Best Electric Razors For Manscaping (2025 Update)

The really killer feature of this beard trimmer (which doesn't seem to be advertised well imo) is that it it doesn't miss a bunch of hairs like most trimmers do. The adjustable "built-in metal comb" guides the hairs directly into the blades, since it's the same piece of metal that the blades cut against. This is very different from a trimmer with a plastic comb/spacer, which will sort of lift the hairs but then drop them before they reach the blades, allowing them to curl away and avoid being cut. With this trimmer, you no longer need to do several passes to ensure you haven't missed any hairs. I've included a picture with the comb/spacer fully extended so you can see what I mean. Note: it might not be quite as effective if you use the plastic spacer (for lengths greater than 5mm), although I expect it would still work quite a bit better than other trimmers.Iann

Norelco does a great job with shavers and their clipper attachments are a great little added bonus, but I wouldn't cut my hair with them for obvious reasons. That's where the series 9000 comes in. At first glance, it looks and feels premium in both the real stainless steel body and the compact yet weighted feel in the hand. It's very portable and comes with it's own carry case. I really like the large height adjustment wheel and steel blade guard that give a sense of precision while it actually follows through with that precision from 0.4mm up to 10mm with the only included guard attachment. My old hair trimmer came with a bulky case and 9 attachments, the smallest of which was 3mm, so it's refreshing to be able to vary the cut of my beard and sideburns. As a hair trimmer, it's kind of slow, mainly because the blade is small and the guard teeth are so close together. Though it does the job, I've decided to only use it for finishing touches for which I feel it works best. I've even used it to clean up those hard to reach spots the shaver can't get to like just below the jaw line or trimming the moustache just below the nose. I've used it for about a week and can report the battery has just recently went to 2 bars out of 3 which is pretty impressive. The only thing that bothers me a bit is the elevated noise compared to my corded clippers. Though I would assume it's to be expected from a cordless unit. Quite miniscule in comparison to it's indispensability. I would recommend this for people that don't use razors, but want a well groomed beard and overall appearance.joecaffe

I was looking to upgrade / replace my older 7400 Multigroom that I've had since 2016. It still worked great, but the battery hasn't been holding a charge as long as it used to. I figured I'd upgrade to the 9000 series. First thing is – this is not a replacement for a Multigroom, but it's still world's away a better beard shaver compared to the 7400. That said, there are some pro's, con's and trade-offs that have me still keeping my 7400 in the bathroom along side the 9000. First, the pro's of the 9000. This thing is a solid shaver, it doesn't feel cheap. It's made of metal and plastic which give it a good heft. The design of the 9000 is such that it can be left standing on the vanity by the sink, waiting for me to come up and shave. Taking up a smaller footprint is nice. Next, the 9000 can be used in the shower. My beard isn't long enough to warrant shower shaving, but it's nice to know that if it gets splashed or wet on the vanity that it won't fry the razor. The coolest feature of the 9000 is the guide. It's built into the razor itself and you can use the dial to go from 0.4 to 5" in length without using the included guard. You'll see in my pics there's a white number and a blue number on the dial. The White number is the length of the razor without the included guard attached. The Blue number is the length when you have the included guard snapped on. The guard adds an additional 5" in length, so the length goes from 5 to 10" in length with the guard attached. I leave mine set at 8" with the guard attached for an even shave. Battery life so far has been great, I've only left it to charge once or twice over night – but have been using it for several weeks now. Something Philips has FINALLY allowed is the ability to use the razor while it's plugged in – meaning if the battery goes kaput, I can always use it as a wired razor. But like all good things, where there are pro's there are also con's. Because the power port is on the bottom, there's no way to stand the razor up when it's charging, meaning you'll have to lie it down. Not horrible by any stretch of the imagination, but something to be aware of. I mentioned I'm still keeping my Multigroom 7400 in rotation and it comes down to the size of the detail head trimmer. The 9000 razor head is about an inch across, so if you want to get in tight around a soul patch, under your nose, or wherever – you might have a challenge because the 9000's head is bigger. The 7400's detail head was about 0.5" across allowing for a much tighter detail cut. Finally, because the razor allows for a 0.4 amount of hair, there's no way to get a totally clean shave with this. You'll always have some stubble left. If that's your jam, this isn't a negative – but if you're like me and you want some parts around the neck to be clean shaven, you'll need to use another razor, like a 3500 or something that's meant for clean shaves. When I was introduced to shaving, I tried my Dad's Sunbeam, Remington foil and a DE analog. I ended up doing the DE and got tired of nicks and cuts and skin irritation. in 1972, I started an almost 50 year relationship with Norelco "rotary" products. I went as high as $200+ in that line and it seems they have plateaued as far as technology advances are concerned. I was fed up with the poor quality of replacement blades available today, so I began a search for a replacement shaver. After reading numerous reviews, mostly pro, I decided to give the Arc5 a shot. All I can say is if you find yourself in my spot, do not hesitate. Get this shaver with the cleaning/charging unit, STAT! PROS: The closest shave I've gotten, next to a razor, EVER. Did NOT irritate my skin (I have sensitive skin) Larger head > shorter shave time Flex head follows your facial contours (jaw line, neck, etc.) Beard "sensor" adjusts to your beard's current length. Trimmer does a good job. Shaver has a "built-in" cleaning function, which you can use if you're travelling, or in between "tank" cleanings. Head size and shaving method delivers a faster shave. The cleaning/charging base has a "Dry/charge" function. CONS: Price of replacement heads and cleaning solution concentrate. I got this in anticipation of my upcoming birthday (thank you, honey!) and read the manual. I HAD to check the unit out, so I put some pre-shave lotion on and charged the shaver. Some people complain about the size of the shaver. It really is comparable to the Norelco I was using, but the shape of the head is what speeds your shave along. (It covers more territory). Since there is usually a break-in time for new shaving methods, I expect my shaves to improve over the next week. I used primarily an up and down motion on my face, then I changed direction and orientation on my chin and neck. One complaint I avoided is on my upper lip I have a moustache, so I didn't have a problem with trying to get a close shave there. After finishing and evaluating the shave quality, I took the head off, and rinsed it and the shaver under the tap. Then, I wiped excess water off both and reassembled the unit and dropped it into the cleaning/charging base and put it on dry. I haven't used the cleaning function of the tank yet, but will update my review after I've done so. For things like shaving my ears, I have a companion Panasonic trimmer that I use for things no shaver can do. Summary: Get one! You have 30 days to decide whether you want to keep it.RubberToe

