Forgive me if I go into too many details about my haircare regimen, but I know the curly girls out there that need to know for this review. I use leave-in conditioner, curl cream/definer, followed by gel for my curls, then scrunch with serum once it's dry and set. I used the Pacifica Curl Definitely Defining cream as my second step product, and it worked well, better than other brands of similar price point. My hair had good definition and volume for a few days. But my real issue with it, is why does it come in such a small container. WHY?? Anyone who has curly hair knows they use a lot of product. I am always hesitant about curl creams and them being to heavy and weighing down my curls, but I absolutely love this one. I started with the smaller size in case I didn’t like it and I quickly had to get the full size because I loved it so much. I’ve have now used this styling gel for 3 separate wash n go combinations and I LOVE it. It’s not tacky/sticky and gives moisture, deep definition, and HOLD! For Type 4 curl girls, using this gel in combo with the Pom and honey coiling custard is a dynamic duo! I’ve been looking for a solid gel from Mielle for my hair type and this one takes the cake! Here lately I’ve had an issue with flaking when using my wetline xtreme gel for hold. I have tried a few products for my hair including shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioners, and co-washes but none of them did the job like the pomegranate and honey products. I recently asked my aunt to purchase the pomegranate and honey shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, honey coil sculpting custard, and the co-wash, and my mom and I are obsessed. The shampoo and conditioner made my hair look and feel healthy and it moisturized and cleaned my hair thoroughly. After coming out of the shower my hair was detangled and healthy. I am a fairly loyal user of As I Am curl jelly, but my local Sally was out of stock. I was reluctant to use the Mielle line as I had tried the original line of Mielle curl products in the past and it wasn’t enough moisture, weight, etc to nourish and define my curls. I love this this product! Finally something that does NOT make my hair more frizzy, crunchy, dry or greasy. I have fine to medium curly long hair, I am of Eastern European descent. I just use a very small amount like directions advised, worked it into my wet hair, scrunched it with my hands and let air dry. My hair is sooo soft, no frizz and my curls are defined. I have been searching for a natural product without chemicals that actually works. I love it! It also has a tropical fragrance that is not overwhelming and smells so good! I found this product yearssss ago when I first started the Curly Girl Method. It was very runny, white and much lighter. I ended up repurchasing it and when I opened it, it is incredibly yellow and thick and the ingredient list is completely different. I bought this product not knowing my hair type which is my bad. So if you have low porosity hair like me, this product might not be the best for you. I used this weekly and found that my hair felt extra greasy and had a lot of build up. The butters caused weighed down my curls and they still had a lot of frizz. This cream is hands down my favorite of all time! I had been ordering it every time it came available through Ipsy, but was so excited to find it at ULTA with a whole family of Cake products at such a good price! I absolutely love this product. It smells great, but isn’t overpowering. It works great on my hair, tames the frizz, defines my curls and makes my hair look and feel super soft. No stiffness! I would highly recommend this product to anyone with natural curly hair. It performs far better than many more expensive products I have tried! I had high hopes for this product since I love their hair spray so much, but it leaves way too much icky residue on my waves. I have fine high-porosity 2B hair down to my mid-back, and only used a quarter-sized blob on lengths before air-drying (I don't use gel or mousse on top when it's just casual styling). Once my hair is detangled with a Denman-type brush and the waves are formed, I don't touch