Very disappointed .Firstly the bearing that was in there couldn’t take the load and failed, when retrieving the boat. I had the bearing replaced Marine Deals didn’t want to know. The guy that fixed it told me that the winches were made under license in China and had put lighter bearings in. Now the casing screws that hold cover in place have pulled through. I rang Marine Deals told the man there about the problem and he laughed and said that the winch was seven years old what do you expect .I really look after my gear and wasn’t the answer I wanted. What I was enquiring about was if I could purchase a new cover for the winch. Over the years I have spent a lot of money with you people and that’s the way that I get treated. DISAPPOINTED. I bought the RC23 a little over 2 years ago. I only use my trailer 5 or 6 times a year as my boat 'lives' on a lift most of the time. This product is worthless! The first one broke the second time used. A friend managed to fix it for me as i didn't have time to get another, etc. Short lived fix. Bought winch to pull an ice shack onto a trailer. It worked good for that, then the problem. I went to release the winch and I could not get the winch to free wheel so I could loosen tension. Can not get the cable to pull out from the winch at all. After being on hold for an hour and a half with customer service finally talked to tech. Couldn't get anything figured out so now I have to return the winch to where I bought it. I will say once I was able to talk to a tech he was very helpful with figuring out how to return the winch.
Used as a trailer winch. Used for winching tree stumps onto a trailer. Tree stumps were not much over 300 lbs each. This winch was unfortunately one of my bigger wastes of money. Maybe I had too high of an expectation for it, but it had great difficulty winching small cedar tree stumps onto an inclined trailer even using a snatch block. The winch actually stopped and shut down on several occasions and we had to wait for it to reset. I didn't mind the slow speed, but when it completely stopped I was surprised. The opening for the cable and hook is too small for the hook supplied and even at unboxing the hook was wedged into the opening and against the reel and had to be pryed out as it had been tightened in too far from the factory. The line does not wind back in very well and binds up on the reel making the line very difficult to unspool and pull out. DO NOT use the manual cranking handle as the clutch shaft threads are soft and it will mash the threads. The manual clutch mechanism needs to be re-thought for for any usage of a manual crank handle. Eventually after getting all the line out (forcibly) and rewinding the cable back in, it worked somewhat better, but was still far below my expectations for the light use I subjected it to.
Lawn equipment occasionally breaks. It's been a royal pain getting broke tractors loaded onto my trailer. I'm 78 & got tired of the hassle .. and don't want to pay the dealer $100+ to pick it up. This little winch was just what I needed. Backed my tilt trailer near the machine, took the winch out of the box, gave the instructions a quick read, hooked it up .. and it pulled the Deere ZTR right up the hill! The battery cable was about 3' too short for my Tundra so I parked my golf cart close by & used its battery. Used the ball on my Kubota as an anchor point. No problems. I stopped a couple of times to be sure the ZTR was tracking (which gave the motor a little rest). Never had any overheating issues. Next time, I'll use a snatch block to make it even easier on the winch. And, yes, I'm recommending to friends and, no, I don't have any connections with Champion. LOL ball on my Kubota as my anchor point.

I had 1 for 10 years that I used a lot. As a contractor don't know why this has such a low rating. I'm buying it again because I really abuse the one I had. I just left a rating for the same thing on Amazon but it's much cheaper here at Walmart. 10 years ago I got it for 55.00 at tractor supply. It did everything I need it to do. Until I tried to push it past its limits. But after 10 years I had no complaint. I did have to call customer service once they were great.George
I bought this for simply pulling my toro zero Turn into the bed of my truck. It works great. This winch is not deigned to pull your mud truck out of a hole. It's designed for light weight jobs. When pulling with it you have to help guide the cable so it does not jump the sides. All in all its a great product. Do Not expect this thing to do what a 300 dollar Warren will do but I love it. works great, right up until it starts to actually work. Had to load a car on a tilt deck trailer, was already facing downhill and my tilt trailer is low to the ground but the winch barely got the front end up on it then continually shut down after moving just a couple inches. You have to wait for it to click and reset to go again, took about an hour to get it loaded, definitely quicker to use a hand come-along or bring a couple extra people but I didn't bring anything but the trailer and the Reese winch.philip

I used this winch one year..the next year the gears teeth were broken. I replaced them and on the first try the winch stopped working. My boat has a weight of 5500 lbs. and max load is supposed to be 11,500 lbs. I even used a double line. I would not recommend unless you have a smaller boatMVjwr

There are two major design flaws I found while installing this winch. #1 the end cap that covers the motor cannot be “clocked” or rotated. This created a big problem because of where the lugs are for the positive and negative power cables. #2 the wiring harness for the rocker switch and plug in “wired” remote is manufactured in one piece with a plastic Y the splits off to the rocker and wired remote. The remote end has a plug that is designed to go through a 1” hole and fastened to the vehicle. The problem is the plastic Y is much larger than 1” so it is impossible to mount the plug to the vehicle without cutting the factory made Y harness. This harness contains 3 wires that I had to reattach using a 3 wire super seal plug that I purchased separately. I mounted this winch on a 2022 Kawasaki Teryx 4 side x side. In 2017 I mounted the same winch on a 2017 Teryx 4 and the harness was not a problem and the end cap could be clocked. Not sure why they changed because it is a really great winch otherwise.Rich
Now that I have to bring the baby along, the quad riding days are few and far between.. I used to be able to pull my quad out by hand, but that's not going to happen with a 1600lb utv. That's where the winch purchase came in. I bought the HF mounting plate to put this in my Teryx but it didn't line up. I'd have to make some modifications to go that route. Instead, I used what I saved on buying this winch on a KFI mount plate and that went more smoothly. The winch is nice with a toggle and wired remote. Wireless would be nice but it's extra $$. Overall a great value and should save my back and possibly my marriage next time I inevitably get stuck!techgeek
I wanted to mount the winch on a trailer and most people use an ammo box for the controls. There is a nifty looking black plug to plug in a remote hand control that looks like an easy install but you are wrong. It looks like a simple 7/8 inch hole and two screws and that connector SHOULD mount right in. Not so fast, the protective cover is behind the plug and if inserted into any mounting hole from behind you will have less pin contact and no protective cover. Mount it on the outside you say: but 15 inches after that connector is a HARD plastic “Y” hardwired in. If you want to mount it on the outside then you have to cut a hole large enough to slide the “Y” through. That hole is about 3/8 wide by 2 inches long and it MUST connect to that 7/8 hole for the plug. Without cutting wires, that is your only choice. If you choose to use the small handle bar mounted control, this won’t be a problem. I found no videos that addressed that problem. I mounted that plug low on the ammo box and cut the large slot on the under side of the ammo box. This way it’s not so noticeable.Ray
