I bought this saw as I have other Dewalt tools that I love. It's been used for a few home projects (weekend warrior). I loved this saw in its function, weight, cordless capability. BUT, after only 1 to 2 hours total run time over 18 months it has failed. It's never been dropped or mistreated in any way, but something has gone wrong with the internal circuitry. I'm really disappointed in the quality and durability of this unit.Skippy

Rarely am I 100% satisfied with any product, but I have to say, I absolutely love this saw. It feels great in the hand, it's lightweight and easily controlled enough to make relatively straight cuts without the assistance of a guide, and it has plenty of power to boot. The brake on the saw is a great feature too as there's not much waiting for the blade to slow down before you can say, set it down somewhere. It also was particularly nice when I was doing something stupid and the saw kicked back on me. It will start to lose some of its power as the battery is nearly drained but I just switch out for a fresh one in those circumstances but for me that's rare as I am woodworker/DIYer so I'm not cutting 2×4's all day with it. Though I did build a shed and working all day and in that case I would usually only have to switch out a fresh 5.0 Ah battery once.DIYRob

I was very hyped up when these new saws came out. But I was a little skeptical at first because I heard that these are made in china. A local representative was saying it was incredible after seeing it at a training. Claimed it cut like never before. Being a long-time user of Skilsaw worm-drive circular saws, I was willing to give it a try. When I got it home and tested it out, I was BLOWN AWAY! It cuts 30% faster than any other 7-1/4" worm drive circular saw I have ever used. Plus, it uses the same four stator windings that Skilsaw have been using for years. Another subcontractor on a job was raving about his new Dewalt DWS535 and Makita 5377MG worm-drive saws and how great they were and how fast they cut, blah blah blah. After hearing him go on and on for a day, I showed him this. Cuts faster, bogs down less, and gets WAAAAYYYY more power and torque than both of them. Since he tried this one out, he hasn't spoken a single word – especially when he found out that this was ONE KILOGRAM LIGHTER than his other saw. Going back to the power of this saw, the motor is 3.25 horsepower, or about 2430 watts (when it's not connected to the gearbox). This higher power can be achieved due to the fact that four stator windings reduce the amount of turns per coil and thus the amount of resistive losses caused by parasitic electrical currents circulating within the motor. This allowed Skilsaw to cram a motor as powerful as those on the Milwaukee 7-1/4" sidewinder saws into a much smaller and lighter package. Now I have a complaint about this saw, and I'm probably the only person in the world to have this complaint, and that is this saw's lack of a 22.5-degree bevel stop. The Makita and Dewalt saws have this feature and that makes cutting 22.5-degree angles much easier. Additionally, this saw could use 2-7/16" cutting depth since it seems to have more than enough power to handle its current capacity. I have never been let down by non-homeowner-grade Skilsaw saws. Take care of them and they will give you a million years of trouble-free use. This saw continues my good experience of being blown away by what this new motor can do. Keep your yellow, red, and orange worm-drive saws. I'll keep my Skilsaw saws that never spend even one second in the repair shop!!DCSE
I’ve used worm drive saws before, so opening the box to the 7 ¼” Lightweight Magnesium Worm Drive, upon first inspection didn’t see anything spectacular. When I lifted it out of the box I could tell it was built lighter than my Makita. The Diablo 24-tooth saw blade came with the saw but needed to be installed, no big deal, the wrench for the Skilsaw was conveniently located at the rear of the frame. Skil seems to store many of their wrenches intuitively in their saws which makes it easier to locate as opposed to the 43 other handtools I have and need to search for the proper wrench. The saw was full of oil as the manual indicated and I was ready to get to work. I was re-building my deck when I received this (actually tearing the old one down and re-building it) so I was ready to put this saw to the test. I cut out the old deck and went to framing and sawing, noticing the power of this saw and the torque when it fires up. It is about 3.5 pounds lighter than my other saw, well-built solid and even has a tool hanging attachment. For the next two weeks, I did everything with this saw including cutting 7 stringers, framing joists, and even occasionally cutting Trex Composite Decking. I recently purchased a 7 1/4” Lightweight worm drive Skilsaw. I’ve been using circular saws for more than 40 years. I have used a worm drive saw when I was young but have only owned direct drive saws where the blade is on the right hand side where I cannot see it. I’ve always been able to rip an 1/8th “ strip off a board with a direct drive saw without using a fence, just by holding the base firmly between my thumb and forefinger, even though you can’t see the blade. But with your new worm drive I am able to get 1/32” slices off a 2×6, slice after slice, because I can now see the blade and the material I’m cutting simultaneously. Without using a tape measure I am able to take a 3/16” notch along the flat portion of a sheet of 3/8” plywood as if you were cutting a mortise and tenon. It has plenty of power and is no heavier than the B&D Builder's Sawcat that it is replacing that I purchased new in 1985. Its performance is a delight. Bearing flexes so much any load on the saw and it cuts a curve…. very frustrating also the laser does not line up with the flimsy riveted guide that does not work anyway. Same for the Jigsaw it deflects to about 30 degrees trying to cut straight also useless. I finessed the saw tried different woods blades etc to eliminate my lack of skills… junk tools.Daniel
