Best Everyday Shampoo For Balayage Hair (2024 Update)

I ordered this product looking for something to keep my magenta hair fresh and vibrant. I had previously been using Nexxus and it was working OK but I had heard good things about the Paul Mitchell brand. I used this product one time and more pink washed out of my hair in one wash than in five washes with my other shampoo. I looked on the bottle only to discover this shampoo is not sulfate free. How can a shampoo claim to be "color protect" and yet contain sulfates? A low-quality product, that's how. If you have vivid hair, or paid any amount of money to have your hair professionally done, this is not the product for you.AAWhite

Really used to be a Paul Mitchell girl, I haven't used their products in 5ever but I was looking for a more high end shampoo/conditioner because I'm having trouble finding nice products that are giving me a good end result. Used to do their tea tree/mint, but decided to try this one and the reviews were great! Got a sample pack and it was nice, but not enough product for my long hair, so I got the full sizes. Um nope. I got the combo pack and really do not like them. The first hour or so my hair looks nice but it gets greasy/flaky now faster than ever, and I've almost NEVER had issues with flakes or greasy hair in my life. After wanting to switch to a different color care shampoo and conditioner, I went with this system. It made my hair feel and smell amazing. So soft. But my color was gone within 3 weeks. I’ve been around the block when it comes to purple shampoos and this is one of the best ones I have tried, if not the best. I think one of the most annoying things about purple shampoos is how drying they can be on the hair but after using this my hair actually felt more hydrated. The toning on my hair was pretty significant as well, even without having my hair done in 4 months. When using purple shampoo I like to let it sit on my hair for a few minutes in the shower before rinsing off. I’ll admit I didn’t have high hopes for this but after using it it will definitely be a new staple in my routine! If you’re on the fence about trying this because you feel like you’ve tried all the purple shampoos on the market like I have, just try this one- trust me you won’t regret it!brittbabee

I received this product for free from Pinch Me for my honest review. I absolutely love the Verb Purple Shampoo. It definitely lives up to its claim of Cleanse, Tone & Brighten. My highlighted hair has grown out quite a bit. I need to get my roots down. This shampoo really did brighten & tone my blonde & Grey hair. I was shocked because my hair has grown out so much. Once I lathered, my hair felt sneaky clean when I rinsed. Not gonna lie, I was a little worried it had dried out my hair but not at all dry. My hair was brighter, full, & manageable. I received Verb Purple Shampoo as a sample from PinchMe and I can honestly say that this is hands down probably my favorite sample I've received this far. I ALWAYS wash my hair once a week, but at times twice a week and condition it every day. However, since using Verb Purple Shampoo I have only been washing once a week and the biggest shocker is I haven't had to condition my hair at all. Which is a HUGE shock to me because I have long, thick and curly hair that requires some attention and upkeep. My hair is naturally kinky/coily and of medium to average thickness. The ends are color treated. I use oils 1-2 times a week. I use gels, styling creams and pomades very infrequently. I use very moisturizing shampoos & conditioners and treatments most wash days. I use this to gently clarify my scalp with out stripping my hair. I use it once every several weeks along with the 50:50 conditioner from the same line. They are effective. I have used it about 2-3 times and still have at least half the sample-size bottle left. I apply the shampoo directly to my scalp and focus there and allow the suds to work their way down the hair strands. I do a thorough job the first go round and do not repeat. This shampoo has a very subtle scent of citrus that does not linger. It's not cloying nor highly fragrant and perfumey.iHerb Customer

I previously ordered the trial size and was so happy with it that I went for the regular size. I was super disappointed as this is now a different product with other ingredients. The trial size surfactants used to be Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, and Sodium Lauryl Glucose Carboxylate (which is Plantapon SF, a common pre-mix of surfactants) plus Decyl Glucoside and Cocamidopropyl Betaine for the trial size. The regular sized version I was sent has Sodium Coco-Sulfate listed as first surfactant (highest percentage) which gives me buildup and itchiness so I know to avoid it, followed by Cocamidopropyl Betaine. Like the product. Went to buy it based on a 30% off on one item coupon. The item was $33, so with the discount, slightly under $25. Can purchase 2 of them for $25 on Amazon. CVS would be easy to recommend if they stopped playing these stupid games with prices. But even without that, the service is just not good. It's not like it use to be. Having coloured my hair for many years I am very conscious of the need to try and keep it in good condition and avoid colour fading so was very eager to try Nexxus Color Assure Shampoo. Nexxus is not a brand I am familiar with so was keen to see the results. As soon as I poured the shampoo into my hand I could feel the quality of this beautifully rich shampoo and the smell was absolutely divine. The shampoo lathered up easily into my hair with just a small amount of the product. It was easy to rinse out and my hair felt thick and full once it had been washed. Once my hair had been dried I could instantly see how shiny and well nourished my hair looked and felt and the colour of my hair has stayed more vibrant without any fading over the past couple of weeks. I wash my hair every day and this shampoo has kept it in perfect condition. I regularly smelt the shampoo during the day which was lovely and I have had several people complimenting me on how shiny and healthy my hair looks. I've used this product for years, but they seem to have changed the formulation. I purchased two 1L bottles sometime ago. I just ran out of the old formula and opened the new bottle, and (as many have said) it does not clean. It leaves a waxy/greasy residue on my hair no matter how much I rinse, regardless of whether or not I follow with conditioner. I tried emailing the company a month ago, but have heard no reply.PJ

