Best Dyson For Tile Floors (2025 Update)

I’ve never in my life owned a Dyson but I finally decided to splurge and I’m glad I did! Here are my first impressions after getting up at the crack of dawn excited to test it out haha! It’s much quieter than I thought which is appreciated for those early morning cleanups after my toddler makes a mess but my older daughter is still sleeping. That laser is amazing but terrible at the same time…holy lord the stuff it was bringing to my attention was wild. I love the attachments and the one that lets you make it a 90 angle to go right under couches and furniture…chefs kiss. The floor dok is also a really nice feature as I don’t really have somewhere to mount it to the wall. It’s definitely heavier than I anticipated it to be. I do find I’m switching arms a lot so for someone who may be older or limited mobility it may be a bit cumbersome. I don’t hate that you have to press the button constantly to keep it on as it’s easier when you need to stop and go, but I do find it a bit awkward and my hand is a touch sore. I had it fully charged and used it for just over an hour and it’s now dead; I accomplished two floors, two sets of stairs and a couch set in that time. I only have hard floors besides two area rugs which are ruggables, and with the laser brush it has to be on eco otherwise it pulls them up. The other head it comes with does not work at all over ruggables. I don’t have any other ‘carpet’ so I cannot speak to its abilities with that. There are so many attachments this model comes with but there’s no where to store them – I would like to see some extra attachments for the floor dok to store them all. All in all though, highly satisfied with my purchase. I feel as though this is a prime example of “pay for what you get”. It’s a hefty price tag but I suspect this will last me years!Lindz02

This vacuum has the best suction and with 2 golden retrievers I need it but here are the cons It’s heavy and you have to hold in the switch to keep it running guessing this is to preserve the battery. All of the weight of the vacuum as at your wrist and hand and while 4.5 lbs doesn’t seem like much as you are holding it and the on button it is very stressful to your arm wrist and hand. When moving from hardwood to shag (I have all hardwood and two 8×10 shag type area rugs) the beater bar stops and the machine quits working even when you stop and move it to the highest setting so it won’t vacuum my area rugsI can’t even hardly push it through the carpet. I can let it and set it down and pull it. . It will do low pile rugs. Then it won’t stand up on its own you have to lean it on something or never stop vacuuming. I can get through most of my house 1400 square foot with the light before it dies or moves to eco. The head does not easily release to use just the end to get into tight spaces or replace with another attachment. The cord for the battery is actually quite short if you’re hoping to plug it in a closet or hide away place. Sleek as it may seem I don’t want a vacuum hanging up as decor so I’m going to have to add a plug somewhere out of sight. The pros are the light and suction provided you can really get every hair and see all dust if your room is not to bright the light really shows everything I turn down the lights to vacuum crazy I will definitely not buy another and totally regret this purchase for the price it really should come with two batteries and be able to vacuum carpet. I've been using this product for a little over a month. My first initial reaction was that this product is just okay. A few weeks later my feelings haven't changed. First thing I noticed was that the battery life isn't great. On regular mode I can get the entire house (minus one carpeted room that's about 120 sqft or so) vacuumed and still have a some battery life left. Our house is about 1500 sqft. What I really dislike is that on the max suction mode the battery lasts about seven to 10 minutes on a full charge. I understand that it is high battery usage but on heavy cleaning and dusting days this is frustrating. After a regular vacuuming session I have to wait another five hours for this thing to fully charge just to use it another few minutes in order to get dusting done which is extremely inconvenient. If Dyson would have made it with the option to work while on the charger / still plugged in it would have made ALL of the difference. I haven't used it on the one room in our house that is carpeted and I honestly don't know if that is even possible with any of the connections. It didn't come with a user manual like all other products electronic products that I have purchased. It did have a sheet that gave you a link to an online user manual but I am more of a paper in my face type of person. I have having to click through links to find what I need. It does come with quite a few connectible pieces. I don't really know what the difference between a few of them are or what they're even called but I haven't had any issues using them so no complaints with those. The item itself is extremely convenient and easy to use. I REALLY wish that it came with maybe a retractable chord to plug in when the batter life isnt sufficient. I think for the price it's not worth it. Overall; three out of five stars, mainly because of the battery life and lack of a proper user's manual.ItsMe

I have been a Dyson owner since early 2005 (I still have that one and it still works). I was using the Dyson V7 Animal until my wife purchased this upgraded one for me. Right away, I could feel and see the difference! With 2 children, a large dog (that never stops shedding), and my wife and I, keeping our house clean is nearly impossible. The Dyson V8 Animal Pro has been amazing and extremely helpful! I only have 3 general complaints about it, which stop me from giving it a 5 Star Review. First, the container becomes full very quickly and having to empty it so often is a little annoying (I know the newer models have addressed that). Second, the stick portion is a little short for taller people like me and I don’t think that adding a second stick would function well not be practical; this causes me to have to lean over while vacuuming, which means my back starts aching. Third, a lack of accessories! There are more attachment tools for my V7 than my newer V8. More directly, there doesn’t seem to be a hard floor attachment option. I have checked their website, but there are no hard floor tools offered for this vacuum (Dyson V8 Animal Pro). I would be particularly interested in the tool that worked on both the carpet and hard floors. Other than that, I really do love this little vacuum.DaBear

This is the second Dyson I have owned. The previous one I purchased at a retailer that offered an extended warranty for purchase. The vacuum stopped working shortly after the Dyson two year warranty. The extended warranty company was great. We sent the vacuum to them and they determined they could not repair it and refunded the entire amount that we paid for the vacuum. The second one we purchased at Costco and they did not offer the extended warranty, but talked us into purchasing because they would take back if we had any problems. Well once again right after the two year Dyson warranty has expired, the vacuum is not working correctly again. Pretty sure Costco won't take back after two years, although I will also complain to them. They are a great vacuum, just a lot of expense for something that lasts only two years. I hope some of the other companies venturing into cordless stick vacuums become successful because I don't want to keep buying a vacuum that does not last.K Wood

I LOVE DYSON. It’s been a love affair for @15 or so years. I had the V-6 and made an excuse that college child needed so I could get the V-11animal. No one in my house were allowed to use. It WAS my baby – empty nester at the time. I bought it shortly after it first came out so it has the screwed in battery. I needed a cordless vacuum that was able to pick up Belgian Malinois Shepard fur from H _ _ _, easy to use, lighter than a full vacuum BUT WORK AS WELL OR BETTER than a full-size – I have chronic back pain and fibromyalgia and numbness… Yes in my crazy perfect vacuum dream world this existed and it DID! Thanks Dyson! It checked EVERY box of my needs, well except price. It was the most I have ever spent on something for me but dang it I deserved it and NEEDED it. It has been absolutely incredible! I would have told you 2 years ago do whatever you need to and buy bc it has incredible suction, awesome holders for tools with wall mount and on pole, adjustable suction on torque floor tool, adjust able power – Eco for low dirt area, Auto and Boost for deeper and stronger suction. So those are PROS. CONS are you need to press trigger to power it so with my neuropathy in hands at times I cannot vac, need to remove any attachments to empty dirt bin, after @8-12 months the bin empty slide started to stick, and then at 2 years (WARRANTY EXPIRED) and @5 months it started to shut off and then turn on. Called customer support and and they did a video troubleshoot and said it’s the battery. Well no battery in stock. Actually ABSOLUTELY ZERO SPARE PARTS for my baby have been in stock for over a month now! A week or so later it stopped more and then shut down. Called again and told it was the cyclone part (a guy on YouTube had same exact issue but his warranty was still active) BUT NO PART available. He told me to call or go to my nearest Dyson service center. Well the nearest in @1.25hrs. away. I do not have a car – getting divorced so I took my Dyson V11 animal and he got our 25 y/o car worth about the same. He fought for my V11 which was honestly a no win – I don’t know what he was thinking. Lol Plus the service center when I finally reached a person said that maybe it’s the trigger and I could mail it in. I still haven’t decided bc why pay to ship something that there’s no parts for? I am very disappointed and very upset bc it was a great machine.Freeme68

I rarely ever leave reviews but this thing is great! This is my first Dyson purchase and I have a German Shepard mix who sheds constantly, this V11 handles his hair with ease. I love the flexibility to use it anywhere with the attachments that are included, my personal favorite is the mini motorized tool. The simple design makes it easy to clean and maintenance. This thing picks up dirt that you don’t even see, especially in carpets and area rugs. I am also one who cares about packaging and this thing is packaged perfectly. The only downside, like all electronics is the battery life. 5 to 6 minutes on boost mode is not enough for a vacuum of this cost. I would like to see Dyson sell an additional king power cord that can be used to power the vacuum directly more like a traditional vacuum if needed for those of us with bigger houses with lots of carpeted areas.Jxustin

After reading these reviews I can't help but think that these machines are designed to last for roughly 2.5 years. My machine did the exact same thing that others have written about. I purchased this machine back in January 2020, about a month ago it started cutting off during use. The cutting off started getting more frequently to the point where the machine stays on for about 2 seconds before cutting off which makes it inoperable. So I call the service center to be told that my machine is out of warranty as of January 2022 and a replacement motor will cost $116. It is really unfortunate that a $700 machine is designed to last 2.5 years before you have to put more money into it. The sad part about it is that most people will pay the $116 because you can not get a new decent vac for that price and secondly, you have already invested $700 in this machine. It is very disheartening, and I wish I would have went with a different brand.Trise

