Best Canister Vacuum For Hard Floors (2023 Update)

This Kenmore vacuum is a piece of Junk. I would give it zero stars but that is not an option. We had a Kenmore vacuum that was awesome for 20 years before it finally died. We thought we could buy the Kenmore BC4026 as a replacement. Wrong. The vacuum has been redesigned with none of the utility of our previous vacuum. The BC4026 is bulky and heavy making it difficult to get in tight to reach places. The end of the wand has a huge locking mechanism for attachments, which makes it impossible to vacuum along baseboards. I used our old Kenmore to vacuum the car interior, but the BC4026's handle is huge which makes it cumbersome to reach tight car interior spaces. Also, the hose swivel that attaches to the vacuum is not the L-shaped fitting shown on the box, so it does not swivel and keep a low profile like it should. This make maneuvering and storage of the vacuum difficult. They have plastic fittings on the BC4026's telescoping wand that make it difficult to extend. The old design was much better. Our old Kenmore vacuum was smaller and more streamlined with the same vacuum power making it more functional and a better design than the BC4026. Bottom line is that the BC4026 was not designed for its intended purpose of being a household vacuum.Michael

Overall this is a decent canister vacuum but the motorized vacuum head is of an ackward design. In order to vacuum more than a foot under furniture, you have to get down on your knees and move the motorized head in arcs left and right; the joint at which it attaches to the control handle prevents it from moving straight ahead without tilting up so that the agitator and suction end no longer makes contact with the carpet. If you move it to the left, the head may detach due to a poorly designed release lever on the left side; designed to make it easy to remove with your foot but making vacuuming under a bed a long and difficult process to get full coverage. I found myself having to reach repeatedly under the bed to retrieve the disconnected head. I was able to modify that release lever slightly by tightening the screw that attaches it but it is still an arduous task to vacuum under a bed; which was the main reason we bought a canister vacuum! You have to sweep in arcs and make sure you get coverage. This would be difficult for someone who has trouble laying down on their knees, pitching themselves forward and moving the wand back and forth in arcs. On the plus side, the "pet" motorized head is great for vacuuming carpeted stairs; no pet required to make good use of it.Jeffrey

First of all, this vacuum arrived on or ahead of schedule and was packaged very well. I was looking for a lighter, smaller canister vac to replace a Kenmore which I was unable to get repaired after 12 years of good service. I was skittish about purchasing something other than a Kenmore, a brand I have used for appliance purchases for many years, but now they are going out of business. I decided this was the time for a smaller vacuum as I frequently use it upstairs and down. I really wanted to see the vac prior to purchase, but due to Covid and many stores not carrying canisters, I had no choice but to buy online. I was able to get the best price, compared to other retailers, by using my BB&B coupons and purchased the vac as well as the supply of bags and filters. I've had the vac for four months and love it! The suction is awesome, it is lightweight and easy to handle and carry up and down stairs – perfect for my situation. I just changed the bag today for the first time and it was very easy. I do wish the cord were just a bit longer and the control was in the handle, instead of on the vac, but these are not major issues for me. Overall, very happy with my purchase and love shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond!Patricia

My wife and I have had upright vacuums for the last 20 years and were having to replace them every 2-3 years. When it came time to yet again replace an upright because the plastic brush head broke, we looked into the Mieie canister line. Since we had only a couple of rugs , no carpets and mostly hardwood floors, we went with the Classic C1 Turbo Team. It is super quiet and powerful and it's nice to be able to dial down the power, in fact we have never used it on full power. It's also handy to have suction control on the straight wand part, this keeps the Turbo head from sticking on a super low Turkish type rug. Our only regret is not buying a Miele sooner and as an added perk, our dog doesn't bark at the canister like she did the uprights and is tolerating the low noise quite fine.Ron

I purchased this vacuum after reading hundreds of reviews, videos and questions to those I know that own one. I am in LOVE with it! It is one of the quietest vacuums I've ever owned! I have hardwood, area rugs and medium pile carpet in a couple rooms. It made the floors throughout the house pristinely clean! I literally vacuumed the kitchen (vinyl flooring). No more brooms and dust pans for me! My back is very thankful! I didn't get the model that is $100 less because of the carpets and I'm glad I did. I have a hardwood floor attachment and the turbo that I use on my carpets. This is cleaning HEAVEN! It makes things just SO much easier. The extending tube is great to grab any dust on the walls/ceiling and those little cobwebs that magically appear every darned spring! I have a dog who sheds and it got his hair up in the corners and carpet wonderfully! I know this isn't the pet grade one but I plan to upgrade the filter or bag or whatever because it picks up my boy's hair just fine! My sister has one and she uses hers to clean up crumbs and dry spills (salt, seasonings, whatever) from her counters and table! She loves not having the soggy mess to clean with a cloth! (3 teens in her house). All of this to say…BUY IT! If this EVER dies (which I sincerely doubt it will) I will go for the big daddy. Just because…LOLCherylBeee

Moved from Sweden to US a few months ago and was annoyed with the traditional vacuum cleaner we had here, having having to maneuver a heavy and loud motor and not being able to reach underneath furniture. Was driving me crazy and it felt like it was blowing out more dust than it picked up. The Tritan vacuum is very efficient and I was actually surprised by the high quality and power of the motor considering this is not a very expensive machine. It really does the job and with the included attachments it works for any cleaning need. The only downside to it is that I would have liked the electric cord to be a bit longer for better range, but it works well anyway. Many years ago there was a Swedish brand of Vacuum cleaners called "Elektrolux" and they had a slogan "Nothing sucks like an Elektrolux". I would change that now to "Nothing sucks like a Prolux". 🙂Anthony76

I really wanted to love this vacuum, but will have to return it, in spite of the suction being awesome. The suction is as good or better than my Shark vacuums. I needed a good HEPA canister vacuum that would work well on my hard surface floors, window shades/blinds and walls/ceilings. I was disappointed to find that even though there is a HEPA filter, the bags are not HEPA bags. I haven't determined, yet,if the vacuum is sealed well enough, to avoid dispersing dust back into the room. Additionally, the bristles on the hard floor brush are so stiff and scratchy, I am reluctant to use it on my hardwood floors. Unfortunately, none of my better attachments, from my previous vacuums, fit the Tritan. I need to be able to vacuum my walls and ceilings, but the floor brush is not suitable for that either. I would like to be able to comfortably (and safely) vacuum the tops of door frames and window shades and blinds, without using the extension tube. But , the stiff hose does not stretch and is too short to directly attach the dust brush and reach overhead, to the top of my door frames. Back to the drawing board for me, as the Tritan Canister is just not suitable for my needs.C.B.

