Best Curling Cream For Men’S Hair (2024 Update)

So I’ve been searching the ends of he earth for something that will tame my frizz but show my curl. And let me tell you this is it! I swear by this product I also stock up when it’s on sale! I honestly have never been happier with the product! I will say application is EVERYTHING. I have a lot of hair so I separate it into for sections and with the 2 bottom section I put about 6-8 pumps in and work it in from root to ends, than I will take my brush through it to distribute the product than run my fingers through it to catch any excess product! I do the same with the top two sections however I use 6-7 pumps. I hope for anyone who tries it, it works and you love it as much as me!christina.a

This is by far the best hair curling creme I have come across! My hair is naturally curly but needs help keeping itself tamed. I have been using this product for years and it works wonders for my hair! This product works best when I apply it to freshly washed, wet hair and allowing it to curl and dry on its own! This is my new favorite hair product. As someone with a lot of hair, but very fine hair, it’s hard to find a product that doesn’t weigh me down- this allows for my hair to have shape and volume that lasts. The best results I’ve had came from using a denman brush to curl my hair, smoothing the roots over once. This method achieved beautiful formed waves for three days after. Verb is much less expensive than other curl products I’ve tried and it out performs all of them. I would highly recommend this to anyone with loose curls or waves, especially those with fine frizz prone hair like me. For reference I use this after I wash my hair with a kevin murphy cowash. Wow, I love this! I was hesitant because I see a lot of influencers use it and I always worry that that over hype things. But it really does reduce frizz and hold curl. A little goes a very long way, so it is easy to overdo it. My hair is 2C/3A and I live in a pretty dry climate and this was the perfect balance. I will say it did seem to "weigh down" my hair a bit more than other products, however, I'll take slightly less volume to have non-frizzy and light curls. I love Verb products. This one was new to me, but I had to try it. Glad I did! My tired, frizzy, permed curls were dying quickly. I needed a pick- me- up for them and this did the trick. A little, tiny bit goes a long way – all of Verb is like this. I love that because the product lasts, which means I'm not spending a fortune on hair, but getting a good, quality product. Also, the curl lasted all day until the next shower. It's not greasy, smells nice and not like a bunch of grocery store chemicals. BUYER BEWARE: There are two different Foxy Curls products floating around on Home Essentials Direct and they are VERY different. Some of the sellers have not updated their product pictures so you may not get what you think your getting. This review is for the Foxy Curls product with the WHITE cap. I returned the one with the green cap so I cannot comment on that product. I have been using this product for years and I absolutely love it. I am a white female in my 40's with long, thick curly hair that can be frizzy if not tamed. I've tried just about every product out there over the years and this is the only one that has worked for me. I apply it while my hair is wet (almost dripping). This makes a big difference with the final result. I apply quite a bit of it since my hair is very thick. I even apply it underneath my hair. I had to work on the amount I use. To much and it looks like crap. Not enough and it looks like crap so you have to find the amount that works for you. Also, after my hair is almost dry, I "un-crunch" it. This is super important. Some reviewers are saying their hair is stiff afterwards. And yes, it is, however, I carefully run my fingers through my hair as to almost comb it with my hands and soften it. This takes the "crunchy" look away and makes the curls soft but not frizzy. Again, there was some testing with this as to not un-crunch it while my hair is to wet or to dry. This is my review on the GREEN cap Foxy Curls. I applied the same application principals as the WHITE cap to compare apples to apples. I admit I was a bit skeptical since they are so different. This new formula is way thinner and goes on a bit easier. I found myself using less of it so that a big PRO! It kind of makes my hair feel a bit slimy when you apply it, but if the final results are what I want, this is not a big deal. After it dries a bit, I "un-crunched" it and the results are similar. It seems to control the frizz a bit better, but my curls seem more weighted down. I think I may have to work on the amount I use. So all in all, I'll still keep the 5 stars on the GREEN cap, since the end result is very similar and I don't seem to be using as much of it now. But I think I like the WHITE cap better. Maybe I just need to work with the new formula a bit more. UPDATE: I've been using the green cap product for months now and like it just as much or even better than the white cap. Again, I had to work on the amount I use. I use less with the green cap than the white. If I use to much, my hair looks a bit stringy. I got a haircut and was recommended this product. It smells good but it’s horrible in the hair. Tried it multiple times but it leaves frizz and residue. Used it today and it feels gross and sticky, and left my hair a tangled mess and I was forced to brush it and now I just have wash again and scrub out the residue. Disappointing. I have been in the market for a new hair gel that's good for my wavy/curly hair. Had been using DevaCurl's Light Defining Gel for a long time as it was just what I was looking for back a couple years ago. But recently I have developed some kind of allergy to it. Makes my scalp itch like crazy. So I gave this a shot with an Ulta hair stylist's recommendation. The bottle seemed small but I was willing to try a new product by a high regarded styling brand such as BedHead.The bottle had a nicely designed pump making it easy to use. I had not realized until I was done styling my hair with this product that I had used about half of the whole bottle to achieve the hold and shine I normally go for with my DevaCurl gel. I was quite shocked. Way too much product used for a brand I thought that would require only a very small amount of it's product to get the look I wanted. I would definitely not buying this cream again. I will stick to a gel because I tend to think that curl defining creams do not have a lot of hold or styling power as a gel would. I have 3B curls, processed hair that I highlight and color purple. I’m a hairstylist, so I take care of my curls. I need a curl cream with enough definition and hold to carry me through day 2, and possibly day 3. I used to love the original It’s a 10 styling cream as my go to curl cream. Nothing compared, and I tried many different products. So I was devastated when they discontinued it, I saw this and decided to give it a try. I have very fine, high porosity (very absorbent), blonde curly hair. I don't have the best of luck with styling creams, some work and some weigh my hair down, some feel very crispy, some make my hair look instantly greasy. This stuff works! I wash and condition (sun bum regular or Pacifica pineapple curls) and then put a little of this styling cream into my wet but not sopping wet hair. Then I sleep on it and in the morning my hair is good to go. Nice natural looking and feeling curls that stay in. As someone who has stick straight hair, I love this product. A disclaimer, my hair is not capable of getting that cute scrunched look. If I want curls, heat is my only option. I shower, add the styling cream (smells amazing), air dry overnight, and then curl in the morning. This is the only product that I have used that will help my hair hold the curls in all weather and all day. I also use very minimal hairspray after curling. This truly is a magic cream for super straight hair that doesn’t hold a curl!becka

