Best Electric Bike Rack For Suv (2024 Update)

I did hours and hours of research and ended up choosing between what I call "the big three", but compared countless off brands as well. I am now replacing a Saris Thelma 2 bike rack from 2015, and before that a Saris trunk mount rack. So we will refer to Saris, Kuat and Thule for this review. I have Specialized and Gary Fisher mountain bikes(heavy), Trek and Euro hybrids(moderate weight), and most importantly a Litespeed Tuscany road machine(weighs less than a gallon of water). Being able to fit any combination of my five bikes is key. I chose Saris again for three basic reasons-Saris has clamping hooks for BOTH front and rear tires, Saris has wheel wells/cups for BOTH front and rear tires, plus Saris was AVAILABLE and ready for purchase from their website. Thule and Kuat could not be bought from their websites-you had to find a retailer who may or may not have anything in stock, mostly not. These three options were in the same group with features and costs being much the same for comparison. Kuat and Thule both have only one clamping arm per bike, and NO wheel wells/cups but rather slippery, flat platforms with maybe an indentation or recession where the wheels sit. But there is much more to talk about: Saris does some advertisments for the SuperClamp in two short videos using a supercute redhead with the most amazing green eyes. The first video sells the function and features. The second video expalins assembly and use. They boast about the "single rail", small footprint and being lightweight. She hoists this rack up in the air over her shoulder in the first video! Do not try this at home, you'll get a hernia. So the only difference between the EX and HD is a dedicated 2" hitch receiver bar with the HD, rather than the 1 1/4" on the EX. I plan to upgrade my EX by replacing my 1 1/4 " with a 2" bar when they become available again. That being said these are my findings with the SuperClamp. I recieved the rack in the mail 2 or 3 days after my purchase online. There were some minor shipping damage issues but nothing to stop it from being used, and I was able to repair these with some moderate effort. A few small pieces were rolling around in the box as well. So shipping and delivery were very fast. Assembly was a breeze and easiest to do with the receiver bar mounted in the hitch, there's a hitch lock here too. Basically two bolts and nuts for installation. But if a thief was hip-this is also the only weakness against theft. (So let's keep it on the lowdown). Very slight play or wobble when in use but nothing to complain about, I've used much worse. Do take the time to register your new rack on the website in case you need repairs in the future. Once assembled let's talk "single rail". This is essential to the smaller footprint but I find that the rail is somewhat crowded. The bikes sit on the rail close to eachother and the pedals and handlebars need to be adjusted to fit without contact. I would have manufactured the wheel cups so that they were sitting a few more inches off of center to allow for some more space between the bikes. The locking swing arms with the clamping hooks only open to about 10 and 2 on the clock instead of 9 and 3 where it should be. So you must lift the heaviest bike over these arms to load it into the inner rail closest to your vehicle. The second video shows the cutie lifting a bike into this spot but cuts away just before it is actually in place, (she must be so strong). So lifting is just something to consider. Using the tire tie down straps on the inside rail is a little clumsy but are a MUST when using the rack, on both sides. Better safe than sorry. The rail offers cable locks at both ends. The length is debateable but serviceable and should not be the only way your bikes are secured. Pro Tip: The keys for both the hitch bar and cable locks must be used for proper function and whatever you do do not lose or misplace these keys or you will be screwed. The smaller footprint lists a fold away feature of this rack but I feel like when it's closed all the way and folded in there is not much difference in the space it takes up. You can travel safely with the rack in either setting. The issue here for me is that the Kuat and the Thule both button up and fold away nicely with a tucked in and finished aesthetic appearance where the Saris is a jumble of cups and hooks. That polished look is missed by me. But again, function over beauty. I am the organizer and leader of a bicycle club in Fort Lauderdale with over 800 members. My peeps always look to me for advice, I like to lead by example and many will follow just what I do-so choosing Saris is an important decision. I may have picked this rack apart with issues I might make changes in but I still chose this rack over many others, that should say something! Last year, as I was in my local bike shop (Cycle Loft, Burlington, MA – go see them) I ended up talking to them about bike racks. I was not in the market at the time for a new bike but had just purchased a used Mazda CX5 and had installed a trailer hitch. My old Yakima rack was (circa 2001) was OK for my old Specialized Crosstrail but I was curious what they would recommend if I bought a carbon bike. They said SuperClamp was the way to go. Fast forward to 2021 and after an 8 week Covid 19 wait, my new Specialized Sirrus 4 arrived. I placed an order on the Saris Website for the SuperClamp and it arrived. There were a couple of manufacturing issues, but the Saris customer service team treated me like their only customer and resolved everything (they are awesome!) The rack is so easy to use and nothing touches the frame so there is no wear and tear on the carbon fiber. I drive an hour or two every week to bike with friends and it has been great to have the SuperClamp. Best rack in the business!OldBostonBiker

