My children have biracial hair and it's hard to find the right product for styling their hair. ECO professional styling Gel with coconut oil is the right product. It is actually for all hair types . It not only repairs and conditions the hair but it also moisturizes defines and leaves their hair smooth and shiny. As a mother I won't just put anything in their hair without researching it. It is not expensive at all and it's easy to apply. My teenage daughter uses it to do her edges and it makes her hair look amazing. I also use it in my hair. I have heat damaged hair as you can see from the color on down. I’m still learning how to care for my natural curls and this product worked great. On wet hair the ginger smell is strong and the hair (damaged parts) were crunchy. My roots were nice and soft. My favorite this about this gel is how soft it makes my hair. It's very hydrating and conditioning to the hair, every time I use this my curls are very soft and bouncy. I have mixed it with several other leave in conditioners and creams, both from the same brand and from other brands, and I have found it mixes well with a few different products. It doesn't mix with everything, test it in your hands first, but I found a few good combos with this gel. It also gives my hair good shine, I really loved that. My wash n go's always lasted a few days with this gel. I wish it had a little more hold, I'd say this is like medium hold. It didn't give a strong cast, which may or may not be a good thing depending on your preference. Even without strong hold, it's still a great and dependable gel. I am pretty brand loyal when it comes to my haircare, but every now and again if a product is amazing enough from another line , I will cheat on my usual and dip into the other line for that product. This is one of them The Moroccan Oil Treatment oil, which I feel is their most popular product that lead the way for this brand I think lol yes it is expensive, yes I get it cheaper because I am a liscenced professional lol but, when it comes to these higher end hair products , usually,you get what you pay for. It is worth the expensive price tag. I use the regular Moroccan oil treatment but there is also a light for those with finer hair , more oily , sleek type ,thinner hair that this regular one might be a little heavy for. I also apply this to dry hairz over my midshaft and ends when I feel they could use a little TLC . If theyre looking a little dry maybe just a little bit of this run through it and it will make your hair feel all soft and loveable again. I like the smell, it isnt anything strong or overpowering. This is the only hair product I do use from Moroccan oil, I am sure they do have other good products but at that price point and already being happy with my current hair care routine, Ive never felt the need to try them and I feel that this product here is their Holy Grail so to speak, like the 1 amazing stand out product where they are at the top of their game. I really love using this stuff. I have for years. My original favorite was Chi Silk Infusions and I still like that stuff but I feel this does the job better. So basically youd use something like this for heat and uv protection as well as moisture and shine. Mostly I use it for getting some moisture back in my really parched, heat abused hair for a nice, healthy and naturally shiny look. Using products like that can go wrong really fast. You can cross the line into greasy mess from shiny tresses quick. You can do that with this too if you use too much but a lot of products do that no matter how little you use. This lasts forever because even with the thickest and driest hair needs only a dime size or less warmed between the palms and lightly rubbed through every layer from root to ends with finger tips open to get every strand focusing on the ends. Ive noticed that it gives me life back to my hair. It gives me that naturally healthy movement you just dont get with fried hair. With this and changing my hair habits I have come almost all the way back from totally broken hair to healthy hair thats a little dry and has split ends. And with my current issues it makes it look like I have none. Especially when I flat iron my hair with this as a heat protectant it almost seals the cuticle completely and keeps my hair looking super healthy until my next wash. I also use it randomly to add a touch of moisture