20 Best Electric Tiller For Breaking New Ground (Jan 2023 Update)

We love this tiller for our garden! Was lucky enough to catch it on a one day sale! It's perfect for our small garden and the flower beds. It turns the dirt and clay over so easily, ready for planting. It turns it into fine particles of dirt so easily. It's electric and now glad we don't have to put gas/oil in it; have a plug socket close by! So happy we caught this sale and went for the 14 inch size!!Snick12

Having never owned a tiller before, I did a bit of research before buying. I knew I wanted an electric tiller since a family member owns a gas model and doesn't like it because it's difficult to start. That's also the main reason I already own an electric mower. Could never get the gas ones started without serious injury to my shoulder. First of all my order arrived almost a week earlier than promised. Assembly was easy, just attached the handle and basically used it right out of the box. Before buying, I watched a video showing a woman using it in a real garden setting and it seemed just perfect for me. AND, the video gave me important hints about the proper way to use a tiller. It would be highly recommended for a first time user to do the same. Not only does the Sun Joe Tiller work as it should, it's MORE powerful than I thought possible. My garden space, about an 8'X10' area, was easily tilled in a very short time, less than an hour, and I enjoyed how quick and easy it really was to use. You hardly even get dirty, as it doesn't spray dirt all over you as you are working. There's enough power to cut through roots 1/2" diameter and smaller without much pulling. It clanked on a few rocks we encountered and got stuck on one larger root, but it was easy to extract and stop to cut the root out of the way with loppers. If you let go of the switch, located on the right handle, it stops instantly. Once you get used to the amount of pressure needed to keep it running, it's not a problem at all. It made me feel safe, knowing it would stop running if I let go. If you already use electric lawn equipment, you know how to navigate with an extension cord attached. If not, it's important to use either the belt clip to support the cord, or do like I do and drape it over your shoulders to keep it under control. Since you are pulling back on the tiller to use it, unlike pushing a mower, you have to be constantly aware of where the cord is, so as to not cut though it. Not so much a negative aspect, as it is an awareness needed when using electric equipment. Recently, I recommended the Sun Joe to a gardener who does garden tilling for his customers. He told me he wasn't doing much tilling work because it was such a hassle to use the heavy gas tiller. He tried mine and was impressed, so he planned to look into using it for small jobs. My top rating is for all aspects of this tool. Lightweight, but solid construction. Powerful, but quiet operation. Ease of use and storage, takes hardly any space to store and can be hung on a wall hook. There are no negatives to report at this time.thebump1966

I used this in a bed that had been previously tilled last year. It tackled the job like a pro. It tills best when you drag it backwards as opposed to walking forward. You can easily till up 6"-8" of top soil. After another pass or two it could go even deeper. It will be handy keeping the garden and flower beds cleaned up this summer.Frank