I couldn’t figure out why my hair was falling out. I stopped using this shampoo out of pure laziness for 2 weeks, when I started using it again I then noticed it’s this shampoo causing my hair loss. It literally comes out in chunks immediately after and keeps coming out in chunks for days. I have super dark brunette hair it's almost black! So I get an ashy blonde balayage to compliment my hair. Of course after 6 weeks out of the salon is turns brassy, I bought this hoping it would make my hair look balanced again since it says it can also be used on brunette hair to combat brassy unbalanced hair. OMG did it do the trick. I followed the directions and lathered twice, I didn't use conditioner afterwards but after towel drying my hair used my leave-in conditioner and then blow dried it. We've all seen people walking around with that orangey hair with white roots after bleaching their hair. It's not exactly the best look for anybody. But be warned, this product works FAST. Once your hair is the desired shade and free of brassiness, this shampoo with start to tint your hair purple if left on for more than a minute or so. But nothing works better to neutralize any orange or brassiness out of your hair. This conditioner is 10/10. I have tried “The One� conditioner and have also loved that one as well, but this one has different benefits. For one, it’s super light and not as thick as some conditioners, the slip is great. My hair used to look so dull if I didn’t wash it and now it looks shinier and feels super soft. My hair doesn’t feel heavy. The no fragrance makes a huge difference because I don’t have those extra unnecessary chemicals drying out my hair. One con for this is the bottle size. I should’ve bought a bigger bottle because of my thick hair I have to use a lot of product. The small bottle featured in the photo was between $10 and $13 and lasted me about 2 weeks. I am not high maintenance at all when it comes to hair care. I prioritize my preference to skincare etc. After running out of shampoo I decided to try this one since I love the Kristin Ess texturizing spray. Biggest mistake! This formula literally caused my head and scalp to become insanely itchy and when you scratch, since the formula is so drying, your scalp gets flaky. It’s not dandruff, but looks like it because of all the flakes. I’m so disappointed with this product. I’m literally running to target tomorrow to find something else because I can’t possibly bear another wash. It’s that drying. Not to mention my hair looks way drier than usual and dull. I used this shampoo only once, and I could feel it making my hair a strange brittle texture as I washed it. I can generally wash my hair and not use conditioner, except for the first week after I get highlights. I could not even run my hands through my hair after washing. Needed to use a conditioner, and then still had trouble getting a brush through it. The bottom 2 inches of my hair remain unmaneageable since I used this product. Now I am forced to use conditioner just to brush through my hair after washing, even though I am using my previous shampoo. Very unhappy that it basically wrecked my hair. My husband, who has virgin hair, has no problem with the shampoo, but does use conditioner. The only reason I even tried this was because there is no scent. That is the only plus. I received a sample of this which I kept in a drawer, until I had a couple of nights away and these samples came in handy. The downside is that I fell in love. I was recommended this shampoo after I got my hair dyed and I wish I never bought it. At first I noticed that when it to washing my hair it became awfully tangled. I would walk out the shower with my head looking like a birds nest. The shampoo didn’t bother me as I could easy brush my hair out. It was until I began to notice white flakes on my head. All of a sudden I had dandruff. I couldn’t leave the house without worrying about someone noticing the dandruff. I am nearly at the bottom of the bottle, so I am ready to comment. This one is not working for me. It is probably due to the texture of my hair – it is a bit past shoulder length, fine/medium hair. Not super fine, but I think you might get the idea. After I apply soap, and gently wash hair, and rinse out – my hair is a matted mess while in the shower. I have to add conditioner, just to be able to rinse the soap out of my hair properly. The two conditioners that I used, that saved me – are both offered by Vitacost: Andalou Naturals Detangling spray and 2Chic Ultra Sleek Conditioner by Giovanni. I love the Andalou spray, so I will try their shampoo. Giving this 2 stars, as this Shikai shampoo, may be ok for super short hair, or hair needing a 'clarifying' shampoo, to remove heavy sports sweat/dirt, gels & other hair products. When I purchased Shikai Shampoo I had hair that was colored. That was about a year and a half ago. Now it's my natural color but this shampoo is still doing a good cleansing job and leaves my hair manageable. This used to be my favorite conditioner WHEN IT HAD AMLA, for fine wavy hair and a difficult scalp and as a reward for my loyalty and others' they changed the AMLA to borage without announcement. I didn't figure it out by label reading, but by the CHANGE IN WHAT IT DID TO MY HAIR – from lovely, fuss-free hair and calm scalp to cruddy scalp like all the others and nothing but bad hair days. I am told by my stylist that I have fine hair but a lot of it. I was noticing that I was losing what looked like a lot of hair to me in the shower and in my brushes. I tried some different shampoos and conditioners and none seemed better than the others. I was having a particular problem with tangles when my hair was wet. I have very hard water so that is probably part of the issue. My sister has amazing hair, she grows it down to her waist and donates it to a wigs for kids program. She uses this shampoo and conditioner even though she doesn't color her hair so I tried it and it is working great for me. Detangles, my hair looks healthy, and I see less coming out in the shower and brushes. I use the shampoo and conditioner together every other day. On the in-between day I get it wet and just use a little conditioner from around where a low ponytail would be to the ends for detangling. I thought the fragrance was too strong at first but have gotten used to it now. I would still love a fragrance free or more subtle natural fragrance option but it is getting the results I wanted so I plan to keep using it.Lucy

