Best Blonde Home Hair Dye (2023 Update)

I really liked how this turned out on my hair. My hair is already pretty dark but my roots grow in pretty fast so this was absolutely needed. It does not have a super strong chemical smell, and left my hair feeling soft: I have problems using color that often damages my curl pattern. This did not! This is my hair immediately after wash. For reference my hair is a medium to light brown with an ash undertone and some gray hairs. Midnight blue is really nice with an undertone of a blue tint but no actual blue to your hair. Jet black is very dark, sharp and glossy looking. Natural black still solid coverage but a softer tone to it. Chestnut brown has a golden almost auburn color to it. Red hot rhythms is stunning when first applied but quickly loses color in less than a week making your hair look very much like a box dye job. Golden blond is true golden warm tone but again you need a professional to lighten your hair first in order for the color to take all the way through your hair. I don't know who has their nose broken, but the conditioner smells absolutely fabulous. Reminds of a salon honestly. obviously when you're dying you need to have a fan going but even that's not a bad smell. Bottom line as with any color going darker than your hair tone is always easy and possible. And going lighter impossible without a bleach or toner to lighten it first before depositing color. I really liked this brand, it was new to me and this is how I feel about it. Now that I’ve went through the process of dying my hair and the color has now been in for a full day. First the packaging was very neat and you knew what you were working with. Once opened everything was in the box with easy to read instructions. I was super excited to see the dye bottle was a twist off top. Usually I have to cut the tip of the dye bottle in the boxes dye that I normally use. The dye mixed after a few hard shakes, but once I poured into my hair I could see that it didn’t mix all the way so had to give a bit more hard shakes to get it to fully mix. The liquid itself was runny, I like my hair dye a bit less runny. The smell of it was not too powering, and once on the head and scalp it did burn a bit while I sat to catch my hair. The washout was nice and not messy. A few rinses and it came out clear. The product came with a very nice sized conditioner, that has left my hair super soft. The conditioner had a very nice smell. It reminded me of tropical fruit. My hair still smells like it, and I work all day. All my hair caught the color and came out great. I would recommend trying this brand if you have it within reach. I received this product and was eager to trial it. There’s nothing quite like a colour touch up to make you feel a little more refreshed and energised! The product was super easy to use and everything needed was contained in one compact box. I followed the directions with ease and all progressed to plan. The end result was reasonably true to the desired colour although my hair did end up more orange than I had anticipated. I accept this can happen with hair colours because there are so many factors that contribute to the end result. The hair colour did address my primary concern – covering the dreaded greys! The smell was not offensive as can happen with some brands and I liked the fuss free application process. A major benefit is the convenience of doing this at home at a time that suits me and a cost that is budget friendly! I have had my colour now for a week and the colour at this stage is still looking fresh with great coverage. I received this hair dye to trial as part of the Beauty Review Crew. I have used this brand of hair dye a few times over the past couple years. In particular, I have used the shade 'Darkest brown' which is the same shade I'm trialing today. The shade has always been is a lovely vibrant colour and the colour result is similar to my natural hair colour. The dye promises to 100% grey hair coverage and it lives up to its promise. Preparing the dye for application is nice and easy. After applying the gloves that are included in the packaging, you pour the colour formula into the bottle of developer before placing the lid back on and shaking the bottle until completely mixed. It's that easy! Then starting at the roots, you evenly apply the dye. The dye goes on smoothly and, surprisingly, the dye scent isn't as strong as other brands. Other brands tend to have a strong chemical smell which makes my eyes water and nose tingle when breathing it in. Clairol have done a great job at producing a hair product with a low scent. One of the best things about Clairol's nice n' easy hair dyes is the short processing times. Unlike other brands that have a processing time of upwards to an hour to reach your desired shade, these dye have an average processing time of just 25 minutes. The short processing time means you can dye your hair during your lunch break, before a night out, or before a date, without it taking up too much of your time. The rinsing process is also quite a smooth and easy process. After applying some warm water, give your hear/head a little massage and then rinse until the water runs clear from all the dye. It normally takes around two minutes for the water to run clear. Then using the conditioning Clairol conditioning treatment that comes with the hair dye, you apply from roots to tips and leave for a couple minutes before rinsing. The conditioning treatment has a lovely scent and is nice and thick. It's almost like applying a luxurious hair mask. It glides onto the hair smoothly and evenly. After rinsing the conditioning treatment you can instantly feel how hydrated you hair feels. Dying your hair often dehydrates it and your hair can feel a little worse for wear. Clairol's hair dyes are gentle on your hair and the conditioning treatment prevents damage and keeps your hair hydrated and feeling lovely. I have actually used this dye in the past, and can't recommend it enough. The range of colours on offer is wonderful as there is something there for everyone. I have dull brown hair, so usually opt for a warm shade to brighten my colour – I used the Medium Chestnut Brown 5RB. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and after spending 10 mins applying the product as thoroughly as I could, it took a simple 25 minutes to penetrate before washing it out and conditioning. The colour completely covered my greys (which was my main objective), but overall my hair looks so much healthier as it is shiny and the colour has more life to it. My favourite thing about this dye is that the colour brings out the natural highlights I have and it looks really natural. I have very light gray coming in on my sides and wanted to cover it for a bit longer. My natural colour is dark ash blonde. So I chose Revlon 60. I left it on longer as per the instructions for covering gray which it supposedly does 100% and had good hair saturation. And 5 minutes prior to rinsing I combed the remainder through my hair. I'm experienced with box colouring. Result? Red and patchy gray coverage. It's a cheap colour so I shouldn't be surprised. I do not recommend. At all.Jo

