20 Best Detangler For Wavy Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I have very fine, high porosity (very absorbent), blonde curly hair. I don't have the best of luck with styling creams, some work and some weigh my hair down, some feel very crispy, some make my hair look instantly greasy. This stuff works! I wash and condition (sun bum regular or Pacifica pineapple curls) and then put a little of this styling cream into my wet but not sopping wet hair. Then I sleep on it and in the morning my hair is good to go. Nice natural looking and feeling curls that stay in. It detangles my hair also, which is great because the only time I dare brush my hair is right before a shower. Can't even use a pick on it, fingers only 😐Curly white girl

As someone who has stick straight hair, I love this product. A disclaimer, my hair is not capable of getting that cute scrunched look. If I want curls, heat is my only option. I shower, add the styling cream (smells amazing), air dry overnight, and then curl in the morning. This is the only product that I have used that will help my hair hold the curls in all weather and all day. I also use very minimal hairspray after curling. This truly is a magic cream for super straight hair that doesn’t hold a curl!becka

My hair is living her best life with this curl cream!! I've been Garnier-loyal for over 10 years, but after one use of this cream, I was sold. I have 3 different textures of hair: the front/sides are soft, tight spirals, the back is frizzy, tight spirals, and the underneath is soft and wavy at most. I've been a huge fan of Sun Bum for a few years now, so I was amped when I saw that they made special curly hair products! This costs about twice as much as my old curl cream, however, I use about 1/2 to 2/3 what I used to use, and my hair is 10 times as happy. I've also been using it with shampoo/conditioners other than Sun Bum's until I finish my old stockpile, and this cream is a stand-alone master. We own a Newfoundland that loves the water. Last week of June we had a hot spell where temps were in the 90s consistently for days. Nights were humid. Trying to make sure all our dogs had plenty of water, we neglected to do a brush out at night under our Newfies chin and around his ears. Consequently mats formed over the hot days with areas not drying completely which made the mats worse. Mane n tail was recommended, it does work with smaller mats, I spent several moments every day working on the larger mats, following the directions, with very little success. We learned a valuable lesson with our Newfs fur and what we need to do better. Ended up cutting the larger mats to a smaller size, then applying Mane n Tail working on the smaller size mats. Our Newf was very patient but would only hold still for 1015 minutes provided I moved to different areas on his chin, chest and ears. Chewys delivery was great, smell of the product was fine. Its not a miracle mat untangler, also depends on the kind of fur being untangled. Works much better on our Great Pyrenees fur than our Newfie fur.Anonymous

Just purchased this detangler and Im in love. Ive tried so many different detangler products, all of which have left me in rage mode, frustrated beyond belief. I have long down to my booty, extremely thick, color treated, super wavy hair. A recipe for disaster. No exaggeration it usually takes me a half hour to brush my hair out, and its typically a painful irritating process. Not anymore I spray a liberal amount of this miracle spray into my hair, allow it to saturate for a few minutes, and brush out my tangles with ease, in no time I doubt Ill try anything else. I bought this detangler, the shampoo and conditioner for 130$ (I had a discount code) the price tag is WAY to high for what your getting. I get better results with redken or nexxus and for this price you get the largest bottle. I thought this could be a contender but the product it’s self does not justify the price. For the record I have long brown wavy hair. It works about as well at Giovanni products that you get at tj maxx for 10$. I feel like your mainly paying for the packaging which is beautiful btw. There’s just not enough product and it doesn’t work well enough for this to be a consistent buy. This is definitely not for thin hair or straight hair as the product is heavy.hiltz678

