20 Best Detangler For Mixed Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I have very fine, high porosity (very absorbent), blonde curly hair. I don't have the best of luck with styling creams, some work and some weigh my hair down, some feel very crispy, some make my hair look instantly greasy. This stuff works! I wash and condition (sun bum regular or Pacifica pineapple curls) and then put a little of this styling cream into my wet but not sopping wet hair. Then I sleep on it and in the morning my hair is good to go. Nice natural looking and feeling curls that stay in. It detangles my hair also, which is great because the only time I dare brush my hair is right before a shower. Can't even use a pick on it, fingers only 😐Curly white girl

As someone who has stick straight hair, I love this product. A disclaimer, my hair is not capable of getting that cute scrunched look. If I want curls, heat is my only option. I shower, add the styling cream (smells amazing), air dry overnight, and then curl in the morning. This is the only product that I have used that will help my hair hold the curls in all weather and all day. I also use very minimal hairspray after curling. We own a Newfoundland that loves the water. Last week of June we had a hot spell where temps were in the 90s consistently for days. Nights were humid. Trying to make sure all our dogs had plenty of water, we neglected to do a brush out at night under our Newfies chin and around his ears. Consequently mats formed over the hot days with areas not drying completely which made the mats worse. Mane n tail was recommended, it does work with smaller mats, I spent several moments every day working on the larger mats, following the directions, with very little success. We learned a valuable lesson with our Newfs fur and what we need to do better. Ended up cutting the larger mats to a smaller size, then applying Mane n Tail working on the smaller size mats. Our Newf was very patient but would only hold still for 1015 minutes provided I moved to different areas on his chin, chest and ears. Chewys delivery was great, smell of the product was fine. Its not a miracle mat untangler, also depends on the kind of fur being untangled. Works much better on our Great Pyrenees fur than our Newfie fur.Anonymous

Just purchased this detangler and Im in love. Ive tried so many different detangler products, all of which have left me in rage mode, frustrated beyond belief. I have long down to my booty, extremely thick, color treated, super wavy hair. A recipe for disaster. No exaggeration it usually takes me a half hour to brush my hair out, and its typically a painful irritating process. Not anymore I spray a liberal amount of this miracle spray into my hair, allow it to saturate for a few minutes, and brush out my tangles with ease, in no time I doubt Ill try anything else. I enjoyed this entire line, and especially the conditioner. It’s smells great and does a fair job at moisturizing- definitely a great choice for people with hair that would ideally use regular tea tree shampoo, but can’t due to how drying it can be. The reason it’s receiving less than 5 stars is primarily for the fact that even though I have little bad to say about it, I only used it 5 or so times before I was craving my favorites, and letting my husband finish the Paul Mitchell bottles. He also liked it! Said the smell was great and his hair felt clean and soft. But when it ran out I asked if he wanted a new supply and he opted to just go back to his previous pick as well. I feel like overall it’s nice, but overpriced and a little mediocre. Also this is a little unrelated, but the more I realize how little Paul Mitchell cares to prevent their product from being diverted the less I care to try their products in the future. I bought this at Ulta at the end of September, 2022. It's a thick yellow liquid. It felt like my hair had wax on it in the shower, but it dried beautifully. I have untreated, long, blond hair. The strands glide off each other. My hair strands look thinner than before, but all muddiness is gone. My hair is much shinier, blonder, and smooth. I don't care for the scent but I can live with it. This item was not packed well and exploded in the package. Conditioner everywhere! I tried to return to Walmart but they told me to contact the seller. The seller requested photos, which I sent, and then I never heard from him again. I contacted him once more to see if I could get a refund and never heard a word. Mizani 25 Miracle Milk can be used on wet or dry hair. I like to use it right out of the shower as a regular leave in conditioner or in the mornings to refresh my hair. When using it on dry hair, I prefer to spray it directly onto the palms of my hands which makes it easier to evenly work the product into my hair. I love that Miracle Milk has multiple different hair benefits. This saves me time and money since I only have to use one product instead of various different products such as a detangling spray, gloss, leave in conditioner etc. The mist is fine and even but the smell is a little bit to strong for my liking. Unfortunately the leave in conditioner contains silicones in the form of amodimethicone. I try my best to choose silicone free products for my wavy/ curly hair but sometimes it is not possible. Mizani 25 Miracle Milk leave in treatment has been my go to for the past two week.. I have long, color treated, and dry hair that I typically treat with a leave in after washing. This has a pleasant soft scent that smells so good after getting out of the shower that it puts me in a good mood. It’s a nourishing blend of Ferrell seed oil, and sourced coconut oil. I’m happy with the results because my hair is super soft and manageable without being weighed down with any heavy build up on my roots. My hair has nice volume that extends for a long period of time throughout the day. In addition; this is recommended for all hair types! I’ve enjoyed using this to detangle my daughters hair. She seems to forget how to use a brush over the weekends. The price is decent for a 8.5 fl .oz at $25.00. (the brand considers this a mini). Full disclosure: my hair was very damaged when I started using this. I've used a number of dry/damaged hair care systems trying to repair it. After using these products, the healthy bits looked amazing, but the severely damaged part was so obvious, I decided to chop it off and start over. First impressions, the packaging is very attractive. I cleaned off a shelf in my shower to display the bottles. The lids open easily and pour cleanly. I used the detangling solution a few different ways: as a conditioner paired with the shampoo, as a leave-in applied to very wet hair immediately after washing, and as a leave-in applied to well towel-dried hair. It performed well in all situations, but I think my favorite is to use it as a conditioner. It is recommended for finer hair, like mine. My damaged hair knotted very easily, and this helped quite a bit with comb-out without lots of additional breakage. With my new, short cut, I like it as a styling leave-in, to help with fly-aways.catherine.o

