Hanging the Shop Fox was a breeze, attaching the bag was difficult. I'm not impressed with the suction power and I can see less section as the bag fills. The paint had chips and I can see more paint will be coming off with time. Suction compared to my old shop vacuum is considerably less. I never had a dust collector of this kind before. Used shop vacs and dust stoppers. Needed this for my planer and cabinet saw and later for a new band saw. I have it mounted in the corner of my garage, added the one micron filter, a dust seperater (Rockler fittings on a small metal trash can) and about 15 feet of the 4 inch hose. It does pretty good on the table saw when I have to blade guard on. Still get alot of table top dust when I use a sled of any kind. Does great on the band saw when I cut thin stock. Probably gets about 90% of the chips on the Dewalt planer. I can honestly say I do not completely understand static pressure and all that stuff so I have no idea if my set up degrades the abilities of this machine. I got it on sale and compared to the full price of the 1250 cfm model with the bigger filter it was almost half the price. I’ve been using it for about a year and a half. I would be satisfied with keeping it but I am thinking about getting the 1250 cfm when it’s on sale. Not sure if twice the cfm means a twice better job, but I’d like to capture more dust than I am now.Richard
I had been looking for a dust collector for my home built cnc router for a while. I had previously been using a regular but higher end shop vac from one of the box hardware stores. I am really cramped for space so this unit really was appealing to me as you can hang it anywhere. I also really needed the canister filter as I cut some MDF and other materials that leave a super fine dust that will go through a 5 micron filter bag. I finally just got tired of shopping around and decided to just go to Rockler in Arlington, TX and buy it. First of all this dust collector with a 4" hose (that is not included) and canister filter is 1000% absolutely worth the price. It has Plenty of draw and leaves nothing behind after my machine does its thing. The problem is that not all of the material collected just drops into the bag. It packs the pleats of the filter and reduces suction ability. Yes it has a handle that you turn to dislodge particles that are in the filter canister but it only gets loose maybe 5% of whats really packed in there. On top of that these types of mechanisms hurt the filter more than they help as it rubs the same place over and over. After removing the canister twice to clean it (which is a total pain in the a$$) I decided to add to my dust collection system and put a duty deputy in front of the intake of the dust collection system. In my opinion this is THE ONLY way to run this system. The dust deputy catches 99.5% of everything before it even hits the filter. This includes a mixtire of hard and soft woods, mdf and plastics I have cut. I now have a setup that is effortless to service, never clogs, and never ceases to impress me with how well it collects. The attached photos show the setup, the canister and contents of the dust deputy and the contents of what has made it into the bag of the Rockler dust collector after lots and lots of cutting. Only a tiny amount has made it past the dust deputy as you can see.R
I am starting out in woodworking and I thought having a dust collection system in my garage would be a good thing to have. I didn’t want to spend a fortune so thought the Dust Right would be a good starting investment. First, this comes with nothing – no hose, no attachments, no clamps. It’d be nice if Rocker sold these as kits. Once you’re done choosing all the necessities, it adds to the price quite a bit, so I feel the starting price is misleading. Second, this system’s power is underwhelming. I hooked it up to a Dewalt planer and planed two 1×4 12’ boards. Part way through planing the second board, the wood chips started flying out of the machine. I checked the Dust Right and the hose was completely clogged and backed up. It seems to have a hard time pulling the debris from the floor level up to the collector. I had to lift the hose level and shake it to loosen up the debris. It took a good 20 minutes to finally clear the hose. I would have opted for the larger system in retrospect.Rick

