Had a Peugeot Electric Pepper Mill in white plastic (pvc?). It had a quality grinding mechanisim. The junction between the upper and lower parts was vulnerable clear plastic. It broke. Have had quality experiences with Peugeot in the past. Replaced it with a more expensive stainless steel model. Same quality grinder, same clear connection, same vulnerability. Returned item. I truly love this tool. I use it every day and have purchased it as a gift twice. But you have to not mind a $100 tool that will break in 1-2 yrs. This is my second mill from Peugeot. The first one the battery case cracked and I attributed human error. Now my second unit the cartridge that holds the battery cartage has become loose and no longer makes a tight connection. I attempted to contact Peugeot but heard nothing back. I have to think long and hard if I will replace this product again…Laura

When we got them home, we discovered they required batteries – no mentioned on the box. Each one takes six triple A batteries and like another reviewer has said, there is very little room for salt and pepper. Package information needs to be improved to alert buyer.. While my first set lasted 7 years until one of the front black panel came off, within weeks of buying the 2nd set, one fell out of my kitchen cabinet on to the stone worktop and cracked the base, John Lewis said this was not covered by the guarantee so I waited another 3 years before I could justify buying another set. Electric Grinders are much easier to use. This is a great battery operated electric pepper mill. It comes with instructions on how to put the peppercorns in the grinder. You just unscrew the top off, underneath you will find where the batteries go. It takes 4 AA batteries.They are very easy to install. The peppercorns go in the bottom half. My only problem is it doesn't hold a lot of peppercorns. It is a little harder to get the top back on after loading it. Once it's back on, it's very easy to use. There is a silver button on the front. Press that and out comes the pepper. There is an adjuster on the bottom, so you can adjust how fine you want the pepper to come out. Pretty neat part is there is a tiny light that comes on when you press the button but I'm not sure exactly why it's there. Overall, it's a good grinder to have. I recommend using it for the table instead of the kitchen to season, as it doesn't hold a lot. You can also put salt in this one if you prefer.SPNMom2013

I was nervous to invest in another electric salt & pepper grinder set. The ones this set replaced never did work right bc the motor was just too weak to actually grind the sea salt and pepper. I have a disability so this item is more of a necessity than a luxury in my case, but my hands are often too weak to grip the manual grinders. I also have low blood pressure so I'm supposed to consume as much salt as possible (yes, real doctor's orders. LOL); I'd been needing a working replacement for a few months when I bought these ones. This new set has been going strong for a few weeks now! They're already 1000% better than the set I had before; there is no contest btwn the two – these ones are far superior. All I have to do is turn these ones upside down rather than pressing a button like my old set. Plus, since you have to turn it over for it to work, that part is on top when not in use so I don't get tiny salt and pepper particles everywhere like I did with my set that came out the bottom. I'm very happy with this set so far, just be sure to pick up some batteries when buying this bc they do take quite a few (all electric S&P grinders do – not just these ones)! But when these grinders really do work as advertised, I don't mind buying the batteries for them. I purchased these about a year ago and i am very disappointed! The salt mill comes out very fast even when the adjustment on the bottom is screwed in as tight as it can go. The pepper mill is INCREDIBLY SLOW! So slow in fact, that i have to switch hands to continue to hold down the button. Because the pepper mill goes so slow, it burns thru batteries within a couple weeks. I have tried multiple different kinds of pepper and i even tried to “pre-grind” the pepper by smashing it into smaller chunks. Then i got to thinking, maybe i had the salt in the pepper mill and the pepper in the salt mill. So i switched them around and that didn't change a thing. Also the lights that are on the bottom aren't very bright and dont help at all. Overall, This is a terrible product, i wish i could have used the 6 AAA batteries that each one of them takes on something else useful, like a flashlight or something haha.Gabs
I have trouble with my hands, especially my right hand, and I am right handed, so when I saw this set at my Granddaughter's and used it, I loved it! Hers had a light in it, which I thought the two sets that I bought for my Daughter and myself had the light in them also. She said she bought hers at Bed, Bath and Beyond! After purchasing mine, and NO LIGHT, I went back online and could not find one on your system!!! I am going to keep mine, as it helps me not to GRIND them myself. My Daughter is OK with hers too, the 'lit' one would have been even nicer, but we will manage without the light! I have found them on other sites, and know they are much more expensive, and I just cannot afford the price of two! But we do like them and they are VERY helpful for me with my bad right hand!!!Barbara

I purchased these for my husband for Christmas. I wish the new grinders had a bottom cap that keeps the residue from getting on the counter when not in use. Until I can figure out something to remedy this issue, I placed an unused butter dish under them which in my opinion look tacky on the counter. I would Not recommend this to anyone until you can get caps or covers for them.Kris
I love how the electric salt and pepper work. They are so easy to grind at different amounts of thickness of the salt and pepper. The only problem I had was not with the grinders, but trying to find salt crystals to grind. Many are in the self grind containers. The grinders are excellent.Carolyn

This was a replacement for my prior Cuisinart rechargeable salt and pepper shakers which broke and were replaced under warranty. I like this new model much better than the old one for several reasons: 1) The new design can be adjusted to give a much finer grind – the prior design ground too coarse; 2) The prior design had separate units for salt and pepper – the new unit has salt and pepper in one unit which is more convenient; 3) the attachment of the plastic spice housing to the main body (which broke on my prior grinder) is now more robust and should not break as easily. The grinding sounds seems a little weak, but it does a good job grinding the pepper. There is a cap to put on the salt end to keep dust out. The cap also acts as a1 tsp. measuring cup. However, you cannot see how much salt has been ground into the measuring cup until you remove it. They should have made the cup larger, so you could see the amount of salt you have ground, WITHOUT having to remove it.kenzz
I received this mid-May as a gift. It would not take a charge so Cuisinart sent a replacement charging base even though it was clear it was the battery in the unit itself. The replacement arrived but the issue remained. The light would start flashing. Finally a complete replacement was sent and it seems to work as described.
