First off, I've only been using this iron for a few weeks so I can't speak to the longevity of the product. However, what I can say is I am so impressed by my results so far! I have thick, coarse, medium-to-long hair and this makes it so smooth and soft. It glides effortlessly through my hair and my hair doesn't get snagged anywhere or create any unflattering crimps, because the clamp is not too tight and the texture of the plates are so silky. With the long barrel, it would be very hard to get tangles or have hair spill over the end as you curl. So it's very beginner friendly for someone who is not used to a standard curling iron with a clamp. For me personally, all it takes is for the iron to be heated to 390, a little medium hold hairspray to set, and these curls will last for days! Of course on the second day, it goes from a full curl to more of a soft wave.. but that soft wave looks great and lasts a full 3 days. Personally I wash my hair twice a week so I haven't really tested longer than that. I'm sure that as with any iron, results will depend on hair type, technique, and the products you use in conjunction with it. For me I'm very pleased. Overall, I was apprehensive about the price but as long as this iron holds up over time, I think it's a terrific investment.anonymous7373
The long barrel is great. The only problem (the most important) is that it doesn't hold a curl. Curls died within an hour or two, on the highest temp setting. I tried it 4 different times with a variety of techniques (different styling products, dirty hair, longer curl time, days with less humidity, etc) and I struck out every time. I reverted back to my old curling wand yesterday to see if my hair was the issue. It worked beautifully. I still have some curl left today. Sad to return.Hayley
My stylist uses this every time I get my hair done and always gives the perfect laid back loose curl. I have a ton of styling tools but convinced myself that I needed this because of the long barrel. I have medium length (slightly below shoulder length) hair and was able to curl my hair so easily without needing to tug or re-wrap my hair around the barrel. I also love that you can optimize the heat based on your hair type. It heats up to 430 degrees but I ended up using 360 and didn’t feel like it was drying my hair. The instructions for how to lock the temp are on the handle. You’ll definitely want to lock your temperature setting – because of the location of the +/- buttons, you end up hitting these multiple times while curling your hair which would be so frustrating if you couldn’t lock down your temp. I do have very long hair but it’s very fine. It doesn’t matter if I put an inch of hair half an inch or a small strand of hair it just like bogged up. This CHI spin and curl has been absolutely life changing for me. I have incredibly thick and long hair (hair down to my bum) and there’s A LOT of it, so I have never been able to fully curl my hair and it remain curled for long because of how heavy it is. It would also take on average about 3 hours to curl my full head of hair with a traditional curler. With the Spin n Curl, I am able to curl my entire head of hair within TWENTY MINUTES. yes. I spent months trying to decide which automatic hair curler I was going to buy. After reading umpteen reviews and watching umpteen YouTube videos on every automatic hair curler on the market, I finally decided to the CHI and got an excellent deal on eBay. I'd watched so many women use this and read the directions, I couldn't wait to use it. Either get some life back in my hair with curls or cut it short. I really thought it would be easy and quick to get long bouncy beach waves. I was wrong about everything! The CHI is very awkward to hold, very heavy and too wide of a handle. It heated up very quickly which was good. But trying to grab 1/2" to 3/4" wide of hair is difficult. And trying to get that hair into the curler was near to impossible! The curler has to be held with a specific side to your head, the same side with the small cutout where you put your hair in. Trying to do this while looking into a mirror really threw me off. After about 6 tries to get hair in I finally did it, had it set on medium heat for 15 seconds, and although I could actually smell my hair burning I waited the whole 15 seconds. When I released the hair it was very hot with barely any curl at all. I would have done better with my old curling iron or plastic rollers. I continued to try and experimentedwith various temperature settings and the longer hold time which is 19 seconds. Every single time my hair got immediately tangled up inside the curler. I was terrified I would either burn my hair off or it would get so tangled in the machine I couldn't get it out and have to cut my hair out of it! Luckily that didn't happen but I did have to lose a bunch of hairs in the process. After maybe a total of 20 minutes I gave up completely. I don't know how others can use this. I don't know how they manage to get their hair into a small opening that's facing their hair and actually have the thing take hold of the hair. I definitely think it would work better if there were cutouts on both sides of the machine so you weren't forced to try to get hair in while having to work within the small opening with the sides in the way. This definitely is not for me and I'm extremely disappointed. If it weren't so heavy and awkward to hold, and I had three hands, I probably could have done it! Unfortunately, the seller doesn't accept returns, so I'll give it to someone more coordinated than me. But don't let my bad experience stop you from buying the CHI if that's what you've set your heart on, just be sure to get it somewhere that accepts returns, just in case.rosie55555
