20 Best Facial Primers For Mature Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

Having combination skin and a T-zone that gets super shiny very fast, I haven't yet found the Holy Grail Primer I've been looking for, but this is as close as I've gotten. I do not wear foundation or powder, only a bit of concealer here and there where I need it, so I basically wear this alone just in my T-zone to even out the texture and mattify it as much as I can. I have tried a million different brands that promise to mattify for 8 hours or 12 hours or whatever, and none of them do. For a couple hours, tops, and then you either have to reapply or blot. Even though the target of this one isn't primarily to mattify, I find it does so anyway and that it lasts the longest of all the others I've tried. I still do have to blot during the day, but less frequently than I do with other primers, even ones whose main purpose is to mattify. It also does even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance of pores. I can't speak to whether this works well under a lot of makeup, but I can certainly apply a small amount of concealer no problem. It also doesn't cause me to break out and it feels light on my skin. Is it perfect? For me, no. But is it the best one I've tried so far? Yes. I'll keep using it unless I eventually find something better.RennieLynn

First off, I would not have spent the money on this product had I not received a sample of it to try a few years ago. This stuff is magic for me! I put it on top of my foundation along my T zone and upper cheek area-it instantly smoothes out my skin; both pores and fine lines. I have deep set lines in my forehead (have had them since I was a teenager) and this product helps blur them. A little bit goes a long way! I have tried it under my foundation but it’s magic effect is way less noticeable, so that’s a no for me unless I don’t wear foundation that day. It’s very matte so if dewy is the look you are going for, this isn’t it. All in all, I love this product and splurge on the bigger tube for the “Benefit�!melissa.k

I had heard so many amazing things about this primer through a girlfriend, so I decided to try out a sample size. I hadn’t used a primer in a while since I hadn’t really found one I had liked. Trying it out for the first time I wasn’t sure about the consistency but after I saw how it made my face look smooth and my pores look smaller I was instantly interested. After completing my whole set of makeup I loved the way the primer changed my look. I think this specific primer works well for people with oily skin. They also have a lightweight and a hydrating primer for those who may have drier skin. Overall, I liked this product so much I went out and purchased the regular size bottle. Okay, so I felt like this product deserved at least a couple stars, because it did have a pretty finish under my makeup; however, this wasn’t a great experience for me… thus my 2-star rating. I’m not a huge fan of the silicone-feel that so many primers have, and always find myself steering away from silicone slip and over to the creamy/putty-type options that seem to grip your makeup a little more. Unfortunately, this product gave me the worst reaction. I don’t typically have sensitive or irritated skin – in fact, I can usually be a little tougher on my skin, because I have built up tolerance to acids and chemical peels over the years (I’m a stylist, esthetician, and salon owner, so I’m hooked on skincare!). This primer left my skin actually feeling painful after just one use. My skin did not LOOK raw, but it felt it even basic, soothing moisturizers and post-peel/chemical soothing regimen didn’t calm to stinging for a few days. Also, even though I initially liked the look of the primer and how my makeup wore on top of it, I noticed that throughout the day, my makeup just didn’t last. It seemed as if my foundation just slid off my skin left my contour/blush areas feeling a bit muddy because the foundation was migrating. It was coming off onto EVERYTHING – phone, clothes, hands, etc. – and caused me more issues than I would’ve had just going in without anything – even without moisturizer – to prep the skin. I liked this idea of this product, and honestly WANTED to love it as much as I love so many other Yves Saint Laurent cosmetic products, but this one fell flat for me. I attempted one other time to try it again with a water-based foundation and very minimal, clean products in combination in case it was reacting to something else I was using alongside of it, but I had the exact same experience. At least my wallet is happy that I didn’t love it, and I’ll go back to my ride-or-die Elf Putty Primer that never fails me! I had got 2 sample bottles from an online purchase I made and I set them in my primer drawer for whenever I needed a new one. Well the last two months (Since my birthday Sept. 20th) I have been buying and trying a bunch of different foundations, my skin has changed a-lot over the last year and it made my Base application go on bad. My skin was always oily and now its combo but with bad dry patches and very oily T Zone. And I tried so many foundations and I hate returning things but no matter what I tried as a primer nothing looked right. Then I tried this magic potion aka Eclat Blur Primer and Had I used it during my foundation escapade, I might have liked them had I thought to try it sooner. This primer is magic in a bottle, in my opinion. I only used one sample bottle and I knew I couldn’t go without it now that I fell in love… I don’t want to breakup lol. So I made a purchase at Sephora before their sale ended. I did an exchange of the newest Pat McGrath palette, I hadn’t touched it (didn’t swatch it) it was part of an online order I had done in the middle of the night- last month. So I never wanted it didn’t remember buying it (and other items too). Luckily they told me that it would go through an inspection to determine if they would toss it or put out to be sold or made into the stores sample. She told me it passed. So with the $78 credit I bought few things and got the VIB Rouge discount and snatched this primer up right away, it was the last 1 in store too. My total after the credit + discount + gift card I had= I paid $4 difference, And walked out happy. This Primer makes my skin feel and loom smoother than a babies bottom. My skin looked plump and youthful, and my foundation looks amazing. It has made me put on makeup more the last two wks than I have in a Year. Theirs no dry patches anymore, my pores are hardly noticeable, it has a beautiful lit from within glow, it looks defused, its Non-comedogenic! Perfection in a bottle…jahnay.w