I have an 8 year old daughter who has one of the thickest head of hair that I have ever seen. On top of that, she sleeps like a wild woman, so her hair gets extremely tangled. I had her try this detangling solution after using the matching shampoo. We followed the steps to let it soak and then rinsed. Her hair brushed through like butter yall. For the first time like ever we brushed her hair without any pain or discomfort. Typically brushing her hair was a huge ordeal and we both dreaded that part of the day. I will 100% be buying more of this product as soon as we start to run low. It can be used in addition to the conditioning balm, but to be honest it works wonderful on its own (after shampooing of course). I have a few issues with this product. The instructions on the back aren't helpful on when it's best to use this detangling solution. The instructions are basically the same for the detangling solution and the conditioner, which both say to use after the shampoo. So, is it better to use the detangler before or after conditioner? Or use the detangler instead of the conditioner? Also, Biolage designed the shampoo and conditioner to have different color caps. This was helpful in the shower so you didn't have to read the front of the bottle to know which one you needed to grab. However, the conditioner and detangling solution have the exact same cap. It would have been helpful to have a different color cap for the detangling solution as well. Those are only the design flaws I saw. The cap isn't a big deal but knowing when to use the detangling solution would've been helpful. My hair does not tangle easily and my opinion amount it's performance wouldn't be helpful. So instead, my financee with her finer, easily-tangling hair tried the detangling solution. She tried it at the end of her shower routine. She didn't notice a difference compared to her normal routine. She still had to use her detangling brush and the detangling solution didn't seem to affect how much she had to brush out the tangles. Overall, this detangling solution had a good fresh scent, but didn't have clear instructions and didn't work on my financee's hair. This product may help other people, but it didn't help her.sarah.j

This is an amazing product! I have tried several other detanglers and nothing compares to this product. This product was recommended by my daughter’s stylist for her hair and it works! My daughter has fine, medium density hair and it gets tangled very easily. She used to run away when I had to brush her hair and that ended when I started applying this product to her hair. I wash her hair with shampoo, but don’t always use conditioner. I towel dry her hair and apply 4-5 pumps to her hair and, voila! The brush () slides through with a little effort, but no tears. I let her hair air dry and it is still manageable in the morning. I highly recommend this product, but also warn that it has a strong scent.kate.c

