Best Electric Shaver For Brazilian (2025 Update)

When I was introduced to shaving, I tried my Dad's Sunbeam, Remington foil and a DE analog. I ended up doing the DE and got tired of nicks and cuts and skin irritation. in 1972, I started an almost 50 year relationship with Norelco "rotary" products. I went as high as $200+ in that line and it seems they have plateaued as far as technology advances are concerned. I was fed up with the poor quality of replacement blades available today, so I began a search for a replacement shaver. After reading numerous reviews, mostly pro, I decided to give the Arc5 a shot. All I can say is if you find yourself in my spot, do not hesitate. Get this shaver with the cleaning/charging unit, STAT! PROS: The closest shave I've gotten, next to a razor, EVER. Did NOT irritate my skin (I have sensitive skin) Larger head > shorter shave time Flex head follows your facial contours (jaw line, neck, etc.) Beard "sensor" adjusts to your beard's current length. Trimmer does a good job. Shaver has a "built-in" cleaning function, which you can use if you're travelling, or in between "tank" cleanings. Head size and shaving method delivers a faster shave. The cleaning/charging base has a "Dry/charge" function. CONS: Price of replacement heads and cleaning solution concentrate. I got this in anticipation of my upcoming birthday (thank you, honey!) and read the manual. I HAD to check the unit out, so I put some pre-shave lotion on and charged the shaver. Some people complain about the size of the shaver. It really is comparable to the Norelco I was using, but the shape of the head is what speeds your shave along. (It covers more territory). Since there is usually a break-in time for new shaving methods, I expect my shaves to improve over the next week. I used primarily an up and down motion on my face, then I changed direction and orientation on my chin and neck. One complaint I avoided is on my upper lip I have a moustache, so I didn't have a problem with trying to get a close shave there. After finishing and evaluating the shave quality, I took the head off, and rinsed it and the shaver under the tap. Then, I wiped excess water off both and reassembled the unit and dropped it into the cleaning/charging base and put it on dry. I haven't used the cleaning function of the tank yet, but will update my review after I've done so. For things like shaving my ears, I have a companion Panasonic trimmer that I use for things no shaver can do. Summary: Get one! You have 30 days to decide whether you want to keep it.RubberToe

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this razor. after a month using every other day I havent experienced any of the negatives I read about. I use it on my head and neck below my beard. I found if I use it every other day or 3rd day on my head it shaves easy and as smooth as a razor. Like all electric razors it does not do well with long hair. the only draw back i have is the razor head is large. Which helps speed up the process doing my whole head but little difficult around the top of my ear to sideburn section. I still think its best razor I have ever used in 20 years though. The charging/cleaning station is so nice. Yea it can be a little loud on the cleaning portion but its the razor turning on and off so what's the difference when you use it? Travel case and option to still sharge it with just the cord is well thought out. Mean I dont have to lug the station with me when I go away for a week. But after 20 use Im still at 80 to 85 percent So i likely wouldnt need to charge it anyway.Abult

I was very hesitant to try an electric razor, considering my beard is full and thick and grows quickly. I had been using a DE razor and wet shaving for the last few years. I tired of the time and blood. I researched the closest cutting electric razor sand this one seemed to be among the best. Turns out that I like it even more than I had hoped. It shaves close and quickly. It allows me to shave daily or go 3 days and handles both situations with comfort. Been using for about a month and I will never go back to blades and cream and the hassle. If I'm careful and focused this razor is basically as close a blade. A solid shave takes under 4 minutes and I experience no issues at all even with somewhat sensitive skin. If you're considering an electric razor, I'd start right here. The closeness, comfort, and convenience will truly change your mornings.Berg

This is a great, Great Razor!!! It must be charged for the night or a few hours when you first get it though. You don't need to leave it plugged in though. Once it has been charged fully, you will have several days worth of power. It is very quiet, it gives a really close shave and it is really smooth on the face. In addition, it is very simple to clean. You can removed the guard and it reveals the blades of the razor. You just run some water over the blades and it removes the hair clippings.bj987keller

