Best Carpet Cleaner For Pet Odors (2023 Update)

I wanted to make sure I gave it a chance before I wrote my review. My cat peed on my bed and it got thru my blanket, sheet, mattress topper and it got on my mattress. I washed everything else a few times and that took care of the smell on all of that but I couldn’t get the pee away from my mattress. It smelled at night and I couldn’t fall asleep and I tried every pet stain remover we had in our house. So I decided no harm in trying this… I used it for two days. Sprayed really close to the mattress and let it soak. Then I took a damp rag and scrubbed and did that about twice. The second day I just sprayed it and then an hour later I blow dried it to help it dry faster. It worked! I can’t smell the pee anymore (thank god) and I can finally sleep! Absolutely recommend this product.Kay

Well, it works! Usually I use natures miracle but it wasn’t actually cleaning my carpet that well and the smell was just insane after a while. A couple of minutes after scrubbing this into my carpet in some spots where my dog had marked hard, I didn’t think it was going to work and I could still smell the urine but after an hour of letting it air out, the stains were gone except one bad one (I’d expect that and will just try using this again in that spot more thoroughly as it was lightened back up by 50%) and the smell was gone and everything smelled good again. Took some elbow grease but it works well for bad pet stains and smells.Hannah

Omg!!! I’m impressed! My son and puppy marked their territory in a couple places in the house and we could never get the smell out. It was embarrassing and we haven’t had anybody over because of it. I saw this in Walmart and decided to try this since the other sprays didn’t work. I sprayed this on a spot and it has a strong lemon smell. I went back over there an hour later and I smell NOTHING. With 2 Great Dane puppies and 2 19 year old cats I have a tons of experience with removing animal odors and stains. Most less expensive products, that I have tried, mask the smell temporarily. They do not, however, neutralize the protein in the urine which is what smells. Nature's Miracle contains ingredients to neutralize that protein. This results in odor removal. It leaves a fresh scent behind. Notably it also is a great stain remover on upholstery and carpet both. Just wanted to mention here that Nature's Miracle also makes a separate product for removing skunk stink from animals. I keep a gallon of Nature's Miracle on hand at all times. And, a bottle of de-skunk. You never know when you might need it!elissa.y

I decided to give this a shot after trying a few different shampoos with varying results. This stuff is great! I cannot believe the difference in my carpet color, and it smells great! It got out all the stains from when my dog was a puppy, and some older stains left from an elderly cat we had. My carpet looks just about as clean as it did when I first moved in! Because I had 6 senior dogs (with one paralized for the mid back down) itvwas nit uncommon for one of them to have an accident in the house. I tried every brand of carpet shampoo until I finally paid the few extra dollars and tried Natures Miracle. It removed the spots and the odors immediately. It is a little more costly than the other shampoos but because it works on the first shampoo you actually end up saving money on the long run.lisa.f

I was told it didn't have to be cleaned up from where it was used, but after first use, there were suds indicating a cleaning substance which I cleaned up and dried. I was told it was a safe to use around children and pets ingredient, but not what it is. I'm one of those picky, well-educated, caring humans who likes to investigate things and not take someone else's word. What exactly are all the ingredients in this product? I can't sweat it was this product, but something was stinging a small scratch on my finger. No, I'm not the type of person who sues and I never have. If I'm not happy, I just won't use the product. My mom's dog is 17 years old, blind and incontinent. Bless his little heart… We are pretty good about his routine and taking him out on a schedule but as you can imagine, accidents will and DO happen. Now I did not have to spend alot on this product. But the claims made for the product sounded EXACTLY like what I was looking for. However, honestly speaking, I will tell you exactly my personal experience. It has an odd smell, not horrible but just odd. It does take care of lingering urine odors – for about 2-3 days, then the urine odor returns. So the MAIN question on the cleaning part of this product is answered. If the urine odor returns, I'm assuming the urine us still there. All of the reviews that state this thing works are true. My teenagers were in charge of keeping the litterbox clean because we have two cats. They do an excellent job of keeping up with it in general. They did, however, become a touch sluggish over the break. The smell was so awful that I was practically retching by the time I smelled it from down the hall and told them to clean it. The damage had been done, even with the clean litter, and all I could smell was cat urine. So I came on here and read all the 5-star ratings and decided that even if it only functioned half as well as the reviews said, it would be a success. So when it arrived, I just opened the bottle and poured about a third of the liquid over our laminate floor and sprayed it on the walls surrounding the litterbox. I set it aside for an hour. However, even standing outside the room, we instantly saw a difference. I also brought the litterbox outside and sprayed it with this stuff, but I didn't let it sit, instead wiping it down with baby wipes. After an hour, I washed everything out, replaced the clean litterbox in the room, and went outside to clear my nose to see if I could smell cat urine. I couldn't smell it. My children couldn't either. I invited my MOTHER (who despises cats and is a stickler for cleanliness) over for the grand verdict, and asked her to smell not only the house, but the room as well. She was taken aback by the fact that she couldn't smell anything, and she actually stated it smelled GOOD! It does have a light herbal aroma to it that isn't bad. My mother not smelling anything and remarking on how nice everything smelled is a huge praise, believe me. I would – and will – buy this product again. It works like a charm!!!mellie

