I do have very long hair but it’s very fine. It doesn’t matter if I put an inch of hair half an inch or a small strand of hair it just like bogged up. I got these with my rouge reward- super happy TY Sephora! So let me start my review by saying that I have fine shoulder length hair – I use all the rollers when I use them – they give great volume and lift and I rarely ever see any hair on the rollers when I remove them – the velvet wrapper is super soft so there’s no snags! They heat up super fast within a few minutes and get quite hot even on the lowest setting! Sometimes it’s almost too hot against my head so then I have to wait for it to cool down even when it’s only been plugged in three minutes that’s how fast they heat up. The only negative I would say for me personally because I have fine hair is that they are extremely heavy I feel like if I move my head to the left or right front or back they would wobble and fall out maybe I have to make sure I stay upright – but I’m sure somebody with the care or medium or longer hair this would not be an issue of weight. I have lost hair using Velcro rollers they are a nightmare on fine hair- I’ve also lost strands using magnetic rollers (the kind you roll when wet) but with these rarely have I seen even one strand of hair on a roller- most all the times I have use these and I remove them there’s no strands of hair snagging on the rollers and that for me makes these a win!! I took off one starsimply because of the weight- which again probably only affects me because I have fine hair but I wish that these were a little bit more light weight. My husband bought me these for Christmas. I was so exited to use them. You def get a little volume but not so much curl. I got extra 1” smaller ones and those are good for maybe 15 minutes. I’ve tried these multiple ways with various different products and no such luck. The clips are horrible! The clips are bulky and get caught on each other, regardless of how you section the hair. You’ll need more curlers if you have a lot of hair for sure. I have fine hair and tried texture sprays, mouses, hairspray and no luck. I’ve had better luck with the Conairs than this.Nikki

This was my first new set of hot rollers in 25 years and I really wanted to love them. I was really looking forward to having large bouncy curls due to the size of these rollers. They didn't get hot enough to curl my hair. I have fine straight hair and curling is a challenge, but with product in my hair and wrapping these in a towel for extra heat I still didn't get any curls. This is my first time using the clips, I found them to be just fine. The rollers all stayed in place with the clips and were comfortable, they just didn't curl my hair at all. I always want to curl my hair but found curling irons and wands so difficult to use — they're scarily hot and wrapping my hair around it is really hard. This product absolutely solved both of those problems; it was really easy to hold and clip my hair around the curlers, and each piece also isn't continuously tied to heated power source so I wasn't worried my hair (or nearby skin) would become burnt or fried. The product heated up really fast so it's definitely something you could easily do before work or school as you have breakfast. Because it's not as hot I did notice that my hair started straightening faster than it would have if I had used a curling iron, but if you use hair spray or setter immediately after removing the curlers, that shouldn't be an issue. Okay! I have been using hot rollers for over ten years (my mom taught me to roll my hair if that's any indication). I bought this exact set back in college, and I felt compelled to leave a review as technically these are the only hot rollers I've ever owned, and I hope someone else can benefit from this review. They have seen many places and many years. They heat up pretty quickly, but I always give it five to ten minutes just to be safe (I like mine to be HOT because my hair is fine and has a mind of its own sometimes). Yes, they use the pins and not the clamps, but I have had problems in the past when I used to borrow hot rollers with the clips leaving dents in my freshly rolled hair! If you have the same issue, pins are the way to go. It might feel a bit tight, but you know they aren't going anywhere. I wait until they are completely cooled before taking out and because my hair is thin, I hit it with hairspray BEFORE I take them out, then hit it again after I've adjusted the curls to my liking. I live in the South, so heat and hairspray to keep curls from falling in high humidity is a must. The plastic cover of mine is cracked, and they look like they've been through the wringer, but I get compliments on my hair almost every time I use them, and they're hands-free for when I want style but don't have 30 minutes to spend focused specifically on my hair. Worst hot rollers ever! I needed a new set and thought I would go the inexpensive route and try these rather than replace my steam roller set I had used for years. The only thing positive about these is they do heat up fast. But, they burn your fingers no matter how u try to roll them, then they burn your head. I left them in until cool, and got very little volume and no curl. I used the same large and small roller set I used with my steam rollers, so I know how to use rollers for my hairstyle. Unfortunately, I was too late to return them by the time I