It does tint your hair to this shade. But that's all the good it does. It made my hair very frizzy and brittle and unmanageable. It was very hard to brush my hair after washing it out. Soooo very dry. So very puffy. My hair was in good condition before this too. The color lasted only a week with 2 washes. It doesn't stick for me. I have normal density, fine strain hair. When it does wash out, it has a green hue to it. I would stay far away from this product. There's other a lot more moisturizing and healthy products to deposit color into your hair. Although this 2-step process takes me 4 hours including set-up and clean-up, it is worth it. I have peace of mind that I am not putting on my body (or in the environment) any chemicals that may be toxic or disruptive. And if you do it right, it really does cover the gray and look natural. Even my hairdresser admires it. Other than the time, the only downside is it does leave a blue residue on my scalp, only noticeable on my fingernails if I scratch it. The color lasts about 4-5 weeks, same as the chemical stuff, but when it grows out it is gradually noticeable instead of a line of gray roots like with salon coloring. I will never go back. Henna is the ONLY 100% natural hair color, and this 2-step system works without leaving it looking orange.Happy mama
I purchased the Medium Brown and my hair was more than 10% gray. For shoulder length hair all you need is 1 box. It work so well that just after step 1 my grays were covered. It is all natural no chemical scent. The natural scent is earthy not overpowering. I combed out my hair to remove any tangles. I mixed step 1 with boiled distilled water to a mud paste consistency similar to a mud facial mask and let the mud like mixture cool a bit to warm and applied it to my just washed and air dried hair. I applied the muddy paste and added coconut oil to my hair to assist me with working it in I added coconut oil to my muddy hair during the application of both steps 1 and 2 to assist in working the product into my hair in order to try to incorporate it well into my hair. I left step 1 on for two and a half hours and I left step 2 on for 4 hours. I did not put on the plastic hair cap during both steps.After both steps my hair had more volume and shine. In order to maintain the results the instructions recommend repeating this process every month which I will definitely continue to do. I am overjoyed at finding this product! After years of dyeing with 'safer' less harmful dyes, my scalp started to burn up and reject the chemicals. I really didn't think natural dyes could be effective on my mostly gray hair. I was pleasantly surprised! The colour holds so well! My natural colour is black. The dark brown dye produces a soft brown that fades gradually. The whole process takes five hours total. The indigo/ second step takes two and a half hours to set. I had dark violet hair for about a year and it has proven difficult to remove the leftover red color from my hair. All I wanted was to get close to my natural light brown hair color. I went to a high end salon and paid $140 for her to butcher my color. She dyed it a brown color and added some balayage highlights. I had high hopes for the end result and was sadly disappointed. There was just as much red as before. but she also somehow made my roots several different colors, one being very orange and brassy. It was very unflattering. So, I decided to get some color oops, a deep conditioning treatment and this Wella Color Charm in medium ash brown. I used the Color Charm 20 volume developer. After all was said and done, my hair has zero red tones and it is very close to my natural dirty brown color. I was presently surprised that my roots are not all kinds of different shades because the color oops still left them funky. Went from a level 7 permanent red to a level 7 blonde with T35. A good round of bleach took off quiet a bit of the red but I still had really dark orange. T35 blended everything so well and made the burnt orange color a nice strawberry blonde and helped out all the other yellow and white I had going on after the bleach to make it all a really nice blonde. I love love love wella color charm! I’ve been using it since I was a kid… well 13 or so haha, I'm 29 now! and I’ve gone and used other brands, Ion (JUST DONT!) and such and I always go back to color charm… it leaves my hair nice and soft and healthy and the color holds well, for a good long time, and it always comes out a beautiful color just like the swatch, it’s never really a surprise what you end up with. Which is refreshing with hair color, you want what you intend. My mom also uses wella and has for decades! Their toners (for like blonde hair) work VERY well too. I was blonde for quite a few years in my mid 20's and after bleaching my