I have an older, corded Dyson which is still a workhorse. But since it is quite heavy and I am older, I can no longer easily carry it up and down stairs. So this corded one now stays upstairs which is carpeted, and the V12 Detect Slim is perfect for downstairs which is all tile/hardwood. I have 2 very fluffy cats which shed a lot – constantly – and will sometimes scatter litter when covering their waste. I tried another stick vacuum which was great for about a year, but then started dropping the litter back down and out onto the floor again so this was frustrating and useless. Back to Dyson and so far so very good. The one small feature that helped me finally make the choice of the V12 Detect Slim is the "on/off" button over the trigger in the other models. I have a bit of arthritis in my hands and the trigger would probably not be comfortable for me. I also love the laser attachment to find all the litter scatter pieces that are not easily seen but certainly are felt by bare feet. I've only had this vacuum for a short while and have not tried all of the attachments yet but am hopeful that my furniture will be cleaner of cat hair just as my floors seem to be. Yes, the dust bin is small, but it's so easy to detach and empty I don't find that to be an issue for me. As long as the V12 Detect slim keeps holding the litter in this bin, I will keep singing its praises. I also bought the standing Dok and love this. Would just like a holder of some sort to attach to the stand for holding more of the attachments. So, considering how well my older, corded vacuum has performed and continues to perform, I'm hopeful for similar performance from the V12 Detect Slim.SueD12

I was very excited to get the Dyson V12 Detect Slim Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, especially since I have had such great experiences with other Dyson products. Packaging and assembly with a breeze pretty self explanatory. I was impressed from the start with how lite it was, which made is very convenient for the stairs in our house. It was easy enough for the kids to carry around and use too, which is always a plus! I found it fairly easy to use for over head tasks too. I liked that it only has a single button power control. The LCD screen is probably my favorite feature. It shows you what has been lifted on the different surfaces, it is clear and easy to understand. In fact at one point it wasn’t functioning properly and the LCD screen told me what the problem was right away and I was able to fix it right away. I love that I didn’t have to trouble shoot it and take the whole thing apart to figure out the problem. It came with some neat attachments, the fluffy yellow and purple roller that is perfect for our wooden and tile floors, it had no problem fitting under our dining table and coffee table, this saved me time from having to move the furniture around. It comes with a wall dock that provides a way to easily store all the components while charging it as well. It included a neat hair screw tool, the allows you to pick up pet hair making pet spaces easy and fast to keep clean. They have a new design on the motorbar which helps to detangle long hair, eliminating the need for me to take it apart to cut out tangled hair like I have had to with other vacuums. You can select from the three cleaning modes depending on what job you are tackling. The waste bin is super easy to empty, simply point it in the trash can and push the lever to release the dirt. It is quick and straight to the point and I didn’t have to tough anything so my hands never got dirty. I love that it gives you 60 minutes of charge unlike previous machines that gave my around 20 minutes, also I found that the battery did a great job of holding the charge even when it was not in use or plugged in. The only “con” I would say I found was that if you doing a bigger job like cleaning more that a few rooms at a time, you have to stop and empty out the bin more often perhaps because it is a smaller unit but if you don’t mind that it really isn’t an issue. I have 3 (now 4) Dyson vacuums, I have the Airwrap and it is so awesome I wanted to try their other products. I purchased my first used D6 from eBay, I wanted to try one to see if it worked as well as it was claimed. I liked it but wanted a newer so I gave that one to my son and saved up and went with the V10 model (which I still have and still love), I then purchased the canister (refurbished) for deep cleaning items like furniture because the V10 would only go about 30 minutes and that was frustrating to me. I wanted something with a swappable battery but did not want to spend another $600 so when the small one (Omni Glide) came out I got it from Best Buy and found some extra attachments on ebay for it (mini motorized tool) and that one was excellent for day to day and my car, the battery lasts forever and is swappable, but I never needed a second for that one. My daughter borrowed it (she cleans houses) and she loved it so I let her keep it and found this one, which is in the middle of the 2 I have. I think the laser might send my OCD into overdrive because it showed everything on the floor when it looks clean without it. It is crazy how much dust it shows. I am glad I can turn it off if I choose, but I have not done that. IMO this is the best of the 5 I have tried. The battery seems to last, but it is swappable so when they are available I will be buying an extra. But so far I am using eco mode mostly and the battery lasts longer than I expected. The suction even on eco is better than my D10, my D10 does not suck up the throw rugs, but this one does. I wish I could adjust the suction to lower for this reason but all around this is a great cordless. I like the power switch because it makes it easier when using some of the attachments, not having to hold the trigger, but I am torn as I also like the trigger switch and miss it a little.M00nbeam

I’ve had this unit for 9 months now and unlike many other reviews, I have had absolutely no problems. I have a 3 level, townhome with hard wood floors and stairs and this vacuum handles it all. The pivoting head gets into all the hard places. I can do 2 entire floors and 2 flights of stairs on a single charge. I’ve had no issues with the vacuum holding it’s charge. Others have claimed that hair is an issue for this vacuum, but I have long hair that seems to shed everywhere and have had no issues. My only criticism is that the dust/debris container is a little small and can open rather quickly when going to empty the container possibly getting some dust not into the trash if you’re not careful. Otherwise, I am very happy with this vacuum. For those complaining it doesn’t vacuum their throw rugs, it isn’t designed to do that and clearly states it, so complaints about that scattered in the negative reviews are due to human/operator error, not the device.UTJenn

This new Dyson Omni-glide is a new stick vacuum which I’m delighted to review. The power button on/off switch is on the stick itself. I like this feature as you do not have to hold the power trigger while in use as in other models. It is extremely light and comfortable to use. It can also manoeuvre under furniture for easy cleaning i.e. flat to the ground. It glides around the house effortlessly thanks to its new omni-glide dual swivel head making it easy to clean around and under tables, chairs and stools with very little effort. There are two power modes, normal and max, the buttons are positioned on the stick handle for ease of use. It took 2.5 hours approx to charge, each charge lasting 20-25 minutes on normal mode and 4-6 minutes on max power. It is great for solid floors/wood/tiles etc but will not work on carpets or heavy rugs but I already knew this from the product description. The product will stop automatically when it comes into contact with carpet and I had to turn off/on to get it to work again. Overall the suction power is excellent and was very pleased with the results. The omni-glide dustbin is smaller than other machines in the Dyson range but is sufficient for daily cleaning. To empty the dustbin is effortless with a one touch slide button. This is an ideal light and easy manoeuvrable powerful vacuum for a household with solid floors and would highly recommend. This hard floor hoover is okay for small jobs like your bedrooms or bathrooms. I use this for my upstairs cleaning as the batty and bin is very small. The suction is very low too and is literally just a quick task hoover. It’s really good at picking up dirt and doing under the beds so I’d say it’s ideal for a bedroom. Hoover. However it can’t tackle large jobs. The price is very very high for what it is… you can buy a cheaper hoover with stronger suction and a fluffy head attachment for hard floors. The bin is absolutely tiny!!! I would recommend this hoover to people who are okay with spending the money for a bedroom / upstairs hoover. Or for people who own small apartments or studio flats / bedsit’s – then it makes a good hoover. I don’t recommend for anyone looking todo deep cleaning in a full home… I give it three star rating because the bin is tiny, it’s got a maximum 20 minute battery & about 5 minutes on max power. The rollers are very weak and will stop turning if it sucks up large bits. So it’s only for small partials / dust vacuuming… as the suction Is not that grate & I think it could be improved. My conclusion is: This hoover is just one to be used under tables & beds really or only small floor area’s. As a second hoover for small jobs.Kaidan

If you’ve never used a battery powered stick vacuum, you’re working too hard. The Dyson V7 Advanced Origin vacuum Is one of the lightest vacuums I have used. Easy to maneuver around furniture and items with a flick of the wrist and with its thin beater bar, it fits under furniture with ease. The battery provides about 30 minutes of vacuuming. At first, I thought this may not be enough considering how much time I used to spend vacuuming. But it turns out once you eliminate the time spent plugging and unplugging the vacuum, minding the cord so it doesn’t get stuck or knock something over, or moving things to vacuum around or under them, I found I could vacuum the house much faster than I ever could before with much less effort. Not that I have much battery left, it’s just about all used up. I do feel a bit of “Range Anxiety” having just one fixed battery and do rush more. A replaceable battery pack as used on cordless drills and other tools would be a welcome addition. This Dyson comes with a combination tool, the wand/pipe, and a de-tangling motor bar cleaner head. with hair removal vanes that clear long hair and pet hair from the brush bar. The motor bar cleaner head seems to work, no hair or strings got wrapped around the beater brush. Be aware that this model comes with just what is listed in the product description, the combination tool attachment. There is no crevice or other attachments which used to be standard. Nor is there a wall mounted charging dock. If you know you will need the attachments, you should look at other Dyson models that include them or purchase them separately. Not a problem for me replacing a well-used Dyson vacuum that came with the attachments which are all still in excellent condition. Not including the attachments keeps the older ones that are in good shape from going into the landfill and should help keep the price down. This seems to align with the packaging which was all fully recyclable cardboard. No foam, plastic or other environmentally bad packing material was used. Replace the wand with the combination tool and you have a very powerful hand-held vacuum to clean furniture, drapes, the car, or whatever you need one for. The normal/low power setting seems perfectly adequate for hard wood floors and low pile carpet. The High-power mode adds a very noticeable increase in vacuum power and noise. Nice to have when you need it, but I found I rarely did. The Dyson is a well-made vacuum. Very nimble and powerful. Everything fits and functions exceptionally well, which is what I have come to expect of the brand.MrBill250