The Good: Great feel, grip, shave, ease of cleaning, quick charge time, trimmer is handy for sideburns to shape them up between haircuts. The Bad: I have now gone through two of these in about 2 years….the first lasted about 18 mos, the second, about 5. Problem? For whatever reason, after awhile, it will not charge. I also use shaving cream when I get out of the shower and use the razor, rinse it before, during and after use….and always and I mean always, after the period of time, you get up, plug it in, go in the shower, come out, dead. It won't charge. My guess? The Lithium Ion Batts. While ALL batteries have a lifespan, they should be much longer thant this. I rinse the head during shaving (shaving cream buildup and hair) 2-3 times while shaving paying attention to let the water drain down 90-95%….I don't think it's water intrusion….as deep as this thing goes is running it under the faucet head down? I used both the old and new charger….the new one shows all power lights on for about 2-3 seconds, goes dim, dead……there is something about these batteries that are not right….I am off to Walmart this mornign to get a 3rd in less than 3 years THIS time WITH the cheap warranty…..I have used Brauns for over 30 years and the batteries always seem to be the issue…do NOT pack them in luggage that will go in the cargo hold or you will find them dead, not chargeable when you get to your destination…this one is ONLY used at home. I take a cheap corded Braun on the road and it's about 20 years old now, still works but it's a dry shave…irritating…….I like the ability to use shaving cream for a much more comfortable shave but, this battery thing is aggravating…..over the 30 years I have gone through multiple 3, 5, 7 and 9 series razors…they ALL have battery failures eventually…so you end up buying a new one…..why? Because the other brands suck MORE. I have had Remington, Norelco (couldn't shave close with a gun to it's head), Chinese knockoffs even a small cordless from Harbor Freight that despite is size and slow speed delivered a great shave until it quit working…..it seems that if a rechargeable battery is run for 20 mins a day max, 6-7 days a week, it SHOULD last more than 6 months….never dropped, never abused, always left open on the counter after rinsing to let the head and razor dry after separated….still died….ridiculous…..I only hope the warranty is worth something when the next one croaks….no warning either….just dies…..still the best brand overall….Terry

I've never really liked wet dry shavers but this one changed my mind. it shaves flawless and leaves you face as smooth as using a traditional razor. i love that it's wireless and it charges very quickly and stays charged for a great amount of time. and cleaning is a breeze with the included brush and removable heads. you can also remove the head and run it under water for a deep clean. all around this is and excellent shaver.James

Pros – Excellent razor. Closest shave I have ever had. Fast and easy shave due to excellent blades. Cons – Requires a bit of maintenance. You need to run the “cleaning program” every day (personally I do it every other day). Some water and a cleaning solution shoots up into the case and cleans the razor once activated (1 pack of solution is provided for one month – available on Amazon sold as a pack for a reasonable price). This seemed like a bit of a pain at first, especially changing the solution every month, but the razor looks brand new and is working like it was just out of box many months later, so I think it’s worth it. Note – the first ten minutes of the cleaning process are VERY NOISY. The last 60 or so of the drying process aren’t too bad. Don’t expect to clean this razor before you head off to work if your partner is within 25 yards. It’s like waking up to someone vacuuming your pillow.Kayak4

The Panasonic Arc 5 Wet/Dry Electric Shaver with Self-cleaning recharger is outstanding. I've used safety razors for years and decided to try and electric. The Panasonic was the best choice!! If you've been using blades it takes around a month for your face to adapt to an electric but after that time using the electric is great!! Especially with the Self-cleaning recharger. It keeps your razor clean and charged so you always get a great shave. Be sure you read all the instructions so you can get the most from your razor.Steve

I have been using this shaver for 2 years now primarily for bald head shaving. I have also found it very useful for neck shaving since I have a heard. The pop up trimmer is very sharp and precise. I use the pop up trimmer just above my top lip to straighten out my beard. This pop up trimmer is my go-to for precise trimmer when I need it as it is sharper than my other beard trimmers. This trimmer is very powerful, long battery life and my favourite part is the cleaning station. All you have to do after a shave is use a brush to remove the hair from the cutting blades, then drop it in the cleaning station and walk away… Excellent. I had a problem with the cleaning station and I was near the 2 year exchange warranty. I highly recommend contacting panasonic directly for this. I contacted best buy and they maintained it's only a 1 year warranty. It is NOT, it's definitely a 2 year warranty. They just shipped me a brand new replacement unit. Awesome!!Anonymous

I have used non electric back shavers before and they were worthless. After reviewing this Mangroomer pro cordless on many forums I purchased this at a great Walmart low price. It's well designed, good grip with rubberized handle. It's rechargeable cordless design is great and it works great. With the multiple angles of the extension handle I was easily able to get every nook and cranny of my back hair, shoulders, with ease. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs to keep your whole body trimmed.Tonyzany23

I am not new to using a small clipper. I so I think I know what I am talking about. I was shocked how cheep it felt in my hand. Seems like it has no real strength to it. I truly wonder how long it will last. Be sure to never drop it, or it will be gone. It did trim the hair off my back, but then my back hair is very fine. And I did manage to scrap myself up a bit too. Another thing I was shocked about, when it's is on charge, it wont run. So when the batteries die you cant just plug it in and keep using it. And you cant take it apart to put in new ones. But that do tell you how to take out the circuit board with the batteries on it to toss it out. For what I paid for it I thought it would be much better. So I will use it till it goes and then get the cheaper one. All it really is, is the edge trimmer on an electric shaver on a stick. If you have one, you know how they last. Be sure to keep it oiled and clean it every time you use it…. One last thing, it does work me, but I just wonder for how long…..2011jakecarl

I bought one of these a while ago and it was excellent. Rechargeable and solidly built. And it made short work of my hairy back making me no longer looking like I had escaped from the zoo. Alas it got blunt over the years and on seeing the price of the replacement blades it made good sense to order a brand new replacement. I thought I was buying the same again but this new Mangroomer is a pale imitation. Made by the same company and costing the same it's a far inferior product. It's much lighter and has no real weight to it making it harder to use. The weaker joints mean that it won't stay in position plus it is now battery operated not rechargeable. Luckily I used the cutting blade of the new one to revamp my old one so I'm still not being hassled by zoo keepers.afrocub