hair, I would of course always use a toner, I'm a natural red head -before I started going gray that is, which is why I color now- so not using one isn't an option. I always used wella, except for ONCE cause something else was on sale, and it didn't work nearly as well, I actually went back out that night and bought the wella toner I usually use and the next day re-toned my hair. Worked like a charm (pun INTENDED) and I never tried a different brand again. The only other brand I prefer (and it's only for what some would call "extreme colors") is arctic fox and that's only if I'm gonna do like blue or purple. But the wella for other more "natural spectrum" colors works just as well. I'd say wella and arctic fox are even with each other quality and hair health wise. I will say when using wella color, I prefer to use the "original" liquid color rather than the gel kind, but that's because I have a LOT of hair, and the liquid one seems to go farther, and I still have to use 2 bottles, but I have to use 2 no matter what brand I buy. I also use creme developer however and I know that thickens things up, so..the liquid just does better for me. I have some friends who prefer the gel however. It's all about personal preference. I'd say give them each a try and decide how you like them yourself. They seem to make every color in their catalog in both the gel and the original liquid. (Pardon my odd face in my review photo. With older age comes more grey hairs and it has been something I have done for many many years now! I dye my hair as well as do touch ups in between to keep cover up the grey hairs and keep my hair looking youthful and fresh. The Clairol root touch-up was easy to use and apply. I followed the instructions and mixed the colour cream as well as the activator together, mixed and then applied it onto my hair with the brush that it came with. The brush makes it easy to apply onto the roots of my hair. I applied the hair colour section by section as it makes it easier to know where I have already applied and ensures that I don't miss any part of my hair that needs colour. I focused more on the front where my grey hairs are really noticeable and on the sides. It's hard to tell where to apply when trying to do the back part of my hair but it's handy to have someone to help you apply it if you can! The whole process didn't take too long and then I left the colour in for around 15 minutes and then washed it out. The colour looked really nice and did a pretty good job of covering my grey hairs. Clairol Root Touch-Up Permanent Crème is so quick and easy to use. I was able to cover grey hair in under 20 minutes. The instructions are very easy to follow. Just mix and apply with the brush provided. Wait ten minutes then rinse off. I waited fifteen minutes to ensure the colour would be strong enough. It has a pleasant scent and a good consistency. I found that there was enough of the formula to cover my part and temples and I used the excess on the areas near my hair part. I am happy with the result. The coverage is very good on the top of my head, not so great on my temples but they are always harder to cover. The colour has blended in well with the rest of my hair and I'm hoping it will last a couple of weeks until my next hair colour. I was so happy to have received the Clairol Root Touch-Up in the number four dark brown shade. It couldn’t have come at better time as I needed to freshen up my roots for an evening out. Very glad to see on the pack that the dark brown colour shade matched one of the brands that I normally use to dye my hair. The Clairol Root Touch-Up is a one application process and included in the pack is a tube of permanent colour crème, colour activation lotion, applicator brush, bowl and gloves. It was great to see a bowl included too as it made the preparation so much easier. The instructions where very clear and easy to follow as I applied the product using the control brush. It was so nifty to use and help part my hair to get to my roots. I left the colour on for the recommended ten minutes and I could see the activation of colour working its magic. I then rinsed it out which was quiet easily done and I used my own shampoo and conditioner as normal to wash my hair. Overall, once my hair was dried and styled, I found that the majority of my grey roots were easily covered and the colour matched effectively; a positive outcome for me. I bought this product because 5RC on the box said LIGHT copper brown. When I googled it, it of course comes up with MEDIUM copper brown. I dyed my hair thinking it would be the color swatch that was on the shelves at Sally's. I used a color remover to remove my old color and get it ready for a light copper brown. To my shock after using that treatment twice and getting ready to dye it with the light color, it came out exactly as this color showing on this page So I used all this treatment on my hair to remove a dark color only to have another dark color. Can't say I'm super happy with how this was all labeled. 5RC that I got on my box definitely said light copper brown and definitely came out as this medium copper brown. Bit disappointed

