20 Best Facial Scrubs For Acne Prone Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

I normally use the first original face wash but Ulta was out so I bought this bc the benzoyl peroxide products are the only ones that help my acne without crazy drying my face out. I noticed the day after I used it I had a pimple popping up so I still used it the following night and then it just kept getting worse! Like giant boil looking pimples that I do not normally have! (Day 8 of using so I just washed with regular play cleanser tonight) pretty sure it's the proactiv + causing this reaction. I'll stick with the original proactiv face washJessica

Proactive is just a bit too harsh if you ask me. It irritated my skin and I might have had an allergic reaction to it. It definitely did not help me but made my skin worse. I tried origins after this many years ago and I got far superior results and would get so many compliments on my skin. Proactive is a hard pass for me. This is an amazing cleanser! It helps my skin so much. I like Proactiv plus a lot because it is gentle but gets the job done. Before I found Proactive plus, I went from cleanser to cleanser looking for a product that actually worked. I spent so much money on the other hyped companies and they only made my skin worse. I love everything about this product. I've always had difficulties with using exfoliating scrubs and masks because many are too thick, gritty and abrasive, or the contrary–too weak and ineffectual. This product is just the right amount of texture to provide a smooth polish and it also hydrates and gives my 45 year old skin a smooth glow. It also rinses off quickly and cleanly without leaving any residue or particles. I was really amazed to notice such a visible result the first time I used it. I don't typically follow a regimented facial routine, so I end up using it whenever I notice my skin needs a brightening and smoothing polish, and it always delivers. I have purchased this for the first time, having used lots of Mario Badescu products for quite a while now. I like a nice, effective but gentle exfoliator for my skin, particular around areas where I am prone to the occasional ingrown hair which can cause the odd breakout. This product is lovely – smells fresh, has a good size granual that feels natural and gives a lovely 'deep cleanse' feel to my skin. I just use it a couple times a week, and I can see that it takes off any surface dryness and my face feels brighter and clearer after use. You don't need to use much. I follow this with the MB Aloe Toner which is also very gentle and soothing. I will continue using this product, I'm very happy with it after about 3 weeks use so far.Chelebelle14

They recently changed formulas. The old formula worked wonders for my acne prone and sensitive skin. It was gentle, didn’t have a strong smell, gentle exfoliation, and didn’t completely dry my face out. My skin was soothed but the acne was taken care of. The NEW formula is awful. My skin is starting to break out again, I get headaches from the smell, and it is too strong of an exfoliant. It scratches my face, so I can barely scrub with my face wash. Please bring back the old formula Burt’s Bees! You all had a wonderful formula before that didn’t need to be changed.Mb123

This Natural Acne Solutions Deep Cleansing Scrub is a nice product to help clean with the micro abrasives. It also has a punch of salicylic acid to help minimize breakouts. So far it has worked as expected like similar products. I have noticed that the scrubbing ability does not work very well on my beard, but feels great on my exposed skin. The micro size of the cleaners seems to be very beneficial for helping skin stay beautiful. I did not really like the scent of the cleanser at first, I still am unsure as what to think about it. It is not as off-putting as before, but I think I just cannot place the scent. It almost smells like ground up dirt and flowers, but on the very earthy side. This is the best cleansing scrub I have ever use! I will be purchasing this again in the future. Super affordable. This cleanser really gets into those pores and cleans out all of the dirt and everything from your day. Afterwards, my face gets that cleansing feeling like my whole day just got washed away. I love this product! I use is on days where my skin feels particularly groggy or clogged up and it is perfect for my oily and spot prone skin. I bought it from Boots a while ago and you really don't need much to wash your face with, I pump a small 10p size amount on my fingertips and massage into my wet face and it works into a lather. It has a slight gel feel to it but still lathers up well. It also has a really tingly minty feeling on your skin and I wouldn't recommend getting it close to your eyes (think strong minty toothpaste) I concentrate on my chin and neck and work a little bit up into my temples and forehead. I then pump another tiny bit to massage into my cheeks and nose. I leave it on for a few minutes on my face to work in before rinsing off. It really helps to clear out any impurities and leaves my skin feeling so fresh and clear but not too drying. It leaves a very cold tingly feeling but it doesn't last long and your face feels so much softer and clearer immediately. I really like the pump on the bottle as it makes it a lot easier to use and you can easily pump out as little as you need without spilling and wasting any product. I would definitely recommend, especially if you have the same skin problems as I do and I will definitely be buying again!t’anay.s