I have extremely thick, curly/wavy hair with a bad frizziness problem and my curls never wanting to look and be their natural, beautiful, individual selves. I bought this detangler, the shampoo and conditioner for 130$ (I had a discount code) the price tag is WAY to high for what your getting. I get better results with redken or nexxus and for this price you get the largest bottle. I thought this could be a contender but the product it’s self does not justify the price. For the record I have long brown wavy hair. It works about as well at Giovanni products that you get at tj maxx for 10$. I feel like your mainly paying for the packaging which is beautiful btw. This stuff is AAHHHHMAAAZZING!! I literally bought the shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and blow out cream as a heat protector for blowdrying my hair. I'm an African American woman. I'm a 28 year old African-American female with relaxed hair (naturally it's very kinky/coily/afro). I don't heat style. After cleansing, I throw in four Dutch style braids, wrap my head in a silk scarf and go to bed. When I wake up, I take out the braids, "fluff" it to blend the sections and off I go. Very minimalist and time sensitive. When I received my Dermstore shipment of Oribe products – Priming Lotion, Curl Gelee and Styling Butter I was impressed by the beautiful boxes they came in (they're recycled from well managed forests and the writing is in vegetable ink); the bottles are beautiful too (you will want to keep and reuse); the smell is very pleasant, it's not over powering and nothing like you've smelled before. When I first applied it to my hair, I was NOT impressed, my hair didn't react like the lotion provided much "slip" like I would expect a detangling lotion to do. However, I was able to comb it through and continued to do my usual hair care regimen and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning and took down the braids, I had THE softest, shiniest, most defined curls I have ever had! Best detangler for kids I have ever used. It has excellent ingredients that provide really good slip for combing through long tangled hair. I love that it's not just a ton of glycerin with a fruity scent that leaves the hair feeling sticky without actually helping detangle like most detanglers for kids do. I should add my kids have straight hair of varying density, thickness, and texture, but it works for all of them. I'm familiar with Shea Moisture because I have wavy hair, but I'm telling you this product works on multiple textures. I even use it on my own sometimes. I've struggled to find a detangler that my hair agreed with but FINALLY I found one I like (it's always the kid products that turn out to be the best). It smells divine (my boyfriend could not stop sniffing my hair lol) and it really helps detangle my hair. I mainly use it after I dry my hair in a microfiber towel so that it's not fully dry but it's also not soaking wet. I spray a few sprays into my hair and slowly comb it out. To start, this conditioner is in my opinion the best smelling, detangling miracle I have ever used. I have THREE daughters 1 with thick wavy small s curl patterned hair I think 3c. 1 with thick wavy big s curl patterned hair and 1 with literally a mix of both top half of her hair has med s curls and the back has small s curls. And they all have a coarse patch right on the top middle of their heads, smh. I said all of that because THIS conditioner softens, smooths, absolutely detangles and has a lasting scent for a few days. I looove this stuff and the funny thing is I have never tried on my hair. This product defines curls with a glossy surface and bouncy movement. I like VitalCurl better than any of the other products on the market today because the scent is natural and not irritating to the nose and throat. I have very long fine hair that is bleached, so when my hair is super tangly, this directly causes breakage. I noticed that when I use purple shampoo to maintain my blonde color, my hair is significantly drier and more prone to being tangled. I decided to put this product to the test after washing my hair with purple shampoo. I sprayed a liberal amount on my wet hair and began to brush it slowly starting with the ends and moving my way up towards the root. PROS: This spray smells so pretty, and it does not weigh hair down or make it clumpy while blowdrying. My hair is dry, fine, and color treated, and I feel that this product does protect my strands from being fried while heat styling. However, the CONS are: not very moisturizing, not very noticeable, pricey. When I spray a treatment on, I like my hair to actually feel healthier to the touch as a result. This spray does not do that. I think that it is literally supposed to act as a barrier to heat styling and nothing more, which is fine. I did not like this product. I gave it two stars because this line is normally good on black hair. And it worked at the moment but not long lasting moisture. My hair type is of the tightest, driest coils (and curls) you can imagine – 4c, and what I would refer to as 4d. Wash day is a process, mainly because detangling takes so long, typically an hour and 1/2. I have to divide my long hair into four sections, and use as much product as possible. I only recently discovered this product, and the best thing I can say is it SIGNIFICANTLY reduced breakage while allowing a tangling teaser to get through it. There was barely any hair on my comb. However, I had to combine another product from the Aussie line, the Intense Hydration Oil. Its like the Detangling Milk needs assistance from the hydration oil. Those two together provide amazing slip, and smell wonderful. I layer it on thick, and really work it into my roots, without gathering my hair and creating more tangles in the process. Let me start with, I have frizzy curly damaged hair… so it’s hard to find a product that can style it right. That being said, this leave in mask did a pretty good job. I took a shower and about ten minutes later, I filled my hair with the leave in milk. Like any product, I didn’t put too much in, just enough to find a difference. The scent of the product is amazingggg, makes your whole head smell like flowers for hours. That was one of my favorite things I noticed, how great the product smelled in my hair. The product is user friendly, not messy at all and doesn’t run down your hands. I want to say that’s because of great packaging, so bonus points for that Aussie. Once the product was in my hair for a good amount of time, what I noticed right away was that it really did tame the frizz in my hair. What was surprising was how much frizz was tamed with this product, considering how little I put in my hair. So keep in mind, a little goes a long way with this product. As far as texture, my hair felt so soft and silky since I didn’t feel any of the frizz. The curls in my hair were emphasized, I was really impressed with this product after only using it once. I had the type of curls in my hair that people always compliment on… if that makes any sense. You know a product is great when you don’t have to use any other styling products to give your hair a good look. Typically I apply 2-3 different moose/gels in my hair before I leave my house, but when I used this leave in milk, I put nothing else in. ok so I had knots in my hair, that was from shampooing it and letting it air dry, so I'm like I need to find something, this said extreme I'm like ok great, so when I first got the bottle first thought was small, I could definitely say I thought I was getting a bigger bottle, no I'm not good with maths, however the detangler worked, the instructions said not to wash it out, it suppose to be like a leave in, I ended up shampooing my hair after using the detangler, I sprayed some on a good decent amount I'm sure the bottle on half, maybe three quarter, and I took a big teeth comb and it was very easy to comb out I will say hair still fell out, but that doesn't matter, it was able to comb through the knots most importantly, before the detangler, the comb was on the verge of breaking, overall good purchase, just see myself buying another bottle faster than expected.AMAZING

