20 Best Electric Toothbrush For Gum Recession (Jan 2023 Update)

I got this after receiving a recommendation from a relative, and after about 2-3 days of use I am already seeing (and feeling) improvement with my teeth. The electric brushes I had previously were not as powerful or abrasive. This one isn't one of the uber special ones — it has one mode and that's it. That's all I really need! I noticed after the first couple of users that some of the yellowing on my teeth has eased up, but today (after drinking espresso and eating donuts), I noticed my teeth were already brighter/whiter! (Disclaimer: I do use a fluoride-free whitening toothpaste, but it has never been this effective with the electric brush I tried before or manual ones). I would recommend this to anyone who is not looking to spend $80+ dollars and/or doesn't want or need anything super fancy but would still like to see some results or get that "clean" feeling only a decent toothbrush can offer. I don't think this product would be good for children under the age of say 13 or so, especially if their gums are sensitive. The brush is very abrasive, but that's where the "clean" feeling comes from. The only "cons" I've experienced after within 72 hours of purchase is that it takes FOR. EVER. to charge (in the manual it says it can take up to 22 hours, but lasts about 10 days [with x2 a day use]). It's not really a con because the manual says overcharging this unit is impossible so you can just leave it on forever.PAMELA

I don’t like this toothbrush. I tried it for quite a while and it’s just not for me. I’ve used different brands of electric toothbrushes for years, and I just don’t like this one. It kind of feels like I put a little hand mixer in my mouth, just way too aggressive of the vibration. I’m a regular flosser, with good dental visits and this toothbrush made my gums bleed the first few times. Part of the issue is that the rotating head is just too large, but also, the motor is very loud and aggressive. One thing that is superior to my other experiences is that this one pulsates after 2 minutes but doesn’t shut off. Sometimes I like to go a little bit longer if I felt like I missed a spot. However, with this toothbrush, I found myself just hoping it was done. Another positive is that my teeth were very clean when I used it, but I couldn’t help wondering if it was causing too much harm to my gum line. I included a comparison picture so you can see the side of the toothbrush head. I used to use a combination of a manual toothbrush and a battery powered toothbrush for years until I finally decided to take a leap and purchase the Oral-B Pro 1000 rechargeable toothbrush on October 13, 2022. I started using it that night and couldn't believe how clean it got my teeth! I had a spot on my upper right tooth that had some plaque on it that the manual toothbrush just wasn't getting. Within the first use, the plaque was GONE! I will never go back to a manual toothbrush for as long as I live. If you want that "Fresh from the dentist clean" feeling everytime you brush your teeth, spend the money and get this toothbrush! I picked it up in white as well as some Equate brand replacement heads and Hello toothpaste from my local Walmart and am amazed at how much less plaque I have on my teeth as a result of using this toothbrush twice a day for two minutes! I have been a long time user of the Philips Sonicare line of powered toothbrushes. I was recommended by my Dentist about 17+ years ago to procure an electronic toothbrush to improve my oral health. Originally used the battery-operated Oral-B brand rotational brushes, but quickly switched over to the Sonicare line and I've never looked back. A version of the Sonicare toothbrush has been at my side and has travelled the world, but there has been one part of that experience that I am glad this new version has fixed. You see, the older Sonicare line toothbrushes all used a 110v charger, which meant I had to carry a 220/110v step down transformer anytime I went into Asia or Europe. Sure the battery may last 2 weeks on a full charge but anything longer and you are going to need to do a charge mid-trip. The new model fixed that issue with a slick USB charging ability. USB charging is kind of ubiquitous these days and I am glad that this new toothbrush has the ability. Slow as it may be, I rather have USB charging over not being able to charge abroad. Besides the USB charging feature, the new 4100 version has some neat features that my old toothbrush does not. Sure, the quad pacer and 2-minute timer were always there in the older models, but the new model features the ability to adjust the intensity of the brush head, an easy start for new users, a brush head replacement tracking feature with brush sync, and a pressure sensor that gives you immediate feedback that you may be using too much hand pressure. The Philips Sonicare 4100 toothbrush as an update to the old Sonicare line is much overdue. I like the fact that they have moved away from the e-series brush heads which were on the cheapest toothbrushes to the newer style brush heads. The brush head style change has fixed a few issues, one you do not have the bacteria repository that the e-series brush heads have which require frequent cleaning of the ‘well’ where the brush head sits. The new design allows you to move to different style brush heads, as it's no longer just the ‘standard head’. Should you need a quick change, there are more options for brush heads on this newer style than the older e-series. How is it to use you ask? Well, the first few times you turn it on, it would run a lower intensity brush head for you to get used to the sensation of using a sonic toothbrush, this feature was in my older models, but the ability to turn it off was not. I found the battery life isn't bad, though specs state the battery would last 28 brush sessions twice a day, which means a 14-day battery life. I for one think that is quite underestimated, as my older brushes would easily run 3+ weeks before running out of battery life. I haven't used this one long enough to see what the battery life would be like. The build quality of the toothbrush is excellent, and I would think it would last longer than the warranty provided. That said, my older brushes have run 5+ years each before needing replacements on the handle. So if you are looking for an electronic toothbrush for yourself or someone in your life, I would not hesitate to recommend Sonicare. As a long time user, I am glad to see a new model is out for the masses at a price that is affordable. First impression: My first impression of the Philips Sonicare 4100 is that it is well made, sturdy, well documented, and easy to use. It comes with the toothbrush, a hygienic head cap, a well written user manual, and a USB cable. Some models come with a travel case, but the 4100 does not. It does not come with a power adapter for charging, only a USB cable. At first, I thought this was odd, but I looked and I have 8 unused power adapters in a drawer. So, in reality, I don’t need the adapter. Plus, in my bathroom, the AC wall plate has USB charging connections, so I wouldn’t need one anyway. If you do need a power adapter, reach out to them and they will send you one. I’m very impressed with the user manual. It is small enough to easily store in a bathroom drawer, but big enough to easily read. And unlike the typical, poorly translated manuals that seem to be the norm, this manual was very well written, covering all the topics in easy-to-read English. It covers safety, product use, features and how to enable/disable, cleaning, and care. Well done Philips! Quality. The quality of this toothbrush is noticeable the instant you go to use it. The power button, which also controls all the features, is very solid. There is no play or movement except for pressing down. It seems like it will last the entire life of the toothbrush. There is also a pressure sensor which works really well. If you apply too much pressure, the toothbrush starts vibrating in a way that lets you know it’s not operating correctly. As soon as you lighten the pressure, the toothbrush immediately returns to normal operation. Like the manual says, let the toothbrush do the work. Performance: The toothbrush does a great job cleaning my teeth. It also does a much better job of removing food from between teeth than using a manual brush. It claims that it removes plaque 5X better than a manual toothbrush. I have no idea if that is correct, I will have to have my dentist verify that. But I can say that the Philips Sonicare 4100 does a great job at cleaning and removing food. The 4100 has a feature called EasyStart. For the first 14 uses, it starts off easier and slowly increases pressure until it reaches the normal state. This helps those with sensitive gums, as changing brushing can cause problems. The 4100 battery is supposed to last 2 weeks, 28 uses at 2-times a day. I have no idea if this is true, but after 3days of using, I can say the battery indication shows it is still full. I have a feeling it is accurate. Conclusion: If you are using a manual toothbrush, you might want to investigate this toothbrush. It does a much better job of cleaning than using a manual brush and does a great job a dislodging food remaining between teeth and gaps. It is easy to use and feels great on the gums. I've used many Sonicare toothbrushes over the last five years. One big problem is knowing the differences between the model lines since there's a lot of overlap. And often the "higher-end" brushes are overpriced due to features you probably don't want or care about. The 4100 series is less expensive, but still maintains all the features that matter most. It has two brushing intensity settings, a rechargeable battery that lasts weeks, a built-in two-minute timer, and is compatible with normal Sonicare brush heads. Some may complain about the lack of Bluetooth, but I really don't care if my toothbrush can talk to my phone. And I really don't need a mobile application that tracks my toothbrushing regimen. It doesn't have the newest fangled AI auto sense IQ thingy, but its basic brushing sequence is more than adequate for scrubbing and cleaning my teeth. The 4100 doesn't come with a travel case, but that may not matter to a lot of people. I would like second brush head in the box. Instead you get a flyer with a free brush head offer. If you've been considering an electric toothbrush, but were hesitant to drop $100 or more one one, the 4100 should definitely be high on your list. The 6100 series is still my go-to model. Those have a third intensity setting and can switch between tooth cleaning, whitening, and gum care brushing modes, which can be helpful for some people. But at $20-$30 less for the 4100, those are pretty nit-picky at this price point.Jaron