it so as not to disturb the curl clumps (that's the secret for pretty mermaid waves) I was very disappointed and surprised to feel how sticky my hair was after it was dried. There was so much icky product residue I could feel it on my hands, I literally had to wash my hands every time I touched my hair. I tried using even smaller amounts but it felt the same. My waves came out nice, but I just can't handle sticky residue when other products can hold my waves just as well without the stickiness. Maybe it's because I have fine hair, and the product would be better suited for thick/coarse hair? It's possible. I don't usually leave reviews for beauty products, but I have to say that I finally found hair products that work for my fine, frizzy, curly hair. I was skeptical but decided to give the Cake product line a try because it wasn't too expensive and Ulta was having a sale. I used DevaCurl for a long time, but recently noticed changes to their products. As a result, I started looking for replacement products and have tried Aveda, Quidad, Curlsmith, Not Your Mothers and a ton of other curly hair products that either didn't have enough hold or had too much hold. I have been searching for products that define my curls without frizz and this curl cream along with the Cake mousse is perfect! I style my hair right out of the shower. I start with Cake's leave-in conditioner spray. I use the Cake mousse to give my hair hold and volume and style with the curl cream using the styling techniques I learned from watching #manesbymell. I am pretty sensitive when it comes to smell and all of the products consistently smell the same, which is good when you using several at a time. The smell is sweet, but it is not overpowering. I've been using this brand for a few years. Recently I tried a cheaper brand but it was not the same. I am 60 years and my hair has become coarse. Also, I use henna on my hair which tends to dry it a little on the ends. My hair is very long so the ends get dry and brittle. I use this hair cream on the bottom half of my hair. Like the softness it gave. Two of my bottles pump didn't work. Its nothing like the old product and there was picture of the same brown bottle for which I have purchased from Sally's before not Walmart. I was expecting to see the brown bottle. It appears that the picture on the website wasn't updated on Walmart Site . I was charged for the price of the size of that brown bottle not the product that was sent in a different bottle and of a smaller size containing a lesser amount from the same company. I like this curl defining cream, but you have to put it in wet hair. I tried putting it in my hair dry it just left a sticky feeling in my hair really didn't help my curls. But when I put it in my hair wet, it defines all my curls makes them smooth with no frizzies. I'd give it a 3.5, but I rounded up to a 4. It was a gift, so I don't know the price point. Because you have to put it in wet hair, I probably wouldn't buy it for myself. I like more versatile creams. But other people may have a different experience.stacey.m

This is the first R&Co product I've used, and I'm happy with it so far. It makes my natural wavy/curly hair feel softer and more moisturized without weighing it down or feeling thick or greasy. It has a nice scent and it's easy to apply. I use this to ward off frizz and to add shine and nourishment to my curls. Out of all the new products that come out, I some how go back to this Styling Creme. I have 4C hair, but this is the only product that gives me a great twistout. I do have to agree with the other comments about that it dries the hair, but a quick fix to that I found was to use a oil after you finish twisting your hair and again before you take your twist out. When I tried that my hair was soft, no crunching feeling. I also use Mixed Chick Hairdress. I don't think the stores sell it, but I brought directly from their website.Debbie

I have wavy curls so my hair isn’t nearly as curly as some on here, but it does do the job. I suggest mixing Maui moisturize hair care with it to help not only with the smell if you don’t like it, but make your hair less likely to feel dry.