back into my hair if its really dry. Or if my ends are getting bad between trims I use this and flat iron them to seal them and make them look healthy temporarily. It also smells amazing. I love the comforting and unique almost but not quite tropical scent. Its very unique and very feminine without being like a perfume. It makes my hair smell fresh and pretty and that scent lasts for a couple days. Overall it is a little expensive but it lasts a long time so it ends up costing almost the same as the drugstore over time because if does last so long. Its just more of an initial investment. A sephora employee told me this stuff actually is bad for your hair and dries it out but I dont think it would have gotten so famous if it wasnt so great for so many people. Maybe she just had a bad experience. It wouldnt have been the first time I had been given bad information by a Sephora employee but I just thought Id mention it. I totally recommend. Lets just say, I love Morrocanoil and have for years the product has always been consistently the same until I tried the bottle from this seller.This does not smell or feel like MoroccanoilI love my normal Morrocanoil because its Lux, silky smooth and has a specific color and wonderful smell. This product was not any of those things it was tacky it stuck to my hands and didnt glide through my hair and made my hair feel rough. It had a nice smell but not the Moroccanoil scent.I still have some Moroccanoil from my last bottle and even the color is different.This new product is not good. Not sure if I just got an off bottle or what has happened.I read over the label and it said nothing about a new formula. All I can say is this is not the signature Morrocanoil and its not a good product. It feels like castoroil.I liked the price and thats why I ordered from this seller but next time I will just pay full price at the salon because I know what Im getting.It even wasnt in its signature box or had the same colored label so that makes me more curious.I couldnt find a way to contact the seller I went to the reorder page and the sellers name was different then this one. I have 2C to 3A hair, and typically in the winter it's a solid 2C, I lose curl. about 6 months ago I started a quest for a HG gel, after using mousse for literally 25 years (I'm 39). I wanted more hold. I was underwhelmed at all the deva gels – especially at the price point – I tried curl Smith, i also tried lower priced ones:Cantu, herbal essences, NYM Curl talk…. to name a few. and i either hated them, or found them mediocre at best. I had recently purchased a few more on my last ulta order, and came across this – and the gelee from biolage, and tried cocktailing them together, and WOW! I get amazing hold, a more uniform curl pattern, and a bit of body and shine after scrunching out the cast. Due to my schedule, i shower at night and sleep -carefully- on wet hair. the few pieces in the back, underside, of my hair that flatten I simply spray a bit of water on in the morning to SLIGHTLY dampen/reactivate the product, and give one scrunch, and they turn back into the same curls that I have everywhere else! I was really surprised at the bad reviews-at first- then upon reading them, understood. I wouldn't recommend this gel for "brushing thru straight hair" (or any gel probably), and it's medium in consistency, so you aren't going to get rock hard spiky glue like effects either. I see a lot of comments about it being runny, which has not been my experience in the 3 bottles I've purchased so far. it's always been your typical, medium/average consistency gel. I have fine to medium, mostly 3A curls (with a random 2C section), that's somewhat low density. I also live in FL, where humidity is very high, so I need to strong hold gel that has little or no glycerin in it. The protein in this really helps hold curl and keep out humidity. After using a small amount of curl cream, I then use biolage gelee. After that's scrunched in well, I take a small amount of this firm style gel and sort of glaze it over all the curls, being sure the ends are coated. Sometimes I scrunch again, very lightly, after applying this, but sometimes I glaze it over my hair and then leave alone, depending on my curls mood that particular day. lasting hold that "locks in" all the hard work I put into getting my curls to cooperate with me – about to order bottle # 4!jenn 1376