I have tried many shampoos for my bleached blonde hair. This shampoo works amazing on my dry brittle hair. I personally think it works way better than Opalex. This shampoo leaves my hair silky, smooth and doesn't fade my colored hair either. While Opalex made my hair feel like straw hair. I highly recommend this shampoo if you want silky smooth hair. If your a blonde and need a good purple shampoo. I highly recommend Biolage Purple shampoos. It's the best purple shampoo I've ever used and I've used many. My hair has gotten extremely damaged from using OGX products that currently have a class action lawsuit against them for formaldehyde, cancer causing ingredients & instead of moisturizing & repairing it's drying it from the inside out, causing horrible damage you didn't see starting, until you have a ton of broken hair & even HAIR LOSS!! My hair last year was long to my belt loops. We thought was this because of coloring? Stopped coloring it last year, it's been growing out for awhile. Then for my last "trim" it turned into a chop because I've had really long hair over a decade & never has my hair looked or felt like this. Now my hair is right above my shoulders. I was doing my research on products before my haircut knowing after I cut it, I'm never using OGX products again even though I had 2 brand new large bottles. I asked my hairdresser about this brand & this color last (even though I'm growing out my hair I still have my old color treated lighter blonde ends). she said this product/brand is AMAZING & YES for me to try it I told her Ulta had the jumbos on SALE she said I won't regret it. Sorry so long but I have never found such an amazing shampoo & conditioner!! I also got the styling spray to wear my hair naturally Wavy to let it air dry & have less heat on my damaged hair & I'm hooked, 1000% pleased and recommend!! If you are not sure, they have travel size & you can try before you commit. I'm so happy I went with it, went with the jumbos & will continue to buy forever. To preface. I'm a 25 female. Natural light brown hair, bleached low maintenance blonde. Thick wavy frizzy hair that reaches the lower bottom of my back. Prone to split ends and breakage at the bottom of my hair. No extensions. I wanted to add this so people with similar hair types can relate. So to start, I'm so torn on this shampoo… I tried it for 3 weeks and I do like that this shampoo and conditioner cuts down on my overall frizz and made my hair so much smoother and less likely to tangle which is exactly what I was looking for. BUT there is some things about this shampoo I just can't ignore. First off the smell, I just can't get past it. It reminds me of a menthol cigarette. It just smells sooo minty and lingers after washing. Some people may not mind the smell but if my shampoo is going to linger, I'd prefer it to smell like something other than strong mint and almost a tea tree smell. Second, when the conditioner sets for a couple minutes before rinsing out I've noticed that my back and neck where the product has been laying in my hair will get very cold and tingly. Almost like how when you have a breath mint you get the same effect in your mouth but it's on your body this time. This alone made me decide not to repurchase. I like my shower water very warm and I found myself constantly turning the heat up because while the conditioner set I would get extremely cold from the tingly feeling. It can be overwhelming sometimes and linger even after washing the area thoroughly and drying off. I would assume if this was a shampoo and conditioner without the minty smell that I was having an allergic reaction to it but since it has that smell I just really don't know if the tingle is intended or not. And lastly, I've noticed a lot of small breakage at the top of my hair by my scalp. I'm not prone to breakage that high and only notice it after a fresh bleach every once and a while although it is usually very rare for me. I should note that it has been 3 months since my last bleach since I am a low maintenance blonde and I was not using this product during my last bleach. I also take a lot measures to protect my hair that could be the cause of breakage that high. So at this point only thing I've changed is this shampoo and conditioner. I've decided not to finish the rest of the bottle due to concerns about further breakage. This is just my experience. Some people seem to love it but it's a no from me. I hope this helps some people on the fence after reading conflicting reviews. I've switched to Joyco kpac reconstructing shampoo that has also given me the same desirable results so far with a much better smell, no breakage, and most importantly no tingly feeling on by skin.Lexi