This curler really does work! It just has a learning curve. These are the steps I do to get it to work: 1. Take a small section of hair that’s long & narrow, not a wide section. 2. If starting from the top of your hair shaft, hold the curler close to your head, fit the hair piece in between the plastic V on top of the curler. You can either hold onto the hair piece still or let it go so it’s just hanging down. 3. Push the wind button. If you want curls to face inward you push the button on the outside of the curler, if you want curls that curl away from your face then push the button closest to your ear. 4. After some trial and error you will be able to tell right away if the hair is winding correctly by the way it feels and the noise it makes. 5. You can curl certain sections even if your hair is long. To do this you have to grab your hair from where you want it to start and wrap it around your finger like in the instruction booklet. You then repeat the steps above by putting the hair in between the V. It will wrap it from that section onward. The biggest trick here is **the hair has to fit in between the plastic V on top of the curler** The most unfortunate part is you can’t get so close to your root, but the curls are still pretty!Karen
Omg. This thing is a time saver, I have relatively long thick hair so it takes at least 45min-1hr to curl my hair. Now with this? 15-20min I genuinely am shocked. The first time I took 25 min but that’s only because I didn’t know how to use it properly lol. My hair gets stuck sometimes when I put too much in (they advise against it lol) but even when it gets “stuck” it immediately shuts off and a warning beep alarms me to remove my hair. It doesn’t hurt either. I like how depending on the time you can do loose to poodle curles so it’s very versatile. I’m buying both my sister and my mom this for Christmas 10/10 product. There’s no reviews so I bit the bullet and got one from Target for $50. I purchased the 1.25 inch with a clip. I was skeptical at first but after a little practice I think I got it down. I’ve seen not-so-good YouTube reviews on this curling iron but I believe the girls just aren’t good at curling their hair. The rules of hair curling: #1 must have fresh hair. You can NOT curl hair after you flat iron it. I think as long as you stick to that rule, you’ll do great! My hair stayed curled all day. Remember, Kristin emphasizes this as a “beach wave” and not a “tight ringlet” curling iron. The curls are suppose to be super loose and flowy. If you want tight ringlets BUY A CLIPLESS. I was so excited to use curling iron, and even more excited as soon as I opened the box. You can see and feel the quality right away. I love the sleek, modern design, and how it’s lightweight, but still solid. I’ve had irons before that were too light and would slide all over the counter when I put them down, but the Soft Curl has enough weight that it stays right where I put it. That’s really important because this iron heats up SUPER fast (which I love) and is very hot. Any new tool takes a little time to get used to, and like I said, it heats up fast, so I definitely recommend practicing styling your hair with a cool iron before turning it on. Also, there’s just a little bit of texture to the barrel of the iron (which gives it a really nice matte look) but l also think it gives the barrel a little bit of grip while still allowing your hair to glide around the iron without any tugging or snagging. And finally, the result. I got exactly what I wanted from this (perfectly named) iron. Big, beautiful, soft curls. I have thick, long hair and I was able to curl my whole head in less than 15 minutes. I’m in love!Kelsey T
I really liked this curler. Curls are long lasting. The curler heats up fairly quickly in under 8 seconds. I like the shape the curler has on the end because it makes it easy to hold and that part doesn’t get hot. You can use this curler many different ways. My favorite way to use it is mostly like a wand but with the tong to hold the hair into place. The width of the wand is perfect for looser or bigger curls. It does take a few minutes to cool so I’d be careful with it after unplugging it. It’s also pretty easy to hold and not heavy. I found it easy to use and was able to quickly style my hair because of how well it heats.Bonnie M
Overall a good product. Wanted to invest in a quality product that isn't damaging for the hair. Does what it's suppose to do which is gives you long lasting curls. One thing to note that it is VERY hot, and it's not adjustable. I have normal to thin stand hair and i think the heat is way too strong for my hair type, I don't even leave the curl on the tong for the recommended time. The barrel isn't every smooth when gliding your hair through, you have to open the clamp to release the hair which is abit annoying if you have long hair. Because of the friction its harder to use in my experience compared to other curlers.. burnt myself the first time too.. you definitely need a technique whilst using this because it is way to hot and I can't leave my hair on the barrel for long and need to move really quickly. If I had a chance to try the product first I probably wouldn't buy it. .. but bought it online so there Way noway to know until you try .Donthave1