PROs – Solid rack. Once bikes are in, they are part of the rack! Nice and tight. Easy to operate. Built in locks are nice. Tilt feature is nice. Cons – Like others say, the rack bounces around and sways. A lot with 2 heavy bikes. Will give you "rack anxiety." So far no issues, but wow. Fenders and rear kickstands can be a problem. Otherwise, really like the rack. Using it on a 2017 Prius Prime. Rack stays on the car, hauls bikes 3x a week or more. 1 bike no worries, 2 bikes, the bouncing is a little more noticeable, and the Prius can feel the sway. Both eBikes, under 60lbs each. Highway hauling doing 75mph is fine. Slow riding to trail head on dirt road is fine, a little anxiety from the bouncing. I suppose a little play is good, it will take some getting used to the bouncing.Rumrunner

We got this 4 place rack because it would hold the weight the ebikes we bought. Once we figured out where to set everything for the 2 ebikes it works. The limiting factor is you can't strap around the battery so it was a process. It's not the easiest to get things in and out of except for the end one but it works and is a great price. Our purchase of the Freedom 4-Bike was timed to coincide with a family cycling trip. We received it a few days before the trip, and decided to practice. Good call! Putting four bikes on the rack for the first time took more than an hour of trial and error and tinkering. Lining up the parts of the rack and the pedals, handlebars, seats and racks of four adult-sized bikes was definitely a three-dimensional puzzle. The rack was great, though, for carrying the bikes securely and steadily on an 850-mile round-trip journey. We ended up getting very good at getting the bikes on and off of the rack in, probably, 5-10 minutes at a go. One person can load four bikes, but it's better to have a second person around to help.Rich

I bought the Saris Freedom 4 Bike rack about a month ago and I am quite impressed with it. I am not very mechanically inclined but I was able to figure out the installation fairly easily, the online videos do help. Once you establish a particular spot for each bike that you carry, the future setup is quite easy. Some previous reviews questioned the use of plastic parts which I thought were quite well made while also keeping the weight down on the rack. Vehicle rides much better by keeping the bikes as close to the bumper/rear of car as possible. Highly recommend it so far!Edward

