This was my first time using an epilator and I see the appeal. The faster speed worked better for my legs. It was indeed painful, but the second time I went back to do it a second time and it hurt a little less, and every time after that much less so. I guess it's similar to doing your eyebrows. My lower legs it did a great job of removing all the hair — but my thighs it was less effective as the hair is much finer. The hair itself isn't that noticeable anyway because of how fine it is so that it missed some isn't a problem for me. Armpits are very painful to do. Bikini line not too bad but some areas hurt more than others. It's easy to hold and is relatively fast to do and ends up with a nice smooth finish that lasts much longer than shaving. This is my first experience with an epilator. It’s small and compact, easy to hold and grip while using and the instructions are easy to understand. I was nervous using it for the first time. It does take some getting used too and there is some minor discomfort. So far I’ve only used it on my legs, but I’m pleased with the results. This is one of the biggest failures I purchased. After checking so many reviews, I decided to buy this epilator, not from Amazon, but from a different website. BUT I had to come here and share my thoughts. I’ve been epilating my body for 15 years, so I guess I’m “educated” enough to share my experience.
1. The 3 speeds are USELESS. It doesn’t pull out from the root, it SHAVES!! That defeats the purpose of an epilator.
2. The large head does nothing. I go over the same area again and again and my hair is still there!
3. Doesn’t catch the small hair – just the longer one (again, useless!)
4. The adjustable head hurts your skin – it “catches” your skin from time to time while using it. It HURTS and leaves MARKS on your skin.
5. The battery life is too short. If you’re really “hairy”, one charge won’t do it.
6. I’ve never had ingrown hair from my previous epilators, well I have them now from this one.
Do NOT BUY THIS useless device. I guarantee it’s a man that designed this device, cause no woman would approve such junk.Christine S

This is a easy to set up and use. There are two speed settings and the product is rechargeable via a shaver socket. I am so pleased that the epilator is easy to handle both in dry and wet environments. I preferred using it in the shower as I felt I got better results. The more you use the epilator the better the results especially for first time users. Over time I needed to use it less and less. I am now a week in and do not have remove hair everyday like I used too. Braun Silk epil 5 is an epilator that I wish I had when I have started to use epilators for a first time. I have used a few epilators so far, unfortunately my hair grows quickly and are quite strong which cause a range of challenges, add to this combo sensitive skin and straightforward act of epilation is not straightforward anymore. As a regular user of disposable shavers, I was very excited to try this due to it being used as a wet and dry epilator. After almost 45 years of shaving my legs, I finally decided to purchase the Braun epilady shaver. My Sister has been using this product for 25 plus years and swears by it. My first experience with it was a bit ouchy But after the first initial shaving, each time gets better and better. I did not have to shave again for over a week after the first time. The second time (less painful) and minimal hair growth was visible. Im not very hairy so I now only have to use the Braun shaver about every two weeks. I was skeptical that this product would work since I tried another product that was shaped like a tube of lipstick, but was no more than a cutsie electric shaver. This product turns out to be awesome. I didn't experience the pain it said I might and my skin didn't get irritated or swollen. My skin feels soft and hair free! It states it may take a few times for the hair to completely be removed, but I like the way my skin feels as opposed to waxing. I'm still on the fence about this product. It does what it's supposed to do, but there's a catch. Some hairs seem to break off instead of pulling out at the root. I read some reviews that said it's not a real epilator, and I think that might be why some people feel that way. If hairs break, you're going to feel some stubble. I discovered that the slower I go, the less that happens. I can't seem to use this as quickly as I can shave. If I use the tool that quickly, I get lots of breakage. On the upside, the results last a long time when the hairs do pull out at the root. It's the same as with waxing — if it's pulled out, it's going to grow back pretty slowly. As for discomfort, it's kind of painful, but nothing like waxing for me. There's zero skin pulling. All I feel are what seem like lots of tiny little stings where the epilator grips the hairs and pulls them out. Waxing is faster, but for me, it hurts a lot more than this. I think it takes some patience and some trial and error. If you're like me, you're not going to get perfect results the first time. Find your pace, work slowly, and use the tool in more than one direction. Hairs