Best Curls For Short Hair (2024 Update)

I signed up for membership and was told i could pick something from their basket for free. This was in there. Came home and tried it . Was amazed . I spray it on my curly hair after my shower. Fluff it up with my hands. Let it dry naturally completely and gently comb . It leaves my hair amazing. The next morning , I just spray water and fluff , again let it dry naturally and comb .Looks as good as the day before!

I received this kit complimentary from Influenster, in exchange for my honest review. And it’s about to get real honest…. Let me start off by saying that my hair looked good after using this kit, HOWEVER, this is also a situation of “all that glitters is not gold.” My hair looked really good, but that has more to do with my hair than these products. This kit is marketed to kinkier curls in the 3c and up range, but to be frank… it doesn’t provide that 3c plus moisture. No Lather Cleanser- 3/5 stars- I liked this but please realize that it does not clarify. It works well if you don’t use silicones, but it will NOT remove layers of build up. That said, my hair was soft after using it. It just wasn’t better than any other shampoo I already own. That’s when it went downhill. I used a clarifying shampoo after the no poo, so I could give an honest review on the conditioner. Daily Cream Conditioner 0/5 stars- I left it on overnight, as I do with all of my good conditioners, and my hair was a dry, knotty MESS. My poor hair was thirsty and it took a really long time to gently untangle it after using this. It felt like I hadn’t conditioned my hair at all. The slip is terrible and I had to use another conditioner to remedy the situation before moving on to the detangler. I was HIGHLY disappointed. Luxe Leave in Detangler (my kit did not come with the gel)- 0/5 stars- this wouldn’t have helped with detangling. I used it after I applied a second conditioner and detangled my hair. It made my hair feel even DRIER, AFTER I used a second conditioner to remedy the thirst. This was nonsense and I don’t even know why it’s included. It felt like I didn’t put anything on my hair, but somehow needed to apply MORE conditioner after using it. Taming Cream- 3.5/5 stars- this helped with a nice hold and gave me a smidge of moisture…. But that little bit of moisture wasn’t enough to combat the dryness. Overall, my curls and texture looked lovely, but there was more frizz than normal and my hair just didn’t *feel* healthy. I personally won’t use this kit again, but may give the taming cream another shot with other products. I received this kit complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Before I bought these I did do quite a bit of research on how to use them. Youtube and Pinterest were very helpful. While they are easy to use, they do take some practice. I have found that my hair needs to be mostly dry and to twist the section before I put it in the hook. Not just a little twist either, make sure it can stand up to the hook. When removing them I pinched the end that was close to my head and gently pulled. Some people have said to straighten the curlform and then pull. That did not work for me. The curls lasted most of the day. Overall, I am happy with my purchase.