My mistake – I didn't worry excessively about the quoted weight of the Thule T2, until I assembled it. At 23Kg, it is just too big and heavy for the back of my Tesla Model 3. I believe it is very capable of carrying my two e-bikes very securely, but I have replaced it with a lesser alternative at 16Kg. The T2 appears to be very solidly constructed, and would be ideal for a larger vehicle, especially a larger SUV or ute. For $868 delivered, I was disappointed to find I needed to spend a further $150 on a Thule number plate/light bar, to enable safe, legal carriage of my $40 Aux. I was torn between getting this or one of the big name platform racks for a lot more money, and I ended up giving this one a try. So far, I have put it through several hundred miles of use in Oregon in various conditions (low/high-speed road, gravel, speed bumps, twisty roads/gravel, hilly roads/gravel). Overall: + I really like this rack and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a platform rack. It has most of the features of the high-end racks for a great price. I think this is the best bang for your buck rack at the moment. Pros: + Assembly is simple + Comes with locks (one to secure the rack to the hitch by preventing the removal of the hitch pin, and one to secure the cable lock to the rack) + The tilt-down feature to access the trunk works (2016 Mazda CX-5) + Looks great (the pics show it as all black but it actually has blue trim, which looks great; check out the Rocky Mounts website for accurate pics) + Uses a lockable threaded hitch pin, which prevents most side-to-side sway + The racheting strap for the rear wheels grabs the wheel tightly (vs. the Rocky Mounts SplitRail in which the wheel can bounce around because it is sitting in a giant channel that is designed to hold large wheels; check out pics of the SplitRail to see what I mean) + Each bike platform can be shifted left-to-right to accommodate bikes that hit each other Neutral: * The latch to activate the tilt-down/up feature is located on the bottom of the rack farthest away from bumper (easier to reach). This is better than the racks that have the latch situated between the bumper and the rack because it is easier to get to, but it is a little awkward because it puts you in a position where you're bent over to pull the latch and the bikes swing down towards you. Cons: – While the threaded hitch pin helps prevent side-to-side sway, I think the wedge-style type of the high-end Yakima/Thule brands are better because they prevent side-to-side as well as up-and-down sway. That said, I didn't really notice much sway in my use of the rack but I wanted to list this for someone that might care – The security element of the rack is a separate short cable that you thread through your bikes and then secure to the rack using a lock located between the bumper and the rack. The lock is the same type as the one used to secure the hitch pin. The gauge of the cable is similar to a standard bike cable lock, which is fine for deterrence but I wouldn't trust it in high-theft locations since pretty much all cables are easily cut using bolt cutters. The biggest downside to the cable is that it is too short to thread through both wheels + frame of both bikes. I can only manage to thread it through the frame and one wheel. – Requires a wrench to attach to the hitch. It comes with the wrench but it is something that can get lost. It would be great if Rocky Mounts could use a hand twist system similar to what Yakima/Thule do on their high-end mounts (this would also address any up-and-down sway). That said, this is a small price to pay for a much more affordable rack. – When folding up the rack against the bumper, the rack can actually travel beyond it's locked vertical position and hit your car. This can happen if you pull the latch and lift the rack quickly; the rack won't lock into the vertical position and hit your car). As long as you're careful to make sure the rack locks into its vertical position, you should be fine but it would have been nice if Rocky Mounts put in a metal stopper to prevent accidentsAllister

We have two fatties (a Motobecane and a Farley 5) and I'd been using hitch rack from which the bikes hang. The problem was that the bikes would swing and sometimes work their way out of the top clamp. That's a problem on a highway. This new rack is fantastic. The hitch mount includes a screw-in hitch pin that locks the rack firmly in place. The wheel cradles include velcro bands to secure the tires in place, and the clamps on the vertical pole have pins to stop them from coming loose. The two bikes are held incredibly well. I can even back out of the driveway without dragging the rack or the bikes on the ground. That was another problem with my old hanging rack – the bikes hit the ground when I drove up an incline. For about $150 this is a steal – get it before they are gone.StayAtHomeBob

This bike carrier uses an unlockable M16-2 bolt to secure the rack to the receiver hitch. To prevent theft I found a matching locking bolt at etrailers. The other vulnerability of this carrier is the M16 bolt that secures the two-part main frame together and I am substituting an M16x70mm shoulder bolt with an M12-1.75 thread end and an M12-1.75 locking wheel nut to secure it. Otherwise, the rack is fine for the member price.ralphm