grow in different directions, so moving the tool in different directions seems to work a lot better. I also need to clean out the tool frequently. If I don't, it's not as effective. As for ingrown hairs, I have experienced a few. But again, nothing like with waxing. For me, if there is an ingrown hair, it's barely beneath the surface of the skin. If I scratch it lightly with my nail or use a dry brush before I shower, it's resolved. I love the Braun Silk-epil Beauty Set. It's got just what I need in one convenient package. First the beauty brush. It comes with 4 different heads, one for exfoliating, one to cleanse, one for sensitive skin and one to blend. I've used all 4 heads and they really work. I've used beauty brushes in the past, but this one is much higher quality because the bristles are much softer, don't irritate the skin and are longer lasting. I especially like the 2 modes that can be used, vibrate or rotate to ensure all parts of the face are taken care of. Since it's waterproof I don't have to worry about taking it into the shower. It takes batteries so no forgetting about recharging. The one thing I wish it included is a silicone brush head. I find that they last longer than the normal bristles so it would have been nice to include. I also really like the epilator/shaver. The epilator comes with 2 attachments, one that massages while it epilates and one that is faster, but can hurt the first few times. I've been using the epilator on my legs and after a couple of times, it doesn't hurt as much. I've also noticed less hair growth and longer time intervals between hair removals. As with all epilators, it does hurt a bit while removing hair, but using a lotion right after helps with the sting. The shaver/trimmer is a neat feature in this beauty set. The trimmer is great for areas on the face or bikini line since it's not as abrasive. The shaver also gets a pretty close shave so it's ideal for that bikini line. This is rechargeable so it's convenient and you can use the epilator in the shower. However, the trimmer/shaver cannot be used in the shower, which would have been nice if it was both. That being said, it does not detract from the versatility or convenience of the product. The epilator works ok. Was really annoyed when I wanted to use it, the battery was totally flat. I always recharge after use so it’s ready for next time. Took ages to recharge so I could not use until the next day. The face brush is just average as well. Not much power. Very expensive double product for average performance.
AMAZING! Being on chemotherapy I have to be very careful about the hair removal products I use due to sensitive and dry skin. Waxing and shaving are out of the question which is why I went for the Epilator. My relief when I first used this product was immense! It was so easy to set up and painless on my legs, underarms and even my bikini line. Wowee this product is a winner. Plus you get the funky looking face brush which I now use in my regular skin care routine. Highly recommend.

I started with my armpits, about 2mm long hair at the time, not super-thick, but also not the delicate tiny hairs that grow on most of my legs. (We'll get to them) despite the uneven surface epilady performed admirably. It was a bit painful, so we took it in stages but in the end, hair gone, beautiful.Next I did my ankles which weirdly have darker, coarser hair that the rest of my legs but not alot of it. Slightly longer, maybe 5mm. Epilady worked well but those hairs tend to lie flay on my leg so I did have to encourage a few of them to stand up, which was annoying.Third was other places, coarser hair, same 2mm length. Ouch. Worked well, enough said.Finslly, the rest of the legs, this is where I ran into trouble. These hairs are very fine and light. The epilady gripped them without difficulty, but instead of pulling them out they just broke off where she had grabbed them. So, I wound up with teeny little hairs still.Honestly, that's fine in my case, they're basically invisible, but if you have really fine, but also dark hair? For the price, it’s a great tool. Way better than shaving, because the results last for at least a week (at least for someone like me who is very hairy). However, it does require you to take sit down, take your time, and work through it, so sometimes I get impatient and lazy and don’t use it consistently. Better than shaving!!! This is a multi tweezer function type of shaver. Shavings causes faster regrowth, razor burns and irritation. This epilator tweezed the hair faster than by hand and doesn’t cause irritations. Quick and easy. I use this for my armpits so yeah I let it grow out just so I can use this. I was looking forward to using this and had high hopes. I was a bit let down. I started out with my legs. I had allowed my hair to get long enough to ensure there was something to grip. After several passes on my leg, there was still a lot of hair left. I gave up and decided to do my underarms. I kept going over it again and again until my skin started to get slightly irritated and I stopped. Again, it only removed some of the hair, the rest I ended up shaving off because waxing would have irritated my skin even more. As for the pain, waxing is a quick pain, using this was a slowed down version of that. On the plus side, it I were going to tweeze my legs, this would definitely go a lot faster. I'm going to give it a another shot once I allow my hair to grow out again. Maybe it's user error since this was my first time trying one. If the results are the same, then it's not worth it if I have to use 2 hair removal methods in the end.Jen B