used them due to being ill. Do not buy! I am a hot roller addict, and have been from a very early age (thank you, mom!) I have very thick, very curly hair, which unfortunately doesn't have the best curl pattern on top to wear natural. I have fine limp hair and was excited to try Conair’s Travel Hairsetter with Jumbo Rollers to get more volume and also curl my hair. These rollers are great and I love that they heat up quickly in around 2 minutes. I apply by first brushing my hair, then sectioning my hair into 5 sections with 2 on each side and one in back and securing with clips into place, then leaving them on for 10 minutes and then unrolling them. They are jumbo sized in that they are 1.5 inches big so I get big volume if that’s what I’m going for or I get big voluminous curls if it is that. If I’m going for volume I brush my hair out and if I’m going for curls I gently comb over a couple times. I wish that this set had 6 rollers so I could fit two in front and back but it comes with 5 so need to manage to fit all hair into one curler which is only reason I take off a star because feel it should have 6 to equally divide and fit hair into sections accordingly. They are great for traveling though and I recently traveled and they are so compact they easily fit in my suitcase and did not take up a lot of room. I used hot rollers in the 80’s with no problems on long hair and got long lasting curls. After years of having short hair and letting it grow out during Covid., I thought hot rollers would be faster than a curling iron. These rollers get so hot, even the end edges you’re suppose to hold get so hot it’s almost impossible to pick them up. I was so excited to use curling iron, and even more excited as soon as I opened the box. You can see and feel the quality right away. I love the sleek, modern design, and how it’s lightweight, but still solid. I’ve had irons before that were too light and would slide all over the counter when I put them down, but the Soft Curl has enough weight that it stays right where I put it. That’s really important because this iron heats up SUPER fast (which I love) and is very hot. Any new tool takes a little time to get used to, and like I said, it heats up fast, so I definitely recommend practicing styling your hair with a cool iron before turning it on. Also, there’s just a little bit of texture to the barrel of the iron (which gives it a really nice matte look) but l also think it gives the barrel a little bit of grip while still allowing your hair to glide around the iron without any tugging or snagging. And finally, the result. I got exactly what I wanted from this (perfectly named) iron. Big, beautiful, soft curls. I really liked this curler. Curls are long lasting. The curler heats up fairly quickly in under 8 seconds. I like the shape the curler has on the end because it makes it easy to hold and that part doesn’t get hot. You can use this curler many different ways. My favorite way to use it is mostly like a wand but with the tong to hold the hair into place. The width of the wand is perfect for looser or bigger curls. It does take a few minutes to cool so I’d be careful with it after unplugging it. It’s also pretty easy to hold and not heavy. Overall a good product. Wanted to invest in a quality product that isn't damaging for the hair. Does what it's suppose to do which is gives you long lasting curls. One thing to note that it is VERY hot, and it's not adjustable. I have normal to thin stand hair and i think the heat is way too strong for my hair type, I don't even leave the curl on the tong for the recommended time. The barrel isn't every smooth when gliding your hair through, you have to open the clamp to release the hair which is abit annoying if you have long hair. Because of the friction its harder to use in my experience compared to other curlers.. burnt myself the first time too.. you definitely need a technique whilst using this because it is way to hot and I can't leave my hair on the barrel for long and need to move really quickly. I’ll start with what I didn’t like. If you have small hands you’ll probably dislike this one. The push down handle (not sure of its proper name) is too far out. My thumb was having trouble reaching it. And once i started twirling it, the on/off button kept turning off because it’s poorly placed right in the center where your fingers tend to grip the hardest. I had to stay focused so that I wouldn’t turn it off again and again while trying not to burn myself. And for what I liked…it curls well and holds its heat. I returned mine because it frustrated me so much. There seems to be a mix of reviews but ultimately you’ll have to try it for yourself. While this curling iron does an okay job curling hair, some engineer should be fired for putting the on/off switch exactly where your thumb goes as you are trying to curl your hair. As others have noted, the on/off switch keeps going off accidentally, as you happen to even slightly touch the area where the switch is. I recommend that the switch be moved to the end tip of the curling iron, so that a person is not constantly hitting the switch by accident. Or a different type of switch be employed, one that is not so sensitive to touch.Gin