I recently purchased 2 boxes of Revlon Colorsilk Honey Blonde #42 and I was disappointed by the products results for my daughter's 3b/c dark brown hair. The product doesnt lift the hair color enough to show and all around color difference on the hair. It was inexpensive and cheap on quality. 2 bottle of the shade wasn't enough. DARK AND LOVELY OR CREME OF NATURE OR FADE RESISTANT BY D/R is far a SUPERIOR product and in my opinion, better quality for African American Hair where you outstanding results and are not cheated out of your money, time, self- esteem. Okay, I purchased this to do my own hair and my extensions. First off, my hair and the extensions were the same color (dark blonde). This dye did NOT turn my hair the same color as it turned the extensions. My hair looks like a dark chestnut brown, now… while my extensions look red. Neither have a plum component, which is the base color highlighted on the box. This isn't burgundy, nor is it deep burgundy. My hair looks awful and the only thing I can do now is dye my hair and extensions a different color. I'm deeply upset about this.Aly B

Go with Excellence. I normally use L’Oréal Excellence but decided to tried something different and tried Preference in same shade I usually use in dark ash brown. Well, Excellence does a better job… Preference faded and washed out from my gray roots. I had to do a double take to make sure I used permanent dye. Well it was! I have partial gray areas I use the dye to cover. I don’t recall having this issue w/ Excellence. If you have gray you’re looking to cover, go with Excellence. More user friendly also since it’s cream based not liquid as well.Target Shopper

I was looking to color my hair auburn which is exactly what this product did. I had medium brown virgin hair with a few grey's. I would suggest to apply the product to the middle and ends of your hair for 15 minutes and only apply to roots for maybe seven minutes. I did get some hot roots in a small patch near the front of my hairline. I will be googling and youtubing how to correct that spot. I would definitely not keep it on my roots for the full 10 minutes the box suggests. There is not alot of multidimension color but there is definitely color change from my medium brown. I think that the product doesn't need to be as strong as it is. I don't know a ton about color, but this company should maybe use a less harsh developer? They are trying to appeal to a large audience, but they are just messing up alot of people haircoloring experience. I read alot of the reviews beforehand so I knew that my hair would go auburn. If someone just picks the box and thinks their hair is gonna have Carmel highlights they are in for a unpleasant surprise.Sarah

I thought the product was magnificent. The one application was enough to cover my entire head from root to end and when my hair is wet it lands on my shoulders and I have naturally curly hair. I have tons of white hair or with some would call grey very heavy in the front. I have been ill and having colored my hair in 6 months. My hair is naturally black but at 55 I want it to go lighter without anything pulling red. The results are absolutely stunning. Again more than enough color cover all my hair from root to end professional disposable gloves that are easy to take on and off, and a great tube of conditioner that can last me for about three applications. This year alone I had red, turquoise, green, purple and some attempts to blonde hair at home. It was extremely damaging to my hair and I could not tone it for dear life. Revlon saved the day! I really want to find their mushroom blonde, I am dying to try it but I used the soft black for my root shadow, it helped with the orange and looked soft and natural. Before caving in to trying the $3.50 hair color I used Ion from Sallys, loreal and garnier olia (which is also good but fades super fast) Also I dampened my roots for a softer root shadow. I made sure to test this product 48 hours before dying my hair to see if I was allergic to it. All in all, I enjoyed dying my hair at home, and I would highly recommend this product, Revlon ColorSilk Permanent Hair Dye, to my family and friends that are interested in dying their hair at home. So I have dark brown Indian hair with grays in the front and temple area.. My hair color is what Caucasian people call being a brunette but it’s not black by any means. I have bought so many different shades of brown from this line from Revlon and other brands hoping to achieve the color that the model on the 20 brown black box have. That’s what my original hair color is. So when I bought number 20 and colored my hair, it turned it to almost black. So I bought lighter shades, some didn’t work at all on my gray hair. The only reason I’m coloring my hair is because it’s gray and I’m not ready for that yet. Yesterday I bought 27 deep rich brown hoping to achieve the brown color it shows on the box and also knowing that it’ll be darker than the box but it would not be black. Unfortunately it’s still too dark for my liking. It covered all my gray but my hair is almost black. Since it’s permanent, I’m not sure it’ll lighten up with washes. Going to try even lighter shades once my gray roots start showing. My roots show after a week or so, so I will look for another color and hopefully get a close match my hair color. I don’t get why they put models with a different shades of hair vs what you actually get. That’s just confusing to me and misrepresentation of the hair color. 3 stars for the cost.Love to shop

