20 Best Facial Soap For Oily Skin (Jan 2023 Update)

This cleanser is really good. There are lots of comments in regard to the new formula being worse than the old, which has NOT been my experience. ( it’s just a cleanser list of ingredients! ). This gentle foaming cleanser defends against 5 signs of skin barrier, dryness, irritation, roughness, and tightness. It’s not harsh on my skin at all. I massage the product into my ski for 60 seconds then rinse and follow the rest of my daily routine. This product goes on light and smooth and leaves my skin feeling fresh and healthy. I don’t care for the smell though, hence I less the star rating. What I love about this cleanser it is effective, but gentle without stripping or leaving my skin feeling dry. The original formula left my skin feeling dry. I’m so happy they improved the formula with glycerine because my skin feels refreshed and moisturized! Things that I do love about this cleanser is that the company reworked the formula and took out the parabens and all of the harmful ingredients that it use to use. The cleanser is definitely gentle and good for sensitive skin. But it doesn’t have any actual active ingredients that would help with acne. So if your expecting it to cure any acne. It won’t. It would be best if used as a pre-cleanse before an active cleanser or if your on a medication that prevents you from using active ingredients. It doesn’t even fully remove my foundation and I don’t use a heavy foundation.jeana.w

No breakouts or irritation! I mainly use this when I’m having a bad hormonal acne flare up or if my skin is just being extra picky. Keeps things clean without stripping oils or your natural barrier, doesn’t dehydrate, and helps to soothe/heal. I used this product once in 2020 and I loved the way it cleaned my face and handled my acne like it was no big deal. I eventually ran out of the "bar" during quarantine and was really disappointed I couldn't go out and buy another. It's been a full year since I last purchased the product and when I started using the "bar" again I realized how effective it is. It lathers nicely and a little bit of the cleanser goes a long way. A really long way. In the shower, I would let it sit on my face. It would tingle, but it was nothing painful. It literally eliminated any major and minor blemishes I had and gave me a smooth complexion. I sadly ran out of the product again and I have been using the salicylic acid cleanser from Cerave. It's only been a week since I changed cleansers and my blemishes are coming back again :/. I may be relying on this cleansing "bar" too much, but it works wonders for me. My skin is combo with oily areas. Prior to using this cleanser, I was using the cleanser in the peach jar, which is good for dry skin. Not don’t get me wrong, it kept my skin clear and breakout free but when I got a bad breakout this summer I tried this one figuring it would be better. Also, products typically for cleaning and acne bother my skin. This cleanser is just it for me; smooth, even skin, breakouts go away quicker and no lingering dark marks. I have used the product two times a week for the last month. It is not drying and is gentle. It helped reduce dark spots. However, the product gave me cystic acne (deep pimples that are painful) because it cleans deep. In addition, my skin began to peel. It was not painful. I'm an esthetician that works at massage envy and we carry pca skin products , this and the facial wash are my favorite cleansers , I have combination skin so I use both as a double cleanser and my skin is so clear and soft and I'm left with the most beautiful glow . Though this cleanser is good, I feel it’s still too harsh to use after a peel. I 100% prefer to creamy cleanser to the facial wash for post-peel care. It isn’t as harsh as the Facial Wash Oily/Problem, but I don’t see this as a suitable cleanser after such an abrasive service. Tree to Tub’s gentle face wash is the best product I have ever used. I also use the unscented version. This wash has a pleasant lavender scent, is truly never drying, and gently deals with all the issues my skin gets aggravated by. Whether it’s harsh weather-heat or cold, or foods that cause a rash, none of these factors can stand up to the gentle calming action of this wash. Even my oily days seem to be neutralized when using it. My face comes clean but not squeaky and is ready for absorbing other products such as my moisturizer.Suzanne V.H.