I should have read the most recent reviews first before purchasing. I have longer hair and I thought this curling iron looked like it would do the job…NOT at all! First of all, I don’t know what is the deal with where they have placed the on/off and turbo buttons, but as you are using, my thumb kept hitting it and turning it off. Next, no matter what products I used before or after, it does NOT hold any curls. At first I thought maybe my hair was ‘too clean’ so I tried it several different times, and same results! I even made sure not to curl too much hair at one time and did smaller sections. Don’t be fooled…when you’re using it, you’ll see the curls, but as soon as you’re finished and go about your day, they are GONE! Disappointing because it took a long time to curl all my hair. This is the greatest thing I have ever owned. For reference, I have the flattest, straightest hair that will not hold a curl even with heavy duty hairspray and a professional stylist. I have tried EVERYTHING to hold a curl and nothing has ever worked. Then my MIL purchased this for me for Christmas and although it was a little challenging for me figuring out how to properly use it, once I did I was super impressed. Even when I didn't do a great job putting it on, my hair came out curly/wavy and silky soft. There is no frizz because of the satin! It adds so much volume to my hair, the curls hold ALL day, and I've even had them last overnight. It's also comfortable to sleep in. I have a nerve disorder that makes it so I can't handle pressure on my scalp, but this thing somehow doesn't trigger anything. You HAVE to try this out. I am seriously loving this satin curling rod. I have long mid-back length color treated hair. My hair holds a curl fairly easily but mostly falls out by the end of the day even with setting spray. I'm trying to use less products and heat tools on my hair to keep it healthier. I ordered this satin curling rod on a whim because I have several other Kitsch products that I really like. Whoa! It took me less than 10 minutes to figure out how to wrap my hair the very first time. Now, I sleep with this almost nightly and it takes about five minutes altogether so it fits easily into my nightly skincare routine. I am a side sleeper so I was a little hesitant about sleeping in this thing at first. However, I just shaped the wire inside the rod around the curve of my head behind my ears, pulled my satin pillow sleep mask down over the top and drifted right off to sleep. Wearing this doesn't bother me at all even as I toss and turn a bit throughout the night. I wake up, do my morning routine, apply makeup, get dressed and then unfasten my hair. I flip upside down, finger comb the curls out and I'm ready to go. If I want tighter curls, I can wrap smaller sections more tightly and if I want looser waves, I wrap larger sections more relaxed. I've only used this overnight. One night, I snagged some of my hair with some jewelry and pulled a portion loose. I got up and had to rewrap one side after only wearing it a couple of hours. My hair had a good wave set into it already after that short period of time. Of course, it's all dependent on your hair type but I plan on playing around with the length of time I wear it. This product works well for me. I have several inches of curling rod left over usually so I gently fold it up and kind of twist it around back onto itself and secure with the scrunchies. I have a couple of silk heatless curlers that I like to use and work nicely with my long, baby fine hair, but they don't stay in place all that well, and I feel as if I am continually adjusting them. One is just a long cylinder that requires a large clip to anchor it at the midline and the other is the segmented type with a flat part between the two cylinders, and I use two smaller clips to anchor the flat portion near each temple. Apparently if I had thick enough hair, I would be able to remove the clips once I had my hair rolled, up. But in my case, the roller slides out of my hair if allowed to move around. I thought these shorter individual rods might work better. The fabric is a satin polyester so these curlers are not as soft, smooth and luxurious feeling as my silk curlers. They also don't allow my hair to dry as quickly. The fabric is white with grey marbling + just a hint of pink which I don't find very attractive. In fact, I initially thought the curlers were dirty! (of course, they are not). The core is a foam rod. The curlers are closed with a snap and I guess it is just me, since no-one else has mentioned it, but I had a heck of a time getting them undone, even with the little fabric tabs to help. One or two curlers were easy to open, but the others were so tight I didn't think I would ever get them apart. I had to get help to get one of them out of my hair. I tried snapping and unsnapping each curler several times hoping to loosen them up, but that didn't really work. The curlers don't stay in my hair very well, even when linked together, but that is probably due to how thin and fine my hair really is. I rolled my just slightly damp hair and they are comfortable enough to sleep in, but they moved down so much that the curls were just in the lower half of the length of my hair. The curled part of my hair was not completely dry, but once I removed the curlers it dried in just a few minutes and the curls were very nice and lasted through the day (with finger combing only and some hairspray as my hair takes a curl readily but doesn't hold it). These might work better for someone with thicker hair than mine (and stronger fingers). The fabric is not of the best quality, and is fairly coarse, but the rollers are decently made with straight seams, and although plastic, the snaps are holding up well. There are a few loose threads here and there. The curlers arrived nicely packaged and there are some instructions and hints for use on the back. The current price of $14.00 seems a bit high for what they are.SuLu

