Best Electric Lawn Mower Wirecutter (2024 Update)

Just took possession yesterday 2/21/21. I have a small lot in Florida with a lot of river Oaks that shed their leaves (about 2" oval, thick) about mid February. PIA to rake up, especially if you have rotator cuff problems and back problems. I bought this because another reviewer said it worked like a vacuum cleaner / mower. I TOTALLY AGREE. The mower is light weight and maneuvers easily. It did very well mowing and picking up leaves in the 3rd position. In taller St Augustine grass, the 2nd position would bog down and it would be very slow going, so 3rd height is better. Slightly damp leaves in shaded areas took 2 passes (one forward, 2nd backing up) Getting used to the cord management took a bit of getting used to, but once I got the hang of it, pretty easy. (I have never owned a corded mower before.) Always mow away from the outlet source, preferably at a ~90 degree angle to your outlet so cord follows/trails you. A 75 ft 14/3 gauge extension cord worked great. I'm sure a cordless would be easier, but with the corded, you always have 10 amps, 120V of power. Bag works very well, held more than I thought it would! When it starts getting full, the front wheels tend to get harder to keep down on the grass and it's harder to push. It pays to check! The bag is a bit tricky to remove when full due to weight, easy to reattach when empty. And it vacuums better with an empty bag. I was VERY happy with how well it vacuumed up the Oak leaves! And the grass clippings left on the lawn were nearly none existant. Nothing for the dog to track in! My neighbors were impressed also with the job it did. One thought it merely vacuumed the leaves and was amazed that it cut the grass too! So this year I cleaned up the leaves for about 1/2 the cost of having them raked and in 1/2 the time. Easy and quick assembly. The mower works well and is easy to maneuver. Even my 11yr old can push up the small hill in our backyard. Bagging the grass is easy with a decent sized bag. And, you can even mow without the bag attached without getting clogged or large grass clumps. The only issue is the battery life, but this is my third cordless electric mower (each from a different manufacturer) and that seems to be a constant. I plan on ordering a second set of batteries to be able to easily finish my lawn in a single afternoon. I would and have recommended this mower to my friends and family.Green2022

The lawn mower worked fine for the front lawn, but unfortunately while doing the back lawn, the bag was Not catching any of the grass clippings, & the ground rear flap managed to get caught in the blades. I Do Not recommend this product, comfort grip handles are Not comfortable & mower is very difficult to push.C Henze

Bought this mower and the display in the store says it is a 2 in 1. Bag and mulcher??? There is no plug so grass comes flying out of the back with no bag. I emailed Black and Decker and they said it does mulch. So how does it work??? Went to the store and they no help as well Black and Decker are not responding when I resent email inquiring once again!!!ktgod

I had never owned or even tried an electric mower before so we were very eager to try this one out. It was a little assembly from the box (pictured) but it did not take long to get it up and ready to go. This is very convenient since you don’t get gas and you don’t have to worry about running out or going to get it when you need to mow your lawn. We have a smaller yard, so the cord isn’t an issue. We just needed to invest in a good extension cord, and you’re good to go. My husband enjoys the mower and states it is easy to push and navigate around the yard. It’s very inexpensive for a mower and a great value. We might be full electric mower owners now, and not going back! The quality is great and I highly recommend this product. The easy grip bar is also nice because it makes it comfortable, and not hot to the touch. It stores Nicely and we are quite happy with the product.its also environmentally friendly and doesn’t give off that gas smell that the typical mower does. 3 years ago we moved into a house from the city… big mistake… but I had to mow my new to me 1/3 acre with something… I found this beauty on the line for a bit over a hundo.. I figured if it wasn’t good it wasnt a huge investment… I was never a fan of gas mowers, electric mowers or mowing for that matter… our new house is in the hill towns of Westchester, what a pain.. my front yard is only good for 2 things… growing weeds in the summer and sledding in the winter…This little green devil is light.. I figured on a hill ya don’t want heavy…so true… Oh, and it cuts like a trained assassin! Neighbors ask what kind of mower does such clean work.. And I have abused this thing, accidentally sent it down my back hill careening over rocks and over a 3 foot wall… I cursed while taps played in my head .. but she was still good…not a crack and started right up… It mulches more stuff than I should let it…I’m positive I’m breaking those rules. This year I bought a replacement blade cause I bent the orig on a big rock…I have a lot of rocks…and stumps, too… I hit them … never on purpose…sometimes it’ll stop the motor…but she starts right back up again and again and again…. Positives – inexpensive, light weight, tough and a great cutter / mulcher. Negatives – stupid cord … takes getting used to but way better than gas for my porpoises! I am thinking of buying another one and keep this one just for mulching. That’s why I was on this site today… not to write a review…Grass Cutterman

I wanted to wait to review this until I'd used it a few times. Just finished my 6th lawn mow of the summer and I'm loving this mower. It's light weight and has a handle so I can lift it with one hand to put it away! I was very excited about that because gas mowers are too heavy and awkward to lift. I can also turn it over to clean out any stuck grass without worrying about gas or oil leaking out the top like with gas mowers. I only have to stop maybe once every half hour to check and see if there's grass build up on the bottom, unless I use the bag, which I only did the very first time when my lawn was overgrown. Using the bag definitely added to how long it took me to mow, but it was worth it the first time to have a cleared lawn. There was minimal assembly required, which was nice. The size is pretty good for my needs, though it takes me about 2.5 hours to mow mine and my neighbor's yard (recently decided to split that in half and do mine one week, hers the next in an alternating pattern). I use a 150 ft cord that I borrowed from my father so I have decent range and only have to plug into my neighbors house to do her front yard. I like the height sizes this mower has and it switches sizes in less than a second. So easy! It's somewhat quieter than a gas push mower. And my favorite feature of all: How easy it is to start. No pulling and pulling on a cord until my arm hurts. Just press a button and pull the lever on the handle.Louisa B