I’ll start with what I didn’t like. If you have small hands you’ll probably dislike this one. The push down handle (not sure of its proper name) is too far out. My thumb was having trouble reaching it. And once i started twirling it, the on/off button kept turning off because it’s poorly placed right in the center where your fingers tend to grip the hardest. I had to stay focused so that I wouldn’t turn it off again and again while trying not to burn myself. And for what I liked…it curls well and holds its heat. I returned mine because it frustrated me so much. There seems to be a mix of reviews but ultimately you’ll have to try it for yourself. I have other tools from this brand but this one is just not made for everyone.Bridgy
While this curling iron does an okay job curling hair, some engineer should be fired for putting the on/off switch exactly where your thumb goes as you are trying to curl your hair. As others have noted, the on/off switch keeps going off accidentally, as you happen to even slightly touch the area where the switch is. I recommend that the switch be moved to the end tip of the curling iron, so that a person is not constantly hitting the switch by accident. Or a different type of switch be employed, one that is not so sensitive to touch.Gin
I should have read the most recent reviews first before purchasing. I have longer hair and I thought this curling iron looked like it would do the job…NOT at all! First of all, I don’t know what is the deal with where they have placed the on/off and turbo buttons, but as you are using, my thumb kept hitting it and turning it off. Next, no matter what products I used before or after, it does NOT hold any curls. At first I thought maybe my hair was ‘too clean’ so I tried it several different times, and same results! I even made sure not to curl too much hair at one time and did smaller sections. Don’t be fooled…when you’re using it, you’ll see the curls, but as soon as you’re finished and go about your day, they are GONE! Disappointing because it took a long time to curl all my hair. But like other comments read, you get what you paid for. I do agree that it’s a pretty iron and the barrel is smooth, but that doesn’t matter if it doesn’t work. Don’t recommend.Amber

Have had my eye on this waiting for one to be available near me. Finally found one yesterday. Just tried it out and I'm pretty impressed. I'll have to see how it holds up throughout the day. I have purchased a few in the past by different brands. Purchased one from another store by a well known brand wanted to love it but just made my hair soooooooo frizzy. This one produced the same waves with NO frizz. Was nervous after seeing a few reviews here Mentioning made their hair frizzzy. But they have to be doing it wrong. If you aren't doing correct sectioning and pieces that fall naturally together or doing too big of section it will probably for sure produce frizz. I normally don't write reviews but this thing is amazing! I always used to straighten my hair but over the past year, I've been changing up my style. I bought a 1.5 inch barrel curling iron to attempt beachy waves. I could never get the look I wanted and had a constant battle to get my hair to hold shape. I discovered this type of hair styler after doing some research online. I was in Ulta one day and spontaneously bought this, I have no regrets. It had a little bit of a learning curve but I decided that it looks best when I alternate the side of the waver and only do small pieces at a time. That way, it creates a more random look. I love this tool because I don't even need to use hairspray and my hair actually holds! If I do spray my hair, I like to pair it with IGK's Beachy Texture spray. The only complaint I have is how easy it is to turn off the waver when I'm using it.Cam
I got this because of an IG ad, which I normally don't do, but the ad featured a video of a girl using Insert Waves Here in real-time and the final look was cool so I thought, why not. OK no joke, this thing has since become my best friend. It's been a full year since I've last been able to get my hair done at a salon and I've been going through every day feeling like a slob because my fine hair is so lank and shapeless without a good cut. I bought this in 1/2 inch because I wanted small tight corkscrew curls but if that’s what you’re looking for, don’t buy this. The barrel may be small but you’ll still get a loose curl like you might with a bigger barrel. It does curl the hair but within hours, the tighter curls turn into waves but this might be good if you want subtle waves later. The look of the curls is very classic clamp curling iron waves but like I said the curls didn’t last long before they were just waves and my hair is the type that takes curl very well. I even put the heat at the highest setting and still the curls didn’t hold up very well. I curled my hair last night and when I woke up, I still had some wave but simple brushing of hair completely brushed any wave out. I have yet to hairspray them and see how they hold up. I don’t think I’ll return it because it does work and does curl hair but if you’re looking for a curler where the curls will stay tight for a long time, this isn’t it. This product isn’t completely horrible. Like people mentioned the on/off button is at an awkward spot but I had no problem with it and didn’t accidentally hit it or almost hit it at all when curling my hair because I read reviews prior to using the curler. It’s an okay curler but not great. This curler is probably good if you want to add some body and wave to your hair by curling your hair into tight ringlets and then just letting them gradually turn into waves themselves or breaking them up.faye.l