its a foam spray, you spray it and you see it on the carpet. you leave and i came back in a couple hours and the carpet was dry as can be! i did not find this scent to floral, it smells fresh it smells clean! it got rid of some nasty pet odors in my spare room, one of my cats peed in a corner years ago and i could never quite get that "stench smell" out of that room. but this product works as advertised and the price is right! i am going to buy more cans and i plan to spray foam throughout my house on all carpets! highly recommended!Meaghann

Got this for my dog because even after showers, he gets stinky quickly and loves being on the couches cuddled up. Thankfully he doesn’t smell too strong to the point where my house smells like dirty dog but his blankets can catch scents so I bought this and I’m glad I did! It comes out as a white foam liquid and has the typical scent that arm & hammer has on their pet products. I put this all over my blue couches and within minutes it has absorbed, it really refreshes your upholstery. I would say the scent lasts like 1-2 days which I’m not mad about because my stuff isn’t super smelly but if you have older, smelly carpets or upholstery, this may not be enough.n0811

I am not super sensitive to smells. In fact I usually like a strong fragrance so I ignored the reviews saying this was way too strong. However, this stuff smells HORRIBLE. It's super strong, chemical, perfumey and artificial smelling. I sprayed it once on the rug in our living room and immediately threw it in the trash. I vacuumed the rug in an attempt to remove the smell. Had to open all the windows and run the fan on high all day. Never never again.Elle

Never have issues with Cleaning Product adding Pic just so you have documentation on how disgusting this machine was and had to be cleaned before I could use it. So Disgusting would even spray solution because it was clogged. Had to blow it out with an air compressor to get it to function.gale r.

The formula worked wonders for our carpet. The smell was a bit strange, but it went away with time. The only complaint I have is that the vacuum's directions give an exact amount of the formula to use on carpet, but when you actually open the bottle, there are two lines in the cap. This would be super handy if there was a label somewhere which states how much liquid each line holds. Overall a great experience though!Shelby

The Pet Stain & Odor cleaner has a horrible, noxious, and extremely strong smell that was so bad that it made me cough and gave me a headache. If it made me feel that sick, I can't imagine how it would smell to a cat or a dog. It made my whole apartment smell like a floral drier sheet. They either required multiple cleanings to get good results or in spite of repeated cleanings, the results were still poor. Boy did I do My research on this Baby! As a user/owner I am being honest by saying There are a few issues with this Machine. No issue alone is Problematic, it CLEANS VERY WELL INDEED, however when there are 5 issues at once, it starts to ad up.The Bissell Cleaning Solutions are Exellant but Soo expensive(look for Generics). To clean a 3BD Home with Lounge/Dinning Stair case and Hallways will set you back between $100- 150 on Bissell Cleaning Solutions, I'm not kidding!!The 2 roller Brushes are Very Agressive compared to the suction, they literally rip the Carpet Fibres up in Chunks then block the Machine. The On/Off button is way down the side were you have to feel for it because You are standing to high trying to Juggle the Power cord and God knows what, it should on the top Driving handle. The water/Solution tank is far to small and the Water and Solution level marks are impossible to see. There is allot of Back and forth to the Bathroom tub to keep refilling and adding yet more Expensive Solutions while splashing water about. Don't even try and use it to clean your Matress(big Soggy mess). The cleaning attachments are OK, but it will take hours to clean Your Sofa and will hurt Your wrists (RSI) good job though. It is heavy and Combisome. Bissell is the best solution if you have pet accidents. Natures Miracle 1 gallon pet urin Destroyer is best for large messes. Just follow the directions on either bottle to the letter. Skipping or adding/subtracting from the directions, it WILL fail.Randall

Let’s talk cat urine. My elderly cat peed on my nice Karastan rug, why? I don’t know. The vet ruled out UTI and she has a nice clean litter box, two of ‘em to be exact. Anyway, it made my whole room smell like cat pee. I bought this as a last ditch effort and took my spot bot over the entire rug. First round so far it has eliminated 80% of the smell. I’m gonna flip it over tonight and do the underside of my rug and I believe it’ll take the smell out 99%. I am happy I got this product!Emma