Another great rotary in Philips' lineup. This series does solve the issue of many complaints regarding the detachable trimmer and heads of other Philips shavers – it has the traditional flip-top head and pop-up trimmer. This adds to the bulk of the shaver, body and head, but precludes having to keep track of a separate trimmer and remove the head for cleaning, and it works reasonably well, although for me the trimmer isn't quite as effective as the SmartClick attachments for the Series 9000 shavers. The ComfortGlide Rings really are effective, and provide a frictionless shave, although in this model they are slightly larger than the Anti-Friction rings of the S7940 for example, and require some maneuvering to get around tight areas. The Quick Clean pods use the same cleaning solution as the SmartClean cartridges for the SmartClean stations, which is excellent for cleaning and lubricating the shaver. The Quick Clean Pod is unpowered however, and uses the shaver's power, reducing it by about 1 percent per cleaning, although on a positive note doesn't require cords or cables and is more compact – actually usable for travel. The GroomTribe app is the Achilles Heel of all these Bluetooth shavers, and in particular this model (S7782), because there's no information regarding this particular shaver – the app seems exclusively to recognize only the S7940 shaver. On the plus side, the S7782 will connect, and it does record the shaving time and the percentage of rotation (which improves shaving efficiency), although the motion sensor algorithm in the shaver appears not to recognize the correct rotational movement about half the time. The good news is you don't actually need the app, and this shaver has an LED screen that provides all the essential information about the shaver, including battery life, cleaning information and the previously mentioned inaccurate rotation statistics. The shaving heads (SH71/52) only have a single cutting ring, but actually are comfortable and provide a very close shave. Overall, an excellent rotary from Philips, that provides a close, comfortable shave, warts and all, with the potential to improve with software updates to the app. Recommended.S7782

This new Norelco shaver is a big change from my current one. Some things I really like about it and a couple not so much. Starting with the not so much is the fact that there's no charger for this shaver, it just comes with a cable with a USB end. My current Norelco has a nice charger base it sits upright in and plugs into the wall. The shave head on this is also considerably larger than my current one and takes some getting used to for trimming around tight spots on the face. Now for the good, this shaver requires very little effort for shaving stubble on my face and gets it all with only a couple passes. The way the shave head can contour around the face is cool and helps to get shaving done quicker. The shaver has a battery level indicator on the front which comes in handy, my current one only has a light that flashes when its time to charge it. Overall this is a nice replacement shaver other than not coming with a charger right out of the box.dmx10101

Probably the best rotary shaver ever made. This model is akin to the old-style Norelco shavers of the 90s into the 2000s. Only with a modern look and feel. For a while, since 2015 or so I think, most Philips Norelco models had heads with two rows of blades and were somewhat open on the outside. I feel this was a mistake as skin could get caught in the open spaces. This model however has the blades completely enclosed by the comb with one row of blades. Like the old ones used to be. And believe me, one row of blades is fine. I get a great shave from this model. Philips Norelco reached the apex of electric shaving technology years ago with lift-and-cut blades, and they just keep improving. But the previous style of blades was not best for me. Speaking of lift-and-cut, that was not a meaningless marketing slogan. If the hairs were long enough you could actually feel them being plucked, ouch. Fortunately gone are the days of nickel-cadmium batteries taking 8 hours to charge and dry shaving only. This is the new era of electric shaving. The blades are self sharpening and most if not all models are now wet / dry. This model feels sturdy and solid with good weight. Fits well in the hand. And the motor is strong but not too loud. And the blades cut through stubble like it's not even there. I've used many norelco models through the years. But there's something about this one. It cuts cleaner, easier and faster. And it just feels better on my face, and in my hand. I shave in the shower with Nivea Men Sensitive gel, because I'm a sensitive guy. And if I'm in a hurry I shave dry. It's nice to have the option of either. This is the best Norelco so far, and it's not even the really expensive model.Bond...James, Bond

Featured here is the Panasonic ES3831, a cousin of the ES3834 which I had and which it duplicates in every way except for the trimmer which the ES3834 had but which this ES3831 doesn't, but if you have no mustache to trim like I do, this ES3831 will be a must have for you. It follows a line of very reliable high quality Japanese precision Panasonic ES travel shavers. I could not believe at how great a shave it gave! And it runs for a long time on easy to find AA batteries. No fumbling around with a charger. Very handy when you're traveling international because different countries have different outlet configurations. With this handy precision quality shaver, you won't have to worry about that. Don't worry about getting it wet. It's water resistant and can be used for a wet shave. I gave mine to my wife, and after flirting with another brand that just didn't work despite its name and higher price, I'm going back to the exact same Panasonic model now to get back into the game.PapaBap