I really love this product. I've been using it for several months now. I do have combination skin, slightly oily, sensitive and sometimes patchy and dry. Even though this product does contain acid it doesn't cause me any irritation and it helps keep breakouts away. It also exfoliates well and leaves my skin soft and smooth. I use is around 4 times a week. It is more pricey that some of the other products available but I really feel it's worth paying abit more for this brand as it does work.Lily

I have oily combination skin with lots of blackheads and big pores. So I like using a daily scrub that doesn't make me red after using and helps keep oil away. I've used this once but I definitely like that it's a soft scrub, nothing like a sugar scrub or coffee. Just light beads and I just keep adding a little water to my fingers to scrub it in. Afterwards my face felt clean, didn't leave me red which is huge for me. I was using cliniques scrub but after finding out they still test on animals I had to ditch it. I've been using this for a few months on my combination acne prone skin. I use a little every night with a plain oil cleanse and I think it helps to keep away dry patches of skin. I don't think it causes any acne flare ups. I can't seem to use products on my face that contain anything coconut oil related but, this product has been working good.Artsy&natural

And there's always so much leftover that has to be thrown away. This is the worst mask I think I've ever used. I initially liked the feel of it as I was smearing on my face. And it was all fine while it set. But peeling it off was a nightmare! I have dry sensitive skin so I'm always wary of scrubs but I'd had some great luck with these products, especially the charcoal mud mask so I was excited to try it. The scrub was really gentle and the warming effect was nice, plus the scrubber was awesome, like a budget clarasonic. Unfortunately the dispenser clogs easily and having to dismantle it to clean it out is a pain plus the nozzle clicks open and closed and that part broke on me after about 3-4 uses. I'd love for them to redesign the packaging and still keep the scrubber because that's the best part. Anyone remember that old L'Oréal scrub that came with a little scrub brush? I’ve been using this for over 5 years. I’m in my 40s and still had adult acne, and this has cleared up my skin like nothing else I’ve used. The smell doesn’t bother me like other reviewers, it smells good to me. I love the feeling of this creamy scrub, and my skin never feels dry or taught, it feels healthy and normal. My only complaints are they recently raised their price and the label on this is horrible. I keep this in my shower but out of direct water contact and the label still starts to flake off and there’s little black pieces from the label all over my shower. This little guy is actually a pretty decent exfoliator. The African black soap line is a pretty good line, especially for problematic skin. I usually don't use drugstore due to ingredients (read your labels) but African black soap is a natural remedy for problematic skin. This exfoliator should be used no more than 3 times a week. Over exfoliating can cause irritation and more acne. I have the African black soap, This exfoliator, and the mask, and when used all together consistently, you will get more balanced skin. Though this doesn't "cure" acne, it will help prevent more acne from appearing. I use this exfoliator about twice a week with my other skincare (Pixi, Mario Bedoscu) and my skin has never been in better condition, and I'm 28. If your looking for something to balance your skin, and prevent acne, this little guy is a good choice. If your looking for all your acne to go away, this will probably not be enough. Read ingredients carefully when purchasing skincare people. Skincare brands purposely put ingredients like (Mineral oil, dimethicone) which block pores in their skincare to cause more irritation, hence forcing you to purchase more. If skincare brands made miracle skincare products, they would go out of business. Coming from an oily, 28 year old with HUGE pores, and closed comedones (flesh colored bumps under the skin) your best bet is to watch what your putting on your face. I wanted to like this a lot since it’s “natural” and has raving reviews, but it just wasn’t for me. Skin always feels so soft after each use, but it also feels like there is a layer of some kind on the skin. Maybe it’s the Shea butter or Coconut? That’s another thing, I don’t like coconut on my face as it’s highly comedogenic! I don’t like anything that clogs pores. I have enough issues with my pores. This is a gentle exfoliant. This product isn’t going to offer intense exfoliation, but instead has a clearly, lotion-like consistency with some strawberry seeds in the mix. It smells lovely and natural when you first buy it and open it, but it goes bad and doesn’t smell good if you open it, but don’t use it up within a month, or so. The problem is that it is in a jar that you have to dip into to get the product, so it’s not ideal for keeping it fresh. It would be better in a tube, maybe? If you get a jar of this that smells bad or off, it probably isn’t fresh and you should seek a refund. Overall I don’t actually think this is actually worth purchasing if you are looking for an once-in-awhile exfoliating scrub. I didn’t repurchase after buying once jar. Definitely not what I expected, I bought this product as an exfoliate her even after hearing all the bad rep that this brand has gotten I still thought I would try it. I forgetting at home and opening it I noticed it did smell very nice but I almost had the consistency of a clay mask which I wasn't mad at. When I actually using this product I noticed they were very large chunks of what I'm assuming or almond considering it's an almond and honey scrub and it really didn't do much exfoliating. It honestly didn't do much of anything my skin did feel soft after use but I have a feeling that's just from the almond and honey in the product in a creamy consistency but as far as exfoliating goes I really don't think it does much as an exfoliator. I've always been true to St.Ives scrub as a way to exfoliate and prevent blemishes. But after their formula changes and complaints I noticed my skin took a turn for the worst. I've been eyeing this