This stuff is AAHHHHMAAAZZING!! I literally bought the shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and blow out cream as a heat protector for blowdrying my hair. I'm an African American woman. I don't know what my curl pattern is. It's a loose curl pattern and my hair is fine and thinning in some areas. I wanted to try a luxury shampoo and invest in a product line for healthier hair. I will spend the next three months using this product line to see how my hair truly likes it. The leave in smells amazing. I don't smell the wet dog smell people are talking about and I have two dogs. Maybe these are the people who don't like cilantro because it taste like soap too. I'm a 28 year old African-American female with relaxed hair (naturally it's very kinky/coily/afro). I don't heat style. After cleansing, I throw in four Dutch style braids, wrap my head in a silk scarf and go to bed. When I wake up, I take out the braids, "fluff" it to blend the sections and off I go. Very minimalist and time sensitive. When I received my Dermstore shipment of Oribe products – Priming Lotion, Curl Gelee and Styling Butter I was impressed by the beautiful boxes they came in (they're recycled from well managed forests and the writing is in vegetable ink); the bottles are beautiful too (you will want to keep and reuse); the smell is very pleasant, it's not over powering and nothing like you've smelled before. When I first applied it to my hair, I was NOT impressed, my hair didn't react like the lotion provided much "slip" like I would expect a detangling lotion to do. However, I was able to comb it through and continued to do my usual hair care regimen and went to bed. When I woke up the next morning and took down the braids, I had THE softest, shiniest, most defined curls I have ever had! Full disclosure: my hair was very damaged when I started using this. I've used a number of dry/damaged hair care systems trying to repair it. After using these products, the healthy bits looked amazing, but the severely damaged part was so obvious, I decided to chop it off and start over. First impressions, the packaging is very attractive. I cleaned off a shelf in my shower to display the bottles. The lids open easily and pour cleanly. I used the detangling solution a few different ways: as a conditioner paired with the shampoo, as a leave-in applied to very wet hair immediately after washing, and as a leave-in applied to well towel-dried hair. It performed well in all situations, but I think my favorite is to use it as a conditioner. It is recommended for finer hair, like mine. My damaged hair knotted very easily, and this helped quite a bit with comb-out without lots of additional breakage. With my new, short cut, I like it as a styling leave-in, to help with fly-aways.catherine.o

I have an 8 year old daughter who has one of the thickest head of hair that I have ever seen. On top of that, she sleeps like a wild woman, so her hair gets extremely tangled. I had her try this detangling solution after using the matching shampoo. We followed the steps to let it soak and then rinsed. Her hair brushed through like butter yall. For the first time like ever we brushed her hair without any pain or discomfort. Typically brushing her hair was a huge ordeal and we both dreaded that part of the day. I will 100% be buying more of this product as soon as we start to run low. It can be used in addition to the conditioning balm, but to be honest it works wonderful on its own (after shampooing of course). I have a few issues with this product. The instructions on the back aren't helpful on when it's best to use this detangling solution. The instructions are basically the same for the detangling solution and the conditioner, which both say to use after the shampoo. So, is it better to use the detangler before or after conditioner? Or use the detangler instead of the conditioner? Also, Biolage designed the shampoo and conditioner to have different color caps. This was helpful in the shower so you didn't have to read the front of the bottle to know which one you needed to grab. However, the conditioner and detangling solution have the exact same cap. It would have been helpful to have a different color cap for the detangling solution as well. Those are only the design flaws I saw. The cap isn't a big deal but knowing when to use the detangling solution would've been helpful. My hair does not tangle easily and my opinion amount it's performance wouldn't be helpful. So instead, my financee with her finer, easily-tangling hair tried the detangling solution. She tried it at the end of her shower routine. She didn't notice a difference compared to her normal routine. She still had to use her detangling brush and the detangling solution didn't seem to affect how much she had to brush out the tangles. Overall, this detangling solution had a good fresh scent, but didn't have clear instructions and didn't work on my financee's hair. This product may help other people, but it didn't help her.sarah.j