PLEASE be aware that this has a chemical called ethanalomine in it. A corrosive and dangerous substitute to ammonia. No harsh chemicals? Bah! I have lost 75% of my hair since I started using this product during the pandemic last year. I have been through rounds of steroids injections to try to bring it back. It has ruined my life. Shame on you Madison Reed. Google "ethanolamine hair loss" and you'll find it causes up to 85% more hair fall than the typical ammonia.UBA

Came out way, way darker than expected. I would describe the color as “soft black” and definitely not “medium brown”. I had to pay a stylist to fix it. I also have been experiencing a significant amount of hair shedding since using this. My stylist confirmed that my hair definitely looks thinner. A bit of Google searching confirmed that this is a common problem and there is even a class action lawsuit in NY over it. Just pay a stylist or use another brand. I am 48-years old and this was the first time I have ever dyed my hair. I was starting to really get grays and wanted to cover them but keep my hair color as close as possible to my natural color. I bought the Sardinia Red and it covered my grays beautifully. It's a little darker than expected indoors but its a very radiant red when you are outside in the sun. I have darker brown hair with reddish highlights (especially in the summer). My family LOVES to hike and backpack. Ticks can sometimes be a problem when we hike and the tiny pests are hard to find amongst my dark hair, so I decided to dye it as light as I can. I got the extra light natural blonde because I thought I'd end up sort of strawberry blonde or light auburn. It did! I also have olive skin, so the strawberry blonde/light auburn hair color looks great on me. It's not blonde, but I started with hair much darker than recommended on the box. Knowing this, I went ahead and dyed my hair. It did NOT turn out orange, as I was guessing it might, but a beautiful reddish blonde that looks great on me. Used the Light Auburn on my gray/white hair and wow, it came out wonderfully. I am 70 and decided I am sick and tired of the gray…wanted something vibrant and stylish (my hair is buzzed on the sides and longer on top) and I got a whole new look. Easy to use, doesn't smell horrible, but the dye does stain the shower upon rinsing, but did wash away with a bleach/ bathroom cleaner…only drawback. The color at least on my hair came out more like a copper-y auburn. (left on the 35 minutes as recommended for this shade) If I went to a salon it would have been pretty expensive..so not only do I love the color, I loved the price.Corey