I wish in the "Tell us more" section, it had an option under "Do you recommend it?" to be "Maybe"; Ditto for is it a good value. It is well known that electric foil and "pad" shavers work well but maybe not as well as blade. Remember that old adage by some shaver manufacturers that their shavers "shave as close as a blade or your money back."? That tells you that blades shave closest. In the case of this Panasonic shaver, that is still true. The foil on this shaver gets dull rather quickly after using it for a few weeks, so I now have to follow it up with a going over with a razor. The reason that I use this shaver is that I keep cutting myself with the razor if I use the razor first; even with shaving cream. I wish there was a way to closely shave but not cut myself. On the good side, this shaver is waterproof and the batteries last a long time, weeks, before replacing.bricolaje

Been shaving for 45 years, and mostly with Panasonic shavers. They are by far the best shavers made. I have 4 Panasonics in my collection right now… the ES8249, ES-LF51 ES-LA93 and the new ES-LV97. Whats nice about Panasonic is that the charger/cleaning station can be used interchangeable with almost any of it models in a pinch. I've used Braun, Reminington and most the top brands and Panasonic is the best, IMHO. The Braun had an annoying vibration to it and not as smooth as the Panasonics. My current shaver is a ES LA93 which is very good but only has 3 blades The ES-VS97 in new and improved, and I mean that literally. The 5 blade head are smooth and soft, and cut with less swipes than the ones with 3 blades. The pop up trimmer is a big improvement over older models, as it locks in place moving in either direction. Lastly, cosmetically it is much nicer looking with a matte black finish.cgnaked

I’m switching to this electric Panasonic Arc5 razor after having used another brand’s wet/dry electric razor for the past 13 years. The Arc5 razor is lightweight, and the matte black plastic doesn’t look or feel very premium, however, a silver/chrome model is also available and the warranty is 2 years. This razor performs very nicely and gives me a close shave both when using dry and wet with shaving cream. I very rarely have to make more than one pass over the same patch of skin, though I find that when shaving dry it’s easier to pull the skin taught to raise the hairs since I don’t have to work over the shaving cream. The first time I used the razor I did experience a bit of razor burn and irritation, especially around the Adam’s apple; the manual suggests that it could take up to 30 days of regular use for your skin to acclimate to the new shaver. That, plus I haven’t clean shaven properly in weeks as growing out your beard has become quite trendy during the COVID-19 pandemic. That said, I did use the trimmers first to trim my facial hair down to stubble before shaving and was impressed with the efficiency and smoothness of the pop up trimmers; they didn’t catch, pull, or snag once, which my old electric razor used to do constantly. If you like the stubble or 5 o’clock shadow look, you could probably even stop there. The LCD is bright and easy to read, but it really only gives you information about the remaining battery life and whether or not it is set to the “cleaning” mode. The charging cable connector is uniquely shaped, so if you lose it or it breaks, you’ll need to get a model/series specific replacement cable. It lasts about 2 weeks on a full charge (1 hour) if your daily shave averages about 3 minutes. While the unit I have did not come with a charging base, there are contacts on back of the handle for automatic charging when the razor is placed into a charging base. What I did find interesting about this razor is its beard density sensor which changes the motor speed based on the density/coarseness of the section of beard it is trimming. You can hear the motor sound change as it encounters thinner or thicker patches of hair, which works well on my uneven and patchy beard growth. The razor also has a cleaning cycle and comes with blade oil to maintain the blade sharpness and a brush to clean out any shavings. The top pops off easily for cleaning, and the foils and blades are simple to remove and replace when needed. The unit did come with a leatherette carry case and a plastic protective cap for travel. My beard may be a bit different than the avg. guy’s beard. I’m not a hairy guy, & I don’t have a thick, coarse, stubbly beard. If I don’t shave during the work week, I won't end up with a stylish 5 o’clock shadow until Friday afternoon–a look that a lot of other guys can achieve in just 1 day. But even with my soft, thin facial hair, this electric razor doesn’t offer the close shave I’d hoped for. In fact, the number of passes I’m forced to make over my face & neck to obtain a clean, whiskerless mug is both annoying & time-consuming. So, despite my slow-growing beard, if I don’t shave at least 2-to-3 times/week w/this electric razor, then I’m forced to revert to a disposable razor for a clean shave. In addition, I found that the shaver’s large head makes it a bit unwieldy & difficult to obtain a close shave in the area just beneath my nose. Whether shaving wet or dry & regardless of technique (going against the grain, stretching the skin, toggling the shaver head between the “free” & “lock” positions, utilizing the pop-up trimmer, etc.), I also found it difficult to get a clean shave under my jaw line, below my sideburns. I experienced similar difficulty in shaving the tiny hairs in the lower neck/throat area on either side of my Adam’s apple. Although some may prefer to utilize the razor’s wet shave capability, I don’t like to shave in the shower. Although I did try the wet shave option, it didn’t cut any better than the dry shave. So, after 2 tries at wet shaving, I went back to traditional dry shaving. As for the suggested shaving cream option, I don’t use shaving cream with an electric razor. For me, the whole pt. of an electric razor is convenience & time savings vs. dealing w/the hassles of a manual razor (running hot water, applying/removing shaving cream/gel, & cauterizing bloody nicks, etc.). Simply put: an electric shaver should provide a QUICK, safe, close shave without all the mess & fuss. Although a 2-yr. mfr.’s limited warranty sounds impressive vs. the industry std., a quick check revealed that the common recommended replacement parts (new blades & foils) aren’t inexpensive. So, I doubt I’ll be able to justify the expense of regular maintenance w/this razor (apart from routine cleaning). Instead, I’ll probably elect to put those funds towards the cost of a new shaver. Furthermore, the lithium ion battery life is just 3 yrs., & it isn’t intended to be replaced by the consumer. In some ways, this shaver could almost be considered an expensive disposable razor. On a minor note, the black travel case/pouch feels like cheap vinyl without any real padding or cushioning to fully protect the hardware & sensitive electronics. Overall, I'm a bit underwhelmed & disappointed, as I expected greater performance—namely, a closer, quicker shave—from a premium electric shaver at this price point.CriticalEye