My daughter’s hairs were smooth and all of a sudden she got knots everyday. I bought this detangling spray and it helped tremendously. I would spray her wet hairs with 4-5 sprays before blow-drying. No more knots. I like it so much I bought 4 more bottles. I wash my daughter’s hairs everyday but I don’t know when we will run out of it.anna.c

I LOVE this detangler spray and so does my 7y year old. She has long, wavy hair that tangles faster than you can imagine. she is constantly moving, so her hair is ALWAYS getting knotted up. She has always cried when getting her hair combed. I have tried so many products, from cheap to VERY expensive to find a product that works like this one!!! After only a few days of using this product, her hair doesn't seem to knot up as easily and the tangles she does get comb out with ease. My daughter also happy with how much less time is needed to come out knots and that it "doesn't hurt so much". I wish I could have found this product YEARS ago!!Melanie

My 4 year old daughter has terribly tangle prone hair. We have tried a couple of other detangle products with not much luck. Brushing her hair has always been a daily battle. But this stuff is amazing! It works so well – I was able to brush almost completely through her hair after spraying it on with almost no effort. I still had to spend a couple of minutes on the really tough tangles, but in the past I couldn’t get them out at all and now they are completely gone. Happy customer! Will definitely buy again.LA82

My hair is naturally curly. I tried many products to try and keep the freeze at bay. The humidity where I live is ridiculous. This actually helped me out so so much. My hubby bought me the dyson hair curler set, as soon as I was done the curls would fall and the frizz took over. I wanted to love the dyson, but was really regretting the amount my hubby paid for it. Mixed chicks saved me totally… I gave it a try with my dyson and it actually worked wonders. I air curled it yesterday and they are still looking good today. This does work on all hair types. My oldest daughter's hair is closer to mine with a lot of frizz and my youngest has the brittle hair texture with the tighter curls. Both are also loving this. Price is a bit high, which is why I wanted to do a review…it is worth taking that chance….I am so glad I did.Penny