We have always had electric lawn mowers . Don’t like the fuss and mess with gas mowers. Time to get another mower , saw this one. Great price , it preforms wonderfully. My husband loves it ! I bought the lawn trimmer several years ago when WORX first came out with them. I'm now in the market to buy an electric lawnmower. But in looking at the WORX brand it seems they are selling Ferraris to a Chevy market. The price of the lawnmowers is just ridiculous and way more expensive than any of the other brands on the market. It sucks because I would have liked to buy a mower since I like the trimmer so much and they have the same battery system. But, I'll have to go with a less expensive choice. (WORX lowest end mower is $50 more than comparable models and doesn't even include any batteries or charger, when theirs does! WORX then wants to charge you $120 more for the batteries.David1200

Had an older Worx battery operated mower that was given to me already very used. I loved it. After 2 years, the battery was pretty much dead and I found out they didn’t make that battery anymore. So I had to upgrade to a new mower with the new battery system. I was frustrated but was pleased that they gave a discount on a new mower and I started to get excited thinking about a new mower with (hopefully) more power and longer mow time due to upgraded batteries! But alas, I was disappointed. I love the lightness and maneuverability of this little mower for my small urban yard but the mow time is very limited. Doesn’t seem to be much better than my old battery! Disappointed in that aspect. Would still recommend, as I like the concept and the weight of the machine.SarahKCMO

Purchased 40v MAX and loving it's performance on my 60' x 60' yard. Using mulcher presently and haven't used bag collector as of yet. Cuts short and yard grass clumps in spots so needed help in ability to keep from wearing me out by using my weedeater only. With yard cutting charges going up I decided to do what one of my neighbors does…. maintain my own yard. Being 70 yrs old and my sister says a stubborn streak…I also like health benefits. My blood pressure has gone down and Dr lowered one of the three BP meds I have taken for yrs. Trim perimeter with my WORK 20v weedeater and the 20-25 minutes to do so allows me to take a break and continue or finish the job tomorrow. I started building my stamina by one weedeater trimming of 20-25 minutes. Next day the same routine of weedeating. My neighbor commented on what a great job my WORX 40v mower does on my yard. I can fold handle down and clean then slide under my tiny dining table that has two pop out leafs. Sooo thrilled with both purchases and this is my second weedeater from WORX yrs ago. You can definitely benefit in many ways from WORX products. I'm widowed so needed something I could carry into my home athat I purchased little over a year ago. This little battery powered lawnmower is the little engine that couldn't. I bought it because I moved into an upper flat and as tenants we are required to cut the grass and there was no mower provided. To save a few bucks I ordered the Sunny Joe from Walmart, put it together pretty easily, but the grass was too long for this tiny mower. The grass catcher filled up after only a couple of passes and the battery lasted about fifteen minutes before needing to be charged for several hours. It's taking me several days to cut the smallest patch of lawn, between work and other obligations. Three tries and my grass still isn't finished and I feel like an idiot every time I go out to try again. It's in my opinion that if your lawn is very small and the grass is very short that it can be handy, but for a longer grass and a bigger yard it only serves to irritate and disappoint.Brian

Garbage!! They claim you can get up to 10,000 sq. ft. per charge. First time out of the box, I assembled and fully charged the unit. After less than 1000 ft., 1/10 of what they claim, the mower went dead. And this wasn't nice, thick spring grass. It was August dried-out thin brown grass after weeks of little rain. So I had to recharge it 4-5 hours to finish my tiny Chicago front and back yards (about 1200 sq.ft. total). I waited a week, recharged it fully and it did the same thing – about 1000 sq. ft. period, then dead. Not only that, but you have to WATCH the charger because even though this is 2021. their charging system doesn't shut itself off when the battery is fully charged. And it WILL overcharge the battery and burn it out. Even at full speed, it bogs down quickly with very little grass. And there is no way to lock the motor in running, so you can continuously cut grass. You have to hold the handle in all the time and with just a 14 inch cut path, you're going to spend a LOT longer mowing your yard. My hand actually started cramping up. The grass bag is very small so you will make many trips, even with a small yard, to empty the bag. Everything, including the wheels, is cheap plastic. And I won't even go into how bad their customer service is. A bunch of con men literally trying to talk you into an upgrade after you try to return your current, defective brand-new model. It's light enough all right, but spend your money on a REAL electric mower. A friend of mine has a comparably priced WORX mower and he's happy with it.M

I was not to sure at first about buying this mower, looked kind of cheap, looks like a turtle. After using it for a year Iam totally impressed!!!!! This mower is light weight can push one handed easy, battery lasts more than 1 1/2 hrs, cuts excellent. If you hit thick grass it automatically increases speed of blade. It’s so light it pushes effortlessly. I would definitely recommend this mower, it is only 14 inches wide so I would not use on a huge lawn.. I also use it for trimming. Note: when I first got this mower the push button switch quite working, called sun joe they had me send it in, with in a couple days sun joe sent me a new mower, what great service. I bought this mower at the beginning of Spring and used it all Summer. I have a very small yard as most new-build houses have these days, but was still concerned as my grass is very thick. In doing (a great amount of) research on battery powered mowers, it seems like weight is as important as power. This little thing has both! It does feel like a toy at times being made of nearly all plastic, but it does a fantastic job. I typically mulch, but the bagging works great, too. Sometimes you do have to go over a line here and there to get it to mulch completely, but no different from the gas mowers I've had in the past. I am super happy with this mower! I leave it on Turbo and get 3 complete cuts from one charge on my small lawn. I also bought the trimmer, and just bought the snow blower – all using the same battery packs. If you are on the fence or comparing other products, I highly recommend this mower, it does a great job!Mobado