My hair is living her best life with this curl cream!! I've been Garnier-loyal for over 10 years, but after one use of this cream, I was sold. I have 3 different textures of hair: the front/sides are soft, tight spirals, the back is frizzy, tight spirals, and the underneath is soft and wavy at most. This curl cream brings out the best in all 3 textures and makes all of my hair wildly soft!! I've been a huge fan of Sun Bum for a few years now, so I was amped when I saw that they made special curly hair products! This costs about twice as much as my old curl cream, however, I use about 1/2 to 2/3 what I used to use, and my hair is 10 times as happy. Plus, I trust Sun Bum's commitment to loving the ocean, which is an important factor to consider when choosing your products. I am about 1 year into my CGM journey, and at this point – I rarely find products that work as well as my hair's natural oils. Even though I try to avoid shampoo, when I do use it (before hot tools or after about 3-4 weeks of conditioner rinses) I need to add a bit of moisture to make up for what I've rid my curls of. I tried this product after a wash day. It is one of the only products I've tried recently that actually feels natural in my hair. It helps to define curls and rid frizz. It dries with a light cast, but just enough for my hair to clump not enough to leave a waxy/dry texture like other competing products. I rarely feel comfortable using only one product. It's either a natural look sans products, or a mix of products (leave-in, oil, cream, maybe gel and spray etc., Depending on the style). This product is a mix of both worlds; leaves my hair natural looking without being too fluffy, yet offers enough moisture and oil for clumping without being heavy. Love the shine it adds. Ouai Curl Crème saves time for me since it's a cream + oil + hydrator + styling product. Great for traveling with. Easy to refresh dry hair with or style wet hair with. The scent is so luxuriously floral yet sweet, the packaging looks elegantly simple, and the bit about the "ex" on the packaging gave me a good chuckle. Ouai Curl Crème has my curls screaming, "oui, oui!" I have natural roots, ends relaxed and dyed (damaged), mix of curl textures (2b-3c), long length. This product is clearly a creme that is not shy to define, and give your hair a subtle yet noticeable shine. IMMEDIATELY after drenching my hair in water, and applying the product, I barely had to touch my hair, and the definition was VERY apparent. Y'all, when I say, I was shook… I have never in all of my 21 years of life had a product instantly define my hair upon application. I barely had to finger comb. It for sure provides a nice element of moisture as well, and I find that the more I've used it these past couple of weeks, the softer my hair is getting. I'm not 100% sure if it's this product, or some of the other products that I've been using in my hair for the time being, but I do know that this is clearly the moisture and defining agent in the squad of hair products I've been using. This product has chia & linseed oil, babassu oil, and coconut oil in it, which are clearly carrying the product and running so that it doesn't even have to jog on it's own. Babassu oil is known as an oil that promotes high moisture retention, which seals the moisture into your hair shaft (ideal for high porosity hair types), and you know lack of moisture retaining products in your haircare routine is one of the #1 causes for breakage. Chia seeds are rich in fatty acids which work to not only penetrate your hair shaft (great for low porosity hair types), but seal in the moisture as well. Linseed oil is the same as flaxseed oil, which is high in vitamin E, and not only treats hair loss, but promotes growth. For my dry scalp peeps, flaxseed oil also can be used to prevent dandruff, and can provide relief. If you have damaged hair, or chemically processed hair, this is very ideal, since it has great moisture retaining properties, and it seals damaged cuticles. I have pretty curly hair but it's very fine and I was worried this cream would be too heavy but that is not the case at all! I use this on my hair while it's wet by section with a denman brush and my curls look incredible. if you diffuse, it creates a great mask for the curls that you can brush out after. my curls seriously last 3 days through workouts, sleep (I plop/pineapple my hair without a bonnet and they stay!) DC humidity, all of it. Overall not a bad hair product, and gives you the light hold it advertises. I tried it on both wet and dry hair and the results are a bit different. If you want to get a bit more hold I'd say apply it while your hair is still damp. If you're just looking to tame flyaways and freshen up your hair go for it dry. Only slight negative is the scent. Has a distinct barber shop kind of scent, which is not my taste but I know a lot of guys will probably like it. I also really appreciated that it came packaged with no additional plastic, in a recycled cardboard box. The last thing we need is more plastic junk in a landfill.hanklecankle123