Up to now we have been very happy with our v10 – great performance and useability. But after 18 months two niggly problems have surfaced as a result of the failure of small plastic pieces that are not sold as replacement parts – you have to replace the whole assembly. 1. The red plastic button that attaches the wand to the body has broken and falls off. 2. The red plastic clip that is supposed to stop the bin sliding off the body has worn away, so that the bin comes off every time you just want to empty it. Both are small plastic pieces that are clearly separate to the main components and should be replaceable – but they are not. I was quoted £121 to replace the wand and the body – that is both extortionate pricing and a total waste of the other parts that are duplicated when you buy the spares. Dyson should do better to support customers and the environment. I will also say that we have a still working V6 (nothing gone wrong) and an old DC04 which has had many parts replaced over its' long life, but it still runs fine and was cheap/easy to fix. I guess that says that they are not built like they used to be. Oh and one more thing – the flexible hose for the V10 also fell apart after a year!Disappointed

I have always been huge Dyson fan as I find their products work well and stand the test of time. This cordless vac reminds me of the one I originally purchased nearly 10 years ago. It is nimble and very well balanced. On a fully charged battery, I have been able to spot clean multiple rooms, multiple times (hard floors with a few small rugs). I have used other cordless vacuums and find them to be unevenly weighted compared to the Dyson. The body of this is somewhat heavy for its sized, but the grip, and overall design are very ergonomic and I feel it conforms to the movement of my hand and wrist seamlessly. This makes the weight less of a concern, which is a factor for me as it determines whether I can effectively use a product or not. I personally wish that the on/off was a switch rather than a sqeeze trigger and that the option for max power was a push button thumb trigger rather than sliding switch on top of the body. Also of note, this model does not include any kind of wall mount kit for storage/charging, where my previous model did. I do find the model to be a bit noisy especially on MAX mode, but it is not intolerable. The beater bar does great job picking up hair without tangling.ArmadaJim

After Many years of using Dyson Cylinder vacuum cleaners and our current one being a Animal model which we love, I was curious what the Dyson v6 Absolute could offer us as a busy family. I had some reservations after using other brands of Cordless vacuum cleaners that just didn't live up to what they said on the box and always ended up shoved to the back of the cupboard never to be seen again. As soon as the Dyson v6 arrived and we opened it we knew we was going to have fun putting it to the test, and after unpacking the v6 and all of the tool attachments and reading the easy to follow instructions it , we found their was some power already in the battery to give it a quick test, and test it we did as our 10 year old daughter spilled her small tub of sequins she was using in her art project all over the laminate flooring in the dining room, now normally I would grab the dustpan and brush for a fiddly sweep up, but we grabbed the v6 ,easily attached the hard floor tool changed the setting to normal power mode and with ease and quickly the tiny sequins was vacuumed up, and no tears of our 10 year old daughter running away from the noise of a vacuum, she wears two hearing aids and the noise from a vacuum cleaner normally causes her distress and having to leave the room or take her hearing aids out, the V6 absolute had a noise level she could happily cope with, she even had a go at vacuuming for the first time ever, and went onto to vacuum the whole of the dining room, the hard floor tool worked better then the one on my vacuum cleaner, we wasn't chasing large bits around to catch them in the floor tool, they vacuumed up with ease. It was time to put the v6 on a full charge using the Docking station that needs to be attached to a wall, you don't get a fixing kit with it, but that wasn't a problem for us, and you can still charge the v6 up with the docking station until you have time to secure the docking station to the wall that's close to a plug socket, I like the docking station, its slim line and it also doubles as storage for the v6 absolute along with some of the tools, so everything can be kept secure of the floor. For a full charge from new it took approx. 3 hours to fully charge, the light is bright enough to see from a distance, so you know once its fully charged. once fully charged we got approx. 20 minutes vacuuming time with the v6 on the normal power setting which we found was more then enough time for us . we found the v6 so light to carry and use which really helped us as I have a joint condition like my son, and we struggle with our wrists and thumbs when vacuuming stairs etc. after vacuuming our stairs carpet I had no pain, the cordless v6 was easy to hold and put no strain on my wrist at all, even though you have to hold the power button in when using it, this wasn't a problem as where the button is your thumb or finger naturally sits on top of the button and is easy to hold in, no effort I found at all. We use the small power head on the stairs carpet and was pleasantly surprised as to how much ground in fine dirt it fetched up out of the carpet, the suction was very powerful for a cordless and it fetched the pile up on the stairs carpet nicely, made vacuuming the stairs very easy, I no longer had to worry about a cable trailing or balancing a cylinder cleaner on each step, so made vacuuming the stairs so much more quicker, in the time it normally takes me to vacuum the stairs with my normal vacuum cleaner, with the v6 I had the stairs, landing and two bedrooms vacuumed with ease and only having to empty the clear bin once. emptying the compact bin on the v6 I found fiddly at first go, but after a little practise it was then easy to empty. The next day after a trip to the park and the car needed a vacuum after fetching most of the parks freshly cut grass and sand back with us ,we thought the v6 absolute may struggle with this task, how wrong we was, no longer do we have to struggle with extension cables trailing over the driveway. just grabbed the v6 and the crevice tool and brush tool and small power head and started to vacuum the car, we have the annoying fluffy easy to pluck carpet in our car that seems to attract tiny hairs of the dog etc., the v6 cleaned up with no problems, the seats came up nice and clean and the carpets looked good and clean, the crevice tool came in handy for the hard to reach areas and the little brush tool was ideal for vacuuming the air vents and door caddy's etc. the v6 passed its test with flying colours. My 13 year old son as even taken to vacuuming his bedroom and helping vacuum the house with this' neat piece of technology' ,his words, he also finds it light and easy to use,. my 19 year old is a site joiner so often comes home and leaves a trail of sawdust through the house, he finds it so convenient to just grab the v6 to quickly tidy up his mess before mum moans. Having been using a Hetty vac for years & finding myself cursing it a lot! I decided to take the plunge & invest in the Dyson v6… I find it's nicely made, the fittings lock in so don't flop off all the time. sucks really well, I've not found the need for the extra suck button! one thing people don't tend to mention in reviews is that it sounds good! A kind of undulating warble while cleaning with the full length arm… and a nice sounding motor on start up & when letting go of the trigger well I appreciate it anyway! I now look forward to using it lots! I can't see the novelty wearing off as I'm just like that. Interestingly I found i used it differently to an old fashioned cylinder vac – meaning, I only switch it on while in position for cleaning… as it's in a trigger, you save energy while 're positioning yourself as opposed to having it running the whole time. emptying is easy as the lid kind of drops out forcefully & most of the dust just falls out. I find it satisfying to see what's been collected – what night look like a clean floor, you'll be amazed how much it still sucks up! I'm looking at getting extra fittings though as I prefer the Hetty style round brush as I do a lot of dusting with it over music gear & nick nacks. I really wish it would indicate how much battery is left, though it's ok simply paying attention to the time and getting to know how long the battery lasts. weirdly because the way it's designed I find cleaning is way quicker with this machine, which is really good… it only takes me under ten minutes to whiz around downstairs in my house… on stairs it's a dream, in fact it's a dream everywhere in the house… my biggest gripe would be how long the battery lasts! I mean, it's easy to work around it lasting 20 mins or so…. but having used cordless power tools at work, I'm wondering why they don't use a bigger capacity battery like the 5ah batteries on the newer Makita tools??? But at least with a smaller battery it is lighter to use. Man! I love this thing! I live in a shared house, I'm the only one who ever cleans anything, because this vac is so nice to use I find I'm not as resentful doing it, if you consider how frustrating my situation can be… simply no regrets since buying it & I'm recommending it to all my friends & family…orminfactory

Whilst I am not in the habit of reviewing products I feel so strongly about this product that I thought it would be worthwhile setting virtual pen to paper in this instance. This product is well worth buying, and while it has a couple of shortcomings, overall I'm very happy with it. It functions brilliantly as a handheld for spot clean-ups and for cleaning the stairs with the powered carpet cleaning head it is the best I have used. Normal use standing upright utilising the included aluminium tube extension is also excellent with any of the supplied attachments, and it is comfortable to use for cleaning away cobwebs at ceiling level, and dust around the picture rails in our home which has 8ft ceilings. I have personally used this for 15mins every other day for a few weeks now and the novelty has not worn off, my wife is delighted with that, and even uses it herself every now and then. The novelty is that it's even better than our previous dyson cleaners. I put this down in part to the powered head attachments which really lift the dirt, and the pet hair well, and also the power of the motor. Another novelty is being able to vacuum without the need for ear defenders, and not scaring the two cats that live with us with the usual noise of standard cleaners. The cats will just sit nearby and watch now rather than run and hide as before. Now to the few minor points alluded to before. The first critisism is that I would have liked attachment points on the base station for all five of the supplied attachments in the 'Absolute' package. I concede this may have been untidy looking, in practice however I plan to house mine in a cupboard. The second point I would like to highlight is that there is a small amount of play in the union of the tube to the body of the cleaner. When in use the flexation of front part of the cleaner is likely to cause some wear in the plastic at some point. Time will tell. At the moment this is the only negative point to the design, and it is a great pruduct overall. Even knowing this now, I would buy another, because in the case of the V6 Absolute Dyson have positively affected my lifestyle.OccasionalEngineer