I have chemical free-natural, dense, tightly curled African American hair that is about bra strap length when straightened. I used these curlformers with no holding product or gel, only leave-in and grease, set the curlers and air dried over night. To be sure they set I sat under my hooded dryer for 30 mins. I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome of my smooth, ringlet/spiral curls that lasted a week. This was my first time using these and they are pretty easy to use. Love curl formers. Bought them at sallys about a year or so ago. I am probably about as straight haired as they come and my hair doesn't usually keep curl well unless I use a very high heat curling wand which makes my hair look great but also makes my hair smell from burning it. On the occasions that I forgot and didn't use a heat protectant. These are a bit of a pain to sleep in but the do make your hair look nice . I've only used them a few times and eventually got the dryer accessory with them so I didn't have to sleep in them. That was a blessing. My 8 year old daughter wanted to curl her hair. She has straight Asian hair. I was a a bit hesitant because of the high price of the curlers. However I had a coupon and decided to try it. I had her take a shower and when her hair was damp almost dry I put the curlers on. She slept with them over night with no problem. The next morning she removed them and the picture on the curlers was a good representation of what her hair looked like once the curlers were removed. I didn’t put any product in them so by the end of the day her hair was more of a very loose wave. Now my daughter asks for me to put her hair in curlers every night. I would say it takes my about a good 20 minutes to put her curlers in her hair. Her hair is long and thick. You definitely get what you pay for and this was an excellent buy from Sally’s.

It is BIG, so I selected 3 stars for "easy to use" because I think it is would be a little challenging for someone who isn't a professional, I even found there to be a learning curve! There are great tutorials and videos available to help guide you. Smaller sections (not too thick) and holding the iron in place long enough, (based on the integrity and condition of your hair) are two important factors to achieve a beach wave look. I like to spray my hair with (a light mist of) dry shampoo all over, after I'm done using my waver, then "rake" it out with a friction free wide tooth comb. I have naturally curly/wavy hair up top and is now finally growing out but I had keratin treatments so my hair is half curly and half straight. I got this to be able to have uniform waves. Always have lots of compliments when I wear my hair like this. Easy to use, clear instructions. I have thick hair and I wouldn't hold longer than 5 sec (per recommendations). It does it job. Heats pretty quickly. You may have to do a few batches before getting the hang of how you want to section your hair. Overall I like the effect that the larger barrels have on my hair and so far this product has operated well, but the place where you put your thumb to open the waver gets so hot that after about 10 minutes of use it’s difficult to even touch. Also, the on/off button is put in a place where I constantly accidentally touch it and turn it off. Another downfall of this product is that the material that is wrapped around the stand melts (learned the hard way)—the weight of the waver makes it so that it shifts easily and it did just that when I wasn’t paying attention and a part of the stand melted. I LOVED THIS CURLER!!!! I was honestly hesitant with this at first because I was scared my hair would get caught up or tangled and that I would have to possibly cut it out but this was completely the opposite of what I thought! I loved that it’s cordless so it’s easy to use anywhere and even on the go if you’re traveling or just rushing to get somewhere and want to still do your hair. I have thick hair and when it said to obviously use decently small strips in the tool I was thinking it would take FOREVER to finish but it’s so fast. The barrel twists the hair so smoothly and after it’s done you’re left with a beautiful curl. I always have a hard time doing curls or styling my hair since I’m not an expert and this tool makes it completely easy. I am in love with it and have used several times already and if I get to travel this will definitely be going with me. I feel like the heat settings are just enough without causing too much damage to hair. You can switch up the direction of the curl which Is so convenient. I think the only con I can give this which really isn’t even anything bad is you definitely would need to use in front of a mirror just to make sure you’re Putting the hair into the slot completely for the barrel to be able to twist and give that nice curl. I bought my first one a few months ago and absolutely loved it! I could curl my hair on my half hour drive to work. (Only at the endless stoplights, of course.) Despite having waist length hair, I had absolutely no problems with tangling or pulling