20 Best Facial Scrubs For Black Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

Before i started using this i never had a problem with acne or having consistent pimples. I bought this, used it, and I'll admit, my skin felt so clean after each, use but over time the super intense grit of the exfoliant TORE up my skin. It was like i was getting open wounds from it because it was so gritty and sharp. After months of wondering why i started breaking out so bad i realized that this was just cutting up my face and the bacteria getting trapped in my skin turned into horrible cystic acne. It has taken me 2 years to get my skin close to what it was before, but after all the emotional strife that came from destroying my skin barrier and getting bad acne for the first time ever in my 20's, i would not recommend this to anyone. Unbelievable scrub. So gentle to my face, the ingredients are super nutrients I feel my skin softer after each used. Sometimes I even leave it on after scrub and treat it like a masks. I’ve been using this for over 5 years. I’m in my 40s and still had adult acne, and this has cleared up my skin like nothing else I’ve used. The smell doesn’t bother me like other reviewers, it smells good to me. I love the feeling of this creamy scrub, and my skin never feels dry or taught, it feels healthy and normal. My only complaints are they recently raised their price and the label on this is horrible. I keep this in my shower but out of direct water contact and the label still starts to flake off and there’s little black pieces from the label all over my shower. This little guy is actually a pretty decent exfoliator. The African black soap line is a pretty good line, especially for problematic skin. I usually don't use drugstore due to ingredients (read your labels) but African black soap is a natural remedy for problematic skin. This exfoliator should be used no more than 3 times a week. Over exfoliating can cause irritation and more acne. I have the African black soap, This exfoliator, and the mask, and when used all together consistently, you will get more balanced skin. Though this doesn't "cure" acne, it will help prevent more acne from appearing. I use this exfoliator about twice a week with my other skincare (Pixi, Mario Bedoscu) and my skin has never been in better condition, and I'm 28. If your looking for something to balance your skin, and prevent acne, this little guy is a good choice. If your looking for all your acne to go away, this will probably not be enough. Read ingredients carefully when purchasing skincare people. Skincare brands purposely put ingredients like (Mineral oil, dimethicone) which block pores in their skincare to cause more irritation, hence forcing you to purchase more. If skincare brands made miracle skincare products, they would go out of business. Coming from an oily, 28 year old with HUGE pores, and closed comedones (flesh colored bumps under the skin) your best bet is to watch what your putting on your face. Now that I look at ingredients, my face has never looked better, almost a clear face, and I've never had a clear face. When you pay attention to ingredients, it does a world of good. I wanted to like this a lot since it’s “natural” and has raving reviews, but it just wasn’t for me. Skin always feels so soft after each use, but it also feels like there is a layer of some kind on the skin. Maybe it’s the Shea butter or Coconut? That’s another thing, I don’t like coconut on my face as it’s highly comedogenic! I don’t like anything that clogs pores. I have enough issues with my pores. This is a gentle exfoliant. So gentle that I don’t believe it’s exfoliating anything. After using this, my face don’t feel clean.. feels like I added products on my face instead of “scrubbing”. This is a must! It has the right size of exfoliating agents to get the job done. My skin feels so amazing, soft, and clears up any rough, dry patches. I love this! The scent is soft and delightful. This product brightens my skin and day every time I use it. I should note I don't have sensitive skin or acne. I do have dry to combinations skin. Now there are a couple things I've noticed. You MUST make sure you tighten that lid after ever use. Because I noticed the times I didn't, it formed a dry layer on top, but a tad bit of water took care of that. I just started using this facial scrub. It is only my 2nd time using in a week and my face feels much smoother than before. It has a nice lemon scent like lemon meringue pie. The micro crystals used in the light cream base are very small and non-irritating to my sensitive skin. Found this to be highly-effective after rubbing gently into my face in circular motion for 1 minute. After rinsing off with warm water, there is a noticeable difference as it gets rid of dead skin cells and leaves my face pink from the scrubbing. Be sure to follow with an alcohol-free toner like witch hazel so does not sting and will soothe your skin, followed by serum, and night time moisturizer that is heavier. I'm doing this twice a week like recommended and at night before bed. Highly-recommend. A little pricey at 29.99 at Ulta, but worth it and should last a good while.patrice.m