I’ve had this unit for 9 months now and unlike many other reviews, I have had absolutely no problems. I have a 3 level, townhome with hard wood floors and stairs and this vacuum handles it all. The pivoting head gets into all the hard places. I can do 2 entire floors and 2 flights of stairs on a single charge. I’ve had no issues with the vacuum holding it’s charge. Others have claimed that hair is an issue for this vacuum, but I have long hair that seems to shed everywhere and have had no issues. My only criticism is that the dust/debris container is a little small and can open rather quickly when going to empty the container possibly getting some dust not into the trash if you’re not careful. Otherwise, I am very happy with this vacuum. For those complaining it doesn’t vacuum their throw rugs, it isn’t designed to do that and clearly states it, so complaints about that scattered in the negative reviews are due to human/operator error, not the device.UTJenn

Having a family of 5 with 3 little ones (no animals) time is always of the essence to get housework done. Over the course of the past 10 years, we’ve always used swiffer sweepers, swiffer vacs, along with swiffer dusters. I stumbled upon the Dyson Omni glide on Best Buy‘s website, which opened the door to me doing research to see what this little unit is all about. Let me tell you, we absolutely love it! One of the nicest features is that it has amazing suction, the rollers are easy to clean, and if hair gets tangled in it overtime, pop out the rollers and untangle, the battery charges quick, and last a long time. Our house is not huge, approx. 2400 sq. ft. With lots of hardwood flooring and LVP, And the battery last the duration. Over the course of owning swiffers, with buying new pads and the swiffer vacuum battery’s dying, this offsets that cost. This Dyson is not cheap, and I’ve noticed the price went up $50 since I last purchased it (paid $399), but I still feel it’s a good value. So much that we purchased one and for my in-laws, and one for my parents for Christmas (I purchased on Dyson’s website). I will note, purchasing off of Dyson’s website you do receive a free bag & free crevice tool, Best Buy‘s website does not offer that. My little ones love pushing it around and sucking up “mama hairs”. One minor qualm, as I wish the roller head was a little bit bigger. It would cover more space a bit quicker, but not a dealbreaker.Houseofpain1

For context, I've also got two slightly older Dyson vacuums: a DC41 upright from 2014, and a DC44 cordless from 2013. My overall experience with the omni-glide has been really positive, but there's definitely pros and cons. Pros: 1) First, let's talk about the new dual fluffy rollers head, which is the biggest pro by far. Compared to every other vacuum I've used, the new head really does feel like something special, and if your home has hard floors everywhere, I believe it is a better head than everything else which has ever been made by any manufacturer. I'm not exaggerating, it's genuinely a joy to use and picks up everything! The way it's been designed also means it has a lower profile than anything else I've ever used, which means you can clean under more things. The way the head glides actually does live up to the hype – it has little rollers underneath it and a really flexible articulated joint, so it rolls effortlessly across the floor and around things like chair legs, the way I find myself moving it around feels almost like a mop, it's that flexible! 2) The handheld unit is certainly small and light, which is likely a plus for smaller spaces and more slender people! 3) The bin is really easy to empty – the way it scrapes the dust off the grating inside as you slide it open is definitely better than the older cordless bins which you had to tap a lot to get all the dust out of. 4) The handheld attachments are well designed, and the small rotary tool works great for vacuuming the sofa fabric etc. Cons: 1) This is not a vacuum for carpets or rugs. The fluffy roller head just doesn't work well on them (in fact, in my experience the rollers stop spinning and it just doesn't vacuum much at all without them). There's no full size floor head included which would work on carpets – the only option you have is the smaller rotary head which is really designed for upholstery and would be very slow to vacuum a whole room with. So, if your home has carpets, I'd suggest you get the more versatile full size cordless vacuum instead (e.g. the new V15). 2) While the unit is small and light, the bin is also quite small so when vacuuming all of my 1 bedroom flat, I found myself emptying the bin halfway through. Not a huge inconvenience, but again, if you have a slightly larger area or the idea of emptying the bin halfway through a clean sounds super annoying to you, I'd probably recommend going for the V15 instead. 3) There's no way provided to store the attachments (e.g. to mount them on the wall with the charger like the rest of the cordless vacuum range do), and there's no way provided to carry the attachments around with the vacuum while you're cleaning. This is a minor thing, but having to go back through from one end of the house to the other to get the nozzle to vacuum a tight spot halfway through is annoying! I wish they'd provide a detachable attachment clip or something to attach the nozzles to the vacuum unit itself while you're going around – I'd personally find that much nicer than remembering to carry them around in my pocket or something. 4) The battery life is fairly short, especially if you use the "boost" mode at all (you only get a couple of minutes runtime in this mode!). I don't think this is unreasonable, as it's a trade-off between weight vs battery life – I think they made a good choice there, and the battery is easy to remove/replace. However, there's only 1 battery included, and the vast majority of customers probably aren't going to proactively go and spend more money on a second battery. So, unless they choose to include a second battery in the box, I think it's reasonable to review as if you only have one battery. Let's be clear – I have a small 1 bed flat, and in the low power mode I can – just about – vacuum my whole flat with this battery. It's ok, but without a second battery ready to hot-swap in, I'm always slightly worried about it running out at an annoying point, which causes me to treat it more like a tool I need to use short and frequently (like, vacuuming for 5 minutes every day) rather than ever vacuuming the whole home at once. Summary: This is a great vacuum for a small, hard-floor only home, and the new head is remarkably flexible (watch my video review to see what I mean!). If you have a larger home, or home with some carpets/rugs? Don't buy this. Get the more versatile V15 cordless instead. In general, I don't quite understand why this product exists! I mean, I think the new head is amazing and I've literally raved about it to friends, but I think it should just be sold as an attachment / option for the regular V15 cordless, aimed at people who have hard floors. Perhaps there's more of a demand than I expect for smaller, hard floor only vacuums with shorter runtime.beveradb

So after my other vacuum I had for a long time, even went with a family of 6 over seas when I was active duty military finally dies. We decided that we would try a Dyson, so we went with the Dyson Ball Animal 2. Honestly my kids (16-24yo) and wife usually do most of the vacuuming so they used it for the first few months and when the kids complained about the quality I thought they just didn’t want to vacuum. Finally I decided to try it for myself and I quickly agreed with their opinions. Here are some of the issues we as a family decided to put in this review. 1. For a vacuum that cost more then my first car it should have a light on it to help see in the darker areas of the house. 2. When you lock the handle to the upright position it is made with plastic and feels like it is going to break every time. 3. The extension hose has to be pulled out the full length so to do stairs or other angles are very difficult. 4. When trying to roll the vacuum on the back two wheels any little bump knocks it out of the lock position. In our opinion this unit was cheaply made and not worth the money. Will not invest in or recommend a Dyson. Wow, as I am completing this review the last question it asks me is “I received a product for free to help facilitate my review.” and the only option is “Yes.” We did not receive anything for free, we paid $499.99 plus tax for this vacuum out of our money.MSgt Robert V