Bought the JCDC-1.5 two months ago after much research for a small shop setup. Assembly was pretty straightforward with the included instructions. However, problems started immediately on first use when it tripped the breaker on startup. I'm in a new house with 20 amp circuits in the workshop area. Tried other circuits in the garage with the same result–tripping breaker on startup. Specs say it should be able to run fine on a dedicated 15 amp circuit. Called and paid an electrician to run a new dedicated 20-amp circuit in the garage just for the DC–same result. Called JET tech support, which sent a new electrical box. No instructions included in box, but I managed to install the new box. Same result! Called and paid another electrician to inspect wiring and confirm no issues with panel or wiring, which he did. He notice the DC was drawing 80 amps on startup, which is higher than the startup specs. Called JET tech support again, which sent a new motor. New motor arrived with no instructions for installation or impeller. Managed to remove the old motor but old impeller will not come off despite my best efforts. Now I'm 2 months in and haven't been able to use my brand new DC and the best that JET apparently can do for me is direct me to an authorized service center (expecting me to load this thing up and transport it, when it was delivered on a box truck and pallet) or put me on a waiting list for an onsite visit once the pandemic has passed. Im happy with this Jet dust collector. Its well suited for my home shop (800 sq ft, 8 dust collection hookups). Assembly was fairly simple, but could be improved. I was able to assemble it in 45 minutes with no help. Packing was excellent and it arrived undamaged. Air flow at each machine is substantially better than my old Grizzly 1023. Its also much quieter (75 dB) vs 90+ dB for the Grizzly. I can even run two machines at once with sufficient dust collection. Emptying the canister is a breeze.davecag

I purchased this dust collector in September to match an Oneida Dust Deputy I had received as a gift. I have wall mounted the dust collector to save space in my garage shop. The suction is fantastic through a 20’, 4” hose I added in allowing me to connect to all my tools and reach all areas of the shop for cleaning. The noise is half that of my wet dry vac so that is a huge improvement alone. The wall mounted option is a little odd and doesn’t allow for a real secure fit. I secured a 2’x2’ 3/4 piece of ply to the wall then mounted the supplied hardware to that. I then added additional lag screws to eliminate any possibility of movement. I have not had more than 1 tool hooked up at a time so I am not sure how the suction will decrease. I do not have any dust lined or black gates so I do not know how the suction would react to that either. This has been a great and inexpensive addition to my growing shop. I would recommend for the hobby shop.joe
I purchased this dust collector after narrowing down my choices to this or a dust separator device for my shop vac. Even at roughly double the cost of a good separator kit, so far the Rikon is definitely with it. I'd like more suction, so a separator wouldn't have cut it in my small shop. I like the mobility of this unit, the full size hose, and the large hood. I mentioned wanting more suction… There's enough to get the job done, but placement of the hood is critical to not missing dust flying out of the chute on my portable table saw. This was while cutting mdf boards, real woods don't produce as much dust, so it may be great for that. Besides my table saw, I've used this with a palm sander and it had no problem catching all of the dust from that tool on rough cut cedar. I had the hood about 6-10" from the sander, so I think placement is key with this smaller dust collector.Kyle L
I just unboxed and assembled this portable Rikon #60-105 dust collector. I put on a reducer to hook it up to my table saw. I put my hand over the reducer to feel the suction and then on the hose that comes from my Ridged vacuum #WD0970. It was easy to remove my hand from the hose connected to the Rikon and very hard to remove my hand from my Ridgid. The Ridged seems to have double the suction of this Rikon. I’m very disappointed In this vacuum. What a waste of time and money. I also came in a damaged box and the pickup handle was bent. Poor boxing and packing.TheSawDustWhisperer

I am using this on a Jet 1014, some of the interference problems I've experienced (see below) may be mitigated somewhat with a lathe that has more swing. I currently am using it with a shop vac. It does a good job, getting almost everything AFTER I get past rounding the blank. While rounding the blanks, it only gets about 60%. It does get, at least on the small diameter turnings I've done thus far, all of the sanding dust. Assembly was straightforward and simple. While the instructions weren't perfect, anybody not able to overcome the very slight shortcomings probably shouldn't be operating power equipment anyway. All the parts look to be well made, the paintjob on the metal bits and molding of the plastic bits was excellent. As the 3 stars indicates though, all is not puppies and kittens. There are two aspects to my criticisms. The first concerns the shortcomings of the product as engineered, shortcomings that apply when used as pictured. First, the vertical pole should