This is a perfectly fine saw. Not as powerful as a 15 amp saw but it that's to be expected. I wouldn't recommend this saw to someone who would be using it for construction day in day out, but for light to medium duty use it gets the job done. The laser sight is a nice bonus but it has to be fairly dark for it to be visible. My major issue with this saw is the blade. It's terrible. It binds constantly and kicks back way too often. I would find myself pushing way too hard to make a cut. I replaced it with a carbide tooth blade and the difference was night and day. It went from struggling to make the most basic cuts to cutting through everything like a hot knife through butter. I would not recommend this saw if you don't want to have to purchase a decent blade for it. If you're fine with that extra cost, or if you already have some blades you could use, then this is a good saw.Matt Pat
I used the saw for the first time a few days after it arrived. I didn’t know it was possible for a saw to be terrible, but this one is awful. I was doing a basic straight cut through pine. Just ripping a few inches from the length. The saw veered and caught on goodness knows what, chugged and smoked. I attempted to return it and was refused, simply provided with a new blade. Checked the date code on the bottom of the saw when I got home and sure enough it was one listed on dewalts recall list. Returned the next day no troubles so it's not coastal fault. Switch might fail and cause the saw to start up just plugging it in or not shut off when releasing the switch. My husband is newly retired and has his little workshop for his projects and the honey-do list I presented him with a month or so after he retired (didn't want to ambush him with it right away). We live in a 45-year-old house that has lots of places that need updating and now that we're past doing all of the big stuff we can concentrate on updating and fixing the cosmetic things. This Kreg ACS 2000 saw system is perfect for some of these projects my husband has to do now. He said that the saw is accurate, the blade sharpness is excellent, he really likes the anti-kickback control and the whole system is well thought out. He loves the bag to store it in and thinks that is a wonderful addition to the set. He would like to make one suggestion though. He wishes the guide track could be broken down into two pieces to make storage easier. He would like to see them in a 2-piece snap together configuration if that would be possible and still keep be able to keep the strength as good as it is in a one piece. Other than that, that he thinks this is probably the best addition to his workshop in a long time.Southmom
Wish we would have had this saw years ago as it would have made a lot of renovation projects a lot easier! The saw is very powerful (it plugs in so no worries of batteries running down). The saw is designed that when we ripped a narrow piece of OSB board it had the smoothest splinter-free cut I've ever seen for a circular saw. LOVE the attachable dust bag for mess-free cutting and keeping sawdust out of the air. Adjustment tools store right into the handle of the saw. The saw can be adjusted to a tilted position to allow for bevel cuts. We love the guide track that is designed to go with this saw. It prevents kickback. The guide has a grippy bottom to it that holds to the board and doesn't slide around. This takes the guesswork out of cutting a long straight line. I've watched my grandfather and dad over the years use a variety of word working saws and assist my husband with renovation projects we have done a lot of measuring and re-measuring to ensure a straight line. If we would have had this saw years ago it would have made a lot of projects easier. Even though I don't operate saws often I found it easy to use and maneuver. My husband and I are very impressed with this kit and look forward to using it for all our upcoming projects! Oh, and the saw came with a very roomy and handy bag for storage and transportation! This track saw system works like the high priced saws at a price I could afford. Accurate, clean cuts. Dust collection using the bag is great. Fills fast though so you need to empty it often. When using vacuum dust collection, I'm really impressed. Bought the additional track to rip a full eight feet. Had to buy the connection bars separate. Kreg missed the mark on this. Should have been included with the extra track. One other issue is that the set screws for the track connectors are a different size (smaller) than the other screws used on the saw. No place to store the extra wrench. I'll eventually drill out a tap the connectors so I can use set screws that use the same size as the wrench stored in the saw handle. Stupid design mistake on Kreg's part. Other than those very minor issues, the track saw and the track is great.Jicand