Product: Precision Satin Compact precision trimmer Face/Body Hairs: I received a sample of this product in exchanged for my unbiased review. I suffer from embarrassing facial and body hair that mostly affect my upper lip, chin, arm, and navel areas. The Phillips trimmer is a well designed product that exceeded my expectations. Assembly: The product required very little assembly. The instruction manual provided clear and vivid instructions on how to assemble and use the product. It was pretty easy to switch between the two trimming heads once I figured out how to detach the head from the trimmer. My only challenge involved removing the cover to the battery compartment. I found it to be very difficult to twist open. Trimming: The product provided a very precise trim. I was able to remove my unwanted facial and body hairs with relative ease, and as a result, I was left with silky smooth skin. I did not have to go over the areas I trimmed more than once, as I had to do with similar products. I also did not experience any cuts or burns while using the product. Problems: The trimmer is not as compact as it claims to be. It is rather long, bulky, and bright, which makes it more noticeable than discreet. When the product is turned on, it is pretty loud. This not only made it obvious that I was using the product, but it also bothered my ears. The protective cap is also big and does not fit on the trimmer securely.ShondaB

The Philips Precision Trimmer comes in a nice small box- fitting for a small device, since I was genuinely worried that it may come in a some sort of large and bulky and completely unnecessary packaging. The device itself resembles a nice pen, therefore, not big, and very comfortable to hold in one's hand. It is powered by a single AAA battery and comes with a cleaning brush and a precision attachment. The instructions on the box are given in a super simple picture format, therefore I had no questions on how to use the product. Once turned on, the trimmer emits a gentle (at least to me) buzzing noise- as you would expect- without giving me any fear that it will cause me any discomfort. I am a female with a tendency to have somewhat prominent hairs above the top lip, therefore, I was really excited to try out the trimmer. It glided through my face with ease and actually removed more 'fuzz' than I knew I had. Also, I have a medium sized mole/bump on my face too and I did not feel like that got in the way at all. The only minuscule issue I had was the eyebrow trimming/shaping. I have added the attachment but don't believe I have achieved much of the precision I was hoping for, since I was just too worried to go anywhere too close and make any mistakes. Therefore, I can only say that the device works really well for actually trimming all the hair, but cannot say much for using it for more precise applications.leilaeda

I received this product in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Overall, I liked the product. I was hesitant at first to try something to trim facial hair since I typically get waxes; however, I was pleasantly surprised. The product was easy to use although the directions consist of pictures and arrows pointing in the direction to move the trimmer rather than describing it with words. My personal preference is a combination of both. I first used it to try trimming light hair on my upper lip (it is fairly blonde hair that I previously waxed). The trimmer was wonderful! When waxing I often get small zits or irritated skin, but with this trimmer, I did not have any of those side effects. I also tried it on my eyebrows (and admittedly I was much more hesitant about it!). I did not notice a difference when using the extension fully on my eyebrows but that might be because my eyebrows were too `short` for the extension to pick up any. I used it on small hairs around my eyebrow shape (without the extension attached) and it worked really well. Last, the instructions indicated that it can be used at the bikini line and it worked great there, too! A problem I ran into was that half of the head of the trimmer can come off to clean inside of it as needed. After checking this out, I popped this half of the head back on and the product stopped working altogether. I finally got it to work again by taking the half of the head off again, turning the power button to `on`, and attaching the head while it was running. These instructions are not in the instruction manual`s `troubleshooting` guide, so I hope this helps someone out. Again, great product and I want to find a way to get my husband to use it on his own eyebrows from time to time! 🙂JenniK

When I received the product I briefly used it to shave my face. The product seemed to do a very good job of coverage as well as precisely removing the fine hair. It was a lot better than my current product. The price of the product is well worth it, considering it only takes one hour to charge. I looked at other products of this caliber and most of them took a lot longer to charge. The fact that you use a USB plug to charge the product also means it uses less electricity. First off, let me say I have a very thick beard and a lot of body hair. I have tested this item on everything above my collar bone. My conclusion is that it will be a great supplement to my grooming supplies but not necessarily a replacement for anything except the flip up trimmer on the back of my electric shaver. The XT3 fits in corners of my beard where others dont, shaves closer than any trimer I own (but not as close as a blade) nad holds a charge well. I will keep the XT3 around to trim the shoulder hair that creeps up the back of my neck, to line the top of my beard on my cheeckbones, trim the fuzzies off the outside of my ears and the thicker hair coming from the inside of my ear. 100% would recommend for a guy with a hairy face, just dont expect it to do everything (nothing can).Chalupaboy

