This cleanser is really strange. I received it as my birthday gift. It’s very thick and once you mix it with water and apply it and rinse it off, it leaves some kind of “film” on your skin. I don’t wear makeup so the only thing this product had to go though was my daily moisturizer (no other serums or anything). My face did not feel clean even after massaging the product thoroughly for two minutes or so. HOWEVER THE FRAGRANCE IN THIS PRODUCT IS HORRIBLE. I don’t understand why there has to be a fragrance added to skin care (hello irritation!) in the first place and let alone a product that washes off your face. The smell is very synthetic/artificial and very strong. HOW IS THIS PRODUCT LABELED “CLEAN AT SEPHORA” when the ingredients are clearly NOT CLEAN ?!MartiniC
Generally speaking I love tatcha products. The cleansing oil and the water cream are part of my regular line up. I have tried this product twice, when it came as part of a set, and both times after a week of use I ended up with dry, flaky skin that resolved after I stopped using it. My skin is typically normal-to-dry but I also live in a very humid climate, so I wouldn’t say dry skin is a major problem for me, but with this product it was noticeable. I couldn’t wear any face makeup for a week or two because it would highlight the flakey spots. It has a lovely smell, and it feels nice, and the light texture seems to vanish when it’s rubbed in (I’m not sure if it provides any exfoliating at all, it’s so fine and disappears so quickly), so two stars for “cosmetic elegance,” but ultimately it is not for me. I really can’t understand how this would be called “hydrating” or described as not “stripping” the skin because neither of those were true for me.sarahs310
This wash feels extraordinary and you really have to compliment tatcha for the formulation here if nothing else. There is a mild "grit" to the cleanser when it first comes out of the tube which immediately dissolves as you rub your hands together and spread it over your face. It never creates a harsh lather, but rather cleans your skin almost like an balm or an oil, easily removing dirt and oil from your pores. It feels very rich never leaves you dry. I think this would probably work for all skin types with exception to extremely oily skin. If you've got very oily skin or clogged pores, I recommend the Hyper Skin Gentle Brightening Gel, which is my favorite cleanser at the moment for reducing the look of pores. This Tatcha rice wash comes in second place, as it's super calming and I always reach for this when I want a cleanser to make me feel like I'm at a spa. Be aware that their is some mild fragrance. This really shouldn't cause any issues even on sensitive skin, BUT as always if you have a damaged skin barrier from going too hard on the chemical exfoliates or treatments (can look like small red patches or general stinging when applying products) then I would put down all fragrance products until your skin heals.boyskinJJ

I was writing because I have been a long time customer of this product. After having so many issues in high school and going through subscriptions of Proactive, this product was my saving grace and has done miracles on my skin for the last 15-20 years. After my last bottle was done, I was excited to see that you carried a new, larger size. My excitement quickly faded after using the product and noticed the formula wasn'tthe same….it was runny, felt like slime on my face, smelt like chemical (even though it said fragrance free), my face is completely oily and I am having breakouts like I'm back in High school (and I'm 39!). I am beyond frustrated and feel let down. I use your products for all things skin, including my 1 daughter with eczema. Is there anything you can do with this product? Continue selling old formula? I would rather spend extra on old formula than spend another cent on thos new formula.