I am not a gardener but planned on softening up some ground to do some water mediation. It worked great and I'm Impressed. Then wanted to till up some grass around a scrub that I panted to put Cosmos in. Now it took 2 hours to dig the 1-gallon hole and get the rocks out. When I tried the Mantis to clear 3 feet around it, I was super impressed with its power and ability to chuck out fist-size rocks. Did a great job AGAIN. Good product. Great bang for the buck. After twenty years of the annual exercise in futility of growing nice grass and vegetables, the last straw came when the gas utility ripped up the ribbon sidewalk to install a new line and left rocky-sandy soil. The soil in the neighborhood had been become so compacted the dogs couldn't get it to pass a percolation test. A teen with a gas-powered unit could make a fortune this year. We have a big spread here, 1/10 of an acre. Twice the size of any other ranch around here but not too big to hunt for a machine. Not having much room for storage, I looked for a light, compact but strong machine. This tiller arrived faster than estimated. The assembly was flawless with a perfect fit and finish. All the holes drilled and punched in the right places. The machine is quiet, looks, and feels well made. I didn't find any shortcuts in manufacturing that we usually find in lower-priced machinery. It makes quick work of cutting through the soil and roots below the surface. We have the same great soil the Dutch found here five hundred years ago. I got so excited I went over to a neighbor and started a patch of grass in front of his house. My problem is everyone wants to borrow the machine, but I will be using it almost every day this season. I told them where to get one of many. Now that I am doing such a good job my wife is urging me, really urging me to buy a pressure washer and a DIY Split System AC unit. I have to go now. This electric tiller is packed with power and performance. Not a sissy tiller, and I previously owned the gas/oil Mantis tiller for 16 years. I bought this tiller as it was getting painful for me to start the gas/oil tiller. The set-up was easy on the electric, and it has been easy to use, and YES-it has POWER. It digs up the ground and deep holes for planting vegetables. I also really like the wheels. Instead of lifting the tiller out of the holes, I roll it out. My shoulders and back love it. My extension cord is easy to keep out of the way. For the money, skip the more expensive battery Mantis (which has less power and only a 30-minute run time) and buy the electric tiller. This little devil just made my weekend. We got 7 inches of snow yesterday and I tried my Show Thrower for the first time. It worked great! It did go down to the deck surface but I found that by skimming the top 3 inches first, the bottom 4 were a piece of cake. WHAT DID I DO? I went and ordered 2 more to give to my elderly dad and one to my older friend who lives alone. What I really love is how light weight it is and I can take it anywhere which isn't always possible with a big snowblower. One word to the wise, the snow is shot out a good distance from the front. No adjustable side shoots so take that into consideration when using. I had to double duty on a few areas — could have avoided if I planned better from get-go. I bought 2 of these one for me and one for my sister to do my Mom's. We've had 2 storms in three days in NE and it worked pretty good for me. We both had problems with putting the handles together but with a little patience got it together. Its very light to handle which is great for back issues. I had a Snow-Joe but gave it to another sister because it was just too heavy for my back. We had an electric snow shovel growing up and it worked great, so I thought I would give this a try and wasn't disappointed. Like other reviewers, wish it had a directional shoot so you could aim it, and the switch needs a lock because your hand does get tired and slips off if your hand gets wet so your constantly restarting, but even with those little things I still love it and would recommend it. The delivery was incredibly quick as I just ordered and received the product this week. I live in Southern New England where our current winter has been more like summer. I did have trouble putting the 2 pieces of the Guide Bar together but with a little patience and a little physical push, the pieces did eventually come together! After plugging it in, it started wonderfully and I love the purple color! I'm in my 50s and live alone right now so I don't always have somebody nearby to help shovel my long driveway on a hill. I plan on using this to clear the top part of my driveway so i can get my car out of my garage. It is also light weight. I look forward to my 1st winter where I won't need to use a shovel to lift heavy snow! I might give it a 5 if I could actually try it out on some snow!NVGT

13.5 amp is a quality item. that said let's begin. i wanted to expand our garden next year so the plants do not die of strangulation. no one in the area wanted to be paid to till the garden in september. we wanted to see how rocky the area is so i do not waste my time in spring fighting instead of planting. i priced rental tillers with delivery and pick up. also tillers for sale. way too much money. i saw this and read some reviews and decided to take a chance since the price was great this time of year. the machine runs and works great for what i need it for. it handles the rocks just fine with a bar and small cart. i am a little old and out of shape to use a big gas powered tiller but i can hold on to this one just fine. there was a glitch in the way the manual described how to use the starting switch. i called sun joe and after a long drawn out discussion with several of their customer service reps we finally worked out the problem. let me say that they tried very hard to help but would not deviate from the corporate script that they are required to follow. the garden is expanding from 4×32 to 16 x80. it takes a little more time than a big strong tiller but i can still stand up and walk after i do a small section.michael

Used this little monster to break up an 11' diameter circle of very healthy lawn as the Vice-President of Life ordered a flower bed to be emplaced. This little tool (and it's so small, it's bordering "cute") worked very well – but there are limitations. The advantage of this being a very small, very light tiller is a disadvantage when breaking well-grown grass and/or areas with thicker roots. When doing the breaking, it bounces all over the place and really isn't all that effective if you let it move it's natural forward direction. What I found however, is that if you hold it in spot for a bit to do some digging/initial breaking, then PULL BACKWARDS AGAINST THE ROTATION, it will cut up against the sod and it works pretty well. It's still pretty light though and any substantial roots will have it bouncing. Just east it off and come at it again. If the root is getting to the 1/2" size, stop and take it out with an axe or spade instead. With it bouncing around like that, it's hard to keep the trigger all the way depressed – but that's a safety feature I wouldn't remove, just would have preferred a palm switch over a trigger finger one to make it easier. After "backing up" over the whole area (and yes, there's a heck of a bicep workout there) and the core sod broken (and raked clear), I set it a incrementally deeper and let it go forward – holding back in areas that needed more attention. The unit is so light that it'll happily "walk over" areas of strong resistance (and more roots.) When encountering those, I just pulled back over top of them (just like "vacuuming the bed") and the reverse-cutting motion did the job. If I had a full-size, gas-powered rototiller, the job would have been quicker and with less arm work. Having said that, I don't want or need that kind of beast and now that this areas is broken up, I can use it at leisure next spring. The thing is zero-maintenance and so light it's quite easy to store. Just needs a little manual effort to convince it (really hold it back) in the tough areas. I haven't looked at seeing if I can selectively take tines out for ultra-thin tilling – maybe next year. It's only 16" as it is though, so likely not necessary. Having to manage the electrical cord was a bit of a minor pain – but still far less than gas, oil, and seasonal maintenance. Definitely a recommended buy for smaller gardens, flower beds and places where you just can't justify getting the heavy duty equipment.Curt