i was excited to try this because i hate shaving so much and am always looking for the next best thing. i tried the Total Body Epilator and was so disappointed. first of all, it hurts. all this machine does is get your hairs sucked up into a whirling metal contraption and rips them out. not a pleasant feeling at all. i used it on my legs so i couldn't IMAGE what it would feel like on my more sensitive areas like my armpits. not only that, but the thing barely pulls any hair out. all that tugging for little to no reward. i passed over a strip of hair multiple times, fast and slow, at different angles, and it still left behind so much hair. the hair on my legs is fine and very blonde so i tried it on my boyfriend who has dark, thick hair and same thing. it barely removed anything. couldn't even tell a difference. it's so much easier, faster, and pain free to just shave.daniibear
This was my first time using an epilator so I didn't know what to expect. It took several tries before I could get it to work properly. The instructions that come with it aren't very clear. You need to hover the device over your skin rather than rolling it along. I haven't waited 2 weeks to see if it truly lasts that long but here's what I've experienced so far. The process takes A LONG time. Probably just as long as it would take to wax. I spent 20 minutes with this device and only finished 1/4 of one shin. I don't see hair, but my legs aren't smooth. Not prickly, but not smooth. If you don't like how wax feels, you don't know how to wax, or want something that is portable, this might be a good option. It could also be a great option if you have a spray tan and don't want to shave off or wax off the tan. Overall I would rate this a 4/5. It could be a great option for some people. Not sure it was the best option for me. I will be interested to see what the hair looks like when it comes back and how long it takes!jaimbalaya

So this handy little took intimidates me, just a bit. I've never used an electric razor much less and epilator. I'm glad I tried it out! I did not know what to expect, but I feel that – overall – it did a decent job. I don't think this is a completely pain-free experience, however. You'll feel it but how MUCH you feel it is probably personal. For me, it is tolerable and I will admit the whole time I had the urge to just..grab a razor. The second time I used it, it did not hurt quite as much. So I do think it takes some getting used to. Not to mention the big payoff is that the hair removal is longer lasting than shaving! I was so excited when I got my RemingtonProducts – Smooth & Silky Essential Epilator. I really wanted to love the simple safer way to remove leg hair without having to shave. I have thick coarse hair, my leg hair is a stubble by the next day after shaving. As soon as I turned the Smooth & Silky Essential Epilator I could see & feel it was powerful, a little loud which made me jump a little. I pull my skin tight, put the Epilator to my leg & it wasn’t for me. Not my coarse leg hairs. My daughter is 15 with fine softer leg hair & she also tried it. I watched her do it basically pain free. Okay so I have several opinions on this epilator. I will specify areas and results. On my legs, this works quite well when used correctly. You absolutely MUST tighten skin or pull taught. One because it helps expose the hair better and two because if you don’t it will squeeze skin and it hurts if not used correctly. When used on my legs it does a great job and virtually painless but on some parts I have to go over several times until it grabs the hair and if they’re super short especially have to go over again. My underarms, it is painful. I’ll stick to shaving my underarms. On bikini area it’s ok. Also quite painful so in my opinion this is great for legs but I will only use on my legs. Nowhere else. I love that I don’t have to shave my legs all the time because it takes the hair from root and keeps from growing for awhile! That alone makes it worth having! It also comes with a brush to clean the epilator which is great!Bobbip33

I've own this product for only 1 1/2 weeks but so far I'm happy with my purchase. It's very powerful. I like the option of having 2 speeds and different attachments. I used the precision cap on my face (chin and upper lip) with great results. When using it on my face it was fast and less painful than other epilators I've used. I won't recommend it for eyebrows because even using the precision cap it was too difficult to shape brows using this product. If you're looking for an eyebrow epilator I would recommend using Braun FaceSpa. When I used it on my legs for the first time I won't lie, it was painful. It definitely takes longer than shaving but results last longer. I don't think it will be 6 weeks for me. Maybe I get 1 week and that will be good for me since I usually shave every other day.DPT