hair. I did use small sections of hair, as recommended, though. We had a beautiful one month relationship, and then it just died. wouldn't recharge at all. Despite reviews suggesting it might be a chronic problem, I returned it for another. That one wouldn't charge past one bar, which only gave me about three minutes of curling time. I tried charging it again overnight, with the same result. so, that one was returned, too. Overall I was disappointed in this product and I don’t really see myself using it again. The second picture below is after I curled my hair with a different curling iron and the first and third were before and after I combed them out using the Conair one. You can pretty much see that the Conair one made it look a little messy. I stopped using it after I took the pictures because I didn’t want all of my hair to look like that. I think I like more of a beach wave and this just curled it too much. I think this would be ideal for someone with shorter and less thick hair as well as someone who is young and just starting out because they won’t burn themselves! Pros: I like that it can stand up on the counter so I don’t have to worry about it sliding off like other curlers. I appreciate the fact that it turns off automatically after a certain amount of time. Heated up pretty fast and the heat is on the inside so you can’t really burn yourself. Cons: The curls came out kind of messy and non-uniform. It curls the very bottom of my hair which I usually leave out to create a beach wave look. Harder to use than a regular clamp curling iron. Buttons to switch from L to R and change the temperature were a little confusing I just pressed them randomly until it changed to how I wanted it. I spent months trying to decide which automatic hair curler I was going to buy. After reading umpteen reviews and watching umpteen YouTube videos on every automatic hair curler on the market, I finally decided to the CHI and got an excellent deal on eBay. I'd watched so many women use this and read the directions, I couldn't wait to use it. Either get some life back in my hair with curls or cut it short. I really thought it would be easy and quick to get long bouncy beach waves. I was wrong about everything! The CHI is very awkward to hold, very heavy and too wide of a handle. It heated up very quickly which was good. But trying to grab 1/2" to 3/4" wide of hair is difficult. And trying to get that hair into the curler was near to impossible! The curler has to be held with a specific side to your head, the same side with the small cutout where you put your hair in. Trying to do this while looking into a mirror really threw me off. After about 6 tries to get hair in I finally did it, had it set on medium heat for 15 seconds, and although I could actually smell my hair burning I waited the whole 15 seconds. When I released the hair it was very hot with barely any curl at all. I would have done better with my old curling iron or plastic rollers. I continued to try and experimentedwith various temperature settings and the longer hold time which is 19 seconds. Every single time my hair got immediately tangled up inside the curler. I was terrified I would either burn my hair off or it would get so tangled in the machine I couldn't get it out and have to cut my hair out of it! Luckily that didn't happen but I did have to lose a bunch of hairs in the process. After maybe a total of 20 minutes I gave up completely. I don't know how others can use this. I don't know how they manage to get their hair into a small opening that's facing their hair and actually have the thing take hold of the hair. I definitely think it would work better if there were cutouts on both sides of the machine so you weren't forced to try to get hair in while having to work within the small opening with the sides in the way. This definitely is not for me and I'm extremely disappointed. If it weren't so heavy and awkward to hold, and I had three hands, I probably could have done it! Unfortunately, the seller doesn't accept returns, so I'll give it to someone more coordinated than me. But don't let my bad experience stop you from buying the CHI if that's what you've set your heart on, just be sure to get it somewhere that accepts returns, just in case.rosie55555
This curler really does work! It just has a learning curve. These are the steps I do to get it to work: 1. Take a small section of hair that’s long & narrow, not a wide section. 2. If starting from the top of your hair shaft, hold the curler close to your head, fit the hair piece in between the plastic V on top of the curler. You can either hold onto the hair piece still or let it go so it’s just hanging down. 3. Push the wind button. If you want curls to face inward you push the button on the outside of the curler, if you want curls that curl away from your face then push the button closest to your ear. 4. After some trial and error you will be able to tell right away if the hair is winding correctly by the way it feels and the noise it makes. 5. You can curl certain sections even if your hair is long. To do this you have to grab your hair from where you want it to start and wrap it around your finger like in the instruction booklet. You then repeat the steps above by putting the hair in between the V. It will wrap it from that section onward. The biggest trick here is **the hair has to fit in between the plastic V on top of the curler** The most unfortunate part is you can’t get so close to your root, but the curls are still pretty!Karen