I have been using this product for several years. I mix two colors and I am happy with the results I get. Going to the salon to have my hair color would cost over $75.00 every 4-6 weeks. The quality of this product is very good. I used the correct concentration of developer to color ratio on a test spot. it did not lift my hair. I haven't been able to achieve HI lift color ( any brand)( and I have tried every brand) on my hair since I have had more grey hair because my dark level 6 has gotten darker with hormonal changes. That being said I believe this product is a good value and is high quality, but unfortunately i cannot use high lift colors on my hair any longer . I went back to my stylist for partial foils with bleach is the only way to lighten my resistant dark hormonal hair and tone the grey highlights to blonde. I didn't even open the hair color box before today…I wanted it to be a cool reveal! Unfortunately, I didn't receive the conditioner or the stain eraser, so this could be considered an "incomplete" result…but I wanted to review what I could. I started out with platinum blonde hair and my roots were growing in silver and dark grey. IGK had it's work cut out for it. The box color was Olsen's (I'm guessing to replicate MK A Olsen), and my hair looks almost too natural blonde!* I can't decide if it lays a color on, or bleaches your hair. Either way, it's a great color to be'naturally blonde' if that's what you're going for. Why the 4 stars instead of 5? Because I had to scramble to find an extra hair coloring kit (to steal the shampoo/conditioner packets) in order to get it washed/conditioned properly… because we all know, a standard conditioner doesn't cut it when you're stressing out your tresses with harsh chemicals no matter how nice it smells. This was my first time trying an IGK hair color product. I found it quite easy to do. The packaging it comes in opens up into a tray that shows you step by step how to instructions. The only thing it didn’t tell was whether your hair should be washed that day or not and I was able to find that info on their site. This product has several steps some of which I was not used to from other brands. It included a barrier gel to put on your forehead and ears to keep from getting dye on your skin. I’ve never seen that before with other brands but it really was a big help. The dye itself was easy to mix and it didn’t have any terrible ammonia smell or anything. It’s thick in consistency so you don’t have to worry about it running much either. After washing out and treating with the conditioning step there is an eraser step which helps with cleanup. That was very nice to have. It easily removed all dye that managed to get on my arms and sink. I will say the shade that was chosen doesn’t really feel like it’s very different that my starting shade. It did however give my hair added depth and tone. I see different highlights and lowlights and my hair is definitely much shinier. My hair even feels softer.This hair color is cruelty free as well as vegan. I was so excited to try IGK’s Permanent Color Kit because they are a cruelty free brand and the product is clean and vegan. My normal hair color is dark brown and I tried the color Back to Brown (5N). To be honest, I had gotten kind of lazy with covering my grays (which somehow seemed to multiply rapidly during the pandemic), so I was in dire need of coloring my hair. The first thing I noticed was that my kit didn’t include gloves, which must’ve been a mistake since the instructions specifically say to put on gloves before applying the color. Since I didn’t want to have my hands stained dark brown, I ended up having to ruin a pair of rubber kitchen gloves, which ended up being pretty bulky and cumbersome during the process. The kit also didn’t include an applicator brush of any kind, but thankfully I happened to have a spare applicator brush from an old dpHUE hair color kit because there’s no way I could work the color through my hair with just the bulky rubber kitchen gloves. My grays are pretty stubborn so I left the color on for over an hour (the instructions say 35 mins but 45 mins for stubborn grays). Aside from the color, the kit included packets of Protect Color Block Barrier Gel, Erase Stain Removing Cleanser, and Post-Color Treatment Mask, which were nice touches. However, the instructions say to cleanse with your favorite IGK shampoo before applying the Treatment Mask, so I was confused why they didn’t include a sample packet of shampoo as well. I didn’t have IGK shampoo on hand at home so I used a different brand of shampoo for color-treated hair instead. Unfortunately, the end result was pretty disappointing. Despite letting the color process for over an hour, the grey coverage was awful. I don’t know if having to use bulky rubber kitchen gloves was to blame, but I could still see plenty of grays peeking through immediately after I completed the process, which you can see in the before and after pics. The missing gloves, lack of applicator brush and shampoo packet are inconvenient but nothing I can’t work through. However, when I don’t even have complete grey coverage afterwards, there’s no point even using this product. There are other cruelty-free brands out there with better results so I wouldn’t recommend this product.kirsten.c

I received Schwarzkopf Keratin Color in 8.0 Medium Blonde from Influenster in return for my honest review. I have used boxed colors in the past but for the past 5 years I have been mixing my own hair color using products from Sally's. My hair was in need of color, so this trial came at a good time. I have never used a color that had a pretreatment for your ends. It was easy to use but I didn't see that it made any difference honestly. I liked the texture of the color itself being a cream instead of liquid like some colors. It had an odor but not strong like many blonde colors. It took a bit to wash it out. I found it odd that I had to towel dry my hair and then put on the conditioner, then wait 3 minutes to wash it out. Overall the color came out nicely but still a little brassy despite the brassy correction conditioner. It did leave my hair a little frizzy and the ends aren't as nice as usual. For a box color it is good though.jessica .b

I received a box of Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Cream for True Blondes and was very pleased with the results! Pre-pandemic I was in the salon for color every two months and never thought I could get good color at home. Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Cream made getting great color at home easy, virtually mess free, and from start to finish, it took about an hour. The instructions are easy to follow and required just a bit of mixing. My hair is a darker blonde with some of red. I used Dark Ash Blonde color and and the color came out great leaving a nice wash of color with no brassiness. My hair was left really shinny and had great dimension. The conditioner packet in the box was an amazing addition because it left my hair feeling really silky and smelling great. I would have loved a slightly larger tube of conditioner since my hair is very long and I only got one use out of it. I can't wait to see how long the color lasts but I would definitely use this Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Cream again.keely.n