I till a 16 by 16 plot every year for vegetables. Very Impressed with the power and it did what I would expected from a tiller/cultivator. Used from 2.45 hours continuous with to fade loss of torque. Pros: – Not loud (my 2-stroke gas tiller could be heard 20 homes away and even with ear muffs I would have ringing eardrums from the rest of the day), – quick start (not gas), – shoulder does not ache (previous tiller was shoulder strap) – reasonable price – ease of use – All hand tillers bounce up and down on hard ground but this tiller worked reasonably well. Using a pitchfork to break the ground initially allows the tiller to grab the soil and speeds up tilling process/ Cons: – Power switch design power. Trigger hand gets tired after a while. – Corded, so you need to be aware of the power cord at all times (This I did not mind as much as cordless is more than double the price and have limited run time).Roger

We were digging a drainage bed in clay and gravel in AZ and this tiller made the job so easy. It dug right through the clay and the rock with precision. This little powerhouse is amazing!!! When I told my husband that I had ordered a small electric tiller, he made a disapproving face and shrugged his shoulders. When it arrived, he had it assembled in 10 minutes, very simple, then took it to the run. It digs an 8 to 10 inch furrow, kicking up rocks the size of potatoes and chopped up 1 inch tree roots and kicked them out of the ground. He was totally impressed!! I had borrowed one of these last year (very old model) for my 15 x 10 foot fenced garden area. I was so impressed, I bought my own this year as my back won't tolerate doing it by hand anymore. I have not used my tiller for 10 hours yet. I've bought two Mantis tillers before, over a 14 year span. Both were two cycle. My first lasted about 9-10 years. Worked it hard! The second was nothing but trouble. So this time I went out on a limb and bought a 4 cycle tiller. Seems to be much much better. Time will tell. Almost everything works as described when new, right? At the end of this gardening season, we converted our 23' X 48' vegetable garden into a raised-bed garden consisting of 14 4' X 8' boxes. So I wrestled our old large rear-tine tiller around the garden one more time to loosen the soil so we could set and fill the boxes. We knew we would need a small tiller like the Mantis 7940 to tend the soil inside the boxes, so I bought one directly from Mantis, taking advantage of the free shipping and the current offer of the edger attachment for only $1. The tiller and attachment arrived within a few days, just in time to help with our project. Assembly is easy for anyone with even the most basic mechanical skills. I would suggest, however, that you use the instructions in the operator's/parts manual rather than the quick start sheet–they're more complete and the photo illustrations are more numerous and much clearer. How did I use the Mantis during our box garden setup? We prepared the boxes by adding bagged compost, peat moss, and some composted manure we had on hand. I used the tiller to stir that all into the soil inside the boxes, and it worked very well. Controlling it with finesse will be an acquired skill, but I got better as I went from box one to box 14! I experimented with the tine configuration, thinking by putting them in weeding or cultivating mode I'd throw less soil out of the box, but I found that the regular tiller configuration (points rotating forward and down) worked just as well, if not better. I love the 4-stroke engine for its quiet and easy starting. I've used a lot of chain saws and string trimmers with 2-cycle engines in my time, and I did NOT miss the deafening scream.John H.

