20 Best Detangler Shampoo For Black Hair (Jan 2023 Update)

I was able to try this product in exchange for review, which I was thrilled about as I have always wanted to try this particular Shea Moisture line. I have heavily highlighted and have attacked it quite regularly with hot tools. Add in pandemic self-done haircuts, my hair has been feeling rather dry and brittle. After two weeks of using this shampoo, twice a week, My hair feels moisturised but perhaps a little too much so. For my particular hair, I cannot use this is my go-to shampoo, but more as a twice a month or so treatment shampoo. The texture is not like any I have tried before, it is a semi-viscus liquid that pours out like a watery honey, not at all like a standard shampoo, so pay attention in the shower! The smell is a comforting warm vanilla. For my hair this product is a little too moisturising to use with every wash, but if you have coarser hair than mine, I definitely say give it a whirl. I will repeat purchase, as this shampoo does strengthen & restore my hair due effective natural components: Jamaican Black Castor oil, Fair Trade Shea Butter & Peppermint. It's sulfate-free, eligible for colored hair, by the way. The scent is really extremely pleasant like parfume for hair. My man loves the aroma & makes compliments. The only minus that I detected is that as It nourishes hair, my hair becomes one day ahead in comparison with other shampoos with cleaning leading role, not restoring. But I am completely OK with it, as benefits prevail. After use my hair has beautiful silky shine & it becomes healthier. It has helped me to resolve hair loss as well. I recommend this shampoo because of effective natural components & it really worked for my hair. This is my 2nd bottle & will buy more, but in large volume 384 ml! I was able to try the Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo as a #freeproduct with #trywithtopbox & was pleasantly surprised. Keeping in mind this is a restorative shampoo it's very unconventional in the way it looks, smells & shampoos the hair. I was very skeptical but was used to it by the 2nd to 3rd time using it. It doesn't suds up/lather as much as a regular shampoo but it does if you really massage the hair well & give it a second shampoo. The color doesn't bother me as I said you get used to it. My hair didn't have the traditional "clean" feeling the first time I used it but there's a definite silkier almost more creamy feel to the hair after using it which is nice. This was a nice surprise! After using it for a few weeks now, I feel like again, I'm used to it & it leaves the hair clean & amazingly hydrated. Keep in mind this is all because this shampoo is sulfate-free (which is a good thing!). So give it a chance! You wouldn't necessarily use this if you have a ton of product in your hair you need to get off (lots of hairspray, gel etc,). This could be used for the second round of shampooing. So recommend to use this when you need some hydration & your hair is heat damaged. Also big plus it didn't burn my eyes which is my number one test with any shampoo especially when I saw the highlighted ingredients as peppermint & apple cider vinegar. I detest mint in general (esp in hair care) & have used products with lots of tea tree oil etc. & do not like it. So points for being subtle smelling & not harsh. Honestly didn't even notice. I really like using these products and how my hair feels after using them. I ordered the whole set during the flash sale and when I received the products the shampoo, conditioning spray, and the conditioner weren't closed properly so most of the product was in the bottom of the box. I sent an email about the issue but I received another email for a link that doesn't work to open a ticket. No one has reached out to me and I have been sent the same link twice. My previous order the pumps on the bottles were broken. I just chalked that up to shipping but when the products are sent to you already opened, that's a whole other issue.Marcia W.