The simplest way to measure the quality of a razor is the closeness of the shave. I recently thought i would give the Braun XT3 beard trimmer,shaver, Electric Razor a try. I have tried others beard trimmers in the past and i must say this is a Absolute winner in my book. It trims really close and precise almost like a actual razor. I have used Braun electric shavers daily for the last 25 years and Remingtons before that. My Braun Series 7 sideburn trimmer broke this past week when I replaced the head so I was able to compare the two head to head. Braun 7 with a new foil head versus Series 9 Pro. The 9 Pro was a major improvement to the already fine Series 7 with a new head. I was amazed at the major difference of closeness of the shave and how efficient it was in requiring fewer passes to get a close shave. The shave with the Series 9 Pro was every bit as close as shaving with my Merzur safety razor. The new head design design on the Series 9 is clearly better plus there is a new feature that works really well. The head can be locked in a fixed position or used in in a pivoting position. The instructions recommend the fixed head position for your neck and cheeks. While the pivoting head works well under your nose and on your chin. The pop up sideburn trimmer has been relocated to the rear of the shaver which is a much better location than on the front of the shaver. The new charging case is wonderful for traveling on extended trips. I am amazed at the dramatic improvement of the Braun Series 9 Pro over my previous Braun Series 7. The shaver is a beautiful example of high quality German Design, German Engineering, and German manufacturing. Yes it is made in Germany which I much prefer over Chinese mediocre manufacturing. I bought the Series 9 Pro 9465 though I was skeptical. I have always used a Phillips Norelco triple headed rotary shaver because I believed that it was the only thing short of a blade that could give me a clean shave with all the crazy directions my beard grows. The quality of the blades on my Norelco shavers have degraded badly over the years and I find myself grinding the razor against my face for 10 minutes trying to get a reasonable shave and having razor burn afterward. I also don't shave every day anymore and every day past day 1 I go, the worse the shaving experience got. This shaver is amazing! If I shave every day it takes me about 90 second to get a MUCH closer shave than my old shaver, and I even 3 days to test it out and after 3 days the save was just as close and only required a little more effort. I never believed a foil shave could work for me but I'm convinced now. The skin on my face is much happier, and I am too. Pros: Really close shave with minimal effort Very quick to get to that close shave Nice design and fits well in my hand Impressive cleaning/charging station (yet to really test it out) Cons: Its not loud but the sound is high pitched compared to my old shaver and a little uncomfortable VERY pricey, I hope its wicked durable like my Norelcos which each lasted over a decade with just blade replacements Not sure I would spend the extra $100 on the base station if I had the chance to buy it againScoR

Quick assessment: Hefty feel that provides a very close shave, but does take longer to cut every hair with more noise and vibration than other electric shavers. Pros: Extremely high quality and hefty feel. The razor feels “premium” and I doubt it will break or have any quality issues for a long time. I love the attention that was put into the quality. This razor also shaves closer than any other electric razor I’ve tried before. If you are focused on the end result of super smooth skin post shaving, this is a great razor. The shaving head pivots to meet the contour of your face, and glides easily. I did not experience any roughness, scratchiness or other concerns – the razor heads glide smooth without irritation. Cons: Noise and vibration. As this design is a “side-to-side” trimmer, there is a lot more noise and vibration in the trimmer action than I am used to. It is not a defect, just something to be aware. It wasn’t a problem for me most weekends, but during the weekdays it did wake up my wife as I was getting ready for work. Also, while the razor is Li-Ion and can be used cordlessly most of the time, I found it unfortunate that razor does not work WHILE PLUGGED IN as well. I would be worried about forgetting to charge it and then being stuck unable to shave in the morning while waiting for enough charge to get going. Not a huge issue either, but also something to be aware of. Final con I noticed was just the time it takes to properly shave. While the shave is super close, it isn’t super quick and does require a few passes to get everything just right.we98

Before anything else when purchasing this brand new, apply some clipper oil to the cutting edge prior to the first use! The factory coating was insufficient even for the first operation and led to a poor experience requiring many runs over the same areas for a clean shave. I use the tried and true Wahl clipper oil and found that *very lightly* oiling it along the whole of the cutting edge helped (Applied after over 2 hours of use) as per mentioned briefly in the manual. By doing so, it brought the level of how well it shaves to a degree vastly above that of where it was originally out of the box! What were originally many passes were in some areas brought down to a single pass shave. This also dramatically reduces how hot the foil became in operation even when firmly pressed against the skin to encourage contouring. Lightly dab oil along the cutting edge, put the foil back on, and operate it for upwards of 30 seconds while slowly rotating it back and forth and side to side. Oil will seep through the foil so be prepared to wipe it down. This will soak the interior with oil so wiping down the interior of the foil head is pointless. — To easily remove the foil top: Press in the release toggle button and rock it up from that side until it rotates over the cutting edge. (I think that replacing it by catching it on the side that the power toggle is on and rocking it back down in reverse may potentially elongate the life of this plastic point) — While I'm new to the world of single foil shavers, going against the grain in small moves such as if scrubbing a difficult pan helps a lot with how cleanly the shave can become. If the skin is loose or has a layer of fat underneath it, pulling it taunt dramatically helps improve how well it can operate.Kiri