I was looking for a gentle cleanser to use at night – I've started applying retinol in my night routines – and I found the Aveeno Foaming Clear Complexion cleanser at Kroger's and decided to give it a try. It is oil and soap free and it has salicylic acid and tone correcting soy in its formula. I have oily and acne prone skin, so the salicylic acid helps a lot. The amount of foam that comes through the pump is perfect to wash my entire face. The fragrance is delicate and refreshing. After rinsing it off, my skin feels soft and super clean, something I wasn't expecting, to be honest. I've used another foaming cleanser that didn't make me feel like my skin was 100% clean. One thing that is important to mention is that before the cleanser, I always use a cleansing oil to remove my makeup and sunscreen and I wasn't sure if this one would totally remove what's left of it. To my surprise, it did and, again, made my skin feel super clean. In my opinion, this is another beautiful product by Aveeno! ❤️ananda.a
Foam cleansers are more drying compared to other forms. The additional salicylic acid (SA) can further irritate dry skin. If you require a potent cleanser, this would be it. But it can have very negative effects if the formula doesn’t agree with your skin. I have combination skin and periodic cases of acne. One time, I had varying types of stubborn facial acne, so my dermatologist recommended to start with this cleanser. I used it every night, then used a light moisturizer. I also wore/wear SPF 50+ sunscreen regularly. The first few days, my skin flaked a little, but that was normal when trying a new acne cleanser. But after a week, my skin was red and peeling, and blisters suddenly formed on my chin. I went a few weeks without washing my face entirely, due to the pain. I opted to use a gentle face wipe, as well as slathering heavy moisturizers and Vaseline all day. I had not used any type of acne products in months prior, so I do not suspect any residual reactions. I had tried many products with SA in the past, including the Neutrogena SA cleanser in both gel and liquid form. There is always some irritation, especially when my skin is adjusting to a new product, but it was never so severe. (I only use acne-focused cleansers as necessary, and prefer hydrating cleansers that are eye-safe). Personally, I suspect that the combination of foam cleanser+SA was too drying for my combo skin. Even with oily skin, I do not recommend using this on a daily basis. And when you do use such a drying product, always pair with a good moisturizer and excellent sun protection! (It will also help you realize if the cleanser itself is to blame for any reactions, instead of sun damage or dry skin). 3 stars because the negative reactions were so harsh, but I was still able to use the rest of the bottle for my body acne, and it was surprisingly effective and non-irritating. A very risky trial-and-error.
I have been struggling with acne on and off and even more recently during the pandemic maybe because of the masks. I normally don't have makeup on when I use a mask but if I do it's just for a brief few minutes. I have been getting a lot of acne on my jaws, cheeks and temples, even on my forehead now. I’ve been using this for over 5 years. I’m in my 40s and still had adult acne, and this has cleared up my skin like nothing else I’ve used. The smell doesn’t bother me like other reviewers, it smells good to me. I love the feeling of this creamy scrub, and my skin never feels dry or taught, it feels healthy and normal. My only complaints are they recently raised their price and the label on this is horrible. I keep this in my shower but out of direct water contact and the label still starts to flake off and there’s little black pieces from the label all over my shower. This little guy is actually a pretty decent exfoliator. The African black soap line is a pretty good line, especially for problematic skin. I usually don't use drugstore due to ingredients (read your labels) but African black soap is a natural remedy for problematic skin. This exfoliator should be used no more than 3 times a week. Over exfoliating can cause irritation and more acne. I have the African black soap, This exfoliator, and the mask, and when used all together consistently, you will get more balanced skin. Though this doesn't "cure" acne, it will help prevent more acne from appearing. I use this exfoliator about twice a week with my other skincare (Pixi, Mario Bedoscu) and my skin has never been in better condition, and I'm 28. If your looking for something to balance your skin, and prevent acne, this little guy is a good choice. If your looking for all your acne to go away, this will probably not be enough. Read ingredients carefully when purchasing skincare people. Skincare brands purposely put ingredients like (Mineral oil, dimethicone) which block pores in their skincare to cause more irritation, hence forcing you to purchase more. If skincare brands made miracle skincare products, they would go out of business. Coming from an oily, 28 year old with HUGE pores, and closed comedones (flesh colored bumps under the skin) your best bet is to watch what your putting on your face. Now that I look at ingredients, my face has never looked better, almost a clear face, and I've never had a clear face. When you pay attention to ingredients, it does a world of good. I wanted to like this a lot since it’s “natural” and has raving reviews, but it just wasn’t for me. Skin always feels so soft after each use, but it also feels like there is a layer of some kind on the skin. Maybe it’s the Shea butter or Coconut? That’s another thing, I don’t like coconut on my face as it’s highly comedogenic! I don’t like anything that clogs pores. I have enough issues with my pores. This is a gentle exfoliant. So gentle that I don’t believe it’s exfoliating anything. After using this, my face don’t feel clean.. feels like I added products on my face instead of “scrubbing”. I'm a skin junkie and veteran when it comes to maintaining my skin barrier while also regularly using retinol, acids ect. and its been a few years since I last made that mistake. so I'm not sure why when I began to use this product consistently she burned and stung my face giving me raw skin. I had always reached for her every then and again when I wanted to use a gentle cleanser and I have never had a problem. yet when I began to use it day and night only I saw the first warning signs of slight burning the day before and dismissed it. well tonight I could barely rinse it off. it burned and made my face and made it feel tender. unfortunately that will be the last time I use it too. I didn't think it lathered that well anyway. I much prefer the consistency of Korres, Saturday Skin and Farmacy when I'm not using my preferred drugstore brand Cerave.suncakes
this does make my face feel very clean but often dry afterwards (i use tretinoin most nights though so my skin is already easily stripped), it’s never made me breakout and has kept any acne from flaring up. a little goes a long way, literally a pea sized drop will lather your whole face (not if you’re wearing eye makeup though). it is an amazing cleanser to use after getting sweaty or dirty and that’s the best thing i have to say. i use waterproof mascara and this does remove it but i have to rub too much for my liking, and sometimes it makes my eyelashes clump together if i don’t use enough. my under eyes are irritated from the friction and it always feels like there’s some mascara left behind, i can’t rub my eyes without feeling like i’m tugging on my lashes. it gets the makeup off, but not before it dries out my eyelashes and under eyes from having to rub so much. i use banila cleansing balm mainly for my eyes, then i double cleanse with this after just to use it up. i won’t be buying again though, pyunkang yul’s low ph deep pore cleansing foam is my holy grail and i’ll be sticking to that. i bought it off ohlolly for like $14 and removes my waterproof mascara just as well as banila’s balm does, and it’s even better because it doesn’t leave my eyes foggy like the banila balm. definitely try pyunkang yul or even banila over this if you’re looking for a waterproof makeup remover and cleanser that is truly gentle.heyhannie

I started using the Ordinary products about 4 months ago and they completely changed my skin, they helped more than anything I had ever tried before. Everyone commented on how amazing my skin looked. The flaky dryness disappeared, I had less blackheads and my hormones didn't affect my skin as much. I recently brought this in a large size as well as the moisturiser and I don't know if it is me or something is different with the product, but my skin is back to flakey and dry. I never had any sensitivity issues with the products, but now the cleanser feels like it burns, my skin feels sore and the products don't feel like they are working. I also feel like the moisturiser burns, and it was my favourite product ever, so im gutted. My skin hurts all day. I don't know if I'm meant to push through and it's some form of purge my skin is doing or if out of nowhere my skin has decided the products no longer work? People are still commenting that my skin is glowing for the most part if they aren't to close to my forehead, but the cleanser isn't meant to hurt right? Can you get a sensitivity to something out of nowhere? I would definitely tell people to try these products as when they work for you it's fantastic, I think the issue is me at this point which sucks.Max