This is my 2nd Mantis. The first lasted 10 years. I used this twice in the first few months of getting it and it has never run again. Mantis support is laughable. They will, without asking any qualifying questions, tell you that it is 1) clogged air filter (on a new machine) 2) bad gas (despite it being premixed and working in my Echo weed-wacker). Customer service doesn't understand how to adjust their own carburetor. I was directed to a local shop that is booked out 2 months and then I was warned that if it is a carburetor problem Mantis will not honor the 2 year warranty. I love love love this tiller for my small garden beds. At 65, my big tiller is way too hard now for us to use. My beds are already fine-tuned, and this Mantis zips right through them, amazing power in that 58v battery! No gas and no fuss! Press the button and off you go! I would recommend it to anyone who has difficulty using a big one on smaller beds. Probably would not till the hard bare ground, but once beds are established it's a breeze to use! I love this tiller! I had a much larger gas-powered tiller (different brand). I used it once and hated it. Too heavy, too hard to maneuver, too hard to maintain. It has sat in our potting shed for the last two years and in fact last spring I hand weeded (fortunately my chickens helped me out a bit)!) the garden to avoid using it. So I was thrilled when Mantis offered to send me one of their new 58V tillers. In the interest of full disclosure, I was sent the product in exchange for an honest review, but after trying the tiller out, it's not hard to give it the 5-star review it deserves. From the super quick and easy assembly – really all you have to do is attach the handle sections using nuts and bolts (included) and then charge the battery (which has a great light display showing you how much "juice" is left) – to the operator's manual that is concise and informative, I was impressed with my new Mantis right from the start. At just 26 pounds, it's super easy to just pick up and carry to the garden instead of having to push it through the grass or over rough terrain, although it does roll easily across the grass. The one-handed push button start is amazing. You push the button, pull the handle and you're off! Super quiet, the tiller ran through our hard-packed soil littered with tons of rocks like a champ! The company claims you will get 30 minutes from one battery charge, but I think they're being quite conservative. We did our entire vegetable garden (it's maybe 16×24?) only using a quarter of the charge. The tiller is easy to handle and perfect if the larger, heavier tillers scare you – like they do me! This tiller is fantastic for small to medium size gardens. No vibration and it's quiet. The battery and charger included. Many other brands are sold separately, be warned! Let the machine do the work. Do not push and pull like a maniac. The red starter handle is fragile. See other reviews. I use a large cable tie fit to the handle. Once the handle is secured, remove your hand from the handle. Keep hands off and will not break the handle. Slide cable off to shut off the machine.Barry W.

This thing really is a beast! 1st A little difficult to put together as the screws don't have a size printed but pretty straightforward and its not heavy at all, about 10lbs. 2nd this little thing will tear up some ground! Rocks do get caught up quite a bit and it will stop but for the price and size I'm very impressed! I found it easier to walk backwards with it to dig deeper but watch out for your cord.Nancy

This little tiller surprised me! It's more powerful than I thought it would be. I am disabled and have problems working in my yard, but I needed an area tilled in my yard so I could plant new seed because my dogs destroyed my grass. This little guy did the job easily and quickly! The only problem is that the cord gets in the way, but I was able to maneuver around that. I have very rocky soil, so I was afraid the tines would break, but they just pulled right through that soil, and pushed the rocks out to the side. They didn't even throw the rocks, which was something I was also concerned about. I would recommend this little to anyone who needs help working in their garden. I'm very pleased with the way that it works and the ease of use. My only real criticism would be that the gear box in the center limits it's depth to just over an inch unless the soil is very loose. This also leads to it pulling the soil constantly and piling it behind the tiller rather than just tiling the soil in place. It is however a great little weed mitigating tiller and the purpose for which it was purchased.christopher

I received this cultivator a few months ago and used it on a prepared raised bed. I was pretty happy with it. This past week I used it on another prepared bed and was initially happy with the job it was doing. Well, a rock got caught in the tines and the unit stopped. I removed the rock and let it set to reset the overload. Tried it again and the unit still will not start and run. Absolutely nothing. Sending it back will cost more than I care to spend. This is the second Greenworks Tool that has failed to meet my expectations.Disgruntled User

I was really surprised at how powerful this little machine is. I tilled compost into my garden today and it easily dug down 4 inches into my hard clay soil. It was easy to assemble but don't try to make sense of the instruction manual when putting the tines on. Find a YouTube video, it explains it much better.Stephanie