I purchased this to be a lifesaver and problem solver, an excellent product but not right for me.I am used to a right hand cut.I prefer a right hand cut It seems safer on the right hand side. If you clamp a straight edge on your work piece to guide the saw you can avoid a crooked cut and avoid dust in your eyes. If you know how to set your straight edge you can focus on safety and not really need to sight your cut . You can check it as you cut. The fact that the motor comes out the rear, similar to the ancient Egyptian pharaoh's elongated skull allows better clamping space. That is good. A balanced handle should be integrated on top of the motor housing with the switch on it. The safety lock button could use improvement. The motor has a sweet sound. This saw has great potential but needs more refinements. I would sure like to have the new redesigned one. My objective was to reduce saw dust and be able to do more indoor cutting.Let me try to sum this up. There are things that need to be redesigned on this saw. 1. Right hand cut 2. A handle as it feels awkward and potentially unsafe and uncomfortable. 3. stiffen up the shoe plate and see that the edges ride a straight edge and do not tend to roll up on and over it. 4. Dust collection rig via small shop vac a great plus. 5. This saw is almost there…A few more design changes and perfection and it will become the greatest sidekick ever made. And likely legendary as the most beloved saw of all time. I hope to see this happen. Please turn this saw into the timeless classic I have described. I bought this product a couple of days ago because I needed something like this to strip siding off of my home. I am in the process of adding an extension onto my bathroom to get more space. I had considered another brand and almost bought it. However, this product had more flexibility in features that I thought I might need someday buy did not think I needed it for my current project. The first thing I noticed was the "tightness" of the product. The blade went on snugly, the angle plate was snug, and guide went in and secured easily and firmly. I found myself using the angle adjustment feature a lot more than I expected. The setting and latching of the angle was easy to do and did not shift during the cut. The power was adequate for the job I had. I cut 2 X 4s without any hesitation in the cut. One thing I did notice was that my hands are not large so I had to remember to use my longest finger to wrap around the saw for one-hand operation. Not a big deal for me after that and I found I could control the saw more accurately that way, anyway. Great product. I will be using this saw for a LOT of my projects in the future. I guess the best I can say about this product is that it does what I expect it to do, does it easily, does it precisely, and at a great price.jm75979
I have had this saw for a couple of weeks now and have had the pleasure of its use for cutting both wood and plastic. The power is amazing, even cutting 2×4's. The saw kerf is narrow so the saw cuts with very little effort. I just finished a project involving 1" thick HDPE and the vacuum attachment really came in handy. Attached to my shop vac, the saw made almost no mess at all when cutting the 1" polyethylene. The cuts were so smooth that no sanding was required. The saw is easy to handle and has already become my portable circular saw of choice for most projects. When considering this saw, I also thought about the smaller Versacut saw but opted for the compact circular saw instead because of the increased depth capacity. It would be nice if Rockwell included a carrying case for the saw, rip guide, and extra blades like they did for the Versacut. I bought a military tool bag (19"x9"x6") with zipper closure that works well, however. In summary, the Rockwell Compact Circular Saw is a well made tool that can stand up to a lot of use even when cutting material approaching its maximum depth. Real quick I bought this for a quick very small project. First, nicely packed. Easy to put together. Only glitch was no directions as to where the wrench was. Remember I said I was a novice. Fortunately a handy neighbor showed me where it was in the saw itself. Starting it I noticed it was very powerful. When I tried the 1st cut I realized that the saw could not complete what I needed because the black housing in front of the blade prevented my getting the cut close up to the wall. My handy neighbor told me that I would have to saw off the remaining inch using a hand saw. Fortunately he lent me one to complete the job. Also had some difficulty getting they tge thickness of what I was cutting. Again tge neighbor showed me it was because I somehow had loosened the bottom black plate. Once it was tightened it went thru it fine. In conclusion my 'novice brain' still tells me there had to be a way to get the initial cut closer to the wall either completing the job or leaving the smallest piece needing to be hand sawed.Mr800th
I am happy with the Skil saw, except for the button placement in order to run the saw. I am a woman who likes to be "handy" so I bought the saw. The main problem with the saw is the placement of the button I have to press in order to run it. The button is too far away from the trigger and it's hard to hold it down and squeeze the trigger at the same time. I think power tools should be made more easy to use for women.M Potvin