I saw the hair loss reviews but if the hair is coming out at the follicle then that is definitely health related not from a shampoo. Shampoo cannot cause hair loss unless maybe a severe reaction to the scalp and there's swelling and for whatever reason the follicle comes out with it but that is highly unlikely. But anyways back to my review lol this is the most hydrating gentle shampoo I've ever used it's perfect! It cleans my hair and makes my scalp feel so refreshed but my hair is detangled and moisturized! And the conditioner is so creamy and moisturizing! The scents for both are so relaxing to me and my hair and scalp are taken care of with this set of shampoo and conditioner. my hair is so soft, shiny and perfectly moisturized. Definitely for medium to thick hair types unless you have finer very porous hair then I think you'd like it. I really like using these products and how my hair feels after using them. I ordered the whole set during the flash sale and when I received the products the shampoo, conditioning spray, and the conditioner weren't closed properly so most of the product was in the bottom of the box. I sent an email about the issue but I received another email for a link that doesn't work to open a ticket. No one has reached out to me and I have been sent the same link twice. My previous order the pumps on the bottles were broken. I just chalked that up to shipping but when the products are sent to you already opened, that's a whole other issue.Marcia W.

This is one of my top five shampoos for people who have a four c hair texture! The smell is amazing. It definitely gives off hints of pomegranate and honey which is the perfect snow combination. It provides a thick rich and full leather without having to use 17 pumps of shampoo. I Projects like that mielle products are parabens and sulfates paraffins and mineral oil all free. I will be the first to say that being that I have for sea hair this is not a detangling product. Moisturizing absolutely. Cleaning your hair it also removes all the impurities. I was a little disappointed when I received my black Friday package from Mielle. I have ordered before and have been pleased but this time it was like everything was thrown in a box and shipped. The box was so beat up its like the products could have came out and almost would have im certain had it been tossed around any more and I know that part wasn't so much their fault but I figured it would have been put into another box to ship to prevent that problem. The products had no confetti at least to soften how its thrown around everything was so greasy i thought for sure a product or 3 were leaking and also nothing was wrapped at least in bubble wrap considering how it was boxed up. Literally just thrown in the box any kind of way. Honestly, the shampoo was wonderful. The smell was amazing and I love how it made my hair feel the first time using it. I’ve used this shampoo a total of 3 times within the past 3 weeks. (I wash my hair once a week and with certain shampoos, my hair won’t get oily or my scalp won’t get itchy for the entire week) but the first use was great! My hair was shiny, light, and smelled so good! My test for shampoos is to put heat to it after washing it. As in flat ironing or curling it to test how fast it’ll get oily. Weird but it actually works to show me if it’s good or not. (My own experiment) and let me tell you, it lasted allllll week. My curls stayed beautiful the whole time. But… the second use was the same. Smelled good and was light weight, but my scalp started to itch a little. And my hair got oily quicker. And I’ve had this issue with other shampoos before. I was given this shampoo and the matching conditioner as a gift and I was very excited because I believed this was supposed to be a great conditioner. At first I believed it worked great! My hair sometimes gets oily and I no longer had oily hair at the end of the day but then I began to lose more hair than usual. Then I began losing HANDFULS of hair at a time. I was losing so much hair I truly believed I would go bald. I finally realized my hair loss was probably due to this shampoo and conditioner not just stress so I stopped using it. I am still experiencing hair loss but slowly my hair is getting back to normal. If you have thin hair I would NOT recommend you use this incase you do experience hair loss because my hair is extremely thick and I lost at least half a head of hair I can't imagine the damage this product could do if you had less hair to start off with! This is the first review I have ever written but I would feel that I am doing a disservice if I didn’t write this. I attached 2 before and 1 after picture. Over a year ago I tried this shampoo for the first time and loved it. So much so that I used an entire bottle! I loved how “clean” it made my scalp feel and loved the scent. For whatever reason at the time, I switch to a different shampoo. That is up until 4 months ago when I moved from a very humid climate to a very dry one and picked this shampoo back up again. I started using Oribe products when I went to a salon that used Oribe and pretty much all the products that I’ve used I have liked. I purchased this particular shampoo because I get highlights, and I wanted to prolong the life of my color