I'm in the military so I have to use product to keep my hair slicked back. I bought this product for the first time after wanting to switch from cheaper products like Tresemme because it would often start flaking. I thought a more expensive product would be better, but I was so wrong. The product is liquid and spills all over, especially if you don't close the lid all the way. It is not of gel consistency. The flakes are so much worse than any product I've ever tried. It dries and creates the tiniest flakes that are so hard to remove. I threw the bottle away before I could finish it.Sam

This product works really well if you want a gel with a strong hold! Its affordable and best if you want to get rid of fly aways for a nice sleek look. All you have to do is apply the gel to damp hair, brush the fly aways (go over it a couple times if you have thick hair), and then wrap a satin scarf around your hair for a bit. After this is done your hair will be nicely laid. It also works well for a range of curly/kinky hair types from 3a-4c and more. The only critique that I have is that it doesn't shine as much and for certain hairstyles, I want a nice shiny sleek look. What I usually do to compromise this is I'd use this gel for my edges and then the eco styler gel in the black container for my whole head to get the shine, sometimes I combine the two.halima.k

I use the brown color because it seems to accentuate my dark brown hair, making it appear more vibrant. It even helps to camouflage my few strands of gray. This gel leaves my hair soft and shiny . I was looking for a product like this for months. This product did everything that is shown in the description. It was lightweight and gave my hair body for over two days. It wasn't crunchy at all and got rid of all most all the frizz. They do need to change the pump situation gets clogged easily.Melanie

I am really enjoying using the Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil + Flaxseed Strong Hold Styling Gel. This is a great hair gel and it does not make my hair hard or flaky. This Stronghold Styling Gel holds and controls and works well on Natural, Chemically Processed, or Heat Style Hair. This gel is made with Shea Butter, Peppermint & Apple Cider Vinegar, and all the things that are great for your hair. This hair gel smells wonderful and does not leave my hair dry. I love that this gel is formulated with No Paraben, No Phthalates, No Mineral Oil, No Animal Testing, and No Petrolatum. The texture of this product was quite thick which was fine because my hair is thick and porous. This product felt pretty moisturizing especially for a gel. It has just a tad bit of a stronger hold than the coconut and hibiscus definition gel but it also did not create a cast on my hair. It was easy to work with and not very sticky or slimy. The smell is pleasant even with the castor oil smell. My hair in the picture is less than 24 hours after styling and honestly don’t foresee it lasting beyond the next morning, but primarily because I live in south FL where the humidity is at 15427% so the humectants in this product don’t help. I would recommend this product to someone with normal to a bit thicker texture but not in a very high humid climate for it to last.cely.p

I love Shea Moisture products. They never disappoint. I have natural curly hair that tend to lack definition, so I need to add heavy products to get my desired look. This Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Styling Gel comes in 15 Oz. This will for sure last a long time. I first tried using it to lay my edges but didn’t achieve the outcome I wanted. Product was not what I expected after paying 15$. After washing it out my hair felt softer and the smell is great, not over powering. The gel seemed to not hold well and at times flaked up. I had not read carefully the fact that this product had so many drying ingredients in it, like grapefruit and ginger. I can't understand why they think is is good for the hair. I have long hair and it's thick. This product did not hold. After the water dried that was holding it in place, my hair looked like cotton candy. It was so dry and frizzy I could not control it. I recently tried this Jack Black hair gel product because I like the Jack Black shampoo and conditioner product. I have not used hair gel products before this, but as my hair is getting thinner it is becoming more difficult to control. This product keeps my hair in place without looking like I am using a product. It does a better job than hairspray in my opinion, since hair spray adhesively connects just the outside of the hair where gel provides "hold" all the way through. I bought this a month or two ago, and I love this gel! Its so lightweight, but keeps my hair in place. The best thing about this is that its not sticky or tacky at all! I bought this gel to style my curly hair with. I normally use the curly jelly by Umberto Giannini (which is my AMAZING also from Boots) but I wanted to try this out as I know a lot of American curly girls use this, and it's great that boots are stocking more US brands. Overall, I'd say this is an average gel. Not too expensive, and you get a large tub for the price and the ingredients are ok. CG friendly. It feels a bit sticky at first but that goes away quickly and it doesn't make the hair crunchy or dry. There are no flakey bits either, which is a problem I've encountered in the past. My biggest issue with this product is that it doesn't really give my curls enough definition. I ended up with soft waves rather than nicely defined curls. I applied the product to soaking wet hair, which is what I always do, and then scrunched and let my hair air dry for about 3 hours. I noticed that my hair dried very quickly and that the curls were very soft and voluminous but were lacking in their normal definition. This gel doesn't seem to provide enough of a 'cast' and therefore my curls seemed a bit lacking as a result. If you're looking for soft curls then this will probably be perfect for you but if you need a little more definition then this isn't the gel for you. It's not the worse gel I've ever used but it wasn't great either. I think I'll stick to my Umberto Giannini curl jelly instead. *Just wanted to add that on my 2nd day hair, my curls have pretty much all fallen out and now resemble very loose waves, almost straight! I thought this purchase was very good value for money. The product gave my hair lots of shine whereas previously it lacked lustre. I wanted it to define, loosen and hold my curls and it is the most effective product that I have used for this (believe me I have tried so many). It is best applied when the hair is wet e.g. after washing. I was even able to freshen up the curls between washes by just wetting the hair, plaiting and leaving it in the plaits over night. Just wetting the hair seemed to activate the gel that I had initially applied after washing. You need to gauge how much gel to use by experimenting. Too much will make the hair too crispy and stringy and I don't recommend using it on dry hair at all.Ruby red