Purchased a cultivater almost a year ago. Used it to till my garden last year and started again this year. The motor stopped and I saw a little white smoke coming from the top of the unit through the vents. Great not even a year old and it's trash. Called Greenworks explained the problem and they are sending a replacement unit. Didn't expect it to be that easy. Great customer service. I will recommend Greenworks to everyone I know. Any doubts I may have had due to the small size of the tiller evaporated when I plugged in my new best gardening buddy. Instantly my dreams to remove the collection of weeds I erroneously called a lawn became a reality. Due to existing plantings I had to be able to get in between things. Old roots were easily dislodged. This baby sized beast continues to amaze me. Florida is the land of flowers and my Sun Joe tiller is making all my gardening dreams real. I’ve used my Sunjoe Tiller twice. I’m a 57 year old lady who loves to garden. I had top soil delivered and had it leveled. The dirt became hard and packed and was difficult to manually use a hoe and rake on it. I saw the good reviews on this tiller and price was reasonable. I am VERY pleased with this tiller. As I'm getting up in years and getting tired of using a push-plow and a spade to turn over a small garden, I gotta tell ya, this was the best thing since pockets on a shirt. I went online intending to get a small gas powered tiller. But after seeing "electric" tillers, I remembered how much fun gas weedeaters were after they had sat all winter. Seems the new motors are pretty much disposable. After reading other's reviews, I finally decided on this one and was greatly impressed! Starts every time and no pulling a rope, no adding gas, and doesn't weigh much. I've used it several times, just showing it off to friends that had never heard of such a thing. (Kinda the same as I had never) I hope they keep this model around, as I have been bragging about it to others.Goob

I have only used my cultivator once to break up soil that was tilled earlier this spring. Some of the clay had firmed up again which caused the cultivator to struggle in the areas where the soil had hardened. It really has a hard time in rocky soil so I did not try to push my luck because to replace one of the four tine banks costs over $35.00 plus shipping. Break all four and you pay $140.00 plus shipping to get back to work again. That's more than the $95 I paid for the cultivator WITH free shipping. This little trap is not exclusively for the Earthwise tiller. All of the tillers that I investigated charge outrageous amounts for replacement items. This little gimmick seems to be the common practice in business today. Charge the customer less for the product so you can make big money on the parts that everyone is going to need at one point or another. To wrap this up, Yes, I recommend this electric cultivator if you need an ELECTRIC cultivator to weed in between rows because I concluded it was a good value at $95 when compared to a $350 – $450 Mantis. It seemed to have good power for what it was. I believe it is a good quality tiller for doing what it was built to do.r0cky74

I had my first opportunity to use the Earthwise Corded tiller. I liked the fact that it had plenty of power to till up my veggie garden as I was putting it to bed this Fall. It was also light enough to carry and maneuver as I was tilling. I didn't remove some of the viney remnants of the garden and those got wrapped around the tines and the unit started to bog down. The way the tines are spaced, it was easier enough to clear the stuff that got wrapped around the tines and the horizontal shaft. I understand the limitations of this small unit, so I can't expect it to be able to handle conditions like that. But so far, I am very happy with with it and it is meeting my expectations for doing the job I need it to do. I'm also very impressed with the construction and features. The fold up wheels and latches work well and look sturdy and well made. Time will tell how well this unit will hold up, but from my impression so far, I think I will get many years of good service if I continue to use it as a medium duty tiller.JimTheBassman

I garden from a mobility scooter and this Earthwise enables me to get the job done myself and not ask for someone else to come and help me. I just pull a lever and it's ready to go. I have an old WorkHorse Tiller for my garden initially for groundbreaking and end of the year preparation for next year. I also needed a small tiller to get inside my garden (fence in keeping out critters) in mid-season to re-till the ground that has already been harvested to prepare for fall planting. It is light and easy to maneuver for a tiller. It is hard to go really deep because it is so light. My test run was on hard dry ground with grass and weeds but it did a good job of fighting thought it. It is nice to be able to take the tongs off to clear the weeds and grass. I recommend you take the bolts out and put washers on those bolts so that it is easier to get the tongs off when they are compacted with the material. Walmart is not letting me enter this review. I have to click on the 4 stars above. I wish there were 5 or more stars to choose from. That's a problem. Also, they only give you two choices, Like and Dislike. I dislike that.Hubert

Regardless if used in sandy soil, clay soil, or fertile garden soil, my E-Go cultivator works for about 30 – 45 seconds before it idles, stopping the teeth, and completely freezing. It has gotten to the point where I only move it along the ground for about 20 – 30 seconds (and yes, I count the seconds in my head as I am using the device because this situation occurs so many many times). I have placed it on the 1 setting and the 2 setting, and the idling happens on both. after I rotate the gears back and feel them set back into their starting position, I start using the tool again. A cultivator is not a tiller, so I knew it could not be used to dig deep into the ground (more than a few inches), but the expected pauses in my garden work has made me regret purchasing this attachment. All other attachments have worked wonderfully but I would really like advice as to why the cultivator has had this issue ever since I started using in 3 – 4 months ago.First Time Gardener