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this razor. after a month using every other day I havent experienced any of the negatives I read about. I use it on my head and neck below my beard. I found if I use it every other day or 3rd day on my head it shaves easy and as smooth as a razor. Like all electric razors it does not do well with long hair. the only draw back i have is the razor head is large. Which helps speed up the process doing my whole head but little difficult around the top of my ear to sideburn section. I still think its best razor I have ever used in 20 years though. The charging/cleaning station is so nice. Yea it can be a little loud on the cleaning portion but its the razor turning on and off so what's the difference when you use it? Travel case and option to still sharge it with just the cord is well thought out. Mean I dont have to lug the station with me when I go away for a week. But after 20 use Im still at 80 to 85 percent So i likely wouldnt need to charge it anyway.Abult

I was very hesitant to try an electric razor, considering my beard is full and thick and grows quickly. I had been using a DE razor and wet shaving for the last few years. I tired of the time and blood. I researched the closest cutting electric razor sand this one seemed to be among the best. Turns out that I like it even more than I had hoped. It shaves close and quickly. It allows me to shave daily or go 3 days and handles both situations with comfort. Been using for about a month and I will never go back to blades and cream and the hassle. If I'm careful and focused this razor is basically as close a blade. A solid shave takes under 4 minutes and I experience no issues at all even with somewhat sensitive skin. If you're considering an electric razor, I'd start right here. Been shaving for 45 years, and mostly with Panasonic shavers. They are by far the best shavers made. I have 4 Panasonics in my collection right now… the ES8249, ES-LF51 ES-LA93 and the new ES-LV97. Whats nice about Panasonic is that the charger/cleaning station can be used interchangeable with almost any of it models in a pinch. I've used Braun, Reminington and most the top brands and Panasonic is the best, IMHO. The Braun had an annoying vibration to it and not as smooth as the Panasonics. My current shaver is a ES LA93 which is very good but only has 3 blades The ES-VS97 in new and improved, and I mean that literally. The 5 blade head are smooth and soft, and cut with less swipes than the ones with 3 blades. The pop up trimmer is a big improvement over older models, as it locks in place moving in either direction. Lastly, cosmetically it is much nicer looking with a matte black finish.cgnaked