OMG, this electric toothbrush is a game changer. I'm typically wary of using a product I haven't been able to test before, but the quality of this brush makes me feel like I've just had my teeth professionally cleaned. I LOVE this tooth brush!! It cleans my teeth really well. After switching to this brush my dentist even commented on how well my teeth looked even though he didn’t know I had switched brushes. I love the different settings (tongue, deep clean, etc) and the variety of brush heads. The base is great for holding and charging the brush as well as holding four brush heads. The brush lets you know when it’s time to switch to another part of your mouth (the two minute timer is broken into 30 seconds segments). I purchased the Oral-B Genius X 10000 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. This is without a doubt the best electric toothbrush I've ever used. I've been using electric toothbrushes for a long time and this one is without a doubt the best. I'd always been hesitant to buy an Oral-B toothbrush since the round heads didn't seem to make sense to me. That was a mistake on my part. I really appreciate how thoroughly it cleans my teeth. I didn't like the reviews saying it doesn't have as much power as the rechargeable one, but I got it anyway. I disagree, great quality Duracell Rechargeable Batteries I use in everything offers just about the same effect of the rechargeable version, the general version, I know there are extremely expensive rechargeable Oral-B brushes out there. I could have used a more expensive version, I guess, but this works just fine as it is. My other brand moves in the wrong direction, causing the back of the brush to clatter hard against my teeth, here is the non-moving regular Oral-B style, identical to the rechargeable version. Note – Rechargeable batteries must be removed and recycled at Home Depot or someplace, they shouldn't be put into the garbage like normal batteries.Oceans