This bike carrier is designed so it can be assembled as a single bike carrier or a 2 bike carrier. I began with it as a single bike carrier and the square tube plugs directly into the receiver without the extension pieces and all that extra weight. also, as a single is several inches lower. I'm pulling a trailer so I need a bifurcator in the receiver . The Lower hole is for an extension and the hitch ball and the upper hole is for the bike rack. I had done this before with the Allen 4 bike carrier. This design supports the wheels rather than hanging the bikes by the frame top tube. with a heavy fat tire , or worse an ebike this is much easier to load the bike on. Lift the front wheel into its wheel support loop, then lift the back wheel onto it support loop. with the frame hanging design the entire bike weight has to be lifted at once. Also my ebike is a step through, so there is no upper tube to hang it from. tThis carrier is rated for 200# so that is enough to carry two 70# ebikes with capacity to spare. This carrier is 55% the cost of the Amazon versions and has more weight capacity. The one down side is the plastic topped "wing bolts". cannot be tightened enough by hand to secure the wheel support loops in place or the inverted "vee" frame holder. This 71 year old had to put a wrench on to wing to tighten them adequately, and the plastic wing was obviously distressed. It didn't break. Might have been better to just leave the hex bolt heads exposed.rway227

Good: Looks stylish (my opinion, subjective) Holds the bike very well if used correctly. Fast bike install ONCE you get used to it. Bad: If you don't have a Thule set of cross bars you need to buy T Bolts for your model unless you use the over clamps. The over clamps can and probably will scratch your cross bars. The T bolts for my car that Thule recommended had to come from a dealer in Europe and could not be shipped to the US. I will keep looking and hope to find them. I am using the over clamps at the moment that are all metal, for a metal on metal fit. I am not sure why the insides are not lined with a non marring material like rubber. It is possible for the two bars to not click together which could lead to a less secure holding of the front wheel. I double checked and found this condition and reinstalled. Very important to listen for the click. If a person is in a hurry or in a loud area its possible to install the bike incorrectly. Best to visually check to assure the pin is in the groove/ Takes a little getting used to. Not intuitive. Easy once you get used to it. Not the easiest to get your bike into but to be fair This is my first roof rack. My SUV is not tall but I need a step ladder. The lock for the bike to the rack needs to be purchased separately. The lock for rack to the cross bar needs to be purchased separately.By Pat

Since, we have Aeroblade/Wingbar Evo bars for our vehicles already, we didn't want to go to a hitch rack. We were originally looking at the drop wheel roof racks, but we ended up choosing this one instead, since we don't have quick release axles on our bikes. It was really easy to install the bike racks onto the bars – they slide onto the bars with the T-nuts and then put back on the end caps. We found them really quick & efficient to load/unload bikes onto the Upride racks & locking them to the rack. We drove almost 2000 kms in sun, rain, and headwind with 2 Upride racks and 2 gravel bikes attached on this trip on a sedan.JoL99

Unless it's a classic men's ten speed style frame, the closest bike in will rub on the pivot mechanism. First two bikes I tried would have been horribly scratched up first use. Not listed on the box, but at the end of the manual, is there is nothing to support the bottom and keep it from swinging. They tell you to use a strap, which could be done effectively, but don't include one. The anti-wobble feature is more wishful thinking than real help. If you used it for two bikes it would be decent, but you didn't buy a two bike carrier. Disappointing as this is a very well built unit with a great powder coat paint job.John

I absolutely love this bike rack. Its great to just leave on your hitch and not have to deal with the constant putting it on and taking it off. One pin allows you to pull the rack back and open your teunk in seconds. I’ve been carrying 3 bikes on it for two years and no sign of deterioriating. Light rust that i could easily sand and spray paint. I had one of the pins break off, bit thats likely my fault for not leaving it installed. The ONE issue I have with the rack is that it only has one bolt for install and it moves just a smidge andcmakes a noise whenever your driving ove bumps and such. Make a new version with TWO bolts and tje bike rack is perfectly sound:)ChitownChef

I bought this in July 2020 and was hoping for something economical and sturdy. I definitely got what I wanted. The rack is only rated at 100 pounds, but I was able to fit three adult bikes with no problems. There are alot of comments here about the hitch being wobbly, but mine is sturdy with minimal movement. Tighten the bolts folks! I thoroughly inspected the rack after our trips and found no crack in the welds or bending of any parts. Someone else mentioned that the rack had no straps, but the rack I purchased had all three straps that had plenty of length to secure the adult bikes. We are happy with our purchase and would recommend it for the price alone.dpat3537