I'm so in love with this one!! I wish I could use it every day! I have semi sensitive skin and exfoliators tend to irritate me more often than not. But this one is so gentle and made my skin feel so amazing!! It is probably the most gentle exfoliant I've ever used but it worked so well. Since winter set in my skin has been dry and flakey. I have extremely dry, sensitive and reactive skin that I have tried to help with retinols and chemical exfoliants that didn't help or just made my dryness worse and caused hives. I bought this for my mom on a trip to sephora and tried it a few times when I would go visit and since my skin didn't react that was a huge plus. It's pricey so I was hesitant but bought a trial size to test out. Well using this with my new less pricey finds, the ordinary squalene and cerave moisturizer has been the best routine I've had since I was in my early 20s, I'm now 40. I just bought a large size after being without for about a week and I've noticed a difference in my dryness and overall glow. A little goes a long way. My trial size lasted me a long time and I used mostly everyday. I also feel like this helps my cerave cleanser to get all the makeup off since the cleanser is super gentle. I’ve had this product for a year now and I use it here and there for facial exfoliation, but have never really noticed too much of a difference, I’ve not been really wowed, until recently. I recently had a sunburn and it’s completely healed up but I’ve had some stubborn dry skin on my chest that I just could not get to go away. Finally, as like a last ditch “what the heck” option, I decided to try this product and see if it would help, and just wow. When I tell you it got every thing off and completely cleared my dry skin issue on my chest with just one application I am not kidding. I’ve never left a review before but I was so stunned by the results and difference in my skin with just one application. I love all the Nip and Fab scrubs, and this one is no exception. I like using this one in the morning to wake me up. The scent is citrussy and awakening as you can imagine, and it really does a great job of smoothing out your skin and getting rid of any build up. Clinique were one of the first companies to make a line geared at men. One of Cliniques strengths is that for the main part they have remained fragrance free which is quite an achievement in the industry. It is a popular line and not without good reason but seems very pedestrian in many ways with boring formulas and packaging with large type face in case a man doesnt know his face wash from his face scrub. Back in the nineties when I used it, it seemed exciting and they released a Turnaround Lotion which was very effective. Then, you also had a series of creams from the womens line which you could use like Moisture On Call, Moisture On Line and Comfort On Call. All excellent creams. Now the mens line originally called Skin Supplies For Men is a pale version of the womens line. Its pretty unisex and men tend to use products from the womens line anyway. Now it seems that the mens line is as boring as the packaging. The pros of the line is that they are simple and fragrance free. But you might find yourself look elsewhere for ones that do a little more for your skin. The threestep system in the mens line is similar to the womens, but the Exfoliating Tonics which are similar to the Clarifying Lotions in the womens line, contain more SD alcohol so I would tread carefully there. The Face Scrub is much grittier than I remember it from memory and unlike the original one have Clinique tweaked it you dont have the option of leaving it on the skin for a minute or two like you used to. This scrub has the consistency of sand and is gritty and much less of a paste than it used to be. The packaging is wasteful as most of the product resides in half the tube. You can certainly feel it working and the skin is left very fresh after rinsing off. But I wouldnt recommend using this everyday as suggested. Its far too strong unless you have very oily skin in which case I would suggest you do not forgo the lotion afterwards. I used Clinique back in the early 90s when I was new to the whole serious skin care approach. Prior to this I had enjoyed vitamin E creams from the local health store which you sadly cannot find anymore So this was my first foray into department store brands and when I got past the price I liked the regime although it took me a while to get used to the M Lotion as it was then called because it was such a runny and seemingly ineffectual product. Sticking to the regime gave me good skin but I ran into trouble which I now see as simply being products that were too harsh for my skin. Namely the Scruffing Lotion now the skin tonics. Now I would recommend bypassing all the Clarifying Lotions and Tonics and going for the Mild Clarifying Lotion which is a BHA exfoliant and contains Salicilic Acid and is much gentler primarily because it does not contain SD Alcohol denatured alcohol. I wouldnt recommend using SD Alcohol on a daily basis. Oh no. Evidently a few of Cliniques products overstimulated my skin and I actually developed a cyst. The