These tooth brushes are well built. The heads are removable and made in a standard size which makes it easy to find a replacement for them. The batteries are also removable, standard size, and easily replaced with rechargeable batteries. The only thing that could necessitate you buying another tooth brush after this one is if you lost it, or if the motor wore out. My kids have had the first set of these things that I bought for years, but one of them finally lost one, so I was super happy to see that someone was still selling these. This Phillips Sonicare Diamond Clean toothbrush has been an absolute game changer in my daily routine. It’s beautiful, sleek, futuristic design and gorgeously subtle pink colour means that it sits beautifully on my bathroom shelf. I didn’t ever think I would be as proud as I am now to display a toothbrush! The product itself is also amazing and I cant rate it highly enough. It comes with 4 different cleaning modes; Clean, White+, Gum Health and deep clean. My personal favourite of these settings was the White+ mode as I have been wanting to achieve a brighter, whiter smile. As an avid coffee drinker, I wasn’t sure if this toothbrush would be able to help me with the staining on my teeth, but after only a few weeks I am absolutely amazed with this toothbrush and its abilities. I feel confident that my teeth are getting a good cleaning with this brush, so I will focus on the bluetooth app, which could be better. First, for the deep cleaning setting, the app has you brush in 6 discrete areas, front and back. It can show you whether you are brushing in the designated area, but it doesn't always pick up the brushing, and it doesn't pick it up if you are outside the area. It would be nice if you could change the amount of time for each designated area, especially since you can mark areas that need more attention (but the app only marks the area graphically and doesn't add time). The app is designed to make the user want the teeth to turn all white, but even when you spend the allotted time in an area, the shading might be white on one side and light gray on the other, leaving a less than optimal user experience. Furthermore, if you miss an area, either by not spending enough time or the app not reading, the app highlights the area in yellow and you are given 20 seconds per area to turn it white. If you continue brushing the app doesn't register the additional time beyond the overtime it has allowed. Another annoying factor is if I brush in the morning and then after midnight, it acts like I only brushed once during the day and gives me annoying helpful reminders to brush twice a day.Giant1

