Our dog has suffered from stinky breath forever even though she gets her regular vet cleanings, and we were using another tooth treatment. She’s a beagle / shitzu / pug mix, so she is already genetically doomed in the tooth area anyway, so I’ve always been concerned with her dental health and worried about it leading to other health issues. When I saw this, I was skeptical she wouldn’t notice it in her water. With that beagle nose, she sniffs out even the best tricks I try to pull, but she hasn’t noticed it yet, and the vet recently commented on how amazing we are doing with her teeth. I told her it is simply a matter of adding a cap full of the solution to her water every morning (I keep it by the sink since the bottle is small enough and doesn’t stick out, so I don’t forget.) and trust it is doing its thing. She told us to keep doing what we are doing and said she would check it out. So I have some reservations about this product. If you search other reviews across the internet, you get insane reports about this potentially causing seizures /epileptic episodes, wasting away, eye problems, all kinds of crazy stuff. However, it also does have a fair amount of people preaching that it's legit. The potential side effects are SEVERE, and it doesn't seem like the brand has done much to mitigate those cases or fears?? Knowing all that, I chose to use this for my cat with extreme caution. He gets stinky breath from whenever he eats fish based products (extreme common for cats) but the reason why I'm willing to take any of those risks is because it honestly reminds me of Accutane. I've never had to use Accutane myself, but I know that 1) It's a last resort 2) It is practically guaranteed to work 3) Side effects range from IBS to infertility /severe birth defects. So… my cat's halitosis isn't that severe to illicit the full dose. I use roughly half to a third of the recommended amount in his water fountain (which I highly recommend getting if you don't have one). So at a very low dose, his bad breath has indeed been kept at bay and I monitor his status very closely. This product works, I just strongly recommend using the lowest effective dose (just like with any human medication) and if your pet's breath is so dang stanky you feel like they need the full dose, I highly recommend exhausting all your other options first / supplementing with proper hand toothbrushing / diet changes. Unfortunately this gave my dog really bad diarrhea and discomfort. I wasn't sure if this was what caused the diarrhea initially so I took her off this for a couple days and added it back into her water after she recovered, she proceeded to have diarrhea again the next day. One of my dog absolutely loves this stuff. He knows when it's time for his teeth brushing and sits their and licks all of the paste through the cracks in his teeth while I brush. We got this on Amazon for my two schnauzers and I brush their teeth with this every night. The toothbrush provided is meant for medium size dogs and for the back teeth. I use my finger and a little toothpaste for the front teeth as it’s harder to use the brush there. Three months ago, after spending a small fortune getting both of my dogs teeth professionally cleaned, I am determined to stay on top of their dental hygiene everyday. Maybe this works for other cats, but my cat – who doesn't have a picky palette at all, for the record – sniffed this and completely avoided it. I tried exposing him to it over the course of a week or so, putting a little dab on his favorite treats just to see if he'd go for that. He did, very begrudgingly. I’ve never seen my dog have a physical reaction to anything like he did to the smell of this toothpaste. It’s like he was offended that I even offered it to him. With lots of praise and a little coercion he eventually let me brush he teeth a little bit. The smell is kind of off putting. I’ve smelled better pet tooth paste that was more appealing to pets. However, my cat is willing to let me brush his teeth with some bribery. I’ve used my finger like it says for first time brushers, (it came with a tooth brush and finger cap) and noticed i could feel some of the plague coming off his teeth as I was brushing. He doesn’t drool as much anymore either so this is really helping. The finger cap it came with is a bit big for a cats mouth so id prefer my finger over it. Bought this for Marnie and she got a little taste and was sneezing and walked away. She is 3 yrs old and has some bad breath for such a little dog, she refused both brushes and and we could not get either to get near her. The product smells nice and may work for large dogs or our dog may just be scared of everything but i was able to get a small amount on my finger and in her mouth , gum area before she ran off sneezing. The small one worked pretty well for the small dogs but the big one was too small for my big dog's teeth, especially his canines. I have been babysitting my sister’s dog (Pepper) for a while now and she gobbled the toothpaste treat right up! At first I was worried about how hard the treat would be but she chewed on them much faster than I expected. I think this product would be a great supplement to a regular toothbrushing routine. However, I am still not entirely sure whether or not it could replace traditional tooth brushing. The reason why is that she did not get a good chewing session out of it. I have 7 dogs and have been using this for a couple of weeks. I have to be honest, I'm not the best at remembering to use it, and when I do, it's only once a day. However, I am noticing a difference all ready. One of my rescued dogs came to me at 12 months old, his teeth were all ready in an appalling condition and he lost one very soon after arriving. After using this, and even though he doesn't like it at all, I'm starting to notice a difference. Another dog that came to me just over 11 weeks ago as a 4 year old, with teeth not in the best of condition, doesn't mind the spray at all, and is also showing improvement all ready. So, if I were to use it as directed, the results would probably be even better. This is so much easier than trying to brush, with visible results. Some of my dogs, who are all of the same breed, don't mind it and some hate it, but as it's very easy and quick to use it's not really a problem. I know I'm not using it as often as directed but, in view of the number of dogs I have, it really is going a long way so it's very good value for money, especially when compared to the cost of Veterinary dental treatment. When I first found out about this product, I used it to loosen tartar on my under one year old dogs teeth. And it worked! I was able to scrape off the tartar after about a week or so. My Chiweenie's teeth do not have tartar on them since I started using this. He has needed his teeth cleaned twice a year which is very expensive and potentially dangerous since they have to use general anesthesia. I purchased this tube from Chewy.com for my Sheltie. I've been brushing his teeth since he came home as a baby, and he also gets Plaqueoff in his food. The breed is notorious for dental issues, so I'm hoping to keep things at bay by being proactive with his dental health. Petsmile interested me because I saw that this was the only toothpaste with the VOHC seal–so I opted to try it. He doesn't seem to be in love with the flavor, which I took a shot on, but it's not bothering his gums or his stomach. He has some tooth staining, which this paste hasn't really removed, but I have noticed some small bits of plaque on his smaller bottom teeth is now gone, by about half. I brush his teeth every night, so other than adding this paste into our routine, I'm inclined to think that's what finally dissolved that tartar. Yay! I wish Petsmile offered every flavor in a smaller tube, though, because even though this was pricey, it was still cheaper than the $25 standard tube. I also am keeping my fingers crossed for a vanilla or mint flavor will become available, because my boy loves vanilla so much. I currently use a USDA organic dog toothpaste, which is cinnamon flavored, but it doesn't have the VOHC seal, nor the enzyme technology. However, he loves that flavor! I actually brush with the cinnamon flavored paste, then apply the Petsmile as a finisher, because it'll sit in his mouth all night and I do like the fact that brushing with this isn't necessary. We have been using this toothpaste for about 6 months, after having to spend $$$+ on specialty dental care. They had a follow up exam this week, and got an A from their veterinarian dentist. I ordered this months ago after checking the list of VOHC-approved dental products. I've always brushed my dogs teeth and, although this product is expensive, it's the only VOHC-approved toothpaste. I notice a difference in teeth cleanliness and am looking forward to the dogs next annual veterinary visit. The dogs might get a dental because all I can see is what's above the gum line, but if a visible inspection was the only criteria for a dental, my guys would not need one. I'm hoping this product will do all it says it will. It's too early to tell, but I can say there is literally no scent to the solution and our boy, Mace, drinks his water as if nothing was added. If it does help with plaque and/or bad breathe it's worth the price to me. Way better and safer than having him put to sleep and paying $300 for the procedureTERESITA