I am 69 years old, so believe me when I tell you I have had many vacuum cleaners in my life, from a Kirby to a Miele to the less expensive uprights that just don't last. When I moved and left behind my latest upright as a gift to the buyer of my house, I had to find a new vacuum. One that would last. One that could suck up dog hair from my Australian Shepherd. One that was maneuverable and could also clean my truck's interior. When I saw the ad for the Prolux Triton I was taken by how absolutely cute it is. I love its retro looks, like a 50's space ship with chrome and a sleek shape. I love the design of the retractable cord, its maneuverability and the very very powerful motor. I now have a restored vintage house (circa 1900) which requires a strong machine to eliminate dust. I am very pleased with my Prolux Triton!!Vicki

Would be a great vacuum for someone with a small home, they only use this on. I’m not a fan of it because I used it for about 2 weeks and it seriously lost suction in that time. I have to clean it after EVERY room and make sure the filter is perfectly clear for it to have just a bit of the suction it started with. Hopefully I just received a dud and it’s not like this for everyone else who purchases it. I do love the size and convenience of this vacuum, it’s very portable and rolls very easily across any floor, I also love that the attachment is already on the handle and all you have to do is pull it down to use it. It would be great for someone who doesn’t have pets and won’t use it as often as I do.Ashley

The suction for this vacuum cleaner is terrible. It's ok if you want to do a little light cleaning on floors. Not worth the money you pay. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. A waste of money an time using it.Cynthia

My belief – this is a good vacuum which will work well for some. The problem I had is 'inadequate attachments' need for versatility.. It really gives you a rather klutzy poor design floor-rug tool. It needs a robust brush tool with bristles for hard surface floors. The one it has is more 'a small strip with ting bristles that keep it from scratching the floor The floor brush' tool needs to be more substantial and with a robust brush. It has no upholstery or crevice tools it has an inadequate tool that is tiny brush tool. The receptacle tank for the dirt is quite small. I suspect it was this way so that it enhances a more powerful suction action but I am not an engineer to know this. It would help to have a bigger tank. I could not adapt the many attachments I already have from many Vacuums I have because pipe size is unique to this vacuum. I have used an older Eureka The Boss Mighty Mite. It was a terrific powerful vacuum with the normal attachments. Eureka is still a trusted maker and I wished it had the attachments I must have for a more versatile useJames

I am a dog trainer and pet sitter, and cleanliness and sanitation is a top priority in my house. This vacuum has absolutely met all of my needs. The HEPA filter is a must! Pet dander can create a lot of dust, so I love that this Black + Decker model includes such a reliable filter. The wheels on the canister are large and roll easily from room to room. You can even adjust the suction power. When I'm vacuuming dog beds for crumbs and dust, I can turn it down slightly so the fabric doesn't get pulled into the nozzle, but when I'm vacuuming floors, I can turn it to full power and be done quickly. The canister bin is large – I can vacuum my entire home without having to empty it! It's a small thing, but I love the retractable cord, too!MistyKM

My nearly 20-year-old, full-size upright vacuum cleaner died some time ago. Since I bought that vac at a time when I lived in a large, fully-carpeted apartment that was all on a single floor, and I now live in a 3-story home with only two rugs in it, I decided to replace the old upright rather than try to fix it. After all, it was difficult lugging the old upright up and down the stairs and getting at around my home's narrow corners. What I really wanted was a lightweight, compact canister vacuum cleaner with plenty of suction and, hopefully, a quiet motor. I also wanted a vacuum that was easy to use for cleaning my minivan, which was quite a chore with the old upright, even with its hose and tools. Since my wife is asthmatic, it also needed to have a HEPA filter. This Black & Decker model seemed to fit the bill. As you can see from the unboxing photo, my daughter – 14 years old, 4'11" tall and about 100 pounds as of this writing – was able to lift the cleaner out of its box with ease. The manuals included (in several languages each) are pretty clear, but you may not even need them to do the basic assembly, as it involves just attaching the hose, wand and suitable tool to the end of the wand. The plastic thing at the tool end of the wand is a catch release for the wand extender. The third photo I took (I'm not sure what order the photos will appear in when the review is posted) shows everything you get: the power unit, hose, wand, vacuum head, tools and tool bag. I photographed them together to try to give you an idea of perspective. The first down-side I noticed with this vacuum cleaner is that there is no onboard storage for the tools. However, the next photo shows my solution to this problem. The tools come in a handy bag, and the bag has a cinch cord that's long enough to let you loop it around something and pass the bag through the loop. I used that to attach the tool bag to the handle on the main unit. Now my tools shouldn't get lost. This vacuum cleaner is, indeed, quite light. My wife (4'10" tall and with joint problems that make it hard for her to lift heavy items) had no trouble with it. My daughter then carried it up to her room for its first test (see photos). On the way up, we set the vacuum cleaner down on a step, just to see how easy it would be to use this vacuum cleaner to clean a stairway. It actually sits quite nicely, and the stairway in which we checked this has narrower steps than most, so this would seem to be an excellent cleaner to use on stairways, provided the stairway isn't too long. (Cord length could be an issue for some.) I was very interested to see how this model would perform on the rug in my daughter's room, as her rug has a very high pile, almost like an old shag carpet. It seemed to do just fine, although it's hard to be certain because her rug was fairly new and not very dirty. The pile did prevent her from easily pushing the head forward, but she could pull it backward with little trouble. Reducing the suction made it easier to pull, but still didn't allow for pushing, so back-and-forth vacuuming wasn't possible. I ended up turning the suction back to maximum, figuring that this would pull the most dirt out of a high-pile carpet. This model lacks a beater bar, which means it may not be as effective as a fancier model for pulling dirt out of higher-pile carpets. On the other hand, I think one might have to turn the beater bar off for this kind of carpet in order to avoid having it snag the long yarn strands. Your mileage may vary, as the saying goes. I was also pleased to report that this model is rather quiet, for a vacuum cleaner. It was much less noisy than our old upright was, and that upright was one of the quieter models available when we bought it (back in 2002 or so). You probably won't want to use it when the baby is sleeping — unless your baby likes the sound of vacuum cleaners — but you won't need ear protection when using it, either. My daughter and I were talking while she was testing it, and we had no trouble hearing each other, despite the fact that she was wearing headphones at the time. I expect at least decent performance on our other rug, which has a low pile. It would probably do fine on bare floors, too, but we generally stick to brooms and mops for bare floors. Emptying the dustbin is easy: Unclip the canister from the motor, press the latch that releases the lid for the bin, turn the handle and pull the bin assembly apart. This model is bagless, so it would be best to do this over a garbage can in order to avoid spilling the contents on your nice, clean floor. I will sum up this review with some pros and cons. This vacuum cleaner is an expensive piece of plastic junk. I purchased this in October. I doubt it will still be working by the end of this same year. This vacuum cleaner does not glide across the carpet or floor. You have to drag it back and forth. It takes twice as long to vacuum because of the effort and strength required to use this vacuum cleaner. I have a backache after using this vacuum cleaner. The crevice tool looks nothing like the picture of the woman holding it. The crevice tool is only about 4 inches long. The accessories look like they belong in a doll house. Changing from the floor nozzle to the accessories is difficult. The Black & Decker box said you have to buy replacement filters every 6-9 months to maintain suction. So, you have to continuously buy additional products to keep this vacuum working. I did not have to buy any replacement filters for my old vacuum cleaner from Bissell. I only needed to wash it periodically. I would not recommend this vacuum cleaner. I would give it zero stars if I had that option. I wish I could return it for a full refund, but no refunds once the box is opened. I strongly suggest potential buyers examine and test this vacuum cleaner at the store before buying. Best Canister Vacuum on the market. I have purchased several portable canister vacuums and this Oreck is the best! I purchased this for my son who is in construction so he can clean up messes for his customers when he finishes his jobs. He says the vac is so powerful it has picked up wood splinters, sheet rock crumbles, pebbles, broken glass – anything mess that is left over from a construction job. I use it all around the house and in my car. Forget those car vacuums that don't pick up anything. This canister vacuum will even pick up all dog hairs left by my dogs when I take them for rides in my car. And ever try to get dog hair off your couch? This vac has no problem sucking up all the dog hair. Me and my son have been using it for almost a year now and it is still as strong as day 1. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking.E.