I have used this type of curling iron for years. The ceramic barrel holds my thick hair in place to curl. This new curling iron doesn't have the metal stand that keeps the hot iron off of the quartz counter top. This curling iron has a plastic stand that keeps tipping over. Like the older curling iron better, but this will do in a pinch. I would have given it a 5 star except with my thick hair it doesn't hold the hair tightly or the ceramic isn't as coated like the last curling iron.Reetz

I had excellent results with this particular curling iron. It's a three times ceramic-coated for Less damage to the hair and it goes up to 400 degrees for high heat. There's an automatic shut-off in a 36 30-second heat up. Long lasting curls with a 1 and 1/4 inch barrel for larger curls and waves I do enjoy that it has a non indicator light, there are 30 different heat settings there's an extra-long cooling tip and there's a tangle-free swivel cord. I purchased the 3/4" and have used it many times. It works well for my fine shoulder length hair. I can use it for bouncy curls or loose waves depending on how I use the iron. I have other Hot Tools, Bed Head, Conair, Revlon, and Gold n Hot irons, wavers, & wands and this works just as well if not better. I tend to grab this more than other tools lately. I like it so much I purchased the 1 inch and the 1 1/2 inch. Those I returned – the 1 inch never turned on at all and the 1 1/2 inch turned on but never stopped blinking and didn't seem to get very hot, plus the barrel was just too large for my hair. I read all the negative reviews about this curling iron and would probably agree that it doesn't work all that great for creating curls. BUT I use the largest diameter size to straighten my curly/frizzy hair and have to say it works great for that purpose. I am probably on my 5th Revlon curling iron. All of them have been purchased to straighten my hair. I have purchased other brands but always go back to the Revlon product. I bought this one as a backup and for travel since it was on sale for a reasonable price. The cord on my new one is so much better as the cord on my older version of the same curling iron is constantly twisted and drives me nuts. This iron is absolutely amazing. First time I tried it like many here couldn’t get curls so I ended using the straightener side and in just a few seconds I was done. Tried curls again while watching the tyme tutorial videos still couldn’t get them how I wanted. So I scheduled the free one video call and it was the best decision ever. Not only you get to talk to the woman behind all of this but she will take her time to tell you what you’re doing wrong. Left the call with shiny bouncy curls. It did not work for my hair, it burnt my hair. Then, the customer service was awful because the return policy isn't what they stick to. Save the $200 and by the Revlon one for $40. I purchased my third of this model in January. I am exchanging it today, because like the two before it, it quickly stopped working. Pros: It's hard to find a nice 1" iron. It glides on my coarse hair so nicely. It gets very hot. The cord is very nice, long and cloth wrapped. Cons: This one was making a crackling sound in the first week and today (April 3) would not turn on. I use it every other day at most. The first one I had lasted a few years; the second one, only a few months. I vowed not to buy another, but bought a third because I had a gift card and couldn't find a 1" iron that had as nice of a ceramic coating. This one lasted 3.5 months. I'm careful to turn them off since there's no auto off, and it only was used minimally each day. I'd gladly pay more to get a better quality product. I received this as a gift from my sister. She bought it from T3 directly. I tried to exchange it with a different product of theirs, since I already own a T3 twirl, however they wouldn’t do anything without a receipt, said they couldn’t look her up in their system, and my sister has 3 little kids so getting a receipt from her was more impossible than having tea with the queen of England. I finally got an email from my sister with her confirmation order, but then they said a month went by and it was too much time that passed, despite it being new and in the box. So although I LOVE T3 products and own many, their CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! I love their curling irons, but I preferred to exchange my present with the wands trio since the wands hold better curls for me. My sister meant to buy me wands but bought the trio instead, and the 2 smaller curling irons are too small for me and I would never use. If I could give this zero stars, I would. I have had this since like 2018? And have used it maybe 3 times Bc it’s sucks. First of all, what a pain having to use both hands to hold your hair throughout the entire process. Secondly smoke comes from my hair the second it touches that iron and I have thick long-long hair. I can’t imagine it’s doing anything positive for your hair ladies. Also, the curls don’t hold and it’s just a mess. Changing out the barrels is impossible to get off and on. If they had a clamp that connected to do more traditional curls I would give this a higher rating, but for $335 it’s sucks.jourdan.l
The curler looks so aesthetically pleasing lol, that's what made me buy it in the first place. Not to mention that it has interchangeable wands. I used the curl trio and they all give a nice curl that'll last me throughout my work day (8-10hours). The curls do drop but that's what happens with any curler. I do have to mention that I can only use the curler up to the second heat setting. Anything over 2, it will just smell like burnt hair. I do have fine thin hair so I should be at the lower settings lol. But all in all, i love this curler. The 1.25 happens to be my fav ☺️.Tya