The NV 2.0 is the top of the line for tray-style racks. It's loaded with features and quality-made. I'm extremely happy with this product. The price is about 30% higher than Thule or Yakima products in this category, but it is very difficult to compare other tray-style racks to the NV 2.0. The construction, materials, and finish provide a longer-lasting product. But it's the features that set this rack apart from the competitors including: – Smooth action: All of the parts move with precision. No catching, clunking, sticking, or grinding! – The integrated locks. Pop the existing rear cover off your existing Kuat NV Base 2.0, slap this 2-Bike Add-on with two EASILY accessed bolts and in less than 8 minutes you're on the road with the entire family. I greatly dislike driving around with a 4-Bike platform rack when 90% of my riding is solo/double, so this easy on/off solution really sold me. Between me and my friends, I have used nearly every rack brand on the market and Kuat might build the best aftermarket ANYTHING, not just racks, that I have ever purchased for my vehicles. I doubt I'll ever have to exercise my lifetime warranty, but if I do need to call them for any purpose, be prepared for some pretty awesome customer service. Excellent lightweight rack. I bought thinking in functionality and easy to use. It met my expectations. I will add a couple of cons and pros to why you want this bike rack. Pros It fits well: It's versatile. It can be used in 1.25' or 2.00 Easy to carry around: If you do not want to have it installed, it folds excellent to keep in your trunk. I have a small car, and it fits well. Good stability: I tested on the freeway. No issues. My bike is 28 pounds. I did not try for more than one bike or heavier bikes. After reading reviews and watching countless videos on single-bike racks I settled on the Kuat Transfer V2 because of the simple, thoughtful design, compact size, and low profile that doesn't interfere with the backup camera or rear hatch access. The rack was easy and quick to assemble and has excellent fit and finish. Installed into the hitch receiver with the 2" adapter, it is tight and sturdy. Loading and unloading the bike is a cinch, and the tilt away to allow opening the back hatch is perfect. Did I mention thoughtful design? To release the hitch for tilting or folding up there's a foot pedal rather than a hand release – so convenient. With the bike (an aluminum frame hard tail, about 30-35 pounds) loaded and clamped down it is rock solid. There is no sway or wobble and very little bounce even over hard bumps or holes. I'm really impressed with the looks, function, and quality of this rack and recommend giving it serious consideration.Craig

Took it on a 5 hour drive with a 50 lb E-Bike on it. Might have shook the tires loose. Had some locking tire skewers installed at a bike shop. SInce the tires are the only part locked onto the rack, it could have made the tires loose. I'm only minusing a star from bad design on the hitch pin area. they have an adapter that makes its fit into a 2 inch receiver. That causes the hole to be off center and can only use a 1/4 thick locking pin to be used. Also at this price they could supply a locking hitch pin so someone doesn't just walk off with both the bike and the rack.Wilson

I just returned from taking two Bee Cool bikes from Wilmimgton NC to Asheville and back. 10 hours and used the Elevate hitch platform. I used it on the back of my Lexus NX. The bikes are 162lbs together and I was pleasantly surprised how well the ride.Michael

Works great with both e bikes with fat tires and regular tire bikes. HD construction. Only draw back is the hitch bolt is a screw bolt 15/16 head which has to be tightened to car receiver. Could not put a locking slip through one.Luis

Package was severely damaged upon delivery. Missing a part due to torn package. Assembly instructions were vague (hand drawn, blow-up that was not very clear). No instructions on how to use it with a bicycle – pretty much trial and error. Quality of the product was good – heavy-duty metal. Would recommend with reservations.gjheimes

Well built bike rack that is not flimsy. Securely holds bikes and does not round the frames keeping bikes from moving around. Highly recommended. The only fault I have is to use the channels obbmyncrossbadsbyiyjhdurling