Pretty nice cream! Definitely has a better hold than it gives itself credit for. Only need a small amount, meaning it will last a long time. Although I was actually hoping for a lighter hold and lighter cream. Don't love the smell, smells a bit chemical-y, like most hair gels/sprays, but you don't smell it once it's in your hair and you've washed your hands. I haven't used this product in a long time. I do remember it very clearly. I bought this at one of the discounted or liquidated stores. If I remember right it was either t.j. Maxx or Burlington. It is very Vivid in my imagination that I was trying to do everything to get rid of it. I know it stayed in my downstairs bathroom with a little bit left in the bottle. I hated the residue that it left on my hair and the lack of my hair feeling clean after using this. My ex-husband was very bad about using the last of a product once it got down to the bottom of it. It sat in his shower downstairs until one day I used the last of it. I always thought it was a product for men and that was a reason that I never bought it again. Anyone who dyes their hair copper knows that copper pigmented hair dye will not stay onto the hair particle for long. A brand new copper color hair do will last about a week or two before it fades into a honey brown color, and eventually a yellow-brown color. With this in mind, there are products that will help to prolong the dye coloration and slow down the fade process, and I turn to Redken shampoo every time​ to get the job done whenever I need to prolong my copper dye. I use this along with the Redken conditioner Color Extend and shampoo three x a week, conditioner once a week, and my copper pigmented color will last about 2 months before it fades onto a honey brown and eventually to a yellowish brown by the 4 months mark. Which is a major improvement from other regular Shampoo options in the market. This also has a great scent and will leave your hair super soft and manageable.keyline.d

