I'd been using Herbal Essences' 'set me up' styling gel for years and only purchased Garnier's styling gel because Herbal Essences is no longer making the particular gel I had been using, or for some reason, it simply is no longer available at a reasonable price. I have to say that Garnier's gel is far superior to Herbal Essences' gel. I have extremely short gray hair, and my morning routine consists of a one to two-minute blow dry, a quick brush through my hair, and an application of a small dollop of hair gel. After that, I never touch my hair for the rest of the day. Garnier's product is very light, nicely scented, and it stiffens my hair in place with a very natural look. There is absolutely no white flaking, and the amount required to hold my hair in place is about half what I used to use with the Herbal Essences gel. A dime-sized amount is completely adequate to ensure my hair doesn't move. I am far more satisfied with this gel than with the various ridiculously expensive gels my hair stylist uses on my hair when I go in for a haircut every six weeks. This acts like glue. I have long hair (just above waist) and I tried this because my husband uses it (short hair). I added a quarter size amount to damp hair, scrunched it a bit and let air dry. Nice wavy curls but midday I put my hair up into a messy bun (hair was barely damp). At the end of the day when I let my hair down it was all glued together. My 6 year old son is on the autism spectrum. He has NEVER, EVER allowed me to style his hair. He hates everything about it. On a whim, I thought I would try an unscented gel, and bought Fragfre. Magically, he allowed me to style his hair with this gel! I think the light scents put out by regular hair gels have been a sensory overload for him, but he could never find the words to explain that to me, I just had to guess. His hair looked cute! I would describe his hair as thick and straight. This gel held his hair in place with no problem. I definitely recommend this product for anyone, but especially those with sensivity to scents and perfumes.
If you look closely at FRAGREE's packaging, you'll immediately notice that the list of ingredients in this product is SIGNIFICANTLY SHORTER than the list(s) shown on comparable product labels. If you have a wheat allergy like I do, then I would highly recommend this product because it did not cause the skin on my head to react in any way. In the past, I have had an inflammatory response (e.g. flaking skin, itching, etc.). due to the harsh chemicals found in other comparable products on the market. This product DOES NOT CONTAIN WHEAT, so it has proven to have been safe for me thusfar. If you follow a gluten-free/wheat-free diet, then why not also use skincare and haircare products that also are gluten-free/wheat-free, right? I've used L'Oreal's "Lock-It" gel for years, and they've now discontinued it with no warning (or I would have stocked up for life!). This new product is not at all a substitute or replacement for "Lock-It" and did absolutely nothing to hold my short, spiky haircut in place, or even last long enough to style it and use another product to set it.

If you're looking for a hair gel that has a super-duper, concrete-like firm hold…this is it. It's also got a pleasant, non-offensive, masculine scent. It's easy to spread throughout the hair (unlike some of the other "ultra firm" hold hair gels) and you can easily thin out the gel with some water. However, it does take about an hour for this gel to dry at ambient room temperature, once applied. American crew is a really great product and works exactly as advertised. Its smooth and rich in texture and leaves your hair a little crunchy while firmly holding hair in place.. but it's just to expensive. I can get the same quality hair care If not less from a local grocery store for 75% less. I would use this product all the time, I just wish it was more affordable. It's like most high end hair styling products. It does what it says it should. I use a pea size blob, a bit of water to emulsify and run through my hair prior to going in with a hair-dryer. Great volume for a high pony tail or any up-do. My son uses it to slick back his hair. Pure gel, no water. There's the usual tacky residue on your hands, brushes and combs. Wash brushes and combs using a little shampoo and you're ready for the next day.melissa.h

This is the new formula that should have the blue top. And they are charging as if it’s the old formula which is hard fine. So I just paid way more- thinking I was getting the old version and it’s really the new version that’s available for cheap everywhere! This is one of those hair gels that got you covered for long hours. In this day and age Us guys have become a little self conscious about our hair. I’ve used a few that don’t really last that long and I’ve got to admit my hair needs gel like this to be tamed; plus it smells great. It smells to me like 🍏 green apple and not like glue Lol. What seals the deal for me is the affordable price of this gel: $3.63 (tax included) depending on where you buy it. This gel is great for wash n gos, updos, and laying edges. My wash n gos come out super defined and I get big hair as my style gets old. Then I’ll use this gel to slick up my hair into a puff/bun. I’ve tried many edge controls and none of them last past 2 hours then my edges would start to curl up. But with this gel, I apply it and lay my edges, tie a satin scarf around them, set for 10 minutes, and I’m good to go for the whole day. Sometimes I can get 2 days of laid edges if I’m not working out and/or it’s not super hot out!Azlin R.