have a lockwasher in between it and the horizontal bar. The vertical pole will turn some otherwise, and also can loosen up while turning due to vibrations coming from the lathe itself. Second, as noted by another reviewer, there's no means of securing the hose to the shroud. Third, the width of the "nut plate" used to attach the boom arm to the lathe is wider than it should be. These problems all apply, even when using the shroud while turning "long" (relative to the lathe's capacity) spindles, such as turning a pen mounted on a mandrel. The second set of flaws have to do with real design deficiencies. Specifically, it is problematic to use it for "turning between centers" with pens, or turning bottle stoppers, etc. Turning ANYTHING where the distance between the tailstock and the headstock is less than the shroud's length means you may or may not be able to use this. I get interference between the shroud and the tailstock locking handle, between the shroud and the quill locking lever, between the shroud and the tailstock, and sometimes even between the basebar and banjo. So, recommended improvements: Include a lock washer to keep the post from rotating. Make/include a shorter shroud. Redesign the system for attaching the shroud in order to allow flipping the shroud around to the other side. (If the shroud bar could be removed from the sleeve that goes over the post, and the two rearranged, that would likely do the trick.) Add some sort of detent or locking system between the hose and shroud. Narrow the baseplate nut so it's the same width as the mounting bar.John
Upon first installing this I was pretty pleased with what it collected while turning a handle for a pizza cutter, however if you want to turn anything larger than a 1.5 x 1.5 x 6 spindle, you can forget this even being semi-helpful. Pros: -Collects most chips from turning -Collects a LOT of sanding dust (best purpose, in my opinion) Cons: -Only good for handle-sized spindles and smaller projects (even a 2×2 spindle is too large and hits the inside). -Despite decent chip collection, it still leaves behind a good bit of shavings behind. I found myself spending the same amount of time cleaning up my lathe afterwards. -Clunky and cumbersome to move. It's somewhat top-heavy so you may find yourself fighting with it while trying to make adjustments. -Crowds the work area. If you need to do ANYTHING to the piece other than turning, you'll need to loosen, move, and tighten a few knobs to give you enough space, and even then it still felt "in my way" more often than not. -You will need to buy a hose fitting. I'm using the Rockler vacuum hose handle (that's designed to fit 2.5" dust ports) and it is slightly too small for the flex hose that this uses. Overall, it's an okay product that I'm sure is perfect for some people, but personally I wasn't impressed enough to want to keep it, even at the $40 sale price. It's cleaned up, back in the box and about to go back to the store.David
I've got this mounted on a Jet 1236, and will also put it on a Jet 1016 mini-lathe. It collects some of the shavings when I make spindles (I'm working on captive ring baby rattles at the moment) but it excels at collecting sanding dust. It's connected to a 4" dust collector through an adaptor that fits, with difficulty, into the 2" hose that comes with the unit. One BIG benefit is that the vertical metal support rod is quite a bit longer than it needs to be, and can be used to attach other jigs such as one that allows me to sand the inside of the captive rings (I note that I can [and will] now get a chip deflector that attaches to the rod). Downsides: The rod attaches to the horizontal bar with a single flat head screw, and if you rotate the rod for any reason, that comes loose. The fitting that attaches underneath the lathe bed doesn't closely fit the 1236 (it may with the 1016), and that makes it a bit finicky to adjust. The hood itself is kind of small and a lot of chips miss the fitting. But I have a larger hood that I use to collect chips when I'm turning. I may see if I can rig it up to the support for this. None of these problems are even close to being deal breakers. I bought this primarily to collect dust while sanding small projects (like pens and the baby rattles) and for that, I don't think anything else short of a far more powerful vacuum would work better. Easy to assemble and solid unit, I will be adding some cross braces around the bag to sturdy up the cannister though. The only thing that threw me off was I expected more powerful suction than my shop vac, but it pulls a huge volume. A+ to Jet for the vortex cone, it works great and keeps the canister filter clear of most debris, you can see the sawdust and debris swirling in the bottom of the collection bag. Purchased my first PM1300 dust collector last September and I was so impressed that I