I’m switching to this electric Panasonic Arc5 razor after having used another brand’s wet/dry electric razor for the past 13 years. The Arc5 razor is lightweight, and the matte black plastic doesn’t look or feel very premium, however, a silver/chrome model is also available and the warranty is 2 years. This razor performs very nicely and gives me a close shave both when using dry and wet with shaving cream. I very rarely have to make more than one pass over the same patch of skin, though I find that when shaving dry it’s easier to pull the skin taught to raise the hairs since I don’t have to work over the shaving cream. The first time I used the razor I did experience a bit of razor burn and irritation, especially around the Adam’s apple; the manual suggests that it could take up to 30 days of regular use for your skin to acclimate to the new shaver. That, plus I haven’t clean shaven properly in weeks as growing out your beard has become quite trendy during the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, I did use the trimmers first to trim my facial hair down to stubble before shaving and was impressed with the efficiency and smoothness of the pop up trimmers; they didn’t catch, pull, or snag once, which my old electric razor used to do constantly. If you like the stubble or 5 o’clock shadow look, you could probably even stop there. The LCD is bright and easy to read, but it really only gives you information about the remaining battery life and whether or not it is set to the “cleaning” mode. The charging cable connector is uniquely shaped, so if you lose it or it breaks, you’ll need to get a model/series specific replacement cable. It lasts about 2 weeks on a full charge (1 hour) if your daily shave averages about 3 minutes. While the unit I have did not come with a charging base, there are contacts on back of the handle for automatic charging when the razor is placed into a charging base. What I did find interesting about this razor is its beard density sensor which changes the motor speed based on the density/coarseness of the section of beard it is trimming. You can hear the motor sound change as it encounters thinner or thicker patches of hair, which works well on my uneven and patchy beard growth. The razor also has a cleaning cycle and comes with blade oil to maintain the blade sharpness and a brush to clean out any shavings. The top pops off easily for cleaning, and the foils and blades are simple to remove and replace when needed. The unit did come with a leatherette carry case and a plastic protective cap for travel. My beard may be a bit different than the avg. guy’s beard. I’m not a hairy guy, & I don’t have a thick, coarse, stubbly beard. If I don’t shave during the work week, I won't end up with a stylish 5 o’clock shadow until Friday afternoon–a look that a lot of other guys can achieve in just 1 day. But even with my soft, thin facial hair, this electric razor doesn’t offer the close shave I’d hoped for. In fact, the number of passes I’m forced to make over my face & neck to obtain a clean, whiskerless mug is both annoying & time-consuming. So, despite my slow-growing beard, if I don’t shave at least 2-to-3 times/week w/this electric razor, then I’m forced to revert to a disposable razor for a clean shave. In addition, I found that the shaver’s large head makes it a bit unwieldy & difficult to obtain a close shave in the area just beneath my nose. Whether shaving wet or dry & regardless of technique (going against the grain, stretching the skin, toggling the shaver head between the “free” & “lock” positions, utilizing the pop-up trimmer, etc.), I also found it difficult to get a clean shave under my jaw line, below my sideburns. I experienced similar difficulty in shaving the tiny hairs in the lower neck/throat area on either side of my Adam’s apple. Although some may prefer to utilize the razor’s wet shave capability, I don’t like to shave in the shower. Although I did try the wet shave option, it didn’t cut any better than the dry shave. So, after 2 tries at wet shaving, I went back to traditional dry shaving. As for the suggested shaving cream option, I don’t use shaving cream with an electric razor. For me, the whole pt. of an electric razor is convenience & time savings vs. dealing w/the hassles of a manual razor (running hot water, applying/removing shaving cream/gel, & cauterizing bloody nicks, etc.). Simply put: an electric shaver should provide a QUICK, safe, close shave without all the mess & fuss. Although a 2-yr. mfr.’s limited warranty sounds impressive vs. the industry std., a quick check revealed that the common recommended replacement parts (new blades & foils) aren’t inexpensive. So, I doubt I’ll be able to justify the expense of regular maintenance w/this razor (apart from routine cleaning). Instead, I’ll probably elect to put those funds towards the cost of a new shaver. Furthermore, the lithium ion battery life is just 3 yrs., & it isn’t intended to be replaced by the consumer. In some ways, this shaver could almost be considered an expensive disposable razor. On a minor note, the black travel case/pouch feels like cheap vinyl without any real padding or cushioning to fully protect the hardware & sensitive electronics. Overall, I'm a bit underwhelmed & disappointed, as I expected greater performance—namely, a closer, quicker shave—from a premium electric shaver at this price point.CriticalEye