One of the BEST primers I have ever used. It looks so pretty! I got the deluxe sample size in one of the sets from Sephora just can’t get enough of this wonder product. I realize the applicator is different between the deluxe full sized ones, but I love the applicator as well, cause it’s shaped like a spatula, and you can scoop up the appropriate amount of product, and don’t have to worry about wasting any. It has very fine glittery particles that add so much radiance to the skin, and looks incredibly amazing overall even under tons of make up products. I looked in the mirror while I was outside in the sun, and I was literally glowing! My skin is dry, and very hard to pick a good primer for, but this one works great! I would definitely be purchasing a full size one after I finish this bottle. A little goes a long way! So, even with the deluxe sample sized one, you’ll be using is for at least couple of weeks!maggie.q

I finally caved and purchased this primer as I have heard nothing but rave reviews about it. The internet and all its glory makes this seem like it is the secret for porcelain doll skin. Well I really tried, but it just didn’t work out for me. I picked this up at Rexall for $14CDN. Not bad price wise but I was expecting a wee bit less for Elf. The texture is very creamy. Not greasy but similar to the texture of the Elf Miracle Eyeshadow Primer. No silicone texture either. As you can see in my picture, it has a light pink hue that blends away. I find after I apply it it doesn’t really do anything. It just blends into the skin. When I apply my foundation I find it mixes with the primer and my face just looks streaky. I have applied the primer and will work on my eyes, to give the primer a chance to ‘set’. Even then, it doesn’t make a difference. When I do get my face looking adequate, it doesn’t take long and my foundation disappears. There is no lasting power for this primer. Let me start by saying the Poreless Putty Primer was by no means my first primer nor my first product with a cream, gel or putty-like consistency. However, I was skeptical of a primer I needed to "pick up" and apply with my fingers much like a potted lip balm. I love reviews and claims but I often have to try something to honestly believe the claims so I did just that and chose this version because I've always preferred primers that helped blur or diminish the appearance of the pores on my cheeks near my nose. It took a couple of uses to fully understand this primer because initial I only applied it to certain areas of my face thinking it would clog pores then I used it all over but not really; meaning the amount was probably too negligible for actually priming my face evenly and it showed. Quick DISCLAIMER: This review is for when I initially tried this primer after it debuted; before any of the specialty brushes and when the suggested tips were to use your fingers to "warm up the product and evenly distribute over your face". So…I'll sum this up faster as everyone else has reviewed this and I'm sure my results after using it correctly are probably similar to those who had positive experiences. It IS easy to use and although I mentioned not using enough of it, you do not need a lot of product for a full face cover; I was just being overly cautious (lame). There is no strong fragrance and even though I used my fingers for my first jar it never looked sloppy or messy when opened because the formulas stays firm and literally melts with the heat from your fingertips. I can't honestly say I saw a big difference in my pores from just this product but it is possible. What is true is that I've got multiple face primers including a well-known brand's "Pore….sional" that was my hands down favorite for years and lately I've found myself using the elf product over that one because of the tackier grip that allows for longer lasting wear. Unlike that brand's product this isn't one to reapply over makeup during the day if you want a blurring effect (you can do this with the other) but I have travel sizes of the other should I want to touch that up.Beliza2