gloss. I am a fan of Oribe and have other Oribe shampoos to compare it with, and I sometimes mix it with the Oribe Moisture and Control Shampoo in the green bottle and the Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo in the black and white bottle. I think that this shampoo for color treated hair is best for prolonging color, and I have noticed that my glaze has lasted a bit longer than when using other shampoos. I personally prefer the moisture and hydration from the other two shampoos that I mentioned compared to this shampoo, but I do like the shampoo a lot. I do feel that the Moisture and Control Shampoo does provide a lot of moisture and hydration, I have that masque too and love it. The Oribe Gold Lust is good for damaged hair or when trying to prevent split ends. The shampoo for the blonde hair is also a great shampoo, which a hairstylist used on me for years and I recommended to a family member. I think Oribe products are excellent and I have been pleased with most Oribe products that I purchased. I recently switched to using this shampoo and other Oribe shampoos from the Olaplex shampoo and it is definitely worth the extra money! The products are a little expensive, although they are the best quality of any other beauty products which I have purchased. The products are vegan and cruelty free. The Oribe For Beautiful Color is my favorite hair product line. I have had total strangers compliment the scent while using this line. A little product goes a long way, even for my thick mid-back length hair. I use this and then rotate between the For Beautiful Color mask, conditioner, and glaze, as well as alternating with the Gold Lust line. I will continue buying Oribe even at this price point. Purchased this product expecting to see results. This an 8.5oz product for $50.00. So my expectations are high as price tag. This product did not work for me. I recently got my hair colored I waited 5 days to have my first shampoo and as I was washing my hair it felt extremely dry. As I was massaging my scalp my hair started tangle terribly- this has never happened to me before. So I proceeded to condition with olaplex. Once out of the shower my hair felt super dry which it was very concerning. After I used a mixed of olaplex #6 and #7 to blow-dry and style, my hair looked fine but NOT BETTER from using Olaplex shampoo, Truss professional or Crew. I wanted to give it a second try so 3 days after I washed my hair again. I have natural voluminous curls, same experience at washing and after, my curls looked terrible. The hair still dry as straw. This is the first purple conditioner I have ever tried that is actually hydrating. Purple hair care products are often so stripping and drying (in my past experience). I was pleasantly surprised/amazed at how much I enjoyed this and how gorgeous my hair looked after using it! I received several compliments. It is a fantastic bottle. I love the packaging and the product is easy to use. I followed the instructions and my blonde hair looked much brighter and refreshed! I can’t wait to try more products from this range. I bought this yesterday and washed my hair and it was soft and super shiny. Dampened my hair the next day and blow dryer it and it is fantastic! My color is so vibrant! For those that reviewed and don't see any highlighting results could be because of build up if you use a lot of products. I haven't tried it but maybe do the Sunday shampoo and then the Blonde shampoo. I am multiracial and color my own hair and this has worked wonders. I love this brand anyways. It never fails! I am a big Bumble and Bumble fan so naturally I was very excited to see they now have a purple line for blondes. I’ve tried a ton of purple shampoos over the years and this one is good! It smells good and the smell lingers for a while. It’s also the perfect richness as far as color goes. Lots of purple shampoos aren’t dark enough and therefore don’t do a good job at actually cancelling out the brass. Not this one! I think you get a good amount of product for the price. My only complaint is that it does leave my hair feeling a bit on the dry side which is very typical for a purple shampoo. I see that they also have a conditioner in the purple line that I will be grabbing next to hopefully fix that problem. Since most shampoos and conditioners work best as a system, I’ll bet that help! I have NEVER had issues with shampoo/conditioner up until buying this. I have tried many different cheap shampoo/conditioners, and decided to splurge a little on this product after seeing some hairstylists on social media recommend this brand. Unfortunately I have similar experiences as other low reviews on this product. I have noticed that I am shedding a LOT more hair than normal in the shower. I have also noticed after 1-2 weeks of use that my hair has started to feel greasy and heavy. It almost feels like the product did not get washed out of my hair. At first I thought maybe this was my fault that I didn’t rinse it out well. But last night I made sure to do a thorough job rinsing out my hair, and woke up with my hair the greasiest it’s ever looked after a wash. I’ve never had a product do this to my hair. The only plus is that I love the scent of these products. I hope I will be able to return this.sarah