Super sold build. I like that it is a full 2” post to the receiver hitch. Easy load and unload of bikes. Two full suspension bikes are solid as a rock on this rack. . Locking cable is okay but could be beefed up in my opinion. Rack does not tilt down which might be a problem for some people, but I prefer less complexity and think this rack is more robust compared to similar racks with the tilt down feature. All and all I would highly recommend this rack.Phillip

For the price, this rack is extremely well built, and has some great features. I love the easily accessible tilt handle and the solid way it "clicks" into place. I added a $10 hitch tightener to help stabilize the up/down movement, and have full confidence in this rack for long trips. So far I haven't scraped it on anything, and am happy with the high positioning of the bikes. The lock mechanism is a little finicky, but seems as secure as what the other brands offer. The black finish and appearance of this rack looks great for the price point. Overall, I'm super pleased and highly recommend.Andrew A

Unfortunately for us, we have a small 2019 SUV and although this product supported the weight of our e-bikes (~60-Lbs. each) perfectly, it was too long that it leaned really low on the backend. We even got pulled over by a police officer because we didn't have any markers or lights for an accessory sticking out past 4-feet behind our vehicle!? He recommended us putting reflectors or some kind of reflective tape, so motorists behind us could gauge the extension from our ramp? We had to return it and were charged a restocking fee by Discount Ramps (per their policy, so be sure what you order is correct for your vehicle and application or you'll pay to try. Also, it was a horrible experience trying to get it sent back! Awful experience on the return.)John

My sister and I both have an electric bike that each weighs 65 lbs. My old bike rack was not able to tolerate that much weight. As most of the bike racks require you to lift the bike onto the rack which was not something I could do especially for the back bike. This carrier is super easy to get the bike up on with the ramp and is plenty sturdy enough for both the bikes. I love it!JW

i use this carrier for two E-Bikes. it is heavy to work with Approximately 80Lbs. Nicely designed and easy to assemble. It would be nice if it could configure for a one bike carrier as well. the anti-tilt collar is a clever design.W.Peter

The bike rack is easy to assemble and seems quite sturdy. It seems to hold the bikes quite well and I like that the tires are not spitting in the wind. I have not yet Driven down the road on a long trip with it, so my comments are my initial reaction.Paul

Bought this a few weeks ago but the first time I tried to install it on my 2015 Suburban it was difficult to get the security cotter pin inserted into the hitch receiver bolt, due to the limited amount of space that the Suburban hitch received has to work with. After realizing that there was no way that my wife could install it by herself, decided to return the carrier. Also, the security provided by this carrier was limited at best, and the strapping system was not sufficient on its own to keep the manufacturer from feeling the need to include an additional loose strap for the user to wind in and around the posts and the bike frames to provide a second level of security to keep the bikes in place while being carried.RM Biker

This is a solid heavy duty rack. I have 2 step through e-bikes that fit very well. I had to also get cross bars since my frames are step through. I can mount the rack and load the bikes in well under 5 minutes. You need to be able to lift and handle 50lbs to load e-bikes on the rack. There are no locks on this rack. I also purchased a receiver pin lock and a cable pad lock to secure the bikes. All in, I still spent a lot less than some of the high end racks with locks.Ken

Rated for 200lbs, tire mounts BENT holding a single 60lb bike on one 120mile drive from Phoenix to Tucson. Cheap foam coating on frame support ground through entirely and DESTROYED my brand new $2000 bike frame before i even got to ride it. Please please dont buy this product. Its really unstable, 100% not safe for anywhere near what its rated and could destroy your bike like it did mine. The tire mounts are IMPOSSIBLE to tighten safely. They will tip and bend and move. Photos show destruction of the rack. The bike frame is being repaired by a welder to fill the gouge in the frame. Im both upset and angry and am contacting the company for compensation as walmart would only refund the rack itselfKel