I would give this vacuum less than 1 star if possible. I had my previous Dyson Vacuum for 10 years before it died on me. It was a great product. Based off than experience I decided the money was worth it to invest in another Dyson Vacuum so I purchased the Dyson Ball Animal 2 (1/25/2020). After owning it for just about 1 year month I was already having problems. I would turn the vacuum on and there would be a burning smell and a grinding noise. There is a black mechanism that divides the left and right rollers. On that mechanism there is black plastic pieces that protrude. The roller slides right on to these. The plastic appears to have melted causing the black plastic protruding piece to completely detach. This then makes it so that the roller no longer spins and the black protruding piece is broken and separated from the part that spins. After going through all of the troubleshooting Dyson sent me a new head to the vacuum (1/23/2021). At this point I had own the vacuum almost exactly a year. I thought, hey this kind of stuff happens, no big deal. Everything was fixed in a little less than 2 weeks and I was good. Then the same thing happened again on 10/23/2021. The black plastic protruding piece melted again which made the vacuum unusable. Frustratingly, Dyson had NO record of my previous issue even though I have email proof which allows me to provide the exact date of 1/23/2021. I was going through this again 9 months later. This time (due to shipping delays) it took 2 months for me to have my vacuum back and working again. Once again, I was given a new head to the vacuum. Now, 3/12/2022 I am going through the same issue again for a 3rd time. The black plastic protruding piece seams to have melted again! I am now having to mail the entire vacuum in and hopefully will get it back fixed within 14 days. I was beyond frustrated and the person on the phone said that all they could do is send it in to get repaired or give me 20% off another Dyson purchase. I have now owned this vacuum for a little over 2 years. Assuming I get the current issues fixed within 14 days the vacuum will have spent about 4 months of time being repair or waiting for replacement parts. In other words, inoperable. It is only my wife and I that used the vacuum. My children to not touch it. Also keep in mind that I take very good care of the vacuum. With all of the issues we have had with this vacuum I am very diligent in cleaning the hair and other stuff out of the rollers after every use. I vacuum the entire house every Saturday which is about 3000 sq/ft and mostly carpet. Can this vacuum not handle that kind of usage at a single time? It appears that it cannot although our older Dyson vacuum could do it just fine. I believe I spent somewhere between $600-$700 dollars on the vacuum. That is a vary big purchase price for something that keeps breaking down. I fear that I will continue to go through this because the Dyson Ball Animal 2 is poorly designed. I do not want to continue going through this until the warranty runs out and then be forced to get something new at my expense. I pay that much money for quality which means that I expect to use this vacuum for many years. I guess for now I will wait on my vacuum to return and fixed for a 3rd time and keep my figures crossed. Ideally I would be willing to get some of my money back from purchasing this vacuum and use it to buy a different model Dyson. Yes, I would be willing to give Dyson ONE more chance with a different model. Just offering me a 20% discount on a new vacuum is not going to cut it when in just 2 years I have had some many issues after spending hundreds of dollars on a vacuum that promises quality. I have been a lifelong user of Dyson vacuums from the very earliest days. I have always thought that they are the best. Sad to say that after 2 years of use I cannot say that about the Animal 2. Just for the record we also have the Dyson V6 Animal which my wife uses because of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Once a week I will do the heavy duty, top to bottom house clean with the Animal 2. And I don't look forward to it at all. First of all the positives: 1. Fantastic suction 2. I use all of the heads that can be attached to the hose and are excellent for getting into the difficult spots. The negatives: 1. This is a heavy machine. Now I keep myself fit but you get a workout from this machine. Because it is heavy it is not the most manoeuvrable. Somebody like my wife who has RA can forget about using this for more than a minute or two. 2. When using it with the hose when the accessories are attached, the machine does not follow easily and more often than not tips over. It is shocking for doing that. I wouldn't even contemplate using it for the stairs. 3. The hose may be lighter than previous models but honestly does not feel as robust. But so far it has stood two years worth of use. 4. The power cable is sadly far inferior to previous models. It is of cheaper quality and easily gets entangled around the wheels of the vacuum when using the hose and even when using it without the hose. It may be a longer hose (I think) but it gets tangled so easily. All in all, this is one of the worst Dyson's we have had.Andy

The filtration seems great — no sneezing fits after vacuuming! Cons: This is an extremely noisy machine, particularly when using the wand with attachments, especially the stair tool. Stair tool is less than 5 inches wide, rendering it useless. Using the cleaner head doesn't fully vacuum dust off of hardwood floors – it seems that I will have to separately purchase the "articulating hard floor" tool to get the job done right. The wand is extremely awkward to use: the hose retracts too tightly and pulls the vacuum if you try to use it fully extended. The hose crimps and blocks the suction since it doesn't have any curvature where one's hand holds it. (I note that all promo picture show the hose extended fully straight — is it not supposed to be used at an angle?) The cleaner head is rather wide and not ideal for smaller spaces. Cleaner head with beater turned on can easily suck up fringe and edges of thin rugs, and in fact has shredded the edges of a sisal rug. This is not an ideal vacuum for those with lots of rugs and wood floors who want to try to clean both at the same time without continuously toggling back and forth between using the cleaner head and the wand. The machine feels flimsy, cheap, and wobbly. The handle always feels like it is about to twist and snap off. My 20 year old Miele is a far better vacuum in terms of design and quality.DJBklyn

Again I will first complain about how HEAVY it is – Seriously, if you are not strong and you have more than one level in your home, reconsider before purchasing this vacuum. Moving it up and down the stairs is a challenge – my son can't do it and my husband complains of it's weight when he has to so take that into consideration. My last Dyson was half this weight and still cleaned great. Besides the weight though, I have had so a bunch of other issues with this model – some small, some not. > There are too many points where dirt gets stuck and I have to literally take half the vacuum apart to figure out where the clog is and to fix it. This has happened to me sooooo many times and I literally have to follow the tubing to see where the issue is, sometimes it is in the wand, sometimes in the actual vacuum part and sometimes it is where the dirt goes into the dirt cabinet (or whatever it is called). I have spent so much time cleaning out my vacuum to make it work and then causing a huge mess of dirt on the floor that it causes my cleaning time to take way longer than it should. I have kids and pets so there's all kinds of small things on the floor, but I expect a vacuum of this caliber to be able to not only handle it but not require me sit down on the floor and conduct surger on my vacuum to fix the issue. > In order to use the wand I have to unwind all of the plug cable as the cable locks the wand into place on the vacuum – just not convenient. > After using the wand, trying to put it back in place is such a challenge that half the time my family won't even take the time to put it back in its place – it just doesn't want to go where it should. > When using the wand, your hand sits on the stretch tube part and as it picks things up it hits stretchy tube part right where your hand is – half the times I think that there is a hole because it feels like it really is hitting my hand but I realize there is no hole but then the rest of me wonders how long will this stretch section actually last if things are constantly hitting it in the same spot??? I bought a Dyson Vacuum in 2006. It was amazing, I couldn't believe how good a vacuum it was…a little pricey at $300 compared to competitors, but well worth the money. The suction was fantastic and the tool organization was amazing. Fast forward to 2021 and that Dyson, now 15 years old dies…and totally understandable she went thru a lot. So now, simplest fix is to buy a new Dyson…big mistake. I don't know what they have been doing since 2006, but they now make a terribly cheap vacuum, which now surprising costs even more at $499 (inflation). It is clunky, fully manufactured with the cheapest and thinnest plastics and they changed some of the impressive designs in 2006 to something much less user friendly. It truly amazes me that they could have done nothing for 15 years and would still have a vacuum way better than what they sell now. Only explanation is greed, squeeze out every penny from the Dyson name, but make a product they no is crap.Benjamin

So I've owned a Ball Animal 2 for about 3 yrs and have had a love/hate relationship with it. And having owned the Ball Animal 3 for almost a month now, I can honestly say I still have a love/hate relationship with this brand. I purchased the Animal 3 because I was glad to finally see that Dyson opted to change the Cleaning Head to what the UK variant has had for awhile now, which is having a carpet height selector. Now I really have to say that the Animal 3 has so much better suction with having the carpet height selector, but that also has a negative that I've found. I find it very difficult to turn now compared to the Animal 2 which turned on a dime. I will for sure keep it as I don't want to jump through the hoops of returning it, but I don't believe I will be making any future Dyson vacuum purchases in the future after this experience. The cost of these vacuums is very much on the high side and with that you would expect that they would do their own inhouse study/testing and they seem to have failed at this. In the end it basically comes down to the fact that the negatives outweigh the positives when compared to what you expect when making such an expensive purchase. Yes the suction is probably the best you'll ever have with any vacuum on the market BUT with negative costs. Being a "BALL" vacuum and unlike the Animal 2 that could turn easily, this thing is a major struggle to turn… NOT GOOD! The Animal 3 also has the same issues like the Animal 2 in that trying to use the hose is a chore on it's own. The suction is just so strong that you basically need to have the vacuum right next you or end up having to do things like… prop the vacuum around the corner of a wall and then stretch out the hose while also having some decent arm and upper body strength to do so with even minimal comfort. The "Cyclone" portion of the vacuum is a very poor design. Due to a common static charge while vacuuming, it allows for dust to build up in massive clumps within the Cyclone piece. You need to constantly bang the heck out of this piece while over a trash can in order to keep it even somewhat clean. And they don't make it so the Cyclone can be easily disassembled for cleaning which is a huge disappointment and failure within it's design. I also find it upsetting that even though Dyson offers a TON of accessories for these upright models… they don't offer one of the most common of accessories… a basic dusting brush! Yes it comes with a combo tool for crevice and dusting. They even offer a wide variety of other dusting attachments… ones that can twist for angled dusting, one that can bend etc etc… but then not your basic common everyday short dusting brush that's found on 99.9% of vacuums since they were invented. Really boggles my mind. No lie… since I still have the Animal 2, I took the combo tool from that one and ended up cutting off basically 80% of the crevice tool portion to make my own "basic short dusting brush!". Dyson if your listening: You should have listened to your customer base and address the issue with the hose being difficult to use. I'm sure there has to be a solution… maybe a hose that's not as stiff? Look into my "home modification" of the basic short dusting brush and release a factory version. And please look into the problem of the Animal 3 being so much harder to turn compared to the Animal 2.MotionMan

Dyson products seem to always be ones made to delight. I really enjoyed this vacuum which is an upgrade for my family over a Dyson – Cinetic Big Ball Animal Bagless Upright Vacuum – Iron/Purple that purchased from Best Buy 6 years ago. 6 years later and Dyson's vacuums are still amazing, this one has strong suction that you expect from the name and is somewhat smaller and more compact that the predecessor. I think it runs quieter too although I have not used the deicbel app to compare quantitatively. The smaller size means that there are spots in the corners and around furniture that are now easier to vacuum than before but the head itself sits taller, tall enough that I can no longer vacuum underneath the chairs and couches. The reason for the change in headsize is actually the main draw of this vacuum — the head has been completely redesigned so as to prevent the bunching of pet hair within the bristles. As we have a dog and two cats sharing the house with us, this has been a pain point in the past. Even our dysons need to be taken apart and cleaned of fur at least every 6 weeks so that they continue to run smooth. The early results from a weekend of vaccuming are very promising: the bristles are still out-of-the-box new despite several passes over our house that had gone embarrasingly long between vacuums prior delivery of a new machine. I'm hopeful that this is another part of cleaning that Dyson has made slightly easier.BostonBru