I have to agree with all the positive reviews I read before buying. We already had Worx hedge clipper, blower, and edger, and found them very well-built and useful, so it wasn't too hard a decision. But after a mowing apiece, may wife and I independent thought the best word to describe the mower is "sweet." So lightweight, easy to maneuver, and quiet. We have a small yard, so battery life will never be an issue. But we also have a big tree with a ton of surface roots in our backyard, and the Worx is much easier to mow without fear of hacking into one of them. My wife prefers to mulch teh grass and leave it, but I was amazed at how well the grass catcher worked, having used them all my life. Also, how easy it was to put it on and off, and insert the plug you use when mulching. Oh, and the ease of changing the height is very well designed. Highly recommended.uhclem

I was in the market for a new mower and having previous history with a Worx Trimmer/Edger I decided to give this a try. Right out of the box I was pleasantly surprised with the design, features, and how light it was. I must admit I was concerned that it would take hours to complete my yard given this was not a gas-powered mower, especially after it died halfway thru my initial use. I recharged the batteries and was able to complete my first cut, I do need to tell you my grass was pretty tall at the time. The following cuttings, twice so far, I have been able to cut my yard on a single charge using ECO. I am happy with this purchase, would recommend it, and have since added a new trimmer to my wishlist (mine was damaged in a hurricane). Now all I need to do is hand this over to the kids and I can supervise!TGThx

I purchased this mower in February 2021. I appreciate the ease of use and not having to buy gas. I remove my battery and recharge every time as was advised by the store where purchased and have had no issue with battery performance. I can mow my lawn and edge and then mow my sisters lawn without recharging, My issue with this mower is that it leaves rows of uncut grass like other reviews have mentioned. Additionally, it will not vacuum up debris of the sidewalk or leaves and other things that might be on the grass. I tried mowing twice in opposite directions but that did not completely solve the problem. In discussing with a friend who refurbishes gas lawn mowers he suggested the problem was the twist in the blade that does not create enough suction to pull up the grass to be cut or pick up other debris from the lawn or sidewalk. After examining the blade on my old gas lawn mower and comparing with the Ego blade he was seeming correct. Mowed my lawn this week with old (18Years) gas and bingo; completely even cut and cleaned up edging debris. I am not hearing Ego has a solution and I am about ready to sell my Ego on the used market.twente22

I had a lot of expectations for the EGO, as it was replacing a 7.5 horse gas mower that had given stalwart service for over two decades. Short story: I was underwhelmed by the EGO. Specifically, it will not do *anything* with pine needles, even these days when there are so few on the ground. Won't mulch 'em, won't bag 'em…. Now from the description on Amazon, I thought that the mower I purchased (LM2133) came with the "high lift" upper blade in the box. Instead, the LM2130 that was shipped came only with the 'normal' upper blade installed. Maybe the high lift blade can deal with pine needles…dunno…. Oh, and one of the little hub caps was broken right out of the box….72Rover

Disappointed that the high lift blade isn't included to balance the mulch blade. Seems like these would be the two end of the spectrum… One high lift to bag and one mulch blade to mulch. Although it has the torque it seems like the RPM of the blade could be higher. I often find a strip of grass that is to cut as well (like a mohawk) so I have to overlap my cutting lanes. Also disappointed that there still isn't a way for the user to boost or increase the RPM proactively. I can see I'm approaching thicker/taller grass… Instead the mower has to begin slowing down before the motor boosts the power. Really disappointed that the select cut isn't backwards compatible. However the batteries have been doing okay. The one that's kinda dying quickly is from 2016. I really hope Lowes properly recycles them when I drop them off. I'd really like to see EGO offer a direct mailing address to recycle… perhaps even with a small rebate for recycling or credit towards a new battery.Soccerguy243

Bought the Pro 80v 21"lawn mower from Lowes last month. Read and follow the user manual instruction to get start. Have been using it every week to mow the lawn for the last 3 cut. Totally impressed. No gas needed, no loud noise, no bad smell, the cut is as good and as powerful as my old gas Honda mower. So easy to handle the mower due to the light weight. It works really well either with or without using the self propelled function. I have less than 5000 sq. ft. of lawn. With one full battery charged, I can complete cutting the lawn from start to end. Most importantly the stand up storage feature allowing me to save space in the garage as well as cleaning the underside of the mower easily. Hope this powerful engine will continue to last. My old mower is over 10 years and it can still run if needed.Amy C

I've used this mower now for the third time and I am still so in love with it! It's so easy and painless to use, no more gas or oil leaks to worry about…With the 80V battery, I am never left with a dead battery before completing the job at hand. The mower is also so much smarter than it's equivalent gas engine version. I say this as the motor senses resistance as a function of the grass thickness/density, so it will adjust power to the motor on the fly to accommodate the ever-changing landscape. No gas mower I ever owned could do this other than you yourself backing off on the throttle. This electric mower is all that I need and there is no going back for me.ebman