My hair type is of the tightest, driest coils (and curls) you can imagine – 4c, and what I would refer to as 4d. Wash day is a process, mainly because detangling takes so long, typically an hour and 1/2. I have to divide my long hair into four sections, and use as much product as possible. I only recently discovered this product, and the best thing I can say is it SIGNIFICANTLY reduced breakage while allowing a tangling teaser to get through it. There was barely any hair on my comb. However, I had to combine another product from the Aussie line, the Intense Hydration Oil. Its like the Detangling Milk needs assistance from the hydration oil. Those two together provide amazing slip, and smell wonderful. I layer it on thick, and really work it into my roots, without gathering my hair and creating more tangles in the process. Let me start with, I have frizzy curly damaged hair… so it’s hard to find a product that can style it right. That being said, this leave in mask did a pretty good job. I took a shower and about ten minutes later, I filled my hair with the leave in milk. Like any product, I didn’t put too much in, just enough to find a difference. The scent of the product is amazingggg, makes your whole head smell like flowers for hours. That was one of my favorite things I noticed, how great the product smelled in my hair. The product is user friendly, not messy at all and doesn’t run down your hands. I want to say that’s because of great packaging, so bonus points for that Aussie. Once the product was in my hair for a good amount of time, what I noticed right away was that it really did tame the frizz in my hair. What was surprising was how much frizz was tamed with this product, considering how little I put in my hair. So keep in mind, a little goes a long way with this product. As far as texture, my hair felt so soft and silky since I didn’t feel any of the frizz. The curls in my hair were emphasized, I was really impressed with this product after only using it once. I had the type of curls in my hair that people always compliment on… if that makes any sense. You know a product is great when you don’t have to use any other styling products to give your hair a good look. Typically I apply 2-3 different moose/gels in my hair before I leave my house, but when I used this leave in milk, I put nothing else in. The product alone styled my hair in a way that I didn’t need anything else! That is the absolute best thing about this product. Styling often takes so much time out of your day, so to know I have a product I can count on to use real quick out the shower is amazing. I’m going away for the summer and have been on the hunt for a quick styling cream for my hair to keep up with the frizz and humidity that comes with summer time weather. After using this leave in mask, I have officially found my summer hair product. I’m so glad I had the chance to try to this product out, I definitely recommend it to all curly hair girls out there. This product is by far the best product I have used for my curly hair. First I was not aware of the Porosity factor when selecting hair care products. I learned I had HIGH Porosity Hair – and most products left my hair feeling like straw. With the NOU Conditioner and then the Leave IN conditioner, my curls are defined and soft. My hair has truly been transformed. And for Less than 10 a bottle!! I have tried Devacurl, Twisted Sister, Paul Mitchell, Ouidad, Twist, Aussie for Curly, Curlsmith etc. I am so impressed with this product line. ok so I had knots in my hair, that was from shampooing it and letting it air dry, so I'm like I need to find something, this said extreme I'm like ok great, so when I first got the bottle first thought was small, I could definitely say I thought I was getting a bigger bottle, no I'm not good with maths, however the detangler worked, the instructions said not to wash it out, it suppose to be like a leave in, I ended up shampooing my hair after using the detangler, I sprayed some on a good decent amount I'm sure the bottle on half, maybe three quarter, and I took a big teeth comb and it was very easy to comb out I will say hair still fell out, but that doesn't matter, it was able to comb through the knots most importantly, before the detangler, the comb was on the verge of breaking, overall good purchase, just see myself buying another bottle faster than expected.AMAZING

I have fine hair and lots of it that basically turns into a knotty birds nest on wash day. I bought this to prevent any brassiness from creeping in during a recently holiday. It’s a nice scent, not too strong, and provided nice texture. My hairdresser recommended a flexible, soft bristle brush when I had my extensions put in, so it wouldn't tear at my scalp when I brush my hair. I was worried it wouldn't work well without stiff bristles, but this brush is great! It works well to detangle and it is so much more gentle on my hair than my old paddle brush. My son is 4 years old and has the most horrible tangles ever! (He also has curly hair) I swear he was breaking brushes left and right. I absolutely loved this detangler. Usually after conditioning and before styling, I need that extra something in my hair that leaves it moisturizing and tangle free and I felt like this product did just the thing! Since I have low porosity hair, products tend to sit on top of my strands but I felt like this did a great job saturating my hair pretty quickly. I received my full size sample of the leave in conditioner. my hair is shoulder length, thick and curly. this was my first time trying and was so nauseous with the "scent". Not only did it smell horrible but left my hair so greasy and the next day knotted. I usually wash my hair every 3-4 days, as it is highlighted, but I had to wash my hair the very next day to just get the smell out. Maybe this is not for me, but my honest opinion is I would definitely not recommend the leave in to anyone with highlighted hair, or color treated for that matter.jessica.b

