This is hands down the best curly hair gel on the market. I use 2-3 pumps for my whole head and scrunch it in after applying a leave in conditioner to very wet hair. It starts by drying hard but then as the day goes on, your hair looks and feels so soft and the curls are still in place. If i’m looking for a stronger hold because of a slick-back ponytail or something, I usually opt for a stronger gel like Not Your Mother’s. I branched out a year ago to try new products for my wavy hair and I stumbled on this one. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s a weird texture. Kinda like a watery gel. I wasn’t 100% sure it would help my hair. Omg. I was so wrong to be skeptical. This stuff is in my everyday hair arsenal. I scrunch this into my wet hair after a shower. Sometimes it’s all I use and it leaves my hair soft and gently defined. If I want stronger definition, I add in Marc Anthony’s curly mousse right after this and scrunch it in with a t-shirt then let air dry. Feels just like snot!! And gets the job DONE! So just so that you know, I’m a lazy 4C natural. Meaning I do bare minimum to maintain a few strands of hair on my non-chemically treated hair. I literally do not use styling products, partially out of laziness but even more so out of fear of breakage and dryness etc. I took a chance, and for the first tome in years, I tried a styling product, and this was it. It’s a gel with the exact consistency of snot. First wash your hair, condition, leave in condition or whatever, and then while your hair is still soaking wet, apply a GENEROUS amount. Finger detangle/shingle/whatever you to that usually gets a little more definition in your hair and boom. Soft not crunchy curls. Such an amazing hold without feeling like your hair is going to fall out. No flaking. I’ve have now used this styling gel for 3 separate wash n go combinations and I LOVE it. It’s not tacky/sticky and gives moisture, deep definition, and HOLD! For Type 4 curl girls, using this gel in combo with the Pom and honey coiling custard is a dynamic duo! I’ve been looking for a solid gel from Mielle for my hair type and this one takes the cake! Here lately I’ve had an issue with flaking when using my wetline xtreme gel for hold. This gel has replaced that one in my routine as I’ve had NO FLAKING when used with the custard or other clear/light-color styling products. I have tried a few products for my hair including shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioners, and co-washes but none of them did the job like the pomegranate and honey products. I recently asked my aunt to purchase the pomegranate and honey shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, honey coil sculpting custard, and the co-wash, and my mom and I are obsessed. The shampoo and conditioner made my hair look and feel healthy and it moisturized and cleaned my hair thoroughly. After coming out of the shower my hair was detangled and healthy. My mom used the leave-in conditioner on my hair before twisting it and she used the honey coil sculpting custard and 2 other products to twist my hair. Frizzyness used to be very visible in my hair but now it barely showed. These products were overall worth the $65 spent and when it runs out I will most definitely purchase them again.
I am a fairly loyal user of As I Am curl jelly, but my local Sally was out of stock. I was reluctant to use the Mielle line as I had tried the original line of Mielle curl products in the past and it wasn’t enough moisture, weight, etc to nourish and define my curls. I love this this product! Finally something that does NOT make my hair more frizzy, crunchy, dry or greasy. I have fine to medium curly long hair, I am of Eastern European descent. I just use a very small amount like directions advised, worked it into my wet hair, scrunched it with my hands and let air dry. My hair is sooo soft, no frizz and my curls are defined. I found this product yearssss ago when I first started the Curly Girl Method. It was very runny, white and much lighter. I ended up repurchasing it and when I opened it, it is incredibly yellow and thick and the ingredient list is completely different. I bought this product not knowing my hair type which is my bad. So if you have low porosity hair like me, this product might not be the best for you. I used this weekly and found that my hair felt extra greasy and had a lot of build up. The butters caused weighed down my curls and they still had a lot of frizz. It does smell good and I bet would be great for high porosity hair. But if you have low porosity hair, it's probably better to just avoid this product.Kenna