This was not exactly what I thought I was ordering for him, but he is getting used to it and now he really likes it. Says the battery is lasting a long time, many times being used and still strong. It is small and light weight, so at first it seemed "dinky" but it does a very nice job of keeping his beard at that "day-old" look that I like for him. I have a drawer with three of these that don't work. They were each great when first bought and used, but the third or fourth time it was switched on there was nothing. I changed the battery – nothing. I tried reversing the polarity of the battery installation – nothing. I tried a third battery properly installed – nothing. I was in th market for a new, smaller trimmer, so I went to my local Wally World and picked this little beauty up for $20. It had all of the atrachments I could need with a few more besides. The fit and finish is excellent, it's light and handy, very maneuverable ans able to get closer than my larger trimmer. The battery lasts 60 minutes and that is more than I will ever need for my usage. The included charger efficiently brings the trimmer up to full power in a timely fashion. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. They're there for a reason; fully and clearly explaining every aspect of the trimmer, it's accesories, their installation and function. I would say this is a lighter duty trimmer set. If you want to cut hair regularly, this is not your product. Get a heavier-duty, corded trimmer that's meant for that kind of work. However, if you want an *Excellent* tool for getting that beard and mustache trimmed or cut, you can't go wrong with this one. Light hair-cutting is not out of the question. A kid's haircut wouldn't be a bad idea, either. The maneauverability, lightness of weight, and, in my opinion, safer design, make it great for kid's haircuts. Overall I rate his product a 10/10. If you treat it with care, it'll perform everytime, on time. Great little trimmer, it makes trimming my beard easier and more fun than attempting to use my otherwise awesome hair trimmer. I decided I wanted a grooming trimmer, so what better product to buy on Prime day than one of these. I'm sure as you know, if you peruse the trimmer shopping section on amazon, the first 10 to 15 results are nice looking trimmers with LED lights and all come with stands that you can easily place on your bathroom countertop. Unfortunately, Phillips did not meet the mark. There's no indication at all to tell you that the product is charging, no green light or 0 through 100 marker, something that you can see as an important feature that should be on a chargeable trimmer. Secondly there is no stand, they give you this cheap pouch to put about 10 tiny items in, some which will get wet and full of hair. If I had known this is the product I'd received, I would have gone with the others in the same price range that at least come with a LED light to tell you if the product is charged, and a nice stand put all of these various tiny attachments into. I had a Wahl version of this product for many years and it still worked great. I lost it during a move and bought this as a cheap replacement. I wish I spent more for another Wahl. This one advertises that it doesn't need oil, but that's because it's almost completely plastic, including the blades. Very noisy by comparison and light weight, so it feels cheap in my hand. It works well enough for the price, but it doesn't feel as gentle as I'm used to. The heads and attachments aren't as nice either. I don't expect it to last long. If you want to save a buck or try out a rechargeable trimmer, this is not bad. But if you're like me and prefer a tool that will stand the test of time, I'd recommend looking into a brand with metal blades and a reputation of quality to back it.Someone who likes quality

I have used Braun electric shavers daily for the last 25 years and Remingtons before that. My Braun Series 7 sideburn trimmer broke this past week when I replaced the head so I was able to compare the two head to head. Braun 7 with a new foil head versus Series 9 Pro. The 9 Pro was a major improvement to the already fine Series 7 with a new head. I was amazed at the major difference of closeness of the shave and how efficient it was in requiring fewer passes to get a close shave. The shave with the Series 9 Pro was every bit as close as shaving with my Merzur safety razor. The new head design design on the Series 9 is clearly better plus there is a new feature that works really well. The head can be locked in a fixed position or used in in a pivoting position. The instructions recommend the fixed head position for your neck and cheeks. While the pivoting head works well under your nose and on your chin. The pop up sideburn trimmer has been relocated to the rear of the shaver which is a much better location than on the front of the shaver. The new charging case is wonderful for traveling on extended trips. I am amazed at the dramatic improvement of the Braun Series 9 Pro over my previous Braun Series 7. The shaver is a beautiful example of high quality German Design, German Engineering, and German manufacturing. Yes it is made in Germany which I much prefer over Chinese mediocre manufacturing. I bought the Series 9 Pro 9465 though I was skeptical. I have always used a Phillips Norelco triple headed rotary shaver because I believed that it was the only thing short of a blade that could give me a clean shave with all the crazy directions my beard grows. The quality of the blades on my Norelco shavers have degraded badly over the years and I find myself grinding the razor against my face for 10 minutes trying to get a reasonable shave and having razor burn afterward. I also don't shave every day anymore and every day past day 1 I go, the worse the shaving experience got. This shaver is amazing! If I shave every day it takes me about 90 second to get a MUCH closer shave than my old shaver, and I even 3 days to test it out and after 3 days the save was just as close and only required a little more effort. I never believed a foil shave could work for me but I'm convinced now. The skin on my face is much happier, and I am too. Pros: Really close shave with minimal effort Very quick to get to that close shave Nice design and fits well in my hand Impressive cleaning/charging station (yet to really test it out) Cons: Its not loud but the sound is high pitched compared to my old shaver and a little uncomfortable VERY pricey, I hope its wicked durable like my Norelcos which each lasted over a decade with just blade replacements Not sure I would spend the extra $100 on the base station if I had the chance to buy it againScoR