Hi, my name is Diane and I have recently started using the Tree To Tub products on my face. I love them. First thing I tried was the um soap berry for your face. I washed my face with. It has a wonderful scent and wash it morning and evening and it just leaves my skin very moisturized. It's um very mild. And then after that I dry and I use this, it's called Ginseng Green Tea and it's a moisturizer. I love it. It has all their products have such a lovely light scent and I, you know, put it on my face and it just moisturizes my skin. I think it's making my, I have no makeup on right now. It's making my skin um just feel very moisturized and not quite as wrinkled and my pores are a little smaller. Then after the green tea I use uh the ginseng green tea hyaluronic toner. You just spritz it on a couple of times. It's, it just smells wonderful. I love it. And then the last product I use is the double hyaluronic hydration serum and they all go together and it just hydrates my skin very well. I never feel greasy or oily. I bought this facial soap because lavender is supposed to relax you when trying to sleep. Ive switched my normal nighttime soap to this. I won't say it makes me sleepy, but I'm enjoying the scent, and it does seem to relax me before bed, just a little but thats all i need to fall asleep. It foams well lots of bubbles, rinses clean without leaving my skin feeling dry or tight, and hasn't irritated my skin. My skin feels nicely hydrated after I rinse off. I have been using Clinique products for 40 years including their liquid facial soap. I have always purchased the jumbo 13.5 oz size in this soap. Since this smaller size was such a good value I decided to stock up. I put one of these smaller sizes in my shower. Even though Clinique says it is fragrance free it normally has a slight crisp, clean smell thats reminds me of the smell of water while sitting next to a swimming pool. This particular bottle had a different smell to it and actually made my face burn while using it. Fingers crossed this is a bad batch Clinique is not changing their formula for this liquid facial soap. I thought it odd too that I ordered 4 when they arrived 3 were shrink wrapped together the 4th was by itself thats the one I tried. Possibly the other 3 were a different batch and may have been fine. I did not open all of them. I hope QVC gets more of the jumbo size bottle in oily so I can order more.Anonymous

I have combination oily, aging, sometimes sensitive skin, prone to acnemilia, and I use the facial soap for oily skin. It is a liquid gel consistency and doesnt necessarily foam, but is effective at removing my sunscreen, moisturizer, sweat, sebum, the little makeup that I wear, and any dirtpollution. If you wear makeup, Id recommend using makeup remover first, then finish with this cleanser. I turn cleansing into a massage using this product, to give the active ingredients time to work, on my face, ears, neck, decollete, and the bumpy areas on the back of my upper arms KP. My face feels fresh and clean, not stripped, and there is a lovely cooling minty sensation on my skin as the water evaporates. It is a lovely experience On days when my skin feels like it might react to actives or the minty fresh sensation, I use Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser instead, as a backup plan, but this is my preferred cleanser. Also, a little goes a long wayit only takes one or two pumps of product per cleansing. Id recommend this for anyone with oily skin, male or female its unscented and gender neutral, but if acne is a bigger problem, go with the acne line of products Clinique offers. I follow cleansing with this soap with Clarifying Lotion 3 exfoliant toner and Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel or Jelly both are oil freethe DDM lotion has oils. I would think that this soap would be drying without some kind of moisturizer, even a light oilfree moisturizer.Anonymous

I love the product, been using it for years. Although, the older version of the Extra Mild was better, but works great! I only have one comment. Why they got rid of the pump? If they really wanted to be more green, could offer an option of the exactly same bottle without the pump as a refill. But no, they changed the bottle, so you can't used the older bottle pump. And of course, now without the pump, you used more product each time, so the bottle now last less. Way to go Clinique geniuses, trying to past a marketing strategy as a green strategy!Maru

If you are new to skin care and need a basic cleanser for oily skin or are in need for a second cleanser in a two step cleansing routine, this product does the job. First off, even though it is advertised for those with oily skin I have found it works well for those with dry skin as well (I have combination). It is just that the other product advertised for dry skin does not work as well for oily skin, this product on the other hand feels pretty universal. This product is however NOT FOR those who wear medium to heavy make up and want to use a single cleanser. There are other cleansers out there that remove makeup and cleanse at the same time in one cleanser, go buy those if you don't want to double cleanse or remove makeup beforehand using wipes or pads. If you wear very light makeup (meaning only foundation basically) this product can get rid of that just fine. For everyone else, this is the cleanser you should get if you don't want anything else in your cleanser (meaning you don't need your cleanser to exfoliate, brighten, soothe, etc). It is scentless, does not have any active ingredients, and is formulated really well (I'm not going to go into detail about ingredients, but just trust me in that it is a good list). As hinted at above, it also works really well as a second cleanser in a double cleansing routine, and as your cleanser after you remove your makeup with a pad or wipes. The highest praise I can give to this product is that it is super consistent. I have used 3 bottles in a year (so each lasts about 4 months) and have found that all 3 bottles felt identical in there feel, use, and effect. I have added and removed many products into my routine throughout the year and have simply kept this cleanser and it has had no adverse effects on my skin no matter what I was cleansing off or what I added to my skin after my skin. Having used it throughout the year, it also works just as well throughout the seasons not matter the ambient temperature in your house. I highly recommend everyone at least use a cleanser and moisturizer in their skin routine and this would be the best basic cleanser I would recommend to everyone.isnotu.l