Ordered this rack for a bike trip with friends. Sadly i cannot comment of the rack itself. The package delivered to my porch and looked as if it had been shoved out of an airplane from 10,000 feet. The mangled package had a strong pungent Moldy odor coming from it. We tore the soft spongy cardboard open on the end to peer inside. The inside of the box had spots of black nasty goo on it and the bike rack itself was covered with patches of rust. I find it hard to believe that someone at the warehouse actually sent this package out. They must have known this stinky mangled rusty package would be immediately returned. You need to step up the game wally, I will be re ordering this rack, but this time it will be from someone else who's name starts with the letter A.mpbjr57

I bought this to replace a Thule 908 EuroClassic which I've owned for 12 years. The reason I upgraded was because of the Easyfold's portability and ease of storage. The old carrier is still working perfectly and I don't expect the Easyfold to be any different. Apart from portability and storage, the other advantage is the ratchet style wheel straps which make securing your bikes even easier. The one downside (and one of the reasons it's easier to store) is that the the upright which carries the clamps is slightly smaller, so you have to think carefully about how you present the bikes. Not a huge problem but worth some consideration. Overall, very pleased with a quality product. Delivered on time. Halford's, at the time of purchase, were offering the carrier at the lowest price that I could find on the net.Threlkeld

I bought this bike rack three weeks ago based on how easy it looked to mount on the car. I am usually quite sceptical about manufacturers' videos, but in this case it was spot on. The rack is compact to store, easy to carry and is securely on the car in less than a minute. Getting the bikes on is just as easy and they are very securely held in place. The tilt function to allow access to the boot is really useful making this one of my best purchases for a long time! There is also no need to actually fix the number plate onto the light board as it is held in place with clips making it easy to change if someone wants to borrow it (and they will!) Buying on the Halfords website was easy and delivery fast. Very happy. I was also please with the number plate service at my local branch.Ludders70

Very clever but don't be fooled by all the features in the video. Neither the loading ramp or storage bag is included in the not insignificant purchase price. Also bear in mind that although it states 7 pin electrical connection it is actually a 13 pin connector that only uses 7 pins so if you have an older style 7 pin connector on your vehicle you will need an adaptor. Other than that it is very good. The clamp that fixes it to the tow ball is lockable as are the three clamps that hold the bikes in place, all with a common key. The tilt function is very handy so that you can still access the boot when the carrier is in place. It all fitted easily to our 2008 Ford C-Max, it's just a shame that the storage bag and ramp isn't included. Halfords didn't even sell the bag at the time of our purchase.MrC299

The pinnacle of ingenuity, well designed, solid, practical, easy to use, easy assembly ….. only qualities. A great product which, once folded, does not take up too much space. I added the ramp, an additional item to order, so that my wife can easily raise her electric bike on the support. This piece folds and cleverly stores under the bike rack. This is a great quality product. Easy to fit and ticks all of the boxes for easy of mounting, lights, number plate and e-bike weight rated. The only issue is that our dual suspension eMTBs wouldn't fit. The support U bar at the back just isn't high enough to allow the clamps to get to the cross bars of the bikes which is the only place to clamp an eMTB as the rear suspension and battery in the down tube prohibit clamping anywhere else. Superb build quality, light weight and easy to install. Integrated lights and indicators work well and look great. My main issue with this and many other Thule racks is the frame attachment mechanism. Unusually shaped frames are not easy to secure and adding a second bike simply compounds the problem. The attachment arms would be more useful if they were variable in length and able to be secured more easily to very wide down tubes (e-bikes for example). Once mounted and the attachment jigsaw is solved… the bike is securely locked on and held firmly with minimal unwanted movement.Murray R.

This is the improved version and Yakima has solved the bike movement problem and improved the stiff handle release. Totally enjoying it as this platform bike rack do not scratch the paint on our bikes and is easy to load on and off the car with its lightweight aluminium structure. No regrets!jolenechan

After researching hitch racks I decided to purchase the Yakima DrTray over the Thule that has been rated #1. The thing I was concerned about is the weight of the racks when removing from the vehicle and the ease of changing the positions of the rack when on the vehicle and when the bikes are on the rack. All my other roof rack items are Yakima and they have worked flawlessly over the years. I can only say that the DrTray met all the concerns with its ease on loading, positioning and removing from the vehicle. I would highly recommend the Yakima DrTray to anyone who is looking to purchase a quality hitch rack.Telemanvt