Quick assessment: Hefty feel that provides a very close shave, but does take longer to cut every hair with more noise and vibration than other electric shavers. Pros: Extremely high quality and hefty feel. The razor feels “premium” and I doubt it will break or have any quality issues for a long time. I love the attention that was put into the quality. This razor also shaves closer than any other electric razor I’ve tried before. If you are focused on the end result of super smooth skin post shaving, this is a great razor. The shaving head pivots to meet the contour of your face, and glides easily. I did not experience any roughness, scratchiness or other concerns – the razor heads glide smooth without irritation. Cons: Noise and vibration. As this design is a “side-to-side” trimmer, there is a lot more noise and vibration in the trimmer action than I am used to. It is not a defect, just something to be aware. It wasn’t a problem for me most weekends, but during the weekdays it did wake up my wife as I was getting ready for work. Also, while the razor is Li-Ion and can be used cordlessly most of the time, I found it unfortunate that razor does not work WHILE PLUGGED IN as well. I would be worried about forgetting to charge it and then being stuck unable to shave in the morning while waiting for enough charge to get going. Not a huge issue either, but also something to be aware of. Final con I noticed was just the time it takes to properly shave. While the shave is super close, it isn’t super quick and does require a few passes to get everything just right.we98

Im pretty much certain its because the idiots dont clean it out after each use. It catches all the tiny hairs it shaves. So you have to take off the black cut guard after you use it and empty it. It literally takes 3 seconds. And it works really well. Yes you may have to go over a couple areas 2 or 3 times but it does the job well and its cheap. 100% recommendTrevor

My Bodygroomer 3100 gave up on me so I got this cheap replacement instead. Philips has unfortunately re-engineered the blades perhaps because it’s cheaper for them to manufacture as these are also very narrow.The narrow blades don’t trim that easily in one go compared to my old Norelco. It doesn’t pick up hair on all strokes even in the line of motion. You’ll find yourself making repeated strokes to cut through the hair and edges. I noticed despite my patient efforts some rough and grainy edges were left over in the end. If you could invest in something more expensive then do that.The saving grace here is that it uses a battery instead so can be replaced quickly with a flip instead of charging it. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve lost charge while trimming the land down under.Overall, would recommend if you’re on a budget and don’t mind spending a few extra minutes. I recently purchased the Braun MGK3220 6-in-1 Mens Beard Trimmer and Hair Clipper Kit and used it for the first time. The clipper kit comes complete with an electric clipper/trimmer, which has many different attachments for your beard as well as the hair on your head. It also includes an attachment to trim your nose and ear hair as well. The trimmer felt light in my hand and was easy to use. The clipper guard is adjustable with different length settings which makes it convenient to trim it up to the length that is good for you. The trimmer did a nice job cutting and did not pull on my whiskers at all. It does not contain the cut whiskers, so they basically flew all over the sink and counter as they were cut. Next, I tried the nose and ear attachment. I always wanted to have something to cut my nose and ear hairs, other then a pair of scissors, so Im glad this included in the kit. I wondered if it would pull on my nose and ear hairs, but it didnt pull at all. As a matter of fact, it almost tickles my nose, but would rather have that feeling than any pain. I was happy with the results and will be using this feature quite often. Over all, this is a decent trimmer for the price range. I exchanged a different Braun grooming kit that I had gotten my husband as a gift, that was horrible quality, for this one. I’m so happy I did. This has everything you need for a comfortable, smooth shave from head to toe. This is the worst trimmer/shaver I have ever had, including $12 generic ones. I have been using these things for about 15 years, do most of my own haircuts over that time, needed a new one and tried this out. Trimmed my beard with a negligible difference between a 2 and a 0. It was weak enough that I needed to make several passes even through already short hair trying to cut to a 3 length. The poor power then led to an error by me trying to make up for poor performance, so then I had to shave my head instead of looking like a whack-job, but the weak battery then died, so I plugged it in to use with electricity. No such luck – it works on battery use only and turns off when plugged in. I tried again after 5 minutes of charging to get about 5 seconds of power. Now I am sitting here writing this, waiting for both the battery to charge and for the soonest moment that I can return this mistake to Target. Even if they do not agree to refund me if they claim they can’t take it back used, I would rather leave it there for them to throw away then ever bring it back home.x