I love this stuff so much I started enjoying double-cleansing again after taking a year's hiatus. I've been double-cleansing for YEARS – before it was really a "thing" in the beauty world – and I've used everything from straight up carrier oils to cleansing balms. Though, I stopped double-cleansing because I felt it a pain in the butt to have to over-rinse to remove residue or oiliness, which would cause my dry skin to become even dryer and tight… and that's why this is the best. The creamy product turns to silky emollient upon application, and rinses away like nothing. It removes even my most stubborn makeup effortlessly and within seconds, and without needing to scrub hard or for long. Meaning, this added step hardly feels like an additional step in my multi-step skincare routine. For best results: I do recommend applying on dry skin, and gradually apply wet fingers to the eye area to remove makeup, and rinse with a cloth and water… Not just water alone. I've read reviews complaining about leftover mascara residue — but I just don't understand it. The first time I used this I was floored at how it removed ALL traces of my makeup with such ease. I could've carried on without double-cleansing. And it's never let me down since. It even seems to be helping with my pores and sebaceous filaments. Though it's not an instant fix. Overall, it's effective, hydrating, gentle, easy-to-use. I'm not sure what more one could want. My biggest gripe is that the smaller bottle doesn't last long, as sometimes you need a little more product than you'd think, but for the price, I can't really complain. Cleansers aren't a 1 size fits all, but I fell in love with this brand after trying their zinc serum & peeling masks (which, paired with my 'clean & clear gel cleanser,' completely fixed my oil & texture problem!), so I was excited to give this a try too. However, I suppose this isn't for people who, like me, are recommended to using "gel-like consistency" for their dry skin [via their esthetician]. After immediate use of this product, my forehead still felt clogged and textured, and oil production was visible on my nose just seconds after. I woke up feeling especially congested, and chose to give this product a 2nd try – this time doubling the amount, and taking more time heating it up and massaging it in. *This was also on my 'ordinary AHA/BHA exfoliation mask morning', so I was curious if that would make a positive difference. However, the results were the same, even with the mask that I swear by. I will be going back to my old drug store cleanser and just enjoying pairing it with the Ordinary serums and masks instead. **The BENEFIT however: was that on the small dermatitis patches I'd developed from wearing/reusing n95 masks 8 hours long every day, are now A LOT less flakier. As a person who had been searching for the "perfect cleanser" for years, I realized a few things. Every company is going to have some new ingredient, some new benefit, some fancy way of describing their product… but at the end of the day, you just need a good face wash. It's worth it to spend a little more to get those key ingredients you don't always get in drug store face washes. This cleanser has become the one I stuck with because it has caffeine for aging skin, Vitamin E because that's basically an essential, and it defends against pollution. The menthol wakes you up and wakes your skin up to get rid of dullness. This face wash is simple enough and effective enough that it even had me buying the 1 Liter (which lasts a year might I add). I received a travel size in one of those birch box things and used it every now and then and loved how it lathered and felt after washing my face so I decided to get a larger bottle when I eventually ran out. I started using this everyday and it destroyed my face. I started getting red bumps on my cheek, my acne hadn't been that bad since high school. I ended up throwing it in the trash. Once I started using Cerave products my skin cleared up in a week or so. This stuff is so expensive compared to your typical skincare brands and didn't work well for me at all, very disappointed.EricJ

I have been really liking this cleanser. It has quite a strong fragrance so if you’re not a fan of your skincare having fragrance this may not be the best choice but I quite like it. It feels really gentle on the skin and I like that the tube has quite a narrow opening so you don’t squeeze too much out and waste product. This is my go to morning cleanser in the shower.

my absolute favourite cleansed of all time! Doesn't break me out, has helped with my acne massively (when paired with the rest of this line of course), always makes my skin feel soooo smooth and the tiniest bit goes the longest way. I have repurchased quite a few times, I don't think I'll ever change back to anything else. And it's pretty cheap on my opinion, considering the amount of washes you can get out of it! love love love it!!