I received these products for free from Influenster and Zotos in exchange for my honest review. I have never really used detangler for my mop. I just brush through the pain. I received this product and figured I’d give it a shot. You only need a tiny bit. My hair is pretty long and I used about a dime size. It smelled really good out of the bottle and when I applied it to my freshly washed hair, my brush glided right through with no yanking and no pain. A win win!Amy

I received this for free from influenster for an honest review. This is where it's at! It smells great and works great! My hair gets SO tangled because it's pretty thick and pretty wavy/curly but this worked so much better than any other detangler ever has. I started using this on recommendation from an associate at Ulta because the ends of my hair was dry, brittle and crunchy! After using it for a little over 2 weeks, I went to my usual hair appointment and my stylist asked me what I had been using as my hair was in great shape! Wow, finally a leave-in that actually hydrates my heavily bleached high porosity hair. I bought this during the sale because I liked Verb products in the past (the Sea line, before I bleached my hair), and like that the fragrance isn't heavy or obnoxious. I still feel like I need an oil or something to really seal and tame my ends, because they get tangled really easily otherwise. Overall I am happy with my purchase, but I did take off a star because it claims too much. Let's be real now, nothing can "repair" your ends. I also do not think this gives me any shine.petitesrule

Best detangler for kids I have ever used. It has excellent ingredients that provide really good slip for combing through long tangled hair. I love that it's not just a ton of glycerin with a fruity scent that leaves the hair feeling sticky without actually helping detangle like most detanglers for kids do. I should add my kids have straight hair of varying density, thickness, and texture, but it works for all of them. I'm familiar with Shea Moisture because I have wavy hair, but I'm telling you this product works on multiple textures. I even use it on my own sometimes. I've struggled to find a detangler that my hair agreed with but FINALLY I found one I like (it's always the kid products that turn out to be the best). It smells divine (my boyfriend could not stop sniffing my hair lol) and it really helps detangle my hair. I mainly use it after I dry my hair in a microfiber towel so that it's not fully dry but it's also not soaking wet. I spray a few sprays into my hair and slowly comb it out. To start, this conditioner is in my opinion the best smelling, detangling miracle I have ever used. I have THREE daughters 1 with thick wavy small s curl patterned hair I think 3c. 1 with thick wavy big s curl patterned hair and 1 with literally a mix of both top half of her hair has med s curls and the back has small s curls. And they all have a coarse patch right on the top middle of their heads, smh. I said all of that because THIS conditioner softens, smooths, absolutely detangles and has a lasting scent for a few days. I looove this stuff and the funny thing is I have never tried on my hair. This is an amazing product! I have tried several other detanglers and nothing compares to this product. This product was recommended by my daughter’s stylist for her hair and it works! My daughter has fine, medium density hair and it gets tangled very easily. She used to run away when I had to brush her hair and that ended when I started applying this product to her hair. I wash her hair with shampoo, but don’t always use conditioner. I towel dry her hair and apply 4-5 pumps to her hair and, voila! The brush () slides through with a little effort, but no tears. So personally this brush is not great whatsoever when it comes to detangling my hair (I have type 3c/4a curly hair.) I bought this brush about 1-2 years ago and tried using it multiple but every time I would use it my curls would get really clumped together, I would have a lot naps/knots, and the definition in my hair was never as good as when I would use my fingers. However, recently I have finally found a use for this brush when it comes to styling my hair. This brush is amazing when it comes to slicking my hair back in ponytails and other slick back styles. The Denman brush is such a great styling tool. I would not recommend using this as a detangling brush if you have thick coily hair but as a styling brush it works perfectly. I have type 4 hair and it defines my curls beautifully with the help of some leave-in conditioner and gel. I definitely recommend giving this brush a try. The “Denman” brand is a bit expensive, but there are other brands that sell the same style of brush. They all work the same. You can purchase this product at most beauty supply stores.geena.c

