I wanted to like this, but I just don’t. It leaves your hair feeling dirty and crusty the same way a sea salt mousse would. I use mouse in my hair quite often. I like the way gives my hair and curls bounce without stiffness. This one though whether your hair is clean or not, leaves your hair feeling dry, dirty and crusty. It’s supposed to be for dry curly hair. it’s supposed to soften, defined and volumize with a flexible hold. well it doesn’t hold flexibly. actually, after you put it in just makes your hair feel like straw. It smells amazing that much I love. it absolutely smells amazing. But it does not leave your hair feeling soft and it does not define your hair. I love all the other products from this line but this one is the only one that I just don’t like. My first impression is I love the packaging the blue and gold is very pretty. I also like the smell. It’s a really strong coconut scent. So if your not into strong or coconut fragrances I wouldn’t recommend this line of products from Maui Moisture. First I used this mousse first on my daughters tightly coiled hair along with the gel and it worked okay but nothing to rave about it defined the coils and gave a nice shine. The second day however I noticed her hair had so many flakes I had to wash it out. I would say that I will not use this again for her because it has somewhat of a drying effect on naturally coiled hair. When I used it on my hair I didn’t like the way it felt going on. It felt kinda stiff and drying so I didn’t use on my full head. I would not recommend to for thick coiled or tightly curled natural hair.kristina.b

With 3b curls that are dry, coarse, long, tangly and graying…I've been struggling lately. I want so badly to keep my hair long and grow it longer than I've ever had the patience to. I purchased this Ouidad VitalCurl mousse today (last one on the shelf!), because I was desperately trying to just get my hair to look good. I got home with my new product and hit the shower right away. After washing/conditioning I put a bit of my previously purchased Ouidad VitalCurl Tress Effects Gel in my palm and added a a nice dollop of this mousse on top and mixed it together until no foam remained and I was left with a wonderfully slippery gel-consistency. I repeated the process once more to make sure I coated everything. I used an Olivia Garden brush to distribute the product and let it dry naturally. It didn't take as long to fully dry as when I use my gel with other hair creams and my hair had a cast that was so perfect it still looked wet when it was fully dry. I was so happy with the results that I feel like I can let this unruly mom keep on growing. At least my ponytail would look good and not a frizzy mess like it usually does. This is THE one product from Ouidad that I feel I can't do without. Granted, I haven't used it by itself but when a curly girl finds her perfect recipe, it's a challenge to stray from it for fear of ruining the outcome. As a side note, I have used the gel mentioned above by itself and I loved the curl formation, however, it's a very foamy gel once I start applying it and it makes a squooshing noise and turns white. I really like this mousse for my waves/curls but I wish it combated humidity. it sadly doesn't hold up throughout the hot days either, regardless of scrunching out the light crunch or not. my hair is between chin and tops of shoulders and cut shaggy so I know its not the length weighing it down and i only use one other product with it, Olaplex smoothing bond styling creme. overall though i do like it a lot. but once this bottle is finished ill be on the hunt for another mousse that can withstand the heat and humidity.kalirocker
So i had really high hopes for this because the brand looked interesting and the smell was great. I tried it once on freshly washed hair to see what it could do as a stand alone product. The answer was…. absolutely nothing. I saw my waves starting to leave their clumps even while i was putting it through my wet hair because it encouraged so much frizz. I chalked it up to not using it right so i used it again a few days later on damp unwashed hair with my normal defining cream and it looked promising! For about 2 hours after it dried at least. Then my hair was just a poofy frizzy mess. I may try it again and use my gel, but i am no lomger feeling optimistic about this product. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I heard other reviews and videos rave about this mousse and had to try it. I have to say, they are right. I have fine texture, low porosity natural hair. My hair is short, but when stretched the back comes to my collar bone and the front comes to the end of my nose (to give you a reference). I get good definition using a gel, but this product really defined my hair, and I had more body. Body is a problem for those of us with fine hair. My curls lasted 4 days, especially in the top which is longer. My hair is shorter on the sides and since I sleep on my side the definition fades sooner. I still had a little definition on my sides day 4, but the top still had curls. The first time I used it I only used a moisturizing deep conditioner and the mousse. It did great defining my curls, but left my hair very dry. The next time I used a moisturizing deep conditioner, leave-in conditioner, a moisturizing gel, and a sealing oil with the mousse. Sounds like a lot, but this is the process I have to use every wash day to keep my hair moisturized for 3 days. I did not have any problems with dry hair at all this time. I have thick heavy waves/curls. The product worked well when I used it with a leave in conditioner. The day I was in a rush and didn't put a leave in my hair