This was the worst thing I bought. Our cat peed on the carpet in walk in closet. Rented a carpet cleaning machine and used 4 times before dropping it off. There was a slight smell of the cat pee so I decided to buy this pet fresh powder to put on the carpet in closet. Decided to sprinkle all over closet. I vacuumed and it smelled so strong. I tried to vacuum again and even got on hands and knees to wipe up with towel. The smell was so strong , and my throat and lungs were burning. I had to run back to home depot and rent the carpet cleaning machine again!!!! And bought a respirator mask , it’s that bad. So spent additional 55 bucks because of this product. Went over the carpet 5 times in the span of 12 hours. And it’s day 2 since the day I cleaned the carpet again and the room still smells strong of that horrid product. Don’t usually leave reviews but I felt this needed to be said. Used this powder in my travel trailer and like many have said it aggravates the asthma. I spent the next 5 months vacuuming, carpet shampooing, paid a professional carpet cleaner, and still the smell lingers. So finally I had it and ripped the carpet up and sure enough a bunch of the product had worked it’s way through the carpet into the padding.

The part that makes you insane is when vacuuming some will work it’s way back out from the padding so you’ll keep thinking “this time for got it all out” but then the next day the smell is still there.

Also if you read the ingredients there’s silica in it which is basically sand so it won’t dilute. Plus if you breathe that in it causes lung scarring.Dan Ross

I read a few reviews before trying this product, but I was desperate and needed something to get the "wet dog" smell out of my couch. My couch cannot be cleaned by a Green Machine style upholstery cleaner or any water-based options, so I am stuck with powdered options. I tried a solid amount of baking soda prior to trying this – it helped, but only marginally. I had hoped that additional chemicals in this product would help boost the effects of the baking soda. I sprinkled this product fairly lightly all over my sectional, and vacuumed it up 10-20 mins later. It does make a bit of a mess when vacuuming it up. The smell is so excessive it isn't even funny. It legitimately smells like a 95 year old woman's room in a retirement home. Odd floral/baby powder type smell, kind of like bad perfume. I do think this neutralized some of the odor, but it is so hard to tell with the amount of fragrance added. Both my dog and I started sneezing and having allergic reactions to this powder. I have guests coming tomorrow and I genuinely don't think we can sit in the living room. My dog won't go near the couch. I will be throwing out the box, and never using this product again. I guess I only recommend this product if you don't have a nose or eyeballs to get irritated, and you are trying to train your dog to stay away from your furniture. We recently adopted one of those "pandemic puppies" everyone was raving about. I don't really understand what's so great about them. They really make a mess of the place. Ha! I'm kidding. Our recently adopted puppy is the best! She did make a few messes early on but this carpet cleaner did an excellent job of getting the carpets cleaned. Once we had decided the "accidents phase" was over I wanted to clean the carpet in the bedroom & behind the desk I found a spot where I had spilled some coffee and didn't see it had dropped. Now I definitely did not use this product as originally intended. I don't have a Hoover wet vacuum or carpet cleaning vacuum of any kind. I simply diluted to the strength recommended on the bottle of 3oz of cleaner per one gallon of water in a sprayer, pre-treated the area and let it set for about 10 minutes. Came back with a stiff brush and worked the cleaner into several spots that had been pretreated and blotted it up with a cotton towel. OMG I could not believe it. One year old stains that have had nearly every carpet cleaning product applied to it over the year came up with ease. I was truly amazed. I did not take a before picture as I was not expecting this product to work at all. I am just shocked out how amazing of a job this product did on those pet stains. We have 2 indoor cats that from time spit up hairballs, etc. that leaves stains from time to time. From using this product, I can say that is does work to remove dirt and stains from carpets. I did not have parts of the carpet that particular smells bad (from urine or anything) to say for sure that us removes all the smell, but overall the product smelled very good and left the carpet smelling good afterwards. When using the carpet cleaner, I previously carpet cleaned the house about a month ago and when using this new product, it removed even more dirt from the carpet. Based on what I've seen when using it, I would recommend this product. Folex is the BEST stuff ever. It takes wine stains out of everything. Someone spilled a glass of red wine on our light beige carpet. We sprayed the carpet, blotted with paper towel (or white rag), and voila it was completely gone within minutes! Removes red wine from cloting too. Now we just need friends to stop wasting the good wine! 10/10!MSL1