So I know people LOVE this stuff, and I wanted to love it too. It's been called a dupe for a more luxury brand's primer and it's the underdog darling of the makeup community. When I first put it on, it sank into my skin well and made my makeup look pretty darn good at first. But within an hour my makeup was breaking apart and separating off my face, which has never been a problem before using this product. Now, people might say that it's the type of makeup I'm using. Maybe not every brand's makeup is compatible with every primer. But I only use ELF makeup. At the very least, you'd expect their makeup to be compatible with their own primer! I also have very dry skin naturally due to an autoimmune problem, and never have an issue with my face getting too greasy and ruining my makeup, even in hot weather. This primer also made my face feel lastingly greasy and borderline waxy, even after using a 2 step makeup remover. I am pretty disappointed.BringMeTea

I typically have dry to normal skin. This primer is very hydrating, and I love the pump on it. But I feel like it doesn't keep my foundation in place. I've tried a few different ways before reviewing. Usually my foundation stays in place all day but I feel like it kinda if causes it to swipe right off. Usually I can touch my face and my foundation doesn't come off (with powder and setting spray) but using this primer it tends to come right off with a touch especially later in the day after wearing it for a few hours. I love this primer so much! I will never get another one to use in my face, this primer makes my face clear and soft. It doesn’t give me any pimples or acne. Since, I started using this primer I don’t use any other one because it gives me the support and the coverage I want! I really recommend this primer and I hope you guys love it so as I do!! I bought after all the reviews I saw About it. Plus, it’s considered a “dupe” of its several High end competitors. Which, I agree. I wouldn’t be surprised if Elf was the genius formula creator behind all the big brand products too, instead of being the brand coming out with Similar affordable products that are more wallet realistic for the Everyday consumer after the other big brand releases. They totally could be doing both. Lots of cosmetic companies sell their formula privately and let others brand it with their name. NYX and NARS, for example. Anyway, made my makeup last snd apply beautifully. Soft and nice smelling. Great price and was confident in buying regardless of reviews, because ELF is consistent and reliable with the products they put out to sell. They always do the job and then there is so many that do the job so great, they save you money from spending it on the more expensive brand that may not be worth the hype or worth getting addicted to when it’s ridiculously priced for its packaging snd not the actual formula. Elf isn’t cheap, they make beauty products accessible to the everyday consumer. Elf doesn’t play it safe, they keep it simple. If they played it safe, they wouldn’t release amazing products at insanely low prices that sometimes also mirror that trendy viral product triple its price. This actually reminds me of Tatcha Silk Canvas. Plus, I loved not having to come up with a 30 minute PowerPoint presentation on why it was smart for me to buy a 50 dollar primer to my boyfriend who just learned what primer was a month ago. “You paid 50 bucks for something that is invisible and doesn’t even show up on your skin?” He’s slowly learning, emphasis on slowly. When I relayed the importance of primer just like primer at his job when he used to paint houses, which painting and makeup is so similar it’s crazy, he seemed to understand and agree. It’s all about how you prep the canvas, whether house or face, for the product you put on it. If your primer is a great formula, the end result will be great too. If you want your end result product to last and look good and even and clean; don’t skip the primer and don’t skip out on a good one too. Not all expensive makeup products are worth it, price isn’t always reflective on if it’s a good formula or not. You all, this primer here is a GAME CHANGER! I’ve used some of the higher end brands and they just DO NOT compare. This stuff literally shrinks your pores and give you a such a smooth finish and lay with your makeup. Every time I use this everything just lays in a synchronized way. I pray NYX never gets rid of this product. I just might have to buy up the entire stock whenever I go to my nearest target to purchase just to be on the safe side. I always get compliments of how well my makeup is laid and there is no doubt this primer plays a huge part in that with the matte finish primer. Highly recommended!Alluring Beauty

I received this in a subscription box at some point and it had been put away in a box of beauty samples. I came across some of these today and decided to try them out. This one is a nice formula, it's creamy and super pigmented. I just wasn't super in love with it, but I can't point to any specific reason why, so I won't remove any stars for that. The reason for the missing star is that it is not very long lasting. I put this on in my bedroom to try it out and within 10 minutes of me just cleaning up my vanity I already would have needed to reapply in the real world. The color, lifeguard, is a very pretty deep red color. Not my red, I tend to go for bright blue reds, but this is a very nice deep blue red.jennifer.h

I have an oily tzone. So I use a matte primer in my tzone. I had been using Hourglass Mineral Veil and had heard this formula was so similar. I would say is is very much like HG. I used the whole bottle. It did hold back oils. I didn't use it on my normal skin. I use something more moisturizing. I do recommend if you enjoy Hourglass Mineral Veil you may love this primerlisa .s