was course and felt dehydrated. It doesn't help to clump your curls on it's own, but was easy to style and mold my curls with my brush. Dried quickly and smelled good. I didn't get a chance to use it for a long period of time to see the overall quality. The bottle untwisted just enough while under my sink and spilled. Luckily I had it in a container. The bottle easily untwist. You should keep the product right side up and make sure it doesn't knock over. Unfortunately it's the bottle quality that keeps me from buying this again. I used the old version of this for years. It was the only product that worked on my naturally curly hair, allowing me to put this in my hair and go. This new version is terrible. Not only does it not work for my hair (it makes it a frizzy mess), but the top broke off both bottles I ordered on the first use. Please bring back the previous formulation!! I used the prior version for several years on my 2b/2c curls. My hair is fine and I need the hold of a lightweight mousse. I bought this new version without realizing the new nozzle went with a new formulation of the product. It went from a whipped cream consistency to something that looks and feels like the bubbles at the end of your bubble bath. It falls apart immediately and you can't tell how much to use without your hair getting crunchy and weighed down. My hair looks bedraggled. When i rub this product into my hands to apply to my hair it has a very off putting smell. I have used it a few times and it has done nothing for my hair as far as how it looks after i use it and does not make my hair smell nice. I have used Tresemme shampoo and conditioner products for a long time and really like how it makes my hair feel and smell. I wasted my money. Man I love this stuff. I use a curl refresh spray from Sexy Hair (I think, it's a blue can) for day two curls, and this stuff for days three to five. It's a little too heavy for clean hair but perfect for all the other days. There is a learning curve. Too much will make hair crunchy and gross, too little will do nothing. It took two uses to find the right amount for my hair. I have shoulder length wavy/curly hair, medium fine thickness with A LOT of hair. I pump four times in my hands and prayer hand it down a clump of hair as wide as my palms. It takes me four goes to get around my whole head. Then I scrunch lightly and done! It does leave hair feeling a little wet at first but dries quickly and my hair looks better than day one. No frizz at all, very defined curls. The Mielle Babassu Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream and Curl Mousse that I received has an awful smell. They have a loud musty scent with a hint of citrus. The products work well, but the awful smell is overwhelming and it lingers (my freshly washed hair smells musty after using this cocktail). I’m not certain if this is a bad batch or if this is how it smells (I have nothing to compare it with) due to buying it online. All I know is the scent is unbearable and it can’t be masked. I followed up with the Mielle Mint Almond Oil which has a Nice mint scent, but the mint almond oil could not overpower the musty scent from the Mielle Babassu Brazilian Curly Cocktail Curl Cream and Curl Mousse. Finally, after several products and much money, I’ve found a product that I like. I cut my long hair off at the beginning of 2021, and I intend to keep it short(ish). I have 3B/3C, wavy, low porosity hair. I do love a mousse for me wash and go, and this product adds a good deal of moisture without the “crunchy” feeling or cast from the hold. I absolutely love the results of using this product. I ordered this along with the Brazilian curling mousse. The product kept my curls soft and bouncy, but the smell is very offensive in my opinion. I hate the scent. It’s a cross between a citrus scent and menthol. My hubby hates the scent as well. I’m going to try to concoct a method that fixes this issue, but it’s possible I may be throwing the product away. I just can’t tolerate the smell. I have wavy/curly hair, medium texture. Pre-pandemic, I was recommended Moroccanoil by my stylist. But, since the product I was using at the time was working well, I didn't bother trying Moroccanoil. However, recently, my usual product reformulated and changed drastically for the worse. It no longer worked. So, I decided to try a few products from Moroccanoil (oil treatment, curl defining cream, and curl control mousse). To my dismay, all the products I tried smell like alcohol and aftershave. While I do get a little more bounce and a little more curl than my previous brand, non of the products I tried is great with frizz control. I've tried letting my hair air dry and I've also used a diffuser on low and medium settings. I'm fine with paying for a product that works. But, I feel that I have been ripped off. I LOVE this product and this whole brand. I was sent a sample of the curl defining cream and the smell won me over instantly. It just makes your hair smell so good. My husband thought it was my shampoo or conditioner, but he told me my hair smelt so good the first time I used this product. I even went and bought the perfect defense heat protector spray after they sent me this sample. I use it after I curl my hair with my straightener and it just makes my hair smell amazing, reduces any frizz left, and makes my curls bouncy. I also let my daughter use it and she loved it as well. She has super curly ringlets and used it after a shower and her curls looked so good. They were bouncy and frizzless. This product works! The only thing is that there are other products on the market for curl defining that are very similar for way less and that’s why I took off a whole star. As of now, I’ve stuck with Cantu’s curl defining cream so I can compare it to that. Unlike Cantu’s, this cream is super lightweight! Doesn’t feel heavy or greasy but still gets the job done. My curls were super shiny and they were defined. I put mousse over it and it did a wonderful job of keeping my curls frizz free. The smell alone was amazing. I would only get this when I want to splurge. Although it did wonders, it’s still not something I’d spend $36 on. These products tend to run out quick if you have curly hair or long hair and it’s just not worth it. I was buying the bumble and bumble mousse for almost 40 bucks and replacing it every 3-4 weeks until I had to put an end to it!melissa.r