Face Scrub is in keeping with the aggressive approach that is still evident in some of Cliniques products. Its a good product but should be handled with care because after a couple of weeks of use twice a week it left my skin feeling a bit parched. Clinique is a good brand but choose carefully from their line. Keep their stronger items to a minimum. Pros fragrance free, simple, effective results fast. My husband loves to get down and dirty doing his manly and country style things. He loves to live up being a man and therefore thinks that skin care is so feminine that he doesnt wanna bother. I got a deluxe sized sample to see if its something hed consider trying because I have him a hint that it was FREE. he used it everyday by accident being the man he is and not really reading the directions. Hes clueless in skin care. His skin is sensitive and this dis not break him out. He fell in love with this product and just uses it once to twice a week while showering and his skin feels nice and smooth. I've always been true to St.Ives scrub as a way to exfoliate and prevent blemishes. But after their formula changes and complaints I noticed my skin took a turn for the worst. I've been eyeing this brand for months and finally decided to give it a try and this is the best scrub I ever used: It lightens dark spots , clears up blackheads and helps prevent blemishes all in one! 2nd scrub from Okay I have tried. I gotta say I really enjoyed this more than the cinnamon brown sugar one. The smell is pleasant. You can smell the lemon and sweet smell of the sugar. In comparison to the other scrub felt this scrub felt gentler when applied. Felt smoother and not as coarse. According to back label bar it provides a deeper clean. So glad I came across this product at walmart one day and I've been using it ever since. I have extremely difficult hyperpigmentation marks I've had for years nothing helped I've spent a ton with other products and everything made it worse or had no improvement. I received this Aveeno Calm & restore nourishing PHA facial Exfoliator to try and review. I am so glad I did! The product has no scent, which is very nice since I am sensitive to smells. The product is light weight & is not greasy. It goes onto my skin smoothly & does not have that "sandy" feeling like other exfoliators do where they feel like you are scrubbing your face with sandpaper. This product feels like you are applying a very light weight lotion to your face, VERY nice & calming! I've only used the Tea Tree line which helped with my oily skin. But I noticed I needed something with more umph to help with bumps on my face. I ordered this based off the reviews I've read and decided to try it out. The worst that can happen is it messes up my face right!? WRONG!! It makes my face so soft!! The oil on my face has reduced so I don't feel so slimy on hot days. I know gross. It smells amazing and it doesn't dry out my face. I still use my Tea Tree moisturizer and my face doesn't feel sticky or look shiny. My pores look reduced to a decent size. I have big pores and get a lot of yuck and under skin bumps. I have very sensitive skin, but also have problems with oil and blemishes. I have used many exfoliators over the years, and every single one of them dried my skin out and made it feel way too sensitive. This one does not! It made my skin smoother, half of my blackheads disappear, and did not leave my skin red in just the first use. Because my skin is so sensitive, I will only be using this product once a week or so, but I really do love it! The bottle was smaller than I had expected, but a little goes a long way. I use the seaweed mask from the same line, and the smell between the two products is not comparable. I actually bought this because of a video on Tabitha Brown's youtube on her skin care regimen. Her skin is flawless and I had been in search of a good cleanser and moisturizer. I received the “L’Oreal Paris Pure Sugar Scrub Smooth & Glow” for free for test and review from Topbox Circle. At first glance, you don’t think anything of this scrub but wow, it totally blew me away with what it can really do. I liked how it’s encased in this tiny but heavy, glass jar. When you open it, the consistency looks quite thick and sticky looking but isn't sticky at all. The smell is amazing, like dark chocolate coffee syrup and I just wanted to eat it(but I didn't)! The application is pretty easy and you don’t need a whole lot. Make sure not to get it too close to your eyes as there are little granules in this scrub that could irritate your eyes. Immediately after applying, you’ll notice this amazing, warming sensation that spreads all over your face. The blend of sugars, coffee, oils felt so luscious against the skin. Use gentle circular motions around your face since the instructions say to use it on dry skin. If you do use it on damp skin or wet skin, it's not as effective because the sugar crystals would have dissolved leaving only the coffee grounds behind as an exfoliant. I'm glad that the blend of sweet almond and coconut oils help it be less abrasive. Rinses well with water revealing baby soft skin. My skin felt cleaner and smoother in just