Fantastic product. I have a full head of hair but the strands are very thin and this keeps my hair in place without the gel look other products do. Has a great aroma and is easy to use. Just a small dab works for my entire head. Can be restyled a couple times throughout the days with a little water. Have used for a couple months now and have had no regrets. I have used the American Crew Fiber and Pomade. This product, the "Forming Cream" I would describe as the middle, the perfect balance. My hair is thick, somewhat coarse, yet soft. I wear my hair short, almost like a buzz and usually let it grow longer so that I can comb it over (by longer I'm talking 4-5 inches on the top, sometimes more). What I didn't like about Fiber is that it can be too clay like and usually made my hair too stiff. I found fiber to work best the shorter my hair was, but even then it was a super strong and stiff hold. It was actually working as intended, but not to my liking. What I didn't like about Pomade was the high shine and depending on how much used, greasy feel to my hair. And once again, you buy Pomade for the shine, so working as intended but not to my liking.dipen.p

I'll be honest, its a little sticky but its manageable. My husband and my 12 year old son use it religiously. They both like it because not much product is needed and it lasts all day, if you have pretty thick hair maybe use a little more product or you may have to apply it twice. I searched for almost 20 years to find the perfect "potion" mixture for my hair. I'm sure a lot of curly haired individuals out there can empathize with this struggle. Some creams were too heavy, left my hair crunchy with buildup, etc. I'd tried every brand on the market, from drug store to higher end products (ouidad, devacurl, redken, Paul Mitchell- basically any top rated curl brand) if you have fine, curly& color treated hair, I would highly suggest this product. I have been using for 7 years now and will continue to have this as part of my daily regimen. My routine: out of shower- put on it's a 10 keratin leave in, Kendra cream and dry with diffuser. Finish off with pueology shining hair drops for color treated hair and awapuhi anti frizz hairspray. I pair this with Kenra's Airdry Cream with great results. My hair is high porosity and takes forever to dry. I also live in a high humidity location. That extra dry time caused the curl cream to struggle when used alone resulting in frizz. Additionally the weight of my own hair left my curls without volume on top. I knew it wasn't the product so I paired the curl cream with air dry cream. Pairing the airdry cream with the curl cream helped the curl cream define and hold better while eliminating the frizz. I get lots of compliments when I use these two products together.RD

I have short wavy hair that gets pretty frizzy in the Louisiana heat. I've tried a million products, expensive and not, and this stuff is the BEST. I put in a pretty good amount to keep my waves defined and let it air dry and it keeps away the frizz and keeps my waves tight but natural looking and not disheveled. If I put too much I can just lightly scrunch my dried hair and the product ends up looking super natural and not crunchy. Great product for a great price.AveryK

Out of all the new products that come out, I some how go back to this Styling Creme. I have 4C hair, but this is the only product that gives me a great twistout. I do have to agree with the other comments about that it dries the hair, but a quick fix to that I found was to use a oil after you finish twisting your hair and again before you take your twist out. When I tried that my hair was soft, no crunching feeling. I also use Mixed Chick Hairdress. I don't think the stores sell it, but I brought directly from their website.Debbie

I am afraid to rate this product so highly because I do not want too many people to discover it, leading to further product shortage. However, I have been using this product for years on my natural curly, high porosity hair because it is super moisturizing and is the only product that works no matter the climate/humidity. I pair it with either KC or Ecostyle for additional hold. I am a loyal customer so please don't ever change the formula.Kenni

I’ve seen some say that this stuff doesn’t moisturize. While that is true, I mix mine with a moisturizer. NOT ALOT otherwise the affect it has on the hair makes it look strange.
Also, best used on damp hair or wet hair. Not dripping wet, but wet.