Don't get me wrong – this product DOES work well at removing excess oil without leaving a gross, filmy residue on your skin. My face feels really clean after using it. I appreciate that it is fragrance free but the smell of it bothers me. It smells like a swimming pool and a bit chemical like which is a little off putting. My other complaint is that it leaves the area around my mouth feeling dried out compared to the rest of my face. Not sure what that is about, could have something to do with postpartum hormones, but definitely something to keep in mind if you're buying this however it's nothing that a moisturizer afterwards can't fix. I was going to put in an order tonight but the kind for oily skin was the only one available. My grandaughter uses that one bc she has/had acne. The rest of us use normal to oily. I may have to wait to put in my order. Since my grandaughter started using the one for oily skin twice a day her acne is gone, she's 21 now & was 17 when I bought her first bottle. my daughters & I use normal to oily & it's great, I've tried alot of other cleansers which dry my skin out. My friends think that this is too expensive, this pump bottle lasts me a long time bc I'm the only one in my house that uses it. I use it in evening, sometimes w/a cloth & sometimes w/clarisonic brush, either way my skin feels good after. I prefer to use it in the evening bc I apply moisturizer after & wake up w/really soft skin. I don't think that you're supposed to use a facial brush e'day, it's too harsh on your skin! I got off subject but I did start buying my family gifts from Ulta & they love e'thing, when I started buying the girls & women the Laroche Posay skin cleanser they have been buying from Ulta, another grandaughter started an Ulta acct, 2 of my daughters & other family members, when my grandaughter asks for this for Christmas I'm so happy to oblige bc work & school is tough & I also get her makeup from time to time. She proudly showed me her makeup collection which started w/me. I'm happy to help my little ones get started w/good products & they all love Ulta. I've never had sensitive skin. I'm 25 and have never dealt with acne, other than hormonal. I started using the even tone cleansing kit…so the bar, the serum, retinol, and sunscreen. i followed the directions for frequency and usage. within a couple of days my skin was peeling, which I read was normal. I gave it a few days, and i developed a rash around my mouth and chin that I've never had before, with tiny, itchy bumps that would get worse if I was outside sweating. it was horrible and i did not leave my house for days. I stopped using the products cold turkey and just went to a very mild face wash and moisturizer and the rash went away after 4 or 5 days. I don't know how you would know if you will have a bad reaction unless you try it, but if you feel any negative effects, stop using immediately.Amelia

i started using this sometime in june. i noticed i started getting a super dry patch of skin around my lip. i didn’t really think anything of it as i had gotten a bad sunburn a few weeks before and thought it was probably just from that. as i started to get towards the bottom of this container, i noticed the product had much darker beads of wash, again, didn’t really think much of it i continued using it. then i got another disgusting dry patch of skin on my bottom lip and it was so bad that i couldn’t go 30 minutes without applying aquaphor because it was itchy, dry, and burning. the last time i used this product my face literally felt like it was burning. like i had sat in the florida sun for hours with no sunscreen. i returned the product and 2 days later my lip already started going back to normal and was no longer dry and itchy. i would beware of chemical burns and this is definitely NOT FOR SENSITIVE SKIN.kamrynb