I have long, fine, curly hair that can be a bit unruly and loves to frizz out in the summer humidity. I try to wash it only two times a week so I was excited to try the curl reactivator to see if it helps revive my curls. It works great in tandem with other curl products like the curl mousse. However, if it's the sole product you are using on your hair I will say that it's not enough to combat frizz, for me at least. That being said, it definitely does what says, it revives curls, especially ones that are 2+ days old. It doesn't weigh down the hair and make it greasy. My hair feels really soft after using. Really nice lightweight product that is perfect for wave/curl touch ups. If I’m honest, this isn’t too much different in performance to a watered down hair conditioner, but I love the convenience and that they got the ratio right. I have thinning hair and I love that this product doesn’t weigh my hair down or make it oily/greasy at all. To get the most out of this product, I like to slightly dampen with water and then go in with this. Not necessary to take that added step, but it helps stretch out the product more. I got this at the store today because I am trying to embrace my wavy hair for the summer and put less heat on it. I originally went to get the lightweight curl cream and figured I would get both. I tried this today on day 2 hair and I’m pretty impressed. It reformed my curls and took the frizz away. The only reason I deducted a star is because I felt like I needed to spray my hair with water to get the full effect. I was hoping this alone would do the trick. I will still continue to use this though and maybe on day 3,4,5 I can use without water. I have hair extensions as well and it works on them too. I’m not impressed. Heavy for my fine 4C hair. But what bothers me most is the clumping of the product at the ends of my hair. Almost immediately after applying, I noticed tiny, almost imperceptible flakes on my forehead, in my eyelashes, and on my face. I thought my eyes were irritated by dust in the air. Then realized that the tiny specks on the inside of the lens of my eyeglasses were coming from my hair. I can’t recommend this product for that reason alone.
Kinda works but the smoothing gel with the as I am leave in gives me much better definition on my 3c/4a hair. I used those two with ecostyler as my final step and my hair never looked better. Also my hair stayed moisturized with essentially no tangles for over a week. That has never happened to me b4 using any styling combo. That said, I will not be purchasing the curling jelly again an will stick with the smoothing gel. Another plus with a spooning Joe is that you do not have to use it on soaking wet hair as you do with the jelly . So a lot less messy of a styling process.dKayTx

I’m a 62 yr old woman with naturally curly hair past my waist. My hair, not extensions. I don’t blow-dry my hair or use curling implements. Every once in a long while (like 5years) I will use my ceramic flat iron just to have a different look for an occasion. But I’m a wash-and-wear woman. I live in Florida, and had not yet found a product that kept my hair from frizzing. I’ve used PM products in the past and liked them. Especially the Super Skinny Serum. So when I came across this product at a salon I decided to give it a try. It keeps my hair smooth without weighing down the curls. Once dry it can be a bit “crunchy” like a lot of leave in products. But i’ve found that gently scrunching my dry curls breaks it up, and leaves my hair soft, shiny, and curly. Unfortunately, as with other reviewers, I find small chunks of white in my hair after applying, even with pumping it into one of my palms and then vigorously rubbing my palms together to warm and emulsify the product. With as much hair as I have, combing through my wet curls and picking out the chunks is tedious. Will it keep me from using the product? Doubtful. Simply because it really makes my hair look lovely. I have 2c mid back length hair. I tried this product alone without any other products. It smelled good while applying but left no other scent once dry. I scrunched this in and allowed to air dry. I'm a natural with 4a/4b hair that mainly does wash n goes. I wanted a gel to layer for hold that had better ingredients than eco and wetline. I planned to use this as a topper. I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. This is not going to give you much definition alone. Use this for additional hold and control. Overall, I think I would purchase again and I'm interested in trying their strong hold gel.Jasmine
I love this product. After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give. I have been loving this Curl Foaming Gel by VerbxManesbyMell! I have been using this on my wavy/curly hair for the past 5 weeks now and have been loving the results. I personally still like to use this gel with a leave-in (conditioner or primer), and I always finish with an oil. You could definitely use this product as a one and done and it would still work great. I typically diffuse my hair when styling, but I've used this when plopping/air-drying also and have found that it works equally as well with either technique. I use this to touch up and refresh my waves and curls in between wash days. The hold is amazing but the cast is not hard or crunchy at all and is easily broken with a hair oil. This cream is hands down my favorite of all time! I had been ordering it every time it came available through Ipsy, but was so excited to find it at ULTA with a whole family of Cake products at such a good price! I absolutely love this product. It smells great, but isn’t overpowering. It works great on my hair, tames the frizz, defines my curls and makes my hair look and feel super soft. No stiffness! I would highly recommend this product to anyone with natural curly hair. It performs far better than many more expensive products I have tried! I had high hopes for this product since I love their hair spray so much, but it leaves way too much icky residue on my waves. I have fine high-porosity 2B hair down to my mid-back, and only used a quarter-sized blob on lengths before air-drying (I don't use gel or mousse on top when it's just casual styling). Once my hair is detangled with a Denman-type brush and the waves are formed, I don't touch it so as not to disturb the curl clumps (that's the secret for pretty mermaid waves) I was very disappointed and surprised to feel how sticky my hair was after it was dried. There was so much icky product residue I could feel it on my hands, I literally had to wash my hands every time I touched my hair. I tried using even smaller amounts but it felt the same. My waves came out nice, but I just can't handle sticky residue when other products can hold my waves just as well without the stickiness. Maybe it's because I have fine hair, and the product would be better suited for thick/coarse hair? It's possible. I don't usually leave reviews for beauty products, but I have to say that I finally found hair products that work for my fine, frizzy, curly hair. I was skeptical but decided to give the Cake product line a try because it wasn't too expensive and Ulta was having a sale. I used DevaCurl for a long time, but recently noticed changes to their products. As a result, I started looking for replacement products and have tried Aveda, Quidad, Curlsmith, Not Your Mothers and a ton of other curly hair products that either didn't have enough hold or had too much hold. I have been searching for products that define my curls without frizz and this curl cream along with the Cake mousse is perfect! I style my hair right out of the shower. I start with Cake's leave-in conditioner spray. I use the Cake mousse to give my hair hold and volume and style with the curl cream using the styling techniques I learned from watching #manesbymell. I am pretty sensitive when it comes to smell and all of the products consistently smell the same, which is good when you using several at a time. The smell is sweet, but it is not overpowering. Out of all the new products that come out, I some how go back to this Styling Creme. I have 4C hair, but this is the only product that gives me a great twistout. I do have to agree with the other comments about that it dries the hair, but a quick fix to that I found was to use a oil after you finish twisting your hair and again before you take your twist out. When I tried that my hair was soft, no crunching feeling. I also use Mixed Chick Hairdress. I don't think the stores sell it, but I brought directly from their website.Debbie