I have owned 3 Oreck sweepers for 25+ years. Received my first canister sweeper as a freebie when I purchased my first upright. I loved it for cleaning cars, stairs, windows and around the baseboards in our home. It was light weight but very durable. It was my go-to sweeper for small and quick jobs. The only complaints I have are the red cord… really? why red? and the flexible hose is not long enough for most chores. I had another hose from an older sweeper, my husband had to modify the older hose but now I am much happier with the longer, more flexible hose.Kathy

I have had the old version of the canister and loved it. I decided to give that one to my father and buy this. It is difficult to use.1. the hose always pulls against you – have tried to stretch it out but it doesn't work.2. The friction method of attaching the extension wand does not work as the weight of the wand is too heavy. I kept having to put it back on as it slides off and eventually the end of the wand cracked and needed to be taped.3. The longer cord is great but is too heavy for the weight of the canister itself.4. The strap broke within a month so can't hang it over my shoulder > the little plastic that attaches it – is not strong enough.5. I happened to have had this very same canister, only gray, years ago. It was also stolen from me along w/the upright. The gal that stole this also gave it back after destroying this item. Shame some people have sticky fingers & are malicious…they love to be mean. Anyways when I got my brother the swivel upright I got myself my new canister. Love it dearly…would not want anything but this…it's light weight, can place on your shoulder like a hand bag, move around the room freely & have my other attachments at finger tips.Frances

This was chosen by our cleaning lady. We figured as the main user and cleaning expert we'd let her pick what she wanted. She went right to the Oreck. She's still using it 12 years later. We sometimes use it ourselves for quick pick-ups. I look at it and it appears in the same condition as when new, a dozen years ago. I cannot rate this product yet! I expect it to be as great or better than my last one, but as yet I have not had a chance to use it! I do have a maid, but only ever 6 weeks! I have had too many things come up to use it! I expect it to be wonderful, as my last one was great for around 20 years! This vacuum is the worst vacuum I have ever used. I had the Dyson upright and loved it, but when it was time to replace it we decided to try the canister, because we believed it would be more convenient. For starters, this vacuum does not have a power head, it is a suction head and so if the vacuum loses the slightest amount of suction the brush does not rotate. The hole which connects the floor attachment to the hose is slightly smaller than a marble so it constantly clogs. I have spent more time unclogging this vacuum than any other vacuum I've owned. This vacuum does not clean – it is a very expensive floor duster. We have cats so from time-to-time I will find small pieces of cat kibble on the floor – the vacuum does not pick it up. The list of things this vacuum does not pick up is seemingly endless, but here are a few examples: coffee grounds individual staples crushed egg shells, lint, small pieces of dried leaves in the fall small pieces of paper fine needles from artificial Christmas trees and garland bits of thread bits of wool dried flower petals tiny bits of mud from shoes I've tried vacuuming the cars with this vacuum, but it does not have the suction to pick up the tiny little pieces of lint that collect on the upholstery and floors. Basically, anything larger than sand or dust, this vacuum does not pick up. If you place the vacuum head right over the small item you are trying to vacuum up sometimes you will get lucky and it will pick it up, but if you vacuum up anything larger than a couple of pieces of cat food – the connection between the vacuum head and the hose gets clogged. I have had this vacuum since August 2018 and dread using it every time. I have unclogged it so many time the tip where you insert the screw driver to release the brush from the head is starting to wear. Last night I had enough of this over-priced, novelty item – I was decorating the house for Christmas and had remnants of artificial pine needles all over the floor – the vacuum clogged five times where the vacuum head attaches to the hose and twice where the hose attaches to the canister. After nearly 40 minutes of vacuuming and unclogging the vacuum, I finally dug our old $149 Canadian Tire Shark vacuum out of the storage room and had the floor clean in less than five minutes with no clogs. A $650 vacuum should at the very least be able to compete with a Canadian Tire $149 special. After the nightmare and waste of time I had last night trying to vacuum my living room – I finally had enough with this vacuum and I am dropping it off at the electronic recyclers. This was without a doubt the worst purchase I have ever made. I kept it for two years, because of the cost of it and I didn't want to throw away $650, but I literally cannot deal with this vacuum any longer. I really liked the Dyson upright – it was a bit heavy and cumbersome to use and it was very awkward to vacuum stairs, but it picked up everything I needed it to and it very, very rarely clogged. There is absolutely no comparison between the canister and the upright! I have called customer service and did all the trouble shooting tips, I washed the filter and then bought a replacement filter when that failed. If you have to vacuum more than dust from your floors – do not buy this vacuum. If you are insistent on purchasing a Dyson vacuum – go with the upright!NatalieF