I bought this mower to replace an old gas mower. It wasn't the first time I had tried replace the old mower. Twice before, the battery powered mowers just weren't satisfactory in terms of their cut quality and speed. I was a little worried that the same thing would be true with this mower. Not the case. This mower required very little set up and I am very pleased. It's quiet, doesn't spell as bunch of CO2 and does a great job. My lawn isn't huge, but I do mow it once a week or so when it's growing. This mower is particularly adept at mulching, which I really didn't expect from a battery powered mower. Greenworks hit one out of the park with this mower.PDXtomct

My 1st use was Mowing my Lawn with a 4 height setting. I started with the 4AMP/HR Battery. It ran down before I finished my yard so I installed the 2AMP/HR Battery and finished mowing. With a goodly number of successive Rain Days I set the Cutting Height to 2. I Mowing in the Backyard and was NOT able to Mow it. I installed the 2AMP/HR Battery and it FAILED to finish Mowing. Then I installed the 40V Ion Battery from my 12"Saw, and it failed to complete the task. Fort5unately I had kept my 21" Corded Mower and completed Mowing. Is this common when the Mower is set to a 2 Cutrting Height?SgtPepper22

My Mother in Law purchased one of these for her duplex. She lives on one side and rents the other. We are not able to mow both front yards on a single charge. The 2 front yards are very small 20×20 square feet each. This has been the case since mower being purchased new. I thought I would give it a try again tonight but the charge only lasted 15 minutes. The grass has just started growing and is not thick or tall yet. I would not recommend this style of mower.Extraordinary Gentleman

The mower was delivered promptly and it does a fine job on my rather small lawn. While my grassy area is small it is located some distance from my house, so using a corded mower was inconvenient. This little cordless mower is perfect. If it weren't for the plastic wheels (no rubber) it would have gotten 5 stars.Saoirse

I found the mower up-to-task on my 1.2 acres, some sloped over 25 degrees. Traction excellent (rear wheel only on this model). I needed TWO batteries, as expected. So I exhaust the first and set it to charge…use the other. I actually exhausted the 2nd battery, but by then the first was already fully charged. Small rocks and sticks are inevitable, especially with the first mow on Spring, but the mower tolerated all well, ans dispatches small 1/8 inch twigs well (heavily treed areas here). Mulches well, not quite as well as my old walk behind gasoline model, but I'm happy with it. Rear tires tend to slip on soft ground, so I keep height setting to medium. Overall, this will work well. I cannot comment on longevity of the mower yet, but will update in a year or so. Equivalent otherwise with gasoline, so no worries. Won't likely use the bag attachment, which is smaller than I'd like. I just mulch and go. If mower becomes clogged with tall grass, motor speed increases, so that's a hint to watch to see that debris still exits the side chute. If none, time to stop the mower and clear chute/underside. Purchased this item a month ago. Mowed five times in a month, 3.5 acres. Lots to say here. First, I ordered a self propelled machine and got the push instead. Apparently out of the self propelled model and just sent me this one without asking. Well, despite 3.5 acres of mowing, I’ll take this one (push) as it seems to adjust to height of grass quickly and gives me more battery life time I assume. Second; the battery if used until it runs out is a solid 75 minutes of mowing. There are discrepancies in the ads saying 90 minutes and the manual saying 60 minutes. I’ll take the 75 minutes. It is an 80 volt 6 amp battery and does charge in an hour. So no complaints. Third, make sure to clean the under carriage frequently if grass is tall or moist. It builds up under there with grass gunk, and the motor just needs to be air cleaned after each use. Don’t use water. I find that doing this is not taking more time, rather a savings of time as it cleans faster than my gas mower did with all the particulars I had to check or fill (gas, oil). So I like this feature as well. Lastly, it appears to be durable. Blade is still sharp and doing its job. I’m impressed with that portion as well Overall it’s a smart purchase and trust me, a decision to go green that you won’t feel bad about.Mower Joe

This mower works well for small, wide-open yards with no walls or fences. It's easy to maneuver, easy to turn, and the battery is easy to plug in and detach and isn't bulky or heavy. The charger is great and very easy to use. The problem with spacing and walls is there is an inexplicable 6-inch wide "front bumper" on this mower that prevents you from pushing up closely against walls and fences, requiring you to turn the mower sideways to mow against a fence. This is not ideal or practical in most cases, because there simply isn't enough room. And that also makes this mower difficult to use in tight spaces, such as around shrubs. I'm not sure why this big gap exists on the front of the mower and have never seen it on any gas or electric mower I've used. The included 2W battery runs out, on average, in about 20 minutes, and takes 30-40 minutes to recharge. Obviously this isn't ideal, and on a yard larger than about 1/2 acre, you will be swapping out batteries a LOT and simply running out of juice. The charger cannot keep up with mowing and swapping. I knew this before buying, so it's hard to really complain, but buyers should have this info before buying and understand that this mower cannot be kept running continuously with two 2W batteries. There needs to be 10-30 minutes between each swap to make sure the new battery is fully charged. Overall, the mower is probably a little overpriced, but I suspect that's because the batteries are VERY expensive, and that is driving up the price of the mower. The cost of a new or battery alone is about the same price as a brand new gas mower. So considering that rechargeable lithium batteries always have a finite life, it remains to be seen whether the long-term cost of owning this mower is actually less than the cost of a gas mower. My initial estimate is that it will cost a lot more to buy and operate this mower over the long term (primarily because of periodic battery replacement) than a gas mower. So if you are interested in purely the cost-savings, this probably is not the answer. If your goal is to consume less or no fossil fuels, this is a great choice.BWSC