As for the smell, it smells like mango. But it’s a bit bitter. Almost tangy smell. It’s hard to explain but with the moisturizer, it’ll add that that sweet smell of coconut to even the smell out.Potatochip Blueberry

I'm a natural with 4a/4b hair that mainly does wash n goes. I wanted a gel to layer for hold that had better ingredients than eco and wetline. I planned to use this as a topper. I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. This is not going to give you much definition alone. Use this for additional hold and control. Overall, I think I would purchase again and I'm interested in trying their strong hold gel.Jasmine
I love this product. After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give. My hair is fine and subject to droop with most curl creams. I’ve tried ones that cost upwards of $45 and finally tried this one. I was immediately impressed! It does initially leave a bit of crunch into your hair. If you like the wet look, this is for you. However, once it dries, it can be scrunched out a bit and all of the curl/wave still remains. This smells SO GOOD. The smell alone makes me want to taste it, it smells like coconut cream. It’s also thick and locks in moisture while also adding definition. I have a very sensitive scalp; anything heavily fragranced causes me to break out. When other companies change the scent of their products or production, I have serious reactions and have to switch immediately. I also have latina curly hair. After looking at many different products, I decided to give this one a try because fragrance is very low on the list of ingredients. I was not disappointed. This cream is thick and, when rubbed in your palm to warm it up, will spread nicely on the hair. A little goes a long way! I recommend using on wet hair. I do not use anything before this product and I seal it with a styling gel (for FL weather). It gives a decent second day hair style. I also noticed my ponytail hair looks better on day one and two; my hair is not so frizzy at the ends. I did not give 5 stars for one SMALL simple reason, it is difficult to run your fingers through your hair after you put it on. With curly hair of course this is not my intent, I scrunch my hair after, but unintentionally I have done it a few times and the ends feel thick, gritty, and dead if you try. I had been searching for the perfect curl cream for my daughter for years. Trying to find something that wasn’t crunchy or greasy led me to buy all kinds of random products. I have short 2C-3A, fine, low porosity and density hair. It’s important for my hair to use extremely lightweight products. With that said, I do not use gels in my hair at all. My hair creates a cast with almost all products even if I use a dime size amount. (Short hair, so it gets weighed down easily and casted easily) So when I saw this product I thought I’d give it a chance. The curl creme isn’t the most liquidity (like I prefer), it’s actually a bit thicker but not too thick. So I tried it, about a penny size amount after applying my own choice of leave in conditioner and let it air dry and then used the diffuser to eliminate the caste. I. Was. In. Shock. The definition, softness, frizz control that it gave me. With short hair, it’s very hard to get individualized curl definition and frizz free results. I cannot say how my hair will be day 3, 4 hair, but at least for day 1-2 it’s great results. Super happy.

It's not often i find something for my curly hair that just works and i need to review to hopefully help others in their curly hair journey. I have a mixture of tight and loose curls and ringlets but my hair is prone to frizz. It doesn't matter what i put on my hair and i have tried everything, 2 days later i have a halo of frizz. This cream is amazing, definitely a holy grail for me. I use it as a curl cream (leave in) and 6 days later i still have no frizz. This is unheard of. I love the creamy texture, don't be put off by the oil in the name as it's not greasy at all. It leaves my hair soft, bouncy, defined and shiny. Yes shiny, something curly girls know is hard to achieve. I follow up with either the souffle or gel and hover over with my diffuser so as not to break the cast. Then finally use the serum to scrunch in. My hair has never looked or smelled so good. Worth every penny and i have literally paid a fortune for those sponsored curly hair brands that pop up but leave your hair feeling like straw and do nothing for your curls.Kirsty
Curlsmith gifted me a free sample of this conditioner in exchange for my honest opinion. This cream is rather rich, but you need very little product, so it doesn't weigh down the hair. I'd start with a dime-sized amount and add more as needed. I tried it on two different textures, 3C and 4C, both shoulder length. I got the best results using a nickel-sized and quarter-sized amount, respectively. It makes both curls and coils look healthy, shiny, and hydrated. It doesn't weigh hair down, and I love, most of all, that it doesn't leave hair feeling soft, not crunchy. It looks fabulous and actually feels like hair! I have to note that following the directions is crucial for my desired results, especially on coily hair. I comb it out completely before washing, and constantly rake my fingers through it while washing and conditioning to keep it detangled Once the Oil-In Cream is raked through soaking wet hair, I use the recommended praying hands method to cover the strands as best I can, but I also gently tug as I go to elongate the coils. I find this helps immensely with shrinkage. Tie