My first electric toothbrush was the first version of Sonicare. I switched to Oral B after a few years. When I switched back to Sonicare I got the first version of DiamondClean. I was astounded. It felt like I went to the dentist and received a professional cleaning from a hygienist! 6 years later that DiamondClean died. I knew I was gonna get another. Upon searching one out, I was surprised to discover that there were two versions that were even more advanced. I really wanted the Prestige just because I often try to get the best available, but the price was a little beyond my justified budget. And after reviewing these extensively, I determined that I was proficient enough to accomplish everything I need for an excellent teeth brushing experience with the DiamondClean 9300. Almost half the price of the prestige. I will say that if I was single and didn’t have kids and wife to provide for I probably would’ve gotten the Prestige. I just love the look of the case and some of the other technology benefits seemed great. So I got me and my wife the 9300, and connected them with the app, and I have been greatly enjoying the experience of having the app guide the areas to brush to make sure I cover each area sufficiently and for the optimal amount of time. This has helped me to be more patient with and to actually enjoy the process. I’m excited to keep my numbers up. Whereas I used to only brush for one minute, now I do a full two minutes. This toothbrush is very impressive! It was easy to unbox and set up, the directions were brief but thorough and easy to follow, and BONUS: it came with coupons for other brush heads!!! I will just dive into the pros and cons of this brush: Pros: You can monitor how long you're brushing your teeth for and every 30 seconds it lets you know to move on to another part of your mouth (bottom left, bottom right, top left, top right), but if you want to go longer than 2 minutes, the brush doesn't stop after 120 seconds so you can go back to a problem area or brush your tongue, etc. It is also completely waterproof, so if you're a messy brusher (like me) you can rinse the whole toothbrush off when you're all done without worrying about damaging the brush. There are different cleaning modes for a light clean, a heavy clean, and more so you have even more control of how you're brushing. There are also multiple brush head options. One I definitely want to try is the pointed one, which looks like a pyramid so you can target hard to reach areas between your teeth! Once I finished brushing for the first time, I felt like I had cleaned weeks of plaque off, as if I had just left the dentist after a cleaning. My teeth felt amazing! This toothbrush is stored right on the charger, you can't overcharge it which is perfect because it's one less thing to worry about! Possibly my favorite part: THE APP. The app tracks your brushing and shows you how long you brushed each day, it reminds you to use mouthwash and floss, it shows tips for keeping your healthiest teeth, and it even has news articles to read while you brush! Cons: The brush itself is heavy because of the battery inside it so it takes some getting used to. The brush heads are a little pricey compared to a "normal" toothbrush, but I think you're getting more value out of it, so it's worth it. The brush vibrates a lot while you brush and it's intense so after a few uses my gums started to really hurt and get tender. Sometimes I felt like my fillings could come out! This was my first electric toothbrush and I'm never going back to a manual one. In just a few days, there's an extreme noticeable difference in the cleanliness of my teeth. Plaque buildup was immediately removed and doesn't come back throughout the day – something that I've had issues with for several years now. I can also tell how well this toothbrush works when I floss. I used to remove a ton of gunk from between my teeth but this toothbrush hits those spots, resulting in an easier and extra clean floss process. Not only does that make my mouth look cleaner, but improves my breath as well. The brush is also helpful in that it uses lights to notify you of a couple mistakes you're making. It flashes to tell you to move sides of your mouth (flashes every 30 seconds) and it flashes and even turns off if you're applying too much pressure. The second function is especially awesome for me because my dentist have told me that I've been using too much pressure. The two "downsides" with this toothbrush aren't even major issues. It does take a long time (12ish hours from my experience) to charge the first time you use it but after that, it stays charged for weeks. The toothbrush also moves really quickly, splattering toothpaste everywhere if it's not in your mouth. The instructions warn you of this, though, and I'm sure I won't make that mistake again after having to clean white specs from around my bathroom. Just make sure that the toothbrush is inside your mouth before turning it on. I do have to say that the Bluetooth capability of the toothbrush is a bit silly. When I first got the toothbrush, I downloaded the app and was actually excited about the idea of it, but it just seems gimmicky. It might be useful for people with major dental issues who want to track their teeth cleaning habits, but for the rest of us, it's just meh. I did use the timer function for a few days but realized I can just use my iPhone's timer and save myself the space the app takes up. I got the Electric Toothbrush plus Aligner Brush Head before I got my kit with my aligners. The kit arrived the night before I was leaving for a two week cruise vacation, so I grabbed the first two aligners and the other items I thought I would need. Having never worn aligners, I didn't know what to expect, but soon learned that the aligner head was definitely needed. But what impressed me most was the design of the toothbrush, stand, and storage. I love that the stand doubles as a cover for the head … and the aligner brush! It was easy to quickly grab the brush and stand and tuck it away for travel. It's very slim, so slid easily in my purse (along with the case) so I could take care of my aligners on the go, even in restaurants! I’ve tried several electric toothbrushes over the years an every one has made my gums/teeth ache. My dentist keeps telling me to use one and I keep telling him this same story. However, I got to add this one to an order for my aligners for free during a promotion. Well I’m pleased to say I have had NO aching gums /teeth. I LOVE this toothbrush and its design, so much so I purchased one for my husband who complimented the design (The one I ordered for him has a magnet on the toothbrush holder bottom which I would have preferred – I’m not sure if mine has the “stick on” version because it has space for the aligner small brush…?) I haven’t used the stick on because I use the case when I travel. I have an automatic order of 4 of the replacement heads which saves money (I can change the dates!) and makes this toothbrush almost the same price as “regular” toothbrush but gives me a better clean and I love the vibrating “timer” so I do 2 full minutes on my teeth which will make my dentist happy the next time I see him. The idea of the toothbrush is nice. Smaller than most electric toothbrushes, had a travel case, you can hang it on the case with the magnet, and it was free. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed with how it cleans my teeth. My teeth haven't felt completely clean since I started using it. I always feel like there's some plaque left even though I concentrate on those areas with the toothbrush. It's a bit too long, but then all toothbrushes are . I really prefer the round head toothbrushes. I have trouble getting to all of my back teeth in the front curve with the rectangular heads. I'm back to the search for yhe perfect toothbrush for me. There was a company that made an electric toothbrush with a round head that I really liked but as time went on their products became more cheaply made and the rechargeable batteries would die completely in a short time. Another company has a round head but for some reason there is a slit in the toothbrush head that grows bacteria in it no matter how well you rinse it after each use. I was able to purchase this on sale, and I was still skeptical of spending this much money on an electric toothbrush. I had a basic Sonicare years back and didn't think that much of it – it was just "ok". I tended to go back to a manual toothbrush more often and just used the electric occasionally. I think it was because the brush head felt too small and the handle was bulkier. The 9900 Prestige feels more like a normal size and the handle itself is smaller and lighter. I also thought it was kind of hokie with the "smart" features, like "who REALLY needs that?" However it's a game changer and it is absolutely amazing. I've only been using it three days now, but I LOVE the smart features. I didn't realize I had areas that needed more attention – I always felt like I was hitting everything I needed to. Honestly, it's a beautiful toothbrush (I got it in rose gold) so it's pretty on my countertop. I also love that it's thoughtfully designed. The charging base has a frosted plastic cover so it doesn't get wet but doesn't ruin the appeal. The toothbrush is lightweight, and the bottom flashes between two different colors depending on if you are moving around too much or pressing too hard. I also love the buzz to let you know to move on from a section. I also know I'm getting a great clean when I'm using this toothbrush! I love the three strength settings too. I'm still on level 1, which is plenty for me, but I like that it can be controlled as I know other electric toothbrushes don't always allow for that. Even on level 1, sometimes I'll splash a bit and foam quite a bit, but it just took a bit of getting used to. I'm happy to adjust knowing I'm getting cleaner teeth in return! I did start with the app, which was cool to see where I might have missed a spot in my teeth, but I've since stopped using it as the toothbrush itself has plenty of features to help guide me in my toothbrushing. The Philips Sonicare 9900 Prestige has impressive cleaning performance paired with a real time feedback app to improve dental health far beyond what can be achieved with a manual brush. In the box is the toothbrush, head, charging stand, USB charging cable, power adaptor, and charging travel case. While not required for operation, in order to fully leverage the benefits of this toothbrush you will need to download the app. I had no issues downloading and running on my Android phone. While you can brush without the app open, if you want real time feedback and history tracking you will need to open it when you brush. To pair to the app you need to put the brush on the base, open the app, and then turn on the toothbrush, at which point the app will begin tracking the two minute program and your brushing habits. Within the app you can select multiple brushing options: three different intensity settings, and five different cleaning modes that range between 2:00 minutes to 3:20 minutes based on if your goal is sensitive, deep cleaning, gum health, whiten, or clean (default setting). The SenseIq technology takes a bit of getting used to between the brush movement and the app response, but easy to navigate once you get used to the slight lag between where you are brushing and what the app shows. The app breaks the mouth into 6 sections and then each section gets a 20 second interval. Based on the toothbrush movement the app can identify which section of your mouth you have covered and then provides feedback if you brush too hard, move too fast, and adapts the intensity of the vibration based on the pressure you apply. The app will also let you know if you have missed an area and you can go back to that area to turn the section 'green', see photo for example of this feedback. The app also contains dental health tips, tracks brush head life and provides notification when to reorder. It leaves my teeth feeling extremely clean, as if I just came from the dentist's office. The young lady at the Lloyds counter was totally incompetent. We had to wait a long time whilst she wandered around, with no idea, looking for the order of the lady in front of us. She then involved the pharmacist and they both looked around before finding her package next to the counter. We then had to experience that same chaotic search, where she clearly had no idea what she was doing, before finding our package. At one stage she asked us ‘is it a fridge item?’- when it was a toothbrush!!! What a complete disaster. I do not suppose that you will wish to record this abysmal experience. It would be nice to hear from you with your reaction to this poor customer experience but I will not hold my breath.Matthew