Well I'm not a huge fan of the Schwarzkopf Keratin Color 9.1 Light Ash Blonde .😔 I normally keep my hair platinum blonde sometimes I might add another color just for fun. My hair is dry brittle from all the bleaching throughout the years but I've never had any problems with it falling out or frying until now. 😮 I thought it was interesting this kit contained a hair Serum to apply before coloring but other than that, the process isn't any different from the other coloring kits. I applied the Serum and mixed applied the color. I left it on roughly 35 minutes. After I washed it out, I towel dried and added toner . I left the toner on another 2 min. I noticed my hair was unbelievable dry . I added some Nexus conditioner let it set for a few then rinsed. While blow drying, I realized I was gonna have to cut a couple inches off my ends. So that's what I did. I personally am not a fan of this color because it's too gray for me plus there are some purple spots . I also noticed it didn't have a real bad ammonia smell like other color kits or highlighting kits I've had in the past.amanda.h

Pro use only. It’s a beautiful ashy blonde color. It will initially oxidize and look like straight up gray. Don’t panic. To keep it a buck, I did not want the color that Magenta and Red mixed together created. I wanted more of a burgundy color and what I got was something that looks like…sangria. I asked a professional if I were to do the color from a box, if it would create the color I wanted even though I had naturally dark brown, resembling black hair. She said, “YES! Trust me!” And so, I decided to and ended up not getting the color I wanted, 😅. However, there are some pros! -The color is super vibrant. -My hair is not as dry as I thought it’d be. It’s my first time coloring my hair and I thought my hair would be brittle, but it actually felt moisturized after the completion of dying my hair. -I didn’t use bleach and the color still came out very pigmented. You don’t always need bleach, y’all. -My curl pattern hasn’t changed at all and you could see the definition far more now that my hair is red! Overall, this hair dye was pretty good. I wanted to try the Creme of Nature or even Dark and Lovely hair brands due to less harmful chemicals, but my curls still look very healthy and shiny. I’ve currently had the hair dye for a week and the color hasn’t faded at all when I’ve washed my hair at least 3 times. Although this wasn’t the color I wanted, I am warming up to it as it does compliment my skin tone AND I have had strangers stop me and compliment how much they love the color. I would recommend this to a friend, especially a dark haired friend who wants a vibrant color without having to use bleach! Below are two photos of my hair color. I never used this product before and I’m so impressed with the result. The color is so bright and perfect I’m in love of the color. I use two tubes to color my hair because I have a lot of hair and is kind of long, and yes guys I cut off my hair too is not that long as it was but is not too short too. [brand:loreal-excellence-hair-color] is a tool in my hairdressing toolbox! This is the first color that I have used that will lift dark hair color more than a couple shades. Their entire line is meant for this purpose and this purpose only. You do use 40 volume which leaves the hair in a not so healthy condition. But luckily with the help of [brand:olaplex]  This is a thing of the past. They don’t have a huge Selection to choose from but what they do have rocks. I have used the magenta and red hot Together for an amazing combination.amanda.c

Dear L'Oreal, I've been using L'Oreal Excellence hair color 7R Red Penny for many years. Everywhere I go I am complimented on my amazing hair color – the beautiful color, the shine and softness. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that my color was discontinued! I, too, have tried 6R and the color was bland in comparison. I have now been forced to try other brands to try to duplicate the look of 7R, but to no avail. Please, please, please bring Excellence Cream 7R Red Penny back! People (strangers!) have even stopped me in the middle of stores to ask me if my hair color is natural (because it looks so natural) and if not, what product and color I use. I have recommended your product, in particular 7R, to dozens of people! Again, please bring 7R Red Penny back! I used the 5AB color because I wanted to cover my brassy lifted hair and go maybe a shade darker. Make sure you use 10 volume developer not the one they give you if you’re just going darker. If you use the one they give, it will be harsh and lift your hair and you risk having even more red or orange in your hair. I have a really thick head of hair but only ended up using half a bottle since my hair is short. It feels pretty soft and I didn’t lose much hair rinsing it out. We’ll see how it wears! I’m not quite sure what people are doing wrong, but I have used this product for years if not decades to cover up grays. I have black/brown hair with bright white grays and I use the dark brown color. The color lasts for two months . I have no problem with matching- because the color always “reveals” itself at two weeks- which is normal for all box dye in my experience. I love everything about this kit. I purchase extra gloves nitrile, hair dye brushes, cheap butterfly clips and disposable shower caps. I do it on a day where my hair is greasy because I’m about to take a shower (this protects my scalp from the color and my hair from damage). I mix the color and developer together and let it sit while I rub the pretreatment in with my gloved hands. I shake up the color a lot (60 seconds!) and after I see actual color develop I shake it some more and then start applying. I apply to the top of my hair, brushing it in and then I clip that section off. I work in sections, top, sides and back and then let the dye work for 40 minutes from when I finish applying- cover it with a disposable cap so I don’t drip dye everywhere. I use all of the bottle for my shoulder length hair. This is key!!!! You need to let the part of your hair that is seen the most sit for the entire time. I rinse it out with cold water only (gloves!!!) and then add the conditioner (the whole tube) and let it set in my hair for 5 minutes (also in a cap) before rinsing it out with cold water and washing it with color safe shampoo in cold water. I do not apply this with a comb. There is a comb attachment- but I use a brush to spread it on my hair and the comb attachment to spread it on the brush. You want to paint your hair, soaking it with dye. The other trick is that when I shower, I condition first before I shampoo. This keeps the color in more and I get an incredible volume without my hair getting crunchy.tiziny