I wanted to wait at least a year before I wrote a review so here goes. I bought this mower last year to cut my nearly acre and a half flat yard. We have a lot of problems with drainage so I was constantly getting my riding mower stuck, plus the cost to repair it and the cost of gas was getting ridiculous. I was pretty much over the whole riding mower thing especially considering the environmental impact. I felt really guilty about having such a big yard when I read how much pollution the average lawnmower creates, and they only get something like seven or 8 miles to the gallon. Ugh. So I thought I’d give this a try and at least maybe cut my smaller front yard or as much as I could with it. Well it turns out it is so easy to use that I’m able to cut the entire thing. At this point I should probably also mention that I am 61 and a woman who is moderately fit. However my friend who is partially paralyzed and can only use one hand is able to operate this as well. As you can see by the picture due to the wetness it is often the case that the grass gets very high in the very back of our yard before we can get out and cut it. This mower had no problems although I suspect it wasn’t the greatest thing for it. I did have to make two passes but to be fair I think any mower would’ve been the same. Unless it is extremely hot or the grass is as tall as shown in the picture we can usually get it about 40 minutes before charging. And that is just enough time to take a little break before the next round of mowing. I like the fact that it isn’t very noisy and I can even mow at night if I need to. I like the improvement in my fitness since using this thing. I sit down at a computer all day so it’s great to just grab the mower at lunch and get a little workout in and it’s not strenuous really at all. As an added plus I’m able to track the exercise I use while mowing to get points for my insurance’s wellness program! So if you’re on the fence about going electric I highly recommend this mower, I love not having to get gas and all the other maintenance that that involves. For us it’s at least a 4 mile drive to the nearest gas station and it’s a royal pain. I can also mention that I bought a cheaper electric of a different brand and was not impressed – Which is why I did my homework before buying this one. I was EXTREMELY skeptical of a battery powered lawn mower, especially from a brand I had never heard of and would have never bought this if not for a glowing recommendation from a good friend. 3 months later, I have nothing but good things to say about the EGO Power+ LM2102SP-A 21 inch mower. Mostly, I wanted a lightweight, push button start mower to replace my 20 year old Craftsman. This was easily the lightest mower (gas or battery) that I considered. I think it's about 65 pounds. It's like pushing around a toy compared to my old mower. Sure, it's all plastic and may not last 20 years, but my Craftsman wouldn't have, either, without all kinds of repairs, duck tape and hose clamps. I love not even THINKING about gas, oil, air filters, priming or ear protection. I think my blow drier is louder. I worried about battery life, so I got the bundle with two 4.5 amp-hour batteries, thinking when one died, I could charge it while using the second. I have 3500-4000 sf of fescue and rye to mow and can do it all before the first battery dies, even when using the self propelled option the whole time. Maybe if all the grass was thicker, I would need the second battery. Yes, the charger charges really fast. I'd say it mulches about as well as my old mower. And it has no trouble pulling itself up the berm I have. It did take a little getting used to rear drive, but it seems most all self propelled mowers are rear drive now. I kept reading reviewers of other mowers complain about bagging issues, but this one has a wide enough chute, doesn't make a mess and the bag is much easier to empty than my old mower. Seems to be a roughly 2 bushel capacity. I really can't think of anything to dislike. It has plenty of (useful) blade height settings, plenty of speed settings and 3 handle settings. It folds up easily and can be stored vertically. I have no crystal ball to see how long the batteries will last, but so far it's been a great deal. No regrets.BatteryConvert

My gas self-propelled Honda started up every first time for 16+ years. I use it to trim where my yard tractor can't go. My hands/fingers/joints have osteoarthritis and this year they have really gotten bad. The first time I cranked up the Honda it hurt a lot and then having to push down with my thumbs to get it to self-propel, I knew I needed a change. This mower is easy to start for sure, quiet and the location/operation of the self-propel feature does not hurt my hands. It is lightweight and easy to turn etc. You can change the height of all four (4) wheels with just one (1) lever. The single battery provides more than enough of a charge to do what I needed it to do. The battery easily ejects so I can remove it and recharge. I bought it on sale at Lowe's and I'm very pleased so far with my purchase. I read a lot of reviews and was down to this mower and the GreenWorks with 80V two (2) large/heavy batteries. The GreenWorks had a super long warranty and was also on sale at Costco for the same $. I bought the GreenWorks and used it one time!!!! The lid on the battery compartment would not open too wide in order to get the batteries out to recharge them. I actually could NOT get the batteries out after the first use. It was NOT easy to operate and not lightweight. Very disappointed and I returned it. I am very pleased with this mower and look forward to using it for years to come.Jrvolover