I bought this a while back and have never looked back. This one of the best Oral-B pro3 cross action i have used. My teeth have never looked so good. I have been ill the last few years and the medication really showed on my teeth very upsetting. Untill i got this toothbrush it did cost a lot at the time but well worth it my teeth now are looking feeling so much nicer. Took a few weeks to get the resulits i was wishing for but could see a difference after a few days. So clean bright healthy looking whole mouth feels fresh clean. I have already reviewed the white version, so this is the same product and just a different colour. Again, I cannot fault this product at all. The price may be too steep for some but I really think it is worth the premium price. Almost as good as a hygienist appointment! To add to the other review, it has a great interactive display which you can use to change the setting e.g from teeth to tongue brushing. I definitely recommend loading the app to track your brushing – this was especially helpful to my daughter who neglects certain areas of her mouth. It encourages her to ensure that she applies the correct pressure and gives the same brushing attention to every tooth. So instead of the usual 10 second brush, she now brushes for the full two minutes. It is not whisper quiet but it not a deafening noise either. It is easy to charge and having two brushes means I only needed one charger. Such a wonderful toothbrush and I look with envy at the newer version out!Julie

I couldn’t justify the price difference to buy the IO8, which appears to have more features, but the reviews for this IO6 were good so opted for what is still expensive for a toothbrush even at sale price of £110. I was expecting something better then my existing 5 year old 5000 series, but I wasn’t expecting this huge difference. Quieter than the old style, it vibrates away rather than rumbling. Following the 2 minute guide on the app, my teeth genuinely feel clean, proper clean all over! Note: Black and Grey have whitening function. On pink this is replaced with a second Ultra sensitive function. Must add, Staff at Fareham branch were really helpful. I opted to buy in branch after checking stock on line. If you are not fussed with fast charge, I believe this is as good as IO7/8. A 2 minute brush uses around 8-10% battery so should last 4-5 days per charge. Love it! I was a very happy Oral B user for many years. I had switched to Sonicare because I liked the way it vibrated, but never liked the brush shape. This Oral B iO is the best of both – the round brush that I'd always preferred, plus the updated vibration…er…style? The relatively small charger will be great for travelling. My teeth feel really clean, the purple is really pretty, and the timer makes cute little faces. It's just a wee bit expensive and I wish it'd been on sale, but I love the thing so oh well. Unboxing the Philips Sonicare 2100 was a pleasant surprise. Easy to get into and very minimal packaging. Contents were simple: A toothbrush handle, a toothbrush head, and a charging stand with a USB connector at the end of the cord. No charging brick is supplied, but it appears that any old USB charger you have in a drawer will probably work fine. I’m using one that came from an old Chromecast we decommissioned years ago. The documentation says it was omitted to reduce environmental impact, etc., and if you want one to contact Philips. Contact instructions are included. A full charge can take up to a day, but the instructions say it can be used with partial charge. When the toothbrush is placed on the charging stand, there is a double beep signaling correct placement, and a battery level indicator LED toward the base of the toothbrush handle lights up. I have only been using the brush for a few days at this point, but after the initial charge it is still going strong. Brushing is a straightforward process. The Philips Sonicare ships in a mode called EasyStart that gradually increases vibration intensity over 14 days of use. This is to allow the user time to become accustomed to the new brushing method. The toothbrush automatically shuts off after two minutes of operation. It has a cool feature Philips calls Quadpacer that beeps and pulses brush operation at 30-second intervals as a cue to move on to the next quadrant/area of your mouth. It’s a handy reminder. For years I have used an electric toothbrush with a round oscillating head, and I always thought it did a good job. After using the Philips Sonicare 2100 a handful of times, I can tell you that I have never had a better home toothbrush. Its performance exceeds any expectations I had. I have had several electric toothbrushes over the years and always have had mixed results. The Philips Sonicare 2100 Power Toothbrush is no different – mixed results. The first thing you will notice (as with all the Phillips Sonicare toothbrushes) is that it built very well. Fit and finish are top notch and the toothbrush is well balanced. For such relatively low initial cost, Phillips so confident in the quality that they give you a 2-year warranty. Battery life is most probably unbelievable. I’ve only had the toothbrush for 3 days, but I own its predecessor and it was last weeks on end. Oddly enough, I had not used the older version in over 2 years, and it still held a charge when I used to compare it to the 2100. Everything sounds good so far but let’s look at the mixed results part. There is nothing inherently wrong with design, but I find the vibrating only head a bit to much to bear. I also find that if I compared the vibrating head to a competitor’s rotating head (which I currently use,) I find the rotating head does a more thorough job at cleaning. It’s not that the Philips Sonicare 2100 Power Toothbrush does not do a good job, I just find the competitor does a better job. Keep in mind that I do not have anything empirical to back that up, just a feeling that the rotating head design on the competition does a better job in the same time. With that in mind, I am in a tough position for a review. The product is built well and some people may prefer the vibrating head design of Philips Sonicare 2100. I love my new Sonicare power toothbrush. I’ve previously used battery operated spinning brushes you buy in the toothbrush section, but this is my first time trying a Sonicare. This is also the first time I’ve had to read the instructions for a toothbrush before using it, lol. And I’m glad I did! At first glance you think, just charge it, press the button, brush and done. But there is so much more here. This toothbrush not only gives you a top-notch sonic cleaning, it also instructs you along the way! The Sonicare 2100 comes nicely packaged in a small easy to recycle box. Along with the handle unit it includes a charging base, USB charging cable, one toothbrush head and a hygienic travel cap. This does not come with a power adapter, however you can contact Philips support to have onc sent to you for free. There is also an offer to receive a free brush head, however after following the steps I couldn’t figure out how to get it so I called customer support. I was told that you have to sign up for one of the Sonicare brush head subscription plans to receive the free head. The subscription plans cost between $7.99 and $11.99 every three months to receive a new head every three months. Furthermore, out of the eight brush head designs they offer, all but one are currently out of stock. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a new brush head in three months, when it’s time to replace mine. The vibrations from the Sonicare can take some getting used to, but luckily it comes preset with the EasyStart feature turned on. EasyStart gently increases the power over your first fourteen brushings to help you adapt to brushing with the Sonicare. You can turn this feature off if you don’t want to wait fourteen brushings to experience the full power of your Sonicare. Another cool feature of the Sonicare is something they call the QuadPacer, an interval timer that has a short beep and pause to remind you to brush the four sections of your mouth evenly and thoroughly. It gives you thirty seconds to brush each section. The instruction booklet includes a diagram of teeth and how to divide it into the four sections. There is also a SmarTimer feature which turns off the toothbrush after two minutes of brushing, which is the minimum time recommended by Dental professionals. Personally, I don’t understand why they choose to set the timer to the minimum recommended time. Why shoot for the minimum? Also, the QuadPacer has you brush the front top, back top, front bottom, back bottom, then the timer goes off. It doesn’t offer time to brush the top and bottom chewing surfaces. You have to start the brush again to continue brushing. Either I’m not understanding this fully or they didn’t put much thought into the timing between the QuadPacer and the SmarTimer. Either way, it’s not that hard to press the button again and go for another round of brushing. The battery seems to last a long time, I’ve been using this for about five days now and have only charged it once, after I first got it. I’ll probably only charge it when the battery light indicator starts flashing at me, that way I don’t have to have a cord and charger sitting on my bathroom countertop all the time. Overall I’m very happy that I got this Sonicare toothbrush. Brushing just got a little more exciting and my teeth feel cleaner than ever before! I don’t think I’ll go back to a regular toothbrush again, unless I can’t find any new brush heads. We will see. 😉Orion