The design of these irons is meant to be used by professionals, meaning pointed away from the person holding it toward someone sitting in front of them. It's difficult to explain without seeing it, but while with a traditional spring iron, flipping the iron around to use on your own hair doesn't really matter, with a marcel, it requires you to hold the iron completely backward from how it's designed. There are a lot of other things that make a marcel tricky to use, but this means it's even harder to use on yourself than on someone else. So when people complain about the difficulty, they're not exaggerating. I was able to figure out how to use it reasonably well the first time I used it, but it took me at least a week of daily use to be fairly comfortable with it. I've been using it for months now. For a while I thought it was a good iron, but I didn't really know if it was any better than a standard iron. That's until I forgot it while on a trip and had to borrow an old school iron from a friend. The difference is huge. First, a spring iron is actually a lot of work to use after getting used to a marcel. Second, the control and quality of curl with this iron is so much better. It's definitely worth the cost. If you don't curl your hair a lot or aren't comfortable with a normal iron, a marcel might not be worth it. But if you curl your hair regularly and have decent coordination and hand dexterity, this is a great iron.heather.w
This is a must have in my arsenal of hair products/accessories. It's lightning fast to heat up, makes a natural looking curl which stays for hours, sometimes into the next day if a shampoo isn't needed. I especially like the long barrel for my medium length hair and thankfully have yet to burn myself. The picture below was before I cut several inches off with our best friend Sam a few months back. I was so pleased because this day didn't start out sunny, it was drizzly and humid in the morning and my curls stayed into the evening. It's truly my favorite styling iron and a must have. I have thin fine hair wavy hair. In addition, I live in the Deep South which means mega humidity. I bought the bigger curling iron and love it and decided I wanted the smaller one for tighter curls in the summer. I use one or the other daily and I love that I can control the heat. I use 290 degrees and my curls last all day. My hair is healthy with no breaking from all the heat I use on my hair. I always use the Third Wheel spray and the argon smoother for the frizziest. I was very excited to receive Conair Fashion Curl. I had washed my hair earlier in the day,so it was nice and dry and clean, as required. I unboxed the curler, plugged it in, and waited for it to warm up — which was fast. I separated my hair into half inch sections as suggested, and began using the curler. My results at first were not good. My hair came out in a very limp spiral — not really a curl as shown. I finally figured that I could only achieve the result if I held the curler for two beeps past the "finished beep." That was better, but working by myself, it took forever. Also doing the back of my head without the curler grabbing stray hairs and pulling them out was nearly impossible. On a POSITIVE note, if you have another person who can do this for you and they follow the directions,it would go much faster and you would likely achieve results similar to the QVC demonstration. In conclusion, this is no product to "go it alone" on. I really wish it worked. I was so loking forward to it.hollyarning
I am someone who is NOT good with using a curling iron or other hair appliances. I just do not have a knack for it. This curler is a miracle! After the first few curls, you will get the hang of it. Make sure the black barrel opening is towards your head, brush out a portion of hair, clamp down, wait for the spaced out beeps (5 followed by the 6th beep becoming a series of very fast beeps). Once it does this, you know your hair is done. Release and let the curls fall. It does a lot of the work for you! It honestly makes me look like I went to the salon each day I use it, or that I am an expert at styling my own hair (which I am NOT). Not sure why the negative reviews…it is super easy to use and gives professional, beautiful results. Even the back of my hair, which I didn't think I could do. I just pull up some hair from the back, brush it straight up, put the curler on and once done, release, and the back of my hair looks great! My husband is excited to see me styling my hair again and it makes me feel like a new person 🙂 I didn't think my hair could look good again (used to do perms years ago but don't anymore). You can either leave the curls (I mist lightly with some hair spray when I am done), or you can use your fingers to loosen them up. My hair looks good for at least 2 days if I decide not to shampoo. I was out in a wind storm yesterday and honestly, the curls stayed all day despite the wind blowing like crazy (40 mph or more). I am truly impressed. My hair usually looks like a mess and doesn't hold curl or wave well. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you purchase this. For me, it's a game changer.DeborahK