Omg. This thing is a time saver, I have relatively long thick hair so it takes at least 45min-1hr to curl my hair. Now with this? 15-20min I genuinely am shocked. The first time I took 25 min but that’s only because I didn’t know how to use it properly lol. My hair gets stuck sometimes when I put too much in (they advise against it lol) but even when it gets “stuck” it immediately shuts off and a warning beep alarms me to remove my hair. It doesn’t hurt either. I like how depending on the time you can do loose to poodle curles so it’s very versatile. I’m buying both my sister and my mom this for Christmas 10/10 product. This automatic curler works well, heats fast, has a button to spin either way, a timer and a high and low setting which I like allot. My hair is almost shoulder length. It did not tangle my hair. The important thing to realize is that a large barrel only can produce bigger, looser curls and is usually best with hair that is approximately shoulder length and longer. It is easy to use and just takes a little practice looking in the mirror for eye hand coordination. Holding it vertical (straight up and down) and not on a slanted angle, setting the lower section of hair in place and then repeating with the upper section of the strands of hair seems to work well. You can do the whole section of hair at one time. There is some minor versatility to styling with it, but not allot. The baloney type curls are not super tight, but are defined medium and pretty. They can be gently combed through with a wide comb or fingers to separate out and the hair becomes a nice fully wave. Professional Hair Volume product and Professional Hairspray are not necessary for the style to hold, but will help give volume and keep the styled hair curl longer. I give it a 4 out of 5 because it is a good product and is easy to use for a wavy or baloney curl effect and does save time once you know how to use it and touch it up each day – but minus one star because it has very little other versatility and the price is a bit high, I paid over $35.00. You could get the same effect with curlers, or a regular curling iron (loosely wound) and be able to use them for other styles for less money. I hope this response it helpful in deciding. Ive used this product for years. My hair is thick and wavy i use this product every other day becaue the curls last until i wash my hair next. I take a section of hair and start in the middle and it pulls up the end. It looks great but like any heat tool it causes damage so try to protect. I dont start too high because my hair is long but also because where u start the curl is where the most amount of heat is applied and i dont want any damage that high up. DO NOT use this product if you use genectic or procucts that cause wax build up you will see more damage. I really love this tool but want to stress that you need to use heat proection after washing so you can blow dry it into your hair. If your like me and want to curl the night before to reduce your morning routine make sure you give your hair plenty time to cool before bed. I went back and forth for a long, long time before purhasing this item. I shouldn't have wasted my money. Why? 1. timely – It takes much longer to curl your hair than with a traditional curling iron. You can only use very small sections if you want any curl at all, especially if you have thick or corse hair. 2. curls – This is a misnomer. They are more like curly waves, or just waves and fall out very quickly. 3. ease – Using this tool is awkward, especially when trying to get the hair in the back. Overall, I am very disappointed in this product and would tell anyone thinking of purchasing it to learn from my mistake and leave it on the shelf.Debbie
I genuinely like this. It was a bit weird trying it at first, and I did get tangled in it twice (my fault for not reading directions and just jumping in) My hair is to my waist and it's full, more on the coarse side of brunette hair. You definitely don't want to do this on very very long hair. it just doesn't fit. but any mid length to short should be fine. the heat settings will determine the tightness of the curl. I wash my hair the day before and let it air dry. then I choose the thickest amount I can safely put in the unit and curl the very bottom 7 inches of my hair. it does look a bit odd at first but after I am done I pin my hair in a bun (do my makeup) then let my hair down and it looks like big beachy waves – which is exactly what I wanted. Yes I could achieve the same look from a 2" barrel iron but this unit makes it faster and easier. With as much hair as I have – anything to make it easier helps. I dont burn my hands with this and I dont have to worry about wrapping or kinks from a bad wrap on a wand.Susana