I was looking forward to trying out this gel cleanser as it claimed to be gentle and offers some very effective brightening ingredients. But unfortunately, after use my skin had flare ups of redness and small red bumps all over my face. So I decided to take a closer look at the ingredients list and that is where I realized it contains a preservative known as phenoxyethanol. I've began to notice that this seems to be commonly used throughout all products this brand sells, and so I personally have decided to avoid products containing this preservative as it can trigger flare ups and breakouts. Hopefully this brand can make these small adjustments to make a their products with alternative preservatives that are well tolerated amongst every customer. Caprylhydroxamic Acid, disodium-edta are much more gentle options to consider
I was so sad when this was out of stock for a month or so, I tried other products but nothing compared. It's everything I would want in a face wash. A little goes a long way, it doesn't dry my skin out, and it leaves my skin feeling soft. I was taken aback by the smell when I first tried it, but now I don't notice it, and maybe like it a bit – It reminds me of black licorice. So I have very sensitive, oily acne prone skin. I’ve been using the clear skin cleansing bar because it seemed to be the only one to help keep the pimples down. I was recently advised by a consultant for Urban Rx to only use the clear skin cleanser 2x a week at night and to use the gentle gel cleanser as my main daily cleanser. Honestly, I don’t believe that it’s truly gentle enough for sensitive skin. Although my skin feels clean, it also feels a bit irritated after and it does nothing for my acne. The BEST CLEANSER Urban Skin ever made for sensitive, oily acne prone skin was the CLEAN AND GLOW CLEANSER!! I miss it so much! It was a life saver and it hurts that it was discontinued! This little gem came in a bundle that I purchased to try out different products. I recommend folks to purchase bundles to get the vast array of products that they offer. I have very dry skin that coincides with the side effect of a skin disorder that I have. A lot of facial cleansers I am allergic to or have reactions to. So I was wary of this, but I gave it a try. I was thrilled that I didn't have a reaction or a breakout from using it. But the best surprise was how soft and clean my skin was. I have been using it since about a year ago. I totally love their face wash products. I have tried three different ones and they all work wonders in my face. As soon as I get pimples in my face I use this wash twice daily and literally those pimples go away without leaving marks in my face!! After washing with this face soap my skin feels really soft. I found it didn’t leave my skin feeling like a dried up orange peel like the face soap I normally use. I like that it has Vitamin C in it as I’ve used Vitamin C for a long time and know the awesome benefits. I really look forward to continued use of this face soap to really see how my skin does with it. Back during my Isotretinoin days this was a life-saver. I'd been doing fine with Laneige Water Bank and the sleeping mask, but it got to the point where my skin just feel constantly tight and dried out, no matter how much of those I used or layered. I picked up Cetaphil for quite a bargain. It seemed like a simple enough basic moisturizer – nothing fancy in there apart from some Avocado oil, Vit B5 and Vit E and a few other additions. My biggest fear was this would somehow break me out. It felt quite rich to me, I can recall the first time I applied it was just a very tiny amount. Over the following days I applied more and more liberally as I began to realize my skin was soaking up the moisture and had no issues with Cetaphil's ingredients or heaviness. I used this twice a day and ended up going through 2 bottles of this before switching to something a bit richer. For dry skin issues and basically replenishing moisture (but without any additional benefits) I would recommend giving this a go. It's cost effective and does the job nicely. Over the last few months my skin has been breaking out so bad. I was embarrassed and felt shameful about it, I would absolutely hate going out without makeup or wearing a mask. In my area, the mask mandate has been lifted and now when I wear one I feel so awkward. I went to Costco and saw they had this on sale, after trying nearly everything for my face, both natural remedies and bottled washes/ointments, I was feeling like my face was just getting worse/no improvement at all I figured I would give it a try. I was a little put off by the consistency as it's not something you typically get when buying a face wash. It almost feels like you're just putting a very thin and watery lotion (which I don't mind at all, actually love it) on your face. After the first, YES the FIRST night using it, I woke up and could already visibly see a different. My poor scabbed over face was soft and the redness almost completely gone. I tried it both ways, completely rinsing my face and then just wiping it away. Either way it's been doing wonders! I'll wash my face in the shower at night, and then in the morning in the sink. Hot water to start, then massage and rinse with cold water and dab a towel. I've been using it for just about a week and my face is almost completely clear! It feels soft and I can definitely tell my face is much more hydrated and happy. And I'm happy! Acne and scaring can be such a difficult thing to cope with. I'm definitely calling this a life saver!!!! And for the price, its more than perfect! I am a creature of habit. I like to depend on things in my life that work, and I