This product had good hold but I am dissatisfied with how quickly it went flat. I used as directed but the bottle has at least 90% of contents left and no longer expands into a foam when dispensed. Everything about the packaging is great except I do find it hard to only get small bit into your hand. This could be a good and bad thing depending on how you use the product but when I use it I do have to waste some product because so much comes out. The results left my hair very voluminous. I had a huge difference in my hair, which was great. It lasted a while which was even better. The only downfall is it did leave my hair feeling greasy, if I would run my hands through my hair, my hands would feel oily with the residual product on them. My hair did also begin to look oily towards the end of the day (this was freshly cleaned hair and my hair normally doesnt get oily until I sleep on it for a night). But I did overall love the lift result and someone elses hair may absorb it way differently than mine and may not actually leave any residual product. I usually like this product as it gets my hair nicely loose and volumed for blowdrying, and so I ordered 2 bottles online. One of them is fine but the other doesn’t foam up when pumped – it comes out as liquid mush. Returning is too much of a hassle – who has time for that for a $13 product. And I don’t think I can take it into a store and swap it , they will tell me to use the online return process. So am stuck with an unusable bottle of this product.Greg1010

I have issues with products either weighing my hair down or not providing enough hold – not with this mousse! It doesn't foam up much, but don't let that fool you. I use it with a lightweight leave-in conditioner, and it gives me amazing curl definition, all the way up to my roots. It sets in a strong cast, but is still easily scrunched out. While trying to transition to curly my stilylist recommended this product. At first it was good. I had a decent amount of volume, curl definition and shine. Then I started noticing my hair as a limp noodle constantly. My hair was also becoming more straw like. Nope, I finally picked up the bottle to check the ingredients and bam, dimethicone. Why my stylist ever recommended this is beyond me. I do not recommend this product for wavies at all. Your hair will look beautiful at first but die a slow ignominious death. I've kicked this to the curb and found a better mousse that's more curly girl approved. Now I'm fixing the damage that this product did. Also, if you're a blonde or brunette this product will color bleach your hair in the sun or with heat. I have mostly type 2b/c hair with some 3A pieces and don't usually have a problem with definition/volume, but this pretty much gave me neither just made my hair frizzy and I really don't like the way it feels to the touch. It leaves a pretty strong cast that is difficult to get out even when scrunching with oil and if you live in a super humid place like me, then so much humidity will make your hair crunchy all over again. I ignored the reviews in hopes that maybe it would work for me to simplify my routine, but I wish I had just repurchased my tried and true instead. I honestly prefer just my hair air dried with only a light leave in (pretty loose waves-not like what I get with the cream/gel but doable) to what this gives me. I'm gunna try to power through and finish this but I have a feeling I won't. Listen to the reviews and just save yourself the time and money it's not worth the like 2% chance this will actually work for you. Although I think if you have super fine, extremely loose waves and you reallllyyyy struggle with volume this may work for you. Maybe. Possibly.Mayham27
Very sticky mousse! Dispensing this foam and rubbing it between my hands felt like I had just opened a bottle of hair spray and poured it into my hands. I couldn't believe how sticky this stuff was! I used a very small amount, applied to my roots first and the combed the rest through my hair with my fingers. After scrunching my hair, washing my hands and blow drying on the lowest setting with a diffuser I was left with wet-looking, crunchy curls. Trying to reactivate the next day by misting my hair with a little water and letting air dry I was left with really dry, hard hair feeling like I had used lots of hair spray. Couldn't get my fingers through it, no way a comb or brush would make it. So happy to wash this stuff out of my hair. Throwing this in the trash and will look for something else. Probably the worst hair product I have ever used and that's saying a lot!Debby
I have low porosity, medium density wavy/looser curly hair. The bottom part of my hair has tighter ringlets/curls while the hair closer to my crown is a bit looser and tends to be weighed down or fall. I use this after applying leave-in and curl cream on wet hair and scrunch in! If I’m using gel, I don’t usually use this since my hair doesn’t really need both! It smells really good (the entire line does!) and it doesn’t weigh my hair down! It’s really easy to emulsify, you don’t need a lot of product. It helps control my frizz and defines my curls much better and it’s so easy to refresh day 2-3 hair with this product too!maria.m