The toothbrush worked well for the first week only but thereafter it continually needs charging as otherwise it fails to operate, so it may be a problem with the battery. I now leave it on charge overnight so it works properly for a couple of days at a time only.nigel770007

I ordered this toothbrush not realizing how much came with it so I did some research on pricing and am impressed. It has been a while since I had an electric toothbrush. The one I purchased through my dentist did not come with all that this does. I like that it comes with a travel case so that I can take it with me. It is also great that it comes with additional brush heads. My previous electric toothbrush only came with 2 brush heads in a pack for $25. Plus every time I ran out, it would take me awhile to remember to get more. The look is very sleek and stylish. Crazy as it seems, I like seeing this toothbrush in my bathroom vs my $1 ones sitting in a toothbrush holder. The smart timer is also great feature to have if you don't know how long to brush. Also ideal for someone with a child or older parent who needs a friendly reminder to keep brushing. This shuts off after 1 min and then starts up again for another 1 min. Pros: smart timer, 4 different cleaning modes, wireless, sleek looking, travel pack and accessories. Cons: None really but my fingers sometimes hit different modes. I can tell right away when I am not on the mode I want but its not a big deal, I just push the button until I get the cleaning mode I like. I am not a fan of the massage but again, not a big deal. All in all, I love it and now my child wants one which I will be getting soon. I have used every kind of electric toothbrush out there and I am really very impressed with this AquaSonic Black Series Ultra Whitening Toothbrush. It's very light weight compared to other electric toothbrushes and I love that the tootbrush head is nice and soft and small enough to be able to reach to the back teeth comfortably. There are eight toothbrush heads included which will last more than a year and a very nice case to take the toothbrush with you when traveling. The AquaSonic is much quieter than any other electric toothbrush that I have used which is a plus. It has four different cleaning modes to choose from and a built in timer which allows you to brush your teeth for two minutes and then it stops. If you have ever used an electric toothbrush, you probably know that you are supposed to brush your teeth in quadrants to make sure you are getting all your teeth evenly cleaned. During the brushing, this toothbrush will make a slight pause every 30 seconds and this is the signal to move to the next quadrant of your mouth to continue brushing. I really like this pause feature because other electric toothbrushes I have used gave a buzz instead of a pause, and with the noise of the toothbrush, I could never hear it. The pause is a much better way to let the user know to move to the next quadrant. Overall I am very happy with the AquaSonic toothbrus and would definitely recommend it!MissM