So now that we're able to take off our masks in most places/scenarios, it is now time for me to take care of the pool of grease sitting atop of my face. When I tell you if I don't wear primer, setting powder and setting spray, my face looks insane – please believe me lol. This was a purchase I needed to make and along with a good loose setting powder and mattifying setting spray, I was able to control the oil. By the end of the day, sure I may still be a tad bit *shimmery* in the t-zone, but this makes a huge improvement. Bonus: applying it feels luxurious. It has a fresh, natural scent and the texture isn't sticky (Hydro Grip feels sticky to me.) It's a product I look forward to putting on. I'm not really one for wearing a primer under my makeup, and hate the feel of most SPF50s as they can be quite thick and feel heavy. But I decided to give this a go as it's a 2in1, had great reviews and was a good price for the amount. I'm so glad I gave it a go, it's such a fantastic primer. The consistency is lovely, it's not too thick and heavy and it's not thin and runny either. It doesn't sit on the skin, it soaks in and makes your skin look more refreshed while also protecting it from the sun. My foundation sits beautifully on top of it (I wear Clinique even better as I have dry skin with oily tzone). You get a fantastic amount for the price and the bottle is lovely too. I find this product is great for mattifying the face. A Prep/primer before foundation especially Bobbi Brown products. This works amazing with the 'skin long-wear' matte foundation. It is affordable. Not super expensive. I'd recommend. 5 star. Even comes with 45ml. Smells so nice like skin caring ingredients. Fresh. Easy to wear with makeup or without. Little goes a long way. I gave this 2 stars because it indeed does help with making your makeup last longer, keeping shine at bay. With the effectiveness, you'd think – Less shine, less oil- Less chance for breakouts. But unfortunately, after a week of using this primer, my usually clear skin developed some serious cystic acne. It's something I was concerned about when I purchased it, thinking it was very similar in texture to other primers that broke me out. But thought-For sure, companies have to have improved on that over the years! If you are at all breakout prone, this may be ok for a one or 2 day special occasion, like a wedding. Combination skin. I’ve used lots of different primers. I do rotate primers. Depends on time of year…summer, fall/winter. I’ve used tatcha silk canvas, tarte smoothing primer, Fenty, hourglass, Rare beauty. Currently using rare beauty pore diffusing primer which I love. Purchased La Base by Lancôme and its going to be my go to! Staple! So silky smooth. Skin feels baby soft. Gives me such a blurring effect. Pores are so blurred. I like to dust on hourglass veil setting powder to give my skin more of a glow. La Base and hourglass setting powder, good combination. I use a skin tint and this helps it to last. Good combination…not so matte giving some hydration. Amazing product! And definitely recommend.boww

I have been searching for a Primer that will keep my makeup, and no-makeup, days less oily. This product is amazing! I am so happy with it and will be using it as a daily staple. This is a really nice primer! While I don’t have very deep lines, I do have somewhat marked smile lines that would be accentuated with foundation so I wouldn’t wear any. This primer definitely helps smooth the look of them. The texture feels very nice on the skin without just sitting on top, it also doesn’t feel silicone-y. Foundation (or tinted moisturizer in my case) goes over smoothly and layers very well with it. It also layers well with my skincare as the previous step. It made my makeup look good for the whole day (8-10 hours). I also like that even though it’s a makeup product, you get the benefits of skincare with it. Highly recommend to check it out.elenaph

This is a decent primer overall. It goes on smooth and has a minty/menthol-like smell. The smell isn't super strong, but it did burn a little when I put it on the drier parts of my skin, such as under my eyes. My foundation applied nicely over it, but it didn't help with the longevity at all. In fact, throughout the day, my foundation began to break apart around my mouth and nose area. By the end of the day, there was hardly any foundation left on those areas. It was pretty strange, it just evaporated. This primer was the only new product I was using, at the time, so that had to be it. Plus, I really didn't see any improvement with my wrinkles. That was a disappointment considering it has "anti-wrinkle" right there in the name of the product. So I won't be repurchasing this one anytime soon. I bought both this and the Pacifica Cherry Matte Mattifying Primer to see how well they worked at reducing shine. The Pacifica product was meh (unless you want to still look "glowy") but this product was amazing. Just the tiniest bit patted on my fingertip is enough to completely get rid of any shine, and it lasts longer than anything else I've ever used. It needs to be lightly patted onto the skin, not smeared on. Use it very, very sparingly and one tiny jar will last for months. I hope they never stop selling this!Nature Lover