I got these at Sally's with my Beauty Club discount and they are STILL 3x less expensive elsewhere online. I LOVE you Sally's, but why the huge markup on these? If you are hardcore into no-heat styling, however, the pricetag is about the same as what you'd pay for a good heat styling tool, so I guess it is up to you. I prefer to no-heat style, but for photoshoots and stuff, a heat styling tool gives me the most control. These curlformers, however, DO actually work and I love them. If you're in a warm/dry climate, I reckon these will work for you like a dream; if you live in a cold/humid climate, your hair type/texture/treatments are going to be a bigger factor. I suggest blowdrying clean hair to about 90-95% dry, add a tiny bit of leave in conditioner or dry oil, and then sectioning out the hair into locks for the curlformers. Alternate the direction of the spirals for a fuller, more natural look; strategically place the direction of the spirals for more control. Try not to overload each curlformer. 24 pieces is more than enough for thick hair if you just want some curl in your strands (14 work for my thick hair) , but for more distinct curls or waves, go ahead and use all 24. If you sleep in them, the fewer the better — they aren't necessarily uncomfortable if you have a pillow with some give, but take some getting used to. If you have a firm pillow, it will be/feel (literally) harder. Also, if you have very long hair (18 inches+) these will still work great: move the curlformer to the ENDS of your hair; it's fine if there is a good 6 inches between your scalp and the top of the curlformer. Also, the more slack between the curlformer and your scalp, the easier they are to sleep in. You still get good volume even if you're not curling directly at the root. When threading your hair through the curlformer, make sure you're only using as much hair as will fit — the size of the threader notch is a pretty good approximation, so don't overdo it or your hair won't dry evenly. You can still fit a lot of thickness in a curlformer, though. I suggest using a finger to help guide the hair totally into the threader hook, and then, when pulling the hair through, angle the opening of the threader hook up against the inside wall of the curlformer sleeve so that no rogue strands get tangled. Also, if you have long enogu hhair to move the curlformer down the harshafts, pyll your hair taught, and slide the curlformer down — less chance of tangles inside the sleeve that way. All in all, this system takes practice, not gonna lie. It may be frustrating using them the first few times. Stick with it, though, and the healthy no-heat curls you get will be worth it. The resulting curls can be great on their own, with some texturing spray, or serve as a foundation for some finer-tuning with a heat styling tool. But still… Sally's… $60+ for the kit? If you have a sibling/friend/flatmate who might share these with you (or you travel a lot and want to split the kit contents between home and lagguage, or maybe you jsut loose stuff a lot… LOL), get the kit (it even comes with two threader hooks!), otherwise, it might be less expensive to just get the threader and curlformers in separate, smaller packages. It only takes 14 for my thick, thick hair to get Victoria Secret waves, so if you have normal or thinner hair, 6-12 will do you just fine.

I love these curlformers! They take quite a bit of practice and time getting used to but once you know how to place them and wear them then they are great. I recently started spending a lot of money on getting my hair ombre'd from virgin black hair to a grey blonde so I wanted to look for healthier ways to style my hair other than using heat. I've tried flexi-rods but those would never stay on my hair overnight. I stumbled across these curlformers in the Sally store near me but when I saw the price I automatically thought NOPE. I'm glad one of the employees stopped me to tell me to give them a try! My boyfriend was with me and ended up buying them for me because he knows how hair crazy I've been lately (lol). In total, he paid $101 Canadian dollars which is INSANELY OVERPRICED…these should be more affordable in my opinion. Anyway, I don't wear the curlformers all the way to my roots like how they're supposed to be worn. I actually wear them starting at my mouth or chin-level downwards (my hair is just passed my chest). This way, I can push them back and out of the way when I sleep as I am a side sleeper (but wearing them this way could be comfortable for a back sleeper too!). I only put them on when my hair is about 90-95% dry after a shower. If my hair is second or third day old, I use a spray bottle and spray my hair a bit damp then put them on. Once I remove them, I wide-tooth comb out the curls and they look so lovely as if I used a curling wand or iron! The one downside to curlformers is that sometimes they leave a crease at the top of the curl, and sometimes if you use too big of a strand the curl doesn't last as long (even if left on overnight), but it doesn't show as much if you comb out the curls to even them out. This could be fixed by using the right products but I just haven't got around to using products with it as I am testing it out on its own. Please give these a try! I find that they are so worth it once you get used to them. They have become my daily styling tools!

If Noodle-head weighs your curls down too much, try this!! I have long, fine, curly-wavy hair that tends to be dry and fly-away. This does not weigh down curls or get greasy (noodlehead did both). It defines my curl pattern, eliminates frizz, adds shine, but does not get crunchy like a sprunch spray or gel. I finger comb sopping wet hair, *do not towel dry*, spray ends with generic leave-in conditioner, and scrunch in about a half-dollar sized puddle of this stuff from roots to ends. Gently squeeze with cotton tshirt and pile on top of my head in same shirt to air dry. I’m good for about three days with just water spritzing touchups and a little dry shampoo on day 4. Wish it csme in big pump bottle!