I purchased Select Cut with 7.5Ah battery as it was advertised to run 60 minutes, and my old self propelled gas mower took about an hour to get through my whole yard (it's about 9500 sq feet. I have had the mower for a few weeks now, and am overall quite pleased with it. It cuts well, I only notice a few blades here and there that it misses, and it does actually last about an hour. The first run I did was with the mulching blade installed, and I didn't use the self propel feature. I made it through the whole yard no problem. I then changed to the bagging blade as lawn care people fertilized everything, and my grass was quite deep and thick. I didn't quite make it through the whole yard, but thanks to my purchase of an Ego String Trimmer, I just stole the 2Ah battery from it, and kept on going until I was done. So nice to have this safety blanket. I still had enough juice in the smaller battery to finish my edging. Even if I didn't, the battery charges quite quickly. Today, the grass was not as long, and extremely dry. I decided to see how the self propel worked. It appears that both rear wheels are on a single axle, so turning while under self propulsion is a little difficult. Otherwise the self propel feature works wonderfully. Easy to pick a comfortable speed with the handlebar knob adjuster. With bagging, self propulsion, and having to make about 5 stops to empty the bag (which holds WAY more than my old gas mower did), the battery was able to finish the yard with a little left to spare. Actual run time was about 55 minutes. Certainly not the cheapest choice, but the mower is comfortable to use, the battery charges extremely fast, and whoever designed the single handle deck height adjustment lever is a hero. The only minor issues are ones that I saw reported by other users. The self propel feature takes a second to kick in once you push the button, and takes a second to stop after you let go of the button. After a little use, making the timing adjustment becomes second nature. The other oddity is when the back wheels lock up if you aren't using self propulsion. Easy fix if you just pull it backward for a few inches to unlock whatever gets stuck. I haven't tried it in the dark yet with the headlights. Moved to the city after years of "country living" on acreage. Rather than buy a gas mower and have to deal with hauling gas back and forth, I decided to go electric. I was a bit hesitant because of the seemingly steep prices, but my son-in-law has an EGO mower, and loves it, so when I saw that Lowed had the EGO self-propelled Select Cut on sale, I jumped at it. Wow, it is nice! So quiet that I no longer have to wear hearing protection, and I can even mow early Saturday morning (while it's still cool) without disturbing my wife or neighbors. And it's powerful enough to mulch really well, so no grass clippings to worry about… I especially like the fact that the "self-propelled" feature works even when the blades aren't turning. Parts of the yard are pretty steep, and it's nice to have some "help" getting the mower back up the hill. The battery life (which I was a bit nervous about) is excellent. I have yet to go below 40% charge level, even when making multiple passes to cut down some really tall weeds that had gotten a bit out of hand. I've had only one "issue" (in quotation marks, because – well, read on…). The self-propelled feature stopped working. Everything else worked just fine, but it would not propel itself. I called Support, and got a call-back in less than 3 minutes (!) from a very helpful person who stepped me through some trouble-shooting. Ooops! The "issue" was totally my fault – I did not realize that I had rotated the "speed" dial all the way to the rear, which effectively turns off the self-propelled feature. To his credit, the customer service rep is NOT laugh at me (though I certainly did!), and was very nice. Fast response AND expert advice got me back up and mowing in less than 5 minutes. I received this "Please Review" email fairly quickly after my purchase. In truth, I've only used my EGO mower once. The mower seems very sturdy, and well built. Its collapsible features, and folding handle make it easy to store, and convert quickly, and easily. Its weight matches its sturdiness, without being overly heavy. It seems just right for as solid as its built. The power was quite impressive, the difference in noise level actually a little shocking. Its so quiet compared to a conventional gas mower, that I would not hesitate to mow my lawn earlier in the morning, or later in the evening, without the concern of disturbing my neighbors. and the supplied mulching blade made short work of the grass, and with a smaller yard, (we live in the suburbs) I can complete my mowing in 10 to 15 minutes. With a battery that will run for 60 minutes, and without using any of the addtional power draining features of self- propulsion, or the LED headlight, I should get 5 to 6 mowing jobs from a single charge. My mower included additional blades for the bagger attachment as well as the bagger itself, and although not used in favor of the mulching blade which came already installed, for the purchase price, it was nice to receive them. My only concern is the longevity of the battery. While I can't comment on how many years it will last, Im quite sure when the time comes to replace it, it will NOT be cheap.As I said, I've only used it once, and cant comment or speculate on battery life, and for these 2 reasons, I give it a solid 4 stars. Overall, I am happy with the lawn mower. It gets the job done with minimal fuss. It is really quiet, light, and easy to maneuver. In upright storage position it occupies very little space in my garage With the exception mentioned below, it has been a joy to use. My only major dissatisfaction is the supplied battery that started malfunctioning a year after I purchased the mower. It now stops operating after just a few minutes of use, even on full charge. After a few minutes of rest, the battery is operational again, but working 2-3 minutes at a time is just not practical. My workaround was just to use a smaller EGO battery instead (from another EGO appliance that I own), which has zero issues. Still, the replacement batteries are pretty expensive, so that was a disappointment given how I liked everything else in this mower. I am not sure about the reasons for the failure: either the battery overheats and shuts down as a safety precaution, or possibly something is wrong with the charger?AM72