My experience with this rendition of their Ball design bears that out, and I've been largely pleased with it. The Animal version of the Ball is marketed specifically at people with pets, to clean up the hair from carpets and furniture. I find it's also handy if you or the people you live with have long hair. In general, it cleans quite well. It has very powerful suction and the power bar base has three settings for deep pile carpet, normal carpet, and hard floors. The power bar itself can also be toggled on and off. I found it cleaned my carpets quite well, though cleaning my hardwood left a little to be desired ( the instruction manual recommends turning the power bar off for this, I'm not sure why ). It also has a very generous cord length. And though Dyson created the Ball design specifically to make it easier to steer the vacuum around corners and obstacles, I find it much stiffer to turn than other current swivel head vacuums. I appreciate Dyson's design in the vacuum. It's fairly modular, making it relatively easy to service and maintain yourself, provided you can get a replacement part. The filters are washable so you can reuse them instead of constantly buying new replacements. It also keeps things slim and trim so the vacuum is a little more compact than other full-size uprights. This particular model also comes with two extra attachment tools. One is an upholstery brush/cleaner, the other is a pet grooming tool that's supposed to suck up the shedded hair as you brush. How well your pet will handle being brushed near a vacuum remains to be seen. But sometimes I think it tries to be too clever. It uses a friction snap instead of a pedal to release the vertical lock. It's usually fine, but it also means you can accidentally release the upright lock when you don't want to, like if you want to tilt the vacuum back and roll it somewhere or even if you pick it up and then set it down. The extension wand is stored inside the hose in the main column. This is nice for reducing the exterior dimensions, but it also means you have to unwind the entire cord and slide out the entire wand when you want to do some quick spot cleaning. You can detach the wand from the hose if you don't need or want the reach, like in a small corner or nook, but in those moments where you just want to quickly clean up some cookie crumbs or dust bunnies, it's more involved than you might be used to. The main handle is also reversed to accommodate the extension wand, putting the main column below your hand instead of above it when you're using the vacuum. This means the vacuum tilts back farther than others when using it. For myself, I found my legs and knees bumped into main unit a lot since it was now leaning more toward me. Most of these complaints are small quirks, admittedly. They may or may not matter to you. All in all, it's a well built vacuum, it cleans well, and it stores easily. It does have a few quirks and the "exhaust" air is quite hot, but these are minor complaints on an otherwise great vacuum.Jaron

If you’ve never used a battery powered stick vacuum, you’re working too hard. The Dyson V7 Advanced Origin vacuum Is one of the lightest vacuums I have used. Easy to maneuver around furniture and items with a flick of the wrist and with its thin beater bar, it fits under furniture with ease. The battery provides about 30 minutes of vacuuming. At first, I thought this may not be enough considering how much time I used to spend vacuuming. But it turns out once you eliminate the time spent plugging and unplugging the vacuum, minding the cord so it doesn’t get stuck or knock something over, or moving things to vacuum around or under them, I found I could vacuum the house much faster than I ever could before with much less effort. Not that I have much battery left, it’s just about all used up. I do feel a bit of “Range Anxiety” having just one fixed battery and do rush more. A replaceable battery pack as used on cordless drills and other tools would be a welcome addition. This Dyson comes with a combination tool, the wand/pipe, and a de-tangling motor bar cleaner head. with hair removal vanes that clear long hair and pet hair from the brush bar. The motor bar cleaner head seems to work, no hair or strings got wrapped around the beater brush. Be aware that this model comes with just what is listed in the product description, the combination tool attachment. There is no crevice or other attachments which used to be standard. Nor is there a wall mounted charging dock. If you know you will need the attachments, you should look at other Dyson models that include them or purchase them separately. Not a problem for me replacing a well-used Dyson vacuum that came with the attachments which are all still in excellent condition. Not including the attachments keeps the older ones that are in good shape from going into the landfill and should help keep the price down. This seems to align with the packaging which was all fully recyclable cardboard. No foam, plastic or other environmentally bad packing material was used. Replace the wand with the combination tool and you have a very powerful hand-held vacuum to clean furniture, drapes, the car, or whatever you need one for. The normal/low power setting seems perfectly adequate for hard wood floors and low pile carpet. The High-power mode adds a very noticeable increase in vacuum power and noise. Nice to have when you need it, but I found I rarely did. The Dyson is a well-made vacuum. Very nimble and powerful. Everything fits and functions exceptionally well, which is what I have come to expect of the brand.MrBill250

Up to now we have been very happy with our v10 – great performance and useability. But after 18 months two niggly problems have surfaced as a result of the failure of small plastic pieces that are not sold as replacement parts – you have to replace the whole assembly. 1. The red plastic button that attaches the wand to the body has broken and falls off. 2. The red plastic clip that is supposed to stop the bin sliding off the body has worn away, so that the bin comes off every time you just want to empty it. Both are small plastic pieces that are clearly separate to the main components and should be replaceable – but they are not. I was quoted £121 to replace the wand and the body – that is both extortionate pricing and a total waste of the other parts that are duplicated when you buy the spares. Dyson should do better to support customers and the environment. I will also say that we have a still working V6 (nothing gone wrong) and an old DC04 which has had many parts replaced over its' long life, but it still runs fine and was cheap/easy to fix. I guess that says that they are not built like they used to be. Oh and one more thing – the flexible hose for the V10 also fell apart after a year!Disappointed

I have always been huge Dyson fan as I find their products work well and stand the test of time. This cordless vac reminds me of the one I originally purchased nearly 10 years ago. It is nimble and very well balanced. On a fully charged battery, I have been able to spot clean multiple rooms, multiple times (hard floors with a few small rugs). I have used other cordless vacuums and find them to be unevenly weighted compared to the Dyson. The body of this is somewhat heavy for its sized, but the grip, and overall design are very ergonomic and I feel it conforms to the movement of my hand and wrist seamlessly. This makes the weight less of a concern, which is a factor for me as it determines whether I can effectively use a product or not. I personally wish that the on/off was a switch rather than a sqeeze trigger and that the option for max power was a push button thumb trigger rather than sliding switch on top of the body. Also of note, this model does not include any kind of wall mount kit for storage/charging, where my previous model did. I do find the model to be a bit noisy especially on MAX mode, but it is not intolerable. The beater bar does great job picking up hair without tangling.ArmadaJim

Pros: It was noticeable how the rotating brushes really groomed the carpet pile with good suction & is driven by its own motor within the head. The additional accessory; small longer rotating brush used on the stairs without the long poll made a great job of the stairs. Cons: We have just purchased this v8 to replace a v6 animalBoth vacs connections seem not to join rigidly with a bit of play which will eventually put extra stress & would benefit from some kind of rubber grommet between the connecting long poll to tighten both the head & main casing. Also the replacement batteries seem expensive. The charger wire insulation is too stiff & made of some kind of vinyl/inflexible plastic which seems inflexible & eventually splits & uncovers the very thin wires next to the 3 prong plug body, which can then pull away.We have had 5 batteries with the older model & note this new one is the same. They all become split eventually. Needs to be a rubberised material instead.Ian

I got a V7 in Jan 2019. Initially, and for about 1.5 yrs., I thoroughly enjoyed it. Then my housecleaner told me a charge didn't last more than 10 mins. Because I have another plug-in vacuum, I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I hired another cleaner. She brought her own vacuum so it hasn't been used at all since Jan 2022. Just in the last week, I tried to use it and it only lasted about 30 seconds. I had a very good experience with the website and service person on the phone but I have been advised that a new battery is necessary. If that is correct, I must say that I am disappointed in Dyson. I expected better performance from their machine. For a machine that is 3 1/2 yrs. old and only used perhaps 2 years of that (and not solely because I have another machine), I think the battery should last longer. And, if the cost of the battery is 1/4 of the price of the machine, I think that is even more disappointing. And, it's the cost of the battery + shipping. My carpenter husband has battery powered tools, uses them consistently and has never had to replace a battery. That knowledge doesn't help me. Is it possible that the charging station is defective? At any rate, as much as I loved it in the beginning, I'm pretty unhappy at present. I recommended my vacuum to lots of friends at first but now, I would have to tell them the whole story and what to expect.Bren