I use this permanent hair color in 1A – blue black. I've been using it ever since I was attending Paul Mitchell the School five years ago because it's one of the few permanent blacks that lasts me the longest. I can go about four to five months before it becomes dull and I need to color it again. Sometimes I add a bit of blue semi-permanent hair color to it to make the blue really pop, but I always use 20 volume developer and that has worked best for me. Paul Mitchell is also a cruelty-free company, which makes me feel really good about using their color line – not many hair companies have followed suite yet, unfortunately. I went to a Paul Mitchell beauty school so I’ve used this color a lot. I’m not the biggest fan of it. I felt like it fades very quickly and I hated shampooing before application because it takes a longer time to apply the color when you’re working with a client. And in order to use this color line and have it be the most effective it’s recommended to wash the hair before applying. Then you have to dry it then apply the color and then wash and dry again after the color is applied. It’s a lot of work to color hair when every other color can be just applied right away. Light Mountain Color The Gray Black worked for me in the past and since my current brands of henna stopped covering my gray, I am coming back to this brand. I quit using the Light Mountain Color the Gray after years of successful use when I found a premix bottled henna that covered my gray. Unfortunately, after a year of using Beauty Salon chemical color due to circumstances beyond my control and then returning to henna, the premix bottled henna no longer worked. So I am coming back to this brand. I used hard won 'tricks' in the past to make Mountain Light Color The Gray work as expected. The 'tricks' that worked for me were using the darkest black coffee in the second step & adding vinegar to the formulas. Yes it is tedious. Yes it takes hours. I was lucky for a season and my beautician would apply it if brought it pre-mixed from home. Now it is up to me to do it at home alone. It is worth it if it works. I used this for the first time this week. I really like the shade. The trick to getting a good application is to make sure you shampoo your hair before application so it’s damp and why residue/build up is gone, which can make the color not adhere to your hair. Remember, semi-permanent coats the surface of your hair, not the cuticle, so you want it as clean as possible. Using it on dry hair will give you a tint, but probably not the bright effect you were hoping for. Liked it so much, I got a few more shades of red and brown to try out.shannon.g
this stuff is AMAZING!! So I have been on the grey silver hair trend (well trying to get there at least) lol and the stuff is a lifesaver! I couldn't get the darn brass out of my hair and it was driving me crazy! tried almost everything! My last option was toning but after all the bleaching I didn't want to use chemicals… this saved my life and turned my pale yellow to a beautiful silver after one wash with a little bit in my shampoo! then I shadow tried with it full strength! no brass slightly profile like I wanted (only in the sun and thats because I left it on as little longer to achieve the purple silver look). I also used it on my son because w bleached his mohawk twice but was still orange like really orange! one freaking wash with a purple shampoo I made with this (a little stronger than the one I made for my hair since his was so orange) and we got a beautiful silver!! My hair was a highly dull off-black with an auburn brown tint from sun exposure. The ends (about 3inches) of my hair was a dark blond from permanent hair dye about 2yrs ago that was still growing out. My hair length is a few inches past my collar bone so I suppose it's medium length. I have high density hair (lots of hair strands) and my hair strands are thick. I would always have to buy 2 boxes of hair dye for my hair because it is so dense. However, I only needed one box of this hair dye and I even had about 1/4 of it left over. The box contains a set of instructions (which are very clear by the way), a sample of their shampoo and conditioner, gloves (which didn't break or tear), hair dye, developer, and an applicator bottle. I personally prefer using a mixing bowl and applicator brush. Next time, I will use those items instead. I parted my hair into six sections and worked one section at a time