This is one of my top five shampoos for people who have a four c hair texture! The smell is amazing. It definitely gives off hints of pomegranate and honey which is the perfect snow combination. It provides a thick rich and full leather without having to use 17 pumps of shampoo. I Projects like that mielle products are parabens and sulfates paraffins and mineral oil all free. I will be the first to say that being that I have for sea hair this is not a detangling product. Moisturizing absolutely. Cleaning your hair it also removes all the impurities. I was a little disappointed when I received my black Friday package from Mielle. I have ordered before and have been pleased but this time it was like everything was thrown in a box and shipped. The box was so beat up its like the products could have came out and almost would have im certain had it been tossed around any more and I know that part wasn't so much their fault but I figured it would have been put into another box to ship to prevent that problem. The products had no confetti at least to soften how its thrown around everything was so greasy i thought for sure a product or 3 were leaking and also nothing was wrapped at least in bubble wrap considering how it was boxed up. We take my daughter to swim class two days out of the week and I started to notice that her hair was starting to get crispy ends and super dry. My review is on the Daily cleanse line but since I couldn't find it, I'm placing my review on this one since they are fairly similar in my opinion. I love the Fairy Tales line of haircare in general. In my household, at any one given time, I've got a handful of their products in rotation. This particular line doesn't get as much hype as their others but should. The Daily cleanse shampoo is amazing. It is gentle, yet effective even on the oilest heads. I have three children under the age of 10 that all have different hair types and use this shampoo. My daughter (toddler) has wavy curly hair in the back that would turn into what we called a “rats nest” I’d wash her hair at night and by the middle of the next day her hair would look died out and was very knotted. I grabbed the curly q shampoo and conditioner and fell in love! I can go two days without washing her hair now. Her curls look hydrated and are super soft! My husband used it not knowing what it was and his natural curls were the best I’ve ever seen them until he went and straightened his hair lol. I’ve used it in my other kids who have straight hair and their hair comes out super soft. It does have a strong scent to it, but it is a very pleasant one. Using the shampoo my hair felt like a cloud, now no I've never touch a cloud but I imagine it's quite soft and fluffy. Now don't get me wrong I'm a garnier girl at heart and no I'm not going to switch out my maoke syrup shampoo for this yet completely but its s definite kicker. Love how my hair felt after the very however I think an ingredient in it awoke my dandruff, disaster. This probably happened because I decided to dive into the line using nothing but pink lemonade my hair probably couldn't handle the drastic change. Who knows definitely not me all ik is I'm back on sulphur8 hoping to take this beast once again. For the conditioner I didn't find it to have much slip for detangling, I didn't have an issue as once my hair gets water it detangles but more slip needed. This is really fantastic shampoo. My hair has been really prone to getting tangled lately and since I've been using this shampoo it's been much easier to comb. It's also one of the few shampoos that entirely gets rid of my frizz. My hair stays very soft for days afterwards. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars is because it isn't available in a bigger bottle like most brands have. Most brands have a regular size bottle and a 'jumbo' size one. My hair is down to my hips so it doesn't take long for me go through a bottle (usually about two weeks or so). I would love to have a bigger size so I don't have to constantly go out and buy it.DLS

The Avlon Keracare Hydrating and Detangling shampoo does exactly what it says on the bottle, it is hydrates and detangles and is almost like a conditioner that leaves my hair soft and moisturised. There are two sizes, I bought the large size that is larger than I expected and I'm sure will last a long time as only a small amount is needed. It is definitely value for money. I’ve had this product for a few weeks and only used it twice. The smell is extremely strong. Not a bad smell, but it’s so strong that it makes my stomach upset. The product itself is very thin. I bought this a few weeks okay and my hair absolutely loved this product. The honey smell makes it so nice to use. I’ve also had success in the past with using it to get my hair “squeaky clean” just by doing a deep double wash versus one. I’ve yet to even encountered a conditioner that detangles my hair as well as this does! I hope this product never gets discontinued because I’m 100% loyal to this product!!Amber B

What I love about this product as soon as you put this sulfate free shampoo on your hair you can tell the difference compared to other sulfate free shampoo. I love that it lathers up and feels slick in my hair. It really detangles my hair and when you rinse your hair you can actually run your finger through your hair. This product also helps with frizz. So yes run out and get yourself a bottle you'll be glad you did. Trust me I have tried so many high priced shampoos that didn't live up to the hype. Price is decent. This is now my shampoo of choice. Ok so! I love this shampoo. This has been the only shampoo to clean my hair and bot dry it out. My natural gwols know how frustrating it can be to wash, moisturize and style your hair and then it be dry and toe up the next. I know how it feels to buy a hundred plus dollars of products to be disappointed or mixing them with new products so money isn't wasted. I washed my hair the first day I bought this and fell in love. My hair was soft. It didn't dry out after and the tea tree leave-in…girl use that too! I haven't tried the detailing conditioner yet because they were out of stock when I purchased. Probably because of that half off sale. I did find that this and Taliah's apple aloe deep conditioner work well together. My hair was shiny, easy to comb and style. I also used the Tgin moisturizer. I have a mix of 4b and 4c hair. My daughter's has 4b hair and it works perfect for her. Her wash and go's hold all day even after recess and a long day at school. My sister has used a nice amount of the leave in and moisturizer, now I have to buy more lol. I am going to try the honey mask and the anti-breakage serum. I will be leaving reviews also. Let me start off my by saying this product is AMAZINGGGGG ! I usually have a very hard time finding the right products for my hair especially when it comes to shampoo . My hair is usually VERY dry and soaks up moisture QUICK most shampoos tend to leave my hair even more dry and brittle feeling. this shampoo along with the conditioner has done wonders for my hair. I have moderately frizzy but mostly straight Caucasian hair and I've been using natural, sulfate/paraben free shampoos for a year or so now. I like TGIN because it makes my hair SUPER silky and soft. The conditioner detangles so well that I can easily wide tooth comb my hair straight out of the shower. However, my hair does feel very heavy and has NO volume whatsoever after using this. I also have to wash more frequently as my hair gets oily way faster, oily to the point it looks bad. To the touch and the eye, my hair looks fantastic with this product but I might look for something that doesn't require such frequent washing in the future.Jauhnam8