As a woodworking hobbyist and enthusiast, I can appreciate the luster of big name brand tools. However, seeing as my needs rarely warrant that price tag, I've found WEN products not only adequate but exceptional for my needs. Of course, if you're looking for a track saw to withstand the ages and all the beating you can throw at it, this might not be the choice for you. But I'll say this one's perfect for the hobbiest or occasional woodworker. The track is easily assembled and sturdy enough for my use. Operating the saw took a bit of a learning curve, but really I had it down in 10 mins. The blade itself is adequate. I've mostly run it across 3/4 maple plywood, which it handles without trouble. The cuts are straight, the track was sturdy. I really have no complaints. It simply did the job I wanted it to.Matt
This is such a great price for a plunging track saw. I combined it with 110 inches of Powertec tracks to build a big fridge-microwave cabinet. Everything came out clean and square. Made good use of the score-setting as I was cutting 3/4 inch melamine coated fibreboard, to keep the edges mostly clean. Note I put on a Wen 56 tooth blade for this, not using the oem 42 tooth blade.Scott in BC

The blade it comes with struggles w easy tasks and just burns wood.

Basically, this is a good product and it cuts great but, you might have the following problems. 1: the trigger is plastic and might not complete the connection when pulled. My unit would not work out of the box but I knew it was something simple so I went through the whole thing. 2: the wand that extends the say connects to the saw with a plugin type of connection that is up inside the saw. This was loose inside my saw and only made a connection when I would shake the unit. So I went inside and twisted the little prongs OOOO so slightly to make the connection and then it worked fine. So after about 2 hours on my work bench I had a perfect unit. If you have time and are so inclined to fix this little saw, you will have a real bargin at about $50, which is about 1/2 of what others are. And who knows, yours may be perfectly fine out of the box. JUst remember, if it doesn't work right away that it is an electrical issue from the switch to the saw through the aluminum wand and is pretty easy to fix. Just don't lose any screws of pieces of plastic, everthing has a purpose.Jim