I have wavy curls so my hair isn’t nearly as curly as some on here, but it does do the job. I suggest mixing Maui moisturize hair care with it to help not only with the smell if you don’t like it, but make your hair less likely to feel dry.
As for the smell, it smells like mango. But it’s a bit bitter. Almost tangy smell. It’s hard to explain but with the moisturizer, it’ll add that that sweet smell of coconut to even the smell out.Potatochip Blueberry

This is the only gel that makes me hair curly/ wavy after I put it on, I don’t need to scrunch my hair to see results, it just starts to curl. After that of course I scrunch it to my desire of curliness* but this is in my top 5 of gels. I don’t like gels bc they contain a lot of harsh stuff that can damage and dry out your hair but this here is the best! You won’t go wrong and the smell is like.. in between masculine and feminine. I can’t describe the smell but in my opinion is smells great. Definitely not fruity, it’s smells woodsy I guess but again I’m not good at describing this. I have fine curly hair that misbehaves between cuts, especially if I’m trying to grow it out. A combination of this product and the REDKEN CURVACEOUS RINGLET works really well as leave in conditioning products. I adjust the balance as my hair grows. If I need more weight I use slightly more of this product. If my hair is long enough and has good weight and needs definition or fly away management, I use the other.Donna T

This spray does give your hair a boost that probably couldn’t be achieved otherwise. It is in liquid form that you spray on your roots and let it do it’s magic. The reason I am giving it three stars is the condition it leaves your hair of the areas the product was applied to. It feels like it has been back combed. I like my hair to feel natural, regardless of which products are used. When wearing this, I am unable to run my fingers through my hair for instance. This stuff is pure MAGIC! You only need a tiny spritz on the roots. This product is tricky, here is how I recommend using it. On clean wet hair, spray in your leave in conditioner/ moisturizing products first, then rough Blowdry your hair to about 60% dry, then as you Blowdry your hair, use this product on your roots section by section at the root. A little goes a long way so you don’t need to spray it all over, one spray at the root is enough per section to give you volume and hold that will last for days. If you spray too much, your hair will be hard to manage and hard to put a brush through so just a small spritz is enough! This product Can last you forever!!!! I recently bought American Crew Fiber Cream 3.3 oz (not the first time via Walmart online)but this time the bottle had some transparent and very liquid substance inside instead of a creamy fiber texture. I still have the old one and the labels on the bottles are the same "American Crew Fiber Cream". I'm wondering if you change the formulation if this is that product batch mistake and I should return it to the store.Mikk

Forgive me if I go into too many details about my haircare regimen, but I know the curly girls out there that need to know for this review. I use leave-in conditioner, curl cream/definer, followed by gel for my curls, then scrunch with serum once it's dry and set. I used the Pacifica Curl Definitely Defining cream as my second step product, and it worked well, better than other brands of similar price point. My hair had good definition and volume for a few days. But my real issue with it, is why does it come in such a small container. WHY?? Anyone who has curly hair knows they use a lot of product. I'm mad about it. 4 oz?! That's two weeks of product for me. So I use this as my travel curl cream, but I do not use this on a daily basis because frankly I'm mad about it.Kathleen