This is the best curly friendly conditioner I've found so far on this site. I need a lot of product but I feel like my 2C/3A hair is much more manageable with this than with other conditioners. The downside: this is the weirdest smelling product I've ever used on my head ever. First sniff is something resembling dill pickles. It then morphs into a kind of old man's cologne, like the musky kind that's overpowering. Only to settle on a very floral mix of the previous two scents. I have no other way to explain it. . . I have been on the hunt for a natural shampoo and conditioner that wouldn't weight down my curls and so far so good with this product. The only con I would give it is that the natural smell could be off-putting for some – myself I can deal with natural, herbal smells better than fake perfume scents. This shampoo lathers well for being sulfate free and I only need about a pump and a half for my hair, which is almost down to my chest. It rinses cleanly and I follow it with the conditioner and my hair is left really soft and my waves stand out even without putting gel or mouse in it – although I often do have to style it with some sort of product but that is just the way my hair is. I would recommend this to people with wavy to curly hair for sure. My hair is long and thick and frizzy and I feel like this has helped to tame some of the frizz. I have tried other brands like devacurl and this cleans better for me (and my hair is pretty greasy at the scalp) and is a better value. Bonus points for the pump!deskar

I wish they had this brand in NYC!! My sister introduced me to these products. I used these products for the first time this summer in the Dominican Republic. The shampoo has a strong smell of mint but it is great because it literally gets rid of all the build-up on my scalp. It is a bit drying but the conditioner adds moisture back on your hair. The conditioner has a thick consistency so a little bit goes a long way. Same as the curling puree. When I put it on I could see the white residue but as soon as my hair dried it was completely gone.eleny.d

I really love this product and this brand, it is a deep cleansing shampoo, which does not contain salts, silicones or parabens, free of sodium.It is for mixed to oily hair. This conditioner is EVERYTHING. I thought it would be heavy, for thicker curls, but it's actually very lightweight, it didn't weight down my thin hair at all, but it left my hair SO moisturized, with SO much shine, and this was the only new product I added to my routine. I've never seen a shampoo with an expiration date before. Reading the label on the box, there is a section called "Do's and don'ts:" which is interesting, because three out of five instructions don't tell you whether it is a DO or a DON'T. Use your own judgment, I guess. Opening the bottle was the first challenge. It appeared that there was a flip-top (a tiny one) but I just couldn't get it open with my fingernails so I finally used the tip of a spoon. Once opened, it now opens much easier. Save your nails and use a tool if you encounter resistance when you try this for the first time. I know I could have just unscrewed the top but I tend to use too much shampoo when I do that. I have long hair so while testing this shampoo I could not use my regular conditioner. That made the comb-out more difficult but I did not want to skew the review by adding another product. This shampoo has a neutral scent which was neither good nor bad, just acceptable. Time will tell if the claims of nourishing, strengthening, repairing and such are true but so far it is a nice enough shampoo that thoroughly cleaned my hair. I work outside in the hot sun often and this did remove the "sweaty hair" scent better than some cheaper shampoos did but I'll have to look for the matching conditioner for ease of comb-out.Karen