However, I have been using this product for years on my natural curly, high porosity hair because it is super moisturizing and is the only product that works no matter the climate/humidity. I’ve seen some say that this stuff doesn’t moisturize. While that is true, I mix mine with a moisturizer. NOT ALOT otherwise the affect it has on the hair makes it look strange.

I have wavy curls so my hair isn’t nearly as curly as some on here, but it does do the job. I suggest mixing Maui moisturize hair care with it to help not only with the smell if you don’t like it, but make your hair less likely to feel dry.
As for the smell, it smells like mango. But it’s a bit bitter. Almost tangy smell. It’s hard to explain but with the moisturizer, it’ll add that that sweet smell of coconut to even the smell out.Potatochip Blueberry

I have 4a/4c hair. I've used this product twice. So, it doesn't readily absorb into my hair. I applied it by finger raking it through soaking wet hair in the shower. And this is the only product I used after thoroughly rinsing my conditioner. However, after allowing my hair to set for 2 hours I blow dried it and the product sunk into my hair without a problem. I got super defined soft coils with effortless volume which I love. My biggest issue with this product is that something in the ingredients irritates my scalp. I'm sitting here trying to focus on studying, but my scalp is itchy, and I don't have time to do my hair again right now. So I will have to return this to the store. I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.

This is so bomb. I have curly hair! I orginally brought it home from Dominican Republic. And it’s way better for high porosity curly hair that’s damaged. I use this to bring out my waves but I feel like it leaves my hair greasy but my waves do pop! I'm trying to work around the product and find a way that works best for me, it does it job but I don't like the greasy feeling. My husband said it's more shiny than it is greasy but I'm going by how I feel wearing it in my hair. Speaking of my husband I put this in my husband's beard and it is smoothes it. This isn't necessarily a bad curl cream, but I do think it's overpriced and so I probably won't repurchase. This cream doesn't really give me any extra curl, which is the main reason I bought it, so that's a bit of a let down. It does make my hair soft though and provides some hold, so there's that. It also smells nice, not at all like pet shampoo like some people have said. More like something sweet, like a baked good, I can't quite put my finger on what it reminds me of. This cream does give a specific look, at least for me, and that's definition but with separation. If you're looking for big curl clumps this probably isn't the product for you, but if you like smaller clumps (not stringy, just smaller), you'll like this. Luckily that's the look I'm going for because I have layers, if I use a product that makes big clumps I end up looking like I barely have any hair. The best thing about this cream in my opinion is that it doesn't weigh down my very fine hair even if I use a lot of it (it comes out fast!). Not many products for curls can be used liberally on fine hair, so if your strands are fine and you like the smaller clump look this would probably be the perfect product for you!JD
The curl cream is great, it's light weight and has a very faint smell which I like. More important than the product though I would like to give a HUGE shout out to the customer service at COBIA. Immediately after I placed my order I received an email thanking me for placing the order. My product was shipped (for free!) quickly and efficiently through Canada post. The packaging was beautiful but also environmentally friendly AND COBIA included a nice little gift from me. Even though I am on the other side of the country COBIA took the time and energy to see that I was happy, they truly went above and beyond. I would definitely shop with them again and will definitely recommend them. Hopefully one day I can visit them in person in BC! Support local businesses, support COBIA 🙂
I don't understand how this product has such good reviews. I've found better drugstore products for half the price, or if I want to splurge I like devacurl touchable curls. This product left my hair stringy yet dry, and sticky. I've used products that leave a hard cast and then once you scrunch the stiffness goes away…not for this product. I also like versatile products that I can air dry, or diffuse. Don't even try diffusing with this product, it makes the stringyness ten times worse. I am on a very limited budget and I threw this product away after 3 uses (I don't think I've ever thrown product away) because I couldn't even tolerate it enough to keep it as a back up. I haven't tried the other products by this brand, but I will not buy this curl cream again.Kat