and started on the roots first throughout my head, then proceeded to the length of my hair. It states to let the dye sit for 20min but considering that my hair is a bit color resistant, I let it sit for about 40 instead. Normally, I wouldn't extend it for this amount of time, but considering this product was natural, I took a chance. I wouldn't recommend you do this but use your personal experience and judgement. The instructions strongly recommend that you do an allergy test (place the hair dye on inner elbow) and watch it over the next 48hrs to see if you will have an allergic reaction before using the hair dye. However, I did not do this. I do have sensitive skin but never had an allergic reaction to any hair dye so I based my decision partly off that. I didn't like the shampoo nor the conditioner that came with it. The shampoo made my hair tangle and it felt like it was stripping my hair. The conditioner wasn't effective in making my hair feel conditioned. The actual hair dye made my hair feel soft becaused it is packed with oils. I still would use the shampoo and conditioner since they are meant to work together after the hair dye process. The hair dye was a COMPLETE SUCCESS! It completely covered my blond ends and the entirety of my head. My hair is now black. I must state that this Poppyseed color (2N) is a NATURAL black so it is NOT jet black. I actually wanted jet black hair but the Vitamin Shoppe that I shopped at didn't have it so I got this instead. Next time, I will definitely be getting the jet black which is called Licorice (1N) which is the darkest shade. I can't wait to do it again!LovelyBreeze
I've been dying my hair for about 33 years…. other brands always left my hair brittle, dried out and stripped… the color didn't make much sense either, no matter how "natural" I tried to look. I was convinced the only thing to do was stop dying my hair and go "naturally gray". Well after 9 months of not dying my hair… there wasn't a whole lot of "gray" to get excited about…it just looked mousy and non descript…and worst of all..juat made me look older. Soooo very dry. So very puffy. My hair was in good condition before this too. The color lasted only a week with 2 washes. It doesn't stick for me. I have normal density, fine strain hair. When it does wash out, it has a green hue to it. I would stay far away from this product. There's other a lot more moisturizing and healthy products to deposit color into your hair. I personally think this dye is great, but I can think of another brand that has more staying power and is cheaper, so for that reason I can only give this 4 stars. The tone of this pink is unique to pinks I have bought previously and I think that's great when wanting some dimension! The texture is hard to describe but not its really creamy or gel like. And I think it smells like peppercorn, which doesn't bother me. I find a tube of this goes a really long way too, which is fantastic! The staying power is pretty average for your vivid pinks. Its rare for them to last too long. But I touch mine up every few washes around the roots and let the rest fade to a pastel, so its no big deal.dominique.f
I recently tried this product for the first time and I think it’s now one of my favorites! I’ve gotten TONS of compliments since I used Blue Ruin and I’ve used them all, over the years. Warning: stuff is Pravana Vivids level of stainage. RIP to a couple of ratty old towels, lol. My hair is between a level 2-3 with grays and I bleach and then highlight it to level 7-8. Pro tip is that I mix this product with a little conditioner and Olaplex 3 and then leave it in my hair for 2 hours. It really saves it from being fried. I tried to manage my expectations a little with this product, as it’s recommended for light blonde or pre-lightened hair but mine was a balayage with dark blonde/light brown. Turns out it defied my expectations and still came out as a super vibrant red! My hair is chest length and the tube had just about enough to cover nearly my whole head (my roots are dark so I avoided those) with a small amount of conditioner mixed in to stretch it a bit further. I’m now on wash 3 or 4 and I’m surprised by how much colour is still in my hair! The vibrancy has been toned down but it’s definitely still red and I expect it will be for a while yet.Nicole