it up and fluff it in the morning and it's good for 2-3 days without reapplication, unless you feel like a little additional moisture. If you wash weekly, it doesn't leave hair a sticky, greasy mess, either. Overall, while using this cream takes a few extra minutes of care, the results are well worth the effort. Also, considering the amount needed even on thick hair, this jar holds a good amount of product. This is my first experience with the Curlsmith brand, and I'm delighted that it does what it says. I have heard great things about this product on media platforms that I decided to give it a go. I purchased the smaller tub for my first purchase incase it did not agree with my hair. I have tried many products over the years and many products claim to do wonders for curly hair and these many products have ended up being a let down. This product without question does exactly what is says on the tin. From my first use I could see the difference and feel the difference it made to my curls. I have 2c/3a curls. This cream is thick and a little goes a long way. It did not way my hair down at all. My curls were tighter and so much shine to them. There is no cast or crunch. My curls are so soft. I have long, fine, curly hair that can be a bit unruly and loves to frizz out in the summer humidity. I try to wash it only two times a week so I was excited to try the curl reactivator to see if it helps revive my curls. It works great in tandem with other curl products like the curl mousse. However, if it's the sole product you are using on your hair I will say that it's not enough to combat frizz, for me at least. That being said, it definitely does what says, it revives curls, especially ones that are 2+ days old. It doesn't weigh down the hair and make it greasy. My hair feels really soft after using. Really nice lightweight product that is perfect for wave/curl touch ups. If I’m honest, this isn’t too much different in performance to a watered down hair conditioner, but I love the convenience and that they got the ratio right. I have thinning hair and I love that this product doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it oily/greasy at all. To get the most out of this product, I like to slightly dampen with water and then go in with this. Not necessary to take that added step, but it helps stretch out the product more. I got this at the store today because I am trying to embrace my wavy hair for the summer and put less heat on it. I originally went to get the lightweight curl cream and figured I would get both. I tried this today on day 2 hair and I’m pretty impressed. It reformed my curls and took the frizz away. The only reason I deducted a star is because I felt like I needed to spray my hair with water to get the full effect. I was hoping this alone would do the trick. I will still continue to use this though and maybe on day 3,4,5 I can use without water. I have hair extensions as well and it works on them too. Of all of the curling creams I have tried this is by far my favorite! It does a good job at defining my curls and holding them into place. It also works really well when I want to do a twist out. I love the fact that it does not make my hair feel too hard and it smells delightful! To top it all off it only cost around 7 or 8 bucks! I ridiculously love this product. The smell is the best smell I have ever had on my hair. There is one product I use reluctantly because the smell is atrocious, but it works well, but this product is PERFECTION. My tangled hair detangles immediately and I only wish the smell would last all day long OR that they'd make more products with this smell.

I have 4a/4c hair. I've used this product twice. So, it doesn't readily absorb into my hair. I applied it by finger raking it through soaking wet hair in the shower. And this is the only product I used after thoroughly rinsing my conditioner. However, after allowing my hair to set for 2 hours I blow dried it and the product sunk into my hair without a problem. I got super defined soft coils with effortless volume which I love. My biggest issue with this product is that something in the ingredients irritates my scalp. I'm sitting here trying to focus on studying, but my scalp is itchy, and I don't have time to do my hair again right now. So I will have to return this to the store. To start with, the smell is amazing! I love getting little whiffs of my hair as I move my head or the wind blows. I want to order other Cantu Avocado products from this smell alone! I’m not impressed. Heavy for my fine 4C hair. But what bothers me most is the clumping of the product at the ends of my hair. Almost immediately after applying, I noticed tiny, almost imperceptible flakes on my forehead, in my eyelashes, and on my face. I thought my eyes were irritated by dust in the air. Then realized that the tiny specks on the inside of the lens of my eyeglasses were coming from my hair. I can’t recommend this product for that reason alone.
Kinda works but the smoothing gel with the as I am leave in gives me much better definition on my 3c/4a hair. I used those two with ecostyler as my final step and my hair never looked better. Also my hair stayed moisturized with essentially no tangles for over a week. That has never happened to me b4 using any styling combo. That said, I will not be purchasing the curling jelly again an will stick with the smoothing gel. Another plus with a spooning Joe is that you do not have to use it on soaking wet hair as you do with the jelly . So a lot less messy of a styling process.dKayTx