I didn't approve or ask for this shade! I got starry black. I'm a natural blonde. In order for me to achieve black hair that doesn't turn green after the 1st wash,I would have to do a filler color first like a medium brown. I don't want to put all those chemicals on my hair. Plus I don't want black hair! I DID NOT USE THIS! I have used feria in the past though, I have used their bleaching kit and their auburn, red and black cherry shades. It is the only box dye I will use. It not only has an essential oil you add to it for a better smell but it also helps the hair feel softer and more hydrated as well as look shiny and healthy, well as healthy as dyed hair can look. For a box dye it's not bad. If I had gotten a color I approved of I totally would have used it! My daughter has medium golden brown hair and has been debating allowing me to use this on her. L'Oreal Feria hair dye from Walmart for $9.97 in color Deeply Brown 40! Bought 1 box because there were not any more and no longer have at Sally's! I like the conditioner it comes with in a tube as a thick cream yet it has changed very much! It is less quality and less odor yet still great for cost! The dye is not thick gel it is medium like conditioner for $9.97 worth the value still as it does cover Grey and not a semi- permanent! This permanent hair dye box comes with traditional one box with color; a set of gloves; tiny shine serum; developer; instructions; and the dye! Real easy for shoulder length hair covering with 1 bottle! It lasts several weeks and hair clings to color, vice versa!roseanne .b

Would have given 5 stars except, as others have mentioned, this shade is not a “light” blonde unless in bright, natural light. Indoors or in darker light, it appears dark blonde—so be aware before you use that it may come out looking more like a level 7, not a level 8. I knew this going in but wish they’d re-label their blonde series to match how it actually turns out. Anyways…..

The demi-permanent is easy to use and works almost like a toner—I’d been using T14 toner and, due to the developer, was having problems with it lifting areas of my hair I didn’t want lifted. So I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews on the Wella demi 8a and decided to give it a shot, and it did exactly what I needed it to do—it toned my hair, leaving it a cooler tone but still with a little depth and warmth while leaving my roots alone (no hot roots!).

Will definitely use again but may mix the 10NA and 8A together, as there doesn’t appear to be a level 9 in the demi-permanent line.J W