I keep this gem in my car, and whenever I need a little cleaning up, like if Im on my way to an important meeting, or a date, or if I just need that little touch up. The only thing I would change, if anything, would be to have a rechargeable model, where I wouldnt need to have spare batteries on hand, or, perhaps, an available car charger that could give me a quick charge n go. I really like this shaver and close it cuts. I use the Norelco Oneblade if its the 3rd day or more and use this shaver after the Oneblade. I would have given this shaver 5 stars but getting blade replacements is ridiculous. You cant just buy the blade. It has to be a blade/foil combo that is way overpriced and now hard to find. I own two other Norelco shavers, a two year old S7940 and a twelve year old 9160 XL. Both of these were the top-of-the-line model when purchased and have given me flawless service. See my photo comparisons of these three shavers. Norelco currently offers two core designs in its shavers. The more expensive 5000/7000/9000 series are slimmer and have a “mushroom” head which sit above the body of the shaver and thus have more flexibility to conform to your face. The other design is seen in the more basic and economical 1000/2000/3000 series which have a flatter head design. Like all Norelco shavers the S3134 is elegantly styled and very ergonomic. It is a nice combination of steel blue and black. It is lightweight, but feels substantial in your hand. There is rubberized grip material where your index finger and thumb would grasp the shaver and your remaining three fingers cradle the sides of the shaver’s body. It is a bit longer than my 9160 Norelco and a bit lighter. Compared to the 7940 it is wider and slightly heavier. The battery life on this shaver is actually much greater than the 50 minutes claimed by Norelco. I tested it by running it continuously from a fully-charged state and it lasted 121 minutes! Now it should be noted that this was not actual shaving time, so I estimate that actual shaving time would be about 100+ minutes. Recharge time from a fully-discharged state was 68 minutes. Other notes about the charging system: The orange low-charge warning light activated with 5.5 minutes of running time remaining. A five minute quick charge gave 9.5 minutes of shaving time. This is my second Norelco electric shaver that I have owned in the last 3 years and there is a considerable improvement from my old one. Let's start with the charging time. All you need is 1 hour of charging time for 60 minutes of shaving time. I easily get 3 good shaves out of 1 charge! The shaver also comes with a nice little charge indicator to let you know how much juice the shaver has left. The next thing you will notice is how easy it is to grip this Norelco. The stem is wrapped with a nice anti-slip rubber that makes handling much easier. Once you are ready to start shaving, I really like how I have the option of either having a dry or wet shave. If I am needing a quick clean up, then I go dry, but if I want a closer shave, I always use shaving foam. I have really sensitive skin, so I really appreciate the pivot and flex heads on this Philips Norelco. Not only do they provide a clean shave, but it doesn't irritate my face. I really like how well it shaves my face and neck, but the only reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because doesn't do that good of a job right underneath my jaw line. Another plus of this Norelco, is how easy it is to clean it. All you have to do is flip open the shaver head and rinse with water. On the back side of the shaver you will find the pop up trimmer, which is usefull, but it takes a while to get used to using on your sideburns, as I found it a little awkward to handle on my face. I figured I would try this out because I want something convenient and economical. In-grown hairs drive me crazy and this shaver is supposed to help. They say it takes about three weeks to see the effects of using the new shaver. So far, I feel like it is improving a lot of my facial hair, but some stragglers are being stubborn and don’t want to change (at least yet). Each day, the shaver does an amazing job on the majority of my hair. However, it does not seem to be able to lift up hairs laying completely flat against my skin. No matter how many times I go over them and no matter what angle, those hairs get missed. I have to go back and touch up with a regular razor, which gets them without a problem. The hope is after a few more weeks of “training” the stubborn hairs, the beard as a whole will grow in the appropriate direction for the shaver. For longer hair like sideburn touch ups, there is a pop-up trimmer ready to keep them looking good in between haircuts. Having a straight trimmer for them is so much easier than using a razor or scissors. The shaver itself is simple to use. The battery lasts one hour and takes one hour to charge. I have not needed to charge it yet because shaving with it is fast. Cleanup is simple! One push of a button flips the blades up for easy rinsing and drying. The fact that this is suitable for wet or dry is huge for me! I prefer a wet shave and, even if someone likes a dry shave, it just makes life easier knowing this thing can get wet. Overall, I am happy with this shaver. It is the first electric shaver I have had in about twenty years, and they have come a long way. Waterproofing and much better batteries make this so much more convenient than what I used to have.Tony