I’ve finally found the culprit for the damage my hair has been experiencing over the past few months. I first raised an eyebrow when my stylist pointed out dandruff, which I’ve never had before. I attributed this to buildup from dry shampoo, but after reading these reviews I now know that these products have caused the buildup and flakes. I’ve also lost a TON of hair. My hair is usually thick and full of body, but now I have to use tons of dry shampoo and styling tools to get it to look presentable. I use dry shampoo right after I get out of the shower because it looks so greasy. Please do your research before using these…I wish I had! Save yourself the damage and the money!Emily B

I wanted to love this brand and especially this product, but I can't. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks in to using the shampoo and conditioner. My scalp first started getting dry and itchy, which has never been a problem for me. About 3 weeks in, excessive amounts of hair started coming out when I washed or brushed my hair. My hair wasn't falling out in clumps, but it was more than normal, causing me to be concerned about the cause. About 1 month in, there was a lot of dandruff, irritation on my scalp, and parts of my scalp were getting crusty, almost like a had massive dandruff buildup. I want to preface this that I have never had any of these problems with other brands, including other inexpensive brands, high end brands, and custom shampoo. I used other Kristin Ess product including the scalp scrub, detangler, and the scalp every day conditioner. I stoped using these products and stuck with just the shampoo and conditioner to see if my symptoms improved. My symptoms continued to worsen and I realized that it was the shampoo and conditioner causing all of my problems. I even showed my hairdresser and she thought that the brand was good because it claims to be vegan and and lacks bad ingredients. There is something in these products that caused all of my symptoms and is not good at least for my hair type. I would strongly encourage using another brand to avoid dealing with the symptoms I experienced. I am not saying you will have the same problems, but for me, it was awful. I rarely ever review any products but feel the need to review this and share my experience. I purchased this along with the Redken conditioner to match and began using it in the spring of this year. At the same time I was going back to school and had a couple life changes happening. My hair is thin and fine and to my horror I began losing massive amounts of hair in the shower and when brushing my hair. I was mortified! I have never had something like this happen to me before. I thought it had to be the stress of going back to school or the changes I had going on. I did not want to throw away shampoo and conditioner this expensive. Finally in desperation, I purchased my go to shampoo and conditioner and within a week or two the hair loss stopped and was back to the normal amount I typically lose. What a relief! A month to 6 weeks after I stopped using this shampoo and conditioner, I had baby hairs spiking all over my head. While I am happy they're growing back I am so sad I waited so long to stop using this. My hair looks wild now with regrowth poking straight up in the air, I have fairly long hair so I am embarking on a long journey of patience here. I used to love Redken, I took a long break from it to try new products (like a 5 year break) because their formulas switched. I tried this out again recently because my stylist recommended it and within only a weeks worth of washing (I wash my hair every 2-3 days, so 2-3 washes total) I noticed that my hair began "shedding" more than usual. After 2 weeks of washes and changing nearly everything else in my routine to compensate, I realized that it was this shampoo that was making my hair fall out! And before anyone assumes I'm being "dramatic," IT WAS CLUMPS! I am 24 years old, healthy, and take great care of my hair. First off, I have very long and thick colored hair. I bought this thinking it would be a good new shampoo and not fade my color. I was completely wrong, as this shampoo didn't seem to clean my hair at all and only made the build up on my hair worse. I have never struggled with build up on my hair, until I bought this shampoo along with the Redkin All Mega Soft conditioner. It was absolutely terrible, I had so much waxy build up around my hairline that looked like grease, and it would NOT go away no matter how much shampoo I used. Along with that, I felt like this made my color fade more than any hair product I've ever used before, which also had never been a major problem for me in the past. So in short, this shampoo brought about a lot of issues I never had to deal with before and made my hair look awful. I will never buy Redkin hair products again, because both types of shampoo and conditioner I used were awful. I thankfully had a hair appointment soon after this problem started so that my hair was thoroughly cleaned, and after my stylist gave me new recommendations (Pureology and Matrix Total Results btw) I threw the Redkin in the trash. I am also not one to leave reviews, but I would honestly feel bad if I didn't warn someone about to buy this how bad it is. It's a bit pricey but trust me its worth it. I was tired of my hair feeling gross, dry on the ends and oily at the roots. I threw away all my other garbage shampoos and I finally found the shampoo of all shampoos. Def sticking with this one a little lathers up a bunch. I can go 2-3 days without looking like an oily mess. And it makes my hair smell soo good. Def worth the money if youre tired of your hair having build up.emily p.