I have been searching far and wide for a dupe for my Hydrablur Primer by Dermalogica because it is one of my HG but I order it online and it is expensive. I found this product and the ingredient list is simple yet effective & non-comedogenic (a big plus for me)! This product creates a smooth base and fills in the textures I want. I scoop out a small amount with a tiny spoon and warm the product on my fingertips before applying to my t-zone, chin, and smooth out on my cheeks. I recommend having your skin moisturized well before using this product!! If I notice that there are some areas on my face that need more product, I light dab a tiny amount and work the product in. This product is in a cute container that is very portable, but on that note, for the price point and amount of product given it is kind of pricey for what you get. It has been working for me thus far but I use sparingly – less is more with this one y'all.Kait

UPDATE (3-3-21) I don't like the fact that even a tiny amount makes my liquid and my mineral powder foundation appear like my skin is peeling off where I've applied this. I've used it a total of 3 times now, using only the tip of my pinky finger and then only a tiny amount with a Q-Tip. I have only used this with Loreal's Pro-Matte foundation and their mineral foundation. It's a tiny jar for the price you pay! Holy Moley! It's a very smooth, satiny, or even silky, almost delicate texture. So, I'm on the fence about the Magic Perfecting Base Primer. I decided to purchase the Infallible Matte foundation to see if it would hell keep my face looking good or at least prevent the foundation from making my skin look dry. I applied a very tiny amount to key areas i would like to cover (forehead, smile lines, tiny line on my chin, nose..)and I waited a good 10 minutes or longer before I applied the foundation. My nose looked like skin was peeling after a sunburn, it was the product-I lightly brushed it off and thought maybe I used more than a tiny amount? No idea. But all I had to do is just lightly brush off what got cakey and was good to go! No messy look on that area after. I'm happy my face didn't break out! That is a major plus! I have been using this for maybe two months now. I have been a big lover of the Too Faced plumping products for a long time. And i am very much in love with this serum. This doesn’t tingle like the lip products, but it does leave my skin feeling and looking plump, nourished and with a healthy glow without the stickiness or oily residue. I have very dry skin as i tend to opt for serums and products that are more targeted for texture but i felt like i needed something to add more nourishment and hydration to my skin and this does just that. The products absorbs quickly it has a pleasant smell and as someone who actually reads the ingredient list in the back, i was very surprised as to how many good for you ingredients it contains. I was furious with the first application. The consistency and tackiness was wretched. I went back and read reviews/directions. SHAKING IT UP IS THE EQUIVALENT OF NIGHT AND DAY! Before giving a bad review, make sure you as the user, have exhausted all options. I previously worked in a cosmetic, dermatology type atmosphere. I had the opportunity to test products and procedures that were being used around the world. The #1 issue is UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS. People want to believe that one product will be the holy grail..the equivalent of The Fountain of Youth. A product or procedure that is going to take off 30 years worth of sun damage and aging. THERE IS NO SUCH MIRACLE! This serum by itself will not turn back the hands of time. If you set your expectations too high, you are going to be disappointed in most anything you try. Sun damage, enlarged pores, etc. did not occur overnight, it took years to develop the damage you see in the mirror today. Im not too big into wearing primers unless they have an added skin care benefit like moisture, protection from pollution or blue light, or have antioxidants etc I’ve never been a fan of pore filling primers that have that thick silicone like texture. Too Faced is a great brand and because it’s winter I did want a primer that added hydration to my skin. That’s when I discovered this Plump Primer Primer from Too Faced and I fell in love with it. I love that it has a serum type texture but is lightweight and absorbs into my skin really well. It’s packed with some amazing ingredients like Peptides, Hydrolyzed Rice Extract, Vitamin C, Lactic acid,Licorice root, Niacinamide etc It not only deeply hydrates my skin but also promotes collagen production and protects my skin from environmental aggressors. Since I started using it my skin texture is better, and my overall complexion is more even and supple. Amazing primer with Amazing benefits!lisa.f

I got this in Clear, number 400. Nice soft silky texture, almost like a serum but not. Sinks into skin easily. Is hydrating but not greasy. Didn't make my makeup seperate. Hydrated under my matte foundation, making my foundation not dry and cakey looking. Didn't break me out, so it has gentle ingridents. Feels light on the skin like you're not wearing anything. Has no scent. Didn't exactly blur pores or make my complextion/skin texture look fantastic, but looked better than without the primer. The price is reasonable.
I love that it's clear because I have a dye allergy to colored products. I don't like how it's not packaged in plastic and anyone can open it and use it in stores, which they do. A little doesn't go a long way but the product doesn't run out super fast.Jen Miller

I adore this product and have purchased it for myself and girlfriends many times. It illuminates your skin! Helps soften and hide minor wrinkles in photos, creates this dewy but NoT greasy look. So many times while I’m wearing it people will comment to me about how good my skin looks. Girlfriends will ask if I had Botox or work done and even my dermatologist ask what the product was bc she wanted it. The saddest part of this is I think they discontinued this product.Cindy C.