First impressions are very good with this shaver. It looks great and is a pleasure to hold. With it’s reassuring weight and solid construction, it feels like a high quality piece of kit. I've always been a little unhappy with the results of an electric shave over a wet shave, as I find electric leaves me with a noticeable stubble, which I'm not a fan of/ This shaver gives a really nice shave, almost to the same, smooth effect of a wet shave, without giving you the dreaded razor rash! As someone with a goatee beard, I really like the tiltable head. This allows me to position the cutting blades into a position where I'm able to cut around the beard without taking a piece of the beard away at the same time! The build quality of the razor is excellent; it looks nice, has an excellent feel, is not cheap plastic, and looks nice when put onto the supplied charging stand to keep its battery topped up and to prevent it from being knocked about, damaging the razor. The supplied carry case is also of good quality and more than adequate for transporting the razor if taking it away with you. I recently acquired this shaver and so far I must say I am pleasantly surprised by it's performance and what it can accomplish. For most of my adult life I have been wet shaving due to difficult, curly facial hair and sensitive skin, this shaver has certainly made this as a very good option if not a preference. The shaver is quick to use and doesn't irritate my skin. I like the shavers swiveling head which can angle itself to ensure all hairs are collected and cut with precision. The compact 40° swiveling head is great at getting into all those nooks and crannies, which with age I have more than a few. Braun's Sonic and AutoSense Technologies knows how to handle the curls to my beard after a few days growth. The 5-in-1 SmartCare Center is a joy to use charging and cleaning without a care! I have yet to fully test it's battery life, a Li-Ion battery that should last for 60 minutes, as the shaver is on charge most of the time, but will on some trips away later this year. I have no doubt that it will step up to the mark without an issues. Where this have come into it's own for me is the shaver is 100% waterproof. I now mostly use the shaver in the shower to aid shaving with softer bristles. This has been a great bonus. After 27months of the Braun series9 shaver it stopped working. Initially, it would put itself into a travel lock. This quickly escalated to the point where it would remain in a travel lock so the $600 plus shaver and cleaner were useless The replacement lasted only 15 months then the start button fell out so it can't be in the shower as the water can access the internal electrics. This unit also goes into travel lock on its own but with some mucking about I can still manage to shave at the moment but it is getting harder to force the shaver out of travel lock. Such a bad experience with a premium shaver. The after-sales service I would describe as quite poor. I had to complain about a premium product a lot to get a replacement shaver. The shaving performance is excellent being a little better than the top-of-the-line Panasonic. But I rated it low because of the ridiculously poor life of the product. The Panasonic shaver lasted many many years. Around 6 or 7 yearsgummy

Opened box to clippers and small brush was missing. Decided to try the clippers on my hand before actually using on my head to make sure it was a low, clean cut, but when I started I noticed that no hair was being removed and so I look closer at clippers and the thin aluminum part was chipped. This chipped piece shouldn’t of stopped clippers from cutting. Clippers never removed a single strand of hair. Couldn’t return per store policy, only was able to return when I didn’t like the product quality.Pierre

I've had this razor for a few years now. Prior to that, I had the Braun PocketGo (same razor, different color/name). I also have a more expensive top-of-the-line Braun electric razor, too. But … if I had to chose only one electric razor, it would be this "cheap" little mobile shaver. It simply is a great product, gives a great shave (for an electric razor), and won't break the bank. I like the fact that it uses BATTERIES (two AA-size batteries) rather than a rechargeable battery. It makes it more mobile. I keep one of these in my vehicle, and the other in my briefcase. I actually prefer using a DE safety razor, but that takes more time to use (prep and shave). So, if I'm in a hurry or just want easy, then my Braun MobileShaver is the winner. A good shaver to keep in the car. I've had 3 or 4 other travel razors, and this is by far the best. It's large enough to handle easily, most are too small. The "Tac" shaver that Wal Mart sells is an example of too small. I recently bought one of those, and threw it away after a few weeks. I decided to try this shaver after reading the reviews and was really impressed by its performance. Although battery powered and small enough to put in your pocket this shaver gets the job done. Gets me a close shave that is very smooth…I do have to pass back and forth a few times but it really does a clean job. It also is waterproof and can be used in the shower and tub if you're the type who likes to shave while bathing. Comes with a small detachable brush for hair removal. I love the protective switch to prevent from accidental turn ons and running down your batteries if you are traveling with it. It’s very close in style and function to the Remington all in one grooming set, but there is an unfortunate difference. First, it may be more powerful than the Remington, but the blade is almost too sharp, as I nearly cut myself at least three times. Second and more importantly, it is a struggle to remove the beard combs from the initial blade without taking off that blade at the same time. I found that I had to hold the trimmer in place to be able to take the comb off. These attachments are too secure and they shouldn’t be. I bought the Wahl unit to replace my broken down Remington, which had lasted for more than two years, thinking that it might be better. In this case I was wrong. For your safety, go with the Remington.Matt