This vacuum makes other vacuumes seem like garbage created in back alleys by neanderthals that started a vacuum business, like they're lies an imitation of vacuum technology. Stop wasting your money on hundred and something dollar vacuums every year or two and hating them the whole time as they don't really clean your floor cuz their suction never really sucked and you sit on the floor and unclog them all the time. Just buy this vacuum! they have a 14 day full refund return policy if you don't feel it is superior enough to be worth its price tag believe me it is. Check on price match. if it's not on sale haven't seen it for more than $100 off. Might think it's crazy to spend so much but it's that much better the other ones are crap made by tricky robbers. Sure it is an investment but you will be so blown away by the quality of how well it works I bet you won't return it and you'll see it as an investment because you know how the other ones just break so might as well invest and have it last for 5 years and enjoy your vacuuming experience. Easy to use everything's in its place simple powerful puts other vacuums to shame it should be illegal to sell the other vacuums it's literally like stealing your money whenever you compare it to this vacuum. a vacuum is an investment that should work well that helps keep your family healthy and safe it shouldn't break every couple years like the last few uprights I bought I also feel like the fact this is a canister vacuum is just a much better design as well but I think any Dyson is going to just bring it as far as vacuuming goes the other vacuums literally do not seem like Vacuums in comparison I can't stress that enough. It looks like it's kind of big in the picture but it's not it's nice and Compact but has a big enough canister and it's got handles where it should and slots for everything and all the attachments you would need without going overboard secure don't fall off when you're not using them which has happened with the attachments on other vacuums quite annoying. I mean you will want to vacuum more if you have this vacuum you will want to clean your floor completely just to see it like clean stuff it is fun too use! It is bafflingly silent it is the quietest vacuum on the planet you could probably vacuum with this vacuum in the same room with a sleeping person and the person would not wake up. Almost forgot whenever you vacuum and you maybe vacuumed up something that might be a little larger such as a penny let's say and you know how you usually hear the penny kind of Slam around the corner is it goes in this literally doesn't Slam at all it just gets vacuumed in it doesn't sound like it's getting hit at all or damaging your vacuum in anyway which is very comforting the vacuum is doing its job not asking you to pre clean smaller items before you vacuum.Zeldarocks

I’ve had mine for three years and I love it as much as when I first got it. I have to say this works best for hardwoods or other hard flooring. I got one for my mom and her housekeeper said it hurt jar back but she used it for carpets. I wouldn’t recommend it for that. If they advertised it for wood floors I think it would have a rating of 5 stars. I have all hard flooring and it is fantastic. It basically dusts the floor with the rotary tool. It just glides behind me with little or no effort. It has so much reach. It cleans everywhere, cracks, corners, underneath the bed, ceiling fans. I can vacuum the house in no time. To me it is so much better than the stick vacs. You don’t have to hold the weight and you can do the entire house and never loose power. I would definitely recommend this for hard floors!!!LisaSt

I have owned one for 17 years and it has been the best cleaning tool I have ever owned. I have used it in so many cleaning scenarios including vacuuming up major ant infestations many times. I have used it up high on ladders which makes the strap very handy, and when I broke the cord (my fault), I liked it so much that I had it repaired with a new one. It has way better suction than any modern handheld vacuum, and the extra long cord is very helpful as well. This is the vacuum for cleaning warriors like me !!Eradicator

I love this little canister vacuum. I use it for so many jobs around the house that I used to avoid doing. It is great to clean my car, plus I love using it on the steps in my house. The strap is great and the canister is so light. I clean the corners of ceilings to get cobwebs, vent covers, and my window sills. It is a great little vacuum for odd jobs around the house.Joey

my mother has one she bought from a professional vacuum store and it worked great actually beyond great it was awesome. so much I went to amazon to see if they sold it and yes they did. I had it in just a few days. well to my surprise it was not the same product. JUST the hose part is different everything else is the same. the hose that was sent to me is a very hard plastic hose which makes it hard to maneuver. i was not happy that they changed the hose to this new hard plastic. I will reach out to the company directly to see if they can send me the OLD flexible hose which I loved.Hulagirl

My husband and I are tall people, I absolutely love the fact that this canister vacuum has a long nozzle where I don't feel like I'm leaning over too much to vacuum the floor. It's very quiet, you can still have a conversation with it running. The turbo suction is no joke, be careful it'll eat your rug easily, learned there are different settings for the suction amount! Love that the floor head is much larger than the other leading brands. I also have allergies, so this HEPA filtration system is a a bonus to help keep our inside air clean. My only suggestion for future models is to have an option for on/off switch to be on the handle too. You always have to use the foot switch for operation, for older folks it's a long of bending down for operation. Overall so glad we invested the money to get this great vacuum!Faith D

Pros: Variable levels of suction for different surfaces. Easy to switch between hard floors and carpet. Telescopic nozzle length with swivel great to adapt for tall people and also totally amazing for hoovering under the sofa. Neat and tidy design with extra tools inside.Bag easy to replace. Pros: This is a great vacuum cleaner, I needed a replacement for my previous Vax cleaner – for hoovering out the garage and our cars. The VAX was great but after seven years it was falling apart. I have previously purchased some cheaper cyclone type hoovers which turned out to be useless. So I went for a Miele this time even though it is a bagged type vacuum cleaner, decision based on the quality of the brand and that Curry’s PC World were doing a really cheap deal on this model. It’s very powerful on maximum setting and it does a great cleaning job on the cars. The three wheels on the bottom make moving the vacuum cleaner around the garage easy. The cable return spring is really powerful, far better than any other hoover I’ve had. This cleaner is an all round high quality item. Cons: It’s a fantastic quality hoover and really powerful, however I find that the hose quite often can hit the on off button and that is enough to switch the device off. The button needs to be a little bit stiffer in operation I think.Colin

Got this because my wife loves purple. No greater reason to buy a vacuum cleaner than the color. It works great on non-carpeted floors but is impossible to move on carpet. Good thing it's for a home without carpet. Everything works fine except the hose falls apart. You are vacuuming away and suddenly the head is on the floor and you are pushing an incomplete hose. I fixed that with a piece of masking tape around the top of the head piece. Shouldn't have to gerry rig a new vacuum in my opinion.No Body You Know!