You’d think by the age of 40 I would have used a primer by now. But nope, fresh out of the gate newb. Again I believe I did some research (YouTubing) on this and primers in general. Which ones were the best and then looked for dupes of the best. I had always heard of primer but I figured it’s main use was to make makeup last longer and usually I’m only wearing it for a handful of hours at night so I don’t need it for regular day use. But then when I googled if it helped your face look better too or if makeup applied better/looked better w it, it said it did. So I went on the hunt. I’m pretty sure this was a dupe for smash box. At first I thought it was just hyped, overpriced moisturizer but tried it again when I switched to powder foundation because I wanted a good hydrating primer and not so much a pore filling one. This really hydrates and makes my skin look so nice. It truly makes a difference with the powder and helps it blend and not be cakey. I also love that it has good ingredients. That's something other primers miss out on, being good for your skin. It's very light and milky in texture and absorbs pretty quickly with no greasy or funny after feeling. And most importantly, it didn't break me out! As far as scent, I get a plain lotion scent with maybe a hint of what you can call coconut unless I got a defective one. But that doesn't bother me. I do think it's a bit pricey for the amount you get so I just wait for sales or coupons. But definitely my new favorite primer!Bambi

I absolutely loooooooooooove this primer/moisturizer. I call it a moisturizer because I don't really believe in "primers" unless they are for pore filling. This one smells amazing as excpected, and is so ffing creammy! It feels sooo moisturizing on the skin, and I even use it as a night cream mask, as Jerrod said in a video. I use it alone on bare skin or under my foundation, and it does leave my skin so dewy. Ps. This is NOT a pore minimizer primer, so I dont know why some woman on the reviews, was expecting to get that result, she should inform herself better.MichiGT

Paired this primer up with the foundation and it wore beautifully. A light weight primer as well. Very liquidy. Helped my makeup stay on a good amount of time as i would wear it throughout the day. Helped to have minimal seperation on the skin and was overall a nice product for me. I have oily skin. One thing though is it came in a large tube, which i loved but its expiration was so soon. I thought i would be able to stretch out its use, but once it expired it was no longer good to use. It turned yellow and weird so i couldn’t keep using after expiring. Great product though if you’re looking to buy this and wear makeup a lot, or even a little !!yvette.g

I have very VERY oily skin but recently also started getting a form of dermatitis in specific spots on my face. I was previously using the BM Prime Time primer and I liked it very much. When I tried to order over the phone from a store recently that store was out of the Prime Time so I told the sales-woman about my skin and she suggested I try the Milky Face primer due to having combo skin now (the dermatitis caused dry flaky patches). OMG I've never been so satisfied with the way my skin looks at the end of the day after hours of wearing makeup and working. This primer keeps the extra oily areas looking really good while also working over the dry patches. I will now be switching to the Milky Face primer from now on. Good Hydrations is an answer to my prayers! After running out of the Prime Time primer, I went to the BE store and asked about a primer for dry skin. The rep gave me a sample of Good Hydrations and my life changed forever! I've suffered from acne and dry skin for (too many) years. Dermatologists would give me acne medicines that would dry out my skin and make my acne worse. It was so bad that when I DIDN'T wash my face, I had less acne! Finally, I've found what my skin has longed for. With GH, my acne stopped. Even on days I don't wear makeup, I use GH (after my moisturizer) to keep my face moisturized and clear. This primer makes my makeup look awful. It highlights pores (my foundation seems to pool in them), makes my fairly oily skin look dry and flaky and makes it really hard work to blend my foundation and concealer. I've tried a sponge, brush and my fingers, nothing helps when applying. When wearing a mask, after a couple of hours all of my makeup under the mask has rubbed off, not a smidge is left! I can't NOT recommend this product enough. For reference, I'm 26, have oily, fair skin and use Urban Decays Stay Naked foundation with this primer.Ellie