My go to leave in. Blends in smoothly and my hair soaks up this product. What needs to be improved is the smell of this product because it's underwhelming. Also sometimes the product can leave my curls crunchy if I don't follow up with a smoothing styling cream or an oil. Other than that I find that these are small sacrifices based off the other leave-in conditioners that are on the market that will sometimes leave my hair with lots of residue or no moisturized. I am no hair expert. I have semi curly, semi wavy, straight in some places, a little dry here, a little oily there type of hair. It just doesn’t know what it is doing. I wash with a very good shampoo, condition, then put this absolute miracle, light weight leave-in conditioner in my hair and all of a sudden my hair gets its act together! With Mixed chicks my hair seems to uniformly curl, uniformly have even, healthy moisture, and I do not need any chemicals! No need for mousse, gel, hair spray, or to apply heat.Big4Momma

This is the BESSSSSST detangling product I have ever used. I discovered this 6 months ago. This product was missing from Sally’s site for a few months & I thought it was discontinued. I had a heart attack & tried other brands to see if I could find a back up. I still cannot find another mist that works this good. I have straight, coarse, thick hair that is bleached. It gets tangled so easily and this stuff is like magic to get it out. I’ve had huge bird nest-like knots before & this got them out with no breakage. This was a very helpful product. Although I also paired this with SILK ELEMENTS. The Ion detangling mist smelled very good although to improve this product I would have to say try to some way improve the long lasting. It drys out very fast on my hair. This is still a good product, was very helpful for me I have naturally thick curly hair so I get tangles alot and sometimes they get pretty bad so this was very very helpful for me personally. This is my first time trying this. It leaves my hair really soft and silky. I have only used it a couple times so far so can't speak for longer or more frequent use. I did not have an issue with it making my hair oily or anything. As far as the scent, it's not great, but not bad either. Other products have a more pleasant scent, in my opinion. This is such a cute and sturdy brush. My head is very sensitive and I absolutely hate brushing my hair and even more so when it’s dry. I have 3b type hair and I don’t normally use brushes with bristles like these anymore, but I decided to try it on my dry and tangled hair and I have to say that I like it. The bristles are a lot softer than I expected and they move with your hair while you brush so it makes it a lot less painful. And because the bristles are soft they can get damaged pretty easily. Thankfully, it comes with its own case that protects them! Overall I’m enjoying this brush and I think it’s time to ditch my old one for this one 3shana.a

This brush is the best brush I’ve honestly ever used on my curly hair. It is nice and flexible to reduce the tension on the hair which helps with breakage. It glides through the hair and makes it easy to detangle. It is also super easy to clean because the bristles are smooth and allows the hair to be pulled right off. I can’t think of any way to make it better, really. It even comes with a little zip up case to keep the unruly hair covered and hidden.elena.l

My hair is thick. THICK! I have early childhood memories of hiding from my mom so she couldn't brush my hair… The smell of detangler is nostalgic. Never have I had a hair brush run through my hair so painlessly, so effortlessly. This brush is the bomb. If you have curly hair, this brush is for you. I absolutely love, love, love Lolavie’s glossing detangler, perfecting leave-in, and lightweight hair oil! They leave my hair feeling super soft, well protected, and smelling great! My hairdresser has even noticed an improvement in the health of my hair. Unfortunately, the shampoo and conditioner don’t work very well with my hair type. I have very fine hair that I wash every other day. When I use the Lolavie shampoo and conditioner, my hair doesn’t stay as clean for as long and I end up having to wash it everyday or spritz it with a dry shampoo. I’m not sure why, maybe there’s an ingredient in there that’s a bit too heavy for my hair. ‍♀ Plus, the square bottles are a bit awkward to squeeze. BUT the detangler, leave-in, and oil have become staples in my hair care routine. Thank you for making such brilliant products!Kristen G.

