Reviews:
I've borrowed this book in the past and liked it, I felt guilty about having a borrowed copy so bad I finally bought my own copy and I'm glad I did. There is no one to practice with or have as a mentor for a beginner and as a sounding board (no pun intended) for me during this Covid-19 Pandemic, but I'm managing on my own. I just need to practice, practice, practice!dmbo_32
It is better because this 699 pages gave me everything I Must know in order to play guitar satisfactory in a near future. Thanks a lot to Herrluft as well as to ebay.Your are the Best!jkel8220
Background I have never had a music lesson (beyond school) but I can (just about) play a tune on piano by ear (with limited success but still get enjoyment from doing so). Nort can I read music. Becoming a virtuoso ain't gonna happen! I've had my guitar for over twenty years (again NO LESSONS) but have decided to try to learn to play better. Dummies review So far, this "How To" book gets my vote because it is well written without too much emphasis on classical music notation. I am still reading/absorbing it (slowly); so my opinion is changing as I progress. Learning guitar or any instrument (or, for that matter, any physical and mental activity) from a book alone is never going to be easy but I feel this book is a great first step. The concommitant videos are a complete bonus. My inability to play guitar won't be down to the book 😉monty969

I have heard about Dan Erlewine from a friend in 1994, to me he is the best in his area, very simple and understandable and with a full TRUCK of secrets which he likes to share with all of us. I am familiar with his writing and explaining, a lot of photos and setups, reviews and charts. I can say that everyone can benefit from this book, beginner or proffesional. If there where more stars to rate I will give 10!!! Thanks a lot. (I have allready recommend it to a friend) Tedtedkaltsas88

Product Details:
This book tells you everything about making electric guitars following professional standards, phase-by-phase, step-by-step. it's all about leaving your dent in the universe in the shape of the most beautiful, incredibly sounding guitar you can make-that's clear. but building guitars professionally starts before you even cut the wood: you need to setup your workplace, you have to define your identity as guitar maker, and decide the guiding principles of your endeavor as luthier. what kind of guitars will you build? for whom? what is going to be the winning characteristic of your instruments? and then you have to sell the things, of course, so the last part is focused in the marketing process. you will read about positioning your brand, pricing your instruments, photographing them, promoting them, building a great website for your lutherie business, using social networking to show your work to the world, and managing and closing guitar sales. written by renowned luthier leo lospennato (author of the bestseller "electric guitar and bass design") this book represents the new standard in solid-body guitar making, and the only resource that presents both the technical and commercial aspects of the fascinating art of building musical instruments.

There are probably better books on the market for describing how to design and build an electric guitar but what makes this book essential are the sections on marketing guitars. The author offers terrific advice on how to organise your workspace, work efficiently and find a market for your instruments. Sound, practical advice for anyone who wants to try making a living from instruments building. Highly recommended..aubren_7pskc

Product Details:
This compilation brings together three best-selling books that will help you master the essential rudiments of playing the guitar; technique, theory and the application of all the essential scales in music. at over 285 pages, this book contains over 400 notated audio examples and 60 backing tracks that demonstrate every technique, lick and scale clearly in a musical context. beginners to very advanced players will all find plenty of ideas, techniques and musical vocabulary to keep them improving for years. complete technique for modern guitar destroys the notion that aspiring players must spend all their practice time accelerating through progressively more difficult and obscure exercises. this book focuses on only the exercises that most quickly develop the fundamental four areas of guitar technique: picking, legato, playing in time, and expression. it contains over 200 essential, digestible, exercises to help you master the guitar with comprehensive coverage of picking, legato, rhythm and expressive techniques. the practical guide to modern music theory for guitarists is a complete and practical music theory course for guitarists takes you on a journey starting from simple major scale construction, its 3 and 4 note harmonisations, and common chord sequences, to a massively deep and structured dissection of all the modes of the major scale. the seven modes are broken down into their constituent intervals, triads, arpeggios and pentatonic scales, with each theoretical approach discussed and analysed and bought to life with over 200 notated examples, licks and professional backing tracks. after the many soloing possibilities are discussed for each mode, the author's favourite sounds are given as a concise list of recommended approaches. this will save you many hours of practice time, and provide solid starting point to explore the best of each tonality. guitar scales in context goes further than every other scale dictionary available: it provides you with backing tracks and licks for every one of the essential eighteen scales and modes that it covers. with over fifty backing tracks included, each scale is analysed, discussed and shown in the five most commonly used patterns. each scale shape is given with a corresponding chord, triad and arpeggio pattern to help you build and memorise the scale, both physically and aurally.

17. Guitar From Scratch [Book]
Product Details:
In the first scratch book, there is a smattering of theory here and there, but first things first. this is where you'll learn to finger the most common simple chords and to switch back and forth between them in a timely fashion. along the way, it might be nice to see which chords group together in different keys and how to strum and fingerpick these chords using examples from popular music.these books offer a steady flow of information, rather than the hit-and-run school of thought. no gaps, no loose spots, no quantum leaps. the pages have been designed to be inviting to the eye, and not clogged with information. paragraphs are short and the margins are contoured so that the eye is swept along from line to line. thoughts and sentences never spill over onto the next page. instead of relying on standard music notation, these great books emphasize the language of the guitar itself, fretboard diagrams: simply pictures of which strings to hold down at which frets. both tablature and standard notation are presented when they are useful. also included are straightforward educational activities along with easy-to-read graphics. these books lie flat when you place them on a table or music stand.

I bought this book for my 10 y.o. daughter. She said she cannot use DVD because the video lessons on it are "too fast" for her, not enough explanations. Otherwise this is a good book.Oaleks

i dont normally do these review things, but this book helped me so much that i couldn't help it. trying to teach myself to play guitar and just couldn't get it (people in music stores so not helpful!), found this at a bookstore and thought it would help. the price on ebay was better so bought it here. it really is easy to understand and explains the ins and outs of the guitar very well. iv used it so much that the pages are tattered and well used. again, just love this book.nimeny668
I just started playing the guitar 6 months ago. I was looking for something to help me understand how to play music on the guitar. I am not sure that this is the best way to approach learning the guitar but it is full of lots of information. It could be organized a little better. A book that says it's for dummies I assumed was written for the beginner and it should not assume the student or reader knows anything about the subject. There are a lot of websites that will sell you DVD's and online learning which in my opinion is a better way to go. A little more expensive but you really get what you pay for.homeweekends