I don't generally read online reviews nor write them, but in this case I wish I had. The "new" Primed and Poreless is TERRIBLE. Really awful. It's runny and greasy. WHYYYYYY did they mess with the original? I am a long time Too Faced customer. I use their primer, foundation, eye shadow, mascara, you name it. Super happy with everything. Then I ran out of primer and placed an order for this "advanced" formula and hate it. Please please please bring back the original formual. It was brilliant! I honestly am blessed with good skin, partly due to my careful selection of skincare products and a regime I stick to faithfully. However, the one problem that constantly irritates me, and has led to a frustrating search for a solution, is my visible pores. I've been told they aren't nearly as bad as I think they are, but we'll, your friends have to say that kind of thing don't they! I know they are there, and I hate them! So, I have tried many, many cleansers, toners, masks, creams etc, and pretty much every primer I've ever come across. THIS is by far and away the best. It's one of the few products that I always keep a spare of since I can't bear the thought of running out! A major bonus is the price, it's about half the amount of my previous favourite, but performs so much better. My skin feels silky, it doesn't leave an odd coloured residue on my olive toned skin, and sits beautifully under my usual tinted moisturiser without 'balling up' like I've sometimes experienced with other primers. The packaging is cute too! Definitely worth a go in my opinion, it's certainly one of my 'must have at all times' make up bag essentials!Kirsty

Oh and it knocks off 10 years instantly…what more can I say! I apply 1-2 minutes before foundation as this gives it a chance to settle in and work better. When using this I can usually skip the moisturizer totally as this has a slight hydrating effect (but keep in mind my skin is on the oily side anyway). I always get compliments on my skin when I use this which is why I keep returning to it. Hourglass review I was gifted by Hourglass Cosmetics their Vanish Primer in exchange for my honest review. First off let me say I am a diehard Hourglass fan. You absolutely get what you pay for. Not only luxury products but one of my favorite brands for their packaging. Exquisite! I’ve yet to have a product of theirs not be perfect for me. This primer feels like liquid silk. I do not have oily/shiny skin but my daughter does and she found that working all day at her fast food job it not only controlled her shine but her makeup looked just as good as it did when she started her shift. I like this because there is little to no scent and it played well with my sunscreen. No pilling or separating issues at all. Again, Hourglass products are not ‘cheap’ and they are well worth my hard earned money. Also, I love their Brow Shaping Gel! I didn't think that anything could top the original Hourglass primer. I love that stuff, and have used it in my kit for years. But this one may have even topped it! I love how it seems to control oil and shine, while still feeling hydrating on the skin. It doesn't have the powder finish the original seems to have, but sinks in nicely and leaves a really smooth base for foundation. I do feel like the foundation lasts longer when I use this primer as well, which is always needed when clients need a face to stay on for 16+ hours. Kudos to Hourglass for outdoing themselves on this primer. I feel like every skin type will not only enjoy it, but reap the benefits from it as well. First of all, I’m not a primer person. I typically invest in other base products because I require an elaborate moisturising routine. So when the sales person said that this primer does what it says on the bottle I wasn’t overly convinced until I tried it. The product is viscose and blends well but does not shift or ball up once applied. There’s no pigmented or greasy sheen to it either. So while it’s very comfortable to wear and apply, the real benefit comes once a foundation or even powder is applied. Everything, and I have tried concealers, foundations and powders, goes on so smoothly. I don’t wear full coverage foundation and so formulations have to really perform given I don’t want merky looking skin or patchy looking foundation. So if like me, you don’t exactly believe you *need* a primer, then this is the one you will WANT.ChlNel

I love this primer. Creates an amazing glow with any foundation. Very hydrating and allows makeup to stay put all day. Whenever I wear this I feel my skin looks so so so smooth and clear. I mostly use this product with makeup but you can use it with or without. I originally bought this product from Sephora then I saw it in a TJ Max and I couldn't believe it but jumped to buy at a discount. Okay, first of all, this is the BEST makeup primer I've ever used. I use this on top of my SPF (Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen) and right before my foundation and I must say, it is a GAME-CHANGER. I have the oiliest skin ever and my foundation ALWAYS creases after an hour on my smile lines and this virtually STOPED that in it's tracks. I wore this all day under my mask with my Armani Luminous Silk foundation and my skin looked absolutely flawless all day. It goes on very hydrating and really grips the foundation. The key to this product is to not over-do it. I started off using a full dropper of this and that ended up making my makeup too tacky to put powder on top, it also oxidized my foundation. Make sure to use about 2-3 small drops, enough to cover your whole face, and make sure to allow it to settle in before applying your foundation. It literally adds a blurring effect under foundation, my pores look smaller, my texture is diminished and my foundation doesn't settle in my fine lines anymore. I can see this being great for dry-skin types as it's very hydrating, but then it's also amazing for oily skin types like me. I feel it's a very universal product and definitely worth a try if you have the same skin concerns as I did! I will be using this for the rest of my life lol.CarmenValentina