If I had just seen it in the store, with the $99.98 price tag on it, I would have passed it up simply because I think that's too much to pay for a curling iron. But, had I known then what I know now.. I would have bought it in a heartbeat.Right out of the box it looked impressive. It does not look like it's cheaply made at all, it looks very sophisticated. It does have some weight to the top part of it (the curling chamber), but in my opinion was not 'too heavy' to where I had a problem finishing all of my hair. It comes with a nice little tool for cleaning the curling chamber/barrel if the curler, and of course, an instruction manual.. be sure to read this carefully before using! The curler itself is not as complicated as it looks, it's really quite simple to work with, but holding it the correct way is key!This is how easy it is to use this product: Switch (on) to the high or low setting. The red light will blink until the curler is hot and ready for use (once hot, the red light will stay on steady without blinking). The top switch gives you the option of doing 8, 10, or 12 seconds (this is how long you want your hair to stay in the curling chamber). The manual will tell you which type of curls you can get from each seconds setting. Keep in mind that, to get a particular curl, you not only have to hold the curler the right way, but also, you need to start out with clean, well brushed and dried hair. I found that even slightly damp hair can make your curls turn out bad.. but I think this can be true of any curling iron. After putting your hair into the curler and clamping it shut, it will wind up your hair, and it will make a beeping sound. I have a couple of silk heatless curlers that I like to use and work nicely with my long, baby fine hair, but they don't stay in place all that well, and I feel as if I am continually adjusting them. One is just a long cylinder that requires a large clip to anchor it at the midline and the other is the segmented type with a flat part between the two cylinders, and I use two smaller clips to anchor the flat portion near each temple. Apparently if I had thick enough hair, I would be able to remove the clips once I had my hair rolled, up. But in my case, the roller slides out of my hair if allowed to move around. I thought these shorter individual rods might work better. The fabric is a satin polyester so these curlers are not as soft, smooth and luxurious feeling as my silk curlers. They also don't allow my hair to dry as quickly. The fabric is white with grey marbling + just a hint of pink which I don't find very attractive. In fact, I initially thought the curlers were dirty! (of course, they are not). The core is a foam rod. The curlers are closed with a snap and I guess it is just me, since no-one else has mentioned it, but I had a heck of a time getting them undone, even with the little fabric tabs to help. One or two curlers were easy to open, but the others were so tight I didn't think I would ever get them apart. I had to get help to get one of them out of my hair. I tried snapping and unsnapping each curler several times hoping to loosen them up, but that didn't really work. The curlers don't stay in my hair very well, even when linked together, but that is probably due to how thin and fine my hair really is. I rolled my just slightly damp hair and they are comfortable enough to sleep in, but they moved down so much that the curls were just in the lower half of the length of my hair. The curled part of my hair was not completely dry, but once I removed the curlers it dried in just a few minutes and the curls were very nice and lasted through the day (with finger combing only and some hairspray as my hair takes a curl readily but doesn't hold it). These might work better for someone with thicker hair than mine (and stronger fingers). The fabric is not of the best quality, and is fairly coarse, but the rollers are decently made with straight seams, and although plastic, the snaps are holding up well. There are a few loose threads here and there. The curlers arrived nicely packaged and there are some instructions and hints for use on the back. The current price of $14.00 seems a bit high for what they are.SuLu
I love vintage wet sets and had been alternating between those and heat sets for years, but my foam rollers have been looking ROUGH lately so when I saw these at Ulta I was like, "Eh! Why not??" My first set with these isn't perfect, but the curls are strong even after a few hours. My hair is naturally pin straight and usually responds best to heat curling so I am VERY satisfied with the results. The rollers are more firm than what I'm used to, so sleeping in them was a little harder, but with practice it should be fine. Because the rollers are encased in satin, your hair may slip out, but add more setting spray and rewrap and it should be fine. Even my strands that didn't stay away I well look good the next day! By the way, definitely wrap your head in a scarf, it holds it all together.Nina
My hair is almost to my waist, and thin. When using any curling iron, my hair will maybe get some waves but they do not last. Especially in the summer humidity. My hair has never been able to hold a curl. THESE THINGS WORKED FOR ME!! I can't believe it. I've used them twice. Once when my hair may have been too wet and I didn't read the instructions on how to "link" the rollers, but I still woke up with beachy waves! And they lasted all day! Couldn't believe it. Then I used them again last night on mostly dry hair, but misted my hair with a leave in conditioner, slept with these in, and I could not believe the curls and body I got. Seriously incredible! There was actually almost too much curl. Now, 12 hours later, I have beach waves, and so much body still. I still need to work with them a little, I don't like how the front of my hair turns out so I need to try a few things but…I'm in love with these. So happy with them. Highly recommend and may need to get a back up.BeBe