I am always hesitant about curl creams and them being to heavy and weighing down my curls, but I absolutely love this one. I started with the smaller size in case I didn’t like it and I quickly had to get the full size because I loved it so much. My curls don’t get frizzy with just stepping out the front door in the FL heat anymore. It’s does a great job with keeping my curls clumped while keeping it still feeling like hair. I LOVE this hair cream!! I found it "by accident" when I was on vacation and forgot my hair gel. I bought a travel-sized one at the health food store there and was NOT disappointed! I was so excited to find a Pacifica product, as they are my favorite. I've been using the Salty Beach Waves hair balm for over 2 years, and now this Pineapple Swirl is right up there with it. I had to buy a regular size. I have a lot of curl in my hair and this really defines and amplifies the curls! It also cuts down the frizz. A little goes a long way, too! I put about a dime-sized of it in my hair when it's almost dry and I'm good to go! I love the natural ingredients and the smell is divine and not at all overbearing. I have wavy, curly, coarse hair and am African American. My hair can get very tangled and frizzy. My hair tends to do well with products that have oils, especially coconut oil. I need a lot of moisture for my hair and a lot of product. I like this product because the smell is light and slightly fruity but not overwhelming. The texture is med/thick but definitely not too thick, it's just right. It does not seem like it will weigh my hair down. I did use water and some detangling spray to comb my hair out my tangles and to get my wave pattern, then I used a quarter-sized amount in the front half of my hair then the same amount in the back. When I was young my mom used to tell me. "don't put all that water in your hair, it will dry it out". As I got older and tried a variety of products. I realized that I NEED water and detangling spray; it helps to bring out the texture so it is not dry and frizzy but it will not dry your hair out as long as you keep your hair moisturized with oils and creams like this one that is designed to help your curl pattern and defrizz your hair. I think this cream provided my hair the moisture it needed and smoothed out most of my frizz and helped my waves to look nice. I would recommend to others.Es B.

Based on recs from two friends, I purchased "Honey, That's How I Roll" "Wavy Baby" and "One Hit Wonder." I have been straightening or keratin'ing my hair since I was 13. I HATE my natural frizzy Jewish curly hair and have not worn it naturally for most of my life. Enter pandemic and my hair had to be the LEAST of my problems. With no keratin or haircut in sight, I decided to embrace the curls. Not only do these products smell delicious, they are incredibly effective and I actually love how my hair looks. They've enhanced the ringlets, tampered the frizz and don't make my hair too voluminous. It hits all the sweet spots and after almost 20 years of hiding my natural hair, it's au natural this summer. I received this sample size product complimentary to try from Influenster and Moroccanoil for my honest review and opinion. I really liked the smell of this cream. My hair is kinda weird it’s curly underneath but on top it’s more wavy and frizzy. The parts where my hair is naturally more curly curled super pretty and looked great but the wavier pieces it didn’t change much. It felt a little heavy also but I may have just used to much product. I feel i would need to use it a few more times to give a more accurate review but right now I’d say it’s an average curl defining cream. I also let my hair air dry and I’m curious how it would look if I used a diffuser. I think I’ll end up buying a full size and give it a try. My daughter also has curlier hair than I do and I feel it may be better with her texture and curl. Overall I liked it and would recommend it for anyone with curlier hair.Meliss86

I LOVE this product and this whole brand. I was sent a sample of the curl defining cream and the smell won me over instantly. It just makes your hair smell so good. My husband thought it was my shampoo or conditioner, but he told me my hair smelt so good the first time I used this product. I even went and bought the perfect defense heat protector spray after they sent me this sample. I use it after I curl my hair with my straightener and it just makes my hair smell amazing, reduces any frizz left, and makes my curls bouncy. I also let my daughter use it and she loved it as well. She has super curly ringlets and used it after a shower and her curls looked so good. They were bouncy and frizzless. Received this as a free sample from Influenster. The sample size was a bit too small for me to get a full idea of how this product works for my hair specifically as I usually need a few weeks of use to make a fair judgement, but from a limited perspective, my takeaways are as follows: Smell- amazing, the standard MoroccanOil smell Texture- I prefer styling creams and used this in place of my current one and I did notice that this left a bit of a shell to my hair after use. If I had enough to try again, I may use a bit less product next time, though I didn’t use much. Seems pretty concentrated. If I had received a full bottle, I do think I’d continue to use it until it ran out but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this item. Everyone’s hair is different and mine reacted sort of “meh.” Not bad but not impressive either. I think fans of the line will not regret the purchase, however I didn’t find that I had any urge to switch from my current styling cream (although this one smells so much better)roxanneh