brand for months and finally decided to give it a try and this is the best scrub I ever used: It lightens dark spots , clears up blackheads and helps prevent blemishes all in one! It's not really abrasive but you truly get a deep exfoliated feel and the plus is your skin is moisturized!The smell is fruity and I'm officially an OKAY Pure Naturals person now. 2nd scrub from Okay I have tried. I gotta say I really enjoyed this more than the cinnamon brown sugar one. The smell is pleasant. You can smell the lemon and sweet smell of the sugar. In comparison to the other scrub felt this scrub felt gentler when applied. Felt smoother and not as coarse. According to back label bar it provides a deeper clean. So glad I came across this product at walmart one day and I've been using it ever since. I have extremely difficult hyperpigmentation marks I've had for years nothing helped I've spent a ton with other products and everything made it worse or had no improvement. I just love so many of the Aveeno brand products to be honest….but, Their skincare line is definitely where I spent the majority of the money i spend overall on this popular brand. One can never truly go wrong when choosing to add Aveeno to their skincare routine! And thats the truth! While i have used multiple products from their skincare line , I tend to prefer the 'Positively Radiant' line. I love the results I get when using the daily scrub and the moisturizer together in my skincare routine every day. The scrub itself is so gentle on the skin yet it effectively rejuvenates my appearance to perfection each n every time I use it. I can see the positive results when i use this cleansing scrub about 2 days out of the week as my exfoliator. I am always feeling much more confident on the days when ive exfoliated using the Positively Radiant scrub because i can literally see the brand new and bright skin on my face and neck area once i complete my morning skincare routine on these couple days out of every week that i incorporate this must-have product in said routine. Pretty much all aspects of my skincare routine change up here n there after several months of using one of the same products in any one of the multi-step routine for daily skincare. But for almost 2 years straight now, ive continued to use Aveenos Positively Radiant scrub as my exfoliator twice each week in order to get all those dulling dead skin cells off of my face thus revealing an absolutely POSITIVELY impeccable looking face when i finish my daily morning routine on these days! To my surprise, the exfoliating beads are very, very small. They almost feel like crushed rice balls (if that makes any sense) much smaller and gentler than sugar. And their smooth round edges prevent them from creating micro-tears in the skin Aveeno's scrub product is so light, my face doesn't feel tight, because it doesn't dry out my skin. It is oil-free so I don't get that oily feeling either. My face doesn't necessarily feel silky smooth because I don't think it is loaded with silicone but my face just feels like skin. As for the brightening effect, when you're face is clean it will always look bright. This is not going to single-handedly fade your dark spots but getting rid of the dead skin on the surface of your face will help your overall appearance. Just letting the beads do their job. I know you might feel the need to press into the skin as you exfoliate but it is really not necessary, it is a top no-no, because doing so can damage the skin. Because it is so gentle, I am able to use it 2-3 times a week. It has become an integral part of my weekly night routine before I actually cleanse my face. I have been using this silky smooth exfoliate for a few weeks now. It has proven to be efficient at removing the dirt without interfering with my skin barrier. I love that I can apply it to wet or dry skin and then remove it with just warm water. It is not abrasive, but creamy. It is noncomedogenic and does not clog my pores. I received this Aveeno Calm & restore nourishing PHA facial Exfoliator to try and review. I am so glad I did! The product has no scent, which is very nice since I am sensitive to smells. The product is light weight & is not greasy. It goes onto my skin smoothly & does not have that "sandy" feeling like other exfoliators do where they feel like you are scrubbing your face with sandpaper. This product feels like you are applying a very light weight lotion to your face, VERY nice & calming! I’ve been using this every other day for a few weeks now, and it’s not for me. I have oily skin, and even using this every other day, the amount of alcohol this face wash dried out my skin to the point where I have peeling in some areas. I also have an issue with acne from PCOS, and normally can get it under control with Clinique Pep Start scrub and Target brand benzoyl peroxide spot treatment. For the most part, I have very minimal acne and breakouts using those products. So I expected a acne fighting face wash to deliver the same or better results as what I was currently using… which is why I gave it a try. Unfortunately that’s not the case. Using the Differin scrub, I had more pimples per breakout and much longer breakouts. There are still some large cystic acne spots I had developed during the first few days of using the Differin scrub that have not gone away weeks later… to include on my body, not just my face, as I use scrub on my face and upper body. I had to stop using the Differin as of yesterday because I personally think it’s making my acne worse. I give the product 2 stars because I do think it’s a good chemical exfoliant. It left my skin very smooth, and it did instantly brighten as claimed. But as I said before, the extreme dryness and more intense acne that just won’t go away, this product is not for me. I also can’t recommend it as I do feel it is the Differin product affecting my skin like this since it’s the only thing I changed in my routine. It’s unfortunate that I’m not better with photos, but the large acne spots you can see are the ones I’ve had for weeks since I started using the scrub. There’s also quite a bit of smaller acne stuck under the skin that isn’t showing up well on photos, and I’m surprised the chemical exfoliant hadn’t taken care of that, but it stands to reason that something else is aggravating my skin more.amanda.s