I've only used the E-GO mower 3 times, so still much to be learned about it's durability and battery duration. I live in Southeast TX near Houston in the middle of an oak and pine forest, but my 1 acre lawn is very level and in great shape in most places. I'm not an environmentalist, so I'm not trying to go all "green". My regular riding mower is a 22 hp 42-inch John Deere Z-Trac. I purchased this push mower to manage a small "trouble spot" in my lawn – a peninsula between my beautiful landscaping and my swimming pool, so I wanted a bagger to keep from spraying grass clippings in either direction. So first the positive. Even though it bought this for a 5-minute job each time I mow, I've run this mower for almost an hour (on my near perfectly flat lawn which I never let get too tall prior to mowing), so no complaints about the battery life during use. In the areas of my lawn which have good drainage and sun/shade, and therefore perfect St. Augustine grass, it works great, and creates a nice clean cut and the bagger works well so there are no pine needles or leaves or clippings when finished. I love the collapsible handle and the ability to fold it down to the mower body and store it upright which takes up nearly no space in my very crowded garage. If my lawn was perfect, I'd give this mower a 4-star rating. While it is totally unfair to compare the two, my JD really creates a strong vortex which pulls the grass straight up for a totally clean cut. The E-GO cuts the height you set very cleanly, but is does not have the power to create the vortex to really raise all the "not perfect grass" (i.e., "weeds" – nutseg and bahia mixed in with my St. Augustine), so the next day the clean cut does not look all that clean (again, just in the areas where the grass is not perfect St. Augustine). This mower is not light. I'm a healthy adult male, 6' 2" and 190 pounds and pushing on a nearly flat lawn. Once the bagger starts to fill up, this thing gets really heavy. I would not recommend using this on any kind of inclines or hills. If I had to do it again, I'd pay extra for the self-propelled version – I chose NOT to get it because it adds weight and reduces the battery life; now I know better. Jury is still out … it works for my trouble spot, and it works great on areas of perfectly manicured lawn, but I would not use this for my only mower, since my lawn is not perfect everywhere.Rob L

I use this mower in my back yard only. It is big but small enough that I can mow between getting my yard cut by my yard guy. The cord is aggravating because I have to keep flipping it out of the way. I get exercise when I cut the yard but if I could afford another mower I would probably get a gas mower. Also I love that this mower mulches.excercise

This is like a toy lawn mower. Literally, my 4-year-old can push it with no problem. Plugging it in is such a hassle because it always comes disconnected. i love that this machine is ligh-weight. I literally was able to use it with one hand. I have arthris and carpal tunnel and it didn't cause a lot of jarring or pain. Although unit design no longer has cord–wrap storage brackets, the balance is superbly delivered. Rig is about 6 to 8 dB louder than a typical upright vacuum cleaner, (yes, it's that quiet). Machine has plenty of power, cutting 8–inch mixed grasses easily. Cord guide–bracket is a tight fit for industrial–sized 12 ga. extension cord, but it's manageable. Bag mounts easily and is quickly removed for emptying. Plastic appears to be solid and robust, time will tell if lasts without cracking and deterioration. For 1/4–acre or less sized lawns, this is a great choice. Vibration is minimal, 35 minutes of use did not cause any fatigue. Chafe only accumulates above deck at bag mounts, so is easily removed. Parts are readily available allowing one to maintain device properly.CD

Yes there are pros and cons with this lawnmower. Some of the pros are: It was easy to put together, although 2 people are a plus when putting it together. The enclosed directions are good and easy to follow. It's size and lightweight to works well in small and closed spaces. Another pro is it's powerful AC electric motor that runs the blade. I'm not sure this is a pro or con but except for the handle, blade and motor the entire unit (frame) is made of plastic including the wheels. I would have prefered rubber wheels. The cutting height is very easy to adjust. In my opinion this lawnmower would have been better as a cordless with about a 20 volt or more battery with charger. instead of a corded mower. The cord gets in the way of mowing but if you're used to a corded lawnmower you all ready know that. Somewhere in the directions it reads this is for 1/8 acre or less. That is definitely true. If a person lived in an apartment or condo with very little grass to mow this should work better than a string trimmer and give you more even grass cut. As far as edging close to a sidewalk or driveway a string trimmer or edging tool will work better. I would like to see the manufacturer do some more design and make this a cordless electric mower. The design is good, just not as a corded mower. Even though my front yard is less than 1/8 acre and I don't know anyone with a yard less than 1/8 acre, I would not recommend this to anyone, although I do like it. I’m sorry, I don’t like to be negative, I try to find the positive in everything, but I don’t like much, if anything, about this mower. First issue was it just looked cheap. Plastic, lightweight, the wheels are basic plastic similar to the wheels on my sons toy wagon, no joke. Assembly seemed very simple and quick, since it’s so small it comes mostly assembled in the box except for the bagger and handle so you would think simple, right? Nope. Couldn’t get the handle screws on, it was like they were both stripped, just kept spinning and spinning and wouldn’t tighten. After about twenty minutes of both my husband and I trying, we quit! Luckily my husband has what we needed to get it together with regular bolts and nuts and it worked perfectly. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH A CORD. So we had to go purchase a long outdoor cord to try it out FYI. It’s rather cumbersome to be pushing around a lower and holding a cord out of the way at the same time. Much like I do when vacuuming. It ran a bit more quiet than my gas mower which was nice. Didn’t cut grass as well though. As you can see in my picture it’s all different lengths. Bottom line, for me, this is a huge pass! It might be ok for an elderly person who has a small yard and needs a lightweight unit. For the average yard. No, not at all a fan.Riviesmom

The mower is lightweight and takes a little time learning the self propelled motion. In tight places its better to use as a push mower. The battery life is limited to one hour or less. It did a good job cutting but ran out of battery befor finishing. Will need a second battery.jlat9770