I always used Bissell canisters for the easy conversion and parts sharing between machines(since we use them a lot). As Bissells age, the motors naturally get a bit less efficient, and that's expected. The Bissell Zing was a huge mistake. I had to duct tape all of the extension hose connections just to use it at all. Now I can't use it for small crevice jobs unless I rip it all off and retape constantly. It needs a click and lock function on the extension adaptors. It may not be as much of an issue as it ages and it can't lift a cotton ball, but new, it has suction that rips the plain plastic extensions that attach the heads, off onto the floor. I'm going to go with a more pricey manufacturer now. This Green thing is going in the garbage. I had a feeling the price was too good to be true. If you have a roll of duct tape and never plan on using the extensions and only use floor head, or never plan to use extensions and floor head, it will be fine for you and has great suction for that. If you need to ever use the floor features, it may be irritating and require taping. OH LOOK, MADE IN CHINA. Now everything makes sense.Brandy Lewis

I love the Bissell Zing. For the money it works very well. My only complaints are that it is all plastic. While it makes the vacuum light, its durability is questionable. Also the hose has no way of staying on to the floor tool. You push it on and hope for the best. I can see this being a problem in time and also a frustration. One other thing, the electric cord is very short. For the cost in todays world it is very good but you barley get what you pay for these days! My expectations aren't very high! I wish there was a company that would take pride in the fact that they give the consumer a well made product, at a fair cost, that would last longer then a year. I know, by doing this you wouldn't make huge profits but you would still make healthy profits and loyal customers! It would also help the environment with keeping waste at a minimum! I just bought this when my old shop vac (starts with a C) motor bearing burned out (it started to scream and smell). It has great vacuum and moves a lot of air for a shop vac. I will use this under my drill press, but also use it with my router table and wood shaper to keep sawdust down. I like that it comes with a 10 foot power cord, so extension cord is not needed any more and I can move it about without unplugging it. I also like it has a 2" hose instead of the 1.25" hose (most of the Bauer shop vacs have the bigger hose) and was a requirement for the aforementioned tools. Pretty good for the discounted price of $100. Assembly was very simple- 4 screws, one per wheel. Most of the accessories are in the tank. I hope this has better reliability than my C shop-vac. (I no longer buy "C" products because of poor bearings) Note that the tank is 14 gallons, but actual debris capacity is probably half that after the filter is inserted, but that is true for all shop vacs.Delaware Dave

We now have a dog which means both mine and my wife's car require deep cleaning. I had been using an old household vacuum cleaner that I had stationed in the garage but it became clearer to me that I couldn't pick-up all the dried food bits and dog hair with that vacuum cleaner. The Bauer Wet/Dry Vac is probably twice as powerful as my old home vacuum cleaner! It cleans out our cars so much better! I also plan to use it to clean out the ash from my Traeger smoker and suck-out the leaves that have been collecting inside my home A/C condenser. I only wish Bauer also provided a smaller crevice tool that can more easily access under and next to my car seats.Don E

I used mine on a daily basis. You can not beat it for the money. I use mine for hot tub drain and cleans. This vacuum is large enough to hold all the water my drain pump can’t get and strong enough to pull the water out the plumbing, even on the larger hot tubs with 60+ jets. I also run mine with out any of the filters and am constantly using it to drain water with extremely high bromine (chlorine) and both acidic and super hard water. I beat mine up and I still get 200+ drain and cleans out of it before the motor starts to weaken. I’m sure if I was nicer to them I could get it to last much longer. The fact that it lasts as long as it does with the way I abuse it says a lot about how well it’s built. I’ll be back for another when I blow this one up.Hot Tub Service Pros

Bought this as a gift, it was pretty quiet which was nice but we found out it was quiet because the suction was lacking straight out of the box. After trying to use it 2 or 3 times, giving the vacuum a fighting chance… the decision was made it needed to be returned. Spits dirt everywhere, and constantly plugs with nothing actually clogging it – so you have to shake it every 2 minutes. Super, super frustrating. Cleaned it all out before returning, then decided to give it a shot for myself on vinyl floors. Same thing. Quiet, randomly "clogging" with nothing in it. I touched the side of the vacuum, and it was extremely hot. Looked it over once more, and noticed the filter in the side wheel was MELTING. I tried returning it to the store after lockdown was over, as I bought it a day or two prior to the start (Ontario,) but the woman said no and didn't care the return window ended DURING lockdown?! Have called back to speak to a store manager, who informed me to just return it when I could and try to before Christmas. Glad the manager was able to help me out over the phone, but hoping I won't have any issues in store when I go in – especially after seeing the product is so defective it is melting internally. Pros: This Dyson has such strong suction, much more than any model I have ever tried before. You can actually see the carpet lifting off the floor it's so strong. There is a suction release trigger on the handle which lets some of the air out making moving the sweeper easier, although this means it's not cleaning as well.There are 2 levels of suction, changed using the + and – slider on the top of the sweeper. When it's on the + option, the suction is even stronger. The actual engine part isn't that heavy and followed me around with ease.There are 2 little attachment tools to get into small areas, these click on very easily. One is a long thin nozzle with the option of using a brush on it and the other is a flatter one suitable for fabrics, upholstery etc. These come with a holder so they can attach to the long arm making for easier access when moving around.The dirt bin is large and can hold quite a lot. Emptying the dirt out is very easy, you press a button and the bin pops out. Then press another button on the bin to release the door and dirt falls out. The filter also just lifts out of the bin so cleaning that will be easy too.The handle on the engine is very comfortable and stable. Cons: The suction is so strong that it makes vacuuming really hard work, trying to move the sweeper across the floor back and forward really takes a lot of strength and effort. As I have a bad back this makes vacuuming painful for me. Although if the suction release trigger is pulled it makes it a lot easier (but less cleaning).Also, I am tall and therefore have the arm fully extended. I feel that this makes the arm feel less stable and also difficult to manoeuvre. Storing this model takes up a lot more room that the handheld unit or the traditional upright models.Lisa

Pros: I was really excited to try my new dyson and it didn't disappoint! It has a very sleek design and a long handle/tube making it easy to reach up high to do ceilings, light fittings, curtain rails etc. Its actually one of the best hoovers I've used suction-wise, yet despite its power, it is lightweight and so easily maneouvrable, (essential for me as I'm partially disabled and usually find uprights too hard to push and cylinders too heavy to drag). The tools make doing the stairs a doddle and the multi-floor head adjusts itself depending whether you're vacuuming carpet/lino/tiles/laminate etc.The clear dust collection receptacle has a max line so you can see the dust and fluff accumulating and is easily detached for emptying when full. It can be emptied and clicked back into place in seconds without the effort or expense of fiddly bags and filters to replace. Great for picking up pet hairs, I was really surprised at how much it collected compared with my previous cat/dog cylinder hoover. A quick rewind cord mechanism makes it very easy to pack away and store without a flex/cord to worry about.Overall a very good cleaner. So much so that my hubby had a go too and didn't complain and thats always a plus for us ladies!! NB Not sure that Dyson would claim this is the case with every man but it worked with mine 😉 Really happy with it. Cons: The only criticism I would have is that once you clip the hose onto the body for storage it seems to take up quite a bit of room so is therefore easier to store with the tube/head stood beside it rather than actually attached.Stephanie