Bought this to prepare a section of my grassed yard for planting native plants. The soil was very hard and there were many small tree roots and small rocks. The cultivator could not break up the compacted soil. I used a mattock to start the process. It was tough going to break everything up with the cultivator on setting #1 and I had to clear roots from the tines frequently. Once that was complete I raked out the rocks, roots and remaining sod. Then did a final pass with the cultivator on setting #2. The result was soil with a texture I could never have achieved with a spade and rake. Very impressed by the power. Like the variable speed with both settings. I was using the large battery I use with my EGO mower and leaf blower. I was going to work until the battery died and then take a break, but it outlasted me. Some may not like the total weight with the large battery, but I don't have a smaller one to compare. Very pleased with the purchase. The only negative is that I wanted to purchase online an pick up from the local store. The Cultivator Attachment could not be ordered that way and the Multi-Head System was a 2-week nightmare and I finally just paid shipping to have it delivered to my home.anonymous

The power this attachment has with its portability is almost comical. It should not be possible. It would take a week to prep my beds and gardens by hand. This cultivator allows me to complete the same chore in an hour. The unit in operational configuration is heavy, a fact that assists it during operation. I frequently use it single handed. In my soil it acts more like a vaccume cleaner. The ease of use lets me maintain the beds as weed control. Lets you have that fresh turned manicured look. And the increased aeration. If you are ammending soil this is your new best friend. One tip i do offer about this attachment is to use a blower over the area to be worked. This will rid the area of frogs and other critters that that do not fall within intended purpose of the cultivator.ImEgomaniac

The Earthquake 33970 Victory tiller has a surprisingly strong engine that does not bog down, even in deep virgin Wisconsin sod. Easy to start. Easy to maintain. I wish it had a transmission disconnect instead of having to unlock the drive wheels from the axle each time, so they are free-wheeling, when I move it from garden to garden. But that's a very minor point. Buy it! It's good.Farm boy

Worse product, should have taken the money and burned it. Had it for 30 days and on the third time using the earthquake victory the reverse stopped working and in five minutes of using the tiller it started smoking and thankfully it didn’t catch on fire. We bought from tractor supply and because it was 30 days and over they wouldn’t refund and I messaged the warranty. They gave people to fix the machine but the people they gave us won’t fix it or they are no longer in business. And no one will return our calls or messages with the warranty. The shroud under engine traps stones that jammed the drive pulley and broke the drive belt. Had to replace it. The wheel hub is cheaply wielded and broke into two pieces. Had to replace the wheel and hub. The reverse cable wire broke. I had to replace it. The tiller will not move unless the tines are turning. Thus when you put it in a garage or on a truck the tines will be turning. Works good when not breaking down. Remember once you put gas in this tiller the store you bought it from will not let you return it. So, make sure to submit the warranty online and keep your receipt of purchase. They are excellent at replacing bad or broken parts. They will ship the part the same day you file a warranty claim.Richard Stephen Day

Decided to stop looking and finally bought this little unit to help add to our current flower beds. So glad we did, this thing is amazing! It’s easy to handle, easy to adjust the depth of the blades, and gives plenty of time on the battery. It’s everything we hoped forCmCoop

If I strictly rated this on its cultivating ability I'd give it 4 stars. But I bought 4 of these and all 4 were damaged in shipping in exactly the same way! The curved metal fender that keeps dirt from flying all over the place broke through the shipping box. That resulted in the fender getting bent and having paint scraped off of its edge. If the manufacturer had packed it better it wouldn't have happened. As for how the machine works, when you’re tilling/cultivating, the wheels are useless and only make it more difficult to turn. My solution was to remove the wheels from the machine; it works much better without them. Also, the knobs that hold the handle together got caught on every tomato cage that I passed so I reversed the knobs. Now the handle doesn’t catch on things so easily. On the positive side, this machine does an decent job cultivating a previously tilled, soft sandy soil that doesn’t have rocks or sticks and the 4 AH battery has enough power to cultivate my 600 square foot garden.Bill5489

This little tiller works well for what it is built for. If you give it time, it will cultivate hard, packed soil. The battery definitely doesn’t last as long in hard soil but it does work if you give it time. The tiller is light enough that a kid can handle it. For the price, it is much easier to use and has about as much power as a “traditional” small tiller.KSpencer