Ok, hear me out. I have been using this cleanser for a little over a week. Things I like? Sponge is pretty great. The product leaves my face feeling nice and clean. As far as evening my skin tone, mayyy see a little difference already? Butttt I’m not saying that the product itself doesn’t work, but before using this product I NEVER washed my face with a sponge. I typically used my hands or maybe a washcloth. The sponge really encourages you to lather up and scrub. Almost like you’re trying to erase those pesky dark spots. So my question is, is the product working to even your skin tone or is it the fact that you have this nifty little sponge that is exfoliating your skin morning and night, every day, where before this product that wasn’t happening?? So, am I happy with the product, yes. Will I buy it again? Right now I’ll say yes, but I’ll see when I finish it off what progress my skin has made. Is it the product or the sponge?? I’ve been using this for over 5 years. I’m in my 40s and still had adult acne, and this has cleared up my skin like nothing else I’ve used. The smell doesn’t bother me like other reviewers, it smells good to me. I love the feeling of this creamy scrub, and my skin never feels dry or taught, it feels healthy and normal. My only complaints are they recently raised their price and the label on this is horrible. I keep this in my shower but out of direct water contact and the label still starts to flake off and there’s little black pieces from the label all over my shower. This little guy is actually a pretty decent exfoliator. The African black soap line is a pretty good line, especially for problematic skin. I usually don't use drugstore due to ingredients (read your labels) but African black soap is a natural remedy for problematic skin. This exfoliator should be used no more than 3 times a week. Over exfoliating can cause irritation and more acne. I have the African black soap, This exfoliator, and the mask, and when used all together consistently, you will get more balanced skin. Though this doesn't "cure" acne, it will help prevent more acne from appearing. I use this exfoliator about twice a week with my other skincare (Pixi, Mario Bedoscu) and my skin has never been in better condition, and I'm 28. If your looking for something to balance your skin, and prevent acne, this little guy is a good choice. If your looking for all your acne to go away, this will probably not be enough. Read ingredients carefully when purchasing skincare people. Skincare brands purposely put ingredients like (Mineral oil, dimethicone) which block pores in their skincare to cause more irritation, hence forcing you to purchase more. If skincare brands made miracle skincare products, they would go out of business. Coming from an oily, 28 year old with HUGE pores, and closed comedones (flesh colored bumps under the skin) your best bet is to watch what your putting on your face. Now that I look at ingredients, my face has never looked better, almost a clear face, and I've never had a clear face. When you pay attention to ingredients, it does a world of good. I wanted to like this a lot since it’s “natural” and has raving reviews, but it just wasn’t for me. Skin always feels so soft after each use, but it also feels like there is a layer of some kind on the skin. Maybe it’s the Shea butter or Coconut? That’s another thing, I don’t like coconut on my face as it’s highly comedogenic! I don’t like anything that clogs pores. I have enough issues with my pores. This is a gentle exfoliant. I swear by this face cleanser! I’ve been using this cleanser and the Kiehl’s line in general for 2 years now and my skin has never been better. I absolutely love the fresh, soft feeling my skin has after I wash it. I used to have acne, now it’s totally clear and I only get a few small pimples here and there. This cleanser goes on great and foams up quite easily. As you're cleansing it feels really nice, refreshing and effective. As someone with normal skin who probably leans slightly to the dry side of things, I did find this to be mildly stripping on some parts of my face, but wouldn't go so far as to say it was fully drying. Knowing that this is meant for normal to oily skin, it's not something I would've picked up for myself but I did get a sample size of it so of course had to try it out. It was good enough to finish the sample (about 3 uses) but not for my skin type to consider purchasing. I'd recommend it for oily skin types only.Bernie

This review regards the Extra Mild formula – the Mild formula I would give 4-5 stars, but the Extra Mild only 1-2 (they ought to separate the reviews by formula). I got a bottle with my points because the points were about to expire and there was nothing else on offer that I wanted. I have very dry skin that's been getting drier with winter coming on, so I thought I'd finally try the extra mild. I used it three times – the first two were all right – I thought it smelled faintly of oats, which I found calming. It left a coating on my skin, pretty much like when you use a cleansing balm or oil, which I was willing to accept if my skin wouldn't feel so tight after washing. The third time I used it, my face started to burn, my cheeks turned red, my eyelids swelled, and my whole face felt hot, tight, swollen, and sandpapery. It's been a few hours and it hasn't improved much. I feel like it's burned the top layer of my skin off. A lot of others seem to have experienced similar allergic reactions to this Extra Mild formula, but I looked up all the ingredients on EWG's Skin Deep site, and only tocopheryl acetate and phenoxyethanol seem likely culprits. But they're also both in the Mild version, which doesn't give me an allergic reaction. There must be something in it that so many people are reacting negatively to.Gemma