I was beyond excited when my gi-normous WELLA Colorcharm Demi-Perm Color VoxBox was FINALLY delivered! When I opened it I honesty could not believe ALL the products that were included; 2 boxes of Wella Colorcharm Demi-Permanent Hair Color Cream (3N Meduim Neutral Brown), 1-7.8oz bottle of 10 Volume Wella Cream Developer, 1 application brush, 1 plastic mixing bowl and a pair of gloves to get the job done😉. As far as packaging goes, everything definitely has a salon quality feel to it. The boxes of hair color offer this new color-coded packaging for "at-a-glance navigation and selection," which seriously makes finding your color so easy it's fool proof! Inside each box the color is packaged in a gorgeous teal colored metal tube (much like a toothpaste tube) with white text and a white twist top. The Cream Developer comes in an almost clear, frosted plastic bottle with black and red text on it. Honestly, its packaging really is very minimalistic, no real wow factor. Both the brush and bowl are simple black plastic, nothing is embossed or written on either item. The gloves included are, thankfully, not the plastic bag type of gloves. They are basic "rubber" gloves, nothing fancy…just something to protect your hands. Ok, let's get into the product formulas. What truly has me obsessed with this hair color and makes it so special is that the formula is enriched with Shea Butter! Shea Butter gives you healthy looking color with way less damage because the formula is A LOT gentler on ALL hair textures. Shea Butter is even believed to soften dry, brittle hair and repair split, damaged ends while adding shine to the hair….umm yes please! I mean seriously, who doesn't want that for their hair!? This formula is free of animaphthalatesl derived ingredients, ammonia, gluten and parabens. Not to mention it is EXTREMELY quick and SUUUUPER easy to apply! Which I think is a result of being able to apply this color to WET hair rather than dry so I feel it makes it soooo much easier to work with. Wella also makes a huge emphases on the color's ability to blend grays, gloss, tone, refresh, or enhace your color, and I really feel it did all those things. So to me you really can't go wrong with this color! It smells good, looks awesome, feels amazing and results last up to 24 washes (depending on hair type). I just did it so I can't agree or disagree with the longevity of the color…I will have to update. Also, if you happen to love your current color but just want to make it shine…the Clear shade adds MEGA eye-catching gloss to ANY COLOR…how awesome is that!? I haven't personally used the clear shade yet but are definitely going to in the future! Okay- the burgundy color this dyed my hair was not anything like the description “light copper” nor the examples of vibrant red on the back of the box. I normally have my hair a vibrant red (almost the same as the color shows on the box), so if anything I was hoping to touch up my roots and ends. Unfortunately this was waaaaay off. Now it’s not necessarily “bad” if you’re going for something more natural- but that is definitely not really my style. I also went river rafting the day after dying it and everyone though I was bleeding because of how much color kept coming out when being splashed. I notice red pigment on the sides of my face often if I get super sweaty or wet, and it has been over a week. I will say that as time went on the color became a bit more vibrant, but I think that could have just been my underlying color coming through. Overall I loved that it didn’t stink or damage my hair, and there was plenty of dye in one box to do my whole head- but I will stick with my tried and true Runway Red by Vidal Sassoon.kelly.b

I received this product and was eager to trial it. There’s nothing quite like a colour touch up to make you feel a little more refreshed and energised! The product was super easy to use and everything needed was contained in one compact box. I followed the directions with ease and all progressed to plan. The end result was reasonably true to the desired colour although my hair did end up more orange than I had anticipated. I accept this can happen with hair colours because there are so many factors that contribute to the end result. The hair colour did address my primary concern – covering the dreaded greys! The smell was not offensive as can happen with some brands and I liked the fuss free application process. A major benefit is the convenience of doing this at home at a time that suits me and a cost that is budget friendly! I have had my colour now for a week and the colour at this stage is still looking fresh with great coverage. I would suggest that anyone with thick hair or very long hair should invest in two packets and not chance a dye disaster!! I have long hair but it is very thin so one packet for me was sufficient. I received this hair dye to trial as part of the Beauty Review Crew. I have used this brand of hair dye a few times over the past couple years. In particular, I have used the shade 'Darkest brown' which is the same shade I'm trialing today. The shade has always been is a lovely vibrant colour and the colour result is similar to my natural hair colour. The dye promises to 100% grey hair coverage and it lives up to its promise. Preparing the dye for application is nice and easy. After applying the gloves that are included in the packaging, you pour the colour formula into the bottle of developer before placing the lid back on and shaking the bottle until completely mixed. It's that easy! Then starting at the roots, you evenly apply the dye. The dye goes on smoothly and, surprisingly, the dye scent isn't as strong as other brands. Other brands tend to have a strong chemical smell which makes my eyes water and nose tingle when breathing it in. Clairol have done a great job at producing a hair product with a low scent. One of the best things about Clairol's nice n' easy hair dyes is the short processing times. Unlike other brands that have a processing time of upwards to an hour to reach your desired shade, these dye have an average processing time of just 25 minutes. The short processing time means you can dye your hair during your lunch break, before a night out, or before a date, without it taking up too much of your time. The rinsing process is also quite a smooth and easy process. After applying some warm water, give your hear/head a little massage and then rinse until the water runs clear from all the dye. It normally takes around two minutes for the water to run clear. Then using the conditioning Clairol conditioning treatment that comes with the hair dye, you apply from roots to tips and leave for a couple minutes before rinsing. The conditioning treatment has a lovely scent and is nice and thick. It's almost like applying a luxurious hair mask. It glides onto the hair smoothly and evenly. After rinsing the conditioning treatment you can instantly feel how hydrated you hair feels. Dying your hair often dehydrates it and your hair can feel a little worse for wear. Clairol's hair dyes are gentle on your hair and the conditioning treatment prevents damage and keeps your hair hydrated and feeling lovely. After towel-drying my hair, I blow-dried my hair until was dry. Looking in the mirror you could instantly see how vibrant and lovely the hair colour result was, and it looked and felt really healthy. I am always so very impressed with the results every time and I often get compliments from friends and family members. As my hair grows fairly quickly, I use this product every 2-3 months to help cover grey hairs. Despite dying my hair so regularly, my hair has remained healthy and manageable, and hasn't compromised my hair in any way. The only downside I can mention is that the dye stains your skin. Normally hair spray or acetone on a cotton ball or cotton pad helps remove hair dyes from skin but I found this dye to be lot stronger and barely budged from the skin. I also tried scrubbing with soap and dishwashing detergent but the dye only faded slightly. It took a few days of scubbing before the dye faded completely. The best thing of all about Clairol's Nice n' Easy hair dyes are they cost just $9 from your local supermarket. Sometimes, you can grab them on special for just $6! SIX BUCKS! Staff Review by BC's Tamara I'm not going to lie – I have greys. Lots of them. But the Clairol Nice'n Easy Permanent Hair Dye did a mighty fine job of making them disappear! I have actually used this dye in the past, and can't recommend it enough. The range of colours on offer is wonderful as there is something there for everyone. I have dull brown hair, so usually opt for a warm shade to brighten my colour – I used the Medium Chestnut Brown 5RB. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and after spending 10 mins applying the product as thoroughly as I could, it took a simple 25 minutes to penetrate before washing it out and conditioning. The colour completely covered my greys (which was my main objective), but overall my hair looks so much healthier as it is shiny and the colour has more life to it. My favourite thing about this dye is that the colour brings out the natural highlights I have and it looks really natural. At $12.99 the Clairol Nice'n Easy is a bargain as it is a high quality product and I would recommend it!BC's Tamara C.