I bought the brush because of the good description. Unfortunately, I am very disappointed.. Positive: – the brush is good in the hand. – The brush pulls dog hair well out of the hair thanks to the rubber pad (have 4 Hundeli..) – when wet, the brush can arrange the hair very well and the long bristles are enough even for my thick, long North African hair! Negatives: – The brush pulls strongly and is painful. – The bristles are exrtrem Hard and not flexible (the solid rubber pad gives only a little). – I wear a vintage cut for vintage curls, meaning my hair is not layered. The brush struggles at the tips. It gets through the top pretty well, the bottom I usually have to help with my fingers. – Never in my life have I had statically charged hair! I use a Schwerses hair oil for Indian hair…. nevertheless, this brush creates it after a brush stroke on dry hair that the hair flies around everywhere. Even "unloaded" on the heater / water tap of the brush brings nothing! Immediately it charges widee. (Hairspray also does not help…) My hair is always air-dried and kept supple with oil. The clothes I wear (even without clothes and without carpet…) does not change anything…. This one point brings me to such a negative rating. I've never had this in my life… and the brush is touted as extra static charge resistant thanks to rubber pads… too bad. Use it only wet… although I have actually ordered to the same order a Wetbrush… this wiederrum I use now dry, because it does not charge.Fatima

My hair has gotten really long and because I wear it up alot I find I need a conditioner that will allow me to detangle. I was shopping yesterday and had not heard of the brand but frankly the packaging caught my attention. Made the purchase, used today, and I LOVE it. Detangles my hair without leaving it heavy. Also, I actually love the smell which I would describe as a fresh smell. Bought because the packaging was pretty and ended up with a great new product. The spray is very fine and misty- which I am impressed with. Good consistency. Works well as a leave in. The deal breaker for me is the smell which is kinda powdery and strong. The fragrance reminds me of my grandparents' powder room or my grandma's old perfume. Could just be a me thing. I'm returning it because of the strong, unpleasant smell. I will try another from this brand- and hope that the smell is more pleasant for me. I do have high hopes I can find another one that works well and Daniella better.Janice Ian

I received this sample size product complimentary to try from Influenster and Moroccanoil for my honest review and opinion. I really liked the smell of this cream. My hair is kinda weird it’s curly underneath but on top it’s more wavy and frizzy. The parts where my hair is naturally more curly curled super pretty and looked great but the wavier pieces it didn’t change much. It felt a little heavy also but I may have just used to much product. I feel i would need to use it a few more times to give a more accurate review but right now I’d say it’s an average curl defining cream. I also let my hair air dry and I’m curious how it would look if I used a diffuser. I think I’ll end up buying a full size and give it a try. My daughter also has curlier hair than I do and I feel it may be better with her texture and curl. Overall I liked it and would recommend it for anyone with curlier hair.Meliss86

I LOVE this product and this whole brand. I was sent a sample of the curl defining cream and the smell won me over instantly. It just makes your hair smell so good. My husband thought it was my shampoo or conditioner, but he told me my hair smelt so good the first time I used this product. I even went and bought the perfect defense heat protector spray after they sent me this sample. I use it after I curl my hair with my straightener and it just makes my hair smell amazing, reduces any frizz left, and makes my curls bouncy. I also let my daughter use it and she loved it as well. She has super curly ringlets and used it after a shower and her curls looked so good. They were bouncy and frizzless. Received this as a free sample from Influenster. The sample size was a bit too small for me to get a full idea of how this product works for my hair specifically as I usually need a few weeks of use to make a fair judgement, but from a limited perspective, my takeaways are as follows: Smell- amazing, the standard MoroccanOil smell Texture- I prefer styling creams and used this in place of my current one and I did notice that this left a bit of a shell to my hair after use. If I had enough to try again, I may use a bit less product next time, though I didn’t use much. Seems pretty concentrated. If I had received a full bottle, I do think I’d continue to use it until it ran out but I don’t think I’ll be purchasing this item. Everyone’s hair is different and mine reacted sort of “meh.” Not bad but not impressive either. I think fans of the line will not regret the purchase, however I didn’t find that I had any urge to switch from my current styling cream (although this one smells so much better)roxanneh