Had to replace my Other beard trimmer as it started to malfunction. I have a Wahl Hair Clipper set which is great. This trimmer however is the worst I have ever used. The attachments are poorly designed and lead to poor trimming. The blade itself has a hard time trimming a single wild hair from my beard or mustache. The motor bogs down very quickly and I have to oil it several times during a single grooming session after a full nights charge. I wish I would have kept the packaging so I could return it. I now need to buy another trimmer as this is unacceptable and irritating to use.Nicholas

DO NOT BUY. I recently decided to "upgrade" from my Gillette All-Purpose Styler after having it for 2 years. Was very excited to move try out this Trimmer (especially since it came with a charger and was eco-friendly – i.e. I didn't have to keep buying batteries). Having any kind of good expectations for this trimmer was my first mistake… Do yourself a favor and just never buy this product… First of all – it's cheap. It FEELS cheap. I spent $20 for the Gillette trimmer and thought THAT was cheap. Paying $30+ for this product is RIDICULOUS. ***NOTE: I know this product is now on sale and is going for a cheaper price. If it were me, I wouldn't pay $5 for this crap. Don't waste your time. Second – This product LITERALLY falls apart. I would go to trim my beard, shave my face, etc. and the top would just pop right off. When you go to switch heads (i.e. from trimmer to buzzer to any of the other 5 faces this trimmer has, it would loosen the top. So guess what? Next time you shave that sucker is coming right off immediately and you have to hold the top down. Just ridiculous and poor quality. Third – THE BATTERY LIFE SUCKS. Again, was pumped to move from a battery-requiring trimmer to a rechargeable trimmer. Boy was I wrong… I would charge this trimmer for hours, even DAYS… The longest this trimmer has EVER lasted me was 20 minutes max. It would average 5-10 minutes. Not even kidding I got halfway through a shave and it died (again… takes hours to charge) so I was left with half of a beard. Had to use my wife's razor and straight shave the rest of my face. Will never forget that. Coming full circle – just save yourself the pain and regret and buy Gillette. OR – pay for a nicer brand. Whatever you do – don't buy Wahl. I hate to leave a one star review. I've always been impressed with the quality and performance of Remington products. My first impression was that it didn't feel very solid. It performed fine for the short time it lasted, however, it charged once and then would never accept another charge. I have a similar trimmer from a different brand that is still usable after several years. This other non-Remington trimmer will no longer hold a charge for longer than a few minutes but it still performs well while plugged in with the charging cable. I have used a bunch of different electric razors over the years. Having three sons, my wife and I also invested in hair clippers. Getting older forced me to invest in a nose and ear hair trimmer. This Remington All In One grooming kit has made it so I can out everything else in the back of the cupboard and keep this up front. The full size trimmer works well for my beard and the detail shaver is great for getting the right angles and edges on the beard to look great. The nose and ear trimmer is great for those unwanted, pesky, hairs that seem to pop up whenever you are in a hurry. The full size trimmer with the 12mm comb is great for maintining a straight, neat looking hairline on my boys after hair cuts. The cordless power battery claims to have a 60 minute runtime on one charge, I found thatbto be extremely accurate. At first when I bought this, I was thinking how something so strange looking can trim my noise hairs without cutting me? It turned out to be much easier to use than expected and pretty self-explanitorial. It does cut the majority of my unwanted noise hairs, but I usually finish off the rest with a pair of small noise scissors. I have used quite a few full body trimmers and most either do well on your face and not your body or the opposite. This one is great on my very sensitive skin. It has 12 lengths to choose and it really does give a close smooth shave. It works well on thick, course body hair as well! It does hold a charge for at least 30 minutes. I really like this grooming kit. It has eight different attachments depending on what you are grooming. The blades are sharp and give me a good shave. I expected a lot more from this shaver when compared to an older lower end model Philips I have and still use. All the fancy additions on this shaver was very appealing, but the performance seem to be lacking. I currently use an older lower end philips shaver that has the trimmer pop up on the back side. This shaver does not have a pivoting head or any fancy self cleaning system, but it is much more convenient and for some reason, shaves better than this newer version – even though i havent changed the blades in months. This older one also allows me to shave while charging – something this new model is not capable of. Here is a list of things that I didn't like about this shaver. 1)The pivoting head allows to contour my face/jawline better, but then it is too flimsy and sometimes does not shave the area that needs to be shaved. This results in having to make multiple passes and sometimes even to hold onto the shaving head to get the spots i need. 2)You cannot use this shaver when charging. Although this shaver does have a quick charge feature, but if you only have a few minutes to spare, you are out of luck my friend. 