The sharpener is very good considering I hadn't regularly sharpened my Henkel knives very thoroughly prior to purchase, and they had gotten somewhat dull. I find the knives are sharp immediately after sharpening but require a touch-up sharpening every 2 weeks or so (I use my knives almost every day). My Grandfather used to sharpen my knives and they seemed to stay sharp for months; but, this is an easy to use method of keeping a fine edge as long as you keep on top of it.Joshua
While I do not cook often, I do insist on sharp cutlery when I use it. I sharpened my set of knives at the beginning of each year with the Chef's Choice, and keep them sharp in between by hand-honing them as needed.. There were no problems until last week, when the far right razor sharpener popped out, fortunately on the floor, not in my eye. With difficulty, I retrieved it before the dog did. I replaced the blade, carefully, but again it popped out. Sadly, one of my knives remained dull even after having repeated the sequence, as directed. The per-use cost of the device is now way too high, as I deem it unsafe to try again. Until the latest use, I was very satisfied, thus the middling rating. I received this sharpener, used it on all of my kitchen knives except for my most expensive ones….its not great. If you are a serious home cook or chef, this thing won't be suitable. My cutco knives that I need sharpened are still sharper than all the ones I used on this sharpener, so I'm glad I held off on sharpening those. The knives will cut….but they dont do that great on veggies. Considering I have to either ship off my good ones or spend hours using a stone on them, I wish I had not made this purchase! One is a really hard blade and it took about 6 pulls through on both sides of the course side and about 5 pulls through the fine side and it shaved the hair on the back of my hand. Wow this sharpener is of great quality and I used it on some older garden tools and worked great. Now I don't have to hassle to bring blades to a hardware store and wait for a week or two because they are too busy to do it right away. I was able to bring back a 50 year old Swiss Army Knife that I got in 1970 and re-use again like new! Too bad it does'nt do the serrated [jagged] edge knives so I'll have to get another sharpener to do that and I would;ve gladly paid a few dollars more for that feature added onto it. But for what blades/knives it does do is worth the $20.00 so I can't really complain and the saving the aggravation of having to send blades out to get sharpened or having a second blade on hand. Most stores today will sell you a tool that is hardly ever sharp so you have to get it sharpened to use it and having this baby on hand settles that problem. This Device is exactly what I needed. I have been able to sharpen quite well freehand on bench stones for a long time now but I have long wanted a device that eliminates difference of angle. This sharpener locks the blade in position time after time so every stroke of the stones are at the same angle. Some knives are hard to keep still in the vice and smaller ones have to be positioned as high in the vice as possible or the stones contact the vice, but for the most part I love this thing.raymonmaso5
I really like using this wicked edge sharpener better than the edge pro or the lansky setups which I also own. I can set any blade angle I want and I can match existing angles on my knives. The diamond sharpening paddles are compatible with all steel types including the new exotic materials. It was the most expensive system so far to operate though. I really think the owner of the company needs to lower it 100 dollars. The extra paddles are also very high priced if you want to add different grit sizes. not impressed, just received this sharpener. read the directions which are simple. I tried to put an edge on several knives, was not able to get the sharpener to stop the knives from being dull. i ran each knife in each groove 10 times parallel to the table without exerting pressure. After the fourth groove being used, the knives were as dull as originally found. This sharpener makes the moise but does not sharpen.Abjad
After reading all of the negative reviews and some positive, I decided to try this sharpener. The cost is low and Walmart's return policy is a no-brainer. In comparison to my manual sharpener, this electric sharpener is awesome. I'm sure there are better (and more expensive) sharpeners out there, but this one is great for my needs. I sharpened about 30 knives in about 20 minutes, and they've never been more sharp! I agree with other reviews that this sharpener lacks power, but as long as you align the blade correctly in the slot, this won't be an issue. It may, however, be an issue as to how long it holds up. I found it more productive to slip the blade in the slot and pull it through with no downward pressure other than its own weight. This kept the speed of the motor constant and allowed the blade to align itself. Both cheap and expensive knives were sharpened perfectly. Many were serrated (including the so called permanently sharpened "Ginsu" knives…ha!). This was not a problem, although with repeated sharpenings I can foresee the serrations being honed away. I'm very happy with the overall quality and price!pmikej