The Good: The vacuum unit itself is exceptional, with excellent suction, ease of maintenance, run time, and insofar longevity; it competes well with your average full-sized canister vacuums, which is truly impressive given the size of the Dyson. The hype, on this front, is valid. The Bad: However, the well-built central unit is let down by tools and accessories with components made from fragile, heat-molded plastic. Essentially, only the mechanical drive components are made from metal (I think), but everything else is plastic. While Dyson boasts that the main machine body is made from "ABS Polycarbonate" (think: riot shields), the smaller components seem to be made of high-density polyethylene or similar material. Our smaller motorized head unit suffered a breakage in the head-to-guard joint, which should not be the case for a relatively new, seldom used part. The use of brittle plastic in such a high-wear area by the spinning rotor seems at best poor design, at worst planned obsolescence. I understand that full-metal construction is a thing of the past, but "full-plastic" construction is not a viable alternative; some components need to be metal, full stop. The Ugly: Unfortunately, warranty details are misleading as they apparently do not include the tools, and nowhere in the warranty documentation provided was there a distinction between "tools" and the "unit." While I understand that normal wear-and-tear is to be expected and therefore not covered by warranty, I am disappointed with the craftsmanship of a really expensive product that utilizes non-durable heat-molded plastic for high-stress areas, specifically around moving joints. The concern is that having both motorized head units break renders the unit unable to clean carpet or furniture fabric, reducing 90% of its utility, and will cost you ~$200 extra to purchase the new motorized heads. In closing; a great unit overall, but my confidence in the product is let down by the fragility of the core tools and some of the convenient language of the warranty provided. Either warranty everything you produce or make it clear that the warranty only applies to the literal vacuum itself.Marcus_W

The first point we we make is that most of the 'positive' reviews are from customers who have not owned one for very long! Wait a couple of years (i.e. until the 'guarantee' has run out!) then see how you feel about it! Like other customers we have read on here – and other review sites – ours starting playing up just after the 2 year guarantee had expired. And like many other 'negative' reviewers it was the 'trigger' that became temperamental at first and has now ceased working altogether – and the machine won't take a charge now either. We called the Support number to be advised that our only option was a replacement "main body assembly" at £85 – but we then got cut-off somehow, so I called back and went through the entire process again to be told that the part we need is not available in stock! But this time we were given another option – have the machine collected to be serviced and repaired as necessary by Dyson for £79 – plus any parts that would be required including the replacement main body assembly at £85! Utterly shameful! For £600 you expect to get something that will be robust and long-lasting. When Dyson were entirely "Made in Britain" they were excellent – but now they are absolute rubbish. This is the second we have had since they are no longer 'British Made' – the first was appalling and we were only drawn to this second one by the fact that we didn't find anything any better when we first looked around and by 'customer reviews' which we now understand are largely written by people who havn't owned one for long enough! Our 2 and a bit year old Dyson v11 is now consigned to 'landfill' (which in itself rankles and we are extremely disappointed about!) – we will take our time this time around to find something better and will NEVER buy a Dyson again!Chris

I have used the V11 for 6weeks. The suction power is very impressive. The suction is better than my corded Miele vacuum cleaner and it is much quieter and way lighter. It has removed far more dirt than the Miele which is only two years old. The V11 has brought vacuuming into the 21st century. The various attachments are easily attached and removed, the machine is light, steers easily over carpets and hard floors. The ‘boost’ setting has huge suction power, which I rarely need to use, the ‘auto’ and ‘economy’ settings are perfectly adequate for 99% of usage. I have a Labrador which moults continuously and the V11 picks up all the dogs hairs without any problem from both carpets and hard floors. The battery is currently more than adequate, I have not yet run it flat, using it in a 3 bed size house. Emptying the bin is very simple and works easily. The floor brush head keeps itself clean, I,e,there are no hairs wrapped around the roller and after 6 weeks it still looks like new. Dare I say it is a joy to use – even the kids are using it because it is so easy to operate !! I’m not impressed by many things and I’ve had Bosch and Miele vacuum cleaners which were both good but, this V11 out scores them hands down, no contest. I would happily go out selling the Dyson V11 as it is such a a convincing machine, I highly recommend it. ( And no, I am not a dyson employee!! ).Geoff

Our old vac. died and my husband has always wanted an upright vacuum cleaner. As he is the one who does most of the vacuuming I told him to buy whatever he wanted. We have always wanted to try a Dyson but the price was always too expensive. Myer had this one on a good special so we got it. We have 2 long haired big dogs who come inside regularly and of course leave fur behind on the carpet. We have carpet all through our house with tiles mainly in the wet areas. The vacuum cleaner is heavy but my husband finds it is not much harder to push than the old barrel vac. because of the powerful head. The suction is excellent and seems to suck up so much more dirt and fur than the old one. The power head is quite wide and does not easily get into some of the narrower spaces the old vac did. It has a very long power cord which is great but I do miss the an auto rewind feature. Moving from hard floors to carpet is no problem. This vac. does not have adjustable suction so on more delicate mats it is harder to use. A flexible extension hose is attached to the upright handle along with different floor tool attachments. It is able to be used for those more difficult to get to places. I found the flexible hose very strong and not particularly flexible, and tended to pull the vacuum over if used too roughly. This is my least liked part of the Dyson. The canister is fairly easy to empty though the dust does tend to cling inside due to static electricity and needs a strong shake/tap or something put into the canister to help dislodge all the dust. Time will tell as to its reliability.DebWy

I absolutely love this vacuum. The ONLY reason I gave 4 stars is because it’s heavy. I’ve had it for 10 years I feel like. This poor thing has been through the ringer and used for many things (some things I probably should’ve used a shop vac for 🤷🏼‍♀️)but has performed so well. I’ve YouTube’s and taken apart before to fix clogs and different things and I have to say it’s easy to work on. I just got it serviced for the first time ever and it was well overdue. This vacuum is by far the best vacuum I've ever owned. My boyfriend and I purchased this before we moved into a new apartment (ALL CARPET) back in May 2015. Our Kitty before moving was an outdoor cat and had to transition to being an indoor cat when we moved into our new place. The combination of our 1100 square foot apt and our now indoor cat caused quite a lot of dust/hair/dirt. I am very allergic to cats so this was quite the dilemma for me. Thankfully this vacuum does an amazing job at sucking up cat hair/dander/dust/dirt and sometimes even things you don't necessarily want to vacuum up. My vacuum and I were doing great once a week vacuuming up everything I desired…until it wasn't… The wand you use to vacuum stuff up has a few different attachments depending on what task is at hand. My task last August was to vacuum up all the excess cat litter/lint in our combo bathroom/cat bathroom/laundry room. All was going well until I stuck the wand in between the wall and the side of the dryer trying to make sure I got every piece of lint hair etc. All of a sudden I hear a noise where I could tell I vacuumed something bad up there and could tell the suction was being impaired.. Somehow I vacuumed a mini sized BIC lighter that got wedged in the middle of the vacuum wand. I literally tried every way I could think of to try to push it out. I tried sticking a long dowel down the tube to try to push it out which only broke my wooden dowel.. then I tried to lubricate it with some water/oil which also didn't work. Finally after two weeks of attempting to dislodge the lighter I broke down and bought a $20 replacement off Amazon and then proceeded to snap the busted lighter stuck in it one in half (took a number of attempts so clearly this is some well made plastic)molly.p

I've been using my Dyson for 9 months. It's very quiet compared to any of my previous Dysons. I am very impressed with its suction on carpets and hard floors and it does a good job sucking up dirt and dust close to the skirting boards etc. It has no problem with larger items either. Sometimes it's suction is too good and even though you can turn the suction down, a few of my mats are almost impossible to clean without them being sucked up into the roller bar. It's very light to carry up and downstairs and can get further under furniture than my old Dyson. It's very manoeuvrable which makes it a joy to use. The button to switch the roller bar on and off is located near the on/off switch which is an excellent idea. The design of the roller bar means that it rarely gets anything, like hair, wrapped around it, making the job of unclogging the roller redundant. Unfortunately, the dust canister is very hard to empty and clumps of hair get stuck at the top of it every time I empty it. The only solution to this is to take it apart and remove the hair by hand. Never had this problem before. Another negative are the tools and the extending hose. The hose is not that easy to extend, it feels like it's trying to twist out of my hand as I extend it. The crevice tool is a lot slimmer than my old one which makes it useful for getting into narrow places but I find it too long and therefore, uncomfortable to use for some jobs. The brush is only useful for high level cleans, like getting cobwebs off the ceiling, as it sits at the end of the long crevice tool and is extremely hard on your wrists using it on anything which is close to you, such as furniture or animal bedding. Never had this problem with previous models and I've always found the tools to be very user friendly until now. Unfortunately my old tools are not interchangeable with this new machine which is a disasppointment. Overall I am pleased with the performance of the machine but would not consider buying another one unless the tools are redesigned.ChrisJM

I have been holding out on buying/trying a Dyson since they came out just having a feeling that they were a lot of "hype" – but with my shark aging and buying new carpets AND this being a stellar deal on Black Friday – I decided to give it a try. I am sad to say it was a big mistake. I am not sure how this thing has such a great overall star rating when many of the top reviews are much like mine… hopefully you all read them before you buy. First, it has great suction. Like so great that it doesn't even work on my new carpet. I do not have a high pile frieze or shag – it is a regular plush carpet and this thing jams up and the roller stops and it is impossible to push. Works great on my hard floors and cheap Berber carpet – but that's about it. The wand is useless – totally cumbersome and tips the machine over. The ball/roller squeak every time I push it forward and pull it back. The handle doesn't stay clicked to the base, so when you tip it back to try to wheel it to put it away etc. it flops down hard onto your floor. Also, it is SO loud and smells like something is burning every time I use it. I am having a really hard time believing that this has some sort of cosmic "superior" design. It is so flawed in the most basic of ways! I will NEVER buy a Dyson again – lesson learned.jmickels