I'm a natural with 4a/4b hair that mainly does wash n goes. I wanted a gel to layer for hold that had better ingredients than eco and wetline. I planned to use this as a topper. I've experienced that this product offers great hold, it does not control frizz very well due to the light/watery consistency. I used a botanical gel underneath and I think my hair would have had more frizz control if I used it on damp hair vs. soaking wet. I feel as if my hair dried quicker while using this product (I did sit under the hooded dryer) and the application was super easy. I felt that it had slip due to the consistency. The hold that this gives is correct. I would describe it as a firm-medium. Definitely not a strong hold. And I would agree with the reviewer that said the curls need to be sculpted beforehand. I love this product. After my leave-in I usually have a few tangles, but when I use this cream instead of my usual cream, it gave me the best slip and gets all the tangles out that my leave in did not attack, and I had no frizz. It cut my wash day in half. It used to take me an hour in a half to do my hair (tangles, ugh!), now it only takes 45 – 50 minutes. My curls were so hydrated and defined. I just love this product. Don't let the size of the bottle make you think you need a bigger bottle because a little is all you need…about the size of a quarter if you're doing sections (I do 4 sections) but use it according to your hair density. My hair is a thick density on the top (this was great for that) and my hair is 3C/4A. It works perfect my sista's. Try it. Also, I noticed it has shea butter in it…a major plus for moisture. I have type 3c/3b Hair so I am always needing a good hair gel. I do like the original gel in this curl talk line. It provides adequate hold. Once this gel was introduced, I knew I had to try it. It does have a sticky consistency. But I am sure that is what helps the gel give that extra hold. You will have a hard cast on your hair once it is dry, but u can always break the cast if u want to. This gel holds up to humidity well. My advice since it is so sticky to the touch and to avoid tangling your hair is to apply your typical styling products before hand, and add this gel at the very last. It will be easier to work through the hair and wont leave a tangles mess. This is not a good gel if you feel like refreshing or combing out your hair the next day, just cause the extra hold that it does give. I found this on sale at Ulta for 3 for $25… It's the PERFECT finishing product for my thick, straight hair. I've tried a TON of styling creams, lotions, sprays, and pomades over the years, but they all made my hair look flat, greasy, stiff, or didn't have enough hold to keep baby hairs from sticking up. I received this as a sample from Ulta with another purchase I had made. I have thin, fine hair and I use this product either with a curling iron or curlers . It says it has #3 hold and it does. I cannot tell you how very pleased I am. I have actually gone two days without styling my hair and it still looks good. This is unheard of for me. Have used this for years on my fine, white, spiky short hair. Applied to damp hair it can spike hair from 1.5 cm to 3 cm without any falling over. Spikes last all day. Gives a lovely shine with is often difficult with white hair. Love it.Janne C.