This is a great easy scrub. It smells very refreshing and is gentle. It is not drying at all. My skin feels very plump after use. You can definitely smell the witch hazel and the bark. I also love the way it is in a pump bottle. It’s very convenient. Only downside- is that I do expect it to go pretty fast- just because of its size. But, you are getting a lot of benefits. I bought two tubes of that cleanser hoping that it would last me throughout my whole pregnancy. After the first use my skin started to be very itchy and having burning sensation. I thought I will try using every other day but it made my skin worse. My whole body started to itch. It's very watery cleanser that easily gets in to your eyes and irritate them. Well I can confirm that this is by far the best face wash I have ever used!! Just after one week of use my acne was cleared up. I'm now on week 4 or 5 of using this face wash and I haven't had a single break out!! That's a big deal!! Even through my cycle, which is when I would always have a break out, I didn't have a single breakout this time. I've had a couple of little white heads but they never developed into an actuale pimple. I also have always had an issue with black heads on my chin and nose. I have seen a huge improvement with that as well. My skin is overall so much healthier and smoother!! I use this face wash twice a day, at night when I'm removing makeup I first use my dove beauty bar (just your basic white dove bar soap, if you've never used it, try it!! It's amazing at taking make up off) to remove my makeup and then use this cleanser to make sure all is clean. In the morning I use only this cleanser. I also purchased the vitamin c moisturizer, which I LOVE, and the face scrub, also amazing! I know this line is designed for pregnant women but I highly recommend this to anyone who suffers from acne!! It is definitely pricey but the bottles are huge, so it should last a while. This little gem came in a bundle that I purchased to try out different products. I recommend folks to purchase bundles to get the vast array of products that they offer. I have very dry skin that coincides with the side effect of a skin disorder that I have. A lot of facial cleansers I am allergic to or have reactions to. So I was wary of this, but I gave it a try. I was thrilled that I didn't have a reaction or a breakout from using it. But the best surprise was how soft and clean my skin was. I have been using it since about a year ago. I totally love their face wash products. I have tried three different ones and they all work wonders in my face. As soon as I get pimples in my face I use this wash twice daily and literally those pimples go away without leaving marks in my face!! I was really impressed as to how clean and and hydrated my face felt after I washed my face with the Apple cider vinegar facial wash. You just need 1 pump ( it goes a long way) and the brush is soft yet firm. My face also did not feel stripped or tight after washing. I am in love with this facial wash thank you WOW skin science. After trying many different oil cleansers from Soko Glam (all of which more or less served their purpose but were't anything special), I decided to try this one. This product truly deserves all the praise it gets. This cleanser works a dozen times better than any other oil cleanser or balm I've used, and it's the only one I've tried that can easily and completely remove any waterproof eyeliner and mascara I have on. A little bit goes a very long way, and the small 3.17 oz container lasts me about 6 months (I usually use it once or twice a day). At first I didn't know if the price would be worth it since it's more expensive than BanilaCo or other cleansing balms, but it really is. It lasts so much longer than other balms and does a better job or removing daily grime and makeup. As a bonus, it has a nice texture and a pleasant fragrance too. I have dry, sensitive skin and this doesn't cause me any irritation whatsoever and doesn't dry out my skin (in fact it even makes my face feel more moisturized after I use it). Ok, but I was really impressed! This balm is actually worth the hype. The first day I had this in my hands, I happened to have worn a rare full face of heavy makeup, full coverage foundation, waterproof eyeliner and mascara, SPF, the works. I tested this out, didn't remove any makeup first, just straight to this cleansing balm. ALL OF IT CAME OFF IN A SINGLE WASH! It required dramatically less product to do than other brands and didn't leave my eyes super oily, cloudy, and uncomfortable like my old take the day off balm. And honestly, the texture and color are my favorite parts. The top layer of the product didn't do like other balms I've tried, where it's so hard that it doesn't want to dissolve into oil, it was instantly smooth. And the natural yellow color was nice because it was easier to see where I've washed and what needs better coverage or where I missed rinsing. My only complaint is that it dried my skin too much when done if used every day, so I'm going to keep using my Hanskin PHA as my primary cleanser. Overall, seriously worth the hype, an excellent cleansing balm. I will keep using this whenever I need to take off my makeup and keep my skin from breaking out thanks to foundation makeup.Ingrid