Within 2 weeks I had such good results with Differin gel that I bought the night time moisturizer, the SPF sunscreen, and this exfoliator. What a great system! I use this in the shower. It is creamy and soft and non-drying. My face feels smooth and clean and is a perfect canvas for the Differin gel once I dry off. It seems incredible that in my sixties I still deal with adult acne. I bought this to try since I ran out of my other exfoliating cleanser. I use it about once a week and I really like how the cleanser that the microbeads are in leaves a deep cleansing feeling too. After using this my skin looks a lot brighter and even-toned. It washes away without leaving any residue. It does has a very odd chemical smell to it, so that’s my only complaint. I've only used the Tea Tree line which helped with my oily skin. But I noticed I needed something with more umph to help with bumps on my face. I ordered this based off the reviews I've read and decided to try it out. The worst that can happen is it messes up my face right!? WRONG!! It makes my face so soft!! The oil on my face has reduced so I don't feel so slimy on hot days. I know gross. It smells amazing and it doesn't dry out my face. I still use my Tea Tree moisturizer and my face doesn't feel sticky or look shiny. My pores look reduced to a decent size. I have big pores and get a lot of yuck and under skin bumps. But this face wash is a God send. It helped clear out a constellation of pimples on my forehead. Yay! But definitely will be getting more of this. I just wish they made a larger bottle!! I have very sensitive skin, but also have problems with oil and blemishes. I have used many exfoliators over the years, and every single one of them dried my skin out and made it feel way too sensitive. This one does not! It made my skin smoother, half of my blackheads disappear, and did not leave my skin red in just the first use. Because my skin is so sensitive, I will only be using this product once a week or so, but I really do love it! The bottle was smaller than I had expected, but a little goes a long way. I use the seaweed mask from the same line, and the smell between the two products is not comparable. The exfoliator does not have a strong smell at all, and I would feel comfortable using it before going out and not worrying about whether or not I smell like the sea. 🙂NaturalKat

I actually bought this because of a video on Tabitha Brown's youtube on her skin care regimen. Her skin is flawless and I had been in search of a good cleanser and moisturizer. I must say this product is amazing! You only need a little drop of it and it goes a long way. It leaves my skin super soft to the touch. It gently exfoliates and does not feel abrasive at all. I enjoy the scent as well and find that I have been washing my face longer than usual because I love how it feels while I'm rubbing in on. I had the opportunity to test out the Olay Regenerist Detoxifying Pore Scrub Face Wash over the past week and I had a really enjoyable experience. I have always been a loyal fan of Olay products, specifically the regenerist line from Olay but I have never tested out any of the cleansing products from Olay so I was excited to have the opportunity to do so. Upon receiving the product, I first noticed how sleek the packaging was. I am particularly fan of design of the tube as I am not a fan of pumping products. I loved that the closure was secure enough that I felt as though I could easily travel with the product. As I was testing out a face scrub, I swapped it out for my go-to-product in my normal skincare routine. This meant that I used the product every other day as to not overly strip my face. With that in mind, I was surprised that the product didn't leave my skin overly dry as my usual product does. The product was surprisingly smooth for a face scrub. It still had texture to it and it still buffed off dry patches leaving your skin soft and smooth, but it didn't feel rough to use. Especially as someone who typically prefers a chemical exfoliant, I was happy that I found this product to use as a physical exfoliant. I would say that if you lean to a more oily skin type, you might be able to use this product everyday. Overall, I would definitely continue to use this on a regular basis! I think it acts as a good addition to my skincare routine and I can already see an improvement in the brightness and smoothness of my skin! I'm excited to see continued progress!Keisha2731