When considering going to a battery operated mower I compared several models and manufacturers. The decision came down to this mower being made of steel not plastic and some favorable battery reviews. The size of my lawn and time to cut seemed to fit well within the advertised battery run time. Well a month and about 10 uses have revealed the battery is not good enough for normal yards. If one has a couple hundred square feet to cut this unit would be great. However, I am consistently only getting a run time of 30-40 minutes. That equates to only able to cut about 60% of my lawn. I have to stop, wait several hours to recharge the battery to be able to finish the job. I have read subsequent comments from Toro advising the consumer to adjust their cut width so the machine does not run at the higher speed thus saving the battery. That does not work at all! In summary, this is a good machine that cuts great, when it works. The battery is a huge disappointment. Unfortunately, I am past the time to return the machine and a second battery is around $360. I have owned and used a gas-fired Toro for the past ten years. Age of the mower resulted in the need for more frequent repairs. The battery powered Toro offered me an opportunity to use a lighter-weight mower and to have a smaller impact environmentally. But, I am not 100% sold on the new Toto. Here's why: 1. With the bag attached, half of the grass goes over the front right wheel and onto the shaft of the mower rather than into the bag. 2. It would be helpful to include a numbering system to adjust the height of the cut as with the old gas-fired mower. 3. The height adjustment levers leave little room to change them and longer handles would avoid scrapping my hands as I change the height. 4. Height must be adjusted singularly for each wheel – that's a pain. 5. More than once, I have had to run the mower several times to pick up grass – each run decreases my battery. 6. The mower does not function well in taller grass that sometimes occurs when there has been a lot of rain and grass cutting goes over 8 or 10 days. 7. The mower cannot advance without the blade being engaged. This forces me to cut in some places where I am just moving from one location to another. 8. Grass tends to accumulate on the door to the collection bag and gets clogged periodically. 9. Starts quickly and easily – far less physical stress than with my gas-fired older mower. 10. Light weight, agile, and easy to maneuver.Kingfish42

So hopefully they are still doing that as I desperately need to win a second battery for this 21466. After shelling out near $700 for a new mower, the first use ( yes after charging) was less than expected. I have a normal lawn, around 8000 sq ft. This is far less than the projection for what that battery can and should do. To have to go back to the store and fight for a 2nd battery or even deal with AI and online chat, or hold time on the phone to get one….more put on my shoulders as the consumer who could've bought any other brand. I am still giving 3 stars and here is why: Businesses maybe not so much a brand of this size with such a market share, rely on ratings and it isn't fair because I am not 100% satisfied doesnt mean I should bash…so 3 stars. I would say about 3 stars thus far but on the record as a solid 3 out of 5. I think there is a loss due to the weight being a true steel standard mower deck. The aluminum unit is far too out of my price range and it too is even possibly far too heavy and causes some strain on battery. Now there is a flip side to this, the plastic mowers out there have larger batteries that can go further but their ease of use isn't really there. Here is where I give points to Toro. Its a push pull in that you need the actual weight to 1. Feel and maneuver like a real mower and this does that. 2. The weight keeps the mower down and level to give a decent cut that the plastic models simply do. So its more positive than negative having the weight. I just wish they included 2 batteries. 1. Because you get to enjoy the mow and not worry about how fast you need to move before battery goes. a simple one battery for front, do it at your leisure, one battery for the back and do that at your leisure. With a 3 1/2 hour charge time….2 batteries should come with the mower. Especially stopping and starting, getting a cold drink in between. With this its hurry and run as fast as you can because you are on a clock versus a scenario where you have more time that you need in battery life. Most offer 60 plus minutes, this gave me around 35 and I couldn't get to my entire yard, had to recharge and pack it in for the day and now a second day to mow. Not a large yard at all. 2 – 7.5 ah batteries in the box day one and this mower would probably overtake the rest out there. Another thing I didn't care much for is the wires. Should be in a flexible harness as 1. It looks cheap and not a $700 unit. 2. They flop around and again takes focus off mowing to look down and make sure nothing is grinding up against the wheel or something else like a branch. the back wheels was another issue I didn't care for. Nearly impossible to see where you are placing the notches. The front wheels are standard but you almost need a flashlight and to squint to see where rear wheel settings are. Again 3 stars I would give it a solid 3. its good in some ways and flawed in others like any other product out there today. Rear flap tucks under mower often again having to stop and untuck it multiple times. for a $629 plus price point, a company around this long, competing late in a fairly well dominated space ( the battery operated space not simply the mower space) should have done better in areas I mentioned. Had this been $400 or $500 with 2 batteries, I would've felt I really had a long lasting gem of a unit. Instead I have an ok mower I can live with but don't love. Almost stressful as I cannot see battery, essentially running through my yard in fear of exactly what happened which was running out and making mowing a 2 day experience… could improve in many ways. By the time this posts they will have another more expensive model that addresses some of this stuff but since its already used I cannot return it and have to live with it and eventually have to shell out another $350 for a second battery when I strongly feel out of the box shouldve had everything a homeowner needs to get the job done. Raised wheels, ran, just didnt get all done at once. Again honest review, like several things like the look, the weighted feel of a standard mower, just some other areas where I feel like it failed me but own it now.jasonl

It is the best electric corded lawn mower, it needs 11 amp. I bought a 16 gauge 50 feet extension cord and that's all you need to run it. Most of the parts are plastic but sturdy, very light weight. It is a push only mower.Pushkar

This small but powerful lawnmower was exactly what we needed for our lawn after our 24 year old cordless mower finally reached the end of its days. The Ryobi is super light, can be maneuvered by one hand while you hold the cord with the other, cuts accurately and quietly, and is very easy to store as it is small. We always mulch, and it does this with ease. We have a typical smaller yard in the suburbs so a small diameter blade is not a drawback. We love this mower so much that everyone in the family actually competes over who will get to mow next! We also have a 5 year old dual corded/ cordless Ryobi edge trimmer which we love.Heather