I gave this product five stars as it does exactly what it says it will, strip your hair clean of any product buildup. If you use product daily and build up is an issue for you you'll love this shampoo! The scent is fresh and clean smelling which is what you want, no added unnecessary colors or perfumes. After using this product my hair was squeaky clean and super receptive for a wonderful conditioning. Exactly what I wanted from this shampoo!! WOW shampoos are loaded with keratin and vitamins targeted at keeping your hair healthy. I've been using this product every other day and following up with WOW organic virgin coconut conditioner. WOW makes some awesome conditioners which I purchased and following up with that left my hair soft, shiny and vibrant. My hair was blow dryer damaged and split end repair is another great feature of WOW products.! The activated charcoal immediately eased my scalp itch which is another great reason to use this product. There are MANY great reasons to use this shampoo and there are options for all hair types. Not tested on animals, loaded with vitamins, sulfate and paraben free, available in kids formulas. Just an awesome product line. OK, so this is a different type of review! I've personally used this on my color treated hair with no bad effect, it's smoothed my hair making it feel softer and clean. Onto the different part… My 9 year old had "crazy hair day" at school, bring on the party city hair color (more like spray paint hair spray like goopy glue). Pink, purple, blue all supposed to wash out. No! nothing was getting this out. I decide to whip out the charcoal keratin shampoo and excitement! Pink suds formed! Followed up with the coconut lime conditioner and her hair is as it should be. As stated, my own hair is color treated and I have no issues in losing color but this absolutely lifted the gunk from hers!Amy M.

Okay I'm curious about this product and the claims it helps reduce shedding/fallout. I can say I had less shedding after using this shampoo. I will see how it does after a few washes. It wasn't very moisturizing for me though. The SNAG FREE pre shampoo had such great slip and had my hair feeling great. I was expecting a lot more from this shampoo. It wasn't bad but definitely not as moisturizing as I had hoped. My hair actually felt a little tangled while using it.TammisObsession

I’m a huge fan of pre-pooing since it makes washing my 3c/4a hair much easier and this pre-shampoo did not disappoint. I like that I could easily work it into larger sections so I didn’t have to spend too much time applying it. I sectioned my hair into 4 parts and then sectioned each of those into two (for a total of 8 sections) to work the product in. I went in with a quick finger detangle then followed up with my detangling brush. Let’s just say my curls were poppin! Made the shampooing and conditioning steps a breeze.a2b18

Okay when I first tried this I was like what ? This step has been a game changer in my curly routine. I never thought of detangling my hair before shampoo. Ever since I’ve been using this before, I definitely feel a huge difference when I use my shampoo. I feel like my hair gets a better cleanse after being detangle instead of shampooing on tangles hair. I have curly hair so sometimes the tangles are real. This stuff instantly makes my hair soooo soft and detangles sooo quick and easy. It’s honestly so genius and amazing for curls that easily get tangle or any type of hair texture. Where have I been all this time? I recently purchased this, tried it and I'm just blown away on how well this works! The product does exactly what it says! I don't need to follow up with a separate conditioner. It's super moisturizing, makes my 3c curls pop and feeling silky smooth! Great Conditioning Shampoo and recommend it if you have Curly or even dry hair.John

Using the shampoo my hair felt like a cloud, now no I've never touch a cloud but I imagine it's quite soft and fluffy. Now don't get me wrong I'm a garnier girl at heart and no I'm not going to switch out my maoke syrup shampoo for this yet completely but its s definite kicker. Love how my hair felt after the very however I think an ingredient in it awoke my dandruff, disaster. This probably happened because I decided to dive into the line using nothing but pink lemonade my hair probably couldn't handle the drastic change. Who knows definitely not me all ik is I'm back on sulphur8 hoping to take this beast once again. For the conditioner I didn't find it to have much slip for detangling, I didn't have an issue as once my hair gets water it detangles but more slip needed. For the 5 minute mask ofc I never leave it for 5 mins probably 30 tbh. It's not as good as the garnier 5 minute mask that's for sure but it does it's job.thea.q

This is really fantastic shampoo. My hair has been really prone to getting tangled lately and since I've been using this shampoo it's been much easier to comb. It's also one of the few shampoos that entirely gets rid of my frizz. My hair stays very soft for days afterwards. The only reasons I didn't give it five stars is because it isn't available in a bigger bottle like most brands have. Most brands have a regular size bottle and a 'jumbo' size one. My hair is down to my hips so it doesn't take long for me go through a bottle (usually about two weeks or so). I would love to have a bigger size so I don't have to constantly go out and buy it.DLS

OMG! Love love love this product! I have tried multiple leave in conditioners and never saw a difference until I used this!! It has a very beautiful black vanilla aroma that leaves my hair smelling and looking gorgeous! It is perfect on all hair types, I even told my friends to buy it and they all use it on a daily basis! If you need a go to leave in conditioner that will leave your hair silky, healthy, and shiny go buy this asap!sydney.p

For reference I have low porosity thin coarse curly hair. I had really high hopes for this product. After a few uses I realized that this product lead to extreme hair loss for me and product buildup. I couldn’t go a day without washing or having extremely greasy hair which is not normal for me. The whole line tangles hair. Very disappointed but it smells nice.fb