This epilator stopped working after a couple of months. Same as the previous low star reviews, stopped charging. I’m not sure if it’s the cord or the actual device for the defect. After using for a few days, the rotating head would start to pull away from the motor connection during use which results in a horrible sound as the motor stops catching the rotating bit. This could be resolved by holding the head down with a finger while operating the unit, but that makes it harder to operate. Not long after that, the device started to no longer turn off correctly. In the "off" mode it starts and stops in 2 second intervals until it is plugged in for charging. I suspect water got into the circuitry and salts are causing a short on it's logic parts. The device is near useless in about 8 days. I expected better of Remington. Avoid.BBB Customer

I tried the bikini razor first because I was still so nervous and traumatized from my previous attempts. I'm shocked at how close a shave it achieved! No cuts, super soft finish, and super easy to use. It was such a success that I felt a little more confident in trying the epilator. I used the slower of the two speeds and thought maybe I wasn't using it right because I wasn't feeling anything at all. But after checking out the little collection tray; was shocked how much hair was in there! The secret? The hair needs to be about 3-5 days post shave. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The epilator honestly scared me when I first unboxed it. So many attachments and so many tweezers. I would recommend exfoliating in a hot shower with a body scrub before using the epilator so your pores are open. Think of it as TWEEZING your leg hairs one by one, because it's the same as tweezing your eyebrow hairs, one by one, just much faster. And still painful. And of course there was a bit of pain as this was my first time using an epilator and you have to learn how tight to pull your skin on your legs. I would also recommend using the wet attachment in the bathtub before moving to any other attachments as those are for more advanced people. I used the bikini line trimmer for my mustache, I don't have a bad one, just very light hairs, but I have tan skin and I'm very self conscious about it. The trimmer took care of the hair SO fast, literally only took two minutes. Overall, it gave me the outcome I wanted. Not having to shave my legs as often as I usually do.Rae B

I bought a $10 bikini trimmer at a bargain store about a decade ago. It became my absolute favorite HG trimmer that never failed me. I could literally have my whole area done in 5 minutes, and felt smooth as a baby's bum. No pain or dealing with the horrible after-shaving itchies/ingrowns. Good times. It finally died and since then, I've bought countless trimmers from cheap to expensive hoping to find one that matched up to that cheap trimmer but had no luck. I had such a bad experience with one that it nearly turned me off to these trimmers. It nicked and pulled hairs/skin and I became so scared to use it I just went to waxing which is not fun and a monthly expense I didn't want to afford. Finally took a chance on this one despite the mediocre reviews and I'm SO GLAD. this is it! If you're looking for something ten times better than shaving (no itching, ingrown hairs, etc) and something that is the next best thing to the smoothness of waxing, this is it. It's completely painless, you can apply a lot of pressure to really get the hairs at the base and it will never pull hair or nick skin. You can get into the hard-to-reach areas with ease. This was my first time using an epilator and I see the appeal. The faster speed worked better for my legs. It was indeed painful, but the second time I went back to do it a second time and it hurt a little less, and every time after that much less so. I guess it's similar to doing your eyebrows. My lower legs it did a great job of removing all the hair — but my thighs it was less effective as the hair is much finer. The hair itself isn't that noticeable anyway because of how fine it is so that it missed some isn't a problem for me. Armpits are very painful to do. Bikini line not too bad but some areas hurt more than others. It's easy to hold and is relatively fast to do and ends up with a nice smooth finish that lasts much longer than shaving. Do it on Friday and you're good for the weekend and a few days into the week.LDeimos
This is my first experience with an epilator. It’s small and compact, easy to hold and grip while using and the instructions are easy to understand. I was nervous using it for the first time. It does take some getting used too and there is some minor discomfort. So far I’ve only used it on my legs, but I’m pleased with the results. It does work, and seems to keep my legs free of hair for a longer period of time than shaving. I have experienced a little bit of irritation, but that’s usually gone by the next day.