So, I hesitated about writing this review because I don’t like to complain, and I did love this product when I first purchased it. My hair was soft, smelled great, and I even had people commenting on the health & shine it had. I loved this product so much I stocked up on it.

About a year into using this shampoo and conditioner duo along with the leave in treatment I noticed an unusual amount of hair fall. I thought nothing of it assuming it was my hair screaming at me for the heat/hair dye ect. However, I noticed it more and more and after 6 months of extreme shedding I decided I should look into what was going on. First i started taking supplements (Womens vitamins and biotin) assuming it was my dreadful diet to blame. No change. I put a shower head filter in to filter my shower water. No change. Then I went cold turkey on heat styling, and stopped using hair dye. Nothing seemed to help. I even bought different ‘it’s a 10’ products to try to “strengthen” my hair. I attempted to not wash my hair but once a week… still incredible amounts of fall out. I was lost. Finally I changed shampoo. I started noticing in the shower less and less fall out, soon brushing my hair produced less wads of hair to clean from my brush. It seems I have found the culprit. I have spent 6 months trying to identify what I was doing wrong, and all signs point to “it’s a 10”.

I’m posting this not out of anger, or spite, but because everywhere I looked I saw “how great” this product is …. I even asked my hair dresser what she recommended for hair fall and she asked what I use and I told her “it’s a 10” and she raves about how great the product is.

my hair is incredibly thin and I have little baby regrowth. I don’t want someone else to go through what I did and change shampoo when it’s too late. So if u r using it’s a 10 and noticing a lot of fall out… maybe it just doesn’t work for us?

I really like this shampoo and conditioner. It's a shame so many people left 1 star reviews because it just didn't work for them. It would be different if there was something wrong with customer service or the product itself. However, with skin care, nail care, and hair care so much of whether or not it'll work for you is left biology and body chemistry and you have to try different products to find the one that works with yours. So it's really unfair to leave negative reviews on products that don't match up with your unique chemistry.wifeofsauron