When I received a call to test the new Dyson Ball, I was reluctant. I think the caller was surprised! But in all honesty after my back surgery, unfortunately I’ve found it a daunting task to vacuum. Moving the vacuum cleaner around, lifting it to change directions and overall manging to vacuum without being left in scrutinising back pain was impossible. I stopped using the vacuum cleaner and although it was painful to watch my children and husband vacuumed, I had no choice! After speaking to the caller and secretly, desperately wanting to find a vacuum cleaner that caused less/no back pain, I agreed to test the Dyson Ball. I used it several times before writing this review as I was sceptical and did not want other people out there with back pain to try something that could potentially cause further pain. I was pleasantly surprised! On my first use of the Dyson Ball, I managed to vacuum a complete room without any back pain. I found the Ball to be brilliant, easy to move and overall light to carry. I could move the Dyson Ball around without difficulty and the self-adjusting cleaner head is fantastic, which meant I had to do less physically. So, on using the Ball the third time, I continued through the living room, hall and kitchen, on different surfaces without any stress, pain or having to call the children to help complete the vacuuming! After using it for a couple of weeks, on several occasions. I am happy to recommend the Dyson Ball to all, including people like me who suffer from back problems and want a ‘Back Friendly Ball’, to vacuum with! I bought this about a years ago. LOVED it at first, made my life a lot easier. Then it came time to buy filters…ok. Nope, can't purchase them at the store. Or online except to go directly to the Bissell website….ok. When I first found them they were out of stock-grrrr! Finally sent them to me. EXPENSIVE! It seems that the directions are quite misleading. If you don't change the framed paper filter quite often, it will not suck. You must change the foam filter EVERY TIME you vac a room-which is not that big of a deal since it only holds a SMALL amount of dust/dirt anyway so you must dump after each room you do. About 6 months in it started to loose suction. I have taken it apart,cleaned and done everything I can and it still will not vac floors anymore. You can use the hose and get corners, edges, sofas, etc but that's all. Very disappointed in the vacuum itself and Walmart for not stocking the filters you need to keep this going. Great price but for a vacuum you can only use for 6 months, it's no bargain!AW

The dirt the vaccum collects must pass around a very narrow half circle path around the top of the dirt bucket then through a 1"x1" opening to get into the dirt bucket itself. What doesn't clog in the first narrow half circle path clogs in the tiny opening to the dust bucket. When people say they have to stop and clear it all out every 5 minutes they're not kidding. And that's not on dirty floors! I can't imagine how bad it would be if the floors were actually dirty.Terri

Oh my goodness. I've been a housewife for nearly 30 years and I've spent countless hours vacuuming my home. I have never loved a vacuum before….EVER. This new Miele is a magnificent machine. First of all it's beautiful. It is designed so well. Every part clicks into place with such easy precision. Every part is very easily accessible and well made. The controls on the handles are genius. Pure genius. And performance?? WOW. Its quiet. There is NO smell or odor or dust when I vacuum!! I didn't realize all of these years how much my past vacuums put out dirt,dust,smells…YUCK! I'm 52 years old and I can vividly remember the smell that would come from our very expensive Kirby vacuum from my childhood. It always smelled like our dog….ewww! I'm so happy with my Miele that I have yet to put it away! I've used it everyday since it arrived and I love to just look at it! The retractable cord works seamlessly. The wand holders on the unit are fabulous. The power head brings tears to my eyes…..all of the choices for power level and height are wonderful. My home is 95% wood floors and we have many area rugs. I used to hate having to use different vacuums to clean either the wood floors or the rugs. Now my problem is solved. Instead of dreading vacuuming I'm delighted to plug in my miele!!!jewelrymama

It’s a transition for me to not see what I’ve picked up and wait for an indicator light to tell me when to change the bag, but I look forward to it! I previously had a bagless canister with another maker. The cord on this one practically gets me through my house. I was surprised how long it is. I was excited about the light, but it’s not what I expected because the light I needed was for the hard floors and it is only on the carpet attachment. Don’t get me wrong, as I love this vacuum! This is by far the very best vacuum I have ever owned and I suspect I will not have to buy another one again. The Uniq not only has strong suction, it also has suction control which allows me to fine tune the suction based on what I am cleaning. This vacuum is extremely quiet, so much so that I can use it in the early morning and not wake up my children. The bags are large and go a long way. Lots of finger tip controls and height adjustments for the big power head. It really does make my life easier when using this vacuum. I feel spoiled by my Miele UniQ but I am worth it.Elsa

How quiet is this vacuum? I'll tell you. When I first moved into my condo, I was stunned at how well I could hear the vacuums of my downstairs and next-door neighbors, which meant that they would also be disturbed by my noisy vacuum as well. But from upstairs, I never heard a vacuum; all I could hear was an occasional gentle swishing that sounded like somebody was using an old-fashioned carpet sweeper, which I thought was unlikely, as they had a dog who shed a lot. I later became friends with those neighbors and started swapping pet-sitting duties with them when either of us would go out of town. That was when I discovered that the reason I never heard a vacuum from up there was because they owned a Miele canister vacuum. I would often use that Miele to vacuum up their dog's hair so they could come home to clean floors after a long trip, and I came to love that almost silent and easily-maneuverable canister powerhouse. I envied them having that Miele, but at the time, I had only recently (and regretfully) purchased a noisy and annoying upright vacuum, so I couldn't justify investing in a Miele so soon after buying the upright. But it didn't take long for me to lose patience with my vacuum, failing to see the point in its HEPA filter when you have to empty the dust receptacle after every cleaning, which then releases a certain amount of dust right back into the environment. It may seem handy that those types of bagless vacuums have parts that can be dismantled, removed and washed, but the downside is that those parts HAVE to be thoroughly cleaned on a regular basis to maintain their efficacy, which is a dirty, dusty and annoying undertaking. So, I finally chucked the upright and treated myself to this Miele model, and I couldn't be happier. It provides an extremely effective clean and requires no more than removing and disposing of a filled bag and inserting a new bag. Worth every penny!Willabella1023