Purchased this a couple of weeks back, and what a joy the thing is to use! We have a Chocolate Labrador, a toddler and (somewhat) cream carpets, so as you can imagine, pet hair and debris etc. is very obvious! We have previously owned/used other manufacturers products, and whilst the uprights were 'competent', they were nowhere near as good as this. Most recently, unfortunately, our old upright 'blew up' and we were in dire need of something new: enter the Dyson Light Ball Animal. Easy to construct when you get it out of the box, surprisingly quiet for such a powerful vacuum, and the motorised brush at the front, able to cover all floor types and with a 'stronger'/'weaker' setting it's very versatile. Includes the usual handheld attachments and also a mini motorised pet tool for those tougher ingrained areas. The hose is quite long, but it can be a little awkward when using on stairs due to the awkwardness of the wheels and 'ball' mechanism when not on a more traditional flat surface, but this is easily manageable. Using the ball to get around takes a little getting used to, when so accustomed to traditional uprights, but you soon get used to it, and it's really great. It almost feels like flying! When on the standard or 'lower' power mode you'd barely know you're using it, and the 'max' power mode makes a huge difference, the suction power is VERY noticeable. Easy to empty, simply press the button to release the bin, push down a pin to open the compartment and then shake the dust free and away you go. My only complaint is that the construction of the 'bin' around the handle is a little flimsy. You can hear it squeak and shake around as you handle it, just feels like really flimsy low-quality build when compared to the rest of it overall. I guess I was hoping for something more sturdy for what is a high premium for a vacuum cleaner. Overall though, the thing is excellent, and having the 5 Year guarantee from Dyson direct as well is really helpful. Gives peace of mind for sure, makes it more of an investment. I just wish we had nice new carpets to go with it, aside from stains, they'd never be dirty!BCM88

I am so upset and disappointed with the DC50. I had no idea such a well known and well respected firm such as Dyson could produce a vacuum that won't move on carpet. My parents have had Dysons since they came out and always loved them. I saw this one and though ideal size for my house, lightweight, brilliant. Stupidly impulse bought before looking up reviews online. Now I see its a common problem. Our carpet is medium pile, yet the vacuum initially is hard to push and I mean really hard, then the rotating brush just stops working which makes it practically impossible to push. I press the button to get the rotating brush going again, one push and it stops. Its not a fault with the machine because a lot of other people complain about this issue. I just can't believe theres a vacuum on the market that won't work on carpet. I now feel stuck with a very expensive mistake. One plus though, I cannot fault the suction (probably why its so hard to push) but the tiny bit of the living room I managed to do before slumping and crying because I wasted so much money, it sucked up loads of bits and dog hair that our old vacuum had completely missed.lynsmith

Although, it pains me somewhat to write a review on a vacuum cleaner, the Dyson range is clearly noteworthy…. and then some! I have been a proponent of the Dyson range for over 20 years; I continue to be a ardent supporter and the Dyson Small Ball Multi Floor vacuum is no exception. I have, today, retired a long-serving (7 years) DC12 – with full honours! It served us extremely well (until yesterday, when it sadly gave up the ghost). Although I was completely satisfied with the retiree's performance; but, we had not appreciated how tired it had become. A 4-bed house, 2 teenagers, 2 dogs and recent new carpets. The "new kid on the block" has hit the carpets running. We had new carpets a year ago and today's first outing for the Small Ball has been first class; visibly discernible results. Outstanding suction, reduced noise and effortless to manoeuvre around the house. Thank you to the Dyson team for delivering another absolutely first class cleaning product! Having used this vacuum over the Christmas and New Year break when all the family and their dogs descend onto us, in excess of 5 Labradors, I can truly give the Dyson Small Ball 5 stars. On a daily basis it copes with the fallout of my 3 dogs and messy husband and although the dust bin is small and fills quickly I can only assume this is because it is so efficient, my carpets and rugs look way cleaner and it adjusts from hard to soft surfaces with ease. The compact and neat design of this machine has many advantages, the first being storage, I like my cleaner to be available but not in the way, this little beauty can be popped into a cupboard or even tucked away behind a sofa or armchair! (my little trick) With the retractable handle it folds down into a small unit and in a small house would be an ideal choice. The cleaning properties of the Small Ball are improved by the smaller brush head, it gets into little spaces easily and the wand features are amazing, the vacuum is well balanced and does not fall over when you are catching cobwebs, so much better with the tools on-board, nothing gets lost. With regard to the small dust bin, I found this a positive feature as you have to empty it on a regular basis thus avoiding the musty smells that can arise when the dirt is left in the bin to fester for a couple of weeks! You need to take the bin apart to empty it thoroughly if like me you have animals, as the hair shoots up the canister and can wedge in the top, but it's easy to do as long as you are not heavy handed. The Small Ball is an all round great machine, it easily copes with a large, messy house and I can highly recommend it.Mamabaz

OMG! I didn't think it was possible, but I've fallen in love with a vacuum. Tried cordless before and dissatisfied with suction, battery life, etc. This model came with all the attachments I could possibly use. Suction is fantastic for any vacuum, let alone a cordless. Keeps a charge long enough to vacuum whole house. Works great on all the area rugs, hardwoods and tile floors. Super easy to empty the canister too. I really loved this vacuum until the motor broke after only one year. I guess that’s what happens when you purchase a refurbished item vs a brand new one. The overall vacuum is great. The canister holds a lot before you need to empty it, and it truly lives up to being a “pet vacuum.” I have a husky and it was able to handle all of his fur. Perfect for vacuuming hardwood floors, as well as area rugs and dog beds. Definitely just purchase a brand new one instead of refurbished!Danni

I’m not sure why people rave about dyson. My parents have the dyson ball and it clogs a lot (my dad had a German shepherd). Theirs is also heavy which is tiring. So I should have known I wouldn’t like the cordless. It’s basically a glorified sweeper. I hope no one has this as their main vacuum because it’s not strong enough to be your main vacuum especially with a bunch of carpet. We have mostly rugs and hardwood floors. Sometimes it picks up cat litter, other times it might fling it backwards. It NEVER. Vacuums cat food or kids cereal or big crumbs on hardwood because the bottom opening is so small which is IRRITATING. It just drags the larger stuff all around the place. Like what’s the point? It also doesn’t have a light in the front so when I use my corded shark navigator I see the dust and cat hair I miss with my dyson. I want to try the bissel cordless since it has a light but I have a feeling it’s probably just as annoying, but with a helpful light. Overall, I like my over priced sweeper, not extremely happy and not sure what the hype around dyson is. They’re not great at all. Save your money and try a different brand or better yet, just buy a corded vacuum unless you just want a super expensive sweeper then this ones for you!Powers

Love it! I've always wanted a Dyson but the price was intimidating to me. I HATE cords. I live in a smaller space and it takes me longer to get my vacuum out and deal with the cord, then it does for me to actually vacuum. So I love that this is cordless. I read a ton of customer reviews beforehand and it seems like the V7 and the V8 get the most praise from customers, so I knew I wanted one of those two models. I read about the battery life and I read the manual and then I went to Dyson's website itself and read everything they had to say about battery life, tips and tricks etc… and it seems like heat is the enemy with these batteries. It says not to charge it immediately after you finish vacuuming, let it cool down first… things like that. So I think I know how to make it last as long as possible. I used it just a few minutes ago. LOVED it! No cord, it's magnificent. I started in the living room, then I went into my daughter's room and then my room and then I went into the kitchen and it handled cat litter like a boss! I love that I don't have to touch the dirt, it just falls right out of the canister into the trash. My corded vacuum, the bottom opens on the canister but it doesn't come out, I have to reach in and pull it out and then go right to the sink and wash my hands. Gross. So I love that this Dyson is the opposite of all the annoyances my corded vacuum has. Plus it's on sale right now and I saved 80 bucks. It's a dream and I hope it lasts me a long long time to come. I do, however, have to concur with the customer review I read that mentioned hand cramping. I got that. By the time I was finishing up, my hand was hurting/cramping enough that I had to switch to my other hand. That might just be me though, I get that when I have to hold the switch on the weed wacker too.kkbearmama

Let's start off by saying this is the best vacuum I've ever had. The suction power is amazing, and I am still surprised by how much dirt, dust, and hair it manages to suck up with each use. Having a cat that sheds a lot, this vacuum has been an incredible tool to have in the home. The ability to wall-mount this vacuum for recharging, and its light weight, make for convenient use, storage, and charging. This is also the perfect vacuum for stairs; the floor attachment can be used as a stick-vac or as a hand-vac with ease. Emptying the vacuum canister is super easy as well. Additionally, the floor vacuum attachment makes it easy to remove the roller to allow for clearing any longer hair or objects that end up wrapping themselves around the roller. A few small frustrations and limitations: The swivel elbow on the floor attachment clogs up frequently due to pet hair and longer female human hair. The battery life is a little shorter than I'd like. You can stretch battery life by not using the MAX function, but realistically, who isn't going to use the MAX function when it is available and does the best job cleaning? Overall, this is a great vacuum, especially for smaller homes and offices and those who have a pet or two that regularly sheds hair. But if you need longer battery life and don't want to deal with clearing out hair clogs in the floor vacuum attachment, you may want to choose an upgraded model.TheRealOrdizzle