My hair was a highly dull off-black with an auburn brown tint from sun exposure. The ends (about 3inches) of my hair was a dark blond from permanent hair dye about 2yrs ago that was still growing out. My hair length is a few inches past my collar bone so I suppose it's medium length. I have high density hair (lots of hair strands) and my hair strands are thick. I would always have to buy 2 boxes of hair dye for my hair because it is so dense. However, I only needed one box of this hair dye and I even had about 1/4 of it left over. The box contains a set of instructions (which are very clear by the way), a sample of their shampoo and conditioner, gloves (which didn't break or tear), hair dye, developer, and an applicator bottle. I personally prefer using a mixing bowl and applicator brush. Next time, I will use those items instead. I parted my hair into six sections and worked one section at a time and started on the roots first throughout my head, then proceeded to the length of my hair. It states to let the dye sit for 20min but considering that my hair is a bit color resistant, I let it sit for about 40 instead. Normally, I wouldn't extend it for this amount of time, but considering this product was natural, I took a chance. I wouldn't recommend you do this but use your personal experience and judgement. The instructions strongly recommend that you do an allergy test (place the hair dye on inner elbow) and watch it over the next 48hrs to see if you will have an allergic reaction before using the hair dye. However, I did not do this. I do have sensitive skin but never had an allergic reaction to any hair dye so I based my decision partly off that. I didn't like the shampoo nor the conditioner that came with it. The shampoo made my hair tangle and it felt like it was stripping my hair. The conditioner wasn't effective in making my hair feel conditioned. The actual hair dye made my hair feel soft becaused it is packed with oils. I still would use the shampoo and conditioner since they are meant to work together after the hair dye process. The hair dye was a COMPLETE SUCCESS! It completely covered my blond ends and the entirety of my head. My hair is now black. I must state that this Poppyseed color (2N) is a NATURAL black so it is NOT jet black. I actually wanted jet black hair but the Vitamin Shoppe that I shopped at didn't have it so I got this instead. Next time, I will definitely be getting the jet black which is called Licorice (1N) which is the darkest shade. I can't wait to do it again!LovelyBreeze

I've been dying my hair for about 33 years…. other brands always left my hair brittle, dried out and stripped… the color didn't make much sense either, no matter how "natural" I tried to look. I was convinced the only thing to do was stop dying my hair and go "naturally gray". Well after 9 months of not dying my hair… there wasn't a whole lot of "gray" to get excited about…it just looked mousy and non descript…and worst of all..juat made me look older. I didn't think I had anything to lose so I tried NaturColor in Mullein Blonde… so close to my childhood hair color. I was so pleasantly surprized. Not only was the color perfect and natural looking, the product itself actually nourished my hair and made it so soft and shiny. I will NEVER stop using this product… it's AMAZING!Donna

The box came with everything I needed for color application as well as after care. Instructions were easy enough to follow. There was enough color to fully saturate my hair. I started with light brown hair and it got it to a dark vibrant black. Washed as instructed and used after care products and my hair did not feel damaged. I have washed it probably close to 10 time and there is minimal fade. Definitely recommend if you are wanting to box dye your hair.wynona.l