one use. It was perfectly fine for my sensitive skin. I’ve used this scrub, three times now and I love it so much! I had really rough textured skin between my eyebrows and now it feels so much smoother. I’ve used Loreal’s Pure Clay Face Masks in the past but I never stopped to try their scrubs. I’m going to have to check out their line of scrubs to see what else I can try. I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. I’ve been using this face lip scrub for a couple of weeks now, and I can honestly say that it’s a very interesting product. The first thing that hits you when you open this jar is the scent,… I mean, Holy Dark Roast, Batman!!! The coffee aroma is super strong and pungent, so if you’re not a fan of the smell of coffee, this isn’t for you… I personally enjoy the scent and found it to be a nice robust fragrance. This scrub also has a warming sensation as you apply it, so it’s ideal for a chilly winter morning wake-up call. As for the ingredients of the scrub itself, it’s mostly a mix of sugar and coffee grounds (don’t use a white washcloth to rinse this off, take it from me). The sugar granules were larger than I anticipated, which meant I had to be careful when massaging this scrub into my skin because it’s definitely on the rougher side of exfoliating products. After rinsing, my face looked radiant and smooth (albeit a little red LOL). I had the softest skin and felt ready to take on the day… However, I didn’t notice a real difference when using this scrub for my lips, so that was a tad disappointing… I think I’ll stick to using this for my face only. Overall, I enjoyed the scent and results of this scrub, but because it’s such an intense exfoliation I won’t find myself using it frequently… I also am disappointed that it’s advertised as a lip scrub as well, but didn’t actually prove to be effective for my lips. And the scrub itself is not too harsh and 100% leaves my skin better than before I used it. Its a little too liquidy when ypu use most of the scrub. You really gotta dig to the bottom to then pick up actually scrubbies. But its so worth it! I really love this product. I've been using it for several months now. I do have combination skin, slightly oily, sensitive and sometimes patchy and dry. Even though this product does contain acid it doesn't cause me any irritation and it helps keep breakouts away. It also exfoliates well and leaves my skin soft and smooth. BUY. THIS. PRODUCT. For starters, I got this product about 7 months ago. I used it about daily, and it lasted about 5-6 months for me. VERY EFFECTIVE! I would have oil on my face everyday about halfway through my day, and after ONE use of this, I didn't have any oil. I immediately noticed my breakouts lessened and went away after about 2 weeks, and they never came back. I loved the way this product would begin as a scrub and then go to a smooth finish, and would LITERALLY leave my skin SQUEAKY CLEAN. I've developed a dependency to this product in a way, as when I do not use it, my skin is very greasy. However, when I use this once at night and once in the morning, my skin always feels fresh and less oily. I have sensitive acne-prone skin, and I have mild hormonal acne. This does not irritate my skin. The only con that I have is the scent is a bit stinky at first, but I've gotten used to it. I used this product for about 2 months, and it works very well, and even removes makeup relatively well, but I still use makeup remover on my eyes to avoid getting it into my eyes. This winter has been super hard on my skin, i’ve gone from dry to crazy breakouts, it feels like a constant battle. During my last breakout I tried cleansing my skin with a bunch of different cleansers and nothing seemed to have worked. I found this Yesto charcoal cleanser that is supposed to clear up acne. After one use I already saw the difference. I’ve been using it the last couple of days and my skin seems to be getting better. Its not overly drying but leaves my skin feeling soft. I was however a little bit concerned by the plastic beads included in this product as they are not environment friendly. As I have also stated in other reviews, I found out that L'Oreal is not a cruelty-free company so I will not be buying this product again. I am actually very surprised by the immediate difference these two products made to my skin. My biggest complaint about my skin is it can tend to be a little pinkish and after my first night of using the toner, I woke up to a lovely even complexion. The Yerba mate exfoliate definitely left my skin red on the day I used it, but my skin was glowing. I think I will choose to use it at night going forward. Great treatment products!!! This is such an amazing chemical exfoliator. A lot of people think “chemical” means that it is harsher than a physical exfoliator (scrubs). This is totally the opposite, especially when you are talking about mandelic acid. It is one of the most gentle AHA’s and works for all skin types. *caution: mandelic acid is derived from almonds so if you have a nut allergy please do a patch test before using this all over your face.kristen.b

