I am using it on a low pile carpet and it is a perfect fit for my use area, desk on short side, reference table on the long side.It is working well for the last week. I loved my glass chair mat. Used it for 2 years without any issues. Left my home office on a Friday and all was great but Monday morning, I found it completely shattered all over my carpet for no reason. Nothing fell on it and the temp in the room was a constant 74 degrees.I am puzzled what caused my favorite mat to shatter and I am debating if I should buy another one. Cleaning glass from carpet is not something I recommend. This is shipped folded. Instructions state "allow to come to room temp for 24 hours before attempting to unfold so that it does not crack." Let's say 72 hours and then getting so frustrated that there was no change so that one must forcibly use a series of increasing weights to eventually flatten the mat. It took several days to flatten out even after flipping it upside down and back again. It is not hard enough to prevent imprinting chair casters after seated in chair. It might be best for hard floor or very low carpet, but too soft for anything above 1/2" carpet and pad. Best thing to say, reasonable price and chair moves easily, before impressions set in.GLENN
My biggest shock was that the mat came to me completely with out any kind of package or covering. The address label was simply stuck on the mat and that is how the driver delivered it to my house. The driver said he had never seen such a lack of delivery packaging. The mat was not damaged, but it seemed like an odd way to deliver a product that could scratch or crack. I liked that I was able to trim the chair mat with heavy duty scissors to make it fit around my desk. The mat finish looks nice and clean – not too dull and not too shiny. The problem is that my all oak desk chair has brass casters,so any place the casters have rested on the mat there is a deep dent.The mat does protect the carpet, but don't expect to push off from your desk with one foot and zoom to another location on this mat. I am renting and my home office has medium-height not great quality carpeting. I didn't want the chair mat with the spikes because I didn't want to risk damaging the carpet. This mat allows my chair to move, which is good, but it dents under the wheels and so then moving is more ornery because you have to roll the chair wheels up out of the dents to a new position and half the time it rolls back into the dents. I'm not a heavy/large woman; it's just not a thick enough chair mat for a carpet environment.Jenn
Just unrolling this thing for the first time was really difficult and I'm a relatively strong young guy. Followed the instructions for flattening it out by putting books on the edges. 2 days and it still curled up. I then put 20+ lb weights along the edges for the next 24 hours. Still curls up on the edges. Does it protect the floor? Sure, it does that, but the curled edges are a tripping hazard and the wheels of my chair get stuck on it when I roll on and off, plus it's noisy when you roll around because the chair pushes down raised areas and sticks to the floor temporarily until you roll off that section (bottom of the mat has a sticky texture). Do yourself a favor and pay a little extra for one of the options sold flat.Tonytony
I bought this mat for two reasons: it will help protect the wood portion of my floor and it helps smooth the transition between the wood portion of the floor and the area rug. It was SO annoying, as the area rug intruded a bit into the area where my chair would routine roll. Using this mat, I am able to protect the floor and hold down the area rug, now giving me a seamless surface on which to move. And, since it's clear, the look of the wood floor and the decorative carpet are both still visible. Protection and convenience, a great double feature from this mat. The only annoyance was how tightly rolled up they come when new. It took a LOT of manipulation and rolling in the opposite direction to get it somewhat flat, and since it's a bit tacky on the bottom side, this left fingerprints underneath. Even after I got it reasonably flat and in position, I had to surround the edges with HEAVY books to help flatten it out. After about a week, however, it was nice and perfectly flat, and has remained that way with no edge curls or other issues. There was also no issue with any annoying odors or smells that I notice with reviews for some of the other mat options. All in all, a great product and I'm very happy to have it. It is so much nicer to be able to effortlessly glide around in my chair without constantly snagging the carpet, and knowing my hardwood floors are protected is nice, as well!JamfoFL