purchased another this spring during the Powermatic 15% discount promotion. I had previously owned comparable dust collector models from Penn State and Jet but this unit easily out performs both with ease. Fit and finish are outstanding and it assembles quite easily with a helper. My first unit thoroughly collected dust from my SawStop cabinet saw and Hammer A31 jointer/ planer and the new unit is equally performing on my Supermax drum sander and Jet oscillating spindle sander. The remote control and low decibel noise level make it a pleasure to use. I purchased this dust collector for a special application where space was at a premium, yet performance was a necessity. This dust collector tucked away in a very tight space, I used 4" pvc pipe rather than flexible hose and it works flawlessly for the application. I am using this to extract dust made on a bench grinder while we are grinding soft sharpening stones, the dust is very fine and normally would be everywhere but with this setup and this machine it is all captured in the bag.wfri3231
Very good unit. Works well. Well built. Too bad the packing for shipping is HORRIBLE. Pieces of broken Styrofoam everywhere. Had to do a major cleanup of the unit with a shop vac. Also several dents in the unit from lousy packaging. Was not worth the hassle of returning BUT very disappointing to have a brand new tool with dents and scratches. I've only owned this for two days. I also own a new Jet Drill Press. I am definitely impressed with the quality and further impressed with Jet. I will review it again after I use it for a while, but the assembly was a piece of cake. The directions are perfect… not even any spelling mistakes. It only came with lock washers in significant areas. I am hoping this isn't an issue as I would expect a motor like this to have some vibration. Some of the tapped holes were tight but that's expected when painting over. My electric drill handled this easily. And you want it painted over to avoid any corrosion. As a former machinist, it had the correct types of bolts and nuts in the right places. Assembly time was about an hour. If I had done it before, it would be 30 minutes. hmm. maybe I will get a Jet Table saw.Peoria
I purchased the Jet 1.5 HP Dust Collector with Canister Filter just today. My first impressions were not good. First, after picking up the unit at a local retailer I brought it home and began unpacking and assembling. Soon I found the motor assembly was dented meaning a trip back to the retailer to pick up a replacement (fortunately they had another n stock). After resuming assembly I found many of the predrilled and tapped screws would not fit correctly. I managed to secure all screws but for a unit of this price, and expected quality, it was far more complicated and frustrating hen necessary. After several hours of assembly I powered up. Tomorrow will test the suction capabilities. Hoping for the best.Steve
Dust collection, where to begin… I can't here, so what I will say is for what this is supposed to do it does very well. It is a dust collector and not a vacuum, there is a difference, I have both in my shop. The dust collector moves large volumes of air at low differential pressure, the vacuum moves less air at a much higher differential pressure. If you try to use this on handheld tools you will be disappointed, but you can use it on two large machines like a table saw and CNC at the same time, no problem. Also, watch the bag, be sure the sawdust is spinning quickly inside, if not, the vortex can’t work and the dust won’t drop out, it will go up and into the filter. If need be, open another port to bleed in some air to speed it up.Chuck

I love this DC! I had a fairly expensive Laguna DC for some time. I bought it thinking that I could run 4-inch PVC and solve all of my dust collection needs from a DC located in an out-of-the-way spot in my shop. The problem with my thinking was that, despite the static vacuum produced by the BIG Laguna, Long runs of pipe (we're only talking the area of a two-car garage) reduced the flow so much that the DC capability did not even measure up to my Festool CT Vacuum. I have recently upgraded my shop to a Hammer C3 31 combination machine (I simply love this thing), so my dust collection is concentrated to one of three ports on that same machine, or the port on my bandsaw. So, the current DC strategy is to move the Festool CT-48 tube to the port being used, and the CT SYS portable vacuum supplements the CT48 by collecting overhead dust from the 12" table saw function of the the C3 31. This combination is more effective than the monster Laguna DC – Hose lengths are on the order of 5 feet for the CT48, and 5 feet for the CT SYS. In addition this combination provides me with a powerful ultra-portable vacuum for DC outside of my shop, AND, IT COSTS LESS THAN THE BIG LAGUNA.Wilbur