An amazing, natural facial cleanser. I have it with the scent of chocolate and mint and it is HEAVENLY! Has the perfect amount of exfoliant making it not too irritating or abrasive on the delicate skin on your face. I allow mine to sit on my face for about 2-3 minutes then washing off in Luke warm water and my face is so smooth and looks brighter! This company and product are my favourite ! I've been buying this scrub for a few years, but like another review, I've been dismayed by a change of formula. Unlike the other reviewer, my most recent batch is way *coarser*, not softer. It used to have fine abrasives, but my latest batch feels like it's got gravel in it. I worry it's damaging my skin to use. I wonder if they've got some quality control issues on the filtering for the abrasives, or maybe they've changed formula twice?hc42

Read the reviews saying its lost its exfoliating consistency but still decided to order as I've had no disappointment with any other nip+fab product. However after trying this for the first time not sure what these other reviews were on about! Maybe they changed their formula back after the criticisms but this is definitely a rough exfoliant, kind of the texture of fine sand, really scrubs off the dead skin without stripping any moisture/oils and works great in combo with the nip+fab moisturisers and serums. Haven't used it long term yet so can't speak on whether it gets rid of blackheads after prolonged regular use but it has really smoothed out my overall skin texture so far <3SophMarie

I looked up the reviews of this product as having bought many tubes previously I’ve noticed the latest one I have is no longer as grainy as it was, and I wanted to find out if perhaps it’s just a dud tube or whether others have reported the same. I see someone else has noticed this, which is disappointing as it was such a good face scrub! It really felt like it was giving your face a good exfoliation and left it feeling really smooth and clean, whereas now it just feels like a creamy face wash! I’m really disappointed about this as I’ve not been able to find anything that came close in the same price rangeRaaaaaaach

So I had your typical dry, flaky legs after a winter spent in jeans and scaly elbows from woolen jumpers, and tried this product out this week whilst showering instead of the oily salt scrubs I normally turn to….wow, what a difference. The bamboo powders were efficient without being too aggressive and you could definitely feel them go to work as the scrub doesnt slide off your skin when applied but rather stays put until deliberately washed off. Thats not to say that this scrub is so efficient that it cant be used comfortably on your bust or dcolletage. I didnt need to moisturize as my legs in particular felt smooth and soft afterwards even after the one use, but applied Clarins body lotion all the same for maximum effect. I will be using this very regularly from now onAnonymous

This is the best exfoliator Ive ever used, and I will never be using anything again. I was skeptical about how helpful it might be but after seeing a few positive reviews I figured I should try it out Its seriously amazing. It feels kind of like rubbing sand on yourself, in the best way possible, and it makes me look forward to my showers every day. When I get out, my skin is softer than Ive ever felt it before and it makes moisturizing so much fun because I cant believe how soft my skin is. For people who have never exfoliated, or have only used loofas or other scrubs this is the place to start. The exfoliating beads are tiny and not sharp, unlike other scrubs Ive used that are very abrasive and dont actually help in the long run. I never review things either, but I kind of felt compelled to given how much I love it. I used to moisturize to no end and never felt like my skin was any softer, no matter how expensive the lotions I used were, and especially in the winter I kind of gave up. This is the dream solution. Another plus for people who shave their legs, this makes your legs smooth on days when you have a little stubble but not enough to shave. My legs feel much less prickly which is the reason I shave anyway. And though its not a stated effect, it feels kind of firming as well, though maybe its just the soft skin that makes it feel that way. My only complaint is that after the first use it was a little difficult to get out of the bottle but thats pretty minor. xoxoAnonymous

This has got to be the best body exfoliation I have ever used and Im pretty sure Ive tried the majority. Ive found a lot of other exfoliating body products to either have large scratchy particles, not enough particles or those made with sugar or salt to just melt before you even get started they never feel like they have done it job properly. This however is amazing stuff the formula is a thick white cream with what feels like a dense sandy texture, not scratchy but enough to make you feel like you really have exfoliated properly and a little goes a very long way as it smoothes out easily. Leaves skin so soft to the touch with a glowing radiance. Moisturiser is able to sink in easier. An absolute must for any one thinking of using fake tan. Try it you will not be disappointed.Anonymous
