I was surprised that one box was enough to saturate my entire hair with product left over. The product is rather runny so it stretches a LOT which i found to be great but messy. It smells great and not like traditional hair dyes which is a huge bonus for me. The only time I noticed a weird odor was when using the After Color Conditioner, but it’s not too bad. This is the SOFTEST I have ever felt my hair after using a box dye. It is shocking how smooth and healthy it feels after this. I will say- the conditioner does leave your hair pretty greasy after washing and drying, but I plan to leave it like this all day so the color truly sticks and then use my regular color-safe shampoos before bed so I don’t stain my pillows. The color: Truly, I don’t believe the color advertised on the box is accurately represented. The picture shows a cool black with undertones of purple. For me, already having dark brown hair with red undertones, the result was a warm black with brown undertones so much so that it actually looks very natural as if I was born with black hair. I would consider this like a “soft black” dye. Though I’m not sure what they mean by “platinum black” it is definitely not leaning towards a Jet black. All in all: I am VERY satisfied with this product- being that it’s only the first day I don’t know how it will do overtime with fading, but the price point is perfect as I tend to stay away from box dyes that are under $7 due to quality. I also feel like it just did a beautiful job coloring the hair and leaving it shiny and healthy. Although the color May not have been extremely accurate, I am definitely going to stick with this brands Olía line and move more towards a deeper cool “Jet black” knowing that this one just looks like a regular normal black- which is perfect for someone wanting a natural simple tint!Laso5959
I’m 33 and I have a ton of gray around the crown of my head. I went from having a salad balayage, to dyeing my hair very dark brown because I couldn’t afford a trip to the salon. I tried my best to keep my balayage highlights intact, but it ended up dyeing over all of them. Every ‘medium’ brown I touch, turns my hair practically black. So I let the last color fade out over a few months, and decided to try this color. When I first washed it out I was a little nervous I had ‘hot roots’, because they looked very red. My hair likes to go red with any dye period, but they looked kind of orange, so I was a little scared. Once I finished drying my hair, I was pretty happy with the results. Not only did it lighten my hair significantly, but it brought back the balayage highlights that were unfortunately dyed dark. My hair does have kind of a ‘chestnut’ tone to it, but I’m over all satisfied that it lightened my hair, covered my grays, and didn’t go so dark that I lost color dimension.Alex k
Olia hair color in Dark Rose Quartz left my hair feeling silky smooth and soft! I love that it doesn't have the harshness of ammonia, which makes it smell a lot better than most hair dyes out there. I was happy with the way the color came out, but I would consider it more of a tint than a traditional dye, which is why I took a star off (I have medium brown hair with blonde balayage). If I was hoping for the color on the box, I don't know that I would have been as happy. Dark Rose Quartz is a fun and subtle shade for someone who wants to shake up their hair color without getting too crazy! I received a free product in exchange for my honest review.