Solid hitch rack. The only issue I have is the rear wheel movement. If you have a long wheelbase the bike tends to move back when vehicle is moving over bumps. They have a updated revised version to alleviate those issues. I wish I would have known and waited. The remote release to tilt bikes is difficult at times but you must move the handle while squeezing the release to move it. The integrated cables are nice but not theft proof.Awkward Geek Cyclist

This is a fantastic purchase. I was contemplating to purchase some used high end brand like Thule or Saris, however when I went to Walmart today to purchase a car battery I notice these were sitting on clearance. So, I decided to do a little background review check and immediately saw all the rave reviews so I had to purchase. At 59.99 + Tax this was a STEAL! Anyway, product had all the ease to mount and dismount when needed. Like some of the other reviewers had stated the locking pin that came along with it is a little over-sized. However, I had already owned another pin so it fit just perfectly. Anyway, if you see this at your local Walmart for sale, and you are looking for a bike carrier for your SUV, don't pass this up.ctrangoblue

Let me start by saying that this rack is better than the standard hitch rack with the two arms that stick out for you to hang your bikes on. I have mountain bikes and arm style racks are like trying to solve a puzzle when loading the bikes. This rack is a little better from that stand point but still requires head scratching to get the pedals, seats and handle bars lined up. For this reason I give it 3 stars. I thought this rack would be an alternative to some $400 racks I have seen and with some modifications and some head scratching it could make a nice rack. PROS: 1. A lot of rack for the money. 2. Buy it online and pick up at the store as the online price is $30 less than in store. Why they won’t price match is beyond me. So you buy online, they take it from the store shelf and move it to a service desk and you walk in and pick it up all in a few hours’ time. CONS: 1. The locking nut to install the rack is mounted to a spring vs being welded to the inside of the draw bar. A pain to get it lined up with the thru hole to install the pin. 2. The V bars will go on too far, past the pin hole alignment and will get wedged in place, then you have to pull hard to get them lose to pull them back to get the pin holes to align. 3. The 1st bike to go on, the one between your car and the V, is difficult because there is very little room between the car and the rack. You are going to scratch the car with the pedals and/or handle bars. 4. You have to move the bikes straight on/off the hooks otherwise the hooks will try to twist the spokes and damage them. 5. 2nd bike is a bit of a puzzle get it to nest up to the 1st bike, but easier than a standard arm type rack. 6. 3rd bike goes on easiest as the draw bar extends away from the 2nd bike. Probably the nicest feature of the rack. 7. 4th bike goes on like the 2nd. 8. Now that the bikes are loaded, you have to slide the 3rd and 4th bike into the 1st two on the sliding draw bar. You’ll have problems getting the 2nd and 3rd bikes to nest together. The sliding draw bar has to go in too far before you can screw down the clamp, nesting the bikes too close to each other. 9. The sliding draw bar clamp doesn’t get tight and allows the rack to wiggle around excessively. This can be fixed by trimming the bottom of the plastic handle to let it screw down farther. 10. The foam rubber bumpers are not long enough. Put them high and you protect the fork on one bike, but then they are too high to protect the lower rear triangle on the mating bike. You can get longer foam at a hardware store.Rackless

This rack was a much better value than the $300+ Four bike rigs on the market. I had it shipped to site through the Walmart Ap, the box was damaged pretty badly but all the pieces were there. It took roughly 30 minutes to assemble, install, and adjust. In the photo you'll see three bikes on it, the fourth kid is still on a tricycle. Can't wait for our family to grow into this rack. The best part is, you can remove the back section and use it as a two bike rig. There is a bit of trail and error to fit your bike, and the neighboring bike. My bike has a rack on the back, I had to adjust the rear mount to clear the support bar. My daughters bike has training wheels and full fenders, that would be a challenge on any bike rack. Carrier looks really solid in the rear view mirror, not much motion.Jonathan