When I was introduced to shaving, I tried my Dad's Sunbeam, Remington foil and a DE analog. I ended up doing the DE and got tired of nicks and cuts and skin irritation. in 1972, I started an almost 50 year relationship with Norelco "rotary" products. I went as high as $200+ in that line and it seems they have plateaued as far as technology advances are concerned. I was fed up with the poor quality of replacement blades available today, so I began a search for a replacement shaver. After reading numerous reviews, mostly pro, I decided to give the Arc5 a shot. All I can say is if you find yourself in my spot, do not hesitate. Get this shaver with the cleaning/charging unit, STAT! PROS: The closest shave I've gotten, next to a razor, EVER. Did NOT irritate my skin (I have sensitive skin) Larger head > shorter shave time Flex head follows your facial contours (jaw line, neck, etc.) Beard "sensor" adjusts to your beard's current length. Trimmer does a good job. Shaver has a "built-in" cleaning function, which you can use if you're travelling, or in between "tank" cleanings. Head size and shaving method delivers a faster shave. The cleaning/charging base has a "Dry/charge" function. CONS: Price of replacement heads and cleaning solution concentrate. I got this in anticipation of my upcoming birthday (thank you, honey!) and read the manual. I HAD to check the unit out, so I put some pre-shave lotion on and charged the shaver. Some people complain about the size of the shaver. It really is comparable to the Norelco I was using, but the shape of the head is what speeds your shave along. (It covers more territory). Since there is usually a break-in time for new shaving methods, I expect my shaves to improve over the next week. I used primarily an up and down motion on my face, then I changed direction and orientation on my chin and neck. One complaint I avoided is on my upper lip I have a moustache, so I didn't have a problem with trying to get a close shave there. After finishing and evaluating the shave quality, I took the head off, and rinsed it and the shaver under the tap. Then, I wiped excess water off both and reassembled the unit and dropped it into the cleaning/charging base and put it on dry. I haven't used the cleaning function of the tank yet, but will update my review after I've done so. For things like shaving my ears, I have a companion Panasonic trimmer that I use for things no shaver can do. Summary: Get one! You have 30 days to decide whether you want to keep it.RubberToe

I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this razor. after a month using every other day I havent experienced any of the negatives I read about. I use it on my head and neck below my beard. I found if I use it every other day or 3rd day on my head it shaves easy and as smooth as a razor. Like all electric razors it does not do well with long hair. the only draw back i have is the razor head is large. Which helps speed up the process doing my whole head but little difficult around the top of my ear to sideburn section. I still think its best razor I have ever used in 20 years though. The charging/cleaning station is so nice. Yea it can be a little loud on the cleaning portion but its the razor turning on and off so what's the difference when you use it? Travel case and option to still sharge it with just the cord is well thought out. Mean I dont have to lug the station with me when I go away for a week. But after 20 use Im still at 80 to 85 percent So i likely wouldnt need to charge it anyway.Abult

I was very hesitant to try an electric razor, considering my beard is full and thick and grows quickly. I had been using a DE razor and wet shaving for the last few years. I tired of the time and blood. I researched the closest cutting electric razor sand this one seemed to be among the best. Turns out that I like it even more than I had hoped. It shaves close and quickly. It allows me to shave daily or go 3 days and handles both situations with comfort. Been using for about a month and I will never go back to blades and cream and the hassle. If I'm careful and focused this razor is basically as close a blade. A solid shave takes under 4 minutes and I experience no issues at all even with somewhat sensitive skin. If you're considering an electric razor, I'd start right here. I've had this razor for a few years now. Prior to that, I had the Braun PocketGo (same razor, different color/name). I also have a more expensive top-of-the-line Braun electric razor, too. But … if I had to chose only one electric razor, it would be this "cheap" little mobile shaver. It simply is a great product, gives a great shave (for an electric razor), and won't break the bank. I like the fact that it uses BATTERIES (two AA-size batteries) rather than a rechargeable battery. It makes it more mobile. I keep one of these in my vehicle, and the other in my briefcase. I actually prefer using a DE safety razor, but that takes more time to use (prep and shave). So, if I'm in a hurry or just want easy, then my Braun MobileShaver is the winner. A good shaver to keep in the car. I've had 3 or 4 other travel razors, and this is by far the best. It's large enough to handle easily, most are too small. The "Tac" shaver that Wal Mart sells is an example of too small. I recently bought one of those, and threw it away after a few weeks. I've had the Braun shaver for 3 years, and it is still holding up well. Eventually, the foil screen tears and the razor is finished.1988bayliner

I decided to try this shaver after reading the reviews and was really impressed by its performance. Although battery powered and small enough to put in your pocket this shaver gets the job done. Gets me a close shave that is very smooth…I do have to pass back and forth a few times but it really does a clean job. It also is waterproof and can be used in the shower and tub if you're the type who likes to shave while bathing. Comes with a small detachable brush for hair removal. I love the protective switch to prevent from accidental turn ons and running down your batteries if you are traveling with it.