I am new to primer and wasn’t sure what to expect but it has quickly turned into a daily must for me. I love a natural look and don’t always wear make up, so I love that I can opt for using this primer alone when I was more than just moisturizer but not in the mood for full make up. It subtly smooths my fine lines and pores for a fresh complexion that looks like my skin with a bit of a filter. It’s also great under both liquid and mineral foundation. I love that it is versatile and wears well on my skin for any look I’m into any given day. This will be my go to from now on. I received this sample to review as I was in the market for a primer. Absolutely love it! It glides on the skin like silk. Your foudation application is smoother than without the primer. As I have been suing everyday since .. I did the makeup without the primer one day and noticed a difference. I use it everyday prior to my mornign makeup but not at night. What bI love mosr is the primer plus a serum in one product . And it is affordable . Too many times you try a product but cannot afford to buy again to incorporate in your daily routine. Dont expect miracles as it is not a miracle cure, but if you are looking for a greeat afforable addition to your makeup routine. this is a great choice! I love love love the Loreal age perfection blurring face primer!! It will always be my go to for blurring effect!! It does a fabulous job ! I’m 53 my face has always had a beautiful complexion but as i have aged i have noticed an increase of pore size and redness. This does a fabulous job covering pores ! Blurs the red some but it does give a great complexion. Of course minus the wrinkles~ which the only thing to fix those is needle work lol !! Or knife work😂 anyways love this product !!!jessica

This was my first time using a 16 hour primer and I must say it was a good product for an 80° weather in Florida. Before heading to the Disney park, I wanted to do a full-face for cute photos. After I applied less than a dime-size of the primer to my face, I followed my full-face procedure. My make up was still up and going (even after spending time in the sun, waiting in lines for attractions, walking around the park) from 10AM until I took it off around 9PM. Although I did not test the primer to see if it would work for 16 hours, I feel confident that my full face make up would have continued to stay on unless I were to have somehow smudged it. In terms of creating a smoother skin surface look, I think it did a decent job. It wasn’t able to completely cover a small acne bump, but you could hardly tell it’s there. For reference, I have combination skin. Throughout the day, I did not feel any oiliness build up. I used NARS sheer foundation. The matte based primer reduce the sheerness but I did not mind. The pictures attached shows the areas that reflect the liquid highlighter I applied on my face. Good luck!cindy.n

I liked how this product smelled and felt. It was very silky feeling however I felt like I had to use a lot more product than I have with other primers I’ve tried. I have very large pores and didn’t feel like this minimized then at all but with how large my pores are there’s really nothing that does actually minimize them that I found so I’m not sure if I can hold that against this product. This product says it is mattifying which I found was mattifying immediately after application, especially in the T-zone but after several hours my skin appeared shinier than it did before I applied any primer at all. This primer did not work well for my skin but it may work better for someone else and I appreciate the opportunity to get to try it.jessica .w

I've been using the "Colorstay Grip Matte Primer" for a few weeks now. It's very easy to apply with a gentle squeeze applicator and a little goes a long way. It spreads well over my face and only requires a little amount. I found that my foundation went on very smoothly after using the primer and I needed less foundation than usual. I felt that my foundation covered my imperfections very easily and very thoroughly after using the "Colorstay Grip Matte Primer". This primer is very matte and would really be really beneficial for those with an oily complexion but is still suitable for other skin types too, It is also very reasonably priced and will definitely be a valuable addition to my daily make-up routine now.Wendy_c

Saw that Minsco uses this so decided to give it a try 🙂 Blurs pores, hides skin texture and flaky skin, controls oil, and works with so many of my foundation bases (even the ones that are usually troublesome with primers). Has a silicone-y feel but dries down to a powdery finish. I've used so many primers (e.g. smashbox, hourglass, dear dahlia, benefit) that left me feeling like I could go without it, but this one is "The One" for me. I always thought primers were unnecessary cause it never made my makeup look any better or stay any longer, but this one's the one that changed my mind 🙂Nabilah