Rarely do I write reviews, but "No Gray Hair Color Additive" was so amazing, I felt I must spread the good news! Typically, I have used Clairol Nice 'n Easy Root Touch-Up in Medium Brown [5] mixed with a small amount of Light Brown [6]. Other times, I'll use L'Oreal Superior Preference Hair Color, mixing Medium Brown [5] with Light Brown [6] equally. Before I discovered there was this "No Gray Hair Color Additive," I had also tried Clairol Nice 'n Easy Gray Solution, mixing Medium 5 and Light Brown 6 of the Gray Solution products, but even that version of "Gray Solution" did not cover the gray completely; I guess it did actually "cover" the gray, but it left the roots a lighter brown than the rest of my hair. While reviewing some comments on Amazon regarding hair color, I stumbled upon this product "No Gray Hair Color Additive" in which I was informed I could simply add this product to my regular hair color, over which I got so excited! (Too much change all at once can be kind of scary!) So, in my first and only try so far, I added "No Gray" (which I'll call it for convenience) to my Clairol Nice 'n Easy Root Touch-Up in Medium Brown [5], (afterwards applying another mixture of equal amounts of Medium Brown [5] and Light Brown [6] L'Oreal Superior Preference Hair Color to soften the look). To my great delight, I found that "No Gray" effectually heightened the coverage to the gray, leaving my hair a uniform color, roots and all! Without "No Gray," the gray had not been effectively and uniformly covered. With "No Gray" added, the gray is completely gone! In viewing some negative comments about "No Gray," I must admit I was surprised ~ my experience of it seemed quite the opposite. Yes, I'll agree the "No Gray" product is pure liquid which can certainly feel a bit unwieldy (and can be somewhat messy in the using, but I was relieved it did wash off, and then I used my gloves), but when added to the texture of the hair color, I found the more liquified solution congealed just enough to easily cover my hair but with no dripping. I actually found the solution's increased liquidity made coverage of my roots easier, as well as being more thorough in reaching every strand! In summary, I have a lot of gray in my roots, so covering the gray seemed a massive undertaking. "No Gray" not only helped me to effectively tackle the challenge, but its increased liquidity even made the job easier for me! It feels like I have "tried everything" in terms of products that said they would fully cover the gray, but none did cover it (completely and uniformly) until I was able to add "No Gray." The wand for application is like a mascara wand. The product is thinner than mascara. I chose brown/black and it seems to be a bit dark for my brown hair. However, it also has a little brush and comb on the opposite end of the wand which you can work the product a little and it seems to blend with the hair. The color match was perfect for my hair. I brushed some product in, used the hard bristles to further brush it in, and finished with the soft bristles to blend it in. I had no issues with it not drying. It dried just fine. It didn’t feel cakey or make the application areas hard (like some sprays do). I really liked how this turned out on my hair. My hair is already pretty dark but my roots grow in pretty fast so this was absolutely needed. It does not have a super strong chemical smell, and left my hair feeling soft: I have problems using color that often damages my curl pattern. This did not! This is my hair immediately after wash. For reference my hair is a medium to light brown with an ash undertone and some gray hairs. Midnight blue is really nice with an undertone of a blue tint but no actual blue to your hair. Jet black is very dark, sharp and glossy looking. Natural black still solid coverage but a softer tone to it. Chestnut brown has a golden almost auburn color to it. Red hot rhythms is stunning when first applied but quickly loses color in less than a week making your hair look very much like a box dye job. Golden blond is true golden warm tone but again you need a professional to lighten your hair first in order for the color to take all the way through your hair. I don't know who has their nose broken, but the conditioner smells absolutely fabulous. Reminds of a salon honestly. obviously when you're dying you need to have a fan going but even that's not a bad smell. Bottom line as with any color going darker than your hair tone is always easy and possible. And going lighter impossible without a bleach or toner to lighten it first before depositing color. I really liked this brand, it was new to me and this is how I feel about it. Now that I’ve went through the process of dying my hair and the color has now been in for a full day. First the packaging was very neat and you knew what you were working with. Once opened everything was in the box with easy to read instructions. I was super excited to see the dye bottle was a twist off top. Usually I have to cut the tip of the dye bottle in the boxes dye that I normally use. The dye mixed after a few hard shakes, but once I poured into my hair I could see that it didn’t mix all the way so had to give a bit more hard shakes to get it to fully mix. The liquid itself was runny, I like my hair