I used this in my daughters hair for a pageant. It left a great cast on her curls so I was able to SOTC and get it to be a lightweight soft “wave”. I normally use a different hair gel brand for my curls but after trying Dark & Lovely’s Let’s Jam condition & shine hair gel, I do believe I will be using this going forward. The extra hold for certain hair style types is phenomenal, this is great for hair braiding, hair twisting, and keeping any edging slick and in place. Depending on the weather outside most hair gels leave a lot of visible dry flaking or gel clumps that are sticky and hard to wash out, with this hair gel it was minimal if at all. You get a large sized container that is affordable, and you really don’t need a lot of product either. So upon opening this gel, inside it looks like a big black gel ball. When you wipe it with your fingers to get some out, you will actually see that it is a clearish color. The problem is that it is very greasy. I put on quite a bit to get it to hold because it says extra hold but it felt more like a hair grease than a gel. The smell is ok, not horrible, it smells partially good, but there is a weird after smell there that lingers that I can't put my finger on. I would not purchase this for a good holding gel because it feels like a hair grease instead of gel. I think the Krystal gel is the best Eco Styler gel because it doesn’t flake or make your hair crunchy. This gel does provide curl definition however, I’m sure there are other products that will make my curls more defined. One of my complaints is that this gel provides no slip so it’s not a smooth process when you apply it to your hair. My other complaint is that it says it has “maximum hold” for all hair types but that is not true. I have mainly type 4a hair and this gel doesn’t hold or keep my hair in place very well. I have 2C, high density, coarse, porous, long hair. Since adding heavy highlights to blend the grays, my hair has been a dry, frizzy nightmare! I have read endless product reviews, watched countless You Tube Videos regarding care and products for my hair. I have purchased so many products that it is insane, and none fully managed to clump my curls/waves and provide humidity protection.
I use a leave in conditioner applied in the shower to soaking wet hair. I then use a curl primer. I scrunch these products into hair and micro plop to remove excess water. I then apply curl keeper just like gel, using praying hands method to coat each curl. I add more to the crown and smooth over waves. I then plop for 10-30 minutes depending on if I’m air drying or diffusing.
I actually prefer to air dry and this product allows that, though it takes hours to dry. Can form a slight cast which I actually love. Once fully dry any crunch is easily scrunched out. I NEVER have shine in my hair due to the coarse texture but with this my curls are defined and shiny. Best part is that even in high humidity this holds perfectly.
I cannot speak to 2nd or 3rd day hair as I haven’t been able to test this part yet.

This is the new formula that should have the blue top. And they are charging as if it’s the old formula which is hard fine. So I just paid way more- thinking I was getting the old version and it’s really the new version that’s available for cheap everywhere! This is one of those hair gels that got you covered for long hours. In this day and age Us guys have become a little self conscious about our hair. I’ve used a few that don’t really last that long and I’ve got to admit my hair needs gel like this to be tamed; plus it smells great. It smells to me like 🍏 green apple and not like glue Lol. What seals the deal for me is the affordable price of this gel: $3.63 (tax included) depending on where you buy it. This gel is great for wash n gos, updos, and laying edges. My wash n gos come out super defined and I get big hair as my style gets old. Then I’ll use this gel to slick up my hair into a puff/bun. I’ve tried many edge controls and none of them last past 2 hours then my edges would start to curl up. But with this gel, I apply it and lay my edges, tie a satin scarf around them, set for 10 minutes, and I’m good to go for the whole day. Sometimes I can get 2 days of laid edges if I’m not working out and/or it’s not super hot out!Azlin R.

AMAZING HAIR GEL! It has amazing hold and smells delicious and a little goes a very very long way. Dries fast but you still have enough time to lay your hair in the position you want. However, i think if there was a big tub available to buy , that would be so so helpfulbenie.l

I have tried most hair products but this does do what it says its called miss selling you can not spike your hair with this item also it left my hair greasy. If your hair is flat all good otherwise if you want to style your hair how you want get gummy wax it will never let you downpart1958

I've been searching for years for a gel that keeps my middle aged head of hair looking full without that cheap shiny look. Hairspray just didn't have the holding power and would get sticky during the day no matter what premium brand I tried. My barber in Florida recommended this to me and I'm hooked for life. I sure hope they never stop making this. Remember only one thing… use sparingly a little goes a long way.SteveB

I have been using this gel for years. Inhave curly hair n works great. Jyst use a small amount if tou use to much will not work great n will feel greasy. I have short hair. You may havebto try a few times to find the right amount that works for your hairCrow

I really like this product that I discovered randomly. The hold is good, and doesnt stay sticky. Like the smell too. But the packaging is terrible the rotating cap with dispenser allows small amounts to remain on it after closing and leaving sticky stains everywhere.Anonymous