So, this cleansing balm is my favorite that I’ve ever purchased. A little goes a long way, it washes off easily, it smells incredible, and it gets makeup off like nothing else. I have very sensitive skin, and I had no irritation, which is basically a miracle. As a side note, this also works incredibly well to remove medical adhesive residue. My father recently had to wear a heart monitor to get checked for a certain condition after a recent hospitalization, and absolutely nothing was getting the adhesive from the patches off of him. His skin was getting torn up because it made him itchy, he kept trying to scratch off the adhesive residue, and as he’s aged his skin has gotten more delicate. As a last ditch effort, I tried this cleansing balm because I figured if it can remove waterproof mascara as easily as it did, that it might stand a chance against this adhesive menace. And I was right! It came right off! I’m honestly even a little convinced this balm is magic, because his skin always takes ages to heal now that he’s older, and he was right as rain after just a couple of days. Skin type: Clear/Combination/Sensitive I was excited to use this product due to the great reviews. The product lathers up very very well – you only need a tiny amount. No scent. This made my skin feel like a layer had been taken off of it… My skin feels very smooth – however, it felt tight and slightly sore. I didn't have a reaction but I just didn't feel as a good as my previous cleanser by Sukin (Australian Brand – can purchase anywhere). Even after using a toner my skin still felt tight. This is a decent foam cleanser. It's relatively inexpensive and does the job, even removes makeup pretty well and leaves the skin feeling squeaky clean afterwards. The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because I feel as though it leaves my skin feeling dry and stripped afterwards so it's not a cleanser I would reach out for straight away. It lathers up a lot so a little goes a long way. I would probably repurchase it as it is still a very good cleanser, it's just I wouldn't use it everyday because I already have dry-combination skin and this leaves my skin feeling very stripped after using it.Nasma

I used to never use face wash in the past because washing my face with them would actually GIVE me pimples (my skin has a very sensitive ecosystem) so I never used face wash much. That was before I was introduced to this specific product. I've been using this daily for a couple years now and it's literally the only face wash I'll use. It's gentle enough not to disturb my skin but I can still definitely feel it's cleaning effects (ever find that some gentle cleansers are way too gentle that it doesn't even seem like they do much?). I love this cleanser. A little goes a long way, the gel and container dispense well and it has a very light but pleasant smell. [brand:obagi-clinical] Nu-Derm Foaming Gel, in my opinion, is the best gentle cleanser. My face feels completely clean, no need to double cleanse when using my Foreo Mini or MakeupEraser cloth. I would suggest buying this product from a local dermatologist or on the Obagi Website. The reason I say this is because for $38 dollars, you want the real formula, it's light pink and has a pleasant smell. I once purchased this cleanser on Amazon and it was fake. I spent years searching for a great cleanser – something that didn't leave me feeling squeaky clean but still did the job, something gentle, something that would work year-round and wouldn't irritate my skin – and this one checks every single box and then some. So the promise of this product, according to label at least, is that it is very mild and suitable for sensitive skin, while also helping acne prone skin. And it's true that if you use it as a face wash, you are pleasantly surprised that your face is not tight or dry afterwards.

However, a quick look into its ingredients using www.incidecoder.com will show that this is some powerful stuff. It contains a source of salicylic acid (willow bark), a closely related source of glycolic acid (sugar cane), a form of Vitamin C and a form of Vitamin A. I don't know about you, but that sounds like trouble to me, if you have sensitive skin.

My experience with this cleanser is that, while it left my face feeling clean and not tight at all, it also left it irritated later on. It was very telling that both times I tried using it, the back of my hands started burning. Same for my neck. In both of those areas the skin is very sensitive and prone to irritation.

I would recommend this cleanser as maybe a once in a while exfoliating treatment, but definitely not on a daily basis.Luca E