this stuff is magic! i have cats and one that is long haired so he gets hairballs and barfs on my carpet. and of course some cat food comes up with that and i now realize that cat food has coloring in it and it stains my carpet! i had used everything under the sun and nothing worked. one day i saw this in the store and decided i might as well give it a try. I use this in my bissel pro heat carpet cleaner. It gets way more dirt out than the bissel brand name products. I used it after I had used the bissel product on my rug today and even after it had been cleaned once already it got out so much. This is the best carpet cleaning formula I've ever used! I have used a ton of different brands, none compare in the slightest. This gets my carpets super clean, removes stains, and refreshes as well. You only need a little amount, so you're not going to go through this super quick. Only brand I will use now and I highly recommend!! My household is busy, full of kids, dogs and constant traffic of everyone coming and going. Finding products that fit my lifestyle has been tough, aggravating, and frustrating. I was really excited to find biokleen and read about the actual science behind their products. I rolled up my sleeves and dove right into the worst room of our house- the dog room. Ok, so we have two chihuahua dogs and potty training them has been a complete nightmare, so when we are not home, they are left in our sunroom. However, it never fails, that they always have accidents waiting for me to clean when we get home. This Bac-Out was a perfect solution- it was safe for my ceramic tile, actually got down to breakdown and absorb the mess, and completely eliminated the stains unlike anything else I have seen! (It is obviously pet safe, fyi.) My next task was the kitchen trash can. Seriously, with teenagers in the house, I am not sure how so much gets stuck between the trash can and the bag…. As luck would have it, my son got a horrible bloody nose after this product arrived. I used it to spot treat the carpet from the trail he left through the house. It worked fantastic. I like the fact that I can pour it on the spot rather than having to spray and spray to cover the soiled area. It worked like magic getting all the blood out of our carpet. The stain lifted on the first try and took minimal effort with dabbing. I only had to apply the product one time to get the spot completely out of the carpet. The spots have not attracted dirt, and the carpet has not changed in texture where I used the product. It has a wonderful fresh smell. I really like the fact that it is plant based, but just as effective. I imagine this would work great on getting stains out of clothes as well too. I’ve heard of this brand before but have never used it until now and wow, I’m impressed. It does an amazing job at removing stains and neutralizes odors. If you have kids & pets, you definitely need this. I have a Beagle who does have accidents from time to time especially when no one lets him out and he’s left by himself. I just blot up the mess (paper towels work best because I can just throw them away) then I squirt a decent amount on the stain and blot that up. The smell is gone and stays gone. I used this on my area rug and it didn’t stain or bleach it at all. It has a fresh lemon lime scent and it smells clean. So I was curious when it said this can be used for stains. On a different area rug in my living room, my son decided to use marker to color on my rug (I posted before & after pictures to show). Lots of carpet in this house, with previous pet owners. I didn't have this product when I tackled the first carpet clean session. I decided to try this product and ordered 2 bottles. (with discount!!, Thank You, Bissel!). They arrived in time for my 2nd cleaning session. Important for best/better results, follow the instructions, generously squirt the product and use wet towels ( wetness level, as in towels that have gone through a washer spin cycle or maybe even a little wetter, but not drippy wet), cover the areas with towel(s) for 24 hours. I used up both bottles for the second cleaning session, due to flights of carpeted stairs and larger room carpet areas needing this special pre-treatment. Another reviewer asked for this product in a larger refill size. I like that suggestion and put me on the list to order, when available. Less plastic bottles to recycle, or ending up in the ocean, would be a winner too!Jeanette

I have used the product for years with different pets we have had. If they get sick after drinking a lot of water after eating food, it takes the food color out of the carpet without problems. Very easy to use. We used on our son's carpet after finding she had bled all over their carpet. It removed the blood stains with minimal effort. They were out of town and as It turned out, she had a bladder stone and required surgery. It isn't cheap but it works!Lisa

As a professional carpet cleaner with over 15 years experience, I am always investigating new products and since our Canadian dollar has dived so deep, it is no longer practical to order more expensive professional products from across the border. So I tried the Zep with our $30,000 machine and find it to be a decent cleaner, but not the best I've tried. It is low foaming, not fumy and safe to use according to the MSDS I've studied, but Zep makes another product that performs better (greenlink) which I prefer, but cannot find any additional info on it so it may be discontinued. For the average consumer using a store rental I would say this product is acceptable for use.Richardus

Having had several litters of kittens in my apartment, the rugs would get stained. Bought this to help clean and then they replaced my rugs. Never got to use it but gave some to a friend of mine who's puppy had little accidents. She raved about it to me as it cleaned it right up. A very cost effective alternative to other specialized products which are 2 to 3 x the price. Great buy!Colleen