3) You need to detach the shaving head just to use the trimmer. Because I don't shave often, i always have to use the trim my facial hair before shaving. This is just too much of a hassle. I love the older model where you can just press a button and the trimmer pops out. There is some benefits of the newer model that I do like. 1)The Self Cleaning process, although i usually just wipe down the shaver, this cleaning process does a 100 times better job and cleaning. 2)You can use this wet! I would have never imagined using shaving gel with an electric shaver, but you can with this. I didn't try this because the reason why i went to electric is to avoid the hassle of using shaving cream haha. 3)Travel case! Who doesn't love travel cases with their "tools"? This allows me to store the shaver where ever I want and the nice sleek case won't draw any attention to it. I can have it laying out on the coffee table and no one can say "EW! Prior to using the Philips Norelco Electric Shaver 5700, I was using a well liked Panasonic ES-LA93, which at the time it was purchased about 5 years ago was their top of their lineup. I used the Philips Norelco for a few days, to find out how good it performed, wet or dry, and I have not been disappointed with the results. This model is the complete package, as it includes besides the shaver, the cleaning station with the cleaning cartridge, which definitely leaves the unit in top condition for the next use. Have to point out that rinsing the unit with warm water also works very good, specially if one learns to open the top for a more detailed job. Between Dry and Wet options, I favor by far the wet, not only for this shaver, but previously owned as well. It allows me to lather my face completely with the Nivea Gel, and it seems to work very, even though I have to admit I have been saddled with a persistent thick beard most of my adult life, so I usually never wait too long between shaves. The difficult neck area became no match against the performance of the shaver, and with the added Turbo Mode for those tedious areas, the overall results were very satisfying. I agree wholeheartedly wit the advice to give this shaver, and really all electric shavers, a period of no less than 21 days, for maximum adaptability to each unique face. The charging time is efficient, and with the many icons letting the user know different status of the shaver, it simply looks pretty cool to the naked eye. I will probably keep this baby fully outfitted, for I like its performance so far, and I have no reason to believe it will perform even better. Compared to my old Panasonic I mentioned above, is like a breath of clean air, sort of speak. I received a free sample to thoroughly test and give my honest review and impressions of the Philips Shaver 5700. Overall, my impressions were very positive, yet there are a few things that should be considered in deciding a purchase of this product. I have been an electric shaver user for many years, including previous Philips products, so I hope these comments will prove useful. First, my positive comments: 1) The charge time is actually very quick. It only took an hour to charge to full capacity, allowing the shaver to operate for at least 10 days on the initial charge. 2) Quiet. Having used electric shavers over the years, the one common factor was they were all noisy. The Shaver 5700 is quiet. This is the very first thing that my wife noticed! 3) Quick cutting. My beard hairs grow in several different directions. When I do use a razor, I have to cut up, down and diagonally in all directions to get a close and smooth shave. Previous electric shavers I have used also required motions in different directions to get an acceptable shave. The cutting heads and their tilting on the Shaver 5700 allowed for a minimum of shaving passes to produce a very smooth shave. 4) Easy to operate and to hold. There is no need to guess where the switch is and the curved design of the shaver fits comfortably in my hand. The battery life gauge is easy to see and understand. And, there is a very helpful `Time to Clean` icon that will display after shaving. 5) Very easy to keep clean. Besides the fact that the base cleans and lubricates the heads, there is a simple button to press that allows the head to flip up so that the shavings can be quickly rinsed away. Exceptional! 6) Over a year`s worth of use, costs should be comparable and even lower than using a razor. Now for the points that may not be so positive. However, for some users, these points may be very minor considerations: 1) There is a lot of packaging. There really isn`t much assembly, but there are three separate little cardboard boxes and some (clever) cardboard spacing to maneuver through to unpack the shaver, along with several plastic bags and twist ties. 2) The tilt of the head combined with the individual pivoting of the cutting blades is supposed to allow the shaver to maneuver around the contours of your face. However, the blades and head would tend to jam around my chin. I had to hold the head steady to get around this. 3) Since the charging base is also a head cleaner, you will need to set aside a good bit of counter real estate to place this base. 4) Remembering to push down the cap of the base onto the shaver to begin charging. 5) Swapping the shaving head with the sideburn trimmer can take a bit of patience. A moderate amount of force is necessary to position either part. Just something you have to get used to doing to get it right. Overall? This product performs very well and should be on your short list of an electric shaver purchase! It deserves a solid four-stars!GerryR