This product definitely has its pros and cons. It mainly did what the claims to do or at least as well as any comparable product. But I do find this like has very heavily scented products. Which isn’t bad for some but with a lot of places moving to unscented environments it’s something to be mindful ofmichelle .n

I have very fine straight hair. I use a little amount after I shower to add texture and retain moisture in my hair. I noticed my hair was starting to feel really dry so I started using this after each night shower. My hair has been starting to feel so much healthier and it also helps with heat styling since my hair is so naturally straight it helps to keep the curl. This is a great foam for wet wraps. I have relaxed hair and I’m a bit of a novice doing my hair on my own. I purchased this to wet wrap and dry under a hood dryer. It left my hair soft and moisturized. Some foams leave hair crunchy but this foam is reasonably priced with great ingredients. My hair looked like it was professionally done afterward.KM mom
I bought thus product to use to style my lace wig. It helped style my wig perfectly upon install. By day 3 of using the foaming lotion to style my baby hair i had some irritation in my forehead but it wasn’t too bad. I took a break for a few days from using it or styling my wig & when I used it again it started to severely burn my forehead. I wiped the product off & did continued use. I took my wig off 2 days later and had a chemical burn across my entire forehead. It burned so bad & took a while to clear up. My skin is far from sensitive so I know that wasn’t the issue. Another fab product from Only Curls. Since receiving this mousse ( or is it a foam?) I’ve been experimenting. I use it before the OC strong gel to lift my roots as I brush style. It’s also excellent as a refresh for days 2 and 3. My hair hates Aloe and this doesn’t have it so definitely 5 stars from me. A very versatile product and one that was missing from the range.Jane B.
To be honest I was a little dubious buying this – have always found Mousse is key for my hair and thought this would probably not be as good as my usual product. How wrong I was – the Mousse is quite dense, so you really do not need a lot on your hair. It defined curls really well and more Importantly two days later they still look the same . Another excellent product from Only Curks! Yes, more expensive but with all products I have bought I find they last a long time, are good for my scalp and hair and are worth the money . I’ve not used mousse since the 1990s, and back then it would leave my hair feeling dry, hard and separate my curls. But as I’ve loved other Only Curls products I thought I’d give this a go. I love this product for many reasons. It gives me such lovely definition, volume and texture without leaving a sticky residue and the ingredients are fantastic. I also feel like it plays nicely with every other product I have tried with it. It took me awhile to figure out what application method worked best for my hair and now that I have it down, my hair comes out beautifully, not just on wash day or the day following, but for the entire week, my curls look gorgeous with very little maintenance. I prefer to style my hair with a leave in, a gel/custard/souffle and then I diffuse until it partially dry. Once my hair is 50-60% dry, I add four to eight pumps of this magical foam, focusing on the roots then working my way down the entire length, scrunching along the way, and then I resume diffusing. Excellent results, every time. To refresh, I usually slightly dampen my hair and apply a watered down version of a leave in or curl cream (gel when necessary), hit it with the diffuser and depending on what my hair needs, one or two more pumps of foam, often times, none. I was skeptical about spending almost $30 on one product, especially with my negative experiences with a different higher end brand a few years ago. But I must say, this product is totally worth it for me in regards to quality and how much I use. I get maximum results with little amount of product. I would recommend this product and will most definitely be purchasing it again and again. My curl type for those interested is predominantly 3b with some 3c and 3a mixed in. Normal porosity. I have medium length, 2a hair that's prone to frizziness. My roots can get greasy and the ends of my hair can get dry/develop split ends. I don't spend a lot of time on my hair and I don't like to use a lot of products – I'm looking for something I can put in wet hair to bring out my waves and help my hair air dry nicely. Overall, this product works pretty well for me. It does bring out my waves (albeit not as much as the toxic curl creams I've used in the past) without too much stickiness. It feels lightweight and does add a bit of volume. And, I really like the smell! It's faintly herbally/floral/citrus, without being overpowering. Overall, I'd recommend with the caveat that your expectations shouldn't be the same as traditional curl products from mainstream, prestige (non clean) haircare brands.
I’ve been using clean products for 2.5 years now but finding good hair products that actually work has been a struggle. I have straight/wavy hair so I got this to use as a root volume boost. I have long hair so it usually leaves my roots flat from the weight. I used 2 pumps on my scalp while wet then used a blow dry straightener and I was amazed at the lightness and volume!