When I purchased this vacuum, it was the best, most powerful vacuum I have every owned. However, after having only used it 8-10 times, it broke. The floorbrush stopped working. I called Miele and was shocked when they refused to honor their manufacturer warranty because it was not purchased at a Miele store. When I called the Miele store in my area for advice about the vacuum they stated that Miele products do not work well if you have pets. (they even said the pet vacuum they sell does not handle fur either) I was surprised by this but appreciated their honesty. Long story short, if you have pets and/or carpet this is not the vacuum for you. If you think you might ever need help with a part or need the assistance of their customer service dept, this is not the company for you. I sent a complaint to the better business bureau about them and sadly, found myself in good company with numerous other complaints about them. The Better Business Bureau rates them an F. If you like using a canister vacuum or are thinking of getting rid of a heavy upright or other vacuum, then this is the one to purchase if it meets your cleaning needs. I've had other much more expensive Miele canister models in the past with more bells and whistles, but as far as suction goes, every Miele canister vacuum has the same motor. I found this particular Miele model was the lightest and smallest Miele canister vacuum I've used making it extremely easy to operate and store and pull out whenever I need it for even the smallest of messes. I've done a ton of research on many brands and many different Miele models before making this purchase. When choosing the correct Miele canister vacuum it is all about your home and your cleaning needs. This model is perfect for hardwood floors and low-pile to mid-pile carpeting/rugs and everything above the floor. I'm pleasantly surprised how well the air driven turbo carpet nozzle cleans and how easy and light it is to push around on area rugs and wall-to-wall carpeting. Although the turbo nozzle isn't as wide as an electric power nozzle or upright vacuum's cleaning path, the turbo nozzle also has a great benefit of allowing it to reach in tight places like between chairs under beds and in-between many tight places and furniture. I recommend opening the air flow valve on top of the turbo nozzle and setting the motor speed dial on the canister NOT to the highest level when using the turbo nozzle on carpets and rugs. I have a cat and with these settings, the turbo nozzle really does a great job of picking up dirt and cat hair on my carpets & rugs and with minimal pushing and pulling effort on my part. For bare floor cleaning, use the included bare floor tool with the motor speed dial on the canister to the highest level. I find this Miele canister vacuum model is extremely easy to operate and works well if you use the correct settings. It is true that an electric powered carpet nozzle offered on other higher-end more expensive Miele canisters might work better for certain jobs, but with low-pile and mid-pile carpets like the ones I have and living in a relatively small home, this model is perfect choice for us and cleans extremely well. Also keep in mind that Miele models with the electric power nozzle have much heavier hoses, heavier hose handles that are awkward for above the floor cleaning/dusting, heavier carpet nozzles, and heavier wands that make cleaning more difficult because of the weight (especially when cleaning above the floor or carrying the vacuum to multiple floors). You will not have weight issues with this model. The only cons I have for this model is that even though it is a lower-end Miele canister with less bells and whistles than other Miele canister models is that it is still a Miele and it is kind of expensive, however you do get what you pay for and that is quality I can feel with every use and hopefully this quality will last for years (I believe the motor has a 7 year warranty from Miele). Also, the cord could be longer, the bags could be bigger and less expensive (however, I would never go with a bagless vacuum again because of the mess and dust seeping back into the air. Miele bags are of the highest quality), and it would be nice if the tools had a place for storage inside the canister, but this might make the weight of the vacuum heavier so I can easily live without on-board tool storage. Overall, I've tried and owned many other types of vacuums including bagged and bagless uprights / canisters with and without electric power nozzles, stick vacuums, and a central vacuum that was built into a house I once owned. By far, this has been the lightest and easiest to use vacuum I've owned and it far exceeds all of my cleaning needs and the canister is totally sealed locking in all of the dust and allergens (A sealed Miele is really terrific if you have allergies or don't want dust to resettle on your furniture after cleaning). At one time all Miele vacuums were made and assembled in Germany and that always meant great quality. Although this model is assembled in China, parts and design are from Germany. If you have multiple pets, a large home, lots and lots of wall-to-wall carpeting, and carpeting that is shag or high-pile, then this Miele model may not be for you…Rusty B

I bought this machine a few weeks ago to replace a Miele' Cat and Dog' vacuum cleaner I had for years. I only use a larger vacuum cleaner to vacuum once per week to do the while house, then I use my hand held vacuum for interim maintenance ! I just wanted just a good workhorse with few frills. I also don't have pets so and my children are older and less messy so thought I didn't need the more expensive version again Unfortunately this cleaner is too heavy for me to easily use. When hoovering carpets the forward motion is fine but it is very difficult to pull the head back towards you except when the machine is in the lowest suction setting – which then doesn't then pick up everything from the carpets. It is easy to use on wood and tile floors – but since most of my house is carpeted that is a problem. I asked my 22 year old rugby playing son to vacume our house and he described the activity as 'having a good workout'!Siobhan

I bought this to replace an older model that had worked well for many years but the motor had failed. The plus points are the price and the light weight. But in other respects it is a poor replacement for its predecessor. I found the connectors for joining the various bits together do not glide smoothly, so it is all quite stiff and difficult to put together and take apart. It was so stiff that I only realised that the suction tube was telescopic when I read it in the instruction manual. Luckily parts were interchangeable with my old model so I've switched back using parts from my original which has given me more flexibility. Also, on both this model and another model I tried, the suction on the main floor attachment is so strong that it is really hard to push across carpets, even on low settings. The final thing is that the attachments do not store neatly in the body of the cleaner but are stored separately so the whole thing is a lot messier to store and more complicated to carry around. Perfect vacuum cleaner, easy and light to move around. It is a bit bulky and the length of the plug could be a bit longer, but I am still very happy with it overall. My previous vacuum (different brand) was much more expensive and was difficult/tiring to manoeuvre. I have added a "Turbo Dust Interceptor" (dust is diverted into a tube for easy disposal and saves space in the bag) and it works perfectly well!Paige

This is to replace my first upright vacuum (a Dyson). I just never got used to it having decades of canister vacuum experience. The upright had good power and did floors very nicely but I had issues with the pull out extension. I considered other bagless vacuums but because I like the Dyson upright performance I opted to get this new CY18 canister and it is impressive. It has lots of suction and is one of the quietest vacuums I have owned. I can use the tools directly attached to the flexible hose handle which is what I wanted and it follows like a well mannered dog on a leash unlike my last canister was just the opposite and fought me every inch of the way. I vacuumed the whole house as soon as I got it and it's always surprising how much fine dirt these things pick up.g_ldboise