So far, I'm very pleased with this toothbrush. It's quiet, easy to hold, and doesn't need constant charging. I looked at a lot of other options before I chose this one. Most of the others I looked at didn't have an auto shut-off after 2 minutes. I love that feature. I also needed one that has smaller brush heads, as my mouth is almost child-size. Just received this toothbrush a few days ago. It has some very nice features but a couple that I personally don't like so much. The good: I think it's a good value for the price compared to other brands. It seems to vibrate very quickly and efficiently without too much shaking. As far as I can tell, it seems to do a good job of cleaning the teeth and getting into tight areas. I like having the four different levels of vibrating. I also like that it doesn't have a small round brush like most other electric toothbrushes have. This brush is not giant, but it's bigger than the little round ones – I think the small round brushes take longer to clean your teeth with because you can only brush one tooth at a time. It's great that this toothbrush has a rechargable plug-in handle. I was concerned that it would flop over in the charging cup like the picture shows, but it seems to be able to stand up straight if you don't bump it. I don't think that I would want to use the cup to drink from after storing the toothbrush handle in it, but that's just my personal feeling. If you care about the looks of your toothbrush, this one is very elegant looking. I mostly bought this model because it comes with so many replacement brushes, as well as a brush cover for each brush. It also has a travel case. A few small things that I don't care for: First, I don't need anything to signal me when I have brushed long enough – I brush until I have covered all of the tooth surfaces sufficiently. This brush automatically pauses every 30 seconds to signal you to move to a different part of your mouth – it's not a long pause, but to me it's an uneccessary delay. Then after 2 minutes, the automatically brush shuts off completely. Since I always brush longer than that, I have to press the button to restart the toothbrush. Again, a minor annoyance. Would be nice to have the option to disable those timers, but not a deal-breaker for the toothbrush. Another little annoyance is that the instructions say that you should pull off the toothbrush head after each use to rinse and then dry the handle and the brush separately. It's easy to pull of the brush head from the handle, and I appreciate being able to clean under the brush, but it would be easier if you could just rinse and dry the whole thing without taking the head off. As long as this toothbrush has good durability which I will find out as time goes on, I think that it's overall a winner so far.Linda

I live this tooth brush. The overall feel of the handle is great. It’s lightweight, slim and has a soft material feel; not like your usual plastic. It comes with a case that holds all the extra heads and a plastic cover piece to place over the head you are currently using; very pleasing. The glass cup that is used to not only charge the brush wirelessly but also can be used to rinse; is very thick and made of great quality. It’s got a little weight to it which I like. I find it fascinating that you can put the brush right into the cup and it charges wirelessly. There are 2 settings to use when brushing your teeth, soft and medium and I love that I have that option to switch between the two without having to change the brush. It feels great on my teeth and I am beyond happy with this brush. I would highly recommend it to all my friends and family.Craftmom23

I did A LOT of research before buying a new toothbrush. And I love this toothbrush. I can't express how crazy i am about my teeth. 3 mouth washes, 2 tooth pastes and 2 toothbrushes, kind of crazy, okay? The good news? This has cut down my ritual to 1 toothbrush! It's a little aggressive at the beginning, i would suggest taking it easy on the pressure to get your gums used to it, but it's fantastic! I use the clean mode and whitening mode the most. I didn't like the reviews saying it doesn't have as much power as the rechargeable one, but I got it anyway. I disagree, great quality Duracell Rechargeable Batteries I use in everything offers just about the same effect of the rechargeable version, the general version, I know there are extremely expensive rechargeable Oral-B brushes out there. I could have used a more expensive version, I guess, but this works just fine as it is. My other brand moves in the wrong direction, causing the back of the brush to clatter hard against my teeth, here is the non-moving regular Oral-B style, identical to the rechargeable version. Note – Rechargeable batteries must be removed and recycled at Home Depot or someplace, they shouldn't be put into the garbage like normal batteries.Oceans

These tooth brushes are well built. The heads are removable and made in a standard size which makes it easy to find a replacement for them. The batteries are also removable, standard size, and easily replaced with rechargeable batteries. The only thing that could necessitate you buying another tooth brush after this one is if you lost it, or if the motor wore out. My kids have had the first set of these things that I bought for years, but one of them finally lost one, so I was super happy to see that someone was still selling these. I bought this for my 8yo daughter who has a hard time focusing on brushing her teeth for a full two minutes. Most of the time she will get so distracted that she stops early. This toothbrush vibrates every 30 seconds to ensure you know when to switch to different parts of your mouth, and it stops vibrating when your 2 minutes are up. The only thing I don't care about this toothbrush is that to top just vibrates. I thought this was prefect for my daughter based on the above mentioned features. The bristles themselves don't move at all. I do like that head of the toothbrush is small enough for her mouth, and the the vibration feature keeps her on track with brushing her teeth properly and for the full 2 minutes. Also it is battery operated. It died after two regular uses after purchase. It will require a AAA battery but it is very easy to replace.KAC23