The Olay Regenerist Detoxifying Pore Scrub Cleanse gently, yet thoroughly, cleans the skin to reveal beautifully, glowing skin that's super clean along with noticeably minimized pores as well. In addition, this lovely facial scrub/cleanse doesn't strip away the natural oils in your skin, so you're left with skin that is never dry and/or tight after using. I've been using this product for about a week now and I always enjoy how clean, soft, and vibrant my skin looks afterwards. I've noticed a visible difference in my pores after using several times. I'm looking forward to seeing more improvement with continued use given the fact that my pores are already shrinking! In addition, this facial scrub/cleanse does have some fragrance that I consider to be noticeable, yet quite lovely. It's not overpowering, but if you are very sensitive to fragrances, you may want to keep that in mind, because I can still smell it after washing & rinsing; although, it is what I consider subtle. Again, a facial scrub/cleanse that deeply cleans the skin to remove all traces of makeup, dirt, & grime while also working to minimize your pores, as well as leaving you with soft & vibrant skin, is a big win in terms of facial scrubs & cleansers! They last couple tubes I had barely squeezed out of the tube, but they were still minty. The newest tube I bought smelled like rancid oil broke me out and had no menthol. So I exchanged it thinking it was just an old tube. Nope same disgusting rancid crayon type smell, unsqueezable, and barely scrubs. So I thought I'd order from Clinique directly and see every one else's reviews. Why on earth would you change a perfect product? I'll return the new tube and look for something else I guess, but I will ALWAYS miss this product. It was a perfect match for my skin and gave me the best results while being enjoyable to use. Very very very disappointed. I can't see myself using any Clinique products in the future.Bobbi

I LOVE this product! I have gone through so many trying to find one similar, and NONE come close! Has the PERFECT amount of little gritty scrubbies for deep clean feeling. Could dry out your skin if used too often or you don't naturally have oily skin, or without a moisturizer. The only downside I can say is that Clinique products are only sold at select stores, and a little on the expensive side. But after using it, It's worth the $. Everyone has certain things they love and can't be substituted, this is one of those items for me. I have BAD breakouts more as an adult than ALL of my teen years combined, I think due to hormone levels.. if you're wanting a good facial scrub with the nitty-grittys like soft sandpaper 😉 ..it gently removes that layer of yuck you don't want and leaves your skin soft, smooth, and CLEAN.❤️❤️❤️Primrose

I am really enjoying this stress control power clear scrub. It works with my sensitive skin and I love how refreshed my skin feels ready for bed with my nighttime moisturizer. This formula I think is a very good happy medium between too rough and too soft it is very creamy and light easy to blend in and gives me a nice exfoliation without drying out my skin. Acne scrubs specifically are tough for me because they usually irritate, dry, and break out my skin which is just a frustration, but this stress control scrub is just right. And because it is such a smooth consistency I can really take my time and work it into my skin in circular motions getting to where I usually breakout chin and jawline to name a few, those tricky places. I have not experienced any negative reactions and it keeps my skin smooth and taken care of for the week. So as I am treating my skin with some medicine I am also giving myself a blast of fresh cleaning my pores. I really feel like this product helps give me that all over clean and keep my skin in a good place. The cucumber and soothers are great too. Clean skin is happy skin. YES, I plan to buy this again. This is my favorite budget exfoliator. It is gentle, but effective. This has glycolic acid salicylic acid. Glycolic acid is a chemical exfoliants that is anti-aging. Salicylic acid is a chemical exfoliant that clears up helps prevent blackheads. I use this in the shower and leave it on for a few minutes as a scrub + mask. That way I get maximum benefit from the glycolic acid. This is a great scrub for all skin types. For real acne sufferers I would suggest using a mask with benzoyl peroxide. Physical chemical exfoliants can agravate acne and cause inflammation. If you suffer from acne, then make sure you take a good daily probiotic. Wash your pillow cases often. Focus on products that are anti-inflammatory and have natural antiseptic/anti-bacterial properties. Less is more. I hope this helps some people suffering with acne:)yorleny.a

This scrub is good to use for acne maybe 2 times a week. Anymore than that, it makes my face dry and irritated. Overall it does an okay job. I have been using it for over a year on and off in between other face washes and it doesn't really do much for my acne. The ingredients in it look a bit sus. Salicylic acid is great for acne, however whatever else is in this product may not be so great. It also has a weird over powering smell. If you are looking for a back up acne scrub this is okay but for long term use, it may not do too much for your face. It's not the worst out there but I would probably recommend something else.bree.h