made a big mistake by assuming that such an iconic name that was the most important part of my skincare since adolescence would never change. Dermatologist after dermatologist recommended this face wash year after year after year – and I was glad they did. It worked great for me and I counted on it to give me the exact kind of non-irritating clean that I needed. Fast forward nearly 20 years when I suddenly notice that the bottle I just purchased was a "new and improved" formula. It smells like some disgusting petroleum product, is a completely different consistency, requires me to use nearly twice as much as the "old" formula, and my face feels oily and gross by mid day. This cleanser reeks – literally and figuratively. It reeks of a money grab by a company trying to extend their product with fillers that cause customers to use twice as much. PS – the nozzle clogs every few days. Good luck being able to actually dispense the product into your palm when it sprays in a new direction every couple of days. This product is truly pitiful and nothing like what it used to be. Ihope this will at least keep someone else from falling into the "new and improved" product trap.Disappointed Dude

Skin Type – Combination skin, Firstly, my friends and I never use clean and clear cleansers because they use the beads which is bad for the environment. But when I saw in Walmart this cute packaging with no beads I immediately bought it. Plus I know very well lemon is not only good for your system but for your skin. When I tried it in the night while showering, lathered on my hand while my face was wet. The scent and cleansing process was so refreshing it felt all my tiredness went away. My routine is – Clean and clear cleanser, toner, Vitamin C serum, gel moisturizer, and eye plumping gel cream. The next morning my skin felt "tight", shiny, pretty reflective. People think the tightness is bad but it's actually go for my skin because I don't want it to sag I want my skin firm as a i grow older and from their I can pack as much moister from the tightness of my skin. So it's good. To keep in mind mostly focus on the oilyier part of your skin a tad longer, using circles with your hands than your drier parts. Other wise it will get itchy. The itchyness is not something severe it's prop because of the surface of your skin You can easily put aloe vera moisterizer if it keeps itching. Honestly, my overal reaction is great cause my face feels literally alive. My skin feels like its so refreshed in life lol. But I honestly think people who have oily or oily combination/ combination skin should try this. Make sure to use gel type moisturizer. It completes the whole refreshed feel and look after a spa. After decades of using Clean & Clear Essentials for sensitive skin I was disappointed when the formula changed and I stopped using it. But, then I stumbled upon the Lemon Gel Cleanser. I've used it for 2 weeks now. Love the lemony fresh fragrance and it removes makeup well. The consistency is perfect, not watery. Leaves my face feeling light and fresh. I found it on the discontinued shelf at Walmart. Just hope I can find it again.Eboni5
I have been using the cleanser for months now and recently I purchased the rest of the line. I read some other reviews and a lot of people are saying that it dried out their face. I experienced this when I first started using it. However, I realized that the problem was I was not following up with a moisturizer. If you are experiencing these problems, only use the cleanser once a day instead of twice and use a moisturizer after. I did this and I no longer experience any problems. Also, when I first used it my face was getting a lot more pimples. I was confused because I never really got many before. I realized, though, that it was bringing all the dirt to the surface. Keep in mind, if you haven’t really used a cleanser before it will CLEASE your face of stuff you didn’t know was there, so don’t be worried.

I saw a lady on TikTok using this. She had a counter full of expensive skincare and then this $12 dollar cleanser. It really made me scratch my head. There were no sponsorship links either. So I went to Walgreens and grabbed the last bottle they had. Guess a lot of people use it. Wash my face and It makes my face feel super clean without feeling dry and tight. It has little pink granules that gently exfoliate. It’s a thick bubbly paradise. It has Vitamin C and Yuzu extract. This is my first purchase from Soap Glory and definitely won’t be my last. the little pink things are microplastics used as a means to exfoliate. unlike other common means of physical exfoliation like sugar scrubs, they do not dissolve. this means they travel through the water supply, likely contributing to clogs/slow drains in your home, fatbergs in sewers of populated areas, and polluting water wherever they go. that was the first reason I became so disappointed in this product and company. it came to my attention they were plastic when I had a huge zit that never went away. finally when it was drained, one of these plastic bits came out and I was put on antibiotics to take care of any infection resulting of this thing being trapped in my skin. I'm really disappointed in this product and expect better from a brand thriving in a time where skincare science has come so far.K
Soap and Glory just nail it when it comes to beauty. I've used this for years. Whilst it technically isn't a face soap, it is so gentle on my skin. I've used this since having oily skin in my teens, through to combination, sensitive and normal skin now. The Yuzu smell reminds me of Summer all year round and I feel so clean and refreshed every time I use it. Such good value.