I am a farmboy now living on a half acre lot. So I thought I'd get me a city boy saw to trim and claer a bit. Thought electric would be enough. Well we had a set of pine tree fall from the ice storm, at the base about 18" across. This Wen 16" electric saw easily did all the necessary work. Plenty of power. So long as I had cord enough I could just keep going. I am pleasantly surprized! For the price, this is a power house! So long as I keep the bar oil flowing and keep the chain sharp, this saw will do about everything I need. I bought this because its lite weight. and did not want worry of starting pull cord gas one. Used it after Texas blizzard of 2021 broke off limbs of my trees the size of my arm. Worked very well. I’ve owned and used gas chainsaws for about 40 years, mostly in the backwoods to cut down and slice up dead trees for firewood. Occasionally I have used gas saws around my home to cut up felled trees after a windstorm or limb overgrown trees. I bought a 16” WEN Model 4017 out of curiosity: “Are plug-in electric chainsaws useful?” “Could my wife or grown kids use one?” Here are my thoughts after using it just a short while: If you already own a gas saw, you don’t need one of these. If you don’t, and have limbs or small trees to cut down and slice up within 100 feet of an electric plug, yes, these are useful. Compared to a gas chainsaw, this electric one is simpler to use and maintain. It is also inexpensive. A decent gas chainsaw with a 16” bar will cost you $200 – $300. This chainsaw cost much less. Initial assembly and chain adjustment was a snap following the printed instructions. As others have noted, you need to purchase “bar oil” or 30-SAE oil as it is not included. This is not a big deal as you would have to buy some soon anyway. It comes with 16” Oregon brand bar and chain. A 16” bar, in my opinion, is a good length for use around the yard. Replacement chains and bars are available. It also comes with a nice-fitting scabbard to cover the sharp chain when not in use. This WEN cuts well. Not as fast as my more powerful gas Stihl with its 20” bar, but fast enough and with good control. It is a comfortable weight. Fairly light, nicely balanced. It’s not intimidating. Unlike a gas chainsaw, this WEN is not variable speed; just full speed or off. I did not find this to be a problem. Nor did I find the lack of a chain brake a problem. A significant and deciding factor in selecting this particular saw was its amperage. It uses 12 amps. Others use less or more. Less amperage means less power – and you need enough to power a 16” bar. However, more than 12 amps requires owning a 12-gauge extension cord. A 12-gauge 100 foot cord costs as much as the chainsaw. Really. This WEN uses 14-gauge for a 100’ cord which costs considerably less than 12-gauge – and is easier to handle. Another plus: It is quieter than a gas powered saw. Your neighbors will appreciate this. (There is something about a gas chainsaw – the noise and blue smoke – that bothers more than a few people.) You can also impress some neighbors by pointing out its low carbon footprint. After years of watching ads for these double cut saws I decided to purchase one to use cutting sheet metal for the roofing on my home. I was very disappointed in the lack of power and the near impossibility of cutting a straight line no matter how slow or how carefully I cut. It also got so hot when using it I could not hold it for long. Only did one full cut, about 48" and threw it aside and used a different tool to finish. Very impressed with the saw. Heavier duty than I expected. I bought for use on 26 gauge steel roofing. One profile is standing seam with 1 3/8” legs. The other is R-Panel with 1 1/4” deep main channels. Saw’s description should not cut all the way through either, but a little rotation while cutting slices right through the full depth without having to flip the steel. I never thought a “circular saw” could cut steel roofing as easily as it does. Hard to express how fast the cutting is or should be, but I’d say to saw through 26 gauge steel without burrs or chatter, this saw is almost as fact as a 7 1/4” circular saw with a reasonably new blade cutting through 2x4s or 2x6s. I’ve only used it for a week or so, but so far very impressed and pleased.Jon
I am a field mechanic and welder by trade and I was looking for something to cut my cost on cutoff wheels. I bought this hoping it would replace the need for cutoff wheels entirely but looks like I will still have to keep buying them. The problem is two things really when you can't see where your blades are cutting at and move the saw of of a straight line the blades will split and leave a strip of metal in-between the blades and therefore screwing up your cut. If there is anyway to make it where the blade flex less and separate that would be great and almost fix the flaws with the tool. The other gripe is that there is nothing flat on the bottom so you get a 90 degree straight cut like a typical skil or circular saw has. Fix those two issues and you have a hell of a tool.Yeti

I truly like Ryobi products and I wish that they produced a professional line of tools. Although their products are reliable and very well-designed they tend to be more for the weekend warrior rather than the day-in-day-out, tough as nails on the job site worker. They don't seem to be aiming for the heavy commercial and Industrial construction end-user and their prices reflect. I have owned several Ryobi tools in the past and was always pleased with her performance in relation to the price. However, if I needed a tool the needs to perform reliably under real jobsite conditions for years to come RYOBI would not be my first choice. I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews for this little saw – perhaps some of these people weren’t using it correctly. Previous reviews said the built in blade bent and didn’t cut well. I have a feeling that people were starting the blade against the edge of what they were cutting rather than starting the saw first and then moving into their lumber. I had no issues with unusual rattling or vibration either – I am wondering if the blade wasn’t mounted properly or the nuts weren’t put in the right positions by other users. I had bought extra blades out of concern and they never came out of the package. The default blade was more than fine to cut 2×6 beams, hardwood plywood sheets, with no issues at all! It doesn’t come with a dust guard and the little hole that acts as a dust guard ends up getting blocked as the safety guard moves over it and the saw dust speed everywhere anyway. That is okay honestly, for $60, it’s not about bells and whistles but getting the cutting done with no issue.smTO

After much deliberation on which plunge saw best suited my needs I went for the Makita SP 6000 corded version.Okay so it may not have the fineness of the Mafel or Festool but for what I need it does the job beautifully. I've been using it to cut down sheet materials and worktops leaving an almost faultlessly clean cut. The scribing function is very easy to use, as is the bevel adjustment and depth stop. The guide tracks are compatible with the Festool system so you can add a host of accessories if you need them.