The rest of my family uses a sonicare toothbrush. I have my own toothbrush head but use my husbands handheld. I thought this looked like a great deal since he was leaving town and needed the entire toothbrush. Its lightweight, sleek, stylish, its a very nice looking tooth brush. My first use, and each subsequent use has left much to be desired. My teeth feel cleaner after using a standard toothbrush. It has a small head and totally flat bristles. I have been wanting a electric toothbrush for a long while, but couldn't justify spending so much for one. Excited to try the Gleem Black battery operated toothbrush. The battery was already included and installed right out of the package which is a great. The power button was easily located and turned on and off with no problem. My only complaint is that the brush itself seemed small. Compared to a childs toothbrush this barely was the size of my two front teeth. I wish there were different modes instead on just one. It literally felt like we left the dentist after trying it out. I do recommend using the water feature on the lowest setting to start out because it comes out really fast and a little harsh. The extra accessories work great. I really love the lighted mirror. I could not believe how much better I can see the inside of my mouth now. The toothbrush part worked great, just make sure you charge it for 24 hours like directions state. I really liked how the directions are very clear and easy to understand. The brush heads are even color coded to avoid confusion and are stored with a cover to keep germs, etc out. I'm actually keeping the original box that it came in because it is in color and explains every piece so well. There are so many parts to it, so I don't want to miss any of the benefits. I am really impressed with this dental center- I was worried that it would be literally all built-in, but it's basically the two machines (toothbrush and irrigator), and a stand that holds those & all of the accoutrements in a compact fashion. This means that you can disassemble everything and CLEAN them, which, if you have a family, you KNOW you're going to have to! The whole thing is well-thought-out- the irrigator (water flosser) has multiple attachments, and provides power on a par with a well-known name brand (rhymes with cotter flick). The toothbrush setup is clever, too, in that you don't have to have multiple handle units plugged in all the time, drawing "zombie" electricity for no good reason! The downside to this is that, since you're sharing your handle and irrigator with the whole fam, you'll likely have to clean more often, but really, shouldn't we all be doing that anyway? I needed a new toothbrush and I wasn't prepared to pay for the new style brushes that mount the charger much easier using magnets. I watch the advert and read the the brawn information. The toothbrush on its own is fine it's very lightweight compared to the last one I had, and the battery lasts a lot longer (my last toothbrush was on its last legs and a full charge only gave 6 days worth of brushing.) The modes built-in on the toothbrush easy switch between and the new display where it lights up to tell you which mode is selected is also an improvement. The case is just a bit of plastic that does absolutely nothing. I read somewhere that it had the ability to be used as a backup battery in case you needed to charge on the go. The software isn't very good, as long as it is paid to your phone and your phone is on and relatively close it does track where you have spent your time brushing. This is however not adjustable which means if you have had teeth removed from your mouth it just assumes you have not brushed those teeth. That is a big oversight in the AI technology where it promised to show you where you need to spend more time brushing. Essentially the software is just a way of them reminding you you that you need to change your toothbrush heads every 3 months. Really that's all it does. Very little point in cooking it up to your phone. Maybe I can see a reason for children as you get badges on completing certain tasks but for the majority of people you could easily go for the cheaper brush without the AI rubbish. I also felt they could have provided a better selection of brushes in the twin pack. My brushes were black or white (I got two of them being a twin pack) but they were of different types. I ended up using the white one on the black toothbrush and purchasing a totally different brush for the for the rose coloured. I have been using an electric toothbrush for years and this definitely seems to be one of the better products; the brand was recommended by my dentist.Rita

Firstly let me say that I found this super easy to set up and charge. After given it, it's first full charge it seems it lasts for over 30 hours. After my first use of this toothbrush, I found it very easy to clean with detachable heads that also are replaceable. The bristles are soft yet tough on stains and plaque. The twisting motion gets into all the small nooks and gaps right up to the gum line. I suffer regularly from bleeding gums and have been told that it is partly because I brush too hard. I have found that using this brush it has alleviated that problem. Since using this toothbrush, my teeth feel much cleaner and fresher. I do not think I have used all the functions this amazing toothbrush has to offer, but I am sure that I will given time.. I would love to win these so that I can give them to my children and then they would know how clean and fresh a mouth should be.Ravi

This product is advertised as holds its charge for 2 weeks after one full charge, that might have been the case in the first month, but thereafter, I found myself charging this every few days. The case that comes with the toothbrush is also a bit of a misleading thing, The wording at the time implied it was one that would act as a portable charger for my toothbrush when I’m away from home, turns out you still have to plug it in. The Bluetooth tracking “AI” as well isn’t actually that smart – it indicates where you might be brushing but it’s not accurately detecting anything, sometimes it thinks I’m on the other side of my mouth because I moved my wrist for a second. It can’t even tell if I’ve brushed both sides of my teeth either. I tested this by holding it in the place for 30seconds and the app flashed up as if I’d fully cleaned the area. It’s ok for guidance, but it’s not really right to advertise this as “genius” or “smart” technology – and I work in tech so I know. Glad I got this at the sale price because it’s honestly not that impressive to justify paying full price.Milli

My husband, daughter and I have been using Philips Sonicare Toothbrushes for a couple of decades now. The dental tech always praises me for having so little plaque and for brushing so well! The handle's battery life is excellent … Goes for a long time between charges, and, the handles last for several years. I've never replaced one because of failure, only because it was taking longer to charge, and the charge wasn't lasting as long – lasting a couple of weeks instead of a couple of months. My one and only complaint is that they've discontinued the compact heads. My daughter and I have small mouths, and the compact heads were GREAT for better maneuverability in those tight spaces in the back!!CrazyOldNana

This is the best brand of electric toothbrushes, hands down. Many dentists recommend Sonicare and every one of their toothbrushes works great. I have one of the older, basic varieties and have been using it for years, it really does cut down on frequent visits to the dentists for fillings. I bought one for every member in my family and noticed a difference in the first four months of using this. No more cavities for us! It also does a great job at keeping plaque and gingivitis at bay. I have had my for probably ten years now. Previously I had been using an older Sonicare, and I’m definitely going to buy another once this one stops working. I get compliments on my oral hygiene from the dental hygienist, which is nice. The more time you spend taking care of your teeth, the less time you have to spend in the dentist chair! The vibration from the Sonicare helps to remove debris from my teeth as well as partially in between my teeth. And that same vibration helps stop a bad habit I have with regular toothbrushes: pressing too hard on my teeth when brushing. You can’t do that with a Sonicare because the vibration from the brush head on your teeth is downright unpleasant. The battery on my Sonicare lasts forever and it charges back up quickly.