First, I should say that I am the mother of four fur babies, 2 cats and 2 big dogs. Then, when my boyfriend stays over on the weekends, he adds his 2 more dogs (one big and one small) to the mix. Between the 6 animals and my long hair, you can imagine how much hair is on my floors at any given time. For my entire life, growing up at home and after I moved out, I have always used a shop vac with a pool hose and a long metal pole with a brush head; which my dad created. We always hated the awkwardness of upright vacuums and the spinning heads just never worked on hard floors. After buying shop vacs every few years, because they are cheap and the motor blows, I decided to try the Dyson Cinetic Animal Canister. Thankfully, Dyson was offering $100 off; then with my BB&B coupon and cashback credit card bonuses, I ended up getting this thing for the same price as a normal vacuum costs. After one use, I completely fell in love with this machine! There are some flaws, but the good outweighs the bad in my book. Here are a list of pros and cons that I have encountered while using this machine over the past few months. Pros: • Whole-machine HEPA filtration and Certified asthma & allergy friendly! Woo no smells from the expelled air! My boyfriend really appreciates this aspect! He has horrible allergies, especially because of the cats. After purchasing this vacuum, he can breathe so much better at my house! • No filters to wash or buy! • Holy suction Batman! This thing is crazy powerful. • Suction release trigger for when it eats something it shouldn’t, like curtains. • Tangle free turbine tool worked so well that my boyfriend wanted to vacuum the cats with it! Don’t worry, I didn’t let him. This think works wonders on the carpeted cat-stle (what I call the cat castle or cat tree). • Long wand for hard to reach places. • Everything detaches so easily and the tools fit anywhere on the hose or wand. This makes it so simple to go from top to bottom, vacuuming everything in the room. I can do the ceilings, vents, fans, curtains, windows, base boards and floors! • 21.3 ft power cord and automatic rewind…amazing. • Light weight (because you are only having to lift the wand and attachments, not the entire machine. • Can get under furniture and those hard to reach places…like the ceiling! Good luck trying to get your upright vacuum on the ceiling….or the fans. • I don’t have carpet, and I don’t know who in their right mind would have carpet with animals, but the vacuum worked just fine on my low pile rugs. • Some people say that this thing is awkward to pull around because it is a canister. While that is probably true for someone who typically uses an upright, it is way better than the shop vacs that I have had. I don’t find this thing awkward at all, but I am use to pulling behind a canister. Cons: • Canister waaaaaay to small. To give you an idea, I vacuumed my 1400sq ft home, with one weeks worth of hair and needed to empty the bin 5 times. I wish it was bigger and held more. To combat this, I take my big janitor mop (the ones they use in schools), push it around the house for literally a minute. Then I vacuum. This allows me to pick up the hair and big debris (because my dogs have these big plastic bones that they chew) all at once so that I only have to empty the vacuum once. My boyfriend thinks that a vacuum that is so expensive should require no prep work, but I honestly did this with my shop vac too. It makes vacuuming so much easier and quicker. • Emptying the bin is not as simple as they make you believe. Yes, you push the button, but the door swings down and hangs in the way. The dirt gets all over the hanging door. Then you have to use the provided tool to unstick the hair from the sides of the canister, while the door flaps in your way. The instructions say to minimize dust/allergen contact, encase the bin tightly in a plastic bag. Well this doesn’t work because the above happens. I found the easiest way to empty the bin is to go outside to my large garbage can. • The combination tool is a horrible design. Instead of being two pieces, the small brush slides up and down on the thin wand. I wish the small brush was detachable, because when I use the thin wand to get in cracks (like between the couch cushions), the brush is in the way and the bristles get destroyed. • The wheels on the bottom of the canister roll ok, but for the ridiculous price of the machine, they suck. They should have used the same material as you would find on rollerblade wheels. • Instead of being power controlled, the rotating head rotates due to the suction. I wish there was a way to lock the head in place so that it does not rotate. It sucks up cat litter with no problem, but sometimes, it flings a few pieces out. I typically just detach the head and just use the suction. I think I might buy the alternate head that doesn’t spin. • I found the attachment storage to be random and awkward. Ok I broke down and purchased a Dyson after reading many positive reviews but to be honest this vacuum has not won me over in the last 9 months. The suction is adequate but I am not impressed with the turbo brush on carpets. I have hardwood floors with area rugs in most rooms and the articulating hard floor tool is excellent and mandatory for cleaning in my estimation. The cord is a good length and the tools are well designed and work well. I have to empty the bin once or twice while cleaning 1400 sq. foot home. I have come to dislike emptying the bin. The dirt and dust seems to cling to the bin like there is an electrostatic charge on the plastic and I have to use a paintbrush to get it moderately clean or wash it the sink to get it really clean. After a lifetime of using a bagged vacuum where you just change a bag I fear this bag-less vacuum is just not my cup of tea. I only wished I brought this back in the return timeframe and selected another brand/machine!Telrandy

Bought this off the Bissell site thinking it was the best canister and that the design would nail what customers who actually vacuum need. This machine came promptly and is light weight, but has a smaller head and bagless chamber than the one I was replacing. Assembly was easy, yet directions were scant. After using it twice I realized the main handle and tube does not stand by itself, so if you need to move something in the course of vacuuming and take your hand off the main handle, rod and tube all come crashing down to the floor or hit something on the way down. You cannot store this machine with the handle standing, but must use a shabby slot on the back. Also the handle itself does not have an on/off button. Rather the user must push a button on the main part of the machine and not let go of the handle, as it will fall and hit whatever is in its path. Also, I have found that it's pretty difficult to open the bottom of the dustless container. So far, I've have to almost pry it open. These features are essential for the user/customer, but ignored in the design of this vacuum-Why?Bob in NM

I do not usually post reviews, but I am so angry that I decided that I must. This vac was purchased new from Canadian Tire one year ago and Bissell no longer can supply the foam and felt filters for the tank lid as I have been told that this vac has been discontinued. I have a house with wall to wall carpeting. This vac must be completely taken apart each time it is used and thoroughly washed. When the filters that came with this vac are no longer able to be used I will have to buy a new vac and it will not be a Bissell for sure. I think that a company as large as Bissell should continue to carry replacement filters and parts for their products for many years in the future. Just because you discontinue a product does not mean stores are not still selling it. You cannot expect to keep customers if you do not support your products.Gail

I have a golden retriever and bought this to replace my broken Kenmore canister vacuum. On hardwood it works ok but the area rug and front and carpets it's not good. You cannot adjust the beater brush height and on anything but a low pile it's not very good. I leave it on full power but that makes little difference. Takes 3 times as long as my old vacuum as you have to go over the area 5 or more times to pick up the dog hair stuck in the carpet and rug. The only reason I'm even keeping it is because emptying the canister is better then the bags I used to have to throw out. I am happy with its use on the hardwood and tile but very disappointed with it on carpet. I'd expect more for the price.Retriever owner