OMGoodness the glossing detangler is THE BEST detangler I have ever used and that is saying something. I am 47, have very fine, long, straight hair that literally tangles up the minute you finish running a large-toothed comb through it. I have tried so many detanglers over the years, this is by far the best. Also, it smells lovely and is not overpowering at all, massive bonus points for good ingredients. Never in my life have I been able to wake up and comb through my hair in the morning without a single issue. I wear an N-95 mask at work and in public, so far I have had no issue whatsoever. I cannot say that about any of the previous, and more expensive, detanglers I have tried. It is a pretty windy day today in Seattle, normally my ponytail would be a huge, snarled knot after running errands and walking about- not so today! I am so very thankful for this detangler, it is AWESOME! Good grief I am indeed fangirling a bit… I do spray 2-3 sprays into my hand first, then apply to hair as fine hair always tends to look funky (not the good funky) when you spray product directly onto the hair. This is along review. I have dirty dishwater color (why is THIS the only color that is derogatory…discussion for another day) fine, slightly curly hair. I have always had frizzy hair no matter what color I changed it to, or now, au natural. When I was young my mother would put V05 (You could smell it in my hair yuk) to tame my hair (living on east coast, so lots of humidity). So in SoCal it is dry often but I still had the frizzy type curls. I have so many partial bottles of hair products that say they will calm my frizz, and when I want to, tame the curls. For many, many, many years (wait decades!) trying products on their own and mixing them together but nothing ever worked consistently. Then I heard about Lolavie Glossing Detangler spray. And I thought, just another actress touting a product, probably doesn't work (I apologize now to Ms. Aniston). But then I remembered that Ms. Aniston has some Greek curls and she too likes to tame them. (Im 1/2 Italian) So hmmm….ok, I'll try it, but it probably won't work I think as I'm punching in my payment, hmmm…not high priced, well considering what I've spent over the last few decades I can always give it away if it doesn't work. So I tried it, and wow it worked great the first time, smelled great (in that the smell is not overpowering where someone might notice). Then I used it again, & again, & again, & again, & again…well you get the picture. This wonderful, wonderful spray has cured my problems with stying my hair! ONE PRODUCT!!!! Lolavie Glossing Detangler! Awesome, beyond awesome. I've used a little bit, a lot, on wet hair, slightly wet hair, almost air dried hair (told you I TRIED it) & it styles out perfectly almost every time (at this point it's user error if it doesn't; o). I now have only ONE product and it works! I'm on my second bottle, which brings me to another reason why I like this product. When I finally used all my spray in the 1st bottle I figured there would probably be alot left in the bottom because previous products I encountered never properly sprayed all the product out. But Lolavie Glossing Detangler was good to the last drop (sorry, bad pun but truth of product). I mean it this is awesome for 64 year old hair (told you, decades) that has been permed (bad) bleached white/blond, (it was the 80's) highlights, low lights, menopause…ok maybe TMI. And I almost never write reviews maybe 1% of all my purchases have I reviewed. I only take the time to write a review when my experience might help someone take care of something that they have been trying. I bought this for my neice coming to visit me. She always wants in my professional hair stuff…. So becayse she's so young I went out and grabbed her own "product" for her to keep at my house. She lived the smell..and felt like a big kid gwtting to help her hairdresser Auntie help do her hair!! It is not sticky or tacky. When this runs out… I will definitely buy another for her bc she us so young. 3 stars just bc its a johnson product and not a trye professional hair care product. Good luck! This product was on sale and so i bought this instead of what i ususally buy. This product smells pretty good not exactly like strawberries but still really sweet! My girls really like the color of the bottle and it is a little bit easier to hold the bottle with the ripples on the side but is off set buy how flat the bottle is. The spray just shoots out and only mists a little making it difficult to work with. Because of the spray i wont be buying this product again; i makes only chuncks of her hair wet instead dampening her hair like i need. The formula is nice and helps with detangling hair so i will only be using the rest of this product as backup.heaven.r

My son has really long, thick, and curly hair. He is also severely autistic and can’t stand the sound or feel of his hair being cut. (It take at least two adults 3 hours). Since it is not always in the cards to cut his hair we use this so we can brush it with the least amount of problems. I have tried several other brands as well as leave in conditioner this is the only thing that works. He even loves to have it sprayed on his head. When he gets out of the shower and first thing in the morning he will bring it to me. I would recommend that anyone in the same circumstances or with a hair type like his use this product it is awesome . I added a picture of him from the back it does not smooth his hair but it tames iterica.l