Overall, I am very happy with the Supernova Blonde Toning shampoo, however, I am not fully blonde and only have partial-saturation balayage highlights. The product leaves my hair feeling clean but not overly stripped like many shampoos out there. I am confident that you could use this daily with no issues, however, I personally use two dime-sized amounts once a week (per Brad's instruction on his YouTube). Instructions for use are noticeably absent from the back of the bottle, which I would like to see on all XMONDO products in the future just so I know I'm doing the right thing, but for now, Brad's separate instructions for how to use any shampoo work just fine. The scent, as with all XMONDO products, was amazing and lingered on my hair just enough to cover up the natural oil smell of your hair, but the scent wasn't overly powerful at all, and I think anyone who is particularly sensitive to fragrance will be just fine. The product is a little watery compared to most shampoos I have used, and I would like to see future versions be a little thicker as I notice I tend to lose a bit to my shower floor since it is runny. This is a minor concern, and it's not like the shampoo is the consistency of water or anything, it could just stand to be a little thicker. Next: the clear absence of surfactants (for reference, these are the chemical compounds that make a product lather in your hair, for example, shampoos usually have quite a bit of these in them, and conditioners have none or almost none.) Brad has stated before that he uses surfactants in his shampoos but not as much as other companies since they are unnecessary to the function of the product. I believe this is true for every shampoo from XMONDO except for this one. In general, you really only need to shampoo your scalp and roots, and the rest of your hair will get washed as you rinse out the shampoo. However, since this is a color-care product, even distribution throughout the scalp, mids, and ends is necessary so you can cool-tone all of your hair instead of just your scalp. As a result, I wish this shampoo had enough surfactants so that I could successfully lather all of my hair with the product in much less time than it currently takes. My final note is on the packaging. This (to my knowledge) is the only XMONDO shampoo that comes in a pump bottle (like lotion) rather than a squeeze bottle (like conditioner). I love the idea of a pump bottle, it makes it so much easier to dispense the product, however, this is clearly a low-quality pump. Rather than be completely sealed, the pump is open to the inside of the bottle, which allows product to slowly come out over time onto the pump, it won't leak everywhere though, and I haven't lost any product as a result, it's more of an aesthetics and neatness thing. If you travel with this shampoo or have to put it in a bag, definitely put it in a Ziploc bag too. You cant twist the pump to turn it off like on most pump bottles, which isn't super necessary but I would like to see nicer pumps on the packaging next time around. I found this out after having some of the product leak in my suitcase, but I can't really complain about having my luggage smell like XMONDO as the scent is amazing. Regarding the products ability to tone hair: It does amazing things for my hair. Keep in mind I have balayage highlights and not fully blonde hair, but for me at least, it has extended the life of my color far beyond how long I thought it would last, and has prevented it from becoming brassy for months now. Even though I wrote a harsh review, it's only because XMONDO produces great products at a high price point, so I have high standards. For those of you not here for a long review… I'll just say that this product will give you everything that you want and more. My hair literally felt smoother, softer, and more healthy than it ever has after using this product, and that's not even what it's for! It was like getting a conditioner mask put on your head while you're shampooing and the results were amazing! My hair looks more vibrant than it has in I don't know how long. For the longer story goers: I didn't know anything about Brad until this year when I found him on Snapchat, since then I have watched every single one of his videos on YouTube and anywhere else I can find him for tips, tricks, and laughs. This is the first XMONDO product I have ever tried, and I am obsessed with it. Honestly I'm contemplating switching all of my products over to this line at this point because I'm so amazed at the results that I got. They are ok… I do love the smell though, so kudos on that! I got them right after being at the salon, so not sure how well they will perform after I start to "yellow". I have used them twice since I have gotten them. Two things I have noticed. First is getting the pump to work smoothly. It is very difficult to pump them, and then they take a long time to "reload" to get the next pump, if that is what you want to call it LOL! I also expected them to work together to condition better. My hair feels very dry and like straw after using them. Yes I am bleach blond, but my hair is pretty healthy and I do not bleach at home. My hair feels softer when I used my normal conditioner (I use the same conditioner no matter which of my other purple shampoos I currently rotate and use because it works very well with my hair). All in all for the price, and for being Brad Mondo (LOVE), I was really expecting more, so I'm sad. I doubt I will be ordering it again once I use it all, unless I can see it take out the yellow super well when I do yellow between appointments to the salon.On another note, I was super excited to see it came with stickers on other reviews! Low and behold, mine did not come with stickers. Very sad. I have been using the Goldwell Dual senses shampoo and conditioner for blonde/highlighted hair for less than a month. However, on the first use (this was in the salon) my hair looked instantly better. It was smooth, no build up, shiny, soft and manageable. Prior to this my hair looked unclean, had serious build up, and was difficult to manage. Another plus is that you only need to use a very small amount. A little goes a long way, which is not the case with cheaper store products. This product gave me back sleek, long beautiful hair. I definitely recommend giving it a try. This shampoo is the prettiest colour and has the most loveliest scent. It's a nice product to use too. I imagine that for natural blondes or those with less dominant hair, it would do a wonderful job of removing brassy and yellow tones. I like the rest of their line. Since I occasionally bleach and dye my hair.I was looking into something to use for that too. The purple shampoo smells good just like the rest of the line. Using this on my hair after using chemicals I can tell it's pretty gentle and seems to strengthen it a bit. Usually my hair fades pretty quickly, esp from the shampoo but this has helped me maintain my color. Paired with the conditioner, this really works well.Sab

I use this shampoo in conjunction with the Colorharmony conditioner to keep my silver hair sparkling. Together they remove any yellow undertones that I have in my hair. I also love the way my hair feels after using this shampoo. I had tried other purple shampoos and they were very drying to my hair. This shampoo actually leaves my hair feeling conditioned and very soft. I'd recommend this product to anyone wanting to remove a yellow tint from their hair.Pam15042

No parabens, no sulfates, vegan. I have silver hair and this is the 3rd brand of purple shampoo I have tried. Lathers well, is REALLY dark purple, cleans and rinses well. I can't recall what it smells like, which is a good thing. The pump bottle is a plus too! This may be coincidental, but I got 3 complements on my hair the week I started using it.