dye a bit less runny. The smell of it was not too powering, and once on the head and scalp it did burn a bit while I sat to catch my hair. The washout was nice and not messy. A few rinses and it came out clear. The product came with a very nice sized conditioner, that has left my hair super soft. The conditioner had a very nice smell. It reminded me of tropical fruit. My hair still smells like it, and I work all day. All my hair caught the color and came out great. I would recommend trying this brand if you have it within reach. My experience here was a bit different than all other previous reviews, so take it as it is. I have very thin curly brown hair and this gave me a nice dark blonde colour. It looks very beautiful in terms of colour, has good coverage and is easy to mix and apply (although you need your own bowl and mixing tool). My hair is long but one box was enough and unlike all other dyes, it didn't bleed to the towel or pillow at all and didn't stain my skin. Now the cons: it has a VERY strong smell when applying! Not sure how everyone is saying it smells good… the smell goes away the next day, but do not apply in a closed space. Also, and this made me fear for my life: my hair got extremely dry right after washing the dye off… it felt like I was touching hay and not hair. I was shocked!! Even after the conditioner from the box, my own conditioner, it felt like it was ruined… only after a week or so of putting leave in conditioner everyday and not using shampoo it got back to normal, so beware you may need to do some extra conditioner care afterwards (this never happened to me before with any other dye). I don't know if I would buy this brand again due to the dryness shock, but I do love the colour result…iHerb Customer
I buying this for my mom. she has 100 % of grey hair. and previously she tried many brands, and no any of them could stay and last more than a 2 weeks. She tried Herbatint and she got amazed. It covered all 100% of her grey hair and still lasting and it us already 2nd month now. Only the new growing hair is grey, So she just need to color the roots. But the rest hair is remaining the color. This Brand is the best. And absolutely chemical free. Because even it drop on clothes after washing it easily gone. I mixed this color (5D light golden chestnut) with 7D (golden blond). The ratio is one unit of developer to one unit of color. So I used a half unit of each color to equal one color unit and blended that with one unit of the developer. The remaining color that I didn't use from each bottle will be used next time, so I get two uses out of each box. I chose to blend those two colors to try to get close to my natural shade, which is a light brown with some golden strands and some hints of red. I did a bunch of research before I bought these colors. I learned that the same shades act differently on all different people and just accepted that I wouldn't be able to predict the exact outcome. If you want to be more sure of the actual result, you can save your hair from the shower for a week and then use that as a test to see how the color takes to your hair. Who knew there'd be a use for that annoying shower hair! My results were quite dark the day that I dyed it — it was a rich chocolate tone. It lightened up after a few washes. It's now been more than a week since I colored it and it looks great. I have about 20% gray and it covered them well. I like that the formula doesn't have a harsh chemical scent. Please note that the packages don't include a bowl to mix the solution in or an applicator for putting the mixture in your hair' plan accordingly so you have the materials on hand. PLEASE be aware that this has a chemical called ethanalomine in it. A corrosive and dangerous substitute to ammonia. No harsh chemicals? Bah! I have lost 75% of my hair since I started using this product during the pandemic last year. I have been through rounds of steroids injections to try to bring it back. It has ruined my life. Came out way, way darker than expected. I would describe the color as “soft black” and definitely not “medium brown”. I had to pay a stylist to fix it. I also have been experiencing a significant amount of hair shedding since using this. My stylist confirmed that my hair definitely looks thinner. A bit of Google searching confirmed that this is a common problem and there is even a class action lawsuit in NY over it. Just pay a stylist or use another brand. I am 48-years old and this was the first time I have ever dyed my hair. I was starting to really get grays and wanted to cover them but keep my hair color as close as possible to my natural color. I bought the Sardinia Red and it covered my grays beautifully. It's a little darker than expected indoors but its a very radiant red when you are outside in the sun.