First if all, I previously owned a much more expensive type of automatic curler. It lasted about 2 1/2 or three years and I thought for the money it shouldve lasted much longer. So I thought I would try this one for a little less than 30 bucks and see if it would last at least a year. The motor on it seems a little sluggish, so Im not sure. But it does produce a decent enough curl if one is patient. Allow to heat up sufficiently and give yourself about 30 to 45 minutes if you have thicker hair like mine. Mine is also shoulder-length and I dont think it would work very well on hair that is much longer. But the curl lasted all day and looked nice. It was a bit difficult to get the device positioned for the back of the hair. But if one is patient and has the time, it works fairly well. Tip: Try it on some underneath hair before attempting the top layers. That way if it doesnt curl the way you like it or hair becomes temporarily caught, you arent trying it out on the top where it will be noticed.litlady75

I'm terrible with curling irons and curling my hair with a flat iron. There's something about looking in a mirror that messes me up every time. But since I'm a born straight-haired gal, I think curls are fun. I've been using Babyliss Pro's MiraCurl for about 5 years, so I'm not new to devices like this. After upgrading my flat iron to a CHI Volcanic Lava, I noticed how bad my hair was frizzing with the Miracurl, so I decided to try this one out. The Good: My hair is much less frizzy with this than with the Miracurl. It does not get as hot on the outside, either, and is a great deal lighter to hold. Price is slightly cheaper. The Bad: The Spin and Curl is not as user-friendly as the Miracurl. With the Miracurl, you choose your settings beforehand (3 types of curls, right/left/alternate, 3 levels of heat) and forget them. While heat setting and the timer is set on this one, I struggle remembering which button to press on the Spin and Curl-it's not in a good position to press them when doing the left side of my head with curls curling away. I'm used to just putting my hair in and letting the Miracurl do the work. I can't imagine doing my entire hair with alternating curls and having to remember which button to push each time. The Miracurl is much easier to use in this regard. I hope this is something they correct in the future. The Ugly: Could this thing look any more like a flesh light? I have to admit that I am not a handy person. I have tried many curling irons and flat irons, but none of those worked for me. I also watched many YouTube tutorial videos to learn the techniques, but unfortunately I am not good at doing it. I decided to invest my money on this Spin N Curl. Wow! Amazing! It makes my life much easier. It is now my must have at my vanity desk. The curls are so pretty and they last long. The only down side is that it won't take lots of hair at one time, so it does take some time to work through small sections one by one. But still, the result is worth my time! I know some people have had issues with hair getting stuck. In fact, we can use it only when our hair is dry. I normally spray the heat protectant over my hair and comb through until the hair dries, and then I start to use Spin N Curl to style my hair. I never have any issue.Ellie
I was introduced to this gadget when my stylist used it to curl my hair after a cut and highlight. He usually does a blow out and occasionally adds a few curls with a curling iron – which never last. This automatic curler works well, heats fast, has a button to spin either way, a timer and a high and low setting which I like allot. My hair is almost shoulder length. It did not tangle my hair. The important thing to realize is that a large barrel only can produce bigger, looser curls and is usually best with hair that is approximately shoulder length and longer. It is easy to use and just takes a little practice looking in the mirror for eye hand coordination. Holding it vertical (straight up and down) and not on a slanted angle, setting the lower section of hair in place and then repeating with the upper section of the strands of hair seems to work well. You can do the whole section of hair at one time. There is some minor versatility to styling with it, but not allot. The baloney type curls are not super tight, but are defined medium and pretty. They can be gently combed through with a wide comb or fingers to separate out and the hair becomes a nice fully wave. Professional Hair Volume product and Professional Hairspray are not necessary for the style to hold, but will help give volume and keep the styled hair curl longer. I give it a 4 out of 5 because it is a good product and is easy to use for a wavy or baloney curl effect and does save time once you know how to use it and touch it up each day – but minus one star because it has very little other versatility and the price is a bit high, I paid over $35.00. You could get the same effect with curlers, or a regular curling iron (loosely wound) and be able to use them for other styles for less money. I hope this response it helpful in deciding. Ive used this product for years. My hair is thick and wavy i use this product every other day becaue the curls last until i wash my hair next. I take a section of hair and start in the middle and it pulls up the end. It looks great but like any heat tool it causes damage so try to protect. I dont start too high because my hair is long but also because where u start the curl is where the most amount of heat is applied and i dont want any damage that high up. DO NOT use this product if you use genectic or procucts that cause wax build up you will see more damage. I really love this tool but want to stress that you need to use heat proection after washing so you can blow dry it into your hair. If your like me and want to curl the night before to reduce your morning routine make sure you give your hair plenty time to cool before bed.
